Abstract:
We study Shimura curves of PEL type in [Formula: see text] generically contained in the Prym locus. We study both the unramified Prym locus, obtained using étale double covers, and the ramified Prym locus, corresponding to double covers ramified at two points. In both cases, we consider the family of all double covers compatible with a fixed group action on the base curve. We restrict to the case where the family is one-dimensional and the quotient of the base curve by the group is [Formula: see text]. We give a simple criterion for the image of these families under the Prym map to be a Shimura curve. Using computer algebra we check all the examples obtained in this way up to genus 28. We obtain 43 Shimura curves contained in the unramified Prym locus and 9 families contained in the ramified Prym locus. Most of these curves are not generically contained in the Jacobian locus.

Abstract:
According to [H. Lange and A. Ortega, Prym varieties of triple coverings, Int. Math. Res. Notices2011(22) (2011) 5045–5075], the Prym variety of any non-cyclic étale triple cover f : Y → X of a smooth curve X of genus 2 is a Jacobian variety of dimension 2. This gives a map from the moduli space of such covers to the moduli space of Jacobian varieties of dimension 2. We extend this map to a proper map Pr of a moduli space [Formula: see text] of admissible S3-covers of genus 7 to the moduli space [Formula: see text] of principally polarized abelian surfaces. The main result is that [Formula: see text] is finite surjective of degree 10.

Abstract:
In this thesis we study Shimura subvarieties in the moduli space of complex abelian varieties. These subvarieties arise from families of Galois covers compatible with a fixed group action on the base curve such that the quotient of the base curve by the group is isomorphic to the projective line. We give a criterion for the image of these families under the Prym map to be a special subvariety and, using computer algebra, we build several Shimura subvarieties contained in the Prym loci.

Abstract:
The first goal of this Thesis is to contribute to the study of principally polarized abelian varieties (ppav), especially to the Schottky and the Torelli problems. Ppav admit a duality theory analogous to that of projective spaces, where the role played by hyperplanes in projective spaces is played by divisors representing the principal polarization. Thus, given a subvariety Y of a ppav, we can define its thetadual T(Y) as the set of divisors representing the principal polarization that contain this subvariety. This set admits a natural schematic structure (as defined by Pareschi and Popa). Jacobian and Prym varieties are classical examples of ppav constructed from curves. Besides, they are interesting because some properties of the curves involved in their construction are reflected in their geometry or in the geometry of some special subvarieties. For example, in the case of Jacobians we have the BrillNoether loci Wd ( W1 corresponds to the AbelJacobi curve) and in the case of Pryms we have the AbelPrym curve C. In chapter III, we study the schematic structure of the thetadual of the BrillNoether loci Wd and the AbelPrym curve. In the first case, we obtain with different methods, the result of Pareschi and Popa T(Wd)= Wgd1. In the case of the AbelPrym curve C, we get that T(C)=V², where V² is the second PrymBrillNoether locus with the schematic structure defined by Welters. Pareschi and Popa have proved a result for ppavs analogous to the Castelnuovo Lemma for projective spaces. That is, if (A,Θ) is a ppav of dimension g, then g+2 distinct points in general position with respect to Θ, but in special position with respect to 2Θ, have to be contained in a curve of minimal degree in A, i.e. an AbelJacobi curve. In particular, they obtain a Schottky result because A has to be a Jacobian variety and a Torelli result, because the curve is the intersection of all the divisors in |2Θ| that contain the g+2 points. In chapter IV, as Eisenbud and Harris have done in the projective Castelnuovo Lemma, we extend this result to possibly nonreduced finite schemes. The second goal of this thesis is the study of varieties of general type. Almost by definition, pluricanonical maps are the essential tool to study them. One of the main problems in this area is to find geometric or numerical conditions to guarantee that the mth pluricanonical map (for low m) induces a birational equivalence with its image. The classification of surfaces whose bicanonical map is nonbirational has attracted considerable interest among algebraic geometers. In chapter V, we give a sufficient numerical condition for the birationality of the bicanonical map of irregular varieties of arbitrary dimension. We also prove that, if X is a primitive variety, then it only admits very special fibrations to other irregular varieties. For primitive varieties we get that the following are equivalent: X is birational to a divisor Θ in an indecomposable ppav, the irregularity q(X) > dim X and the bicanonical map is nonbirational. When X is a primitive variety of general type and q(X) = dim X we prove, under certain conditions over the Stein factorization of the Albanese map, that the only possibility for the bicanonical map being nonbirational is that X is a double cover branched along a divisor in |2Θ|. These results extend to arbitrary dimension, wellknown theorems in the case of surfaces and curves.

Abstract:
Dr. Eleine Mad is Madeleine Jacobsson's spokesperson for the scientific and paranormal discoveries that arise in her worlds. She describes content, tecniques and aesthetics based on a categorization system where art is divided into different types of components and then decoded as they go. To understand the intuition's involvement in the work process, it is transformed into three separate roles by a Seeker, Collector and a Myntare(In swedish language the one who is a "myntare" -is verbally declaring a concept or term). With these roles I try to describe in what ways intuition is beneficial or devastating to the artistic work. The story of M is about a frog-like character, Delop, who leaves the home planet to seek out other worlds. In her search, Delop finds a world whose views and lifestyles differ from her experiences of "reality" as she learned to survive in it.

Abstract:
AbstractThe most efficient way to calculate strong bisimilarity is by finding the relational coarsest partition of a transition system. We provide the first linear-time algorithm to calculate strong bisimulation using parallel random access machines (PRAMs). More precisely, with n states, m transitions and $$| Act |\le m$$ | A c t | ≤ m action labels, we provide an algorithm for $$\max (n,m)$$ max ( n , m ) processors that calculates strong bisimulation in time $$\mathcal {O}(n+| Act |)$$ O ( n + | A c t | ) and space $$\mathcal {O}(n+m)$$ O ( n + m ) . The best-known PRAM algorithm has time complexity $$\mathcal {O}(n\log n)$$ O ( n log n ) on a smaller number of processors making it less suitable for massive parallel devices such as GPUs. An implementation on a GPU shows that the linear time-bound is achievable on contemporary hardware.

Abstract:
Abstract This introductory chapter sets out the key themes and arguments of the book and provides a road map for the remaining chapters. It outlines the book’s ambition to contribute to the sociological and criminological literature on technological infrastructures, borders and specific visions of Europe by portraying what we call the biobordering processes at work in the EU. Relying on what Misa and Schot, reflecting on technological infrastructures, have called the ‘hidden integration’ and ‘hidden fragmentation’ of Europe, the transnational exchange of forensic DNA data organized through the Prüm system serves as an exemplary case through which to explore the different logics of biobordering dynamics at work across the European Union. We complement an EU-level analysis with country case analysis of modes of biobordering that emphasize the legal, scientific, technical, political and ethical dimensions related to the governance and uses of biometric technologies both at a national level and in a transnational collaboration.

Abstract:
We present a new method to improve the representational power of the features in Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). By studying traditional image processing methods and recent CNN architectures, we propose to use positional information in CNNs for effective exploration of feature dependencies. Rather than considering feature semantics alone, we incorporate spatial positions as an augmentation for feature semantics in our design. From this vantage, we present a Position-Aware Recalibration Module (PRM in short) which recalibrates features leveraging both feature semantics and position. Furthermore, inspired by multi-head attention, our module is capable of performing multiple recalibrations where results are concatenated as the output. As PRM is efficient and easy to implement, it can be seamlessly integrated into various base networks and applied to many position-aware visual tasks. Compared to original CNNs, our PRM introduces a negligible number of parameters and FLOPs, while yielding better performance. Experimental results on ImageNet and MS COCO benchmarks show that our approach surpasses related methods by a clear margin with less computational overhead. For example, we improve the ResNet50 by absolute 1.75% (77.65% vs. 75.90%) on ImageNet 2012 validation dataset, and 1.5%~1.9% mAP on MS COCO validation dataset with almost no computational overhead. Abstract:
Abstract In order to reduce the harm to public safety caused by the loss of radioactive sources. A source searching method is proposed to locate orphan gamma source in the environment with obstacles and radiation shielding. The method is divided into two parts: predicting the probability of a radioactive source by Gaussian process regression (GPR) and path planning for the mobile robot using the probabilistic roadmap (PRM) method. The mean function and covariance function of the Gaussian process need to be selected in advance and the hyperparameters are calculated in the training process. Predicted values of GPR are given in the form of Gaussian distribution, which make us able to calculate the probability that there is a radioactive source in the grid and construct a probability map to guide the robot. The path connecting the start grid to the target grid is planned by the PRM method in a very short time, the cost function of A* algorithm in the query phase controls the pattern of the robot. At the beginning of the search, the robot prefers to move to areas with more information, after data above the threshold is detected, the robot switches to the tracking mode, accesses to the radioactive source rapidly. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified in a simulation experiment in which a 10m × 10m radiation field with five walls is simulated. The searches of gamma point source are all successfully realized in 5 different cases and compared with the total number of discrete grids, the method uses only a small part of the grid data to realize the location. Overall, the results show that the proposed method is efficient for searching and locating orphan radioactive source.
