Abstract:
L’étude a eu pour objectif d’évaluer l’efficacité d’un traitement combiné à base de progestérone intravaginale sur l’induction de l’oestrus de femelles croisées au Cameroun. Un total de 116 vaches Goudali (Bos indicus) x Charolaises (Bos taurus) ayant mis bas au moins une fois, sans antécédent pathologique, avec une note d’état corporel supérieure à 2, ont été sélectionnées dans des élevages du département de la Vina (arrondissement de Nyambaka). Elles ont été rassemblées dans un ranch et réparties en lots de 10 animaux. Le protocole d’induction et de synchronisation des chaleurs a consisté en la pose d’un dispositif intravaginal à base de progestérone (Prid Delta) pendant huit à neuf jours. Vingt-quatre heures avant son retrait, une injection de cinq millilitres de prostaglandine F2alpha (Dinoprost, Enzaprost) a été administrée. Au moment du retrait, 500 UI de gonadotropine chorionique équine ont été injectées. Cinquante-six heures après le retrait, l’insémination a été effectuée à heure fixe avec de la semence de taureaux Gyr et Brahman. Les taux d’induction de l’oestrus et de synchronisation, de rétention du dispositif intravaginal, de gravidité en première insémination, de fécondité, et d’avortement ont été respectivement de 100 %, 100 %, 56,0 %, 51,7 %, et 4,3 % (en % des vaches traitées). Le Prid Delta s’est révélé efficace pour l’induction des chaleurs et l’obtention de gravidités chez les vaches Goudali x Charolaises.

Abstract:
Quinze vaches zébus Azawak ont été soumises à deux protocoles de synchronisation de l’oestrus. Les concentrations plasmatiques de LH et le pourcentage des femelles ayant exhibé un comportement d’oestrus ont été répertoriés. Le premier traitement de synchronisation (T1, n = 9) a été effectué avec des implants sous-cutanés de norgestomet placés sous la peau de l’oreille pendant 10 jours. Le traitement a été complété par des injections de valérate d’oestradiol, de prostaglandine F2α et de pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG). Le deuxième protocole (T2, n = 6) a consisté en deux injections de prostaglandine F2α à 11 jours d’intervalle, suivies d’une injection de PMSG deux jours après la deuxième injection de prostaglandine. Des échantillons de sang ont été prélevés à trois heures d’intervalle pendant cinq jours après le retrait de l’implant (T1) ou l’injection de PMSG (T2) pour mesurer les taux de LH. Le taux d’oestrus induit a été plus élevé chez les vaches du groupe T2, mais cette différence n’a pas été significative. En général, le temps observé entre la fin du traitement et le début de l’oestrus a été plus court chez les femelles traitées au norgestomet (35,9 ± 3,9 h) que chez celles traitées à la prostaglandine (49,5 ± 5,8 h). Sept sur les neuf femelles traitées au norgestomet et seulement deux sur les six traitées à la prostaglandine ont présenté un pic de LH. L’intervalle moyen entre la fin des traitements et le pic de LH a eu tendance à être plus long chez les femelles traitées à la prostaglandine que chez celles traitées au norgestomet. Une femelle a présenté des concentrations de LH anormalement élevées après le retrait de l’implant. Toutefois, aucun pic de LH n’a été observé pendant la période de suivi.

Abstract:
L’étude a eu pour objectif d’évaluer deux protocoles de synchronisation des chaleurs à base de prostaglandine F2α (alfaprostol 2 mg), l’un court à injection unique et insémination artificielle (IA) sur chaleurs observées, l’autre long à double injection à 11 jours d’intervalle et IA à temps fixe 80 heures après la seconde injection. Elle a porté sur 72 vaches et 12 génisses de race Goudali, toutes cyclées. Les semences utilisées ont été celles des taureaux Bruns Suisses, Aubracs et Gascons. Le taux d’induction des chaleurs a été de 100 %, avec un délai de 2 à 11 jours postinjection pour la venue des chaleurs en protocole court. Après un minimum de 60 jours post-IA, une palpation transrectale a été effectuée, ainsi qu’un suivi des gravidités jusqu’aux vêlages. Les taux de gravidité, d’avortement et de vêlage ont été respectivement de 17,8 %, 13,3 % et 15,4, soit respectivement pour les protocoles court et long 30,8 %, 16,6 % et 25,6 %, et 6,7 %, 0 % et 6,6 % (p < 0,05). La durée moyenne de gravidité a été de 290 ± 4,5 jours, soit respectivement pour les protocoles court et long 290 ± 4,5 jours et 289,7 ± 5,8 jours (p = 0,181). Le poids moyen des veaux à la naissance a été de 22,9 ±1,4 kg, soit respectivement pour les protocoles court et long 22,9 ± 1,6 kg et 23,0 ± 1,0 kg (p = 0,319). La sex-ratio (% de mâles par rapport à la population totale) a été de 69,2 % (p = 0,6). Les animaux présentant une durée post-partum entre 5 et 10 mois, dont l’IA avait été pratiquée dans le corps de l’utérus et entre 16 et 17 heures après la détection des chaleurs, ont présenté une meilleure fertilité (p < 0,05).

Abstract:
The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of pre-synchronisation on the occurrence of the oestrus and pregnancy rate after fixed time artificial insemination (FTAI) in synchronised ewes during the anoestrous season. Kivircik ewes (n = 84) were randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups with (PRE; n = 42) or without (SYN; n = 42) pre-synchronisation. In the SYN group, the ewes were subjected to a 7-d short-term protocol (P4 insertion-6d-PGF2α-1d-P4 removal + eCG). In the PRE group, the same short-term protocol as in the SYN group was applied with 7 days apart for a pre-synchronised synchronisation protocol. A cervical FTAI was performed with fresh semen at 54 h after sponge removal. At the beginning of the synchronisation protocol, the oestrous response (66.7% vs. 0.0%) and cyclicity rates (64.3% vs. 14.3%) based on progesterone (P4) were higher in the PRE group compared to those in the SYN group, respectively (P &lt; 0.01). However, the oestrous response after synchronisation was lower within 96 h (57.1% vs. 95.2%; P &lt; 0.01) in the PRE group compared to that in the SYN group. Although the pregnancy rate after the FTAI was significantly (P &lt; 0.05) lower in the PRE group (14.3%) than the SYN group (35.7%), the overall pregnancy rate after natural mating was not different (95.2%) between the groups. In conclusion, the pre-synchronisation decreased the oestrous response leading to a lower pregnancy rate after the FTAI in the synchronised ewes during the anoestrous season. Thus, attention should be paid to two consecutive administrations of eCG in a pre-synchronisation and synchronisation protocol in ewes.

Abstract:
In seasonal block calving herds reproductive efficiency can have a significant impact on productivity and profitability. Within this it is key that the nulliparous heifers calve down promptly in the block, and if these heifers can have heifer calves it will expediate genetic gain. There is extensive research into the conception rates of differing protocols and the literature is reviewed to support the choice of protocol used in the subsequent case study. The case study uses a 6-day progesterone protocol with two injections of prostaglandin F2α and sexed semen; it demonstrated acceptable conception rates as well as the variability that can occur between different bulls' semen straws. Finally, the case study assesses the costs and benefits of the synchronisation programme and concludes a cost benefit of £88.55 per heifer.

Depuis 1992, l'équipe telesia, de l'INRIA Rocquencourt intègre les multiples aspects du multimédia anime sur les postes de travail connectés en réseau. Elle anime régulièrement sur le réseau Internet et le fmbone les diffusions des séminaires Aristote qui se déroulent dans le cadre du collège de l'école polytechnique. Cette activité d'expérimentation in situ, par son caractère régulier et par l'approche d'activité de métier, est un contexte rare pour l'étude et le développement des connaissances sur le travail coopératif et les technologies de support. Elle a permis de promouvoir le réseau Renater, les plaques régionales, en démontrant la validité des techniques de l'Internet pour la synchronisation des activités humaines. La nécessité de la multi-diffusion dans l'organisation de l'activité de groupe a permis de coordonner le déploiement du fmbone, sous l'impulsion de l'association Aristote et avec les moyens techniques et humains de l'INRIA. Cette conjonction de moyens, et d'expérimentations in situ ont impacte fortement les choix d'intégration et de développement de l'application telesia. Cette thèse présente, à travers cette forte implication dans l'expérimentation, une analyse des moyens de coordination, de synchronisation des activités humaines en réseau. Abstract:
L'objectif de cette thèse est d'étudier la mise en œuvre à faible complexité et l'efficacité énergétique de systèmes coopératifs dans les réseaux de capteurs sans fil. La synchronisation temporelle est cruciale pour cette mise en œuvre. Nous proposons un schéma de synchronisation au niveau de la couche physique qui introduit une augmentation modérée de la complexité des calculs et de l'occupation mémoire. Le schéma proposé offre de bonnes performances en termes de taux d'erreur en présence d'une erreur initiale de synchronisation et est facile à implémenter au niveau des nœuds. Nous proposons également une stratégie d'allocation de puissance optimale pour les communications coopératives dans les réseaux de capteurs sans fil. Pour une contrainte de probalité d'erreur, elle contribue à réduire la puissance de transmission totale dans le cas d'un canal de Rayleigh. En outre, en l'absence de lien direct entre les nœuds source et de destination, nous proposons deux stratégies coopératives efficaces en énergie. Une démarche heuristique pour sélectionner les nœuds coopératifs et choisir la communication coopérative appropriée est proposée. Par ailleurs, nous analysons l'efficacité énergétique de trois protocoles de contrôle d'erreur dans les réseaux de capteurs sans fil, dans le cas d'un système SISO avec canal à bruit blanc additif gaussien pour les communications à courte distance et d'un système MISO avec canal Rayleigh pour les communications à longue distance. En fonction du taux de code, nous proposons des seuils sur le gain de codage permettant de rendre les protocoles de contrôle d'erreurs plus efficaces en énergie
In this dissertation, we explore the energy efficiency and low complex implementation of cooperative schemes in wireless sensor networks. Considering the requirement on signal arrival time synchronization, we proposed a physical layer synchronization scheme for the distributed MISO cooperative communication in wireless sensor networks. The proposed scheme is adequate for the cooperative communication but introduces less complexity to the network design. It provides better BER performance in the existence of initial synchronization error. According to the simulation results, it is supposed to be practically implemented in the sensor nodes. Upon this assumption, optimal power allocation strategies for AF cooperative relaying scheme and distributed MISO cooperative scheme are proposed for cooperative communication in wireless sensor networks. With a given requirement on BER performance, they help to minimize the total transmit power in Rayleigh fading channel. Moreover, without direct link between the source and destination nodes, we proposed two energy efficient cooperative strategies to incorporate the AF cooperative relaying and distributed MISO cooperative schemes. A heuristic policy to select the cooperative nodes and choose the appropriate cooperative strategy is derived. Furthermore, we analyzed the energy efficiency of three error control protocols considering SISO AWGN for short distance communication and MISO Rayleigh fading for long distance communication. We proposed thresholds of the coding gain for various code rates to make the hybrid ARQ protocol more energy efficient

Abstract:
Le développement des technologies de réseaux de capteurs incite les industries à envisager des alternatives réduisant les coûts et la complexité tout en améliorant la fiabilité. Parmi les solutions sans fil actuelles, la technologie LP-WPAN IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee dispose des mécanismes et des garanties nécessaires pour une utilisation industrielle. Nous proposons des mécanismes de synchronisation entièrement déterministe permettant l'utilisation du standard IEEE 802.15.4 en mode balisé dans un réseau maillé, ainsi qu'une méthode de routage adaptative « AODV en » pour les messages transmis dans un réseau étendu. En premier lieu, nous analysons la technologie IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee, plus particulièrement sa capacité à conserver son comportement déterministe et économe en énergie dans une architecture de réseau maillé. Cette étude met en évidence plusieurs insuffisances du standard. Notre contribution consiste à palier à ces manques par une synchronisation centralisée réactive aux changements de topologie, esquivant les collisions de balises et de GTS. Ces modifications seront apportées au niveau de la sous-couche MAC. En second lieu, aucun des protocoles de routage (couche 3 du modèle ISO) actuellement les plus utilisés, ne prennent en compte simultanément les critères indispensables au contexte des communications dans un environnement industriel à fortes contraintes sur la consommation et sur le temps. Nous proposons un mécanisme de routage réactif adaptatif recherchant les routes optimisant la durée de vie des noeuds du réseau contraints énergétiquement, et basé sur l'optimisation conjointe du délai et de la consommation. Pour cela, nous avons analysé et évalué la consommation de chacun des noeuds sans fil autonomes utilisant le standard. Nous avons ainsi proposé des informations de délai et de niveau de charge de la batterie de chacun des noeuds, prises en considération dans notre mécanisme de routage adaptatif. L'ensemble de nos propositions sont validées en utilisant diverses méthodes dont les réseaux de Petri temporisés, la simulation et le prototypage. Les résultats obtenus sont exposés à la suite de chacune de nos contributions.

Nous développons une méthode de modélisation et de validation adaptée aux système parallèles structurés en couches hiérarchiques. Nous définissons deux notions : la concordance de modèle prouve que le modèle possède bien les propriétés dégagées par les spécifications; l'adéquation de service valide le protocole par rapport à son service. Nous appliquons notre méthode à la modélisation du protocole de télécommunication de niveau Transport (la couche 4 d'après la norme ISO sur l'interconnexion des systèmes ouverts). Nous étudions tout particulièrement la gestion de désynchronisations du Service de la couche Réseau, et le contrôle de flux avec réquisition de crédit du protocole de la couche Transport. Nous utilisons les réseaux de Petri à prédicats pour décrire le modèle du service rendu par le couche Réseau sous-jacente et nous en servir pour construire le modèle du protocole de ma couche Transport. nous prouvons que la notion d'abstraction peut s'étendre aux réseaux de Petri à prédicats. La preuve du déroulement correct du protocole est apportée en utilisant les invariants issus du modèle.

There exists several inter-sender synchronisation algorithms today, some of these requires globally synchronised clocks. Exactly how the clocks are going to be synchronised are generally not mentioned. This thesis aims to investigate how the choice of clock synchronising protocol affects these kinds of synchronisation algorithms. Tests have been conducted with NTP and PTP on a rudimentary inter-sender synchronisation algorithm. Results shows that there is little difference between protocols and the choice between them should be done on what constraint each protocol introduces. However if performance is extremely important there is some benefits to choosing a better clock synchronisation protocol.

Le progrès technologique offre désormais de plus en plus aux utilisateurs divers équipements connectés et intelligents. En conséquence, la gestion des données entre ces équipements a fait l’objet d’ un nombre croissant d’études. Les applications déjà proposées sont principalement basées sur des solutions propriétaires dites solutions privées ou fermées. Toutefois, cette stratégie a toujours montré ses insuffisances en termes de problèmes de sécurité, de coût, de simplicité pour les développeurs et de transparence des solutions. Migrant vers des solutions standardisées, HTML5 propose de nouvelles fonctionnalités pour répondre aux exigences des entreprises et des utilisateurs. L’objectif principal est de mettre à la disposition des développeurs web un langage simple pour la mise en œuvre des applications concurrentes à moindre coût. Ces applications ne sont pas liées ni aux dispositifs utilisés ni aux logiciels installés. Trois contributions font l’objet de nos travaux. Dans la première partie, nous proposons un Coffre Fort Client basé sur les APIs HTML5 de stockage. Tout d’abord, nous commençons par le renforcement de la sécurité de ces API pour fournir une base sécurisée à notre Coffre Fort Client. Dans la deuxième contribution, nous proposons un protocole de synchronisation appelé SyncDS qui est caractérisé par son efficacité avec une consommation minimale des ressources. Nous traitons enfin les problèmes de sécurité, et nous nous concentrons principalement sur le contrôle d’accès dans le cas de partage des données tout en respectant les exigences des Coffres Forts
Due to technological advancements, people are constantly manipulating multiple connected and smart devices in their daily lives. Cross-device data management, therefore, remains the concern of several academic and industrial studies. The proposed frameworks are mainly based on proprietary solutions called private or closed solutions. This strategy has shown its deficiency on security issues, cost, developer support and customization. In recent years, however, the Web has faced a revolution in developing standardized solutions triggered by the significant improvements of HTML5. With this new version, innovative features and APIs are introduced to follow business and user requirements. The main purpose is to provide the web developer with a vendor-neutral language that enables the implementation of competing application with lower cost. These applications are related neither to the used devices nor to the installed software. The main motivation of this PhD thesis is to migrate towards the adoption of standardized solutions to ensure secure and reliable cross-device data management in both the client and server side. There is already a proposed standardized Cloud Digital Safe on the server side storage that follows the AFNOR specification while there is no standardized solution yet on the client-side. This thesis is focused on two main areas : 1) the proposal of a standardized Client Digital Safe where user data are stored locally and 2) the synchronization of these data between the Client and the Cloud Digital Safe and between the different user devices. We contribute in this research area in three ways. First, we propose a Client Digital Safe based on HTML5 Local Storage APIs. We start by strengthening the security of these APIs to be used by our Client Digital Safe. Second, we propose an efficient synchronization protocol called SyncDS with minimum resource consumption that ensures the synchronization of user data between the Client and the Cloud Digital Safe. Finally, we address security concerns, in particular, the access control on data sharing following the Digital Safe requirements

Abstract:
The response of South African Mutton Merino (SAMM) ewes to synchronisation of oestrus and fertility following different protocols and artificial insemination (AI) were studied using data collected during the autumn breeding season. The study was aimed at comparing the effect of long and short-term progesterone (P4) treatment and their combination with either equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) or the ram effect (Ram) on oestrous response and fertility of ewes. Ewes (n = 78) were randomly allocated to four treatment groups in a 2×2 factorial design and primed with controlled internal drug release (CIDR) for a 9 (short) or 14 d (long) period. At CIDR withdrawal, ewes in each group received either a single intramascular injection of equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG; 300 IU) or exposure to the ram effect; eCGshort (n=19), Ramshort (n=21), eCGlong (n=19) and Ramlong (n=19). Oestrous behaviour was monitored from 12-84 h post CIDR withdrawal and ultrasound performed at 48 h post CIDR withdrawal to examine number and diameter of follicles. Artificial insemination (AI) was performed twice at 48 and 60 h post CIDR withdrawal with fresh undiluted semen using the cervical method. Non-return rate (NRR) was monitored 15-21 d post AI while pregnancy diagnosis was performed by transrectal ultrasound at 35 d post AI and confirmed by lambing data. Oestrous behaviour was observed in 98.7% of all synchronised ewes, with no significant difference between treatment groups. Overall, CR and the proportion of ewes lambing to synchronised oestrus were (74.4% and 52.6%, respectively). There was no significant difference between treatment groups in oestrus response, onset of oestrus, duration of oestrus, number of follicles, diameter of the largest follicle, NRR, conception rate (CR), AI to lambing interval, twinning rate and number of lambs born. When data were pooled, CIDR-14 d protocols showed a significantly shorter interval to onset of oestrus (24.9 ± 1.6 versus 30.8 ± 2.1, P < 0.05) than CIDR-9 d protocols but there was no difference (P > 0.05) between eCG and Ram protocols when data were pooled. CIDR-9 d protocols resulted in a significantly higher CR (85.0% versus 63.2%, P < 0.05 ) than CIDR-14 d protocols when data were pooled but there was no difference (P > 0.05) in CR between eCG and Ram protocols. Mean AI to lambing interval was 158.2 ± 1.2 d, ranging from 147-154 d and 166-186 d post AI. The proportion of ewes lambing to synchronised oestrus per treatment group were (eCGshort (52.6%), Ramshort (42.9%), eCGlong (63.2%), Ramlong (52.6%), P > 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the 4 protocols investigated were effective in synchronising oestrus with similar response to synchronisation of oestrus and fertility between treatment groups. Of the 4 protocols, the Ramlong protocol offers the benefit of reduced cost, reduced hormonal use and adequate fertility compared to other protocols. In addition, the cost of labour involved is foregone and a safer product is disposed of to the environment compared to use of the eCGlong and Ramshort or eCGshort protocols respectively.

Abstract:
The complexity associated with development of networked video games creates a need for tools for verifying a consistent player experience. Some networked games achieve consistency through the lockstep protocol, which requires identical execution of sent commands for players to stay synchronised. In this project a method for testing networked multiplayer lockstep games for synchronisation problems related to nondeterministic behaviour is formulated and evaluated. An integrated fuzzing AI is constructed which tries to cause desynchronisation in the tested game and generate data for analysis using log files. Scripts are used for performing semi-automated test runs and parsing the data. The results show that the test system has potential for finding synchronisation problems if the fuzzing AI is used in conjunction with the regular AI in the tested game, but not for finding the origins of said problems.
Komplexiteten förenad med utveckling av nätverksuppkopplade dataspel skapar ett behov av verktyg för att verifiera en konsistent spelarupplevelse. Vissa nätverksspel hålls konsistenta med hjälp av lockstep-protokollet, vilket kräver identisk exekvering av skickade kommandon för att spelarna ska hållas synkroniserade. I detta projekt formuleras och evalueras en metod för att testa om nätverksuppkopplade flerspelarspel lider av synkroniseringsproblem relaterade till ickedeterministiskt beteende. En integrerad fuzzing-AI konstrueras som försöka orsaka desynkronisering i det testade spelet och generera data för analys med hjälp av loggfiler. Skript används för att utföra halvautomatiserade testkörningar och tolka data. Resultaten visar att testsystemet har potential för att hitta synkroniseringsproblem om fuzzing-AI:n används tillsammans med den vanliga AI:n i det testade spelet, men inte för att hitta de bakomliggande orsakerna till dessa problem.

Current-generation Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG), such as World of Warcraft, Eve Online, and Second Life are mainly built on distributed client-server architectures with server allocation based on sharding, static geographical partitioning, dynamic micro-cell scheme, or optimal server for placing a virtual region according to the geographical dispersion of players. This paper reviews various approaches on data replication and region partitioning. Management of areas of interest (field of vision) is discussed, which reduces processing load dramatically by updating players only with those events that occur within their area of interest. This can be managed either through static geographical partitioning on the basis of the assumption that players in one region do not see/interact with players in other regions, or behavioural modelling based on players’ behaviours. The authors investigate data storage and synchronisation methods for MMOG databases, mainly on relational databases. Several attempts of peer to peer (P2P) architectures and protocols for MMOGs are reviewed, and critical issues such as cheat prevention on P2P MMOGs are highlighted.
