Abstract:
At the present stage of the developed society, the attention of scientists and practitioners to the analysis of the digital society has increased. This is evidenced by the appearance of various publications in line with this issue; the formation and implementation of regulatory documents, for example, the Strategy for the Development of the Information Society in the Russian Federation for 2017–2030. In this regard, it becomes relevant to analyze a new model of the quality of life, a digital one, as one of the results of the development of a digital society. The methodological basis of the research is the concepts of the representatives of post industrialism D. Bell, P. Drucker, G. Galbraith, E. Toffl er about the role of theoretical knowledge and technology in ensuring the quality of life as determinants of all processes occurring in societies, as well as the ideas of the members of the Club of Rome, who created models of life quality and determined the ways to ensure it in relation to developing countries. This article analyzes individual models of digital society as social practices, which showed that the main trend of their development should be a new quality of digital life, generated by the digital environment and forming new technologies, communications, interaction mechanisms. A certain concept of “digital model of quality of life” is a refl ection of the processes of digitization of everyday life and professional activity of a new subject of public life. We revealed that new interactions arise in the digital model of quality of life: knowledge that creates new technologies is the determining and producing resource for all benefi ts; the introduction of these technologies ensures the development of the digital economy, which forms the need for new mechanisms that determine the evolution of society and man, as the subject of these trends which education should form. The digital model of the quality of life is studied from the standpoint of objectivism and subjectivism. The research materials can be used in assessing trends in the development of modern digital society, identifying the prospects for the development of society in the conditions of digitalization, in making forecasts of the future development of mankind.

Background and Objectives: As advances in medicine are proceeding, so are treatment goals shifting from sheer mortality rates to improving HRQoL and social reintegration after burn injury. Following this trend, we aimed to assess HRQoL, employment and life satisfaction after burn injury to gain insight on confounding factors. Materials and Methods: This single-center follow-up study was conducted using the SF-36 V1.0 in German and further questions evaluating employment and life satisfaction. It reached 128 adult in-patients (recall 33.0%) with former burn injuries, treated between 2012 and 2019 at the Division of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University Hospital of Graz. The questionnaire outcomes were set into relation with clinical data obtained from the medical records. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 27.0 for Windows. Results: Of the 128 participants, 72.7% were male and 27.3% female. The mean age at the time of injury was 40.0 ± 15.7 years and mean %TBSA among the study population was 9.2 ± 11.0%. The male patients had sustained more extensive injuries (p = 0.005). However, the female patients scored significantly (p < 0.05) and consistently lower in all the domains of the SF-36, except for “bodily pain” (p = 0.061). Moreover, the female patients scored lower in all the domains of life satisfaction, although significant differences were only found in the domains of fulfillment (p = 0.050) and mental wellbeing (p = 0.015). Furthermore, employment status differed significantly between the male and female patients before as well as after the burn injury. Proportionally less women were employed at both time points. Overall, unemployment had declined. Conclusions: Life satisfaction after burn injury in this study cohort seems to be good. Return to work has shown a promising trend. Strikingly, HRQoL and life satisfaction were lower in women after burn injury. Further research on the reasons for this gender discrepancy might improve HRQoL and life satisfaction after burns.

Abstract:
Purpose – Improving the commercial success rate of innovations requires alternative approaches based on social science methodologies for identifying subtle, emerging changes in consumer needs and behaviors. The purpose of this paper is to address this call by proposing trend spotting to guide innovation researchers and service managers towards innovations that are more in accordance with emerging consumer needs. Design/methodology/approach – The authors develop, describe, and employ a methodology for trend spotting to derive eight consumer trends that will have a strong influence on their choices. To provide further insights into these trends, the authors label and describe three customer segments as a function of life-cycle. The goal is to provide a framework for identifying innovations that are of higher value consumers. Findings – The authors identified eight consumer trends, i.e. Always on the go, Always logged-in, Quality information faster, Nowism, Look at me now, Privacy, Sustainable living, and return on time (RoT), present across the three life-stage segments, i.e. Young free and single, Chaos in my life, and Got my life back. Practical implications – For illustration purpose, the authors elaborate on the trend RoT and employ their findings and framework to illustrate how the airline industry may derive ideas for valuable innovations. Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time trend spotting has been employed in the field of service marketing and service innovations.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the quality of life in Czech rural areas and its measurement. The first part is focused on the introduction of the term “quality of life“, with particular emphasis on its analytic uses and the related issues. Building on the up to date research, we go on to conceptualize the term into seven groups of indicators. In the next part, we deal with living conditions in Czech rural areas and build our hypotheses, based upon them. We employ the methods of statistical analysis of the European Social Survey data to perform a rural vs. non-rural comparison for each of the seven dimensions identified. In the final part, we discuss the findings and match the conclusions with the current trends in Czech rural areas.

Abstract:
Object. The aim of this study was to determine if factors such as postoperative hearing, facial function, headaches, or other factors have an impact on self-assessed quality of life (QOL) after acoustic neuroma surgery. Methods. The SF-36 and seven additional questions on the impact of surgery on the QOL were sent to 135 consecutive patients who had undergone acoustic neuroma surgery. The Spearman rho correlations were calculated for each of the eight categories of the SF-36 (general health, physical functioning, physical role limitations, emotional role limitations, mental health, energy/vitality, pain, social functioning). The results were correlated with patients' sex, age, persistent headache, years since surgery, postoperative hearing level, and facial function. The response rate was 74.8%. The transformed scores of the eight categories of the SF-36 were lower than age-matched healthy controls in approximately half of the categories. The strongest trend toward lower scores with statistical significance in two categories was persistent headaches. Some categories demonstrated trends toward lower scores with females or age older than 55 years. Postoperative hearing and facial functioning, and time since surgery showed no statistically significant impact on QOL measured by the SF-36. Responses to the additional questions indicate that hearing, facial function, and headache influenced people's feelings about surgery and had an impact on their return to work. Conclusions. The QOL scores are not consistently lower than population normative values compared with different normative studies. The strongest correlation was between the presence of persistent headache and QOL. Other correlations were not consistent in all categories, and few were statistically significant. These trends in some categories do not explain the difference seen between patients after acoustic neuroma surgery in this study and normal populations in other studies.

Abstract:
Objective To identify differences in quality of life between patients with advanced oropharyngeal cancer following traditional opposed port chemoradiation (CRT) vs. chemotherapy with intensity modulated radiation therapy (CIMRT). Methods A cohort study from academic tertiary referral center was performed. 50 patients were identified from an institutional database of patients who had undergone primary chemotherapy and radiation (traditional or IMRT) for advanced oropharyngeal carcinoma. Patients responded via mail using the University of Washington quality of life instrument version 4 (UW-QOLv4). Data was analyzed using chi-square and Wilcoxon tests. Results 17 CRT patients responded (57%), and 14 CI-MRT patients responded (70%). Patients completed the survey between 9 and 44 months following end of treatment. When adjusted for tumor stage and time since treatment, CIMRT patients reported improved appearance (p = 0.05), chewing (p = 0.02), and mood (p = 0.01). There was a trend toward significance for improved activity (p = 0.07), recreation (p = 0.07), and anxiety (p = 0.08). There were no differences between the 2 groups for saliva, taste, shoulder function, speech, and swallowing. There was a trend for significance for improved overall quality of life in patients who had undergone CIMRT (p = 0.06). Conclusions Many patients with advanced oropharyngeal carcinoma are being treated with primary chemoradiation. CIMRT results in improved quality of life for some domains but surprisingly not for swallowing or saliva. Patients undergoing CIMRT also report slightly better quality of life overall when compared to patients receiving more traditional forms of radiation therapy.

Abstract:
Purpose To examine the association of quality of life (QOL) after diagnosis of breast cancer with mortality and recurrence. Patients and Methods From 2002 to 2004, a total of 2,230 breast cancer survivors completed the General Quality of Life Inventory-74 6 months after diagnosis as part of the Shanghai Breast Cancer Survivor Study. Also collected at baseline was information on demographic and clinical characteristics. At 36 months postdiagnosis, 1,845 of these women were re-evaluated for QOL. Outcomes were ascertained by in-person interview and record linkage to the vital statistics registry. The association of QOL with total mortality and cancer recurrence was assessed by using Cox regression analysis. Results During a median follow-up of 4.8 years after the 6-month postdiagnosis QOL assessment, 284 deaths were identified. Recurrence was documented in 267 patients after 108 patients with stage IV breast cancer or recurrence before study enrollment were excluded. Women with the highest tertile of social well-being QOL score, compared with those with the lowest score, had a 38% decreased risk of mortality (95% CI, 0.46 to 0.85; P for trend = .002) and a 48% decreased risk of breast cancer recurrence (95% CI, 0.38 to 0.71; P for trend < .001). QOL assessed at 36 months postdiagnosis was not significantly associated with subsequent risk of mortality or recurrence. Conclusion Social well-being in the first year after cancer diagnosis is a significant prognostic factor for breast cancer recurrence or mortality, suggesting a possible avenue of intervention by maintaining or enhancing social support for women soon after their breast cancer diagnosis to improve disease outcomes.

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Objective. </strong>Quality of life is a category that develops in breadth, but not in depth. The objective of the paper is a brief systematic presentation of the approaches of three influential representatives of a field of interdisciplinary research of the quality of life, who contributed a lot to the shaping of this field and its development till our days, namely Alex Michalos, Joseph Sirgy and Ruut Veenhoven. <strong>Background. </strong>These three concepts of quality of life may be viewed as representing the main trend in quality of life research has evolved through the last three decades. The essential characteristics of this trend are, first of all, growing interdisciplinarity of both theoretical models and empirical research of the quality of life, increasing contribution of psychology to the understanding and investigating this area and progressing shift of the focus of research from objective living conditions to the subjective indicators of quality of life. <strong>Methodology. </strong>A transdisciplinary comparative analysis. <strong>Conclusions. </strong>These closely interconnected characteristics bridge quality of life studies focused on the specifics of different types of societies and cultures with the research of happiness and subjective well-being at an individual psychological level. The positive psychology currently defines today the main stream of understanding the quality of life in interdisciplinary research. Multiple barriers to high quality maternity care have been identified in Indonesia. One barrier is the shortage of well-trained maternity care providers, particularly in remote and rural areas. Maternity care training programs do not consistently prepare their graduates to provide high quality care. Poor pre-service training may then be compounded by a lack of post-service supervision and inadequate multispecialty teamwork. Maternity care continuing education is an important means to reinforce and improve the skills needed to provide high quality maternity care. Programs that have been developed for low- to middle-income countries focus on providing culturally appropriate information to improve competency, communication and teamwork. Improvement in quality of care has been documented, showing a decrease in maternal morbidity and mortality. This trend is reflected in improvements in patient satisfaction and trust, and ultimately supports the tenets of patient-centered care.

Aim. The research is targeted for estimating quality of life in adolescents with different types of tuberculosis. Methods. Quality of life in 30 adolescents aged 13-17 years was evaluated using Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory - PedsQL questionnaire. Parents were evaluated separately. An initial level of a quality of life before the treatment initiation and quality of life right after in-patient treatment completion (56 days) were compared. Results. Adolescents had pessimistic and emotionally limited subjective estimations of their clinical condition and its influences on all types of activities. The change in Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory scores (49.4±2.1 before treatment, compared to 51.9±2.0 after treatment) confirmed that recreation and treatment of tuberculosis significantly raised the subjective scores for all aspects of patient’s quality of life. Quality of life indicators by different functional scales were higher if assessed by parents compared to patients themselves (p 0.001). Parents were sure in positive influence of the prolonged course of the specific treatment on «school life» scale parameters. Comparative assessment of quality of life trend showed that improvement after treatment was observed according to assessment both by parents and patients themselves. All quality of life indicators were higher in female patients (score of all types of activities - 55.7±2.7 points) compared to males (48.3±2.8 points). Conclusion. Revealed trends confirm the need for performing recreational, medical, social, rehabilitative actions and psychosocial correction considering the age features of adolescents, their subjective estimations and functioning in a hospital.

Abstract:
An incredibly disturbing trend has surfaced recently in local American politics: cities are forbidding citizens from feeding homeless people. My focus is on how this has been created in tandem with shifts in public discourse. Although I recognise the similarities between the new ordinances and previous anti-homeless laws, I want to point to something new that is happening in the legal treatment of street people. City governments, somewhat dependent on the non-profit sector to give material aid while government services are cut, are now vigorously targeting charities/citizens. I will argue that this trend relates to a shift in the framing of the homeless issue – more specifically, a shift in the very definition of the homeless.

The article is devoted to the issues related to the phenomenon of “aging society”. The relevance of creating a barrier-free environment for the elderly is dictated by the current demographic trend towards an increase in life expectancy, an increase in its quality. The number of centenarians with functional impairments (senile dementia, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s) who require care at a qualitatively new level is increasing. Innovative form of organizing the leisure of the elderly «Kindergarten for the elderly people» is considered as one of the ways to solve the problem. Based on the data of a study conducted by the Federal state budgetary educational institution of higher education of the Far-Eastern state medical university of the Ministry of Health of Russia in 2020, identified the need to create a social institution «Kindergarten for the elderly people». The article notes the need for older people to adapt to the changing conditions of their life in the society saturated with gadgets and information.

The change in the pace of urbanization that Egypt is currently witnessing due to the massive population growth and the trend towards migration to some urban polarization centers has responded in a large and unbalanced urban transformation. The absence of a clear long-term strategy for urban development has affected the accumulation of investments in major cities. Alongside the challenge facing the development of new urban communities, is the result of interaction between the social situation, economic and urban and the environment that affects the human being to form a society characterized by the quality of life, which is the goal of development. If all these challenges did not achieve the results of quality of life, development has become deficient and unable to achieve its objectives and therefore the investments directed to this development is a waste of resources in a country that needs to deal with Resources efficiently and effectively, so as to achieve the maximum possible return of national income. Therefore The need to design an appropriate strategy aimed at Integration of parts of the State's urban space, as well as alleviating the regional disparities in the levels of urban development between different regions of the country, and achieving the greatest justice in the distribution of services and facilities and economic opportunities between citizens and regions, and Attracting residents from densely populated areas and territories to new urban centers with growing development and investment potential.

Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate the health-related quality of life effects of muscle stretching, manual therapy and steroid injections in addition to ‘stay active’ care in acute or subacute low back pain patients. Study design: A randomized, controlled trial during 10 weeks with four treatment groups. Setting: Nine primary health care and one outpatient orthopaedic hospital department. Subjects: One hundred and sixty patients with acute or subacute low back pain. Interventions: Ten weeks of ‘stay active’ care only (group 1), or ‘stay active’ and muscle stretching (group 2), or ‘stay active’, muscle stretching and manual therapy (group 3), or ‘stay active’, muscle stretching, manual therapy and steroid injections (group 4). Main measures: The Gothenburg Quality of Life instrument subscales Well-being score and Complaint score. Results: In a multivariate analysis adjusted for possible outcome affecting variables other than the treatment given Well-being score was 68.4 (12.5), 72.1 (12.4), 72,3 (12.4) and 72.7 (12.5) in groups 1–4, respectively ( P for trend <0.05). There were significant trends for the well-being components patience ( P < 0.005), energy ( P < 0.05), mood ( P < 0.05) and family situation ( P < 0.05). The remaining two components and Complaint score showed a non-significant trend towards improvement. Conclusion: The effects on health-related quality of life were greater the larger the number of treatment modalities available. The ‘stay active’ treatment group, with the most restricted number of modalities, had the most modest health-related quality of life improvement, while group 4 with the most generous choice of treatment modalities, had the greatest improvement.

The purpose of this paper is to characterize the relationship between quality differentiation, income distribution and product line design. According to the findings, the author can explain the trend of quality differentiation and the phenomenon of extreme product diversity in different conditions of income distribution. When the middle class of consumers reach a certain critical few number, the quality for them will descend. Only the high-end and low-end quality left for this extreme condition; that is, the product quality spectrum will shrink. The product quality for middle and low class will gradually get worse and worse, even lower than original quality. The product line design will be reconsidered to the opposite extremes.

Abstract:
Cervical cancer is one type of cancer with a high prevalence in women. Quality of life of someone with cervical cancer will decrease. Quality of life can also decrease because of chemotherapy regimens. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of cisplatin-vincristine-bleomycin and carboplatin-paclitaxel regimens on the quality of life of patients. Through this research how the difference in quality of life of patients with cervical cancer before and after chemotherapy could be known. Additionally, the differences impact on the quality of life of the two regimens also were observed. The study was conducted by using cross sectional design in hospitalization patients. Data were taken prospectively by conducting field observations. Measuring the quality of life was done using the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire. Differences of domain values before and after chemotherapy in each regimen were analyzed by paired t-test (p <0.05). Quality of life difference between two regimens were analyzed by unpaired t test (p<0.05). The results showed that there was an increasing trend of the value of the functional domain, impairment of symptoms domain and an increase in the value of global health status domain after three cycles of chemotherapy of two regimens, except the symptoms of nausea and vomiting and loss of appetite that showed an increasing trend. Patients who received cisplatin-vincristine-bleomycin regimen showed a significant increasing (p = 0.009) in decreased of appetite symptom’s scores. No significant differences in the quality of life of patients who delivered chemotherapy regimen of cisplatin-vincristine-bleomycin compared to carboplatin-paclitaxel regimen.

Abstract:
Abstract America is aging rapidly, and older adults (age ≥65 y) are retaining more of their natural teeth, a trend expected to continue. Although much is known about the impact of complete tooth loss on overall health and well-being, less is known about the effect of partial tooth loss. We conducted a systematic review to advance our understanding of the impact of retaining ≥20 teeth on health and quality of life (QoL) in older adults using two tooth retention concepts – shortened dental arch (SDA) and functional dentition (FD). We searched seven scientific databases from 1981–2019 for publications on tooth retention and outcomes and impact on health and QoL. Ninety-six studies were included in this review. Most were assessed with low risk of bias (n=74) and of good quality (n=73) using the revised Cochrane Risk of Bias tool and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Tooth retention was defined as FD in 82 studies, SDA in 10 studies, and four studies used both. Most were cross-sectional and only seven were from the US. We found an increasing trend among published studies in using FD and SDA to describe natural dentition retention (50 articles in 2015-19 vs one in 1995-99). In general, having &lt;20 teeth was associated with increased likelihood for functional dependence, onset of disability, declines in higher-level functioning, and lower QoL. New information is needed to facilitate clinical decision-making, care-giving, and to help health providers better meet the future oral health needs of an aging US population.

Abstract:
e21520 Background: Recent studies have demonstrated a clear survival benefit of melphalan percutaneous hepatic perfusion (M-PHP) for liver metastases from ocular melanoma (mUM). Importantly, the survival benefit relating to each treatment cycle must be carefully balanced with changes in patient Quality of Life. We contribute our single centre findings on the temporal change in the quality of life after M-PHP therapy. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of the change in quality of life (QoL) using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - General (FACT-G) with mUM patients receiving M‐PHP at our institutions (n = 13). The FACT-G score which comprises physical (PWB), social (SWB), emotional (EWB) and functional (FWB) wellbeing were measured pre-procedure and at day 1, day of discharge, 7, 14 and 28 days after M-PHP therapy. Paired t-test was used to assess for any significant change in each QoL domain. Results: The baseline FACT-G score was 93.4 out of 108 +/- 14.7 (mean +/- std). Quality of life scoring significantly decreased immediately after the procedure (day 1; 84.8 +/- 13.1, p = 0.01) and gradually improved over time, with no significant difference in total score by the day of discharge; 88.7 +/- 13.7, c.f baseline p = 0.22). By day 28, there was a trend for overall improved QoL (96.6 +/-9.3, p = 0.25). Sub-score analysis revealed that by day 28 there was a statistically significant improvement in EWB (p = 0.02), a trend towards improved scores in PWB and SWB domains. FWB was slightly below baseline by day 28 (23.8 vs 23.2). Conclusions: Quality of life following M-PHP decreases immediately after therapy and is not significantly different from baseline by the day of discharge. By day 28 there is a trend towards improved overall quality of life. This study could provide the basis for determining the optimal time between treatment cycles.

Objective: To investigate changes in the quality of life of patients with leg ulcers being treated in community leg ulcer clinics. Design: Patients were interviewed using a standard questionnaire, and then reinterviewed after 12 weeks of compression bandaging to observe changes. Setting: Community ulcer clinics held in health centres within Riverside Health District. Patients: All new patients presenting to community leg ulcer clinics up to 6 months from the start of a clinic and treated with four-layer compression bandaging. Main outcome measures: Changes in quality of life, interference in daily activities caused by leg ulceration and general health after 12 weeks of treatment. Results: Treatment over 12 weeks resulted in a mean reduction in anxiety (2.79 v 1.73, p < 0.001), depression (2.61 v 1.89, p < 0.001), hostility (1.59 v 1.00, p < 0.001) and cognition (1.29 v 0.87, p = 0.015). Pain significantly improved following treatment (χ2 trend = 103.7, 1d.f., p < 0.001). Changes in depression and hostility were related to complete ulcer healing. Conclusions: There were clear changes in quality of life following 12 weeks in a community leg ulcer clinic, which were related to the healing of the ulcer. Systems of care that offer rapid healing and improve patients' well-being must be considered when planning an effective leg ulcer service.

Abstract:
Abstract Concerns have surfaced regarding the quality of assisted living (AL) with calls for quality metrics reporting as essential for consumer choice and organizational accountability. This study presents a framework for quality metrics in ALs using a) results from literature review and environmental scan of existing domains and indicators used to assess quality in AL and 2) a survey of results from MN stakeholders (n=822) on their priorities regarding these quality measures. Our findings showed that consumer-reported measures (resident quality of life and family satisfaction) were rated as top priority, followed by staff-based measures (e.g., job satisfaction, turnover). Other domains included residents’ safety, resident health outcomes, care services and integration, and the environment of the ALs. These results have implications for states looking to develop and implement quality measures in ALs, especially in the context of rising AL resident acuity and the continued trend away from institutional models of long-term care.

Abstract:
Purpose Infant vocal durations have been studied from a variety of perspectives, including medical, social, and linguistic. The resultant developmental profile across the first 6 months of life, however, is still far from clear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the durational properties of infant vocalizations from the unique perspective of voice quality. By considering an infant's modal and nonmodal voice qualities, the developmental range of vocalizations produced by infants during the early months of life was captured. Method Four Australian English–speaking infants were recorded for approximately 1 hr per week during the first 6 months of life. A total of 6,309 vocalizations were perceptually identified and labeled according to voice quality. The duration of each vocalization was subsequently measured. Results A nonlinear curve was evident for the duration of all vocalizations combined. Duration increased significantly between Months 3 and 5. Modal voice was the only voice quality that displayed a linear increase in duration across the study. All other voice qualities displayed polynomial trends. Conclusions Based on the current results, the inconsistent pattern of vocal duration development found previously can be reconciled when voice quality properties of vocalizations are taken into account. A nonlinear curve is evident when a broad corpus of infant vocalizations is used, whereas a narrow corpus containing predominantly modal vocalizations displays a linear trend. The results demonstrate the necessity of including nonmodal voice qualities in infant duration experiments so as to not overstate the linear nature of duration increases.

New generation, which has been brought up in a world where geographical boundaries are no constraintis ready to try new recipes from across the world. The trend is catching up with the older generation also. But all such foods are not safe and can cause PUD. Various studies have shown detrimental effects of such so called junk foods on health of young adult males. Nowadays junk food has become the main attraction for the young generation as it also comes to western culture. The boys specially, who spend most of their time outside of their home, mainly eats unhygienic junk foods. For that reason, the attraction towards junk food increases and causes abnormalities to their digestion system, which ends in severe stages like ulcer. Most of the young people like to consume spicy and fatty foods, as spicy foods always look more colorful and more tasty than healthy foods which also causes extra attention to these foods. But they ignore the facts that spicy foods cause gas and acid formation and is very dangerous for health. Most of the young people are either engaged with study or engaged with jobs, and in both cases, they need to stay out of the house for maximum time which brings irregularity to their meal timing. The young adulthood is also sensitive because, at this age most people suffer from emotional stress which brings irregularity in sleeping, eating etc. These things affect their mental and physical health very badly as they can start smoking, drinking alcohol and can this lead to severe disorders like Gastrointestinal disorders, or ulcers. etc. Sometimes people take drugs as pain killers which can cause other severe disorders(ulcer). Therefore, this study is a reflection of the life style related issues which becomes the major factors of causing ulcer like severities.

This approach forms the basis for implementation of text-mining software tools. Algorithms behind these tools allow users to escape from getting too general or garbage results which make it impossible to identify promising technologies at early stages (early detection, weak signals). Besides, these algorithms provide high-quality results in extraction of complex multiword terms which correspond to technological concepts forming a trend. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the effect on quality of life of elderly people enrolled in GAMIA – Multidisciplinary Care Group to Outpatient Elderly Subjects (Grupo de Assistência Multidisciplinar ao Idoso Ambulatorial) of the Geriatric Department, Hospital das Clinicas, Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade de Sao Paulo. Methods: Between 2000 and 2002, 83 elderly participants of GAMIA were assessed by the World Health Organization Quality of Life scale (WHOQOL-bref) at the beginning and the end of the program. Functionality was assessed by Katz and Lawton scales and sociodemographic data were obtained from medical charts. Results: Females predominated (79.5%) and overall mean age was 69.30 years. Data analysis showed a reduction in the physical domain of WHOQOL-bref (p = 0.014) and increased psychological health and environment domains (p = 0.029 and p = 0.007, respectively), detecting a trend of increase in social relationships and in general domains (p = 0.062 and p = 0.052, respectively). Conclusions: The clinical evaluation of the elderly detected previously unknown diseases and determination of the use of new drugs, which might have been the predominant factor for the deterioration of their perception in the physical domain. Improvement in psychological health and the environment can be related to psychological and social support that the elderly received from peers and professionals and the benefits of group activities, as well as the upward trend observed in social relationships and general domains. Participation in a program to promote healthy aging was effective in improving the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract:
Background Individuals with traumatic spinal cord injuries (SCIs) have lower subjective well-being and diminished longevity, yet there is a lack of research on how life satisfaction and changes in life satisfaction relate to longevity. Objectives To identify the relationships between survival status and life satisfaction and its changing trend over a 10-year period. Methods Data were taken from the SCI Longitudinal Aging Study. A cohort study of 676 adult participants with SCI completed three assessments separated by 5-year intervals. We applied the survival analyses by using person-year logistic regression models. Results There were 135 participants (20%) who were deceased by the end of 2019. After controlling for demographic and injury factors, life satisfaction was significantly related to survival. In the final model, having an upward trend of life satisfaction was significantly associated with lower odds of mortality, whereas a downward trend in life satisfaction was not significant. Conclusion Our findings demonstrate the importance of current life satisfaction and having a trend toward improving satisfaction to survival. The findings indicated the importance of psychosocial adaptation to life quality and longevity after SCI.

Abstract:
Background: Barth syndrome (BTHS) is a rare X-linked genetic disease that affects multiple systems and leads to complex clinical manifestations. Although a considerable amount of research has focused on the physical aspects of the disease, less has focused on the psychosocial impact and quality of life (QoL) in BTHS. Methods: The current study investigated caregiver- (n = 10) and self-reported (n = 16) psychological well-being and QoL in a cohort of BTHS-affected patients and families. Participants completed the depression and anxiety components of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Information System (PROMIS) Short Form 8A and Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) surveys at enrollment and again during a follow-up period ranging from 6 to 36 months after baseline. Results: Quality of life changed significantly over time and the various domains with some improvement and some decline. Among the available caregiver-patient dyad data, there was a trend toward discordance between caregiver and self-reported outcomes. Most notably, patients reported improvement in HRQoL, while caregivers reported declines. This suggests that there may be differences in perceived quality of life between the patients and parents, though our study is limited by small sample size. Conclusion: Our study provides valuable insights into the impacts of psychosocial and mental health aspects of BTHS. Implications of these findings include incorporating longitudinal assessment of QoL and screening for psychological symptoms in BTHS care to identify interventions that may drastically impact health status and the course of the disease.

The outcome of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is frequently development of end-stage kidney failure that requires program hemodialysis (PHD). Increase of the longevity of long-term PHD patients is associated with continuous somatic and psychic stress for the patient, which might adversely affect the quality of life (QoL) of an end-stage CKD patient.Purpose: to determine the influence of age and dialysis duration on the QoL of end-stage CKD patients receiving PHD.Materials and methods. 50 patients receiving PHD (23 men and 27 women), aged 31 to 79 years, were examined. The mean age was 56.72±11.26 years. The PHD duration ranged between 1 month to 20 years, the average figure being 5.26±4.82 years. The control group included 50 healthy subjects of comparable gender and age. The QoL evaluation data were gathered through survey using the Russian version of SF-36 Questionnaire (Short Form Medical Outcomes Study), validated by the Institute of Clinical and Pharmacological Studies (Saint Petersburg) and analysis of case records.Results. As regards the scales of physical health, a decrease of the QoL of PHD patients was found as follows: РF-physical functioning (54.1±25.6 vs. 85.0±21.4), RP-role functioning related to physical condition (38.5±35.4 vs. 74.5±29.7), Pbodily pain (64.7±32.1 vs. 70.5±24.8), GH-general health condition (51.3±15.9 vs. 65.1±21.7). A trend towards inter-group difference was also discovered as regards the scales of vitality (VT) (53.7±19.5 vs. 61.0±19.4), social functioning (SF) (72.5±18.0 vs. 79.5±23.5). Multiple regression analysis established inverse relationship between the patient’s physical health component (PH) and age (rs=-0.317, P<0.05).Conclusion. In PHD patients, the physical health component is the one that suffers most of all, namely: physical functioning, role functioning related to physical condition, pain intensity, and general health condition. The tendency to statistic differences is observed for the scales of vitality and social functioning of the mental health component. Increase of the age and dialysis duration affect adversely the physical health whereas render no influence on the mental health.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Advances in medicine have caused a notable increase in the survival rates of children born with congenital heart disease, even in the most complicated cases, almost mitigating the disease’s pathology from lethal to chronic. The quality of life perceived by such children is influenced by the perceptions of their parents. However, the international literature has rarely considered the entire family nucleus. AIMS: This study aims to study the temporal trend of quality of life of families with children with congenital heart disease, particularly with respect to parents following a child’s hospitalization for an invasive procedure. DESIGN: A longitudinal study. METHOD: A sample of families (that is, those including a child with congenital heart disease and their parents) will be enrolled following the patient’s discharge from the hospital and examined every 3 months for 1 year. The study’s adopted hypothesis is that there is an interdependence between the subjects of the study that is capable of influencing individual perceptions of quality of life. RESULTS: This study will attempt to identify variables (and their temporal trend) that can be attributed to the family unit and—together with physical and clinical variables—that may influence the quality of life of children with congenital heart disease. CONCLUSION: Examining family quality of life with the longitudinal method will allow us to identify the predictors and interdependence of this factor with respect to children and their parents. Abstract:
AbstractMany breeds of companion animal have inherited disorders that may impair quality of life (QoL) to the extent that it is unkind to keep them alive. If we struggle to discern when this point is reached, why do we breed compromised, short-lived animals in the first place? If we struggle to judge when environmental conditions cause an unacceptable QoL, why not breed appropriately for modern environments? In breeding pedigree dogs, five major problems arise: (1) some breed standards and selection practices run counter to dog welfare; (2) insufficient selection pressure seems to be exerted on some traits that would improve animal well-being and produce dogs better suited to modern environments; (3) the incidence of certain inherited defects in some breeds is unacceptably high; (4) the dearth of registered animals of certain breeds in particular countries makes it extremely difficult for breeders to avoid mating close relatives; and (5) there may be financial disincentives for veterinarians to reduce the incidence of inherited diseases. Before we can judge when behavioural or morphological changes caused by selective breeding result in an unacceptable QoL, we have to know which are prevalent. This paper reviews progress in two Australian schemes to monitor trends in the prevalence of inherited disorders in dogs and to promote behavioural phenotypes likely to cope with contemporary domestic environments.

Abstract:
Abstract BACKGROUND Adductor spasmodic dysphonia (SD) is a dystonia of the vocal folds causing difficulty with speech. The current standard of care is repeated botulinum toxin injections to weaken the adductor muscles. We sought to ameliorate the underlying neurological cause of SD with a novel therapy—deep brain stimulation (DBS). OBJECTIVE To assess the safety of DBS in SD through phase I trial, and to quantify the magnitude of any benefit. METHODS Six patients had left ventral intermediate nucleus (Vim) thalamic DBS and were randomized to 3 mo blinded-DBS “on” or “off” followed by a crossover. Primary outcomes were quality of life and quality of voice during the blinded phase. Patients continued with open-DBS “on.” Secondary outcomes were comparisons of pre- and 1-yr cognitive, mood, and quality of life. This trial was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02558634). RESULTS There were no complications. Every patient reported an improvement in quality of life (P = .07) and had an improvement in quality of their voice (P = .06) when their blinded DBS was “on” versus “off.” The trend did not reach statistical significance with the small sample size. Secondary outcomes showed no difference in cognition, an improvement in mood, and quality of life at 1 yr. CONCLUSION This phase I randomized controlled trial confirmed that DBS can be performed safely in patients with SD. Blinded DBS produced a strong trend toward improved quality of life and objective quality of voice despite the small sample size. The cerebellar circuit, not the pallidal circuit, appears to be crucial for motor control of the vocal folds.

Abstract:
Subject: Population aging is a trend in modern society and elderly people who have gained social and professional status claim a significant position in it. Factors, such as dissatisfaction with dental appearance, confusion when smiling or talking, chewing and speech disorders, significantly complicate a person's daily activities and negatively affect self-confidence and social behavior. The need for social reforming to extend working activity has become an inevitable result of population aging. The objective of this research was outlined by the need to improve the quality of life in elderly patients, to extend social longevity. This paper proposed provides information characterizing the structure of dental orthopedic morbidity in geriatric patients. The authors describe the results of their own research to identify the relationship between life quality indicators and dentition defect types in the group of patients under study. Methodology: The research involved an observational longitudinal prospective study with a double survey of respondents. An alternative version of the OHIP 14 questionnaire was chosen as a tool for studying the life quality. Results: It was found that dentition defects have a significant impact on the life quality of elderly populations Conclusion: Studying the structure of dental orthopedic morbidity can optimize provision of dental orthopedic care, improve life quality and prolong socialization of seniors.

Abstract:
Mortality is a critical measure of population’s health and public health systems. Infant mortality, for example, indicates quality of life, accessibility to primary healthcare and the overall health status of a country. Reduction in infant mortality shows improvement in the health status. No credible information about mortality in South Africa because the two previous censuses’ data from Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) were not reliable, this study makes attempt to bridge the gap in the lack of knowledge. Th is study uses South African General Household Survey (SAGHS) data, to fi nd the level and trend of mortality and their implications. Data for the years, 2012, 2013 and 2015, have been used. Demographic and statistical methods, including an evaluation of data quality using UN joint score, and construction of model life tables. The results indicated that the infant mortality rate (IMR) was 43 per 1000 in 2012, 36 per 1000 in 2013 and 21 per 1000 in 2015. Th is study further indicated that the general health status of South African population improved marginally from 2012 to 2015 because the life expectancy in creas ed by 7 years for the males, and by 8 years for females, between those years. The study results that SAGHS data are reliable, mortality is decreasing with increasing life expectancy. The study recommends that more proactive measures need to be put in place to improve the health status of the population, especially the children because the IMR is still quite high and creates concerns.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Therapeutic aims in IBDs are to induce remission through rapidly effective treatment. Conventional therapeutic methods including immunosuppression have been available for more than half a century with biological therapies the treatment of choice in patients who fail immunosuppressive drugs. There has been little attempt to longitudinally examine the differences in biopsychological factors and their associations with treatment modalities in IBD patients. Methods 50 IBD participants (24 UC, 26 CD) in clinical remission were followed for 12 months. Complete longitudinal datasets including demography, disease status (HBI, Mayo score), monthly stool and blood samples for inflammatory biomarkers, monthly validated scores of psychological state, baseline physiological state and autonomic function were collected for analysis of association. Microbiome analysis was performed using V4 16SrRNA for identification of microbial phylogenetic relationships. Patients were grouped on whether or not they were in remission on biological agents. Results CD: There was a larger magnitude of change in linear trends of anxiety (p = 0.007) in CD patients on non-biologic treatment. Quality of life (QOL), health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and faecal calprotectin measures were similar regardless of treatment. Longitudinal quadratic trends of CRP were significantly different between the two (p = 0.039) with the larger magnitude of change in non-biologic groups. CD patients had similar microbial profile when compared between two treatment groups. UC: Similar distributions of longitudinal psychological measures were found in two treatment groups, although results suggested significant linear trend (p = 0.019) in QOL scores but not with HRQOL. Faecal calprotectin had significant longitudinal linear trend (p = 0.016) with significant interaction between biologic therapy and this trend (p = 0.023). CRP had significant quadratic trend (p = 0.005) with strong interaction between biologic therapy and this trend (p = 0.009). Microbial α diversity was significantly different between two groups of treatments (Shannon; p = 0.041, evenness; p = 0.045) with biologic group having more diverse and more even microbial community. Conclusion Baseline biological and psychological factors were mostly similarly distributed between the two treatment options in remissive IBD patients, however biological therapy significantly influenced longitudinal trends of some psychological, inflammatory and microbiome dynamics, especially in UC. This suggests an underlying interrelationship between mode of treatment and biopsychological trajectories which might overshadow response to the treatment, requiring further assessment.

Abstract:
Objectives. Although numerous studies have examined health-related quality of life (HRQOL) longitudinally, little is known about the impact of seasonality on HRQOL. We examined trend and seasonal variations of population HRQOL. Methods. We used data from the monthly Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). We examined monthly observed mean physically and mentally unhealthy days from January 1993 to December 2006, using the structural time-series model to estimate the trend and seasonality of HRQOL. Results. We found overall worsening physical and mental health during the time period and a significant and regular seasonal pattern in both physical and mental health. The worst physical health was during the winter and the best physical health was during the summer. The mean number of physically unhealthy days in January was 0.63 days higher than in July. The worst mental health occurred during the spring and fall, but the magnitude of the seasonal effect was much smaller. The difference between the best and worst months of mentally unhealthy days was approximately 0.23 days. We found significant differences in unadjusted and season-adjusted unhealthy days in many counties. Conclusions. Our findings can be used to examine time-varying causal factors and the impact of interventions, such as policies designed to improve population health. Our findings also demonstrated the need for calculating season-adjusted HRQOL scores when examining cross-sectional factors on the population HRQOL measures for continuous surveys or longitudinal data.

Abstract:
Drug abuse poses great physical and psychological harm to humans, thereby attracting scholarly attention. It often requires experience and time for a researcher, just entering this field, to find an appropriate method to study drug abuse issue. It is crucial for researchers to rapidly understand the existing research on a particular topic and be able to propose an effective new research method. Text mining analysis has been widely applied in recent years, and this study integrated the text mining method into a review of drug abuse research. Through searches for keywords related to the drug abuse, all related publications were identified and downloaded from PubMed. After removing the duplicate and incomplete literature, the retained data were imported for analysis through text mining. A total of 19,843 papers were analyzed, and the text mining technique was used to search for keyword and questionnaire types. The results showed the associations between these questionnaires, with the top five being the Addiction Severity Index (16.44%), the Quality of Life survey (5.01%), the Beck Depression Inventory (3.24%), the Addiction Research Center Inventory (2.81%), and the Profile of Mood States (1.10%). Specifically, the Addiction Severity Index was most commonly used in combination with Quality of Life scales. In conclusion, association analysis is useful to extract core knowledge. Researchers can learn and visualize the latest research trend.
