Abstract:
The study aims to draw the attention and awareness among the global research and scientific community towards the research journal publishing industry, which more or less is working as a pilfer and has monopolized the journal publishing industry to suit their commercial interests. On one hand the global research and scientific community continues to strive harder to come up with better research findings with the sole purpose to enhance the ease of living in all walks of life by disseminating the same among the end users free of cost, while on the other hand, the big research journal publishing houses have hijacked the industry by turning it into a money minting machine. Researchers are fleeced of their hard earned money by the publishers in the name of Article Processing Charges (APCs) which run anything from USD 1000 to USD 6000 and beyond per publication. Libraries associated with academic and research institutions find it difficult to subscribe journals for their user, given the ever escalating subscription costs. Onus also lies with all the stakeholders includes, government, researchers, academicians and the end users as well, who can’t watch all this happening helplessly from a distance and not putting in any effort to overcome this problem.

Abstract:
Abstract Launched in 1999, at a time of radical change for the publishing industry, Persephone Books has become a successful independent publisher of neglected female authors mainly from the 20th-century inter-war period. Publishing being an industry primarily shaped by the differential distribution of symbolic and economic capital (Bourdieu, ‘The Market for Symbolic Goods’, in The Rules of Art, Polity Press, 1996, p. 9), competing principles of cultural legitimacy within an increasingly commercial climate clarify the position of modern publishing at the intersection of culture and commerce (Bourdieu, The Field of Cultural Production, Columbia University Press, 1993, p. 27). This article explores how Persephone Books’ understated assertion of publishing’s ‘middle ground’ and commitment to the historically reviled ‘middlebrow’ genre have reconciled the perennial tension between culture and commerce to create a thriving yet unintentional publishing brand.

Abstract:
The evolving IT technologies such as digital publishing content and AI publishing have a significant impact on the publishing industry. Therefore, it is important to consolidate research achievements in the field of publishing studies and provide direction to cope with these changes. In this study, we conducted topic modeling analysis on 459 academic papers published in Korean publishing studies, collecting titles, abstracts, and keywords. The analysis revealed four topics: technological advancement and environmental changes, reflections on publishing acceptance, utilization of internal capabilities and assessments in the publishing industry, and education in the publishing field. Prior to 2010, three topics emerged: initial digital transformation, changes in the industry environment, and responses to publishing acceptance changes. After 2010, four topics emerged: digital transformation, changes in publishing acceptance and response, education in the publishing field, and the current status of the publishing industry. The research results shed light on the significant topics addressed in Korean publishing studies and suggest the need for research topics that provide more practical insights for the publishing industry.

Abstract:
The “American comic book industry” is not American, its true product is not comic books, and it may not even be an industry. This article uses a geospatial map of comic book and graphic novel publishers active in the US market as well as sales estimates derived from both the direct market of specialty comic book retailers and trade book stores to question inherited “mental maps” of comic book publishing, such as the divide between “mainstream” and “alternative”/“independent” publishing. Adopting a relational approach, it suggests that a sociology of comics publishing – and of the cultural industries more generally – must be cautious of taking on board un-sociological concepts like “industry.”
