Abstract:
Background The Australian Collaboration for Coordinated Enhanced Sentinel Surveillance (ACCESS) was established to monitor national testing and test outcomes for blood-borne viruses (BBVs) and sexually transmissible infections (STIs) in key populations. ACCESS extracts deidentified data from sentinel health services that include general practice, sexual health, and infectious disease clinics, as well as public and private laboratories that conduct a large volume of BBV/STI testing. An important attribute of ACCESS is the ability to accurately link individual-level records within and between the participating sites, as this enables the system to produce reliable epidemiological measures. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of GRHANITE software in ACCESS to extract and link deidentified data from participating clinics and laboratories. GRHANITE generates irreversible hashed linkage keys based on patient-identifying data captured in the patient electronic medical records (EMRs) at the site. The algorithms to produce the data linkage keys use probabilistic linkage principles to account for variability and completeness of the underlying patient identifiers, producing up to four linkage key types per EMR. Errors in the linkage process can arise from imperfect or missing identifiers, impacting the system’s integrity. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the quality of the linkages created and evaluate the outcome of the linkage for ongoing public health surveillance. Methods Although ACCESS data are deidentified, we created two gold-standard datasets where the true match status could be confirmed in order to compare against record linkage results arising from different approaches of the GRHANITE Linkage Tool. We reported sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values where possible and estimated specificity by comparing a history of HIV and hepatitis C antibody results for linked EMRs. Results Sensitivity ranged from 96% to 100%, and specificity was 100% when applying the GRHANITE Linkage Tool to a small gold-standard dataset of 3700 clinical medical records. Medical records in this dataset contained a very high level of data completeness by having the name, date of birth, post code, and Medicare number available for use in record linkage. In a larger gold-standard dataset containing 86,538 medical records across clinics and pathology services, with a lower level of data completeness, sensitivity ranged from 94% to 95% and estimated specificity ranged from 91% to 99% in 4 of the 6 different record linkage approaches. Conclusions This study’s findings suggest that the GRHANITE Linkage Tool can be used to link deidentified patient records accurately and can be confidently used for public health surveillance in systems such as ACCESS.

Abstract:
Statistical construction specifications based on multiple quality characteristics frequently use pay equations that include a separate term for each of the quality characteristics so that the resultant pay adjustment is a function of the combined effect of all quality measures. An alternate method that can be used to accomplish the same purpose is to base the pay equation on a single quality measure that is a composite of the individual quality measures. The latter approach, because it keys the various decision-making steps to a single performance indicator, simplifies the procedure and offers several practical advantages. It is believed that this approach makes significant strides toward the ultimate goal of developing quality assurance procedures that are at the same time technically sound, fair and effective, and easy to understand and apply. Examples of a two-variable case for hot-mix asphalt pavement and a general three-variable case are presented.

Abstract:
Customers expect satisfaction when employing a service. We have explored the applicability of two elements of service satisfaction: time and quality. The time element utilized two measures: consumption time and waiting time. The five elements of quality we utilized were: courtesy, attentiveness, ability, accuracy, professionalism. We found that the time factor was somewhat more significant than the quality factor in determining consumers satisfaction in the service experience situation and in the service accomplishment. Although this study was based on banking services the time and quality dimensions are generally present in all service industries.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a comprehensive framework for quality-related performance measures linked to supply chain risk (SCR) by analyzing and framing them into a hierarchical structure. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, quality-related performance measures (QM) are identified on the basis of literature survey and expert opinion. The quality measures are formulated as hierarchy structure and fuzzy AHP as a multi attribute decision-making tool is applied to judge the viable candidates. Findings Based on a fuzzy AHP approach, a revised risk matrix with a continuous scale was proposed to assess the QMs’ classes. The result classifies the QMs in different categories (extreme, high, medium and low). Based on this result, some management implications and suggestions are proposed. Originality/value The present work proposes an assessment methodology for quality-related performance measures linked to SCR. The revised risk matrix with continuous scale for risk assessment in this field is a novel approach. This study contributes to the supply chain management and quality management literature, and provides suggestions for managers to adopt different strategies for different risk classes.

Abstract:
As the primary link and the accepting link of power supply and sale, the quality of business expansion is directly related to the economic benefits and social profile of the power company. By many measures, such as reducing the link of process and delayering business expansion process, realizing multi link synchronous operation and integrally operating all qualified links, the process of high voltage business expansion project is optimized. The practice proves that these measures effectively reduce the average time of power access, and improve the level of power supply service. Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and earnings quality, as proxied by accrual earnings management, in Egyptian firms. This research is conducted in a bidirectional fashion using simultaneous equations and considers two theoretical perspectives. Design/methodology/approach The study employs CSR annual scores from the Egyptian environmental, social and governance index (S&P/ESG index) for the 100 highest scoring firms from 2007 to 2015. It utilizes three earnings quality measures, in addition to considering reverse causality and endogeneity. Findings The results indicate that CSR has a positive association with earnings quality only in the top CSR scoring firms (top 30 ranked firms according to the index). Engaging in CSR in such firms enhances the quality of their earnings. This suggests that firms with relatively lower CSR scores (bottom 70 ranked firms according to the index) may use CSR to “greenwash” weaker earnings. Research limitations/implications The findings suggest that researchers, analysts and policy makers should consider earnings quality when estimating the real value of a firm’s CSR score. In particular, the Egyptian S&P/ESG index committee could further develop the index by incorporating earnings quality measures. Originality/value The study contributes to the literature by exploring in-depth the causal relationship between CSR practices and accrual earnings management in an emerging market. The results provide a nuanced story of CSR practices, with accruals earnings management (earnings quality) acting as a mediator of CSR’s inherent value.

Abstract:
High-quality social relationships predict a range of positive health outcomes, but no broadly accepted theory can explain the mechanisms of action in this area. The central argument of this article is that affective science can provide keys for integrating the diverse array of theoretical models concerning relationships and health. From nine prominent theories, we cull four components of relational affect that link social resources to health-related outcomes. This component model holds promise for integrating research from the different theoretical perspectives and for generating new, mechanistic questions about the connection between relationships and health. The article closes by outlining three empirical study ideas that illustrate ways in which the different components can be studied together in the context of mechanism-focused research.

Abstract:
A link between musical keys and colors is common among musicians, although there has never been any agreement about which color matches which key. This study tested two alternative key-color associations: E is red and E b is green, or vice versa. 21 participants (10 men, 11 women; M age = 20 yr., SD = 3.3) with absolute pitch listened to melodies beginning with an anacrusis and a perfect cadence which were played through in C major. Then the melodies began in another key, while four or two colored squares were displayed (in Experiments 1 and 2, respectively). Participants were asked to chose the color which best matched the quality of the new key. The results showed strong support for the E red / E b green linkage.

Abstract:
The large-scale online teaching amid the pandemic triggered increasing concern over online teaching management and quality assurance. Take the theory of Total Quality Management (TQM) as guidance, a Chinese higher education institution (CHEI) built a multi-level, multi-link, and multi-dimensional teaching quality monitoring system (Online Teaching Quality Assurance Measures) with full participation, whole process, and all-round development by innovating teaching quality management and monitoring mechanism, aiming to ensure the continuous improvement of talent training quality to realize the sustainable development of application-oriented undergraduate universities with quality improvement as the core. The effectiveness of online teaching quality was demonstrated through the Questionnaire of Student Evaluation of Online Teaching Faculty and students’ academic performance (GPA) before and after the implementation of Online Teaching Quality Assurance Measures, guided by the principles of Total Quality Management theory. The results indicated that Online Teaching Quality Assurance Measures have a series of positive effects on online teaching in CHEI, and systematically guide online instructors as evidenced by outstanding ratings and feedback in course evaluations and students’ academic performance. This study also revealed that CHEI’s online teaching is facing some challenges, especially in the effort to promote learning interaction and teaching cooperation. The study underscored the importance of continuous improvement and provided some interventions in enhancing online educational practices, aligning with TQM principles. The findings are expected to make an important contribution to the field of online teaching quality management in higher education.

Abstract:
This paper examines the source of the documented empirical link between measures of “accruals quality” and a firm’s cost of capital. First, we argue that when regressions include accruals quality and operating volatility as determinants, these highly correlated measures capture different underlying constructs. Second, we find that in such regressions, the accruals quality measure displays inconsistent associations, while operating volatility variables display robust associations, with various cost of capital measures. Third, we provide research design suggestions to disentangle the effect of accruals quality from operating volatility, and we show how this method leads to less noisy coefficient estimates. These findings should be useful in designing empirical tests of the hypothesized associations involving accruals quality, operating volatility, and cost of capital.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Using path analysis, we investigate the direct and indirect links between three measures of earnings quality and the cost of equity. Our investigation is motivated by analytical models that specify both a direct link and an indirect link that is mediated by information asymmetry, but do not suggest which link would be more important empirically. We measure information asymmetry as both the adverse selection component of the bid-ask spread and the probability of informed trading (PIN). For a large sample of Value Line firms during 1993–2005, we find statistically reliable evidence of both a direct path from earnings quality to the cost of equity, and an indirect path that is mediated by information asymmetry, with the weight of the evidence favoring the direct path as the more important.

Abstract:
Traffic splitting enabled by Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous (GALS) Network-on-chip (NoC) brings multipath routing capability, which significantly increases link bandwidth at the cost of out-of-order packet delivery. Solving the packet reordering problem is one of the keys to ensure the quality of service (QoS) for NoC. However, traditional packet reordering approaches rely on local reorder buffer, causing on-chip hotspots, which aggravates chip aging and even leads to interconnection failures. In this paper, we present a multistage packet reordering (MPR) approach, which cannot only reduce the transmission latency but also effectively reduces hotspots caused by local reordering. Specifically, we propose multistage reordering buffer (MRB) by reusing channel buffers for implementing MPR. Experimental results show that our proposed approach achieved improved thermal efficiency with reduced hardware resource consumption.

Abstract:
In the era of globalization and borderless economies, performance improvement is not an option. It is a must for enhancing government's global competitiveness. Quality and performance of government employees need substantial improvement. In that regard, this study focuses on how performance-related pay (PRP) strategies strengthen the pay-performance link. Establishing PRP programs in government seems to be a good idea, but the Korean government's current experience with PRP shows a number of limitations. Recently, PRP and performance measures faced serious criticism from government employees for various reasons. PRP and performance measures must be improved in order to alleviate complaints and dissatisfaction. Cultural transformation, in particular, must occur for successful implementation of PRP measures.

Abstract:
Fraud cases in Malaysia which involve internet users have been on the rise despite the preventive measures that have been established and implemented in the country. Thus, to prevent fraud, it is critical to investigate Malaysian telecommunications users' perceptions on the important elements of the quality information system for the purpose of fraud risk management. In this study, the elements which are investigated include the quality of the system (QS), the quality of the information (QI), and quality of the users (QU) for fraud risk management (FRM). An online survey was conducted by sending out a survey link to 500 Internet users; however, only 55 people (11%) responded to the survey. Reliability analysis shows that all items on QS, QI, QU, and FRM were reliable because the Cronbach’ Alpha is more than 0.900. In terms of the importance of the variables under investigation, there are positive and significant relationships between the dependent variable which is FRM and the independent variables, that is, QS, QI and QU and vice versa. There are also positive and significant relationship between the QS, QI and QU.

Abstract:
PurposeThe quality of the customer journey has become a critical determinant of successful service delivery in contemporary business. Extant journey research focuses on the customer path to purchase, but pays less attention to the touchpoints related to service delivery and consumption that are key for understanding customer experiences in service-intensive contexts. The purpose of this study is to conceptualize service journey quality (SJQ), develop measures for the construct and study its key outcomes.Design/methodology/approachThe study uses a discovery-oriented research approach to conceptualize SJQ by synthesizing theory and field-based insights from customer focus group discussions. Next, using consumer survey data (N = 278) from the financial services context, the authors develop measures for the SJQ. Finally, based on an additional survey dataset (N = 239), the authors test the nomological validity and predictive relevance of the SJQ.FindingsSJQ comprises of three dimensions: (1) journey seamlessness, (2) journey personalization and (3) journey coherence. This study demonstrates that SJQ is a critical driver of service quality and customer loyalty in contemporary business. This study finds that the loyalty link is partially mediated through service quality, indicating that SJQ explains loyalty above and beyond service quality.Research limitations/implicationsSince service quality only partially mediates the link between service journey quality and customer loyalty, future studies should examine alternative mediators, such as customer experience, for a more comprehensive understanding of the performance effects.Practical implicationsThe study offers concrete tools for service managers who wish to understand and develop the quality of service journeys.Originality/valueThis study advances the service journey concept, demonstrates that the quality of the service journey is a critical driver of customer performance and provides rigorous journey constructs for future service research.

Abstract:
Vehicle trajectories derived from Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are used in various traffic applications based on trajectory quality analysis for the development of successful traffic models. A trajectory consists of points and links that are connected, where both the points and links are subject to positioning errors in the GNSS. Existing trajectory filters focus on point outliers, but neglect link outliers on tracks caused by a long sampling interval. In this study, four categories of link outliers are defined, i.e., radial, drift, clustered, and shortcut; current available algorithms are applied to filter apparent point outliers for the first three categories, and a novel filtering approach is proposed for link outliers of the fourth category in urban areas using spatial reasoning rules without ancillary data. The proposed approach first measures specific geometric properties of links from trajectory databases and then evaluates the similarities of geometric measures among the links, following a set of spatial reasoning rules to determine link outliers. We tested this approach using taxi trajectory datasets for Beijing with a built-in sampling interval of 50 to 65 s. The results show that clustered links (27.14%) account for the majority of link outliers, followed by shortcut (6.53%), radial (3.91%), and drift (0.62%) outliers.

Abstract:
Direct measures of labor-force quality from international mathematics and science test scores are strongly related to growth. Indirect specification tests are generally consistent with a causal link: direct spending on schools is unrelated to student performance differences; the estimated growth effects of improved labor-force quality hold when East Asian countries are excluded; and, finally, home-country quality differences of immigrants are directly related to U.S. earnings if the immigrants are educated in their own country but not in the United States. The last estimates of micro productivity effects, however, introduce uncertainty about the magnitude of the growth effects. (JEL O40, I20, J24)

Abstract:
The introduction of optical fiber has transformed the telecommunication industry and it has played a very important and key part in the information age. Optical fiber is widely preferred for data transmission to other media of communication because of their capability to carry extensive information and its dielectric nature. However, this mode of transmission has faced an issue of high latency which later reduces the throughput as well as reducing the quality of Experience at the customer side. This paper presents how different tests of throughput and latency were carried out using Viavi test kit, analyzed and then after compared the obtained results with the standard defined by IEEE and ITU for conformity. Some of the results conformed with the defined whereas others did not because of different reasons that include congestion of the link, faulty hardware on the network, poor quality of the fiber cable and the distance covered by the optical fiber link. The mitigation measures for the above causes were discussed in this paper and they include upgrading the bandwidth of the link, ensuring the use of quality fiber cables, regular maintenance in order to sight out the faulty components on the link as well as employment of several repeaters on long distance optical fiber links.

The individual’s emotional quality can influence their readiness in the digital learning ecosystem. This study aimed to examine whether there is a significant relationship between students’ readiness in the digital learning ecosystem and their emotional intelligence levels. This study utilized a correlational research method and multiple linear regression analysis. For data collection, the primary tools used were Trait Emotional Intelligence Scale-Short Form (TEIS-SF) and the Online Learning Readiness Scale (OLRS). The questionnaires were administered to 103 students enrolled in seven different higher institutions in Brunei. The results of the research showed that there was a link between students’ online learning readiness levels and their emotional intelligence levels. This study found that students with a high well-being sub-dimension of emotional intelligence had high online learning readiness levels.

Abstract:
SummarySubject and purpose of work: The subject of the research were the profiles of links (internal and outbound ones) of websites of rural tourism facilities in Poland. The purpose of the study was to assess the scale of the link rot phenomenon and its impact on the quality of websites of rural tourism facilities in Poland.Materials and methods: The assessment of the link profile was conducted using the Broken Link Checker application. The websites’ quality assessment (the degree of their optimization for search engines) was conducted using three different applications which automate tests. Results: A total of 919 websites were examined. Broken links were recorded on 464 sites, where approximately 65% of them had only a few broken links. Broken links that referred to the description of an offer or social media accounts were particularly unfavourable. No linear correlation was recorded between the number of broken links and the website’s optimization for search engines. Conclusions: The research demonstrated that the scale of the link rot phenomenon was relatively small in the group of the examined sites. It seems, however, that this was not the result of conscious design measures or optimization.

Abstract:
In recent times, the security of sensor networks, especially in the field of IoT, has become a priority. This article focuses on the security features of the Zigbee protocol in Xbee devices developed by Digi International, specifically in the Xbee 3 (XB3-24) devices. Using the TI LaunchXL-CC26X2R1 kit, we intercepted and analyzed packets in real-time using the Wireshark application. The study encompasses various stages of network formation, packet transmission and analysis of security key usage, considering scenarios as follows: without security, distributed security mode and centralized security mode. Our findings highlight the differences in security features of Xbee devices compared to the Zigbee protocol, validating and invalidating methods of establishing security keys, vulnerabilities, strengths, and recommended security measures. We also discovered that security features of the Xbee 3 devices are built around a global link key preconfigured therefore constituting a vulnerability, making those devices suitable for man-in-the-middle and reply attacks. This work not only elucidates the complexities of Zigbee security in Xbee devices but also provides direction for future research for authentication methods using asymmetric encryption algorithms such as digital signature based on RSA and ECDSA.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to analyze the link between power and the quality of decision. Participants were 50 employees from an organizational company, consisting of two groups (High-Power, N=24; Low-Power, N=26) based on the organization's hierarchical power position. To evaluate the quality of the decisions, all participants performed tasks involving choice among several alternatives in two separate moments of the same day: in the morning (at the beginning of the workday) and late afternoon (at the end of the workday). Additional subjective measures (fatigue, alertness, effort) and skin conductance were obtained. Results indicated that having high power in the organization was related to making better decisions, over and above the subjective levels of fatigue, alertness, effort, and physiological arousal. No effects of time-of-day were found on the decision making. Consistent with experimental research, having power facilitated decision-making performance in an organizational context.

Abstract:
Abstract Many performance indexes have been proposed to assess the quality of predicted rainfall fields. Each new index is generally tested on schematic cases or on case studies. A quality index of predicted rainfall fields is proposed based on the evolution versus scale of the correlation between observed and predicted areal rainfalls, for different scales of integrating surfaces. The authors examine this quality index with both an analytical and a numerical approach. The geostatistical structure of the rainfall field is assumed known. The index generally shows a fast increase around a scale, which is called “critical scale.” The effect on this index of a bad localization of the predicted field is to change the critical scale, and there is a simple link between the shift and this critical scale. This link depends on the short-range structure of the rainfall field for small shifts. The effect of having a reference known only by point measures and interpolation is a decrease of the index. An even repartition of the rain gauges improves the index. The critical scale for a perfectly localized simulation corresponds to a surface containing one rain gauge. If the simulation is badly localized, the index cannot see the bad localization if the shift is smaller than the distance between two rain gauges.

Abstract:
Abstract: We review research on response-latency based (“implicit”) measures of attitudes by examining what hopes and intentions researchers have associated with their usage. We identified the hopes of (1) gaining better measures of interindividual differences in attitudes as compared to self-report measures (quality hope); (2) better predicting behavior, or predicting other behaviors, as compared to self-reports (incremental validity hope); (3) linking social-cognitive theories more adequately to empirical research (theory-link hope). We argue that the third hope should be the starting point for using these measures. Any attempt to improve these measures should include the search for a small-scale theory that adequately explains the basic effects found with such a measure. To date, small-scale theories for different measures are not equally well developed.

Abstract:
The internet of things (IoT) has provided a promising opportunity to build powerful systems and applications. Security is the main concern in IoT applications due to the privacy of exchanged data using limited resources of IoT devices (sensors/actuators). In this paper, we present a classification of IoT modes of operation based on the distribution of IoT devices, connectivity to the internet, and the typical field of application. It has been found that the majority of IoT services can be classified into one of four IoT modes: gateway, device to device, collaborative, and centralized. The management of either public or symmetric keys is essential for providing security. In the present paper, we survey different key management protocols concerning IoT, which we further allocate in a map table. The map table is a link between modes of operation and the associated security key management elements. The main target of this mapping table is to help designers select the optimum security technique that provides the best balance between the required security level and IoT system mode constraints.

Abstract:
One of the keys of enhancing the quality of electric power supply resides in the accuracy of the consumption metering. Nowadays development of the sensors, devices and systems for electricity metering offers the basis for this service. Nevertheless, this achievement in many situations is altered such that appropriate measures must be adopted even if already significant costs have been registered. In this paper is proposed and discussed an optimal solution based on the identification and minimizing the measurement errors for increasing the electricity readings accuracy and lowering the electricity losses and related costs. In this regard, a mathematical model was developed and a particular algorithm for the mentioned problem is proposed and tested in the case of a power distribution company where an enhancement on average of the own technological consumption with 4% was recorded.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether a corporate orientation strategy facilitates the integration of Total Quality Management practices as well as entrepreneurial orientation enables the improvement of corporate social responsibility practices. Finally, whether total quality management improves measures of implemented social responsibility. Design – The research carried out was explanatory and transversal. Methodology/Approach – A 44-item survey on a five-point Likert scale was administered to 155 hotels threestars and above in the United States of America. Results were obtained from the application of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using Adanco software. Findings – The results indicate that entrepreneurial orientation has a positive influence on the establishment of total quality management and social responsibility processes; likewise, there is a very strong connection between these two variables. Originality of the research – The originality of this paper stands out because it simultaneously relates three variables relevant to the hotel sector. These variables are applied in different intensities, so that the results allow visualizing the way in which each of them takes place. Likewise, the study contributes to enhance empirical evidence and verify the different theoretical frameworks developed so far. For management, this means that companies will have to develop methods to measure and qualify each of the processes carried out. The result will enable them to select the processes that contribute most to the establishment of EO, TQM and CSR. In this way, resources will be saved that could be used in other areas.

Abstract:
The goal of this study is to explore the causal relationship between food (in)security and life satisfaction in a global setting. We explore this relationship using conventional ordinary least squares (OLS) regression and instrumental variable two-stage least squares (IV 2SLS) method. Using data from 105 countries over the period 2012–2019, we found that food insecurity is significantly and negatively related to life satisfaction. The results are robust even after controlling for GDP growth, government size, quality of political and legal institutions. In addition, by adopting natural disaster data, we show that food insecurity has causal negative effect on life satisfaction. In particular, a one standard deviation increase in instrumented food insecurity decreases life satisfaction by 0.8 points (slightly less than one standard deviation). The results remain robust for a series of tests. Future studies should extend our findings by exploring the role of food security in other measures of quality of life.

Abstract:
Abstract Few longitudinal studies link objectively assessed sleep and cognitive performance in ecologically-valid environments. Participants enrolled in the community-based Einstein Aging Study cohort (n=224, M[age]=77.17). Wake after sleep onset (WASO) was associated with worse cognitive performance with and without MCI (2-week smartphone-based EMA, six assessments/day). Models include age, gender, ethnicity, education, learning effects, sleep duration, WASO*MCI interaction (p=0.015 for Symbol Match; p=0.002 for Color Shape). Associations were stronger among those with MCI, thirty minutes more nightly WASO predicted a 500ms longer Symbol Match response time (p<0.0001), 5.05% higher Color Dot error proportion (p=0.002), 0.184 points lower Color Shape accuracy (p<0.0001). In those without MCI, WASO was associated with worse cognition: thirty minutes more nightly WASO predicted +166.7ms Symbol Match response time (p=0.03) and -0.06 points Color Shape accuracy (p=0.013). Actigraphic sleep quality associated with ambulatory cognitive performance (and worse with MCI status) suggests targets for prevention/mitigation of cognitive decline. Abstract:
Abstract:Daron Acemoglu, James Robinson and others are explaining divergent economic histories with qualitative measures of institutional quality – including Acemoglu and Robinson's popular inclusive/extractive dichotomy. While quantitative studies have sort to confirm these links using econometric proxies, few empirical accounts have shownhowthese proxies, or indeed the institutions they seek to represent actually influenced economic growth. This study helps fill that gap by testing whether evidence in Zambia's post-colonial history supports a proposed econometric link between its institutional quality and its slow economic growth. Support for this link is found in foreign investors’ interpretation of declining institutional constraint on Zambia's President as the potential for increased policy volatility, and as such an economic inducement to delay critical investment to Zambia's capital constrained economy. These findings add weight to the institutional argument in general, as well as present one concrete example in history of a mechanism through which institutional quality affected economic growth.

Abstract:
Link recommendation is a popular research subject in the field of social network analysis and mining. Often, the main emphasis is put on the development of new recommendation algorithms, semantic enhancements to existing solutions, design of new similarity measures, and so forth. However, relatively little scientific attention has been paid to the impact that various data representation models have on the performance of recommendation algorithms. And by performance we do not mean the time or memory efficiency of algorithms, but the precision and recall of recommender systems. Our recent findings unanimously show that the choice of network representation model has an important and measurable impact on the quality of recommendations. In this paper we argue that the computation quality of link recommendation algorithms depends significantly on the social network representation and we advocate the use of actor-fact matrix as the best alternative. We verify our findings using several state-of-the-art link recommendation algorithms, such as SVD, RSVD, and RRI using both single-relation and multirelation dataset.

Abstract:
A randomized controlled trial was conducted in spinal treatment centres in three European countries to evaluate the effectiveness of using Internet-based video-link technology in the first six months after patients were discharged following spinal cord injury. Standardised measures were used with participants prior to randomization to either trial or control group. Both groups received standard post-discharge support, but in addition the trial group had regular videoconference sessions. Each participant received an assessment at two months’ and six months’ post-discharge. The 1 37 participants recruited over two years had a mean age of 42 years. Interim data analysis with 77 patients revealed a significant difference between the trial and control groups when quality of life intra-subject score differences between discharge and month 6 were compared (P = 0.025). Medical complications were not significantly different between trial and control groups. The video-link was well received by the trial group, who preferred to see the person they conversed with. Regular expert consultation using video-link technology benefited participants’ quality of life.

Abstract:
Introduction/objective: Restaurants are fundamental to the global economy and a key driver of the transition to sustainability. The restaurant industry faces the challenge of balancing the demand for high-quality food with the need to adopt sustainable practices to preserve the environment and promote a more viable future. In this sense we wonder how the topic has been approached from the academic?, what has been researched regarding the implementation of environmental sustainability practices in the restaurant industry? Methodology: This systematic review examines the existing literature published between 2007 and 2023 on sustainable practices in restaurants. Results: As a result of the search, 131 articles were analyzed in detail, focusing on year of publication, associated keywords, and sustainable practices developed in case studies. Subsequently, the review was conducted to discuss three themes; positive experiences of sustainable practices in restaurants, criticism of practices far from sustainability, and the link between sustainable practices and the capabilities of managers and employees in the restaurant and foodservice sector. Conclusions: The conclusions highlight the importance of considering aspects related to organizational motivation, waste management, service quality, supply chain and the adoption of innovative technologies, as the main keys to incorporate sustainable processes in the restaurant industry.

Abstract:
Development of drug delivery systems for chronic disorders needs a complex thinking in order to ensure the quality of the product. A multidisciplinary approach of pharmaceutical technology, regulatory and behavioral sciences on the basis of the Quality by Design methodology can be a proper tool for this to handle formulators’, patients’, and also doctors’ needs in therapy planning in case of chronic ophthalmologic disorders. According to the present state-of-the-art”, patient perceptions are collected in the form of the “Patient Reported Outcome Measurements” during the clinical trials, but no feedback is given to the formulation development in order to take these aspects into consideration when designing a new product. This work aims to link the key performance indicators from patients’ point of view to the pharmaceutical development and show a new approach to product development by evaluating the patient and formulator aspect as critical quality attributes within the classical Quality by Design workflow. This study can be the basis of the formulation design and development of a new ophthalmic formulation as it revealed the patient critical needs and requirement.

Abstract:
Online courses present a new element to learners in college courses. Interfaces (web pages) take the place of an instructor as the primary information delivery system. In other words, a student’s learning experience is now tied to the quality of a course’s human- computer interaction. One emerging method of online course delivery is an adaptive course that tailors to individual students needs, abilities, or preferences. There has been much work done on the algorithms that allow the course to adapt to individual students, but there seems to be a lack of research into the usability of these interfaces and how their quality affects student performance and satisfaction. This paper presents some of the data that was collected in a larger, grant-supported project and establishes relationships between usability metrics (ease of use and perceived usefulness) and student satisfaction and outcome measures in adaptive-online courses.

Abstract:
Freedom and equality are the content, the substance and the tension in a liberal democracy of today. Freedom and equality describe the design, stability and the quality of a democracy. Especially in a Quintuple Helix Model, the quality of democracy and sustainable development are closely related, because a high-quality democracy is a prerequisite for promoting sustainability in democracies. By investigating the quality of democracy this article develops two theses: 1.) Democracy with their quality rises or falls with the expression of freedom and/or equality; 2.) Democracy generates its stability from a balanced interaction between freedom and equality. With the concept of Democratic Life this article examines these two theses: Democratic Life as newly developed concept measures the quality of democracy with providing information about the type of a democracy and an approach to measure a democracy´s democratic development for the top 20 of the Democracy Ranking (2009). The central keys of the Democratic Life concept are the ‘Index of Classification’ and the ‘Democratic-Life-Index’, which are formed from an ‘Index of Freedom’ and an ‘Index of Equality’. By empirical examination of the research question of Democratic Life two essential questions in the modern democratic theory can be investigated: 1.) How democratic is a democracy? 2.) How much freedom and equality does a liberal democracy need? The countries analyzed for the Democratic Life concept in this article are the United States, Australia, Sweden and Germany in comparison between 1995 and 2008. This degree of democratic quality will create a lot of problems towards developing sustainability in a democracy, because in the United States there is currently a big disparity between freedom and equality.

Abstract:
Despite decades of research, the relationship between the quality of science and the value of inventions has remained unclear. We present the result of a large-scale matching exercise between 4.8 million patent families and 43 million publication records. We find a strong positive relationship between the quality of the scientific contributions referenced in patents and the value of the respective inventions. We rank patents by the quality of the science to which they are linked. Strikingly, high-ranking patents are twice as valuable as low-ranking patents, which, in turn, are about as valuable as patents without a direct science link. We show this core result for various science quality and patent value measures. The effect of science quality on patent value remains relevant even when science is linked indirectly through other patents. Our findings imply that what is considered excellent within the science sector also leads to outstanding outcomes in the technological and commercial realms.

Abstract:
We established a low-cost telemedicine link from a district general hospital to the regional paediatric cardiology department about 120km away. The link was used to transmit echocardiographic images of newborn infants suspected of having congenital heart disease (CHD) to the referral centre, with simultaneous video and audio contact for consultation. Echocardiograms were transmitted for 61 patients suspected of having CHD, aged from 1 to 42 days. The transmitted images were of adequate quality for the paediatric cardiologist to make a diagnosis in 59 (97%). Congenital heart abnormalities were diagnosed in 38 (64%). Twelve patients (20%) had major CHD diagnosed on the transmitted scan and required transfer to the regional cardiology unit either urgently or electively after initial measures to stabilize the patient.
