Abstract:
This article seeks to understand the positions of three Rio de Janeiro journals, Careta, Fon-Fon and O Malho, in terms of a woman’s role in the concept of the “modern family” during the first half of the twentieth century, whether as a daughter, wife, or mother. Based on the concept of modern patriarchy, we seek to understand the new forms of patriarchy in republican Brazil and how these affected women’s behavior, their everyday lives in the family sphere and in social and power dynamics in private and public spaces, during this period of accelerated change. Based on this analysis, we consider how the press reported to its readers on marriages and separations and how it presented female desire through divorce.

Abstract:
TITLEThe Spanish brotherhoods during the Modern Age from a social point of view. Three decades of historiographic progressABSTRACTNo associative phenomenon was more extended during the Ancient Regime in Spain than the brotherhoods. As a consequence, its social dimension deserves the historical analysis it has received these last decades, focusing on the essential aspects of their nature: the group solidarity and the mutual support they demonstrated, the public worship and the numerous festivities that these associations promoted. All these, from an unquestionable eagerness for autonomy that was difficult to maintain. Although there is a lack of complete, cohesive works, nowadays the bibliography on confraternities and brotherhoods can be described as abundant and at the same time scattered. This social reality and the intervention from the royal and ecclesiastical authority on the brotherhood sphere, is analyzed during this particular article, evidencing the advances in knowledge as well as the aspects that deserve a greater research activity.KEY WORDSBrotherhood, Confraternity, Religiousness, Festivity, Mutuality, Church, Regalism.

Abstract:
Laicism and Reform in Chile, s. XIX: The Taforó Case and the Church-State Relationship, 1878-1886AbstractThis article will seek to study the evolution and development of the relations between the Church and the State in Chile, serving as an historical scenario the dispute for the provision of the archiepiscopal See of Santiago, sparkedby the death of Archbishop Rafael Valentin Valdivieso in 1878. Also, methodologically speaking, this research proposes the abandonment of the study approach focused on the binomial-decay- progress, which has been used inthe past hundred years to explain the development of church-state relations. This proposal implies approaching a new perspective based on the idea that Latin American societies, throughout the nineteenth century, underwent aprocess of gradual transformation in the political and cultural sphere, evolving from a traditional society to a modern society. Thus, secularization did not imply the disappearance of the Church from the public scene, but involved a change that requires a new conception of public affairs this time identifiedwith a broader definition of the concept beyond the mere state sphere: the civil society.Key words: Secularization, Reform, Church and State, Civil Society.

Abstract:
Abstract: The modern concept of the individual is justified in the public sphere. The term publicity first appeared in the 18th century to describe the private manner of thinking of those who, following the general enlightenment custom, were used to reading books. These people were kept regularly informed by journals; created reading associations and frequented shared leisure areas in cafés, salons and parks where new ideas coming from afar, originated in the great urban centers with century-old universities, were discussed. Kant opposes this congruency between the public and private uses of reason to a specific use of reason, particular to those who fulfill functions and obey superior orders, as is the case of civil servants. Contrary to the normal usage of the word today, the German philosopher recognizes in the term private use that which the scholar can do with reason in a certain public office or function confided to him. Throughout his work, Kant establishes the principle of publicity as a legitimate anchor for his moral, political and juridical philosophy.

Abstract:
After more than thirty years of gender research, the history of women’s passions for women is still to a large extent unwritten in Sweden. Gender research has been so uninterested in this topic that it has even been a part of marginalizing it. This article aims to counter this tendency by shedding light on the work of the pioneer Frida Stéenhoff (1865-1945). Love between women was an extremely controversial issue in the suffrage movement, where activist and playwright Stéenhoff had her platform. In the private sphere the female couples within the movement were accepted, but no one mentioned same-sex-love in public. No one but Stéenhoff who, according to many contemporary intellectuals both within and outside of the women’s movement, simply was too radical. My investigation into her work, and into her negotiations with prevailing conventions and competing discourses, includes three plays, one article and a short story with lesbian motifs, alongside with mail conversations between herself and Ellen Key. The first of these texts, The modern Lesbos (Det moderna Lesbos), was written in 1899, but was never approved for publishing. It was so radical that even Ellen Key, who otherwise would be seen as Sweden’s most daring writer in sexual political issues, was consternated. The next play, Love’s rival (Kärlekens rival, 1912), however, was both printed and staged. This time Stéenhoff handled the controversial topic in a way that the audience could agree with. Her last lesbian play, called Prey of the flames (Lågornas rov, 1928), was never completed. In many ways it tells the same story as the previous ones, but with some changes of perspective. Frida Stéenhoff broke with the norm of writing about openly same-sex love in a condescending way. To be depicted in a nuanced way, same-sex love in her days had to be disguised, so that the average reader could not see it.

GLOBAL SKILLS IN PUBLIC ACCOUNTANCY: A VISION FOR THE INTERNATIONALIZATION OF THE CURRICULUM. Cecilia Garzón Daza. San Mateo University FoundationCatholic University of Colombia. The article aims for identifying the global skills in public accountancy facing the construction of a vision for the internationalization of the curriculum ft to the dynamics of the globalización. Through a descriptive qualitative methodologic approach the global skills are addressed from the perspective of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Then, focus on the internationalization of the curriculum that contributes to the performance of the public accountant in the globalized world. CONSTRUCTION OF THOUGHT IN PUBLIC POLICIES AND ARTISTIC PROCESSES WITH CHILDHOODS: REFLECTIONS FROM THE ARTISTIC INITIATION PROGRAM – PIÁ. Joice Rodrigues de Lima, UDESC, Brasil. I propose here to articulate refections about the structuring of public policies in the feld of arts and childhoods, considering some actions carried out in PIÁ - Artistic Initiation Program, between 2008 and 2018, specifcally. This program has been taking place for more than 14 years, uninterruptedly, in the four macro-regions of the city of São Paulo - SP, with management of the Secretariat of Culture in partnership with Education. Its practices are with and for children and adolescents between 5 and 14 years old and artists educators of the languages of music, theater, literature, visual arts and dance, with the present participation of family members, managers and communities of the territories where the experiences are established. In this context, among many relevant aspects for this refection, it is highlighted, among its structuring axes, a look at the Childhoods that consider them as people of rights, purposers and artistic creators, as the proposition of creation processes that respect the temporalities of childhood and that value the horizontality, dialogue, respect and reception in the relations between educators and children, participation and defagration of artistic processes. Considering that these factors reinforce a confrontation with hegemonic powers, there is a need to think about ways to build public policies that establish actions committed to guaranteeing practices in art and education that prioritize the protagonism and participation of children. In this sense, the creation of public policies that support such participatory axes may be a path towards more respectful processes in relation to the participation of children and adolescents in society, in the public sphere, and through artistic experiences. In the construction of this thought, I will use as a foundation mainly documents that relate PIÁ’s own experience in its practices and attempts to enable the approval of a law that would make it an efective public policy in the city, as well as the contributions of researchers such as Anete Abramowicz, Maria Walburga dos Santos and Vera M. Ferrão Candau, in the feld of Latin American Sociology of Childhood and Manfred Liebel and the approach to the concept of participation and child protagonism. UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT PERSPECTIVES: A systematic literature review through Bibliometrix. Andrea Mosquera-Guerrero. Edward Enrique Escobar-Quiñonez. The university is a key actor in the creation of knowledge that must respond to the demands of diferent interest groups that asked pertinent responses and in line with global trends; so, its management has become, over time, a complex activity. Based on the above, this work is presented, which aims to publicize trends in university management through the review of the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The records obtained were analyzed using Graph theory and tools such as Bibliometrix. The results allowed identifying four perspectives: a. technology transfer and university entrepreneurship; b. educational model; c. Change management in academic institutions and d. Interest groups. Through a network analysis, it was determined that the most relevant authors are Henry Etzkowitz, Mario Raposo and G.E. Zborovsky. For its part, the region with the highest production in the subject is the United Kingdom and it is pertinent to note that the research carried out allows us to appreciate that the subject is in the boom phase. Cecilia Garzón Daza- Alba Marcela Jaimes Reyes - Misael Tirado Acero.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Phd thesis is dedicated to the figure of the secretary as a political actor in Early Modern Italy. The case study is represented by four unknown private secretaries: Alberto Bissa (Piacenza, ca 1520-post 1594), Bartolomeo Zucchi (Monza, 1560-1630), Annibale Guasco (Alessandria, 1540-1619) and Bonifacio Vannozzi. (Pistoia, 1549-1621). By studying their correspondences, published in books of letters, the research reconstructs their biographies and focuses on the social relationship formed through the collaborative work of master and secretary. Printed letters, far from being only formal technical models, are studied as communication tools, that contribute to the birth of the public sphere.

In the Triennium 1796-1799 took place the short life of the Cisalpine Republic, one of the political units founded by Napoleon Bonaparte during the Italian Campaign. This work studies the theatrical culture and the performing aspects which characterized the Cisalpine Republic and particularly its capital, Milan, in that historical juncture. The thesis asserted here is about the use of performing practices as an instrument of popular education and spreading of the principles of the 1789 Revolution. This aim was pursued by both French authorities and Italian pro-Revolution patriots. This work tackles three main points: the architectural and urban changes which affected Milan during the Triennium, the theory and practice of theatre, the public celebrations. The cultural relations between Italy and France have been investigated with special attention. This study is based on some documents kept in archives and libraries of Milan and Paris, such as printed editions of theatrical plays, records of celebrations, correspondence and periodicals from the age of the Cisalpine Republic.

Abstract:
By combining research methods from the cultural history of the politic with a comparative perspective, my dissertation covers the celebrations of the Napoleonic era that took place between 1799 and 1814 in the Republic (later, Empire) of France, in the Republic (later, Kingdom) of Italy, and in the Kingdom of Spain. My comparative perspective aims to show the existence of a model of Napoleonic celebration that was fairly uniform across the three geographical contexts I studied, especially in its basic principles, fundamental concepts and values conveyed. My study centres on the concepts of sovereignty, legitimacy and sacrality, and aims to shed light on their interplay and their significance in the context of Napoleonic-era civic festivities, especially in terms of the forms of symbolic, visual and discursive representation that were used. My analysis of these forms of representation will allow the reader to better understand not only the manifestations of Napoleonic power, but also its ideological underpinnings, characteristics, and evolution over time.

TARTARI, MARIA. "The role of artistic and cultural practices in uneven urban development processes: a reasoning on a few different forms that power relationships between the agents of urban renewal and the local communities can take in processes mediated by cultural and artistic practices within the public sphere and the urban context." Doctoral thesis, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10808/28283.

Abstract:
The present research work is aimed at facing a debate that embraces the realms of sociology, geography and cultural studies. It builds upon the gathering of three distinct papers which common purpose is to investigate how art and cultural practices, operating through social phenomena, relate to wider systems of power in contemporary cities. Each of the three papers specifically focuses on a different form that power relationships between the agents of urban renewal and the local communities can take in processes mediated by cultural and artistic practices within the public sphere and the urban context. The conceptual framework underpinning the orientation of my research draws principally upon both the new urban sociology literature, along with the theories of Henri Lefebvre's right to the city, and the theories of some neo-Marxist thinkers, such as those of David Harvey, Peter Marcuse and Sharon Zukin. Developing from the theories based on these lines of thoughts, I here aim to analyze the debate about the art-led gentrification, reasoning about the role the creative class has played in the main long-established theories of gentrification, looking respectively at culture and capital as key drivers, and on the extent to which it is organically integrated in the gentrification processes. I also aim to contextualize the consequences of these processes in terms of social costs, dwelling on two case studies. In the first article, “Two versions of heterotopia: the role of art practices in participative urban renewal processes” I put forward a new conceptual frame, built on the comparison between two notions of heterotopia as theoretical alternatives for the reading of cities as social and participatory spaces, exploring the implications of the interaction of artistic practices with the urban space. Within this analysis, Foucault’s notion of heterotopia turns out to be potentially conducive to top-down planning processes and to gentrification, while Lefebvre’s notion is instead better suited to participatory practices as strategies of reactivation of the right to the city. In the second article, “Gentrification as space domestication. The High Line Art case”, I interpret the gentrification process as a strategy of public space domestication in the context of culture-driven urban regeneration. As a role model of this theoretical construction, I refer to a full-blown case of gentrification taking place in the area of West Chelsea in New York, focusing on its main public art project, the High Line Art, and on its specific involvement to art-driven space domestication processes. I critically question the responsibility artists have towards the environment’s identity and social bonds in which they operate once the art-led re-shaping of public space means turning it into a narratively orchestrated context of individualized consumerist entertainment. The last article finds its foundation in the gentrification without displacement debate: “The loss of place identity: when gentrification perpetuates cultural and economic misappropriation. The NoLo district case” analyses an Italian case of gentrification in its peculiar context. I here aim to assess how hegemonic models of culture-led urban development, with its commodification of public spaces and social amenities in terms of trade, meeting places and aesthetic landscape, can lead to a harmful change in social meanings at odds of local community’s identity and consistency.

Abstract:
The main objective of this thesis is to reveal unknown agencies and agents of Portuguese politics that daily constituted its public space during the modern period. Attending to different scales, between the square and the kingdom, we will seek to unveil through the daily life of the years of the Iberian Union and the Portuguese Restoration how politics was present in daily life and manifested in the streets of the main cities of the kingdom. The different circulating literatures, pamphlets, pamphlets, judgments, and social alterities, as well as the way different population groups responded to the political contexts considered, will be the elements to be considered in the treatment of the object. Revisiting part of the theory of public space and the historiography of the Old Regime and with special attention to the daily life of Lisbon during this period, the approaches, analyzes and demonstrations that follow will culminate in the identification of an intense political and cultural activity, whose diversity of agents, interests and opinions is one of its most obvious and denied characteristics.

Abstract:
The law and literature movement is less active in Roman studies than in modern national languages despite the importance of ancient Rome for subsequent traditions. This chapter hopes to spur further research by surveying a range of representative topics individually familiar to Latinists, but whose interconnections become clearer under the “law and literature” rubric. These are: discursive media; censorship; law and theatricality; educative fictions; typology, exemplarity and moral reasoning; transformations in the public sphere. The Romans perceived law’s interaction with literature in terms that range from homology, to contestation, to intimate discomfort. Both do things with stories, both serve as normative vehicles, and fiction cannot rigorously disambiguate between these discourses. The Romans, however, were acutely aware of how formal differences affected pragmatic outcomes. A strong articulation of literature as ineffective over against the law’s power emerged during the Augustan period and was formative for modern conceptualisations.

Abstract:
This book offers the first scholarly treatment of the history of public eating in London in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The quotidian nature of taking a meal in public during the working day or evening should not be allowed to obscure the significance of the restaurant (defined broadly, to encompass not merely the prestigious West End restaurant, but also the modest refreshment room, and even the street cart) as a critical component in the creation of modern metropolitan culture. The story of the London restaurant between the 1840s and the First World War serves as an exemplary site for mapping the expansion of commercial leisure, the increasing significance of the service sector, the introduction of technology, the democratization of the public sphere, changing gender roles, and the impact of immigration. The book incorporates what I term ‘gastro-cosmopolitanism’ to highlight the existence of an international, heterogeneous, and even hybrid, culture in London in this period that requires us to think, not merely beyond the nation, but beyond empire. The restaurant also had an important role in contemporary debates about public health and the (sometimes conflicting, but no less often complementary) prerogatives of commerce, moral improvement, and liberal governance. This book considers the restaurant as a business and a place of employment, as well as an important site for the emergence of new forms of metropolitan experience and identity. While focused on London, it illustrates the complex ways in which cultural and commercial forces were intertwined in modern Britain, and demonstrates the rewards of writing histories which recognize the interplay between broad, global forces and highly localized spaces.

Abstract:
Abstract Tracing the history of spanking from our earliest records, the trail of spankings’ influence on society and individuals is explored. The book covers the slow transition from the whip and rod to the hand, the first questioning of spankings’ utility, and the inception of spanking stigma. Stories of religion, school paddling, and the development of child protection in the United States highlight historical factors on the edges of spanking and show their connections to our modern conundrum—why do we hit people smaller than us who we love so much? To understand the real meaning of spanking, the book explores the private lives of family and the public sphere of our social lives. Spanking has been a common and accepted discipline for hundreds of years. Filled with stories of families, researchers, and community organizers, the book helps us see varied angles of family spanking we have avoided for far too long. The research outcomes on spanking are causal and clear, and the data have been repeated in many studies. Brain research, parent child synchrony, touch, trauma, and communication all lead us to new understandings of spanking’s impact on adults and children alike. Maybe most important of all is the question never asked before: Is spanking a child good for the parent? Book group questions and prompts for organizations and professionals provide a framework for conversation and dialogue. A rich appendix includes laws on physical discipline from each state, laws on school paddling, and corporal punishment laws around the world.

Abstract:
The movement in southern cities is the subject of chapter 5. It explores black worker-consumer alliances (built on “linked fate”) in sit-in demonstrations and their utility in helping black southerners claim middle-class citizenship during the civil rights movement. From Washington, D.C., to Charlotte to Nashville, African Americans organized widely publicized sit-ins and picket lines to force the desegregation of public accommodations and democratization of the transitional nature of customer-business interactions. But African Americans had other goals. What began as protests aimed at restructuring the physical space of the public sphere and procuring the right to experience the indulgences of customer service often grew into organized endeavors to dismantle the formidable barriers to black economic emancipation. These endeavors maintained a broad understanding of the black community’s shared interests and involved challenging segregation and discrimination in the marketplace on behalf of black customers and workers.

Abstract:
Repeated press discussion of the upturning of traditional civilisation through science underlies the chapter’s treatment of science and the press explored through three sections. The first summarises an historical scholarship which has gone beyond old categories of popularisation to show how the press constructed science in the public sphere, principally before the Second World War. Secondly, the chapter explores the coverage of ‘applied science’ by the press during that period. It deals with the contributions of such journalists covering ‘modern life’ as Vera Brittan and Storm Jameson as well as celebration of local industrial research laboratories on the one hand and warnings of the danger of new weapons on the other. Finally, there is a treatment of science in the press and its ‘medicalisation’ during the post Second-World-war period. Increasingly, contrasting enthusiasms and terrors have been mapped and analysed by the literature that has grown out of the new scholarship in public engagement with science, and by the broader study of science, technology and society.

Abstract:
Digitalisation is gradually penetrating all spheres of society The rationale for this study is the unprecedented measures taken by the President and the Government of the Russian Federation to encourage the population to engage in physical education and sport in order to preserve and improve health and increase the life expectancy of Russians. Federal targeted programmes have made it possible to build and commission thousands of modern sports complexes. The study was primarily aimed at the elaboration and implementation of a technique of digital information and diagnostic support of mass health surveillance. The research methodology developed at our University contains three process phases: measurement, calculations, and appraisal. The implementation of these procedures allows both the individual trajectory of the complex development of each subject and the processing of unlimited amounts of information concerning normative test takers. At each stage, digital technologies are used to generate the database, to store it, to process the results obtained and to pass them on to other organisations upon demand, making the achievements of the methodology transparent and open. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that the methodology, by monitoring the dynamics of individual and collective achievements, handles information on all groups of the population in a prompt, reliable and valid manner and is used by us not only to modernise the process of physical education, but also to assess the health-promoting activities of any organisation. Digitisation originated from the Internet and BigData era, entails raising the level of evidence-based decision-making in physical education and sport to a new, modern level.
