Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract. The year 2010 was characterized by devastating flooding in central and eastern Europe, including Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. This study focuses on floods that occurred during the summer of 2010 in the Prut River basin, which has a high percentage of hydrotechnical infrastructure. Strong floods occurred in eastern Romania on the Prut River, which borders the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, and the Siret River. Atmospheric instability from 21 June to 1 July 2010 caused remarkable amounts of rain, with rates of 51.2 mm/50 min and 42.0 mm/30 min. In the middle Prut basin, there are numerous ponds that help mitigate floods as well as provide water for animals, irrigation, and so forth. The peak discharge of the Prut River during the summer of 2010 was 2310 m3 s−1 at the Rădăuţi-Prut gauging station. High discharges were also recorded on downstream tributaries, including the Baseu, Jijia, and Miletin. High discharges downstream occurred because of water from the middle basin and the backwater from the Danube (a historic discharge of 16 300 m3 s−1). The floods that occurred in the Prut basin in the summer of 2010 could not be controlled completely because the discharges far exceeded foreseen values.

Abstract:
The main objective of this thesis is the verification of the buckling strength of the composite compression members which were made from high-strength materials. This thesis is divided into four main chapters which are interconnected. The first chapter summarizes the current state of the problem of the compression members. The basis of this part is the elementary theories and researches, the task of this text is attempted to understand and obtain normative procedures which are important for practical use. The second part deals with the theoretical analysis of composite column, mainly with the examination of the individual effects on the buckling strength. The result of the first and the second parts is analytical algebraic equations which determine the buckling strength of the member. The third part contains the numerical analysis, which leads to create a numerical model of the compression column. The numerical model is used for the verification of the theoretical analysis and for the investigation of the behaviour of the column loaded by axial force. The last part deals with the experimental verification of the previous analyses. There are tested various types of the composite columns, which were made of steel with a yield strength up to 455 MPa and of the concrete with a cube compression strength up to 102 MPa. Experimental results confirmed the high reliability of centrally loaded column and every tested columns failed by flexural buckling. The final step is evaluation and comparison of the results obtained from previous four parts. It was founded that design criteria for centrally loaded steel-concrete column are too conservative and design relationships doesn´t use the positive properties of high-strength materials for economic design.

Abstract:
Using Additive manufacturing it is possible to manufacture complicated components, that cannot be manufactured using conventional methods. The typical example is the lattice structure. Fabrication of these structures is complicated, and it is different from the fabrication of bulk parts. Using numerical simulation which can reflect process parameters it is possible to analyze the thermal behaviour of vertical and inclined struts fabrication. Results show that the diameter of struts influences weld track width. This influence is caused by preheating the powder material by previous scanning paths. The final geometry of inclined struts is made in more scanning layers. In this work influence of the start and endpoint of trajectory is described.

Abstract:
This thesis is focused on creating polymer lattice struts without any necessary support in full length using robotic 3D printing. The aim of the thesis is to find suitable process parameters and printing strategies with respect to the accuracy of the polymer struts. A statistical model of effects of individual process parameters has been produced to achieve stated objectives. The model enables finding optimal process parameters. The printing strategies for thus established process parameters are tested to increase the accuracy of the finished print and the quality of the bonds between individual struts. The accuracy assessment is executed using optical 3D metrology. The maximum deviation from the nominal shape 0.54mm has been accomplished using discovered process parameters and printing strategies.

Abstract:
Transparent and subtle structures are features of modern architecture. Structural glass is constructional material that provides to realize architect's visions and ideas. Glass as a constructional material is more often used as a material for primary load-bearing structures. Realization of safe, reliable and economic glass structure is real challenge for structural engineers because of absence of standards for designing of glass members and elements. Compressed members (columns), bended members (beams) and members loaded by compression and bending (beam-columns) were analysed in the frame of the doctoral thesis whereby the emphasis is being placed on the lack of stability – flexural buckling, lateral-torsional buckling and flexural-lateral-torsional buckling. Measuring of shape and amplitude of initial geometrical imperfections is a part of doctoral thesis. The theoretical analysis describes the behaviour of the member by means of solving the differential equations. The solution according to the second order theory developed for metal members is applied on structural laminated glass members with use of effective cross-sectional characteristics. Numerical analysis is focused on the use of commonly available software based on finite element method in order to predict the load-bearing resistance of laminated glass members. Actual behaviour of laminated and monolithic structural glass members was found within experimental program. The correctness of FEM model and analytical solutions were evaluated by comparing with test results. The goal of the doctoral thesis was determine of buckling curves for calculation of flexural buckling and lateral-torsional buckling resistances by the same calculation procedure as for metal members. Because of small number of experimentally tested specimens the Monte Carlo simulation was performed.

Abstract:
Dissertation focuses on strengthening of axially loaded steel members strengthened under load. Strengthening under load using welding is time and financially efficient. Plastic design can be used for members without stability problems. However, the design of members susceptible to buckling is difficult and opinions of researchers differ on this matter and there are only several experiments. The dissertation is focused on strengthening under load of members with selected cross-sections susceptible to flexural buckling. It is necessary to check the resistance of the base member weakened by the elevated temperatures caused by welding. The preload and welding – residual stress and deformations – must be taken into account for the determination of the buckling resistance of the member strengthened under load. The aim of this dissertation is to provide the load resistance of selected compressed members strengthened under load. Author performed experiments on members with the H and L shaped cross-sections and seamless tubes. Other experiments were performed on members with H shaped cross-section and rectangular hollow sections to determine the resistance of base member during welding. These served to validate numerical models which helped to increase the number of specimens for statistical evaluation. Analytical models to determine the load resistances of the base member during welding and the strengthened member were developed using experiments from literature and author’s experiments and numerical models. The simplified model is conservative and suitable for practical design. The complex model is suitable for scientific purpose and it provides both deformation and load resistance using modified imperfection factor. It provides a good agreement with the experiments. Doctoral thesis also includes practical recommendations for design and execution of strengthening under load using welding.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis deals with the subject of slenderness bars’ stability assessment, especially in the steel structures. Before the assessment of bars in the frame constructions, we search for the influence of the computational model’s settings on the final result. The initial geometrical imperfections are examined on the model of Euler’s bar. The influence of the rigidity of girders on the poles’ buckling length is examined on the basic frame construction. The buckling lengths are assessed in the comparison with the figures we got from the statistical tables and the computational software. The influence of construction’s initial tilt and its replacement by the system of outer forces is examined on the frame structure. Three-hinged frame structure with variable cross-section member is designed then and the influence of non-linear calculations on the inner forces is studied. In the complex frame assessment, the influence of the number of parts of variable cross-section member on the bars’ buckling length is examined.

Abstract:
The systematization, generalization, estimation of the variability of time series of the mean annual water runoff of rivers in of the Prut and Siret basins has been carried out, and its cyclic structure has been revealed. For this purpose, a database of average annual discharges water with 12 of hydrological observing stations on the rivers in of the Prut and Siret basins from the beginning of observations to 2015 have been created. Number of years under observation by the annual runoff values for river Prut near city of Chernivtsi is 121. Their representativeness and homogeneity for practical calculations has been evaluated. To identify and formalize the cyclic structure of time series of the mean annual water runoff of rivers in of the Prut and Siret basins used the methods of mathematical statistics and theory of random functions: a function of mathematical expected value; a function of dispersion values or standard deviation; probability distribution function; autocorrelation function. Also have been involved different of the standard mathematical criteria (criteria homogeneity, criteria of the series and of the longest series), integral curves of the differences. As a result, the structure of cyclic oscillations is revealed of the mean annual water runoff of rivers in the Prut and Siret basins and that is what made it possible to provide forecast estimates until 2050.

With a total area of approximately 14,770 km2, which makes up 43.6% of the country's surface, DPBS DRB is characterized by modest water resources. Total surface water resources make up about 3.39 km3 / year (25.32% of the Republic of Moldova's water resources). In the multiannual leakage of both Prut and internal rivers from Prut - Nistru, several cycles with different leakage rates are recorded, a phenomenon probably influenced by the cyclicality of solar activity.

Abstract:
In their paper “Combining Systems Dynamics and Ethics: Towards More Science?” Erik Pruyt and Jan Kwakkel argue that ethics ought to play a larger role in systems dynamics and vice versa (2007). Including ethics, they contend, will add sensitivity to current systems models as well as provide guidance on how to achieve best outcomes; with respect to both efficiency and flourishing (Pruyt & Kwakkel, 2007). At first blush, such a cross pollination promises to add much needed depth of analysis to systems modeling and a higher degree of precision in ethical analyses. Not surprisingly, however, achieving such outcomes is more complex than it initially appears. Indeed, the quest for additional precision in ethical analysis is not a new one to philosophers and ethicists. The problem remains, in many ways, intractable. In Part I of this paper, the authors expand on Pruyt and Kwakkel’s thesis by examining specific insights and tools that can and should be incorporated into systems dynamics modeling. Emphasis will be placed on the mechanics of this inclusion and the resultant implications. Part II, then, focuses on how systems dynamics tools like causal loop modeling and behavior-over-time graphs can be incorporated into ethical analyses in a non-arbitrary manner. Finally, in Part III of the paper, the authors briefly discuss the ramifications of Parts I and II for engineering education; both among students and practicing engineers. The authors argue that both directions of the cross pollination have merit (especially the inclusion of ethical considerations in systems dynamics modeling) and ought to be developed further.

Abstract:
The research is dedicated to assessment of rivers and their resources from the North Development Region of the Republic of Moldova. Main methods used in the study are the statistical ones utilized for estimation of main hydrological characteristics, monitored at gauging stations of national monitoring network. Also, GIS technologies were applied in order to evaluate main rivers characteristics and to perform spatial representation of the area. Main rivers of the pilot area are the Dniester and the Prut transboundary rivers. Analysis of their time series shows that flow is slowly decreasing. The measurements of the flow of main tributaries of the Dniester and Prut rivers show a flow slow increase in the northern part and a slow decrease in the southern part of the region. These rivers do not represent big economic value in comparison with large rivers and groundwater resources.

Abstract:
Research focuses on the objective assessment of maximum river runoff and its multi-annual variability in the basin of Tysa and Prut rivers within Ukraine. For this purpose, a database of maximum riverine water runoff (the highest daily values per year and the largest for one of the terms of daily measurement periods) from 36 measuring stations were created. The series were formed from the beginning of observations until 2015 and in most of them, the length is 50-70 years. Their representativeness for practical calculations has been evaluated. The main statistical parameters of the maximum runoff are determined – norms of water discharge and maximum specific discharges, coefficients of variation and skewness. A comparison was made between the maximum daily runoff values and their corresponding peak maxima. This is especially important for mountain rivers to calculate and predict dangerous peaks maxima on rivers. The multi-annual variability of the maximum runoff of rivers was examined by integral curves of differences, autocorrelation, and spectral functions. The result revealed the structure of cyclical fluctuations and an assessment of trends in the current period.
