Abstract:
Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is a modulation scheme used by digital communication systems to obtain high data rates in bandwidth-limited channels. M-ary QAM schemes with M values greater than 256 are currently used by wireless network standards, such as WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 (final standard will be released in 2024), which use the 1024-QAM and 4096-QAM modulation schemes, respectively. With the continuous development of technology for digital communication systems, both wireline and wireless, it is essential to research regarding advanced modulation schemes. This study discusses the simulation of the 1024-QAM and 4096-QAM modulation schemes using MATLAB software to compare the performance of the two modulation schemes in data transmission through the AWGN channel without using an error control code. The simulation results show that 4096-QAM is superior to 1024-QAM but requires higher Eb/N0 and SNR values. The Eb/N0 value required by the 4096-QAM to achieve a bit error ratio (BER) of 10-4 is 31 dB, while the 1024-QAM requires an Eb/N0 value of 26 dB.

Abstract:
Communication channels that are affected by various disturbances will cause a high Bit Error Rate (BER). To maximize the performance of the channel in the future, Filter Bank Multicarrier (FBMC) technique is used as a renewal of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). FBMC has better spectrum efficiency properties due to the nature of orthogonality which only divides bandwidth for sub-channels. The purpose of the research was to knowing the performance of FBMC Offset QAM (FBMC O-QAM) which has a variation of modulation levels of 4-QAM, 16-QAM, and 64-QAM. The Zero Forcing (ZF) method is used to detect the original signal sent by the transmitting antenna. System performance in this study was measured by parameter Bit Error Rate (BER) and channel capacity. The results showed that the FBMC O-QAM system with ZF has decreased BER value on each modulation. At the time of modulation 4 QAM has a BER value of 0.0008945 with an SNR value of 20 dB. Modulation 16 QAM also experienced the same thing when the SNR value of 20 dB has BER value of 0.001856, and at modulation 64 QAM has BER value of 0.01766 at a SNR of 20 dB. Besides decreasing the BER parameters, the FBMC O-QAM ZF system has own characterize in channel capacity. For the 4-QAM has 4.808 b/s/Hz, 16-QAM has 4.627 b/s/Hz, and 64-QAM has 3.903 b/s/Hz at SNR 20 dB. It conclude that 4-QAM has a best channel capacity enhancement. The value of channel capacity generated based on simulations using Zero Forcing shows an increase in value along with an increase in SNR, but has a smaller value compared to channel capacity in theory.

Abstract:
<p>Adaptive quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is a crucial scheme that enables the modern communication systems to overcome the adverse effects of channel fluctuations and maintain an acceptable spectral efficiency. In order to enhance adaptive modulation even further, adoption of odd-bit QAM constellations alongside even constellations had been suggested to improve the transmission efficiency of adaptive QAM modulation. Hence, odd-bit QAM had been extensively studied, analyzed, and tested by many researchers for various patterns, sizes, and communication systems in terms of bit error rate (BER) and peak to average power ratio (PAPR). However, the PAPR performance of odd-bit QAM constellation with single carrier transmission systems adopted in the uplink of the 4G long term evolution (LTE) standards caught almost no research interest. In this paper, the PAPR performance of both cross and rectangular odd-bit QAM constellations are investigated for DFT-S-OFDM systems. Complementary cumulative distribution functions (CCDFs) and probability density functions (PDFs) curves for PAPR are also obtained. Finally, an equation for PAPR PDF is empirically derived for odd-bit cross QAM based DFT-S-OFDM. The results show that cross odd-bit QAM outperforms the rectangular odd-bit QAM in terms of PAPR by 1.02 dB for 8-QAM and 1.3 dB for 32-QAM. This proves that cross odd-bit QAM is a better choice in terms of PAPR for DFT-S-OFDM systems. </p>

M-ary modulation schemes are considered one of widely used digital modulation in practice because of its high efficiency in power and bandwidth. Therefore, this necessity the need to study and evaluate the performance of M-ary schemes using simulation techniques. In this paper, the performance of M-ary modulations schemes M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is considered. Because of its efficiency in power and bandwidth, M-ary QAM (M-QAM) is one of the widely used modulation techniques in practice. Therefore, a need for studying and evaluating the performance of QAM modulation schemes is an important task for designers. In this paper, M-QAM modulation schemes for even number of bits per symbol (16, 62, and 256-QAM) and an odd number of bits per symbol (32- and 128-QAM), over Additive White Gaussian Noise channel, are studied. A VisSim/Comm simulation[1] model for M-QAM is designed. Theoretical and simulation results for bit error ratio (BER) performance of QAM modulation schemes are obtained using VisSim/Comm software. The results are evaluated and compared.

The capacity and mobility of access networks can be increased by utilizing ROF systems. Modulation of optical signals can be done with direct optical modulation techniques or external optical modulation. In this journal, the performance of the two optical modulation techniques is compared. The input RF signals used are 4-QAM, 16-QAM, and 64-QAM modulated RF signals with a frequency of 60 GHz. The simulation results show that chromatic dispersion causes a very large power decrease in the received RF signal repeatedly. In the direct optical modulation ROF system with input in the form of 4-QAM, 16-QAM, and 64-QAM modulated RF signals, there is a decrease in power at the same fiber length, namely at 1 and 3 km fiber length. Abstract:
Abstract This paper proposes a new Matlab-developed algorithm for automatic recognition of digital modulations using the constellation of states. Using this technique the automatic distinction between four digital modulation schemes (8-QAM, 16-QAM, 32-QAM and 64-QAM) was made. It has been seen that the efficiency of the algorithm is influenced by the type of modulation, the value of the signal-to-noise ratio and the number of samples. In the case of an AWGN noise channel the simulation results indicated that the value of SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) has a small influence on the recognition rate for lower-order QAM (8-QAM and 16-QAM). The length of the signal may change essentially the recognition rate of this algorithm especially for modulations with a high number of bits per symbol. Consequently, for the 64-QAM modulation in a case of 25dB signal-to-noise ratio the recognition rate is doubled if the sample rate is incresed from 5400 to 80640.

Abstract:
Antibacterial polymers suitable for coating applications without leaching of the biocidal component have been obtained by UV copolymerization of acrylic resins with acrylic monomers containing quaternary ammonium moieties. Suitable reactive biocides, based on quaternary ammonium monomers (QAMs), endowed with undecylacryloyl group and alkyl chains with 2 (QAM-C2), 8 (QAM-C8), and 16 (QAM-C16) carbon atoms have been synthesized. Aqueous solutions of QAMs showed biocidal activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes strains both in suspension and adhered to stainless steel surfaces. QAM-C16 and QAM-C8 evidenced higher activity toward bacteria in suspension and on stainless steel, respectively. The QAMs have shown sufficient reactivity to be copolymerized, by UV irradiation, with a commercial urethane acrylic resin for coating. Bioactivity tests, performed on free films of crosslinked coatings containing 1% of copolymerized QAM, have shown an increasing inactivation effect in the order of magnitude L. monocytogenes &lt; E. coli &lt; S. aureus with a maximum activity of the QAM-C8.

Abstract:
This reseach simulates and analyzes paramaters bit error rate (BER) of 16-QAM and 64-QAM modulation on Additive White Gaussian Noise and Rayleigh Fading channels. This research aims to determine 5G modulation with the level of data quality after the transmission process is carried out. The modulation simulation results obtained will be compared with the theoretical bit error rate (BER). The simulation results obtained from the two channel scenarios used are 16-QAM modulation reaching BER 10-4, AWGN channel only requires 15 dB Eb/N0 and for Rayleigh Fading channel it requires 38 dB Eb/N0. The BER theoretical results obtained for the 16-QAM modulation of the AWGN channel have a difference of 3 dB with the simulation results, while for the Rayleigh Fading channel it is 5 dB. Then, the simulation results of 64-QAM modulation AWGN channel to achieve BER 10-4 requires Eb/N0 of 24.6 dB, Rayleigh Fading of 47 dB. The theoretical results of BER obtained for the 64-QAM modulation of the AWGN channel have a difference of 1 dB with the simulation results, while for the Rayleigh Fading channel it is 0.5 dB. In this study, between 16-QAM and 64-QAM 5G modulation is more suitable to use 16-QAM modulation because it requires less power to achieve the desired BER 10-4.

The thesis focuses on consideration of possible ways how to realize multi-state modulators for a laboratory instrument. This instrument will illustrate signals, which partake on generation QAM modulation. The design of the laboratory instrument includes theoretic schemata and the execution of a prototype. There are theoretical facts of multi-state signals and multi-state modulations in this thesis. A simple block diagram of the laboratory instrument is made by the theory of creating quadrature amplitude modulation. For each block there are made several schemata, which are compiled to the global scheme. A printed circuit board and the structure items are made by the aid of the global scheme. The next part is devoted to a software facility for a used microprocessor, which ensures the whole function of the laboratory instrument. The final section deals with measuring, which checks the function of the modulator and the right setting coder’s constellation diagrams.

Abstract:
In this paper, we first describe a 9-symbol non-uniform signaling scheme based on Huffman code, in which different symbols are transmitted with different probabilities. By using the Huffman procedure, prefix code is designed to approach the optimal performance. Then, we introduce an algorithm to determine the optimal signal constellation sets for our proposed non-uniform scheme with the criterion of maximizing constellation figure of merit (CFM). The proposed nonuniform polarization multiplexed signaling 9-QAM scheme has the same spectral efficiency as the conventional 8-QAM. Additionally, we propose a specially designed GF(32) nonbinary quasi-cyclic LDPC code for the coded modulation system based on the 9-QAM non-uniform scheme. Further, we study the efficiency of our proposed non-uniform 9-QAM, combined with nonbinary LDPC coding, and demonstrate by Monte Carlo simulation that the proposed GF(23) nonbinary LDPC coded 9-QAM scheme outperforms nonbinary LDPC coded uniform 8-QAM by at least 0.8dB.
This dissertation deals with low-cost techniques for detection, modulation and demodulation of high order M-QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) constellations, i.e., M = 2n, n = {2,3, · · · ,16}. In addition, alternative constellations are proposed to M-QAM, M = 22n, n = {1,2, · · · ,8}, which seek to minimize the PAPR (peak to average power ratio) when an OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) system is used for data transmission. A low-cost implementation using a FPGA (field programmable gate array) device of a modulation scheme for constant and adaptive OFDM systems when the modulation is M-QAM, M = 22n, n = {1,2, · · · ,8}, is described and analyzed. The performance of the proposed detection techniques is evaluated through computer simulations when the noise is AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) and AIGN (additive impulsive Gaussian noise). The results in terms of BER × Eb/N0 indicate that the performance losses generated by the proposed techniques are not significant and, therefore, such techniques are appropriate candidates for the implementation of an OFDM system with high spectral efficiency. The computational results reveal that the alternative proposals for M-QAM constellations reduce the PAPR, but, considerably degrade the BER. Finally, the analysis of computational complexity of detection and demodulation techniques, which were implemented in a FPGA device, indicates that there is a computational cost reduction, i.e., a reduction of resource usage of hardware device such as FPGA when these techniques are implemented for the demodulation and detection of high-order M-QAM symbols.

Spectral efficiency is the key factor for the development of future wireless communications. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) is the multiple access technology used at physical layer of latest wireless communication technologies. Anything on the improvement or overcoming the disadvantage of the present system will be considered for the future wireless systems. Long Term Evolution (LTE) is one of the 4th generation wireless communications and it is taken as the reference system in this thesis. The main concern of this thesis is to analyze the LTE radio frame. We designed and simulated the OFDM system with cyclic prefix, its Bit Error Rate (BER) is verified by changing the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) value and we investigated the OFDM system by eliminating the cyclic prefix. By eliminating cyclic prefix bandwidth efficiency is achieved, though using cyclic prefix in OFDM has more advantages. Filter banks are used to compensate the advantages of cyclic prefix when it is removed. Introducing Offset in QAM results in less distortion and amplitude fluctuations. We designed, simulated and compared the QAM digital modulation with Offset-QAM digital modulation its BER vs. SNR are verified using simulations on MATLAB.

Abstract:
Optical implementation of two-dimensional (2-D) quadratic associative memory (QAM) that needs parallel N6 weighted interconnections is described. We show that fully adaptive interconnections for the 2-D QAM are realizable by using two 2-D holographic lenslet arrays and two spatial light modulators (SLM’s). Thus two extensions of our previous work1 are proposed; they are learning capability and storage of 2-D images in QAM. We also show basic experimental results for the 2-D QAM.

Perski, Olga, Danielle D'Lima, and James Brown. FSA Quality Assurance Toolkit. Food Standards Agency, March 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.46756/sci.fsa.dak566.

Abstract:
During the production and assessment of high-quality research, it is important to be open about how that research was produced and what can be concluded from it. The FSA set out to develop a ‘good science’ Quality Assurance Toolkit (QAT) to support its members to produce, assess and procure high-quality research. The FSA QAT was developed between February and August 2022 through a process of co-creation. A series of focus groups were held with FSA staff in March 2022. This was followed by a scoping review of internal and external guidance to help populate the QAT. The QAT was iteratively developed through multiple rounds of feedback from the FSA Advisory Committee for Social Science and was piloted on several study protocols, research reports, and tender specifications. The resulting QAT is intended to be easy to use whilst also supporting transparency in how scientific evidence is produced, assessed, and procured, to ensure that quality assurance is consistently applied across research projects and FSA staff.

Abstract:
This paper summarizes research designed to characterize the current state of pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with respect to the adoption of Quality Risk Management as per ICH Q9. The research supports the hypotheses that the full value of QRM with respect to product quality and patient safety has not yet been realized. In addition, industry appears to be lagging behind regulatory expectations with respect to QRM maturity, indicating that current approaches to QRM require significant improvement.

Lee, Jusang, John E. Haddock, and Jongmyung Jeon. Development of Volumetric Acceptance and Percent Within Limits (PWL) and Criteria for Stone Metrix Asphalt (SMA) Mixtures in Indiana. Purdue University, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.5703/1288284317580.

Full text
Abstract:
SMA is to be designed based on SMA volumetric properties in terms of air voids content (Va), voids in the mineral aggregate (VMA), and adequate stone-on-stone contact. For construction quality assurance (QA) purposes, INDOT currently accepts SMAs based on aggregate gradation and asphalt binder content. Thus, there is a discrepancy between SMA design criteria and construction acceptance. To better align design and construction, it is necessary to consider SMA volumetric properties in the use of QA. For HMA mixtures, INDOT has already transitioned from volumetric QA acceptance procedures to PWL. Today, SMA still uses adjustment points not based on robust statistics for QA acceptance. SMA QA samples and QA data sets were collected from projects constructed in 2019 and tested in the laboratory. The Hamburg Wheel Track Test (HWTT) was performed on the 2019 QA samples to evaluate SMA rutting performance. Additionally, the PWL for HMA was applied to the 2019 SMA QA data to see if the HMA PWL method would work for SMA. Possible SMA QA measurements were compared to past QA data and HMA QA measurements. In addition, Voids in the Coarse Aggregate (VCA) was evaluated as a possible SMA QA measurement. Finally, using the suitable QA measurements for SMA, a PWL parameter study was performed to find PWL that provides a Pay Factor (PF) equivalent to the current SMA Adjustment Point (AP) PF. The current SMA QA measurements (binder content, gradation, and density) are recommended for Indiana's SMA PWL. Based on the results of applying PWL to SMA QA data for the last four years, SMA PWL specification limits are recommended. Also, the SMA PF equations are suggested to get the SMA PWL to have PF equivalent to the current AP PF.
