Abstract:
This work was performed to produce a new soft ewe’s milk cheese, namely “Quadrello di ovino” (QdO) cheese, to enlarge ewe’s dairy product portfolio of South Italy, barely limited to Pecorino cheese typology. Cheese making was performed applying the technology for “Crescenza” cheese typology with some modifications. In particular, pasteurized ewes’ milk was inoculated with two commercial starter formulations (SF1 and SF2) of Streptococcus thermophilus to obtain two different productions (QdO-P1 and QdO-P2, respectively). Plate counts demonstrated the ability of both starter formulations to drive the fermentation process, since S. thermophilus counts reached 109 CFU/g in both productions. Generally, the two starter formulations did not affect the chemical composition of QdO cheeses that contained, on average, 64.08% dry matter of which approximately 54.99% were fats and 36.39% proteins. Among chemical parameters, significant differences were registered for secondary lipid oxidation state (significantly lower for QdO-P2), fatty acids and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). However, the differences registered among cheese VOCs from were not perceived by the panelists who recognized both cheese productions highly similar, although QdO-P2 cheeses were mostly appreciated by the judges. This study allowed to produce a novel fresh ovine cheese with specific chemical and sensorial characteristics well appreciated by consumers.

Abstract:
<p>Despite ageist stereotypes about older people’s abilities to engage with information and communication technologies, grandparents are increasingly engaged with digital media. Grandmothers, in particular, are primarily responsible for using of web-based services to communicate with their children and grandchildren (Quadrello et al., 2005). Photos and news from children and grandchildren, especially grandbabies, act as important incentives for grandparents to go online. The purpose of the study, therefore, was to investigate how grandmothers use Facebook to facilitate family communication with children and grandchildren who move far away from home. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with grandmothers living in Romania and Canada, having a Facebook account and relevant family members (children or grandchildren) far from home. Three themes emerged from the data indicating: 1) the tendency to switch between different platforms to facilitate family communication; 2) the relative passive use of Facebook, focusing on photos and quotations as content that trigger emotions; 3) that Facebook usage is influenced by social norms around decency and privacy. Findings suggest that family relationships play a central role in grandmothers’ motivations and behaviours surrounding Facebook use.</p>

Abstract:
Neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) are self-renewing, multipotent cells located in the embryonic and adult central nervous system (CNS). Extensive preclinical and clinical studies have shed light on the potential of stem cell replacement therapy for various neurodegenerative diseases. The key prerequisite for the success of these clinical applications is the procurement of a sufficient number of high-quality NSPCs. In this study, we explored the biological activity of Quadrella incana leaf in NSPC homeostasis. We showed that the leaf extract of Quadrella incana upregulated NSPC marker and proliferative potential. On the other hand, Quadrella incana leaf suppressed spontaneous unintended NSPC differentiation. Mechanistically, Quadrella incana leaf contributed to the maintenance of NSPCs by upregulating glycolytic flux and redox potential.

Abstract:
Four generic names for Brachyura were found to be preoccupied: Epithelphusa Rodríguez & Smalley, 1969, Forsteria Bott, 1969, Odhneria Sakai, 1983, and Villalobosus Ng & Alvarez, 2000. Replacement names are here proposed for them. Two junior homonyms, Psaumis Kossmann, 1877, and Quadrella Dana, 1851, do not need to be replaced as the senior homonyms have not been used as valid names since 1899, and the implementation of Article 23 of the Code allows the names to be maintained as a nomina protecta. The nomenclature of three other names: Mithrax Latreille, 1816, Naxia Latreille, 1825, and Thia Leach, 1816, are also discussed.

Ensslin, Astrid. "‘I want to say I may have seen my son die this morning’: Unintentional unreliable narration in digital fiction." Language and Literature: International Journal of Stylistics 21, no. 2 (May 2012): 136–49. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0963947011435859.

Abstract:
This article offers comparative close readings of two digital fictions that feature various types and degrees of unintentional unreliable narration. Its prime focus lies on the affordances and restraints provided by hypertextual, multilinear, multimodal, interactive and ludic new media with respect to the aesthetic representation and textual embedding of unreliability. To this end, I have chosen narratives from two ‘generations’ of digital fiction – a hyperfiction par excellence, and a hypermedia narrative, both of which are multilinear by definition yet deal with the ideas of closure and narrative framing in very different ways. In particular, I shall examine how unintentional, psycho-pathological unreliability in the sense of Riggan’s (1981; cf. Heyd, 2006; Jahn, 1998) ‘madman’ are represented in afternoon, a story (Joyce, 1987) and the German hypermedia novel Quadrego (Maskiewicz, 2001). My comparative analysis shows how manifestations of deviant yet not devious, in the sense of quietly deceptive narration, are aesthetically enriched by techniques afforded by the digital medium, such as hypertextual multilinearity, lack of or partial closure, multisensory experience, fluid transitions and boundaries and, most significantly, the play with reader agency, which may – in cases of radical multilinearity – even lead to readerly unreliability.

Abstract:
A revision of the family Trapeziidae Miers, 1886, has shown that it consists of three clades, one of which is elevated to family status, Tetraliidae fam. nov., for the genera Tetralia Dana, 1851, and Tetraloides Galil, 1986. The genera Trapezia Latreille, 1828, Calocarcinus Calman, 1909, Hexagonalia Galil, 1986, Philippicarcinus Garth & Kim, 1983, Quadrella Dana, 1851, and Sphenomerides Rathbun, 1897, remain in the Trapeziidae; Domecia Eydoux & Souleyet, 1842, Jonesius Sankarankutty, 1962, Maldivia Borradaile, 1902, Palmyria Galil & Takeda, 1986, and the fossil genus Eomaldivia M ller & Collins, 1991, in Domeciidae Ortmann, 1893. Cladistic analysis shows that Trapeziidae sensu Miers, 1886, consists of three clades that show convergence as a result of similar habits as symbionts of reef corals and other cnidarians. A list of all recognised genera and species in the three families and their primary synonyms is provided. Keys are also included for four families of Brachyura symbiotic with reef corals, and for the genera and species of Domeciidae, Tetraliidae, and Trapeziidae. Some rare colour figures are reproduced. Three name changes have resulted within the Tetraliidae: Cancer glaberrimus Herbst, 1790, for Tetralia fulva Ser ne, 1984, and Cancer mutus Linnaeus, 1758, for Tetralia armata Dana, 1852, and Tetralia vanninii Galil & Clark, 1988. Nomenclatural problems associated with the repeated use of "forma typica" for various species of Trapezia and Tetralia are resolved. To stabilise the nomenclature of a number of well-known species, neotypes are designated for 13 species of Trapeziidae for which type material is not extant: Trapezia cymodoce (Herbst, 1801), and its three synonyms (Trapezia dentifrons Latreille, 1828, Trapezia dentata var. subintegra Dana, 1852, Trapezia cymodoce var. ornatus Chen, 1933); Trapezia bidentata (Forsk l, 1775), and one of its synonyms (Trapezia ferruginea Latreille, 1828); Trapezia digitalis Latreille, 1828, and one of its synonyms (Trapezia nigrofusca Stimpson, 1858); Trapezia septata Dana, 1852, and one of its synonyms (Trapezia reticulata Stimpson, 1858); Trapezia areolata Dana, 1852; Trapezia bella Dana, 1852; and Trapezia speciosa Dana, 1852. Neotypes are also designated for seven species of Tetraliidae: Tetralia glaberrima (Herbst, 1790), and three synonyms (Trapezia integra Latreille, 1828, Trapezia serratifrons Jacquinot, 1846, Tetralia laevissima Stimpson, 1858); Tetralia muta (Linnaeus, 1758), and one of its synonyms (Tetralia armata Dana, 1852); and Tetraloides nigrifrons (Dana, 1852).

Abstract:

The influence of loubok (Russian popular print) on Dostoevsky’s works is a topic deserving more attention than has been given up to now. It makes us understand how Dostoevsky got inspiration from popular iconography. The present article could be a further contribution to this research topic; its aim being to investigate the recurrence in Dostoevsky’s poetics of a particular typology of popular print, showing how a wife beats her husband after he came back home drunk. This loubok spread widely through Russia (the peasant family version) and Germany (the cobbler version). In particular the German version, which had a wide readership thanks to the German printer G. Renner and was named “Der Blaue Montag” was undoubtedly known to Dostoevsky, since it was widespread in the very period he travelled through Germany. In this paper I will try to show how the Russian novelist caught not only the general setting but also some details from this version to describe Marmeladov’s home in the scene (I, 2) when he comes back home and faces a violent welcome from his wife Katerina Ivanovna.
