Full textThis study presents a reflection on a carried through psychoanalytical clinic of setting analytical traditional, in a public institution of the Social Assistance. This practical clinic comes being developed in a municipal project of support opened educative partner, destined to take care of to children and considered adolescents, for the Statute of the Child and the Adolescent, in situation of personal and social risk for being displayed the situations of risks with harmful consequences to its full development in multiple dimensions. Hypotheses initial is of that this significant one, for being a social imperative, produces an effect of "capture" in an only form of to become subjective, hindering them subjectivity. The objective of the present work is to delineate an extended psychoanalytic clinic in the Lacan referential of the theory of the four speeches. The group-workshop, understood as a speech structure, aims at to make possible the construction of collective social bows through the device of the Speech of the Analyst. In this clinic the coordinator of the group must operate looking for to place itself in the place of the agent of the Speech of the Analyst in order to provoke the production of new sensible for the significant situation of risk the one that these children are submitted and to make possible that the significant child assumes itself of master (S1) and articulate its speeches.

Psychologists and other professionals have been increasingly asked to conduct groups in various types of organizations: health and social services, schools, companies etc... On the other hand, several well respected group theories were designed for group work in private practice and are thus not prepared to properly address such organizational environments and demands. But beyond the technical dimension, the ethical principles of such work must be addressed. Based on a psychoanalytical perspective, our stand is that such groups should aim at promoting spaces where experiences, lived in social situations, can be appropriated by symbolization, and, at the same time, should contribute to organizational and social changes whenever excessive suffering is produced and reproduced. We believe that the psychoanalytical technique can guide us thru the reflection about how groups can achieve such goals. On these lines, this thesis general goal is to propose the basis for a psychoanalytical model which could comprehend every psychological related group practice in organizations and which offers parameters to both establishing group s pertinence to each organizational context and providing for a detailed discussion of its conduction. Our method is mainly theoretical in which Pichon-Rivière s concept of task is central as we take it as a touching stone that a group task must absolutely be aligned with the organizational primary task in all cases. We employ key concepts form René Kaës to bridge group and psychoanalysis, allowing for a comprehensive psychoanalytical debate. From this debate, the main elements of our model emerge. We take the learning operative group and the group with mediating objects (highlighting the Fotolanguage©, as discussed by Vacheret) as the two group strategies (settings) of reference to all of our work. We propose that the transference with the task can be independent from the transference with a group conductor and that it selectively attracts psychic elements connected to certain social dimensions. We approach the problem of interventions in the group in terms of transference with the task interpretations and uses of parameters (according to Eissler´s terminology). Towards the end of the thesis, we will present three group strategies discussed in supervisions which shall illustrate and dialog with our ideas. We can thus establish the foundations of what we call Task Centered Psychoanalytical Groups

Full textThis work discusses both the possibilities and limits of the psychoanalytic treatment of childhood psychosis at a mental health institution in which psychoanalysis is not currently used, particularly, the APAE of São Luís. First, it discusses psychoanalysis\'s theory of psychosis, taking into consideration institution\'s features and emphasizing the possibilities for interaction between the field of psychoanalysis and the institutions of treatment. It discusses the types of introduction of psychoanalysis into three example institutions of psychoanalytical treatments. Next, it reviews the \"four discourses\" proposed by Lacan in order to develop and enhance the discussion between psychoanalysis and the institutions. Through the study of a clinical case of child\'s psychosis treated at APAE, it was possible to show the capabilities and limitations of psychoanalytical treatment. It finds that some maneuvers are possible, in one hand, in order to block The Other, and, in the other hand, to change the previous discourse through the analyst\'s discourse, even though those modifications don\'t change the institution\'s discourse. Finally, it points out limits to the treatment of The Other (i.e. psychosis\' treatment) when the APAE\'s current structures don\'t support these maneuvers.

Full textThe aim of the present study is to discuss the relationship among psychologist, patient and institutional situation at the assistence of psychoanalytic approach carried out inside institutions heterogeneous to the psychoanalysis. Our investigation starts from the following questions: a) how the institutional dimension is learned by the subject and how this is reflected in the analytical situation; b) how the analytical situation inserts in a strange institutional context and which are the consequences of this insertion; c) what are the possible technical proceeds for the practice of the psychoanalyst in these conditions. We then discuss which are the clinical-theoretical conditions that one time permit, and other time not, the exercise of the psychoanalytical practice in the institutions. From texts of metapsychology we investigate which are the conditions of the transference in the institution and their unfoldings as much for the patient as for the therapist and what the influence of the institutional conditions in the incontinent dynamic established among therapist, patient and analytical situation. We discuss how the transference manifests inside the institutions, which are the resources that the psychoanalyst has to work with this transference dynamics, how we can metapsychologically differentiate the institutions from the organizations, how constitute and configure the unconscious dynamic among the subject and the social institutions, how the psychoanalysis also characterizes as an institution in these treatments. Finally, we proposed to do a essay, with the assistance of two clinical vignette, about how the conceptual investigation that we carried out could appear in singular cases of treatment in institutions, offering alternatives of comprehension for cases where in some way the institutional condition offered resistance for the process. We conclude that the work in the institutions demands disposition from the psychoanalyst to analyze his own condition of belonging to the institutions, as well as the comprehension that the transference scene isnt only in the treatment setting. As transference support, the institution also offers the singular possibility for the elaboration of the partial pulsation, in the measure where it can be depositary of a unit of power that surpasses the possibilities of the classical conditions of framing. In front of the limitations and alternatives, the identity of a psychoanalytic practice in the institutions configures as a possible however challenging performance to the psychoanalysts.

Full textThis work aims to investigate the practices of hospital volunteering by means of interviews with volunteers, in order to understand the production of the subjectivity in the speech of these institutional agents. It undertakes initially a historical survey on voluntary work, as well as on the birth of the hospital and related charitable practices. The theoretical discussion begins with the problematization of the christian commandment of love for the neighbor to the light of Sigmund Freud psychoanalysis and its new reading by Françoise Dolto. It algo discusses the desconstruction of the subject in Michel Foucault and its relations with the concept of \"hinge-subject\" in Marlene Guirado. For the research semidirected interviews with eight volunteers in hospitals, proceeding from four distinct groups, are carried out. The interviews are analyzed with the discourse analysis method elaborated by Marlene Guirado. From these analyses, it is evidenced that the voluntary work has as institutional object not the cure, but well-being. Although the recurrences in the interviewed person\'s speeches are remarkable, the procedures and relations constituted by, and constituent of, voluntary work are showed in diverse ways in different groups. Its practice is developed interstitially in the contraflow of the hospital institution. The production of subjectivity in voluntary work is accomplished by the various ways the possible nearness relations between volunteers and patients are constructed.

Full textThis work, based on the psychoanalytical reference, studies the transference from the speech of doctors who work in hospitals and public first-aid clinics in Porto Velho city: Rondônia state. They are ten doctors (both male and female ones), men and women distributed among seven specialities, including both just graduated ones and doctors who have been working for over 40 years in these areas. Two interviews with each doctor were made and their speeches are shown and analysed from discursive fragments on, taken from the material obtained by the transcriptions. The analysis of the discursive propositions aimed to realize how the manifestation of the transference are noticed by the doctors. Based on these propositions, it was possible to realise that, though the people speak in a position of authority, in function of the where they are in the institutional system, their speeches were also determined by fear, loneliness and impotence, face the displeasures of the medical duty. This position of authority was revealed as paradoxical, whereas it offers them the status of and admired figure and vital for the society and, at the same time, makes them consigners of an illusory of omnipotence, taking them to face some situations which are difficult to be handled, from the expectations derived from the clients. There is not just the sense of duty that the transference is part of the relationship with the patient, as the comprehension that, sometimes, these manifestations are closely linked to the getting ill and getting better. However, the speeches lead to the disqualification of the doctors at dealing such cathexis, as well as the inner response of theirs over themselves.

Full textThe research aims to investigate the impacts of family, community and institutional dimensions in which young offenders are included, in the promotion and maintenance of violence. It were organized information from 121 adolescents who were in confinement, taking into account family structure, education, employment, drug use, disciplinary sanctions, receiving visits, among others; and conducted group interviews with adolescents inserted in semi-confinement in the municipality São Paulo. The material was analyzed from the perspective of social psychology and psychoanalysis, in its border areas, having primacy in discussing the concepts of unconscious alliances and intermediary functions. It appears that adolescents generally were moved away from schools, are drugs users, come from families who are in a situation of fragility and live with family and community violences. It argues in particular that the interventions based on building links and creative shared psychic spaces between families, teenagers, professionals and communities may grant ideals, provide continence to disordered psychic elements, promote contours identity, and rescue the sense of belonging, become essential tools for socioeducational working, within a time which feeds violence and rupture

Full textThis thesis discusses some issues of the university education and the work of psychologists in public institutions by proposing a perspective of analyses which emphasizes the dimension of intersubjective relations (the group) as central in order to comprehend the institutional field. Its theoretical basis is the Social Psychology (Pichon-Rivière), the Transitional Analyses (René Kaës) and Blegers contributions. It is also supported from the contributions of the Institutional Analyses of the Discourse (Guirado), to propose a methodological frame which considers the concept of bond as a unity of analyses of institutional phenomena as well as in the constitution of the psychic subject, in the various dimensions of its determination such as: intrapsychic, intersubjective (conscious and unconscious) and transubjective; and also of the psychic grupal and institutional processes which are expressed by the meshes, moorings, pacts, stiffening, disruptions etc. It has been worked with the concept of subject of the unconcious as being subject of group for to think its relationships in the institutional field for the accomplishment of its institutional task. The field of investigation is composed by reports elaborated by students of degree at IPUSP for the discipline Processes Group (visiting a public institution). The main results of the analyses show the great importance of promoting a university education centralized in the group and the collective scope in order to organize a training of the psychologist as a researcher of institutional field (as worker or consultant). For so, it is required the work of promoting the links among university education and work institutions towards the creation of exchanges possibilities in which the university education could take place in both spaces. The work of psychologist researcher in the institutions, driven by the Institutional Analysis of the Bound and inextricably develloped by the group as a device, is developed when it assumes the function of the intermediary in the institutional relationships and generates transitional spaces that contribute to the grupal psychic work of surpassing barriers, in the process of change and transformation and the accomplishment of institution social task

This thesis discusses the affective relationship that follows the encounter of children and their caregivers in shelters, taking into consideration the later own life experiences. The research presents a qualitative study about the complex intertwining of stories of the individuals involved. In one hand, the caregivers or educators, women who undertake their own struggles in life while dealing with a primitive work environment, where they must embrace children who are both neglected by their own families and by Public Policies. Their stories intersect in the struggles: to care for and to protect these children, while acknowledging them as subjects of civil rights in a context seen by the institution as violent and of abandonment, bring back the caregiver‘s own struggles and create a context of empathy. Based on Winnicott, we analyze what are the main fundamentals to offer those children and how to define and optimize the caregivers‘ role. In addition, by analyzing both the past and current realities of the professionals (Guirado 1987; 2002), we discuss about the intertwining forces inside this intersubjective relationship. In other words, we aim to investigate the meaning of affection and the ways the involved parts demonstrate it versus the guidelines the institution would need to provide. By examining the narrative of seven caregivers along with observation of their routine in the shelters, as well as combining information from the shelter‘s official written notes, we found a strong correlation between the lives of educators and children, with the institution being the biggest divergence since it will affect the perception of otherness. That means the educator empathize and feel compelled to provide care, however, is simply not able to provide sufficient refuge. It is clear that all involved need asylum, including the caregivers since they all strongly idealize the institution of the family. Therefore, this study intends to clarify the challenges faced by the shelters when dealing with providing refuge, since the caregivers‘ background and feelings will play an important role on how they care for the children. We suggest new approaches, from research and public policies standpoints in order to create ultimately new alternatives to improve care to sheltered children.

Full textThe main aim of this research is to examine the possible links between cancer decompensation and work situations experienced as violent and traumatic. Based on her clinical experience in an onco-haematology department, and following a number of encounters with subjects who cited the professional sphere as the cause of their illness, the author wished to carry out more extensive and precise field investigations into this subject. The aim was to find out how many subjects were potentially 'work-sick', and to talk to them in order to identify the conscious and unconscious movements that, in their view, contributed to such a somatic situation, among other factors. The clinical interviews with twenty subjects, who were highly committed to their work, highlighted the effects of (ob)scenalisation of the unconscious scene on the professional scene, and the possible traumatic collision between these two scenes. Her theoretical hypotheses enabled the author to propose an understanding of these movements through the existence of an ego-pro linked to institutional envelopes - made up of the institution, the work organisation and the various groups to which the worker belongs - which would serve the subject's psychic and somatic equilibrium when his subjectivity unfolds at work. Conversely, when subjectivity is prevented, the author has shown how elements previously contained and/or metabolised can come back and echo the unbound elements of the amential unconscious, causing serious somatisation (the original and primary dysfiliation collapsing in a traumatic way with professional disaffiliation)

Full textThis research has been motivated from our fourteen years of experience as psychologist at CRT Centre of Reference and Training on IST/Aids. We have been observed such as different forms of appropriations of the strategies from the programme; sometimes traditionally or others in conflict, by psychologist community. The observation of conflicts related to new needs of approaches in the Aids fields was kept along all our experience in the institution. The forms from which psychologists use the university education in order to give them background are not always steady among them. So, this present work aims to investigate the relations built and kept by psychologists with those responsible institutions for their carrying out work: University Education and the IST/Aids Programme public policies. As first plan, we developed investigation on the origins of psychology in Brazil, considering its main aspects and trends. As following, we studied the formation and organization of public health in Brazil and the belonging process of psychologists to this. After this we studied and analized aspects of the appropriation by psychologists in the IST/Aids Programme and its proposed strategies, in order to verify how psychologists handle with strategies which might be familiar or not to them. We interviewed four psychologists who act out in distinct sectors of CRT. Some of them are much more closed to a sort of clinical work and the two others act out more closed to the Programme strategies. We understood our subjects of research the psychologists from the theoretical position developed by the french psychoanalyst René Kaës, for whom the subject of unconscious as being subject of the group and in the same time there are the particular psychic formation demanded by such processes. In the end, we could observe that the psychologists have been developed an amount of pacts structured by Unconscious Alliances, theory developed by René Kaës. These pacts occur in order to produce such as appeasement of conflicts, present in the institutional activities and still to promote such a kind of adaptation and belonging to the group. We discussed, as last words, that those institutional pacts work as defensive processes, in order to avoid contradictions and tensions and, by other side keeping the life in institution under control. However, one can notice losses and damages during theses processes in that creative potential and the activities work can be threatened. It is important to face all of this in the field of university in dialogue with the strategies proposed by the public health and, as final, one must face that by building investigator professionals, as well

Full textThe present work stems from the questioning about perception, discourses and practices related to madness in the Brazilian context of the Psychiatric Reform, sustaining the hypothesis that there are obstacles in the relationship between those who join the anti-asylum thought and the so-called lunatics: obstacles supported by a clinical-political paradigm that we aim at investigating. The rationality that arranges this paradigm is the object of analysis from this research, which intends to retrieve movement and opening ideas involved in the main proposition of the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform for a society without asylums allying it to the idea of the coming community. Therefore, we present and discuss elements that compose and delimit anti-asylum thought: its foundations, narratives and practices - its ways of struggle. From this point, we have noticed that the denial of the asylum and the affirmation of a community-based mental healthcare in which fundamental aspects of the anti-asylum struggle articulate themselves offering contours to a thought that engenders specific ways of relating to madness. This articulation also produces boundaries: clear and precise ones that distinguish this ideal inclusive community from a society that marginalizes madness. The delimitation and recognition of these frontiers are important strategies because they enable to make visible and publicize the violence, the mistreatment and the exclusion of the asylum logic, thus conquering social support for the struggle. Likewise, a second conflict regarding boundaries arises, but this time in an opposite direction: the conflict is for the dissolution of the limits, for the abolition of the real and symbolic walls that segregate madness. It is in this drawing and erasing of lines that it would take root a society without asylums. The battlefield of this work, at last, locates itself also on these frontiers that, instead of erasing them or ensuring their configuration, aim to move them: walls, boundaries or limits, that as well as imprison or segregate, also welcome, hides and protect. Furthermore, even if they seem clear and precise, they are discontinuous and open lines, containing holes which also move and produce movements. It is in this change of perspective that we seek to mobilize the boundaries that define our struggles, our ideals of community and our ways of relating to madness in order to break away from their total forms

Full textThe general objective of this research was: analyze the meanings given by children under shelter with family ties and as specific objectives: knowing the path taken by these children until they got under shelter through charts and interviews with the staff; research how the children under shelter realize the family environment being secluded temporarily from it and investigate the impact of sheltering in the lives of these children. The methodology was of a qualitative nature. The data collection began with information subsidized in rapport with the children. The instruments used were the Drawing the Family Test, Duss fables and charts or follow up folders existent in the institution. In order do complement the data obtained from the charts, we interviewed professionals from the staff of the sheltering institution. Six children, boys and girls between seven and nine years of age, participated in the research. Among the reasons for sheltering one can find: abandoning of the home by the mother, neglect and motherhood administration. In the Draw the Family Test, all presented the following aspects: difficulty in drawing their own family, aggression noticed by the elimination of characters, they reflected instability and fragility in the drawings (clearly, we must consider the circumstances of development of the children); five presented difficult of inserting themselves in the drawing; three did not represent the parents; two added other relatives, indicating the need of affection or too much dwelling with them, the adding of symbols; one did not represent the mother and another one added a member of the institution. In Dusss fables the most frequent answers, two children, the same that demonstrated aggression and hostility in face of the first scenery as well as the Complex of Edipo having the same storyline as their real lives. Therefore, the data pointed to a meaning of family ambivalence and no cohesion, highlighting the fragility in their dynamic. As to the sheltering, the majority (five) the children related that they had a positive meaning towards their lives, stated that they liked being in the institution, although this feeling didnt drive them to rejecting their families

The street boys are related to a complex reality of social exclusion to which thousands of children and adolescents are submited. This reality, perpassed and constitued by social, economicals, politics, cultural and historical factors, has a tendency to occult what exists as singular in the history, in the suffering, in the families dynamics, in the lives of subjects that, in front of experienced conflicts and also considering the role of dejection in the social context, adopt the same exit in order to the existence be possible (CAMPOLINA, 2001): the street. Children and adolescents, thus, left in a way that reveal to them the most rude and real face of the exclusion, of the abandonment, of the poverty, of the violence which has a tendency to reproduce in the circulation among different spaces the house in the street, the institutions but also trying to find a possible way of addressing that recognize them as subjects. If this search always exists, or if they are searching. This research was developed in this way, based in an experience at one institution that takes care of children and adolescents in streets situation. Vinculated to the research project of Frej (2007), Limits, barriers and addressment among mother and child, this research had as objective understand the demand addressed by children and adolescents in streets situation to the institution. The continuous transgression, the destructiveness in the relationship with the institution, furthermore, the expressions as Make me blurred anymore, You are a search-trash, make possible suppositions about appeal, demands addressed to the institution. The psychoanalitic theory, fundamentally the formulations of Freud and Lacan, as well as Bergès e Balbo, brought important constributions to understand the demand, the appeal, the addressment, the play of positions between the subject and the Other. The research analysed data from the registers of the institution with the major purpose to contextualize the public and consider especificities in the attendance. Moreover, discussed three clinical cases, with the objective to, in the passage of the adolescents in the institution, articulate questions concernents to the demand that they have addressed. From the discussions made, we suggested that the institution as a space of addressment (treasure of significants) which, making a hypotheses of an appeal to the shouts of help of children and adolescents in streets situation, constitue itself as a place that receive, interdict, nominate, delimitate, and symbolize beyond of the real of the street. A place that when register the subject in the language domain thus, in another position -, institute the bet and the possibility that, in the appeal Make me blurred anymore see indistinctly the building and the addressment of demands to the institution. Key-words: Children and adolescents in streets situation, appeal, demand, institution, addressment

Full textThe increase in the consumption of psychoactive substances has been widespread as a social problem and one of the 20 most important public health problems in the world. It takes a critical and contextualized reflection on this, retaking the issue of drug use as the effect of a speech. Different areas of knowledge have been called in this scenario. Among these, we highlight the one of the psychoanalysis that sustains a praxis from a specific policy. What work have psychoanalysts been producing in this scenario? What are the challenges and possibilities in this context? The objective of this research was to investigate the work methods that have been proposed by psychoanalysts in alcohol and drug addiction treatment institutions. It is a research in psychoanalysis, through the following procedures: i) a systematic review of the literature; ii) use of the technique of semi-structured interviews with psychoanalysts working in institutions. The support of an analytical clinic beyond the walls of the practice and psychoanalytic institutions has been, since Freud, an increasingly recurrent choice of analysts. Among the challenges, how to continue a work that is not built under the aegis of normativity, universalization, the eradication of the symptom, in the relationship with the team, in an institution that has just these principles as a supporting base? How to work out of par, without this meaning out of a bond in the institution? From the literature, it was possible to extract that, although in the Lacanian logic, psychoanalysis in intension and extension are in a Moebian continuity, the texts presented a kind of rupture. If, on the one hand, from the methodological point of view, in the clinic with the patient user of alcohol and drugs there was a vast and rich theoretical construction; On the other, there was a certain silencing or an exacerbated evidence in terms of the difficulties of the analyst\'s work in relation to other knowledge. One of the conclusions of this research is that the analyst\'s work in relation to other discourses can be taken not only in terms of difficulty but as the cause of analytical work. For this, it was important to consider the relation that the analyst establishes with his own knowledge, with another discourse and what he decides to do from there. One of the contributions of this research is the formalization of a possible modality of construction of the analyst\'s place in relation to other discourses, using the Lacanian notions of politics, strategy, and tactics as reading operators. Entering the institutional scenario does not guarantee a place for the analyst, it takes a commitment to build it every time. Construction that implies an ethic operated by an act and a tie specific modality, in function of a purpose of treatment that does not pass through the ideals. Bringing such a structure, admittedly by the analyst himself, into this relationship of continuity and articulation of psychoanalysis in intensity and extent is seen as a fundamental condition for an analyst to practice his specificity in the institutional context

Full textThis thesis is the result of reflections on 27 years of work as a psychologist and psychoanalyst, and makes special reference to the work that since late 1997, has been developed in the Studio Acaia, NGOs that receive the school counter-part in various workshops, children, adolescents and families from two slums and a low-income housing development surrounding the marketing year of warehouses and general warehouses of São Paulo (Ceagesp). These are issues related to the potential of psychoanalysis, in addition to the office of clinical and continues the ideas presented in the master\'s thesis \"Extensive Clinic: psychoanalysis where it is needed.\" In the Studio Acaia, the activities in forms of studios/workshops, the way we established working groups and the means of intervention of educators team generated a field of knowledge that, for some years, has been perceived as an important model exchange and discussion and encouraged me to investigate it as a living organism and propellant these strategies. As part of the growing slums of large cities, the idea of taking the Acaia a thesis on it is anchored, from my point of view, the interest in thinking about it as a possible matrix of projects, and to reflect on the management of Acaia with psychoanalytic character, explain how psychoanalysis can make important contributions to emerging contemporary issues. This research is to sense the possibility of a work that expresses a way of doing research at the university with operating return, ensuring production of knowledge in line with the concrete demands of the community

Full textThis thesis investigates the function of the similar while a foundation for work whit heterogeneous groups. The function of the resembling relates to the horizontal relationship between children and their specificities, that is, what only one child can do for another? We begin with a presentation on the main problems that involve the group field, witch is the clinical device that we use as a research field. Next, we present and discuss the heterogeneous groups in Therapeutic Education. They are groups composed of children with different subjective issues, which increases the diversity and possibilities of unprecedented encounters among children. After, we carried out a theoretical survey of the place of the similar for three authors psychoanalysts: Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan and René Kaës. This survey allowed a characterization of the function of the similar, also made through three vignettes presented and analyzed. In this way, we want to support the thesis that, in heterogeneous groups, the function of the similar would be an operator of reading and intervention that can guide the work of coordination and enable the construction of otherness. We find that, from the encounter with the similar, a space for otherness may arise

Full textThe issues developed in the writing of this thesis are due to a path from an interdisciplinary psychoanalytic clinical practice in an institution. This practice has developed in different institutional contexts, both related to education and mental health, aimed at the treatment of children and adolescents with different difficulties related to their psychic constitution. In the course of these experiences, we are faced with the exigency of grounding our interventions. At the moment in which we passed to dedicate ourselves in these contexts to the creation of new clinical modalities of treatment, our work of grounding was directed to a theoretical-clinical elaboration of these modalities. In the present thesis, we seek to formalize this elaboration from an exercise of refinement of statements and concepts towards the possibility of sustaining a psychoanalytic praxis in teams and institutions. As well as Lacan formalized psychoanalytic act and discourse since the legacy psychoanalytic clinical method by Freud, we start from an initial premise: that we can in a homologous way highlight elements of a clinical praxis that, transposed to the work of the teams and institutions concerned with reception and treatment of children with autisms and psychoses, will favor the proposition of psychoanalytic clinical devices We take as a base for a methodological elaboration a dialogue with institutional experiences that organize the proposition of devices to treat children and adolescents with autisms and psychoses since the psychoanalytic framework. From the standout underlying logic to the organization of these institutions, we reflect on what minimum conditions are necessary in the insertion of treatment devices in teams and institutions, not necessarily psychoanalytic, so that we consider that we are working since the logic of a psychoanalytic clinical device. With the elements of our elaboration, we intend to offer theoretical-clinical tools to those professionals who are came across everyday with the challenges and impasses in the reception and treatment of children and adolescents with autisms and psychoses. Thus, it stimulates such the elaboration of the devices in progress as their creation in the spaces in which they are absent.

Full textThe objective of this research is to develop a study of the participation within Non- Governmental Organizations institutional context, using a psychoanalytic perspective of subject, group and institutions. The initial approach of the analyses is based on the evaluation of several descriptions of the phenomena named as participation by the Social Sciences Literatures. Two phenomena of different natures are outlined: one refers to the rational attitude of the individual constrained by the institutional framework; the other refers to the group taken as a process by its own, bordering the established institutional framework and aiming to transform it. A different approach from a psychoanalytical standpoint is proposed in this work. Starting from the premise that participation is an inter-subjective relationship, both natures of the phenomena are here analyzed as part of the same inter-subjective process. Based on psychoanalytical concepts, it is considered that both of them implicate the individual as well as the group on its mutual foundation, and operate under the effect of the subconscious causality. But, one takes place within an institutional framework and the other happens beyond it. Those differences outline the dialectical relationship between the institution and the instituting process. The participation issue in the institutional NGO environment is analyzed based on the definitions of participation here proposed. Based on a research of the social and historical context of the NGOs foundation in Brazil (in the 1970s and 1980s), highlighting its essential elements, it is demonstrated that the most representative NGOs were created to provide support to popular participation. Considered as spontaneously emerged, this participation phenomenon that took place during the Brazilian dictatorship and the democratic transition, appeared as an instituting process aiming transformations of the established institutions of society. Once in a democratic context, the NGOs are believed to be the representatives of the civil society for participation in public matters, as well as the protagonists of a social transformation. However, this belief built by the heritage of its instituting origins, expressed on those ideologies of social transformation and provenance from civil society, counterpoint the current instituted characteristics of those organizations. The NGOs are now well set up in society within the established institutional framework. They are constantly seeking their own survival, tied up to their financial supporters and their interests, which raises the question of what are the real demands that are being responded to and how those organizations could really act as change agents. In this sense, the participation issue within the NGO institutional context expresses a paradox between an instituting meaning of participation as represented by those organizations, and its institutional reality. In addition to the theoretical study of this issue, together with additional exploratory goals, three interviews with NGO Directors are presented in this study. The objective of these interviews is to understand how the subjects, here considered as subjects within a group as proposed by Rene Kaës, handle the paradox of their participatory practices once they are inserted into the institutional context of these organizations

The objects of study of this research are the discourse of the Administrative Technicians in Education (TAE's that entered the first contest of the university) and the official institutional discourse on the project of Latin American integration, in the context of UNILA. Research conceived the institution as a human creation, founded by a discourse and a desire that sustains it, which serve as a foundation for its existence. Already the discourse was understood as a chain of signifiers articulated and provisionally linked together, a configuration that can be constantly altered through the significant slip process. The objective of this work was to compare the official discourse of the university with the discourse of the APS, so that the concordances and contradictions between the discourses could be identified. The methodology used to treat the data was the discourse analysis under the psychoanalysis approach, from which it was possible to identify important signifiers in the history of the institution, which appeared interconnected to the theme of integration. The observance of the repetition of signifiers directed the work of analysis, through which it was possible to recognize several contradictions between the discourses analyzed, besides pointing out what is configured as an institutional symptom. The main symptoms evidenced from the discourse analysis were: the lack of planning, the delay in internal processes and institutional development, the lack of recognition of diplomas (issued by UNILA) abroad, evasion, difficulty in carrying out the works of the university campus and the difficulties of interpersonal relationship, as well as with society and with partner institutions. It was concluded that the difficulties encountered by the university reflect the obstacles historically faced in the realization of the ideal of Latin American integration, as well as the political dimensions of institutional history and the difficulties inherent in everything that has a human dimension and, therefore, a lack of it.

The findings of Psychoanalysis provide new ways of approaching the subject, through the combination of different knowledge and practices. The intertwining of Psychoanalysis and Phenomenology provides tools to eliminate the gap between the real and the thought in the face of drug addiction in the institutional context. Institutions are currently seeking new forms of management with the aim of improving their performance and achieving results in accordance with their mission. Sensitization to humanize relationships is one of the most important aspects of this work. This one goes through the question of the guarantee of the other, in its condition of subject that has historicity. It is worth mentioning that the present study fits the institutions that have the subject of drug addiction in their daily life, such as companies, schools, hospitals, etc. The method used was a reflective narrative about works related to Freud and Lacan's Psychoanalysis and the Merleau-Ponty Phenomenology, combined with the familiar and professional experience of the researcher. We propose the formation of a team of professionals aligned to a practice that takes into account the psychic dynamics, historicity, spatiality and temporality of the subjects. In addition, this team should compose a service network linked to services inside and outside the institution. It should be noted that this network should not be reduced exclusively to health services. Faced with so many possible actions that resulted from this work, we propose a research and training project to meet the needs and demands of the institution that served as a motivating scenario for the preparation of this study for the researcher. If there is a possible conclusion, it is that research should never end in this matter; we expect this work to serve as an instrument for reflection, raising new questions; that we jointly seek new alternatives, and that we enable new forms of bonding to be rethought and constructed

Full textThis research begun by asking why education has been related more to its obstacles than to its opportunities. Why has education been seing as an event that happens with to such a difficult? To answer these questions, we used a psychoanalytic concept that tells us about the encounter of the subject of the desire with culture, which allow us to a reading of its crossings and implications for subjectivity and education. The identification of modern pedagogy to the discourse of science in the school has forged a scenario marked by segregation and intolerance for differences - despite the \'inclusion discourse\' to point the opposite. Given this situation, the subjects have been responding with their disengagement, dismating education of its conditions of possibility. The analysis of an institutional arrangement allowed us monitoring a modality of clinical response, which aims to restore responsibility and involvement, which are indispensable elements to the learnings and to the encounter with other in the social ties.

This study aimed to investigate, through clinical case studies, the strategies and challenges found in the psychotherapeutic care of five children sheltered in an Institutional Shelter in a country town of São Paulo State. The reports of these sessions were analyzed based on psychoanalysis, with a greater emphasis on the contributions of D. Winnicott. Two aspects were examined with special attention: the established clinical management and the evolution of psychotherapy in each history. The instruments used to find and read these data were: life and sheltering history of the patients/participants, presented in the registration form of the institution, and clinical material from playful psychotherapy. In four of the five cases, the time of psychotherapy was short (five to ten sessions), due to an abrupt interruption of the psychotherapeutic processes. In the only case with a longer duration (thirty sessions), there was the possibility of a therapeutic withdrawal performed progressively. Regarding the treatment results, one patient did not show significant achievements; the others demonstrated benefits from the psychotherapeutic process and exhibited improvement in symptoms or thawing of emotional maturation. The role of each action of differentiated clinical management in the setting was listed and some of them served as coping strategies of some of the challenges that were interposed. In addition to these actions, the importance of the management promoted by the social environment to shelters was evidenced. In order for this to be guaranteed, both the sheltering institution and the Judiciary are expected to commit themselves to protect children from future trauma, especially those which could be avoided by a more judicious and realistic analysis of the family circumstances in each case. Finally, it was pointed out the need to implement psychotherapy services in Shelters throughout the country, as well as psychological care programs for those who return home after sheltering. This proposition is corroborated by the obvious importance of a listening, receiving and psychological support space for the recovery of personal maturation of deeply traumatized people, as postulated byWinnicott, in addition to actively collaborating in the construction of a healthy society and, therefore, more prepared to care for their children and adolescents

The discourses produced by the policemen related to the psychic suffering, as well as the position which they occupy in their own discourses, are object of examination in this dissertation. The analysis here presented was conducted based in semi structured interviews with four Civil Policemen who had been previously conducted to be monitored in the Medical Assistance and Psychosocial Department of the Civil Police of CearÃ. Our analysis, anchored in the psychoanalytical theory, made possible to find out that our interviewees emerged from the policial group with their collective and individual signifiers and their various forms of suffering through the exteriorization of the symptoms. In our investigation it was also possible to recognize that it is impossible to pledge a direct cause and effect relation between the policial activity and the related psychic suffering. On the other hand, it is possible to assure that the psychic suffering manifests itself through various symptoms, unconsciously overdetermined, which are in intimate connection with the intervieweesâ stories of life. In relation to the intervieweesâ discursive positions in face of the related suffering, it was observed, predominantly, a hysterical discourse, which is moved by a desire of understanding. Lastly, when considering the results according to the psychoanalytical reinvention of the subject, we can guarantee that the policial institution may consist in a proper place for the psychoanalytical hearing.

Full textWith several studies trying to understand which are the changes in contemporary subjectivities, we try to define what are saying the authors that advocate a new subjectivity in today\'s times. Starting from a brief literature review on the subject, we then selected a book from each of these three authors (Joel Birman, Nahman Armony and Jean-Pierre Lebrun) and carefully analyzed them seeking to delimit, in his speeches, which places were set for this subjectivity, culture, family, psychoanalyst and so on. This analytical work was carried out according to Institutional Discourse Analysis (IDA) which allowed us to work the texts of psychoanalytic authors without having to agree with the assumptions of psychoanalysis. The analysis achieved results on two fronts: showed some of the discursive strategies used by the authors to legitimize their findings and concluded that the contemporary subject these authors is always described in a naturalized way, as a version that has something more or less than the \"classic subject\" of Freud\'s time. In the texts of Birman and Lebrun, the analysis showed that the subject now, in these speeches, no longer has what defines the \"real subject\"; while in the text Armony, the subject is outlined as the one who finally was able to develop completely, the so-called \"mild borderline\". In addition to the theoretical arguments, such conclusions are supported by the construction of a privileged place for the author: in the speeches analyzed the place of the author is a privileged speech, the place of those who know what it says, that see \"beyond appearances\", that is well read, an experienced clinician; this place more than any theoretical articulation or clinical demonstration, is the support of the statements presented in the texts

Full textThis research aims to problematize the device group from Lacanian psychoanalysis. The question with which we started was: If psychoanalysis points to the singular subject, how to work with groups devices without dissolving them in a universal? Initially, we mapped some historical elements of the emergence of the notion of group. We extracted from this that such notion is born simultaneously with the notion of the individual, both taken as totalities. Psychoanalysis, in turn, does not arise from the individual, because it is based and has as intervention goal the subject, so that the device group should also take it into account. Subsequently, the group theme is investigated in the works of S. Freud, Bion, E. Pichon-Rivière J. Lacan seeking to extract from them a collective logic. From Freud, we have a scheme in which the tendency of the group is to make dough, identifying both vertically under a master insignia placed as the Ideal Self, and horizontally among subjects starting from themselves, tending to erase their singularities through an imaginary whole group. Therewith, we see the issue of identification become a central point in the matter of groups. Thus we seek elements that could help us so that the group does not give in to imaginary effects. Faced with this, Bion brought a first contribution of the \"leaderless group\", to which the analyst does not act in the place of leader, bringing the important idea of not to complete the group; Pichon, in turn, brings the idea of interdependence of individuals stating a collective logic, since the subjects are not isolated monads. Thereafter, it was important to make use of the cartel device, organ base of Lacanian School, which points to a not complete group, since the function of the +1 is precisely not complete the group in order to mitigate its imaginary effects. Our next step was to approach the \"effects of subjects\" - as opposed to imaginary effects - from the use of clinical vignettes used on groups treatment in articulating their contribution to the Lacanian triad Imaginary, Symbolic and Real. The consideration of these three records, pointed to another way of universalizing a group as waiving significant, since what Lacan has termed as escape object to their symbolic and imaginary determinations in its identificatory and homogenizing trends. Extracted such collective logic, it is possible to indicate that, in a group, the analyst has his role anchored in the object. In addition, the analyst must consider the effects of speech that individuals have with each other, since the transfer circulates between subjects. Since the subjects in groups tend to respond to each other demands, we conclude that it\'s important the psychoanalyst to circulate the word, in a way to keep an open meaning, so no one will take the place of the Ideal I. Finally we provide a reading framework for the ambivalent group experiences: as productive experiences (determination and indeterminacy) but also unproductive (of indeterminacy and determination). Lastly, we conclude that the group device can be an important tool for clinical policy in the field of health care intervention and ethics

Full textThe research presents the construction of a methodology of institutional work with Parents Group, which includes listening, analysis and interventions based on Psychoanalysis. The Parents Group is one of the devices that make up the practice of Therapeutic Education developed at Lugar de Vida, an institution that serves children with developmental problems. This methodological approach is based on the Lacanian theory of discourse, articulated with the four psychoanalytic axes that guided the AP3 (psychoanalytic assessment of children, which was part of the National Multicenter Survey of Risk Indicators for Child Development IRDI in the Portuguese initials): 1.The Play and the Fantasy; 2. The Body and the Body Image; 3. The Recognition of Norms and the Position in Face of the Law 4. The Speech and the Language. It was found that discursive interactions occur on the child conveyed in the speech of the parents, which produce nodal points. The analysis of these nodal points indicates that they generate significants for children in treatment, producing different plots for the course of their psychic constitution and for the relationship between parents and children. In the face of contemporary demands of parents regarding the knowledge about childhood, many professionals respond to them through orientations, training techniques and methods of adaptation. This research, on the other hand, aimed at promoting a meeting place for parents and a channel of dialogue between them, including their unconscious knowledge about the child, urging them to leave the place of passivity, exclusion, failure and guilt that many experience. The results of the research suggest that this form of listening groups of parents can be transmitted to interdisciplinary teams working in institutions, not only focused on the treatment, but also to educational institutions for children, since it refers to the constitutive axes and the promoters of subjectivity and childrens overall development, including family participation. This work aims at an institutional partnership and a symbolic social co-responsibilization in the construction of social care, education and development of children

Full textThis work consists of making an institutional analysis of discourse of the text Introduction to Narcissism (Freud, 1914/2010), thus setting a research on the concept of narcissism that, taking it for its contextualization in Freud\'s work, aims at a study that considers the specificity of its emergence within the institutional framework of psychoanalysis and its impact on the body of Freudian theory. It seeks, in that sense, to think narcissism in reference not only to its content as a concept, but mostly in reference to its quality of event within the Freudian thought, so that it is possible, from the text analysis: to trace the senses acquired by the concept in relation to its context of production and its conditions of possibility; to look for the points of tension and rupture in the theory; to question the truths produced in relation to what they intended to respond. This work is limited in the field of Institutional Analysis of Discourse (Guirado, 2010), the methodological strategy that enabled the lifting of the question-title, that disposes the guiding hypotheses of the research, that delimits the analysis procedures. By paying attention to the context that is shown in the text, to how Freud introduces this concept, to the interlocutions made in this introduction, the analyses were able to configure the narcissism: as a knowledge that seems to demarcate institutional frontiers by reiterating, at the scope of legitimacy of production of psychoanalytic knowledge, the sexuality; as a knowledge that seems to place points of tension in Freudian theory (from the theory of the drives up to the conception of psyche and neurosis) precisely by the effects of the concept of narcissism as mode of enunciation; as a knowledge that seems to introduce a new way to talk/to deal with the concept of drive that gives focus to its movements of direction and location between the Self and the object, not to its quality or content , in a manner that the narcissism is placed as starting point and condition of possibility to relation, in the beginning of life, and to the formation of a censorship to the real Self, in the course of development; as a knowledge that, by the openings in Freuds discourse, presents itself in the tension between method and truth

Full textThe objective of this study is to confront two forms of treatment for autism very recognized in psychology: Psychoanalysis and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The method that instrumented the research, from formulation of their goals, was the Institutional Analysis of Discourse, Marlene Guirado. We analyzed the speeches of professionals of each approach in order to configure the place of the patient, family, and analyst. The results of the interviews, the discursive corpus of this study, were to some extent surprising: there were not only differences in how psychoanalysts and behavior analysts \"see\" the child with autism, their family, their work and the scope of the method treatment, as one might expect, considering the history of the epistemological, theoretical, and technical differences among these disciplines of knowledge, research, and professional practices. Were then traced the similarities and distinctions between speeches. Both behavior analysts as the psychoanalysts were related to the child and autism with an \"anticipated\" image given by the theory and the method that support its action. Similarly, they approximate in respect to the place assigned to the child. They distance, as to the certainty of outcomes and efficacy of therapeutic procedures; certainties regarding the planned inclusion of parents in treatment, trust shown on the scope of changes and in the objectivity with which they define points of departure and arrival for clinical work. The study also points to the institutional dimension of such treatment: the problem of gaze direction and support is a trademark of therapeutic scene and, not exactly, or only, child. ABA and Psychoanalysis seek to extend their spheres of action on autism, as their institutional object. In this game, the child, observed, interpreted, reported, there remains with no place of enunciation

Within the context of the researches about institutional sheltering, we can observe little emphasis on the adolescent?s departure from the shelter home, even in studies which focus on the emotional experience of the sheltered young people. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to investigate the emotional-affective sense attributed by sheltered adolescents to the moment of departure from the institutional shelter, having as its guiding principle the story of sheltering and departing from the shelter home. As methodological resource, we used an Interactive Narrative (IN) which consisted of a fictitious tale designed by the researcher so that the participants would create an ending for the drama presented by two adolescents that see themselves facing the possibility of one of them leaving the shelter home. Fourteen adolescents participated of this study whose frame has configured as one collective interview with 10 girls, one collective interview with 3 boys and one individual interview with 1 girl. The account of the three encounters was registered in the shape of the Transferential Narratives and, subsequently, taken for psychoanalytical analysis concurrently with the data from the IN. From this interpretation, three fields of emotional-affective sense which were able to translate dramatically the participants? experience: the field ?It?s too much for one person to handle by herself?, which presents the insufficient environment that preceded the institutionalization; ?I want to move back in with my mother?, which alludes to the desire of returning to the family of origin, usually accompanied by the idealization of the parental figures; and ?A cradle that stood in for a mother?, which reveals the ambivalence of the participants when facing the affection from their home in opposition to the safety of the shelter home. We conclude that the departure from the institutional shelter as a dislodging experience calls for the psychic elaboration of the previously experienced dislodgments, which have resulted in the aforementioned feeling of unpreparedness to leave the institution. In this context of abandonment and neglect always relived, the participants demand a tender care which combined the technical care to the affective so as to overcome the dissociations and to strengthen themselves for the future departure to the world.

The discourses produced by the policemen related to the psychic suffering, as well as the position which they occupy in their own discourses, are object of examination in this dissertation. The analysis here presented was conducted based in semi structured interviews with four Civil Policemen who had been previously conducted to be monitored in the Medical Assistance and Psychosocial Department of the Civil Police of Ceará. On the other hand, it is possible to assure that the psychic suffering manifests itself through various symptoms, unconsciously overdetermined, which are in intimate connection with the interviewees’ stories of life. In relation to the interviewees’ discursive positions in face of the related suffering, it was observed, predominantly, a hysterical discourse, which is moved by a desire of understanding. Lastly, when considering the results according to the psychoanalytical reinvention of the subject, we can guarantee that the policial institution may consist in a proper place for the psychoanalytical hearing.

Full textFrom the considerations that the terms \"subject\" and \"subjectivity\" permeate the contemporary psychoanalytic discourse and that are directly and indirectly attributed to Freud despite himself never have them conceptualized, this research aims to characterize a profile of \"subject\" derived from the Freudian discourse. The work was guided by the methodology of Institutional Analysis of Discourse, an analytic of the subjective domain which takes the discourse in his character of act and event. First, a study was conducted of the Technologies of the self, of Michel Foucault, to circumstantiate psychoanalysis as a technology that produces a \"self\", a \"subject\" this circumstantiality allowed, then, take \"subject\" and \"subjectivity\" as productions historical, geographic and analytically contextualized, not as forms of immanence or transcendence. From this assumption, we drew up an institutional analysis of discourse of Civilization and its discontents that focused not only its content, but primarily their mode of production, putting in relief the context present in the text, the interlocutions that are created, the assigned and occupied places, the expectations then mobilized, the discursive strategies used, the games of power and truth exercised, and the effects of recognition and disowning then provided. This analysis showed that Freud exerts a perspective of interiority, because the discontents that affects the civilization is understood in analogy to the psychoanalytic conception of individual development, explaining, in short, the culture through the individual prism; It showed that the theories on the instinctual life are the main support of the discourse about civilization and its discontents; it pointed out how the discursive strategies used by Freud promotes the subjectivation, on the part of the reader, of what his discourse produces as truth; and that the concept of \"individual\" is the opportunity to exercise that perspective of interiority and update the theoretical assumptions. Based on this, it was possible to characterize a subject that is universal; psychologized; determined mainly by sexuality and aggression movements; whose tonic lies on the called interior world; endowed with origins and purposes concerning instinctual life; and whose profile is delimited by the administration task of instincts, that is, whose profile constitutes between the superegoic imperatives of waiver and the margin of freedom that has to satisfy the requirements of the pleasure principle. It was also observed, in the wake of punctuated by Guirado (2010), which generally Freud naturalizes the terms of theoretical discourse, making it universalization the condition and the limit to think about the subjective domain and singularity; unlike Foucault, which understands this domain in reference to the relations of power and knowledge, in a contextualized way. From the perspective of institutional analysis of the Freudian discourse, it was concluded, finally, that the self to which the psychoanalytic technology gives ballast is an effect of the perspective exerted by Freud, which promotes the recognition of the instinctive interiority as a lens of the civilization, of a way of life and of yourself

The presence of "street kids" denounces the social exclusion of children and adolescents that wander the streets, in a trajectory that prevails transgression, violence, destructivity, through which the subject persists to exist for the Other. This thesis is a result of questionings from a clinical practice in an institution. This thesis envisions to analyze what could be related to an anchorage and enlacing in the wander of homeless adolescents, based on the traces that make them unique and detached from the universe of street kids. We propose the hypothesis that the wander, regardless of the subjective degradation and the expulsion, could constitute a movement of life and resistance, an emergence of the subject. Based on the psychoanalytic Trace of the Case, this research was guided by two clinical cases, from what constituted an interventions stumble and its effects in the listening process. Guided by the Freudian Aufhebung and the Lacanian borromean knot, we highlight a reality characterized by the fraying of time and space, a dilution of boundaries, a prevalence of the Real. The proposition of a borromean clinic places the institution as a symbolic reference; a substitute that functions, utilizing the word as a resource, as a repair to the lapses of the knot. This is about a construction that transgresses what is institutionalized about exclusion, knowledge, and established clinical practice. It aims, through an inventive act, a trajectory from the wound of the exclusion to the draft of a trace, through a symbolic nomination; a between space that promotes the knot and the social engagement; a source of anchorage for whom used to go rolling through the street.

Full textThe present dissertation aims to verify the effects of a music workshop on a group of children with developmental disorders. The goal was to establish some hypotheses related to what an attention to the dimension of musicality may provide in terms of understanding to these cases, as well as the kind of contribution it may offer in terms of treatment. Several researches have established that there is, in early childhood, a relationship of the infans with the caring other from which it is possible to infer musical qualities. Furthermore, through psychoanalytical theory, we develop the thesis that voice and music may represent a doorway to the archaic relationship between the subject and the Other, specially through the notion of invocative drive a term coined by Jacques Lacan, but which was further developed by subsequent authors. The reading of some works related to this issue has lead to a reflection on the importance of the musicality of voice, as well as the temporal synchrony present in the relationship between infans and other, to the subjects constitution. Despite the invocative power of music, the circuit of the invocative drive cannot complete itself as long as the diachronic dimension and the alternating cycle of presence/absence produce the lack that is, in the constitution of the subject, destined for the original repression. Which raises the question, first of all, if the sensibility to music is preserved in cases of autism and child psychosis and, secondly, if a therapeutic intervention based on music would produce any positive effects in the quality of the social bonds established by these children. The results obtained line up with other researches which show that the sensibility to the motherese and musicality is preserved in cases of autism. Also, the effects that the surprise inherent to music have on different children present us with a possible approach to the diagnostic hypotheses and to the orientation of intervention in the treatment of these cases. Finally, we had indications that the attention to the musical qualities present in speech or movement is fertile in work with children with developmental disorders such as autism and psychosis, whether in an institutional context or not

This qualitative study aims to use some of Frantz Fanon&rsquo
s critical insights to explore how individuals within the Health Sciences Faculty at the UCT experienced change and perceived the transformation process instituted by University management and the change taking place in the wider society. Frantz Fanon, a critical theorist born in a Martinique, university-educated in France and later employed in Algeria, wrote extensively on how the colonial condition affects the psychology of individuals, thus inter-linking psychology and politics. This study selected six individuals who had experienced the institutional context before and during the process of transformation. Data was collected by way of unstructured interview schedules. A Fanonian psychoanalytic-inspired discourse analysis was employed to analyse the data. The data showed that broader discourses influences the way people talk about phenomena. Our past still plays a role in the way we construct current realities.
