Abstract:
To apply the term ‘magical’ to modern economic thought is to suggest that there remains within it an unassimilated and unexamined residue of irrational thought. Further, it is to hold that this remnant persists despite the discipline’s century long attempt to “submit the abstract laws of theoretical political economy or ‘pure’ economics to experimental and quantitative verification, and thus to the extent possible to constitute pure economy as a science in the narrow sense of the term” (Frisch, 1926: 1, our translation). The specific instance of irrationality to which we refer is perfectly visible but systematically overlooked because it exists in economics’ most basic assumptions: not only the assumptions about the causal mechanisms that determine human action, but even more in what is increasingly acknowledged to be the theoretical Achilles heel of economics, the concept of the market itself.

Abstract:
The principal aim of this paper is to explore the possibility of applying van Fraassen’s constructive empiricism to the contemporary debate on the methodology of economics. The authors argue that constructive empiricism supplies a novel and challenging framework which takes this debate beyond relativism and rhetoric on the one hand and beyond instrumentalism and realism on the other. In particular, by developing the distinction between pure and applied economics and by locating economic explanation in the latter, constructive empiricism offers a challenging solution to the perennial question of the realism of assumptions debate, changes the methodological focal point of pure economics onto the issue of empirical adequacy.

Abstract:
Samuelson's statement about Marx being a minor post-Ricardian from the viewpoint of pure economic theory leaves one perplexed. Is theoretical welfare economics a part of pure economic theory? This paper shows that theoretical welfare economics is the foundation of the theory of economic policy and intervention. Marx also sets forth a theory of intervention based on economic arguments. Therefore, Marx should be studied within the broader scope of theoretical welfare economics. Moreover, Marx's system contains not only analytical devices but also important value judgments and the theory of welfare economics aims to study the interrelations between value judgments and economic interventions. Methodological contradictions are shown in, and removed from, the theory of welfare economics in order to show the framework of Marx's entire system. The system as a whole is far beyond the realm of Ricardian economics, for it can be consistent and scientific although it contains value judgments. Samuelson's narrow approach and fuzziness in the methodological foundations of welfare economics hindered an appreciation of the full value of Marx's approach.

Abstract:
Abstract Should pure economic loss be compensated in China? If so, to what extent? Both questions are left unsolved in the established literature. We contribute to the existing literature by showing that the Chinese courts have developed a relatively conservative attitude towards the compensation of pure economic loss and that the arguments adopted by the courts to deny recovery are neither fair nor reasonable. Using the law and economics analysis, we have recourse to four complementary solutions. First, pure economic loss cases involving socially relevant losses should be compensated. Second, when social losses are not involved, pure economic loss should also be compensated if the third parties are willing to pay or have paid for protection against such a loss. Third, to relieve the excessive pressure imposed by the compensation for such loss, the concepts of causation and the duty of the victim to mitigate damage need to be further clarified in Chinese laws. Fourth, when determining the amount of compensation for pure economic loss, we should carefully balance the trade-off among a variety of factors, including the extent to which the damage could have been foreseen, the nature of the loss, the blameworthiness of the tortfeasor, the size of the plaintiff class, the public policy toward professional standards, the victim’s private loss, the social loss, the courts’ capacities to calculate the loss, and the third parties’ willingness to pay for protection against the loss.

Abstract:
Abstract Advancements in forest nursery management practices are directly tied to the value of the seeds used. When seed value is low and seeds are plentiful (as with wild seeds), old nursery practices that produce 5 plantable seedlings for 10 pure live seeds sown may be economically acceptable. However, with genetically improved seeds having a present value of 2 to 10 cents per seed, better nursery practices must be employed to provide optimum seed utilization. At some nurseries that produce 25 million seedlings and with seed costs of 0.5 cents per pure live seed, increasing nurseryseed efficiency by 10% could result in saving more than $20,000 annually. Also, if increasing nursery seed efficiency results in planting an additional 3,500 acres with improved seedlings, the increase in present value of future volume gains could easily amount to $90,000 peryear. To achieve the goal of producing 8 to 9 seedlings for every 10 pure live seeds sown, forest nurseries must have adequate funding to maintain the best personnel and equipment. South. J. Appl. The paper is devoted to the problems of power in the institutional economic theory. The approaches to the analysis of the power phenomenon in various economic conceptions are considered. The underdevelopment of the problem of power in modern pure economics is emphasized. The methodological narrowness of the transactional approach to the power problems analysis is shown. The arguments for the necessity of including the problem of power into the subject of the economic analysis are formulated.

Abstract:
The law governing the recovery of negligently inflicted pure economic losses is complex and confusing. This article focuses on pure economic losses caused by negligently performed financial services, and considers whether a "law and economics" approach provides a superior framework for analysing the desirability of imposing negligence liability than that provided by traditional legal analysis. The article first discusses the law regarding negligently performed financial services and critiques the legal reasoning used to justify restricted liability. The author then introduces the law and economics approach to negligence liability. The special considerations which apply when a loss is purely economic and caused by a carelessly performed financial service are then analysed. Finally, a rule of discovery based on the economic analysis is presented, and its application is discussed with respect to some of the leading cases. The author concludes that the economic approach provides a powerful set of tools capable of explaining the major decisions in this area in terms of economic efficiency and wealth maximisation. It provides a clearer understanding of the factors that determine what the appropriate restrictions are, and is thus more convincing for determining liability than traditional legal analysis.

Abstract The article analyzes the problem of the justification of public intervention with regard to drug consumption. It assumes, following Arrow, the impossibility of deriving a social choice in this field on pure individualistic assumptions and considers the merit good concept as a tentative to cope with this gap in the reasoning. From this starting point, the work is especially focused on the problems that arise from the regulation of the market for drugs.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic interactions between five pure Islamic banks of Pakistan and economic growth by using Panel ARDL method over the period of 2006-2016. The study elaborates strong confirmation and advocates the significant positive long-run relationship with economic growth. However, in short-run, each bank has individual significant positive relationship with economic growth in its individual capacity. The findings of this study are encouraging and signify a considerable contribution to recognize how pure Islamic banks activities translated into economic performance of the country. Although prudential regulations of State Bank of Pakistan are quite sound and their legislative structure and policy framing is also equally good but they are required to enhance the number of pure Islamic banks in the country for offering multiple options to clientele in order to promote Islamic economic activities in the country to make Pakistan more prosperous.

Abstract:
The arguments advanced in this paper raise some questions to do with the character of conventional economic theorising, its metaphysical underpinnings and its relationship to ‘real world’ activities. At the heart of what is termed Cartesian Economics is a conception of science which stresses the criterial status of mathematics in the formulation of scientific theories. This is embodied in the methodology of ‘inductive axiomatics’ by which theoretically pure types are connected to ‘real world’ events through successive relaxation of theoretical axioms. However, it is argued here that the mathematical character of Ecomomics is a metaphysical stipulation not a discovery and raises again the question of Economic’s empirical reference.

Abstract:
This study examines the change in labor productivity in Vietnam by means of a Fisher index decomposition and attribution analysis. The results can be summarized as follows. First, the aggregate labor productivity is decomposed into pure labor productivity and structural change from 2007 to 2019. All of the aggregate labor productivity, pure labor productivity, structural change, and interaction terms have increased by 69.83%, 36.74%, 24.20%, and 8.89%, respectively. Second, the percentage change in labor productivity is attributed to 20 sub-industries by pure labor productivity and structural change. The sum of the multi-period attribution of pure labor productivity and structural change shows that the manufacturing industry positively dominates (15.84%) and plays a key role in economic development. The positive pure labor productivity and structural change in the manufacturing industry imply that the structural bonus hypothesis does hold in the industry. The findings also indicate that pure labor productivity, especially in the service industry, should be improved to sustain economic growth.

Abstract:
Methods. The scientific results presented in the paper were obtained through the application of such general scientific research methods as: abstraction – used to establish the essence of the concept of «pure public good»; induction and deduction – employed in the formation of criteria for identifying economic goods; grouping – utilized in creating an improved classification of economic goods; generalization and specification – applied in distinguishing between pure and mixed public goods. Results. The study led to conclusions regarding the fact that traditional notions, shaped by primitive economism with the market as a self-sufficient and independent sphere separate from the functioning of other components of social organization, cannot explain the existence of such types of goods that society needs irrespective of the presence of effective demand. This necessitates a gradual departure from the neoclassical paradigm of economic research. It has been revealed that earlier scientific inquiries into the study of the phenomenon of public goods did not address the question of its essence but relied solely on signs. Therefore, the problem of identifying deep interconnections that determine public goods and complement previous interpretations of its nature becomes relevant. The category of «pure public good» has been defined, and the reasons for its existence have been demonstrated. Criteria for classifying a good as a publicpurpose commodity have been identified, and an improved classification of economic goods has been provided. The essential differences between pure and mixed types of private and public goods have been discussed. Novelty lies in providing an original definition for the category of «pure public good», which, unlike existing definitions, emphasizes the direct reasons for the existence of the phenomenon of public goods. Criteria for the classification of economic goods have been identified. Practical value lies in establishing the essence of the concept of «pure public goods», as well as identifying additional criteria, allowing for a more precise classification of economic goods with a lower probability of misclassification. This serves as a foundation for implementing more effective government policies regarding the functioning of the public sector and its financing directions.

I summarise Kaldor’s “stylised facts” approach to economics through the lens of his 1966 inaugural lecture at Cambridge, “Causes of the Slow Rate of Economic Growth of the United Kingdom”. I then defend this approach as a way of preventing economics from ossifying into pure formalism, fielding objections stemming from the Lucas critique, the advancement of econometrics, and the argument that stylised facts must depend on some prior theory. Finally, I argue that modern economics could benefit not only from his “stylised fact” approach, but also from his speculative boldness and substantive contributions to economic theory.

The roots that have affected the move of the HET to the periphery of the mainstream research preferences are analyzed. Based on a review of the current situation in the field of HET studies, the author shows that the field is gradually moving from the realm of the “pure” economics to converge with other humanities. The results of the survey of undergraduate and graduate students of the leading Russian universities confirm this trend. Saving HET in the economics curriculum requires deepening its integration with other social sciences.

Abstract:
Recent decades have witnessed an upsurge in multiple alternative approaches to unraveling major economic problems, together with the mainstream economic theory, which in this study has been considered an indicator of economic crisis. In this study, we attribute institutional stasis, as well as methodological heterogeneity of its two constituent sections, micro- and macroeconomics, to the primary drawbacks of neoclassical economic theory. Overcoming the crisis of economic science correlates with the creation of a general economic theory on the principles of “pure science,” with elucidated functions of various socioeconomic disciplines. If “pure economic theory” intends to form an intellectual layout of the economic system, then the “realistic sciences,” also including modern macroeconomics in this study, are tools for analyzing specific socioeconomic phenomena and processes. As people with consciousness and interests act in the society, this study postulates the existence of a certain zone of ambiguity, which cannot be entirely covered.

Our study aimed at analyzing yield and competitiveness as well as the economic indicators of spring cereals in pure or mixed sowings in integrated or organic crop rotations over nine years. A field experiment including pure sowings of oats, spring barley, or spring triticale and their two-component SCMs, each in two systems, organic and integrated crop rotation, was carried out in the Mountainous Experimental Station in Czyrna, Poland, in the years 2011–2019. On average, cereals in the pure sowings and mixtures yielded 18% lower in the organic rotations compared with the integrated ones. However, SCMs yielded higher than the pure sowings, and displayed a higher leaf area index and land equivalent ratio. The average gross margin without subsidies was almost two times higher in the organic crop rotations than in the integrated ones, which was influenced mainly by the cultivation of barley in pure sowing. Summing up, the cultivation of SCMs in the mountainous areas of southern Poland is advised because of both productive and economic factors.

Abstract:
This paper analyzes George J. Stigler’s influential contributions to economic ideas, specifically on industrial structures, the functioning of markets, the causes and effects of public regulation, the economics of information, and on the development of economic thought. Stigler’s most influential contribution to economic thought came in his work on information theory. Treating information as a valuable commodity, he explained why prices differ for identical goods. From his work, many other theories have been built to explain economic behavior. A considerable number of works on decision making under uncertainty could not have progressed without an understanding of the role of information. His swing of the pendulum in economic regulation constitutes a great turnabout. He started research, known as public choice, which assumes that government policy makers are driven by self-interest rather than pure concern for the public’s welfare. His views have now become those of the mainstream.

Abstract:
Cropland abandonment is driven by various mechanisms and is best viewed from multiple perspectives to suggest targeted policy changes which may change the status quo of abandonment. Here, we systematically analyze the characteristics of abandonment and its driving mechanisms by different farming households (pure, part-time, and non-farm) in three topographic regions of the Poyang Lake region using a binary logistic regression model. Results show that: (1) The overall abandonment probability in the Poyang Lake region is largest for non-farm households, followed by part-time households and pure households. In the mountainous region, abandonment is largest for non-farm households, followed by pure households and part-time households. Both the hilly and plain regions show the largest abandonment probability for pure households, followed by part-time households, and non-farm households. (2) The low agricultural economic benefits and the uneconomical investments of time in plots are the main abandonment determinants for pure households. Economic efficiency, both the time invested in plots and economic efficiency, are key abandonment determinants for pure households in the mountainous and plain regions, respectively. (3) Labor shortage and plots which are time-consuming and unfavorable to cultivation are the main abandonment determinants for part-time households, with different factors in different topographic regions. (4) For non-farm households, many factors can influence the occurrence of abandonment. Non-farm households in the mountainous and hilly regions are more influenced by non-farm work and the number of farming workers, respectively; in addition, the inconvenience of using agricultural machinery has a significant influence.

Abstract:
In both English and Dutch, the adjective “pure/puur” has developed subjectified meanings, denoting speaker involvement rather than lexical unmixedness, as in the reinforcing “pure madness/pure waanzin”. “Pure/puur” can also express focusing discourse-structuring functions (“That’s pure luck/Da’s puur geluk”) and submodifier-of-classifier uses (“a pure economic measure/een puur economische maatregel”), structuring local discourse along precise subclassifications. This synchronic comparative study aims at describing these uses and at finetuning the analytical apparatus on which current accounts are based. Specific research questions are: what patterns do “pure/puur” engage in and what are their lexicosyntactic properties? What parameters explain distributional similarities? And how do these findings fit in with hypotheses about the unidirectionality of subjectification and the accompanying leftward movement in the NP?

Abstract:
The current paper investigates the English foreign formulas in the hybrid economic texts to maintain the economic flavour by means of the collaborative translation .This paper tries to extend the horizon of interest in the collaborative translation through which translators can carry the major informational weight in the hybrid economic texts. Due to the space limitations of the paper, it is far better to lay great focus only on the foreign formulas that have acquired pure economic meanings. Since neologisms of English economic texts develop continually, the paper tends to adopt the collaborative translation. Thus, three professors of economics are consulted regarding the economic-based meanings to render the formulas collaboratively and in a non-traditional way. The study also verified that through the collaborative translation, translators can convey the essence of the source economic text into the target one .

Abstract:
A Classical theoretical model of temporary disequilibrium in a pure cash monetary system is formulated, in which each capitalist aims to maximize accumulation in her/his own sector, and prices and allocations are determined by the Cantillon rule. The dynamics generated by this economy are those of a sequence of temporary disequilibria, which are shown to be locally and globally unstable. Thus, government intervention is justified to avoid an economic crisis. The paper concludes by recommending an extension of the model considering alternative monetary systems.

Abstract:
The importance of international trade to the Chinese economy has been growing since the formal approval of the open-door policy at the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in 1978. However, trade expansion in China faces three constraints. First, there is the theoretical problem that orthodox ideology makes it illegitimate for a socialist country to have a large foreign trade sector. Secondly, there is the institutional problem that the Soviet-type foreign trade mechanism, characterized by a state monopoly of foreign trade, a centralized foreign trade plan, and insulation of domestic from foreign prices, is incapable of handling trade expansion in an efficient manner. Thirdly, there is the economic problem that the lack of competitiveness of domestic goods in the international market limits the country's export and thus import capacity. While the new Chinese leaders are making immense efforts to remove these constraints, this article will focus only on the first. The anti-trade attitude of Communist China is the combined result of China's historical heritage and Marxist ideology. The long history of self-sufficiency in “feudal” China meant that trade was never an imperative economic need. When contact with the west increased in the 19th century, international trade was associated with an influx of opium, an outflow of silver, and a series of unequal treaties. Such an unhappy, early experience of contact with the west has left China sensitive to any increase in international trade.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper deals with problems economists face in formulating a pure economic theory of justice. It is shown that constitutional economics as an approach giving opportunity to endogenize equity in an economic calculus, is only of limited use. It is criticized furthermore that economists neglect the basic problern of universalistic versus local justice. They have not contributed much to the problems of (equitable) implementation and enforcement of norms of justice either. Yet some applications cover the full range of social relations (altruistic preferences, faimess of contracts, political fairness, intergenerational equity), and Iead to an interdisciplinary design of research where the findings of other disciplines are integrated in economic research and methodological advantages of economic theory contribute to noneconomic disciplines

Abstract:
In light of the common view of Walras’ contribution to economic theory, Hicks is credited with the introduction of a method of dynamic economics that is based upon the temporary equilibrium concept and the prevalence of intertemporal uncertainty. However, a close reading or Walras’ Elements of Pure Economics results in a picture of Walras’notions closely related to the Hicksian view. In effect, Walras may be regarded as a Hicksian avant la lettre.
