Full textThis dissertation examines voluntary earnings disclosures issued by French-listed firms. Empirical studies carried out in this research shed the light on voluntary disclosures' determinants and their effects on information asymmetry and stock market liquidity. Firstly, firms are more likely to make voluntary disclosures when foreign institutional investors hold shares in their capital. These investors ensure good minority protection in concentrated capital structures. The signalling hypothesis provides as well insights for managers' disclosure decision. Voluntary earnings disclosures are likely to reduce financial analysts and investors uncertainty. Secondly, even studies show that voluntary earnings disclosures are informative. Quaterly earnings announcements are likely to increase stock market liquidity and to reduce information asymmetry. Thirdly, managers use several disclosure policies depending on firm objectives

Full textAfter lou bouquet prouvencaou (1823) and various political pamphlets, the first major provencal periodicals were l'almanach de provence and lou bouil-abaisso, the first weekly. Le gay saber witnessed the birth of the felibrige and its severance from the "troubaire" movement. The latter published lou rabaiaire and lou cassaire between 1858 and 1864. The writers from marseilles joined the felibrige late ans reluctanctly. After polemics in lou tron de l'er and lou prouvencau, a not unfrienly arrangement intervened between the felibres and the troubaires. Yet the absence of general agreement between the two groups prevented the provencal press from being a successful venture. In marseilles, la sartan got help from many felibres but stood aloof from the felibrige. La sartan dealt with national and local politics and had to cope with the competi tion of the more conservatoire la vihado. The felibrige's weeklies and monthlies were generally short-lived while its almanachs were not. They were mainly literary journals except for part of the roman catholic press. L'armana prouvencau was the most glorious success. Lou brusc disappeared for want of public support from the felibrige. L'aioli refused to discuss national political issues which reduced the impact of its federalist opinions

Full textOnline Social Networks (OSN) are full of personal information such as gender, age, relationship status. The popularity and growth of OSN have rendered their platforms vulnerable to malicious activities and increased user privacy concerns. The privacy settings available in OSN do not prevent users from attribute inference attacks where an attacker seeks to illegitimately obtain their personal attributes (such as the gender attribute) from publicly available information. Disclosure of personal information can have serious outcomes such as personal spam, bullying, profile cloning for malicious activities, or sexual harassment. Existing inference techniques are either based on the target user behavior analysis through their liked pages and group memberships or based on the target user friend list. However, in real cases, the amount of available information to an attacker is small since users have realized the vulnerability of standard attribute inference attacks and concealed their generated information. To increase awareness of OSN users about threats to their privacy, in this thesis, we introduce a new class of attribute inference attacks against OSN users. We show the feasibility of these attacks from a very limited amount of data. They are applicable even when users hide all their profile information and their own comments. Our proposed methodology is to analyze Facebook picture metadata, namely (i) alt-text generated by Facebook to describe picture contents, and (ii) commenters’ words and emojis preferences while commenting underneath the picture, to infer sensitive attributes of the picture owner. We show how to launch these inference attacks on any Facebook user by i) handling online newly discovered vocabulary using a retrofitting process to enrich a core vocabulary that was built during offline training and ii) computing several embeddings for textual units (e.g., word, emoji), each one depending on a specific attribute value. Finally, we introduce ProPic, a protection mechanism that selects comments to be hidden in a computationally efficient way while minimizing utility loss according to a semantic measure. The proposed mechanism can help end-users to check their vulnerability to inference attacks and suggests comments to be hidden in order to mitigate the attacks. We have determined the success of the attacks and the protection mechanism by experiments on real data

Full textThis thesis turns on reserve-engineering of documents "recurrent and rich in typography" which is based on typographical tags to be identified directly from document images. Our purpose is to conceive a recognition system for logical structures that has to fit the problems brought by these documents complexity and variability. An original hybrid (structural and probabilistic) approach is proposed which combines a bayesian network classifier and a probabilistic automata that are integrated into a tree hierarchical representation of logical structure. For each part of the model, we used supervised learning that includes a new method using genetic programming for bayesian networks learning. This approach has been applied to tables of contents in periodical documents and has provided interesting results that open up different perspectives and especially for developing the interactivity aspect between the recognition system components

Full textObjectives: To conduct a systematic review of reports of pharmacy student research programs to describe publication and presentations resulting from the research. Methods: To be eligible for the systematic review, studies must have described student research programs in which students’ were required to collect, analyze, report or present findings and be reported in English. Candidate studies were screened and data extracted using standardized forms by two investigators independently with the final list identified by consensus. The primary outcome variables were extramural posters/presentations and publications. Data were summarized in tables. Results: A total of 6112 studies were screened and 14 studies were identified that described student research meeting inclusion criteria; two reports were from outside the United States. Two-thirds were reports of required projects and a third were elective projects. Required research projects were conducted on a wide variety of topics including clinical, practice, laboratory, public health, education and other topics. Elective research was focused on clinical practice, and laboratory topics. Components of the research process were not uniformly described. The terminal project requirement was usually a written report (57%) or a poster (29%). One program required a presentation. More than half (64%) of the student research programs reported that students presented extramural posters and half (57%) reported that publications resulted from student research. Conclusions: About half of the student research programs described in the literature indicated that student research resulted in extramural posters or presentations.
