Abstract:
More than simply a monograph about a literary journal, Lukyanin’s book features reminiscences of its former readers, authors, and editors. Already in its first decade of existence, Ural began to print works of renowned Russian writers and translated American and British prose alongside Urals-born authors. Its commercial success peaked in the 1970s, under V. Ocheretin as its editor-in-chief, with tens of thousands of local industrial workers subscribing to the journal for its crime mysteries and its popular satirical and humorous sections. In the early 1980s, the liberal Communist Lukianin started transformation of the journal’s agenda, while Urals remained the centre of the region’s literary life. The Urals underground writers began to appear in the journal in the late 1980s, although Ural shunned works that were too critical of the Soviet government, unlike its Moscow-based peers, who managed to attract huge numbers of new readers.

Abstract:
Shakespeare’s works have long been a place of cultural and political struggles, and continues to be so. Twenty-first century non-canonical fiction is appropriating Shakespeare for activist purposes. The present article will analyze this phenomenon, applying the concept of cultural capital, the theories of cultural materialism, intertextuality, and appropriation in relation to popular culture, in order to study how Shakespeare’s plays are being appropriated from more radically progressive positions, and resituated in alternative contexts. Among the plethora of Shakespearean adaptations of the last decades, non-canonical appropriations in particular offer brand new interpretations of previously assumed ideas about Shakespeare’s works, popularizing the playwright in unprecedented ambits and culturally diverse social spaces, while giving voice to the marginalized. Thus, through entertainment, non-canonical fiction products such as V for Vendetta and Sons of Anarchy recycle the Shakespearean legacy from a critical point of view, while using it as a political weapon for cultural activism, helping to make people aware of social inequalities and to inspire them to adopt a critical stance towards them, as free and equal citizens.

Abstract:
AbstractAlthough the color violet is now used in a wide variety of everyday products, ranging from toys to clothing to cars, and although it now appears commonly in artistic works, violet was rarely used in fine art before the early 1860s. The color violet only became an integral part of modern culture and life with the rise of the French Impressionists. I investigated the use of violet in over 130,000 artworks prior to 1863 and found that it appeared in about .06 percent of the paintings. Violet was used substantially more frequently in Impressionist works, and remains popular in fine art and in popular culture today. I examine several explanations for the explosion of the use of violet in the art world during the Impressionist era, and conclude that a cognitive-perceptual explanation, based on the heightened sensitivity of the Impressionists to short wavelengths, may account for it. The findings fit with a new understanding about evolutionary changes in planetary light and human adaptation to light.

The goal of this article consists in analysis of the novels of A.V. Ivanov &ldquo;Community&rdquo; and &ldquo;Tobol&rdquo; from the perspective of using the images of the Apocalypse. Examples of referring to apocalyptic symbolism in the prose A. V. Ivanov are demonstrated. Multiple examples of interpretation of Biblical symbolism of the Apocalypse are featured in popular culture; A. V. Ivanov uses the experience of such interpretations with regard to the genre of horror novel. The article considers the examples of realization of apocalyptic motifs, and their role in the works of A. V. Ivanov, namely motif of the end of the world and related cataclysms (including the phenomena of monsters and demons of the End of Time), spiritual apocalypse, and rise of the dead. The scientific novelty consists in the analysis of the aforementioned imagery as technique of horror literature. It is proven that Ivanov refers to the images of the Apocalypse through the prism of popular culture, as well as resorts to the original strategy of interpretation of the materials, where the images of the End of Time serve as the language of consciousness of the heroes as the people of their era. The conclusion is made that apocalyptic symbolism, on the one hand manifests as the marker of horror in the genre of popular literature, while on the other hand is used by the for articulation of ethical criticism of modernity.

The goal of the research was to determine whether artworks said to be created by famous artists were appreciated more than the same artworks attributed to nonfamous artists. Analysis indicated that the works attributed to famous artists were more appreciated than the identical works attributed to nonfamous artists: The works were liked more and judged more interesting and beautiful (all p values < .001). Participants ( N = 309), all art nonexperts, also were willing to pay more to see the works if described as created by famous artists ( p < .001); importantly, however, no differences were found in ratings of the works’ comprehensibility. This pattern of results suggests that judgmental variations were attributable to participants’ peripheral processing of factors not intrinsic to the work itself. Dual process models of attitudes, popular in social psychology, were invoked to provide a framework for understanding the findings.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the well-known serial edition “Soldatskaya Biblioteka” [Soldiers’ Library] of V.A. Berezovsky, the commission agent of the Ministry of Defence, private publisher and bookseller of military literature. Since 1888, most of the works were published and republished under the title “Reading for Soldiers and People” and from 1894 to 1915 — “Soldiers’ Library”. The purpose of this large publishing project of V.A. Berezovsky was to promote intellectual and spiritual moral development and self-education of the lower military ranks. By 1915, twenty-five serial sets of “Soldiers’ library” — twenty stories in each — were published. Separate sets and works were repeatedly republished. The aim of the study is to show the noticeable role of cheap illustrated “military and moral” books in the acquisition of libraries for the lower ranks and company book collections of military educational institutions. The author collected the data about all serial sets and runs of “Soldiers’ Library” by 1915, its acquisition and distribution. The article presents the analysis of the authors and the content of the library, its presence in military and civil book collections.Commercial entrepreneurial spirit, common sense and taste of V. Berezovsky himself, the appropriate choice of authors and their works, low prices, design, accessibility and accuracy of the publications were of great importance in gaining the great popularity of the “Soldiers’ Library”. Its active advertising campaign, conducted through the official structures of the military and other Departments, as well as through the printed publications owned by V. Berezovsky, contributed to its promotion to soldiers-readers. Therefore, some of the works from the “Soldiers’ Library” were purposfully admitted for acquisition of book collections of lower schools, free folk libraries and reading rooms and were recommended for home reading for cadets of primary schools. The results of study demonstrate that the “Soldiers’ Library” was available in the catalogues of book collections for lower ranks, in company schools, in battalion, squadron, crew, battery and regimental educational teams of military units and military schools. The experience of edition of “Soldiers’ Library” was popular in the years of Soviet power: it was used in the series “Library of Red Army Soldier”, “Popular Scientific Library of Soldier” and “Bibliotechka of the ‘Sovetsky Voin’ magazine” [Library of the “Soviet Soldier” Magazine].

ABSTRACTComics have become a significant part of modern popular culture. This article examines the ways in which music is involved with comics, and develops methods for analysing musical moments in comic books. The output of the writer Alan Moore (b. 1953) is used as the domain for examining music and comics. This popular author's works are notable for their sophisticated use of music and their interaction with wider musical culture. Using case studies from the comic books V for Vendetta (1982–9), Watchmen (1986–7) and the second and third volumes of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2002–12), the article demonstrates that the comic can be a musically significant medium (even to the point of becoming a piece of virtual musical theatre), and argues that music in comics serves to encourage readers to engage in hermeneutic criticism of musical and musical-literary texts.

Abstract:
Background. From the second half of the XX century to the present time in the musical culture of the world we observe significant influence of jazz. New trends, styles, genres is appeared due to the interaction of jazz and academic music. Thus, at the beginning of the XX century such phenomenon of musical art rises as a synthesis of features of jazz and pop music. This process leads to the renewal of musical language, experimentation, the emergence of new styles and trends. All mentioned above are largely inherent in variety-jazz accordion art, which has a significant spread from the early XX century. The formation of the European accordion variety-jazz direction is connected, for the most part, with the genre orientation of the works of a certain region. In France it was a musette. In Germany there were virtuoso fantasies, variations on the themes of popular song and dance melodies, waltzes. In Italy – tarantella, samba, tango. “In the first decades of the XX century accordion began to be widely used in the USA. From beginning of popularization, it was emigrants from Italy”, notes M. Imkhanitskiy (2004: 304–305). In Ukraine, the stage of the emergence of variety-jazz style is associated with the assimilation of the European and American traditions of variety and jazz accordion art. The purpose of the article is to determine the main genre and style levels of the embodiment of variety-jazz style in the works of V. Vlasov. Presenting main material. The integration process of Ukrainian accordion art is significantly separated from the world performing movement. The variety of stylistic vectors (variety, jazz, pop-jazz) and the high level of professionalism of the performers significantly affect the current trends of variety-jazz direction. Victor Vlasov is one of the personalities who has a great influence on the modern process of development of variety-jazz direction in its national specifics. The introduction of professional technical-expressive and artistic components in his compositions is due to the author’s impeccable knowledge of the possibilities of accordion. The embodiment of jazz stylystics is achieved in V. Vlasov’s works by specific means: clear and pulsating metrorhythm, special melody and harmony, jazz phrasing, swinging, uniqueness of articulation. First, V. Vlasov uses rhythmic-factural models, typical of certain genres that were not previously involved in accordion practice. Secondly, he uses quasi-improvisations – the improvisational sections on a harmonious basis taked from main thematic material; third, imitations of the sound of an ensemble in different “timbre layers”, sonor effects in the form of various blows on parts of the instrument, on the floor, etc., mimicing the sound of percussion instruments. Fourth, V. Vlasov often uses swinging. Analyzing the compositional style of V. Vlasov, we find its characteristic features: at the level of the genre subsystem, the composer uses traditional genres of variety music; the level of the evolutionary subsystem is characterized by stylistic diversity (academic, avant-garde, electronic, variety-jazz trends); ethnic metasystem in the artist’s work is represented by the folklore basis of the works, the involvement of traditional genres of certain regions (“Vesnyanka”, “Kolyadka”, “Tarantella”, “Tango”, “Bossa Nova”); historical metasystem is manifested in the use of historically formed jazz styles (New Orleans’ jazz, bebop, swing, cool, etc.). The article considers the embodiment of variety-jazz style on the example of one of the parts of the V. Vlasov’s cycle “Variety-jazz compositions”, the piece “Basso ostinato”. The relevance of the study of this work is connected with its considerable popularity among performers of different countries, the active use of the work by participants in various competitions of accordionists. Using a simple compositional element filled with altered chords, the author creates a clear harmonious and formative grid as a jazz square. Synthesizing the academic form of musical art (Basso ostinato) with variety-jazz style, V. Vlasov created a pattern of his own compositional style. V. Vlasov’s works, in general, have a clear form, mostly there are complex three-part or variational compositions, but his variety-jazz style has its own specifics: &#9679; use of altered chord; &#9679; involvement of noise effects, specific accordion strokes and techniques; &#9679; quasi-improvisations based on the principles of jazz music. Conclusions. V. Vlasov’s works have their influence on the development of variety-jazz music today. He remains one of the first composers to integrate and develop at a high professional level variety-jazz direction in the domestic accordion art. The composer represents new (to accordion-art) jazz performing techniques, novelty of musical ideas and their textural and intonational embodiment. Manifestation of variety-jazz style of V. Vlasov is a set of personal means of expression. Thus, the artist’s works are characterized by the use of altered chords, the involvement of noise effects (“percussion”), specific accordion strokes and techniques; introduction of quasi-improvisations based on the principles of jazz music. V. Vlasov’s individual and stylistic searches determine the characteristic features of the author’s school as a stylistic phenomenon in the development of domestic and European accordion art. Stylistic orientation of V. Vlasov’s compositions – New Orleans jazz, swing, bee-bop, cool, progressive – presents a wide range of genres and styles.

Abstract:
The paper analyses the issue of a popular trend called ‘life outsourcing’ which affects the structure of personality in an individual. Basing on the works of L.S. Vygotsky and others, the author explores the methodology of the concept of cultural development as a process of formation of an embodied personality or non-organic body. He outlines the search for the approaches to the process of cultural development and for its descriptions in terms of personality construction and ‘soul organism’ which can be traced down in Vygotsky’s works. According to these works, cultural-historical psychology employed a concept of tool- and activity-based personality body, or soul organism. As it is argued in the paper, this concept is to a certain extent incomplete. What happens to the individual’s personality body in a situation of increasingly popular life outsourcing, i.e. when more and more basic functions and actions are transferred from the individual to various devices? Using artistic creativity as an example, the author explores the artist’s transition from working with natural materials to working with devices and focuses on the problem of the artist’s ‘smart body’ losing the feeling of texture and form. The issue is to be continued in the second paper.

Abstract:
The subject of the inquiry is the peculiarity of Ukrainian literary columnistics. The main problem of the paper was to find out the reasons for the flourishing of Ukrainian columnistics at the intersection of fiction and journalism, to outline the main range of its themes, motives, images as exemplified by V. Medvid’s publications. Only ever some theoretical aspects of author’s columns in national magazines were the object of research of Ukrainian scholars, without a thorough analysis of particular journalistic works, so a detailed description of the writer’s columnist output has determined the scientific novelty of the paper. The objective of the paper is a comprehensive study of the individual uniqueness of the content in author’s columns by V. Medvid against the backdrop of the development of national columnistics and journalism in the 1990s and 2000s. For this purpose, a cultural-historical method was used to determine the reasons for writing and the context of specific publications of the columnist, their place and role in the work of the writer and in the intellectual life of Ukrainian society; a philological method was used for the analysis of texts of these publications and a comparative method was used to determine the commonalities and differences in the materials of the author’s columns by V. Medvid and other Ukrainian writers of this period. The results of the study are: 1) Among various definitions of the author’s column for Ukrainian columnistics, the most acceptable is its understanding as a rubric, which contains works of different genres, but in a specific column — works of one genre and one style, as evidenced by the output by V. Medvid. In the rubrics “Literary Pages” and “Librarian-review” V. Medvid finds himself as a literary critic, publishing reviews of anthologies of modern literature in the former and short literary portraits of contemporaries in the latter. Publications in the columns “From the Heights and Lowlands” and “Light and Shadow” are descriptive, essayistic. 2) V. Medvid’s columnistics emerges as a synthesis of public attention to key social, moral and ethical problems, an unbiased author’s worldview and a unique parable style of a writer-publicist. 3) It is stated that publications with clear, mostly simplified, conclusions, as well as clear accents in the division into positive and negative, are popular with readers of magazines, so V. Medvid’s columnistics was not very successful in general. His writing requires of the readers a high intellectual level, intended for a narrow elite audience. The application of the paper lies in the possibility of using its results in works on journalistic genre, the history of Ukrainian journalism and literature of the XX–XXI centuries, in the study of V. Medvid’s work.

Bayesian methods have become increasingly popular in social sciences due to its flexibility in accommodating numerous models from different fields. The domain of item response theory is a good example of fruitful research, incorporating in the lasts years new developments and models, which are being estimated using the Bayesian approach. This is partly because of the availability of free software such as WinBUGS and R, which has permitted researchers to explore new possibilities. In this paper we outline the Bayesian inference for some IRT models. It is briefly explained how the Bayesian method works. The implementation of Bayesian estimation in conventional software is discussed and sets of codes for running the analyses are provided. All the applications are exemplified using simulated and real data sets.

Abstract:
The article examines the semantic and axiological foundations of «Fly, fly, cuckoo» – the most popular work of Chuvash song folklore. The purpose of the work is to establish the history of the song from the moment of the first recording and analyze its professional processing. The author practices a short generalized description of the most characteristic features of each artistic treatment. This approach allows to clearly feel the individual handwriting of each composer. The research results are based on comparison and generalization methods. The melody of this song inspired the Chuvash and Russian composers to create works of different genres: vocal, choral, instrumental. It is unique in terms of the number of adaptations: there are more than 30 of them – so often composers did not pay attention to any Chuvash song. The article discusses the most vivid and characteristic examples of processing the melody of a song. The author analyzes the works of S. M. Maksimov, A. G. Orlov-Shuzm, G. Khirbyu, A. Petrov, G. Anchikov, V. Bely and others. The inclusion in the educational process of such examples of folk art as the song «Fly, fly, cuckoo», and works created on this topic, contributes to an increase in the level of musical culture, the formation of respect for indigenous peoples and their traditions.

Abstract:
Recent sociological research has focused attention on formal instances of retrospective cultural consecration in the United States. In the fields of film, sport, and popular music, this has largely involved comparing the effects of various forms of cultural legitimacy on the odds of retrospective consecration. Such studies have used the three “competing” principles of cultural legitimacy identified by Bourdieu (1983)—specific, bourgeois, and popular—as predictors of consecration. Although Bourdieu (1983) refers to these as “competing” forms of cultural legitimacy, elsewhere he describes consecration as the collective product of “all the agents involved in the field of production.” Based on 3,234 popular music albums released from 2000 through 2007, we analyze factors associated with immediate, intermediate, and retrospective forms of consecration to explore the extent to which such forms of legitimacy compete and converge over time. Our findings suggest that rites of consecration can serve to reveal conflicts as well as build consensus regarding the reputations of artists and their works. The increasing consensus surrounding consecrated albums is particularly striking.

Abstract:
Fishery culture had a huge impact on the development of mankind and was reflected in all spheres of material and spiritual culture, as shown by the insightful works of fishing vocabulary of scientists of different generations. At the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries the popular names of fish are systematized in the southwestern dialect (I. Verhratsky); the Hutsul fishery nomenclature with description and drawings of realities is represented (V. Shukhevych); valuable material on fishing in Poltava region with detailed description of each instrument and technological features of fishing (V. Vasilenko) is collected; The Ukrainian vocabulary of fishing in Dobrudja (F. Vovk), the Lower Dnipro region (D. Yavornytsky) is reproduced. In the first half of the twentieth century On Fishery Terminology of the village Dufinka in Odesa Region (1928) by B. Yurkivsky was the exploration in the lexicological aspect. In the second half of the twentieth century the Ukrainian Black Sea fishing terms in their historical development were covered by O. Gorbach. During this period Dictionary of dialects of the Ukrainian dialects of the Odessa region by A. Moskalenko (1958), in which the regional and local fishery terms occupied a prominent place; a lexicographic work by A. Berlusius The vocabulary of the fishing of the Ukrainian dialects of the Lower Podnistrova (1959), which contains numerous set phrasal combinations in the speech of fishermen; a study Place of fishing vocabulary of the Middle Dnieper in the vocabulary of the Ukrainian language by G. Tarasenko (1961) were also published. The most extensive material is found in dissertation Fishery vocabulary in Ukrainian dialects of the Lower Dnieper (1993) by I. Lipkevich. The second half of the twentieth century saw such important scientific works as ones by V. Kolomiets from the ichthyological nomenclature, where historical-geographical data and linguistic considerations was used in a complex way; scientific works by E. Motuzenko, where lexical-semantic and historical-etymological aspects of the fishery terminology of the North-Western Black Sea region is analyzed; works by G. Khalimonenko, who thoroughly investigated borrowings from Turkic languages into the Ukrainian vocabulary of fishing. Besides the famous lexicographic heritage of Professor V. Chabanenko, his ethnographic works are very valuable, in which the scientist described in detail the structure and method of the use of some fishing gear in the lower reaches of the Dnieper, which allowed the researcher to immerse in the inner form of names.Analyzed scientific studies enable a further integrated approach to the study of both the history of the formation of fishing names and the history of the formation of their semantic structure.

Abstract:
Medieval literature has deeply shaped modern literature through many different channels. Sometimes entire works were translated or paraphrased into modern languages, sometimes medieval motifs, themes, figures, or concepts impacted modern texts. This article examines one remarkable example, Werner Bergengruen’s highly popular novella “Die drei Falken” (1928) the source of inspiration of which was loosely Boccaccio’s story told on Day V, no. 9 in his Decameron (ca. 1350). Throughout time, the falcon has regularly symbolized courtly love, nobility, and the desire for individual freedom. After a discussion of Boccaccio’s text and a selection of medieval examples where the same motive appears, this article examines how Bergengruen transformed the symbol of the falcon into an expression of human nobility and deeply felt desire for personal freedom.

Abstract:
Vasily Vereshchagin (1842–1904) was one of the most well-known Russian artists of the second half of the nineteenth-century and the beginning of the twentieth century. Strongly influenced by the popular French Neo-Classicist and Orientalist Jean-Léon Gérome, Vereshchagin's was constantly in pursuit of new subjects for his art. Instead of construing the east as a place of backwardness, lawlessness or barbarism, enlightened and tamed by Occidental rule, Vereshchagin's engagement with progress and humanism evolved in the course of his numerous expeditions and travels, shaping themes and images of human pathos, uncontrollable force and emotional extremes engendered by the war violence unfolding before his eyes. This article will trace Vereshchagin's life and works and their place in the development of the arts in the nineteenth century, when genre painting, the prevalent form of Orientalist art, gradually evolved into battle scenes. Vereshchagin selected the facts of human existence to transfer them to his drafts and studies as if he were attempting to discover the roots of cultural contradictions between the beauty and diversity of human creativity and the poverty, cruelty and barbarity of human life. His method of juxtaposing the traditional form of battle painting and the real tragedy of war whose victims had neither voice nor identity would challenge generals, tsars, governments and the orthodoxies of his time but would also bring him fame and respect.

Abstract:
After reviewing the basic concept and general strategies, we have examined a variety of examples of modeling and parameter extraction methods for RF MOSFET's. Modeling and parameter extraction techniques popular in III-V FET modeling were reviewed and recent efforts to model the RF MOSFET and extract the model parameters were examined in light of the differences between the MOSFET and the III-V FET. A very simple and accurate parameter extraction method studied in our laboratory for three-terminal modeling considering charge conservation is also introduced. Our works have two important implications. One is that the consideration for charge conservation is important not only for accurate device modeling and circuit simulation but even more for proper parameter extraction. Another is that one accurate large-signal I-V model is enough to be used for DC, low-frequency analog, as well as RF circuit simulation. Four-terminal modeling based on new equivalent circuits to address the high-frequency effects arising in a MOSFET is very complicated and not practical for CAD applications, even without considering the substrate coupling terms. As a temporary alternative, the macro-modeling approach is examined with various examples.

The article is devoted to two collections of works for children by F. M. Dostoevsky, compiled by his widow Anna Grigorievna: “A selection from the works of F. M. Dostoevsky for secondary school-age children (over 14 years of age),” edited by V. Ya. Stoyunin in 1887, and “Dostoevsky for school-age children,” published in 1897 under A. V. Kruglov’s editorship. Dostoevskaya’s collaboration with two professionals and experts in child psychology, Stoyunin and Kruglov, allowed her to overcome the failure of the 1883 volume “To Russian children” and consolidate the foundations of Dostoevsky’s “repertoire for children.” The article introduces new archival materials, which allow to reconstruct the history of the publication of these volumes, formulates the tasks Dostoevskaya assigned to them to disseminate her husband’s works, and describes their reception by pedagogical criticism and state institutions responsible for the regulation of children’s reading in Russia in the last two decades of the 19th century.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Professor of Leningrad State University, Honored Scientist A. V. Yarmolenko. The article contains a brief biography of A. V. Yarmolenko, a characteristic of the theoretical and practical heritage of her numerous works is given. It is shown the role of A. V. Yarmolenko in studies of children and adults with sensory, motor and speech disorders. Long-term research of deaf-blind people allowed Augusta Viktorovna to identify the stages of development of cognitive processes. In her works, it is shown that an in-depth analysis of the psychomotor functions of healthy and impaired children with a qualitative interpretation of the data obtained can be opposed to testing aimed only at the quantitative characteristics of individual mental functions. Dealing with the problems of multilingualism, Avgusta Viktorovna Yarmolenko for the first time identified the structural model of multilingualism, its variants, taking into account the function of language, its forms. The mastery of speech and the transformation of touch into a means of cognition, according to A. V. Yarmolenko, enables the deaf-blind to master the cultural wealth of the world. A comprehensive analysis of sensory, speech and psychomotor functions in deaf-blind people allowed her to trace how compensation for lost functions is carried out, and also to identify the role of the second signal system in the effectiveness of the formation of compensatory adaptations in children. The works of A. V. Yarmolenko were innovative and remain relevant today. The article shows the role of A. V. Yarmolenko in the research of theoretical, practical aspects in the psychology of impaired development, as well as the direction of her teaching. The main milestones in the scientific path of A. V. Yarmolenko, her formation as a scientist in a certain historical context are described. Attention is paid to show how her scientific worldview was formed — both as a result of the influence of certain scientists and her own practical experience of working with children (young violators of the law, deaf-blind children, etc.); it is shown how her ideas laid the foundation for Russian defectology and psychology of the deaf-blind.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the works of the Russian legal scholar of the second half of the XIX century P. V. Delarov, better known to his contemporaries as a collector of antiques. Since the late 1870s he wrote several essays covering the fundamental and applied topics and problems of legal science and practice. His works are poorly studied within the framework of legal disciplines of historical and philosophical-legal profiles, however represent particular interest for the history of establishment of legal thought in Russia. This particular pertains to the author&rsquo;s reference to the tasks on reforming legal science into psychology of law; renewing the theoretical-methodological principles and characteristics, which allowed the Russian legal scholar to resolve the fundamental contradictions in the area of cognition and interpretation of law, associated with idealistic or realistic arguments. The scientific novelty of this research lies in the following aspects: description and analysis of the legal views of P. V. Delarov, which were not been previously studied in the history of legal thought; substantiation of the conclusions that he formulated the first theoretically mature and developed psychological concept of law within the Russian legal literature; the concept of P. V. Delarov appeared much earlier than the psychological concept of L. I. Petra&#380;ycki;. Delarov&rsquo;s concept in its essence represented a variety of realistic theories that rely on the tendency of &ldquo;scientification&rdquo; of jurisprudence within the framework of natural-scientific worldview of the XIX century. This article also presents other generalizations and explanations of P. V. Delarov's legal views, which allow introducing significant clarifications into understanding the processes of the emergence of psychological approaches towards law in the Russian and Foreign legal literature.

Abstract:
Shakespeare, undoubtedly, has been one of the most important Western influences on Malayalam literature. His works have inspired themes of classical art forms like kathakali and popular art forms like kathaprasangam. A secular story telling art form of Kerala, kathaprasangam is a derivative of the classical art form, harikatha. It was widely used to create an interest in modern Malayalam literature and was often used as a vehicle of social, political propaganda. The story is told by a single narrator who masquerades as the characters, and also dons the mantle of an interpreter and a commentator. Thus, there is immense scope for the artist to rewrite, subvert and manipulate the story. The paper explores V. Sambasivan’s adaptation of Othello in kathaprasangam to bring out the transformation the text undergoes to suit the cultural context, the target audience and the time-frame of the performance. The text undergoes alteration at different levels—from English language to Malayalam, from verse to prose, from high culture to popular art. The paper aims at understanding how a story set in a different time and distant place converses with the essential local milieu through selective suppression, adaptation and appropriation.

Abstract:
Around 1900 the circus was not only an important and highly popular cultural phenomenon all over Europe, but also an inspiration to writers and artists at the onset of Modernism. As an intrinsically intermedial form with international performers, it can be seen as an expression of certain important characteristics of modern life like innovation, mobility, dynamics, speed and vigor. Its displays of color and excitement, of bodies in motion and often provocative gender relations were experienced by authors as a challenge to create new aesthetic forms. However, the circus does not only figure prominently in well-known works by Kafka and Thomas Mann and paintings by Degas, Macke or Leger, it is also thematized in texts by Scandinavian authors. When writers like Henrik Ibsen, Herman Bang, Ola Hansson and Johannes V. Jensen referred to the circus in their works, they represented it as an experience of modernity and addressed themes like alterity, mobility, voyeurism, new gender relations and ambivalent emotions. As a self-reflexive sign, the circus even served to represent the fragile status of art in modernity and thus made an important contribution to the development of Modernism.

The popular image of Japanese men, both in the United States and Japan, is that of “salaryman” who works such long hours that he has no time left for his children. The little empirical evidence available, however, suggests that Japanese men have familial involvement patterns not unlike those of men in the United States. In the study reported here, prepubertal children and adult males in Japan and the USA were observed together disproportionately more often during those times when men were not precluded (by work) from being with children. Further, during those periods children were more likely to be found in groups containing men rather than with women only. In both countries women continue to be the primary caregivers of children. However, previous research has shown that men in the USA, compared to men in other cultures, are not totally uninvolved; Japanese men are not either.

These works focus primarily on the connections and processes that take place in the world of Islam, in particular at the junction of the Islamic Christianity. Based on this, we can say that in our eyes a new scientific discipline is being created, which, on the model of existing religious disciplines (philosophy of religion, psychology of religion, sociology of religion and geography of religion), can be called the political science of religion.

Abstract:
<p>The current stage of culture development is usually defined as post-postmodern. Although this term is not well established and is interpreted differently, in any case it involves the overcoming of postmodernism. In Russian literature we should mention Victor Pelevin among the authors, whose works demonstrate the post-postmodernist tendencies most clearly. The evolution of his prose testifies that the postmodern worldview and the very mechanism of postmodern writing has become the subject of critical reflection in the late works of the writer. The novel by V. Pelevin "Empire V" (2006) is the material of the analysis in the article. The aim of the study is to reveal the nature and the forms of postmodernism reflection manifested in this work. During the analysis the authors established that Pelevin plays with a popular genre of mass culture - a novel about vampires, using it as a kind of metaphorical way to clarify the nature of postmodern literature, which appropriates, absorbs and exploits the forms, ideas and motives earlier developed in culture. Postmodernists, like vampires, borrow information from different sources and use "someone else's blood" for their own purposes. Combining the "languages" of mass and elite cultures, activating the intertextual links, Pelevin eventually pursues antipostomodernist goals: he reveals the totality of the simulativity, proves that mass culture is ready to absorb postmodernism, and turn it into an empty signifier. This can be defined as a kind of cultural reflection, as a form of the self-reflection and writer’s cognition on the state of modern culture.</p>

Abstract:
Human connection with nature is widely believed to be in decline even though empirical evidence is scarce on the magnitude and historical pattern of the change. Studying works of popular culture in English throughout the 20th century and later, we have documented a cultural shift away from nature that begins in the 1950s. Since then, references to nature have been decreasing steadily in fiction books, song lyrics, and film storylines, whereas references to the human-made environment have not. The observed temporal pattern is consistent with the explanatory role of increased virtual and indoors recreation options (e.g., television, video games) in the disconnect from nature, and it is inconsistent with a pure urbanization account. These findings are cause for concern, not only because they imply foregone physical and psychological benefits from engagement with nature, but also because cultural products are agents of socialization that can evoke curiosity, respect, and concern for the natural world.

Abstract:
Postmodern critiques problematise the import of social psychology into non-western contexts on epistemological and ideological grounds. Yet, British approaches to the discipline remain popular with critical social psychologists in South Africa. One such import product is discourse analysis, which, as a “postmodern” social psychology, seemingly resolves challenges of “intellectual colonialism” by endorsing a constructionist understanding of social psychological phenomena. However, by extending a conception of language into a discursive ontology enables only a partial social psychological understanding of the often insidious nature of experience and social conduct even when discourses change. What is required is an understanding of these aspects of social agency as also pre-reflexively and non-propositionally patterned, making necessary a conception of culture that works, so to speak, directly on the body. This remains impossible in a theoretical system that has to fall back on the notions of reflexivity and ideology in order to explain the social and political determination of experience and meaningful conduct.

Abstract:
The article examines the literary heritage of the Tomsk poet and fiction writer Valentin Vladimirovich Kuritsyn, the author of adventure novels, satirical works, and poems. Biographical information about Kuritsyn is very scarce. It is known that he was born in the city of Barnaul, Tomsk province on July 28, 1879, was educated at the Barnaul Mining School, then worked in private gold mines, due to health problems he moved to Tomsk for permanent residence, where he began to work in the management of the Siberian Iron roads. On January 18, 1911, he died of consumption at the age of just over 30. In Tomsk, Kuritsyn was published in local newspapers and magazines: “Sibirskii nablyudatel”, “Sibirskie otgoloski”, “Sibirskii Vestnik”, as well as in satirical magazines of the period of the First Russian Revolution. Fame and success brought him adventure novels, which he signed with the pseudonym “Ne-Krestovsky”. This pseudonym and the title of the first novel – “Tomskie trushchoby” – referred the reader to the famous novel “Peterburgskie trushchoby” by Vsevolod Krestovsky. But “Tomskie trushchoby” was not a parody or a continuation: it is an independent work that described the everyday life of the Tomsk criminal world, the life of swindlers, criminals, thieves, and fallen women. Kuritsyn’s novel was published in 1907–1908 in the newspaper “Sibirskie otgoloski”, and then was released as a separate book, the circulation of which was immediately sold out. After that, the same newspaper published novels in which all the same heroes acted: “Chelovek v maske” and “V pogone za millionami.” The novels of “Ne-Krestovsky” opened a new page in the history of Siberian literature. They represented a new kind of Siberian “newspaper novel” – criminal, adventure, adventurous, with elements of mysticism. These novels were extremely popular among the general public. At the same time, the novels were heavily criticized by leading Siberian writers and journalists. modern literary discourse allows one to take a fresh, unbiased look at the novels of Ne-Krestovsky, to open in them a connection with the world literary tradition of the adventure novel, with great success deployed on local Siberian material. Kuritsyn was not appreciated by his contemporaries, but after a century it becomes clear that he can rightfully be attributed to the large-scale literary figures of Siberia, worthy of research attention.

Abstract:
Introduction. The controversial nature of most of the aspects related to the content and essence of people’s control, the assessment of its historical role and significance in the system of state administration of the Soviet period, the effectiveness of legal regulation and the political problems of its implementation still arouses a genuine interest of the scientific community in the study of this phenomenon. Theoretical analysis. People’s control in the USSR was both a developed ideological and political concept and a real political and legal institution. The founder of the concept of people’s control was V. I. Lenin, who, in his numerous works, described a clear justification of its relevance in the conditions of socialist democracy. Empirical analysis. It was revealed that the process of development of the institution of people’s control in Soviet Russia was largely influenced by the worldview of the country’s top leadership, which demonstrated polymorphism of opinions on the role and significance of popular control in the system of socialist governance. There are three stages of formation and functioning of the system of people’s control in Soviet Russia, which had their organizational and institutional features. Results. The study of the ideological, political and historical and legal prerequisites for formation of popular control led to the conclusion that popular control was a specific institution characteristic of the socialist type of government. It passed a rather difficult historical path: from workers’ control in the first years of Soviet power to a very complex organizational and institutional system of state and public control in the last decades of the existence of the USSR.

Abstract:
During the American sixties, the resurgent interest in Wilhelm Reich and the widespread impact of Marcuse's Eros and Civilisation encouraged the idea of coupling psychoanalysis and Marxism. Reich's works reminded radicals once again of the integral connection between political revolution and sexual freedom, while Marcuse's critique, a bold attempt of the mid-fifties to read Freud as a revolutionary utopian, suggested the desirability of a marriage between Marx and Freud, a marriage that would have seemed unnatural to many of the Old Left generation. Certainly, too, the writings of Norman O. Brown and Paul Goodman gave credence to the idea that sex, psychology, and radical politics were necessarily interrelated.

Abstract:
There are many popular treatments of Zen/Chan and Daoist themes related to working with horses; however, these works tend to be fairly superficial treatments of philosophical traditions. For deeper consideration of the philosophy of horse sports such as dressage, I explore themes and imagery in the Daodejing, such as noncontention, flow, humility, and mysticism that may help riders to unpack and enhance the experience of working with a nonhuman teammate. Comparative work, such as with Dewey’s theory of aesthetic experience and the psychology of “flow,” further helps to conceptualize the relationship between athleticism and artistic value in formal equestrian sports.

Abstract:
Despite traditionally being characterised as a melancholy thinker with a propensity to dwell on existential anxiety, sin and despair, scholarly interest in the place of love in Søren Kierkegaard’s ethical thought is currently gaining significant traction. In particular, Kierkegaard’s Works of Love (1847) has increasingly come under the academic spotlight as a text with potentially rich and previously underappreciated insights for Christian ethics. This article aims to contribute to this ongoing illumination, by highlighting the moral psychology and theological anthropology of Kierkegaard’s Christian lover in discourses II–V of Works of Love’s second series. In doing this, I aim to put forward an overarching ethical framework which can be seen to structure these moral deliberations.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to Aleksander Petrovich Nechaev (1870-1948), an outstanding Russian psychologist and teacher of the first half of the 20th century. In this work, Nechaev is presented as a historian of psychology. The historical-psychological views and works of the scientist in three directions are considered: analysis of historical and literary works in which ideas related to historical psychology are presented; analysis of works covering the state of psychology at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries and dedicated to Nechaev’s contemporaries in psychology; analysis of special historical-psychological and historical-philosophical works. The first part presents the historical-literary and literary-critical works of Nechaev: «On Krylov's attitude to science» (1895) and «Poetry of A.N. Maikov. A critical sketch» (1898). The Russian psychologist analyzes the views of I.A. Krylov on scientists and scientific activities, expressed in artistic metaphors and reflecting public and popular ideas about science. Considering the work of Maikov, Nechaev shows that poetry can perform psychological tasks: on the one hand, it affects the emotional state of the reader and the development of his personality, on the other hand, it expresses the inner characteristics of the poet himself, poetry is necessary for him to satisfy his own needs and intentions. Even though these works do not directly relate to the problems of history of psychology, they show the interest of Nechaev to historical-scientific research, and can also be attributed to the field of historical psychology: through artistic creativity and literature, the author studies the images of a scientist and a poet and their psychological traits specific to the 19th century.

Abstract:
&nbsp; This article reviews the polemic of the author with a number of well-known psychologists who consider L. S. Vygotsky a humanities scholar, and that the book &ldquo;Psychology of Art&rdquo; introduces psychologists to the humanities. The author clarifies his position, trying to show that in his methodological projects L. S. Vygotsky adheres to the natural scientific approach; however, in some works he actually does think as a humanist. The author also casts doubt on Vygotsky's concept of art, demonstrating that the offered mechanisms of aesthetic response and interpretation of literary works are problematic or unsatisfactory. In this regard, analysis is conducted on the position of V. Sobkin, which differs significantly from the views of L. S. Vygotsky. The author offers the original interpretation of art, which implies the three aspect: sociocultural that analyzes artistic communication; related to the philosophy of subjectivity (life from the perspective of an artist, viewer, or reader); and analysis of artistic reality, which includes consideration of the literary language and events. The author elucidates the corresponding concepts and problems that appear in such art task. For better understanding of the proposed ideas, the author reviews the examples from the &ldquo;Psychology of Art&rdquo; by L. S. Vygotsky, and cites a case from the own works. The discrepancy with L. S. Vygotsky he views as an motive to continue his research and the need for their critical reflection. &nbsp;

Abstract:
The article considers the role of philosophical concepts and philosophical ideas in the psychological works of C. Jung, owing to which he achieved the results. He was able to deeply and thoroughly comprehend the studied psychological phenomenon: the unconscious and its components. This led him to conclusions far beyond the boundaries of psychology, in the sphere of philosophy and cultural studies. Using the principle of determinism, Jung discovered and analyzed psychological causal relationships. He showed that the interaction of culture and nature in man provides him with a movement towards gaining his integrity. At the same time, Jung identified and considered options for the interaction of nature and culture in man. Through the dialectics of subject and object, Jung defined his position in understanding of unconscious and attitude to the concept of Freud. Jung explained the process of interaction between consciousness and the unconscious using energetic approach which was popular in philosophy in the beginning of 20 century. This particular approach allows the scientist to conclude that every psychic phenomenon is a manifestation of human vitality and energy. Energy itself is neither destructive nor creative. Quality gives it value, giving direction to human life, as energy takes its course. Jung formulated the theme of human life and destiny, and examined it through the prism of the influence of the unconscious. Possession of the dialectical style of thinking allowed him to form his research methodology. He shows that, along with socialization, individualization is important for the individual, ensuring individuality and integrity.

Abstract:
In the 1950s, the Iraqi sociologist ʿAli al-Wardi attempted to work through, for a popular Iraqi readership, various theories of unconscious forces that shape human conduct, from Sufi conceptions of the hidden dimensions of the mind, to Freudian theories of the id and the super-ego, to insights into extrasensory psychic forces emerging from what al-Wardi considered to be the cutting-edge science of parapsychology. While earlier Iraqi intellectuals had engaged with Freudian terms in order to appropriate a reasoning ego worthy of sovereignty, al-Wardi was more interested in appropriating an unconscious, albeit one not entirely aligned with the Freudian understanding. According to al-Wardi, that understanding was too focused on the negative effects of the unconscious and neglected the miraculous or supernatural dimensions of the psyche. This project took on explicitly political and anticolonial implications in some of his works, which envisioned an Islamic revolutionary tradition that repeatedly disrupted the abstract reason of the state by drawing on the irrational but politically effective powers at the core of the human.

Abstract:
Wechsler's intelligence test-batteries are still popular yet suffer from psychometric shortcomings and lack a certain content improvement and enlargement. In this paper a new approach will be presented that suits traditional Wechsler-testing. The approach in question is the Adaptive Intelligence Diagnosticum (AID 2; Kubinger & Wurst, 2000). Due to it's “branched testing” design, AID 2 works out to be more economical and in this regard also offers other advantages, such as parallel tests and short forms. AID 2 offers a method of survey for identifying specific developmental disorders or learning disabilities. It includes an optional non-verbal instruction and a schedule for retrograde observation support of behavioral misfits. It also offers discriminative indicators for intellectual neglect vs. intellectual advancement.
