Abstract:
Managers play a key role in realizing a humane organization of work. Transformational leadership aims to identify and examine leadership behaviors that strengthen employees’ awareness of the importance and values of task outcomes by articulating a vision for the future, providing a realistic action plan, and giving individualized support. Previous studies have revealed associations between transformational leadership and the psychological wellbeing of employees in different settings, while others did not find such associations. As research based on longitudinal data remains rare, this study builds on longitudinal data from two employee surveys conducted in 2015 and 2018 in a medium-sized German company. In this study, transformational leadershipt0 and gender had a significant impact on transformational leadershipt1, while psychological wellbeing∆, social capital∆, and age did not. Psychological wellbeingt0 and social capital∆ had a significant impact on psychological wellbeingt1, but transformational leadership∆, age, and gender did not. Therefore, it is worthwhile for companies to invest in social capital and focus on gender aspects at work. As underlying mechanisms regarding employees’ psychological wellbeing may differ between companies, it is worthwhile for each organization to conduct mental risk assessments to identify “red flags” and implement suitable measures.

Abstract:
Background: Musculoskeletal and mental disorders are often comorbid, with complex correlations of pain, impairment due to pain, disability, and psychological wellbeing. This study investigates the role of psychological wellbeing in a worksite healthcare program for employees within a German randomized controlled trial. Methods: For our analyses we used data of the module for minor musculoskeletal complaints (N = 180). The intervention included a workplace-related training and case manager support. Results: Changes over time were significant in the disability score (t(179) = 9.04, p < 0.001), pain intensity (t(179) = 9.92, p < 0.001), and psychological wellbeing (t(179) = −4.65, p < 0.001). Individuals with low vs. high psychological wellbeing showed significant differences in their disability scoret0,t1 (tt0(178) = −4.230, pt0 < 0.001, tt1(178) = −2.733, pt1 < 0.001), pain intensityt0,t1 (tt0(178) = −3.127, pt0 < 0.01, tt1(178) = −3.345, pt1 < 0.01, and motivationt0 (tt0(178) = 4.223, pt0 < 0.001). The disability score∆ mediates the impact of pain intensity∆ on psychological wellbeingt1 (beta = 0.155, p < 0.05). Psychological wellbeing∆ had an impact on the disability scoret1 (beta = −0.161, p < 0.01). Conclusions: The lower the psychological wellbeing is at an intervention’s beginning, the higher the potential is for its improvement, which might affect individuals’ experienced impairment due to pain. In order to achieve the best outcomes, interventions should include both pain-related and psychological aspects. Future research needs to explore the causality of the found interrelationships further.

Abstract:
This study investigated 2 distinct aspects of positive wellbeing: affective wellbeing and eudaimonia with progression of aortic stiffness, an index of subclinical cardiovascular disease. A total of 4754 participants (mean age 65.3 years, 3466 men, and 1288 women) from the Whitehall II cohort study provided data on affective and eudaimonic wellbeing using subscales from the control, autonomy, self-realization and pleasure-19 questionnaire. Aortic stiffness was measured by aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) at baseline (2008–2009) and 5 years later (2012–2013). Linear mixed models were used to measure the effect of affective and eudaimonic wellbeing on baseline PWV and 5-year PWV longitudinal change. A 1-SD higher eudaimonic wellbeing was associated with lower baseline PWV in men (β=−0.100 m/s [95% CI=−0.169 to −0.032]), independent of social, behavioral, and biological factors. This association persisted over 5 years. No such association was found in women (β=−0.029 m/s [95% CI=−0.126 to 0.069]). We did not find any association of positive wellbeing with change in PWV over time in either men or women. In older men, higher levels of eudaimonic wellbeing were associated with lower long-term levels of arterial stiffness. These findings support the notion that the pattern of association between positive wellbeing and cardiovascular health outcomes involves eudaimonic rather than affective wellbeing and is sex-specific.

Abstract:
This paper is part of a study on the impact of tourism experiences on the psychological wellbeing of individuals. Integrating the approach of positive psychology and research on tourists’ behaviour within the field of marketing, Caroll Ryff's concept of psychological wellbeing and the concept of wellbeing tourism were used for this purpose. The aim of the research was to investigate differences in the level of perceived psychological wellbeing by tourists preferring different types of wellbeing tourism, and the article presents theoretical and practical premises for defining wellbeing tourism. Wellbeing tourism can be defined as a specific type of tourism based on six pillars that ensure a sustainable approach to travel and leisure - simultaneous care for the body, soul, and mind of the tourist, as well as the environment, society, and economy of the destination area. Through analysis of variance, it was found that these differences are significant for those preferring natural and cultural wellbeing tourism, and they are also influenced by the perception of one's financial situation. Applying the results of the study will enable tourism enterprises to design an offer for tourists that will increase their sense of psychological wellbeing.

Abstract:
Abstract Research interests in the psychological wellbeing of caregivers has continued to attract heightened attention. Thus, this study presented an examination of the predictive roles of occupational stress and emotional intelligence on psychological wellbeing. Participants, who were 270 nurses that were selected through the proportionate stratified random sampling technique, responded to Scales of Psychological Wellbeing (SPWB), Occupational Stress Inventory (OSI) and Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS). Results from the multiple regression showed no link between occupational stress psychological wellbeing, but emotional intelligence predicted the psychological wellbeing. Furthermore, the study found that length of service did not significantly predict psychological wellbeing. Lastly, it revealed that occupational stress, emotional intelligence and length of service jointly predicted psychological wellbeing. Training and development opportunities to enhance nurses’ emotional intelligence should be encouraged in Government-owned hospitals to facilitate optimum psychological wellbeing of nurses.

Abstract:
Psychological wellbeing, which refers to the overall healthy functioning of a person, is a crucial asset. It is a combination of effective functioning and feeling good of one's surroundings. To achieve and maintain psychological wellbeing is very important for any stages of life, especially for young adults. Young adults go through multiple significant transitions in life. The main aim of the current study was to discover the components and predictors of psychological wellbeing of young adults and develop an effective intervention program to enhance their psychological wellbeing. The study was carried out in three different stages. A mixed-method design was implemented to conduct the study. The 42 items Ryff's Psychological Wellbeing Scale was chosen in the first stage for its optimal usability to measure psychological wellbeing. It needed to be adapted for the Bangladeshi population before conducting the study using this tool. So, in the first stage the adaptation took place. The English and Bangla Psychological Wellbeing Scale had a significant positive correlation. In the second stage Bangla Psychological Wellbeing Scale was administered to a 301-representative sample of young adults. The goal of the second stage was to identify the factors related with psychological wellbeing. In the third stage of the current study aimed to create an effective intervention program to improve the psychological wellbeing of the young adults. This study reinforces the six-factor model of psychological well-being by Ryff (1989) in the design of psychological wellbeing program of young adults.

Abstract:
Police employees are exposed to a variety of complex, work-related stressors and are susceptible to experiencing reduced psychological wellbeing. To advance understanding of the personal and social factors underpinning psychological wellbeing in this population, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between psychological wellbeing, perceived support from colleagues, received support from colleagues and personality factors in police employees. A sample of 381 police employees from a county police force in England completed an online questionnaire assessing: psychological wellbeing; perceived support; received support; and personality factors. Psychological wellbeing was significantly and positively associated with perceived support from colleagues, received support from colleagues, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience. Further investigation of these relationships using multiple logistic regression analysis found that perceived support from colleagues, received support from colleagues, extraversion, and emotional stability significantly predicted psychological wellbeing. Given growing concerns about psychological wellbeing in police forces, the findings could help to inform the promotion of psychological wellbeing across operational and non-operational police employees. The results suggest that increasing both perceptions of available support and the amount of support received among employees in police forces is important for enhancing psychological wellbeing in this population. Furthermore, police employees with lower levels of extraversion and emotional stability should also be considered for additional support to promote psychological wellbeing.

Abstract:
Purpose: The aim of this study to examine the relationship between different leadership styles (transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire) and the psychological wellbeing of women entrepreneurs, considering the potential moderating effects of demographic factors. Theoretical framework: The study is grounded in the Full Range Leadership Theory and the theory of psychological wellbeing, with the aim of understanding how different leadership styles may impact the psychological wellbeing of women entrepreneurs. Design/methodology/approach: A cross-sectional survey design was employed, utilizing a purposive sample of 328 women entrepreneurs in India. Data were collected using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). Multiple regression and moderation analyses were conducted to investigate the relationships between leadership styles, psychological wellbeing, and demographic factors. Results: The results indicated that transformational leadership was positively and significantly associated with psychological wellbeing (p < .001), while transactional and laissez-faire leadership styles were negatively and significantly associated with psychological wellbeing (p = .021 and p < .001, respectively). The overall regression model explained 25% of the variance in psychological wellbeing (F(3, 324) = 35.69, p < .001). No significant moderating effects of demographic factors (age, education level, years of experience, and business size) on the relationship between transformational leadership and psychological wellbeing were found (all p > .05). Conclusion: The findings suggest that transformational leadership is beneficial for the psychological wellbeing of women entrepreneurs, whereas transactional and laissez-faire leadership styles may have detrimental effects. The relationship between leadership styles and psychological wellbeing is consistent across different demographic factors, indicating the generalizability of the results. Research, Practical & Social implications: This study has several managerial implications, emphasizing the importance of transformational leadership in promoting psychological wellbeing among women entrepreneurs. Managers and organizations should invest in leadership development, create a supportive organizational culture, and prioritize employee wellbeing, performance management, talent retention, and diversity and inclusion initiatives to foster a conducive environment for women entrepreneurs to thrive. Originality/value: This study addresses a gap in the literature by examining the influence of leadership styles on the psychological wellbeing of women entrepreneurs and exploring potential moderating factors, providing novel insights into the factors that contribute to their success and wellbeing.

Abstract:
Mental health in children and adolescents has become an increasingly important topic in recent years. It is against this backdrop that physical education and school sports play an important role in promoting psychological wellbeing. The aim of this review was to analyse interventions for improving psychological wellbeing in this area. To this end, a literature review was conducted using four databases (WOS, SPORTDiscus, SCOPUS and ERIC) and the following keywords: psychological wellbeing, physical education, and school sports. Twenty-one articles met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that interventions varied greatly in terms of duration and used a wide range of strategies (conventional and non-conventional sports, physical activity, games, etc.) for promoting psychological wellbeing, primarily among secondary school students. There was a lack of consensus as to the conceptualisation of the construct of psychological wellbeing, resulting in a variety of tools and methods for assessing it. Some studies also suggested a link between psychological wellbeing and other variables, such as basic psychological needs and self-determination. Finally, this study provides a definition of psychological wellbeing through physical activity based on our findings.

Abstract:
Museums are expected to prove their social value and ability to have a long-term social impact. Hence, in order to do so, museums, as experience hubs and the most-visited cultural attraction, may use their potential to offer experiences that could help visitors thrive by increasing their psychological wellbeing. Although psychological wellbeing has been a hot topic, the synthesized and holistic review of the literature on this theme has been lacking in regard to museums. Hence, we conducted an analysis using the PRISMA protocol to answer two research questions: (1) Can museums increase the visitor’s psychological wellbeing? (2) How can the museum experience be designed to enhance the psychological wellbeing of the visitors and how can that potentially be measured? The results showed that museums can enhance visitors’ and other stakeholders’ psychological wellbeing. This can be achieved by designing museum experiences that are attractive, comfortable (restorative), comprehensible, participative, innovative, and sustainable, relying on specific detailed guidelines provided in the article. The Museum Wellbeing Toolkit serves to measure the efficiency of the proposed guidelines in stimulating the psychological wellbeing of museum visitors. If backed by wellbeing policy frameworks, museums may increase their role in fostering psychological wellbeing. As wellbeing public policies have been rather rare to date, future research may explore the effects of the existing ones to provide recommendations for new developments on the topic.

Abstract:
This longitudinal study investigated the psychological wellbeing and self-esteem of students during the transition between secondary school and university. The sample comprised 197 students (82 male; 115 female). The mean age of the students at the start of the study was 18.54 years (SD = 0.78). Students completed measures of psychological wellbeing (Ryff Psychological Wellbeing Scale) and self-esteem (Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale) during their final year of secondary school and again at the start of their university studies. Repeated measures (RM) multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to investigate how transition status and gender affected aspects of psychological wellbeing and self-esteem. Multivariate analysis showed main effect of the transition from school to university on psychological wellbeing and self-esteem. Univariate analysis indicated that psychological wellbeing was higher at the start of university studies than during the final year of secondary school, but failed to confirm the effect of the transition on self-esteem. Gender by transition status interactions for two psychological wellbeing dimensions (autonomy and purpose in life) were found.

Abstract:
The goal of this observational project was to investigate the association among perceived pain interference and poor psychological wellbeing in United States adults. Adults over 18 years of age in the 2019 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey were eligible for inclusion if they were alive for the calendar year and had data available for their pain status. Hierarchical logistical regression examined statistically significant associations among perceived pain interference and poor psychological wellbeing. Results showed that greater levels of perceived pain interference were significantly related with larger odds of reporting poor psychological wellbeing. Additionally, several other variables were related with larger or lower odds of reporting poor psychological wellbeing. These findings provide insight into the effect of perceived pain interference and other variables with poor psychological wellbeing, which may help recuperate the psychological wellbeing of US adults with pain.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic, and the public health measures to combat it, have strained the finances of many families. While parents transitioned to working from home, children transitioned to learning virtually, limiting their organized social and physical activities. Families also reduced the frequency and size of gatherings, impacting psychological wellbeing. This study sought to understand the influence of financial wellbeing on children’s physical activity and leisure screen-based activities via mothers’ and children’s psychological wellbeing. In May and June of 2020, 254 Grade 7 Canadian children and their mothers completed separate online surveys assessing family financial wellbeing, mothers’ and children’s psychological wellbeing, and children’s physical activity and leisure screen-based activities. Structural equation modelling was used to examine the indirect effects of mothers’ and children’s psychological wellbeing on the relationship between financial wellbeing and children’s physical activity and leisure screen-based activities. Final models were adjusted for potential confounders. Study results indicate a significant indirect association between financial wellbeing and children’s physical activity and leisure screen-based activities via mothers’ and children’s psychological wellbeing. These findings demonstrate that higher levels of financial wellbeing are associated with better mental and physical health benefits in children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract:
Wellbeing is a state of good physical, psychological and social functioning of an individual enabling him to function in coherence with self and society. While health indicates the state of the body and mind, wellbeing refers to the positive side of physical, psychological and social functioning. Physical and psychological wellbeing is concerned just with the individual and social wellbeing is the ability to be in coherence with the society and maintaining good social relationships. Smartphone usage is a very important factor that needs to be studied in relation to their wellbeing as college students spend most of their time with their smartphone. In the present study, correlational research design was used to study the relationship between smartphone usage and their psychological wellbeing based on the objectives and hypotheses which need not be a cause and effect relationship. The study was carried out in Kakinada (also popular as Co-Canada), Andhra Pradesh. The sample size was 400 college students. The age group of the sample ranged from 16-25 years. The findings of the study indicated that the total psychological wellbeing of the college students showed negative correlation with ritualistic and problematic smartphone usage but not instrumental usage where the students used it for goal directed activities. Autonomy was the only psychological variable which was not predicted by smartphone usage. Instrumental smartphone use positively predicted some of the dimensions of psychological wellbeing but other usage patterns i.e., ritualistic and problematic usage negatively affected the psychological wellbeing.

Abstract:
Incidence of social isolation i.e., the state of being disconnected from social relationships, has increased significantly in the aftermath of Covid-19. In turn, the emerging phenomenon of social isolation across the world has impacted the interpersonal relations among married couples, among other consequences. This research studies dyadic coping and psychological wellbeing among married individuals in India and also explores whether dyadic coping strategies can predict psychological wellbeing of people afflicted by social isolation in the post-Covid-19 scenario. Results of the study indicate that dyadic coping predicts psychological wellbeing to a great extent. Among males, supportive dyadic coping impacts the psychological wellbeing while among females, common dyadic coping prominently predicts psychological wellbeing. All dimensions of dyadic coping have a significant correlation with psychological wellbeing except Negative Dyadic Coping by Oneself and Negative Dyadic Coping of the Partner, which do not seem to have any association with the latter.

Abstract:
Sports officials are exposed to numerous performance and personal stressors, however little is known about their mental health and psychological wellbeing. This study investigated levels of mental health and psychological wellbeing of sports officials in Australia, and the demographic, officiating, and workplace factors associated with these outcomes. An online survey consisting of demographic and officiating questions, and measures of work engagement, mental health and psychological wellbeing was completed by 317 officials. A negative emotional symptoms score was computed. Associations between key demographic, officiating, and workplace factors with negative emotional symptoms and psychological wellbeing were assessed using univariate and multivariate analyses. Officials who were younger, not in a committed relationship, having lower levels of education, and less officiating experience reported higher levels of negative emotional symptoms, while males, older than 50 years, in a committed relationship and more officiating experience had higher levels of psychological wellbeing. The ability to self-manage workload and demonstrate professional autonomy were strongly associated with negative emotional symptoms and psychological wellbeing. Officials reported high negative emotional symptoms, but also high levels of psychological wellbeing. The ability to manage workload and to express professional autonomy are important determinants of mental health and wellbeing levels of sports officials.

Abstract:
Wellbeing has important implications for students’ success during and beyond university. As such, educators need clear empirical evidence of the aspects of university life that contribute to students’ wellbeing. We use a mixed-methods approach to ask whether and how students’ diverse university experiences contribute to their self-rated wellbeing. In an online survey, 696 students provided accounts of positive and negative experiences at university and self-rated their wellbeing using the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS). Most of the sample reported high wellbeing, though there was diversity in their reported experiences. Regression analysis revealed that students’ experiences at university significantly contributed to the variation in their wellbeing scores. Social and academic experiences were the strongest positive contributors to student wellbeing; whereas gender, social experiences and emotional experiences were the strongest negative contributors. Our findings offer guidance for strategies within academic and non-academic university contexts that can effectively and efficiently promote student wellbeing.

Abstract:
The business case for wellbeing is now an influential agenda in the built environment. Increasing demand for user-centred environments means evidence-based design proven to deliver wellbeing outcomes for end users is essential. The challenge is to effectively capture and disseminate this evidence to a range of expert and non-expert audiences. Further, being able to make the link between increased wellbeing and an increase in the productivity, or performance, of building users requires new definitions and methods. An innovative wellbeing valuation approach is presented, consisting of a multi-item scale to measure and quantify the wellbeing outcomes experienced by building users, and impact reporting techniques using Social Return on Investment to produce transferable, monetised evaluation metrics. This combination has the capability to communicate the value of design in a powerful and accessible manner. Wellbeing valuation metrics represent an opportunity to develop new user-driven knowledge and shape the built environment in positive ways. Practical application: Wellbeing has become an influential agenda in the built environment in recent years, suggesting that user-centred priorities will become increasingly significant to the design and construction sector. The wellbeing valuation approach presented represents an innovative blend of a psychological wellbeing model, quantitative measurement and financial reporting to produce transferable metrics to communicate the value of design in a powerful and transformative manner. Wellbeing valuation is a nascent practice, but it provides the professions with opportunities to collaborate with end users and develop new knowledge about buildings, enhancing the ability of practitioners to shape the built environment in positive ways.
