Abstract:
Five new intramolecularly coordinated aluminum species, whose molecular structures have been elucidated in solution by NMR spectroscopy and in the solid state by single crystal X-ray analysis, are described. All species are equipped with a trisyl-based ligand with a pyridyl donor group [Pytsi stands for -C(SiMe3)2SiMe2(2-C5H4N)]. While the compound (Pytsi)AlMeCl was accessible either from Li(THF)(Pytsi) and MeAlCl2 or from (Pytsi)AlCl2 and LiMe, the tert-butyl derivative (Pytsi)AltBuCl could only be obtained from Li(THF)(Pytsi) and tBuAlCl2. Attempted synthesis of (Pytsi)AltBuCl from (Pytsi)AlCl2 and LitBu or from (Pytsi)AlCl2 and tBuMgCl failed. Three other compounds (3-5) were synthesized and can be described as derivatives of (Pytsi)AlMe2 with additional groups in the ortho position of the pyridyl group. Compound 3 carried a Me group in the ortho position, while compounds 4 and 5 were equipped with Ph and 2,6-diisopropylphenyl moieties, respectively.Key words: aluminum, trisyl ligands, methyl alanes.

Abstract:
This case report describes the extraordinary recovery of Father Ronald Pytel from valvular cardiac disease. Father Pytel had developed severe left ventricular dysfunction and congestive heart failure from aortic valvular disease. Following aortic valve replacement surgery, his condition did not improve. Following a healing Mass on the Feast Day of Blessed Faustina Kowalska and through her intercession, he demonstrated a complete recovery. The doctors of the Sacred Congregation for the Cause of Saints voted that the sudden change from a severely damaged left ventricle of the heart to a normal functioning left ventricle cannot be explained by natural medical science. This case was used in the process of Saint Faustina's canonization.

The rate constants of the reaction of triethylamine with ethyl iodide have been measured in 15 solvents at the temperatures of 293, 313, 333 and 373 K. The solvent characteristics by Kamlet and Taft and those by Pytela have been found to be excellently applicable to evaluation of influence of medium on this reaction at all the temperature mentioned. However, these methods give different results with regard to the proton-donor effects of solvents on the reaction.

Abstract:
Human Cav1.3 (hCav1.3) is of great interest as a potential target for Parkinson’s disease. However, common medications like dihydropyridines (DHPs), a kind of classic calcium channel blocker, have poor selectivity to hCav1.3 in clinical treatment, mainly due to being implicated in cardiovascular side-effects mediated by human Cav1.2 (hCav1.2). Recently, pyrimidine-2,4,6-triones (PYTs) have received extensive attention as prominent selective inhibitors to hCav1.3. In this study, we describe the selectivity mechanism of PYTs for hCav1.2 and hCav1.3 based on molecular dynamic simulation methods. Our results reveal that the van der Waals (vdW) interaction was the most important force affecting selectivity. Moreover, the hydrophobic interaction was more conducive to the combination. The highly hydrophobic amino acid residues on hCav1.3, such as V162 (IR1), L303 (IR2), M481 (IR3), and F484 (IR3), provided the greatest contributions in the binding free energy. On the other hand, the substituents of a halogen-substituted aromatic ring, cycloalkyl and norbornyl on PYTs, which are pertinent to the steric hindrance of the compounds, played core roles in the selectivity and affinity for hCav1.3, whereas strong polar substituents needed to be avoided. The findings could provide valuable information for designing more effective and safe medicines for Parkinson’s disease.

The authors’ findings demonstrate how this assignment can be the gateway for discussions regarding social issues, how students perceive their identities tied to contemporary social issues, and how they make sense of these issues within multimodal compositions.Research limitations/implicationsThe findings from this research have implications for researching the effectiveness of digital media production analysis for students’ learning of social issues.Practical implicationsThe findings from this research have implications for exploring how digital media production analysis can be incorporated into social studies courses.Originality/valueAlthough the push for social studies teachers to provide spaces for students to demonstrate these capacities, few examples exist in the literature.

Abstract:
The aim of this work is to deal with a new integrable nonlinear equation of wave propagation, the combined of the Korteweg-de vries equation and the negative order Korteweg-de vries equation (combined KdV-nKdV) equation, which was more recently proposed by Wazwaz. Upon using wave reduction variable, it turns out that the reduced combined KdV-nKdV equation is alike the reduced (3+1)-dimensional Jimbo Miwa (JM) equation, the reduced (3+1)-dimensional Potential Yu-Toda-Sasa-Fukuyama (PYTSF) equation and the reduced (3 + 1)¬dimensional generalized shallow water (GSW) equation in the trav¬elling wave. In fact, the four transformed equations belong to the same class of ordinary differential equation. With the benefit of a well known general solutions for the reduced equation, we show that sub¬jects to some scaling and change of parameters, a variety of families of solutions are constructed for the combined KdV-nKdV equation which can be expressed in terms of rational functions, exponential functions and periodic solutions of trigonometric functions and hyperbolic func¬tions. In addition to that the equation admits solitary waves, and double periodic waves in terms of special functions such as Jacobian elliptic functions and Weierstrass elliptic functions.

John Lydgate’s interest in the visual arts is apparent both in his frequent references to painting and illumination and in those poems he composed to accompany paintings or other visual arts. The latter poems are more than simply narrative or descriptive; Lydgate shows a definite appreciation for the potential effectiveness of visual images. In poems such as “On The Image of Pity,” “The Dolerous Pyte of Crystes Passioun,” and “Cristes Passioun,” Lydgate increases or curtails the complexity of the poetic description and decoration, according to the purpose of the particular work of art. In a strictly meditative lyric, for example, he combines visual images and text to create a focus for meditation that impresses itself on the memory and surpasses the impact of either medium on its own.

Najpierw słowo o lekcji ekonomiki przeżycia, jakiej pół wieku temu udzielił mi człowiek doświadczony. Pisząc o doświadczeniu, mam na myśli udział w konspiracji w latach 1939–1942, aresztowanie przez Gestapo, utratę zębów, pobyt w Auschwitz, Dachau i Sachsenhausen ze wszystkimi tego konsekwencjami. Mówił tak: Skoro pytasz o ratowanie ludzi, to pamiętaj, że można było za to dostać kulę albo znaleźć się w obozie. Podobnie ze szmuglem rąbanki. Z tym że schabowego chciał zjeść każdy, a ratować Żyda – raczej nie. To sprawa delikatna, bo na początku jest groźba śmierci i strach. Sprawa decyzji. Należy rozważyć okoliczność jej podjęcia. I tyle. Mając to w pamięci, nie będę dociekał, domniemywał i interpretował. Przedstawiam notatki z trwających ponad dziesięć lat rozmów z Władysławem Bartoszewskim. Mówił tak: …Zostałem pracownikiem Przychodni nr 1, która mieściła się na parterze niewielkiego domu przy ulicy Hozjusza, obok kościoła św. Stanisława Kostki. W kilkupokojowym mieszkaniu lekarka dr Ochnicz-Czerniewska i pielęgniarka, siostra Maria, przyjmowały ubogich, chorych, rannych żołnierzy, wszystkich, komu potrzebna była pomoc medyczna. Porada kosztowała 1 zł. Pełniłem funkcje intendenta, księgowego, gońca i woźnego. Obie panie, znacznie ode mnie starsze, traktowały mnie, osiemnastolatka, z wielką życzliwością i nie bez matczynego rozczulenia. Uposażenie było skromne. Mogłem za nie kupić nie więcej niż trzy kilogramy tłuszczu, ale czułem, że robię coś sensownego, a to bardzo dużo. No i od 1 maja 1940 r. miałem legitymację Polskiego Czerwonego Krzyża, wystawioną w języku polskim i niemieckim, z fotografią, pieczątką i podpisami zarządu – honorowaną w czasie policyjnych kontroli ulicznych. […] Wygarnięto mnie 19 września o świcie, przed godziną policyjną. Matka obudziła mnie, zaniepokojona dużą liczbą Niemców na ulicy. Uważałem, że mama niepotrzebnie panikuje. Po chwili do mieszkania wtargnęli panowie w żelaznych melonikach, tak wtedy mówiło się na hełmy, i nie zwracając uwagi na matkę, wrzasnęli w moim kierunku: Aufstehen! Mitkommen! Wstałem. Matka kazała mi wziąć jesionkę, choć było ciepło. Na podwórzu stali sąsiedzi, z naszego domu wyprowadzono chyba ze trzydziestu. Pod eskortą doszliśmy do placu Wilsona, gdzie stały ciężarówki SS. Tam sprawdzili nam dokumenty. Pracownikom elektrowni, gazowni i wodociągów kazano iść precz, czyli do domów, reszta na budy. Jechaliśmy ulicami Warszawy. Przechodnie idący do pracy z lękiem patrzyli na konwój, niektórzy odwracali głowy. Ciężarówki wjechały na teren koszar SS Reiterregiment Warschau. Zostaliśmy osadzeni w hali maneżu. Mówiąc dokładniej, kazano nam położyć się na zalegających podłogę maneżu suchych końskich odchodach. W hali było ponad tysiąc Polaków, pilnowanych przez dwóch podoficerów niemieckiej Służby Bezpieczeństwa (SD). Jeden z nich ustawił na stoliku ręczny karabin maszynowy i co jakiś czas puszczał serię nad naszymi głowami. Po jakimś czasie pozwolili nam usiąść, dali nawet kubły z wodą. Minęło kilkanaście godzin. Ustawiono nas w kolejkach do stolików, przy których siedzieli oficerowie i umundurowane maszynistki. Rozpoczęło się dokładne sprawdzanie dokumentów. Okazało się jednak, że Polski Czerwony Krzyż albo z niewiedzy – bo na pewno nie ze złej woli – albo z powodu zmieniających się przepisów nie zadbał o to, żeby na legitymacjach były dodatkowe pieczęcie niemieckie, tak zwane wrony albo gapy. W oczach oficera dokument bez niemieckiego orła nie miał żadnej wartości ...

Reactions between Sn(E′Ph)n (E′ = S or Se; n = 2 or 4) and the bis(pyridine) dichalcogenides 2,2′-(C5H4NE)2 (E = Se or Te), abbreviated py2E2, have been studied using multinuclear (77Se, 119Sn, 125Te) magnetic resonance. In this way the occurrence of the pyridine-2-chalcogenate complexes Sn(E′Ph)4−x(Epy)x (E′ = S or Se; E = Se, x = 1–4; E = Te, x = 1 or 2) has been demonstrated. The pattern of 119Sn NMR chemical shifts for Sn(E′Ph)4−x(Sepy)x (E′ = S or Se, x = 0–4) is consistent with bidentate bonding for the pySe− ligand when x = 1 and 2. The pyTe− ligand is probably bidentate also in all four complexes containing this ligand. As part of the NMR analysis, 77Se and (or) 125Te NMR data were obtained for py2Te2 and for the new mixed dichalcogenides PhE′ER (E′ = S, Se, or Te; E ≠ E′ = Se or Te; R = 2-py or Ph), which were produced in the systems Ph2E′2:R2E2. The complex Sn(SPh)2(Sepy)2 (1) was isolated pure and its structure determined by the single crystal X-diffraction technique. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n, with unit cell dimensions a = 9.7929(9) Å, b = 22.340(2) Å, c = 11.368(1) Å, β = 108.803(7) °, V = 2354.3(4) Å3, dcalc = 1.837 g cm−3 and Z = 4. Refinement by full-matrix least squares on F2 gave agreement factors R1 = 0.0425 and wR2 = 0.0882 for 2823 independent reflections with F0 ≥ 4σ(F0) and 258 variables. The structure confirms that the PySe− ligand behaves in a chelating manner. The molecule Sn(SPh)2(2-Se-C5H4N-N,Se)2 has a distorted octahedral structure with the PhS− ligands in cis positions and the two Se donor atoms in trans positions. The Sn—Se, Sn—S, and Sn—N distances are 2.6291(8) and 2.6358(8) Å, 2.475(2) and 2.464(2) Å, and 2.325(5) and 2.333(5) Å. The bite angles N-Sn-Se of the chelating ligands are 65.9(1)° and 65.8(1)°. En route to 1, the yellow crystalline compound Sn(SPh)1 85(2-Se-C5H4N)2 15 (2) was isolated. This was shown by 119Sn NMR spectroscopy to contain both Sn(2-Se-C5H4N)2(SPh)2 and Sn(2-Se-C5H4N)3(SPh). The crystal and molecular structure of 2 was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Crystal data: monoclinic, space group P21/n, a = 9.795(2) Å, b = 22.355(4) Å, c = 11.362(2) Å, β = 108.87(3)°, V = 2354.2(8) Å3, dcalc = 1.837 g cm−3, dobs = 1.87(5) g cm−3Z = 4, R1 = 0.0306, wR2 = 0.0651 for 2756 data (F0 ≥ 4σ(F0)) and 258 parameters. Crystallographic evidence for the presence of co-crystallized Sn(2-Se-C5H4N)3(SPh) occurs only in a minor lengthening of one of the two Sn—S bonds, Sn—S(1) (compared with expectation for 1), and an excess of electron density at S(1) when the data are modelled as Sn(2-Se-C5H4N)2(SPh)2. These effects are attributed to a crystallographic disorder of SPh and η1-{2-Se-C5H4N} at the S(1)Ph site, involving isostructural Sn(η2-{2-Se-C5H4N})2({η1-{2-Se-C5H4N})(SPh) and Sn(η2-{2-Se-C5H4N})2(SPh)2. Es el factor más importante en el desarrollo de gastritis atrófica crónica, úlcera péptica, linfoma MALT y adenocarcinoma. Se estima que la mitad de la población mundial está infectada con esta bacteria. La baja en calidad de vida y el costo económico causados por la infección por H. pylori son importantes. Existen varios métodos para su diagnóstico, pero algunos son invasivos, de alto costo o ambos. Objetivo: Comparar una prueba serológica de bajo costo basada en la técnica de ELISA para detección de IgG, usando la prueba de urea en aliento (PYtest) como método de referencia. Métodos: Se calculó el área bajo la curva ROC, sensibilidad, especificidad y valores predictivos. Se utilizaron 45 muestras de suero para validar la prueba de ELISA, mientras que para su evaluación se usaron otras 185 muestras de suero. Resultados: El punto de corte para discriminar entre positivos y negativos para la infección por H. pylori fue de 0.75 en la razón de densidad óptica entre los sueros de las muestras y el control positivo. A mayor valor de la razón, más probabilidad de ser positivo para la infección. Usando este criterio, la prueba tuvo una sensibilidad del 91.4 % y una especificidad del 93.7 %. Todos los valores diagnósticos mejoran al considerar una zona gris.Conclusiones: En la población estudiada, la prueba serológica se comporta de forma equivalente a la prueba de urea en aliento. Tiene la ventaja de que es más asequible a la población general por su bajo costo. La prueba podría ser usada en investigación clínica a gran escala.

Abstract Cisplatin is one of the most widely used chemotherapeutic agents in the treatment of different tumors but has high toxicity and side effects. Therefore, the synthesis of new chemotherapeutic agents is necessary, so that they are effective in the treatment of cancer while avoiding such toxicity. In this study, we have synthesized and characterized a palladium(II) complex, [PdCl2(µ-PyTT)2]Cl2·4H2O (PdPyTT), with 2-(2-pyridyl)imine-N-(2-thiazolin-2-yl)thiazolidine (PyTT) as a ligand; besides, its cytotoxicity and pro-apoptotic capacity was tested in human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cell line. Similar to cisplatin, PdPyTT produced a time- and dose-dependent decrease in cell viability. Additionally, the palladium complex increased both the proportion of cells with apoptotic morphology and the activation of caspase-3 and -9. PdPyTT, like cisplatin, also increased intracellular ROS production and DNA oxidative damage. Therefore, our findings demonstrated the promising application of palladium(II) complexes as novel anti-leukemic agents.
