Full textThis thesis focuses on the analysis of the rhetorical organization of Giorgio Manganelli's prose, investigating the rhythmical system by which the author is able to create a syntactic flow that escapes the genre classifications. According to Manganelli, the language is only organization of itself, and therefore the writing turns around a empty narrative center, in order to disguise the absence of necessity. He is a rhetorician with an extraordinary compositional skill that allows him to stage the ambiguities inherent in the rhetoric. To approach this analysis it seemed appropriate to use the critique du rythme that Henri Meschonnic designed starting from the ideas of Emile Benveniste on the Heraclitean concept of rhythm, as it provides a flexible and dynamic perspective. Meschonnic considers the rhythm not as a metrical scheme but as an organization of meaning in discourse, aimed at the signifiance inside the text. In this perspective, we tried to build a path through Manganelli' works, in order to describe the rhetorical system on which he bases his writing, from the materials of his laboratory (poetry, prose, diary notes, correspondence) until the pseudo-theological discourses, which appear to be an allegory of writing itself. We analyzed in particular the literary transposition of musical technique of variation in Nuovo commento (1969), and the rhythm of the conditional clause in Rumori o voci (1987), the emblematic text of Manganelli's research about the potential of language. Finally Manganelli's prose was compared with other Italians authors of the twentieth century (Pavese, Gadda, Camporesi, Celati), in order to compare different rhythmical organization of language; by this operation, we aim to replace Manganelli, with his subversive marginality, in the center of Italian literary scene.

Abstract: The author Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936) is undoubtedly one of the most important writers of the late nineteenth century to the twentieth century. Having already been recognized by critics for his theatrical innovations and their good buildings in prose, we decided to put poetry at the center of our research. Denying what certain hurried criticism spread in recent times, we will demonstrate that the poetry of Pirandello was not limited to the beginning of his literary work, but ended up doing this in virtually all the writer's career. Thus, we strive to show that already in youth poetry of the author the same obsessive theme appeared to him as the main constituent of your own literature, the "male di vivere" that will call evil of live (mal de viver). This transition of genres is not, in any way, devoid of own aesthetic sense of the Sicilian author, instead, it denounces the subject view of the world that his works include. Therefore, we dissect the evil of life that is contained in Pirandello's work to remove it from the historical moment that is trapped and materialize it as theoretical, philosophical and unphilosophical concepts within the Sicilian author poetry, but also demonstrating several branches in the work of Pirandello as a whole. We continue to do so, the lessons of De Castris, Storia di Pirandello (1982), Alfredo Bosi, O ser e o tempo da poesia (2000), Giacomo Leopardi, Zibaldone di pensieri (1921), Jean-Paul Sartre, O existencialismo é um humanismo (1970), and w... Full textPublished in 1827 by the Milan editor “Stella”, the “Crestomazia italiana della prosa” is the first ever example of a new literary institute: a selected anthology not only willing to choose “beauty” in written works, but trying to give the reader the chance of a complete “painting” of Italian literature. To achieve this goal, Leopardi deeply searches in his father library, but not only transfers in the anthology part of the books as they appear, but tries to adapt them to his “Crestomazia”. The final result is a breaking schemes work: in this way Leopardi innovates literary criticism tradition, trying to write in a much more modern and fascinating way. The anthology definitely communicates directly to the reader, and the simple thoughts and knowledge writing is itself part of the work engine. This research wills to analyze the masterpiece, connecting it to the Leopardi’s cultural and social context, in which takes form the anthology project. Meanwhile another research will is to investigate the author’s “modus operandi”, through a philological analysis of three “Crestomazia” sections (Philology, Practical Philosophy and Speculative Philosophy). Last goal is to connect the “Crestomazia” selection to the Leopardi poems, mostly the “Zibaldone”. Both written in the early 19th century, a period of time where Leopardi is considered one of the leading actors

Full textThis research, framed into the domain of pragmatics, textual linguistics and applied linguistics, aims to analyse mitigation phenomena within a 25 Italian RA’s corpus, to contribute to a better comprehension of these phenomenon in its context of action. More in details, this work attempts to answers to some questions regarding forms, functions and text domains of mitigation. In order to do so, an integrated pragmatic approach was elaborated, derived from Caffi’s tripartite model (2007), based on the notion of scope (propositional content, illocutionary dimension and deictic origin), and on the tradition of literature in a functionalist perspective. The first results of this original investigation, both qualitative and quantitative, will be presented. Furthermore, this research investigates some possible implications in the domain of Italian as FL teaching, and some potential implementations. It provides then, to those involved in teaching Italian LS in academic context, as both teacher and researcher, some first conclusions, tools and resources immediately expendable to design language formation paths, meant to develop textual and genre sensibility as well as competences and skills, like academic writing, defined communicative, academic and transferable, which are crucial for any kind of student to achieve success in their studies.

Full textDr. Raffaella’s Battaglini’s work was born as an ideal completion of Professor Langella's essay "Manzoni poeta teologo". The present essay is evidently threefold: the critical review at the beginning functions almost as a way - we might even say a pretext – to find the right methodological approach for the entire work. The biographical overview is focused on the knots of Manzoni’s conversion on one hand, and of his Jansenism on the other. A sort of status quaestionis of Manzoni’s Jansenism is presented in the Second Chapter. The final stylistic analysis – which was initially supposed to appear at the beginning of the essay – has undoubtedly great qualities and reveals Dr. Raffaella Battaglini’s talent. The monographic study of the simile summarizes and revives many of the remarks (Trompeo, Petrocchi, Cerisola, Raimondi can be quoted among others) that the critical corpus about Manzoni has often pointed out but not always fully developped. The approach to the text is easy without being ingenuous, the remarks are always thoughtful, the prose is fluent and lively. The final appendix about simile, patiently composed, happily fulfills a literary whole contemplari et aliis contemplata tradere.

Gallotta, Gianmarco. "Costruzione dei personaggi e impegno civile nella prosa narrativa e giornalistica di Antonio Tabucchi." Doctoral thesis, Universita degli studi di Salerno, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10556/2037.
Full textThis Thesis is about one of the country's best-known (in Italy and elsewhere) contemporary author Antonio Tabucchi (1943-2012). It makes an attempt to understand two literary topos of Tabucchi’s work: the writer-readercharacter bond and the writer commitment, studied using his journalistic and literary work. The second part of this Thesis compares Tabucchi’s work with two writers, Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936) and Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935), who have inspired Tabucchi in his work. An important observation is that the author imagination and author commitment form a harmonic duo in Tabucchi’s writing. Another area investigated is how the author commitment can be seen in Tabucchi’s articles published in several newspapers in Italy and Europe. My interest for this research is based on my observation that, despite the numerous researches done about Tabucchi, these themes have been treated only superficially. The critics often divide Tabucchi’s literary work in two (the fantastic literature and author commitment). This Thesis doesn’t make a separation between these two, and thus it aims to provide an exhaustive portrait of the Tuscan writer. [edited by Author]

Full textIn the nine chapters which form the three parts of our research dedicated to Palazzeschi's work (the symbolistic period, the futuristic period and his late works). We will attempt to prove that, by alternating poetry and prose, Palazzeschi is always between continuity and break. We will show that his epistolary novel plays a transitory role since :riflessi is in the wake of his first collections of poems - I Cavalli Bianchi (1905), Lanterna (1907) - but goes further than some of the symbolistic topoi and, in its second part, introduces irony : this novelty can also be found in Poemi (1909). Written during Palazzeschi's futuristic period, his second novel, Il Codice di Perelà (1911), also rooted in the "crepuscular fable", evokes Marinetti's tenets, which are evident throughout the collections of poems L'Incendiario (1910) and L'Incendiario (1913). However, Palazzeschi's scepticism jeopardizes the future of the avant-gardist theories in his works of prose and poetry. The development of the buffo type in short stories represents a watershed for Palazzeschi who turns away from poetry : his late novels, a mixture of realism and fantasy, are the subject of another analysis. After showing that his last novels, warmly received by the new avant-garde, don't escape repetition, we will analyse his last collections of poems - Cuor mio (1968), Via delle cento stelle (1972) - which represent a kind of retrospective and a last tribute paid to poetry

Since 1920 till death, Montale worked together with many newspapers and with the most important literary reviews of his period. In 1948 was assumed at «Corriere della sera», in Milan: here he became a journalist as a job and dedicated himself to disclosure Italian and European literature, with a particular attention for English and French ones. This essay analyzes his critical proses, identifying their main themes: authors and books reviewed, themes and cultural issues which Montale wrote about as long as he wrote. Some figures of writers, critics and philosophers (Sergio Solmi, Emilio Cecchi, Benedetto Croce, Roberto Bazlen) represent the ideal boundaries for an idea of poetry, which Montale points in his proses: communicating with these figures, he reflects upon the main issues of contemporary culture and literature. Montale’s critical style can infact be placed between journalism and literary criticism. In the last part of this essays it has been tried to find out some important junctions between literary essays, narrative proses and poetry, living all together in Montale’s activity.

This thesis comprehensively approaches the poetry and prose works of the Romanian poet Paul Celan, aiming to think about them from a reflection on writing and reading, which ultimately moves toward a broader reflection on language. In this sense, the very form of writing of this work – that departs from the reading of Celan’s speeches and prose, as well as of his poems – is a fundamental problem for the thesis. This problem is, at last, a methodological questioning that founds the faltering and undecidable way through which the reading performs before the poet’s words. Divided into two main parts – and subsequently distributed other several times: as meridians – the thesis aims to provoke the stable instances of any writing that proposes to establish a dialogue with poems. Thus, the thesis intends to think thouroughly the possibility of relation with the other – art’s way and destiny –, a relation that is as inseparable as the one concerning writing and reading, at the same time rethinking the very role of a writing that longs to be critic

Full textLiving the late modern times means more than ever inhabiting the city of mind where senses of space, of identity and of belonging are continually talked of, invented, imagined. A new, multiple and dynamic identity, aspiring to cross over and to explore new ways of manifestation is expecting to be rewritten and it seems that time has already come. Places acquire meaning as they house this multiplicity modeling themselves as spaces ready to be crossed, escaped from. It’s obvious that the recent literature delights no more in the euphoria of permanence in one place but in the adventure of dislocation, of the unceasing wandering which Walter Benjamin conceived as « temporary metaphor of being and of having to be of postmodern subjectivity », of the conviction that « we are made from the same stuff that places are made from, that’s why there is a strange correspondence and likeness between us and them. As we are the maps of ourselves and of the places around us so the places become maps of our bodies and of our senses » (Franco La Cecla). Traveling across other places, different from the birthplaces, it’s possible to reach that center of the world represented ontologically by home – as Mircea Eliade reminds us – where everything starts from the beginning and the divine gesture can be repeated without end. Contemporary writing about identity as traced by the Romanian and Italian works we analyzed implies a complex relationship with the Other an the Elsewhere. Identity is revealed to be not much an attribute or a quality of a subject as a relation between subject and the others, between subject and space. As we talk about a concept that looms in different aspects of reality, these relations become natural crossroads of fields, of different disciplines. So we based our analyze and reading of the mobile and multiple features that contemporary identity acquires on a critical approach which combines instruments belonging to thematology, imagology, Cultural Studies, sociology, psychology, and history of mentality. I dedicated the first two chapters of my work to Romanian prose written in the last decades and I took into consideration novels and short stories but also journals and correspondences written in Romania and abroad. All these works outline how Romanian national identity but also many Romanian individual identities have been creating themselves in dependence on a real and reachable space as on an imaginary space, longed for and rebuild in the native country...
