Feldpausch, Andrea Marie. "Evaluating an Extension program: the Texas 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program." Thesis, Texas A&M University, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/4387.

Full text
Abstract:
In times of heightened environmental consciousness, conservation education programming has proven useful for providing information and promoting natural resource conservation and stewardship. In a study of the 2005 Texas 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program (WHEP), a contest teaching youth about the fundamentals of wildlife science and management, I sought to determine if WHEP was successfully reaching its primary goal: promoting conservation by increasing knowledge and skills of youth in the wildlife field. Through a series of facilitator-led interviews with WHEP participants (n = 35) and a combination of internet and on-site surveys (consisting of 35 current participants, 22 control youth, 19 past participants, 25 parents, and 7 coaches obtained from program registration lists), I explored the influence of program participation on wildlife management knowledge, social and leadership skills, attitudes, and understanding of stewardship. I found that WHEP had a significant impact on knowledge of wildlife management techniques and ecological concepts. The program had little influence on attitudes because most youth had positive perceptions of natural resources management prior to program involvement. I also found that past participants of WHEP claimed a significant increase in skills after program participation, but current participants could not determine their own progress. This suggested a longer period of time was needed to gauge self improvement. Parents and coaches claimed the program had a large impact on youth through instilling knowledge and values, but also improving their social, cognitive, and leadership competencies. Adults also discussed issues with participation, including a lack of program expansion and support. From these results, I determined that WHEP was achieving its program goals, but needs to address the issue of expansion because of its low level of operation compared to other 4-H programs in Texas. Suggestions for program growth include targeting youth groups and counties, cross promoting with other conservation programs, and continuing recruitment in currently participating counties.

Patel, Leena. "Program Evaluation: Hunter-White Health Advocate Program." Thesis, The University of Arizona, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/297719.

Full text
Abstract:
The Hunter-White Health Advocate Program is a unique peer-education program at the University of Arizona for Greek chapters and is facilitated through Fraternity and Sorority Programs. This program trains health advocates whom then educate their respective chapters on a number of health topics through presentations. Other requirements include attendance to health events, providing resources, and self-reflection. This evaluation compiled and analyzed three surveys using STATA and Microsoft Excel: pre-evaluations prior to the start of health advocates’ term, presentation evaluations completed by Greek members after presentations were completed by health advocates, and Campus Health Services’ Health and Wellness Survey from 2007 to 2012. The results of the evaluation show that little behavior change has taken place. Greek members participate in more risky behaviors than non-Greek members and negative behaviors have not decrease significantly. Health advocates equally chose or were chosen for the position, but did not believe the intended 20-30 minute time frame was necessary to teach material. Members did find topics to be relevant and useful and planned to use it in the future. Recommendations for improvement of the program and further evaluation were provided based on data analysis, observation, and use of the integrated theory of evaluation.

The objective of this dissertation is two-fold: (i) propose a program evaluation model for enterprise standardization programs based upon two conceptual and interlinked approaches: program evaluation and organizational learning; (ii) to validate the proposed model through a case study on Transpetro s Marine Terminals Standardization Program. In this context, evaluation practice may generate organizational learning to help Transpetro correct standardization program deviations and increase its efficiency and effectiveness towards operational excellence. As a matter of fact, standardization programs are necessary in marine terminals operations where standards are the minimum acceptable requirements to fulfill the goals for the operator, and the maximum requirements provided to the work for the contractor. Additionally, marine terminals should attend sector s regulations, occupational safety guidelines, and environmental management standards. The motivation of this research arose from Transpetro s need to have a program evaluation model capable of measuring efficiency of its Marine Terminals Standardization Program. The methodology encompasses: (i) literature survey on program evaluation and organizational learning; (ii) design of a standardization program evaluation model based on a conceptual framework which links both theoretical approaches; (iii) development of a case study on Transpetro s Marine Terminals Standardization Program; and (iv) formulation of conclusions and suggestions for future research and replication in other organizational contexts. The main results can be summarized as follows: (i) an innovative evaluation model to assess enterprise standardization programs; and (ii) a set of indicators for measuring efficiency and effectiveness of Transpetro s Marine Terminals Standardization Program. As a conclusion, it can be said that the proposed program evaluation model fulfilled expectations and assumptions formulated at the very beginning of this research. According to the opinion of Transpetro s managers and teams involved, the model is a useful management and learning tool for enterprise standardization initiatives and has a large potential for replication in other organizational contexts from the empirical evidences achieved.

The purpose of the current study is to examine what factors contribute to how marriage and family therapy (MFT) programs address multicultural competency training and to understand the support mechanisms of the training process. A sequential explanatory mixed-method design was utilized to evaluate MFT training programs. First, a Multicultural Survey, adapted from the Multicultural Competency Checklist (Ponterotto, Alexander, & Griegor, 1995), was used to gain a preliminary understanding of the masters MFT field regarding multitcultural competency training. Out of the 70 MFT program directors contacted, 39 program directors or program representatives responded to the survey (55.71% response). Qualitative interviews from 8 participants (program directors, n = 7; program representative, n = 1) representing each geographical region (Northeast, n = 2; South, n = 2; Midwest, n = 2; West, n = 2) were used to examine programs’ multicultural competency training content, program context and training processes. Five themes emerged from the data: 1) internal program dynamic, 2) external program factors, 3) stakeholders, 4) faculty recruitment, and 5) cross-program collaboration. General systems theory, process theory and the logic model were utilized to conceptualize the results (Kellogg, 2004; Rossi, Lipsey, & Freeman, 2004; White & Klein, 2002).

Hinds, Drew Samuel Wayne. "Evaluating Alternative High Schools| Program Evaluation in Action." Thesis, Portland State University, 2013. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3587104.

Full text
Abstract:

Alternative high schools serve some of the most vulnerable students and their programs present a significant challenge to evaluate. Determining the impact of an alternative high school that serves mostly at-risk students presented a significant research problem. Few studies exist that dig deeper into the characteristics and strategies of successful alternative schooling. Moreover valid program evaluation methods to identify successful alternative school practices are hit and miss. As a result, public policy and systems of accountability have either disregarded information relating to alternative high schools or unjustifiably included them in comparisons with traditional high schools.

This dissertation studied the issue of how best to evaluate alternative high schools and what tools support leaders in planning a thorough and accurate program evaluation. The Alternative High School Program Evaluation Toolkit was developed to support school leaders and evaluation teams made up of internal and external stakeholders as they facilitate the program evaluation process. The features of the Toolkit address the need for alternative school evaluation to be practical, useful, fair and accurate. The Evaluation Toolkit includes training materials, protocols, an evaluation planning worksheet and an evaluation planning matrix that supports the team in conducting the evaluation.

The research represented in this dissertation is theoretically and practically grounded in Bridges and Hallinger's (1995) Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Borg and Gall's (1989) Research and Development (R&D) Cycle. The product of the R&D Cycle was the Alternative High School Program Evaluation Toolkit and a process for use by evaluation teams assigned the task of planning and carrying out program evaluations.

Abstract:
Description of program Positive Impact is a non-profit organization established in 1992. The organization’s focus was ‘to eliminate the risk of HIV transmission and to empower those affected by HIV through culturally competent and inclusive prevention, education, mental health and substance abuse treatment services’.1 Evaluation questions and explanation The purpose of this evaluation was to determine how satisfied the clients were with the HIV mental health-counseling program. Overall, the survey and evaluation were conducted to enhance the effectiveness of service delivery as well as overall agency operations. The following questions were the focus of the evaluation: Are the clients satisfied with the services provided? Are the clients satisfied with the staff that provided the services? As a direct result of services received, have clients’ improved their personal lives? Are the psychiatric services, including medications that were prescribed, benefiting the client? Have the clients’ improved their relationships with persons other than their mental health provider? Methods Using a 50-question paper survey, we collected data from the clients who were currently enrolled in the mental health program. The survey included multiple choice and 5-point Likert scale questions. Frequencies and percentages were calculated using SPSS for questions that contained answer selections. Main findings Results showed that the clients were satisfied with the services provided. 73% of respondents strongly agreed that they liked the services that they received with Positive Impact. Overall, the clients were satisfied with the staff that provided their services. Respondents agreed that the staff had their best interest in mind. 30% of clients agreed that their personal lives improved after receiving services. For the respondents that had psychiatric help, an approximately 50% strongly agreed that these services are benefiting them. An average of 30% of clients agree that their relationships with other people has improved. Recommendations Positive Impact should continue to create continued program satisfaction surveillance in order to assist future evaluation and continue to improve the program. They should administer the survey that was used in this evaluation or a variation of it once every year.

Hundley, Linda Louise. "A Program Evaluation of an Integrative Wellness Program." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/196117.

Full text
Abstract:
Chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and depression exist in 45% of the U.S. population and are responsible for 70% of the deaths and 75% of the $2 trillion in annual medical expenditures. Healthy eating, being physically active, managing stress, and avoiding tobacco have well-documented relationships to improved health and well-being, and chronic disease prevention.Integrative healthcare, a holistic approach to care that is patient-centered, personalized, and focused on health and well-being, incorporates conventional and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Integrative healthcare has the potential to provide high quality care that prevents illness and promotes optimal wellness, resulting in decreased health care costs and a healthier nation. Although integrative healthcare is increasing in popularity, few integrative healthcare programs have been studied and relatively little is known about the processes, outcomes, feasibility, efficacy, effectiveness, or sustainability of these programs. The purpose of this project was to evaluate selected organizational processes and patient outcomes of an integrative health care program. The three specific aims of the project were to analyze the program theory through the development and evaluation of the program logic model, to evaluate selected organizational processes, and to examine selected client outcomes, including satisfaction. This inquiry used the CDC Framework for Program Evaluation as a guide. The study employed a descriptive design with both qualitative and quantitative methods, including key informant interviews with program staff and a client focus group. De-identified data on pre and post measurements of client Wellness Inventory scores, weight, BMI, and advanced cardiac panels, and post program surveys obtained from the program director were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the paired t test or the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The evaluation of an existing integrative healthcare program provides potentially useful information to the stakeholders of the program and a valuable referral resource for other providers in the community. Dissemination of the information may also be used as a model and an inspiration for other advanced practice nurses to develop innovative practice models that support holistic, wellness-focused care.

Pacheco, Christy Lee. "Program Evaluation of a County Reproductive Health Program." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/228158.

Full text
Abstract:
Northern Arizona women of childbearing age are at disproportionately higher risk for poverty and persistent health disparities in maternal risk factors and maternal child health outcomes. Preconception care is a lifespan and population-based approach to providing health promotion activities to women of childbearing age to improve the health of women, their families, and communities. The county's Reproductive Health Program offers comprehensive reproductive and preconception healthcare to underserved women and men throughout the county without regard for ability to pay, serving as a critical safety net for this vulnerable population. A formative evaluation was performed using the CDC's Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health and retrospective chart review to assess program implementation. In 2010, 1,561 patients received care over 2,575 visits; the majority of patients (69.4%) were women of childbearing age (females 15-44). Most patients (92.9%) were ≤ 150% FPL, and uninsured (77.8%). Program patients were racially/ethnically diverse, with nearly half identifying themselves as White (48.8%), followed by Hispanic (35.3%), and American Indian/Alaskan Native (11.6%). Program reach was limited. Comprehensive medical and social risk assessment and health promotion activities were consistent with evidence-based recommendations. More than 3,400 STI and pap screenings were performed, with identification of 178 abnormal results at the primary program site. One hundred forty-five females had a positive pregnancy test at the primary program site, one-third (33.1%) to teens. For women of childbearing age not trying to become pregnant (98%), a range of family planning methods were provided, which most commonly included oral contraception (36.9%), followed by condoms (15.4%), and Depo-Provera injection (12.6%). More than 10% of low-income females 15-44 received referrals for further medical care not provided with program. Logistic regression analysis revealed program visits associated with a decreased risk of unplanned pregnancy, though this was not significant (OR 0.87, 95% CI 0.59-1.29, p>0.05). In conclusion, this program provided evidence-based preconception care to underserved women of childbearing age, though reach was limited. Additional studies are recommended to explore patient needs and barriers to improve reach and tailor services. Development of a community advisory council is recommended to guide program activities.

Schultz, Spencer. "Program Evaluation of a Rich Media Implementation Program." ScholarWorks, 2019. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/7742.

Full text
Abstract:
Some U.S. e-commerce retail organizations use inadequate visual product presentation strategies that are limited to static product images and uninspiring textual descriptions. E-store customers have a stake because they are the beneficiary of the higher quality online shopping experience produced when rich media is used. Viewed through richness media theory, the purpose of this summative program evaluation was to evaluate the effectiveness of using rich media in e-store product listings. The evaluation was performed for a partner organization 1 year after the organization implemented a rich media implementation program in its e-store product listings. The results of the first repeated measures t tests indicated using rich media in e-store product listings increased annual sales revenue by 14.2% and total profit dollars by 8.8%; however, the results of a weekly profit comparison between 2016 and 2017 were not statistically significant, t(52) = .768, p = .446. The results of the second repeated measures t test indicated customer retention increased by 7.4% annually after implementing the rich media implementation program; however, the results of a weekly customer retention comparison between 2016 and 2017 were not statistically significant, t(52) = 2.002, p =.051. The results of the thematic analysis revealed one theme: maintaining rich media must be cost effective. The implications for positive social change include the potential for increasing consumer trust in convenient, e-retail shopping practices and reducing consumer dependency on inefficient shopping practices at traditional brick-and-mortar stores. Consumers with more detailed product information can make more informed purchase decisions, resulting in a reduced number of product returns and a higher quality online shopping experience.

Abstract:
Using a combination of the quantitative and qualitative, a peer tutoring program at a secondary governor's school was analyzed between fall of 2015 to spring of 2019 for efficacy with respect to how participation influenced changes in tutees' quarter scores, when the optimal time to offer peer tutoring would be, and what participants identified as the primary benefits and barriers to attending. Peer tutoring was offered both after school and during lunch during this investigation, and yielded many interesting results. First, peer tutoring was found to have no significant influence overall upon change upon participants' quarter scores compared to a control, and in a highly unusual result was even found to have a negative influence upon tutees' quarter scores under certain circumstances. Second, participants attended during certain times and days more reliably than others, though overall attendance was highly vulnerable to academic and activity conflicts. Third, tutors' motivation to offer support tended to be altruistic in nature, whereas tutees' motivation was to receive academic support. Last, participants identified activity conflicts as a significant barrier to attending peer tutoring, and mixed results were found about the influence of lacking transportation as a challenge for attendance.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to assess patient improvement in a specific freestanding partial hospital. Improvement was assessed in two specific areas: 1) symptom reduction as measured by the Symptom Check List-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) and 2) social adjustment as measured by the Social Adjustment Scale Self-Report (SAS-SR) at admission, discharge and three month follow-up. In addition, improvement was assessed from two perspectives: 1) patient evaluation and 2) therapist evaluation. Results indicated that there was statistically significant improvement from admission to discharge on the SCL-90-R and the SAS-SR. This improvement was maintained from discharge to three month follow-up. Findings also revealed statistically significant improvement when analyzed from both the patient perspective and the therapist perspective.

Eisenbise, David Alan. "Diabetes Tele-Health Program for Hispanic Veterans: Program Evaluation." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/556720.

Full text
Abstract:
Background and Rationale: Rural Hispanic Veterans in the Southern Arizona region with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are at risk for diabetes related complications. The Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System (SAVAHCS) care coordination home tele-health (CCHT) program serves as a useful tool in T2DM management in addition to services through primary care. CCHT has not been evaluated to determine effectiveness in this uniquely vulnerable demographic - rural Hispanic Veterans with T2DM in the Southern Arizona region. Purpose: The purpose of this DNP project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse managed and nurse ran program known as the SAVAHCS CCHT T2DM program in achieving successful diabetes self-management and related biological measures among male and female Hispanic veterans who reside in rural Arizona counties and receive their health care through SAVAHCS. Project Aims: Aim I: Evaluate the effects of the SAVAHCS CCHT T2DM program among rural Hispanic veterans on the biological measure of glycosylated hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) at three different time periods, initially at admission, three months after admission, and six months after admission. Aim II: Evaluate the effects of the SAVAHCS CCHT T2DM program among rural Hispanic veterans on the other quality measures of diabetes management including Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure (BP) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol at three different time periods (see Aim I). Methods: A descriptive study design was used to evaluate the SAVAHCS CCHT program. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health was used to examine the effectiveness of the tele-health program. Data were collected from the Veterans Health Administration data warehouse. Biological measures were collected and analyzed at three different time points. Results: Descriptive data analysis of the veterans (n=12) demonstrated minimal intervention improvement of 0.1 units on A1C (8.3% of veterans), BP (16.7%) and BMI (16.7%). Due to missing data the results may not be due to the CCHT program but to structure and process issues related to collection of reliable data. A more robust program evaluation is recommended.

Abstract:
Health promotion and disease prevention are a focus of population health management. Without ongoing and rigorous evaluation, these programs may be in jeopardy of continuing. The purpose of this project was to conduct a descriptive population health- focused evaluation of a large-scale health system's employee health and wellbeing program. Guided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) framework for program evaluation in public health and National Center for Organization Development guidelines, a nurse-led evaluation was conducted using 5 specific data sets emphasizing organizational structure, employee health offerings, employee surveys, Pathway to Excellence survey, and program contributions. A descriptive analysis was applied towards interpreting the organizational structure, and identifying all contributions to employee wellness. Inferential analysis was applied to identify correlations between survey results. The findings of the evaluation were mixed. The organizational structure of the program complied with CDC wellness program guidelines; of the 97 service departments surveyed, results revealed an 83.51% improvement in engagement, disengagement, satisfaction, best places to work, and customer satisfaction. The Pathway to Excellence survey results revealed a supportive organizational structure for a culture of wellness. The program contribution analysis showed that the health system provided accessible wellness and health promotion opportunities. Positive social change may result from this evaluation as the program is reinforced and the focus on employee wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention services are continued. As a result, the lives of employees, their families, and communities might be improved.

Abstract:
This program evaluation study focused on the outcomes of a Math program for elementary level students. This mixed-methods study explored the relationship between the implementation of the Investigations Math program and teachers' perceptions of its impacts. The program theory that guided this study stated that teachers who were provided time and resources to examine best practice Math curricula and instructional methods would: adopt and implement a holistic Math program that updated the curriculum; create positive changes in teacher content and pedagogical knowledge; meet the needs of all students, at all proficiency levels; result in a consistent scope and sequence; and lead to improved student achievement. The findings did not fully support the program theory but did inform the school of study of the positive outcomes that the adoption of the Investigations program enhanced teachers' perceptions of: alignment of the curriculum with Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice; their capabilities as leaders of the inquiry process within the classroom setting; facilitating a Math program with consistency in concepts, student experiences, and assessment; improved students' consistency of good thinking; and increased number sense, perseverance in solving problems, and use of appropriate tools to construct viable arguments. However, analysis of the ERB-CTP4 math achievement test scores revealed negligible changes in the overall mean student performance as a result of the implementation of the Investigations program. Weaknesses in the assessment materials of Investigations also required a supplemental curriculum to be adopted in parts.

Oskui-Tabrizi, Nargas. "Academic Computing Infrastructure Program Evaluation." Thesis, University of Oregon, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/1794/18504.

Full text
Abstract:
Academic computing is one major component of Information Technology infrastructure affecting the availability and utilization of technologies at universities. The study here evaluated two different colleges at the University of Oregon in comparison to a minimal logic model proposed here, the Support for Academic Computing Model (SAC). Based on the differences in IT needs and implementation of existing instructional technology services, the evaluation investigated the utility of the logic model and information regarding the two settings. The two colleges are the College of Education (COE) and the School of Architecture and Allied Arts (AAA). My hypothesis is that empirical evaluation studies based on a comparison with a base logic model for infrastructure needs across contexts may help to provide information to better align resources. Results show that a strong use case of 100% of faculty interviewed at COE rely on Learning Management Systems (LMSs), Data Visualization and Video & Audio tools, making them a core part of the SAC model. Most faculty interviewed in AAA utilize LMSs at 89%, then Productivity/Content Creation/Research Tools at 83%, and as an extension Instructional Media Tools at 46%, which helps to validate the SAC model across this second context. Other information in the model evaluation allows more specific comparisons of gaps in areas such as access to resources, knowledge of and about resources, mission-driven need for resources, and some patterns. Common themes that emerged from the faculty interviews are the need to showcase technology usage among colleagues, that services are not always well advertised, that technology may not be accessible or that there may be issues regarding limited or unclear funding for both support and resources that limits their use. This indicates that this style of a model might be helpful in planning and evaluating academic computing support programs and services. Future work would be needed to investigate the degree to which intervening according to the findings of such a model might be efficacious to improve the perceived quality of services or the usage patterns and outcomes, as well as the degree to which such a model could be generalized and evolve over time.

This is a study of case with qualitative and quantitative approach. It has as objective the description of the historical description and the evaluation of the Family Health Program (FHP) expansion process in a South of Brazil city, occurred between December of 2002 and December of 2004. It was used the Donabedian model for structure, process and result evaluation and subsequent comparison, in a before and after study type, in the covering area evolution of the program, calculated by the Health Department systematic, from 23,85%(dec/2002) to 70%(dec/2004). The results discussion was carried out joined to a historical description expansion from 11 to 33 Family’s Health teams. It was done through documentary research, where, using the content analysis, it was possible to identify the subjects related to the structure, process and results related to the FHP. Related to the structure was compared financial resources, human resources, physical installations, vehicles, specialized reference, complementary examinations and expenses with medicines. The items analyzed in process were ratio of individual medical record organization for families, covering for medical and nursing consultations and covering of home visits in the FHP. For the result evaluation the taxes of children’s mortality, percentage of pregnant covering with more than 6 prenatal consultations, rates of hospital admission incidence, using the Brazilian Health System, for respiratory infections and diarrhea illness in children under 5 years old were compared. The comparison between the moments evidences a significant meaningful in all items of structure compared, with prominence for financial and human resources, specialized reference and physical installations. About the process, it was adopted an individual medical record filling systematic for registered families. There was an increase in the number of medical consultations in the FHP with reduction for the medical clinic, pediatrics and urgency consultations. As resultant, in the comparison between the moments, it reduced the amount and the consultations covering in the basic specialties. The covering of nursing consultations increased in 160, 7% in the period of comparison. The home visits covering in the systematic of the SISPACTO increased in 92,3% between the analyzed moments, the variation was studied in each professional category. In the results evaluation occurred a worsening in the pregnant with more than 6 consultations of prenatal covering, with reduction from 61,6% to 50,0%. The coefficients of hospital admission using the Brazilian Health System for respiratory infection and diarrhea illness had increased in 29,1% and 15,3%, respectively. Children’s mortality reduced in 33,0%, from 28,8‰ to 19,3‰. The historical description refers to the period before the expansion until the end of 2004, when the analysis of this study was finished. The facilities and limiters in an expansion process are identified by the combination of the quantitative data with the historical description.

Program evaluation in the fields of second language acquisition (SLA) and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) has a history dating from the 1960's. The focus of previous program evaluations has been on language achievement at the end of the program of study (Lynch, 1996). However, to improve or maintain program quality, teacher education of future foreign language instructors is essential; thus, improvements in the quality and/or control of teacher education programs is also important. The primary purpose of this study is to propose and test a multi-faceted approach to program evaluation that originates from the administrative side of two graduate programs in Applied Linguistics. This marks the first time in the field that this approach has been implemented. First, time series enrollment models were examined to investigate the overall stability of the two graduate education programs for non-traditional students from 1993 to 2010 (for the Master's programs) and 1995 to 2010 (for the doctoral programs). Second, logistic regression models were examined to investigate the characteristics of the students who did and did not graduate from the programs. Third, event history Cox regression models were examined to investigate the amount of time spent by the graduate students to complete the degree using potential demographic and enrollment pattern factors as predictors. Finally, a dynamic model was formulated and tested to simulate the program's potential future enrollments based in part on the results of the prior model analyses and publically available data. The results indicated the potential for developing a relatively strong time series enrollment prediction model for near future enrollments using the data available in the administrative database. However, the student success/failure models and event history program study time prediction models were relatively weak and the results indicated the difficulty of predicting whether students will successfully complete the graduate programs using data typically collected from the students when they enter the program. The simulation results showed a potential decline in enrollments over the next decade mainly due to the decline of the 18-year-old student population in Japan, the decreasing size of the foreign language teacher population, the long, gradual recession in Japan, and the revision of university faculty employment status by the Japanese Ministry of Education.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the quality, relevance, benefits, and teacher preparedness of a student advisory that was implemented in a high school to improve student connectedness to the school. Students' and staff perceptions and ideas were collected and analyzed for the purpose of understanding whether the advisory was meeting its stated goals and for the purpose of providing guidance for the next phases of the advisory. One year of extant student and staff surveys were collected and a focus group with staff were held to elicit their thoughts, perceptions, and ideas of the advisory program and whether the advisory achieved its short-range outcomes of increasing student connectivity to the school. The results indicated students want a more engaging and purposeful advisory with relevant lessons that provide them the opportunity to meet other grade-level students in the school. Teachers provided similar feedback regarding the mixed grade levels and relevance, however, teacher respondents also shared more positive insights for the advisory program, compared to students, indicating it was on a purposeful trajectory.

Abstract:
Programs that include skills to help girls successfully navigate the difficulties of preadolescence have been shown to be beneficial. One such youth development program in the southeastern part of the United States began in 2014 but has had no formal evaluation completed. The purpose of this qualitative study was to conduct a utilization-focused process evaluation, asking questions that addressed the perceptions of a school leader (n = 1) and volunteers of the program (n = 8). Their input was solicited concerning successful implementation strategies used, and recommendations for adaptations, recruitment, and volunteer training. Semistructured interviews were conducted using predetermined open-ended, questions. Open coding was used to discover the most common themes. After analyzing the data using VERBI's Software, MAXQDA, the identified themes were (a) successful elements of the program, (b) elements of the program that were not working, (c) suggestions for adaptations to improve the outcomes for participants, and (d) essential points to consider when recruiting new volunteers. Study participants reported that many of the girls participating in the program made positive changes in their behavior, exhibited improved self-esteem, and expanded their support system. Key findings will be discussed with the program administrators to assist them in recruiting and training new volunteers and to suggest administrative adjustments. Positive social change will be facilitated by offering ideas to the administrators that may result in expansion of the program, allowing more girls in the community to participate and experience positive results.

Hagos, Olivia. "Development of a Program Evaluation for a Preceptor Preparation Program." ScholarWorks, 2017. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/4141.

Abstract:
A significant nursing shortage exists in the United States, which is compounded by high turnover rates. Skilled nurse preceptors are needed to train and assimilate nurses, which would improve retention of nurse preceptors, facilitate transition of nurses to the practice environment, and increase the number of preceptors within the organization. A preceptor preparation program in a 300-bed hospital was developed to promote nurse preceptor success while enhancing learning outcomes and creating a supportive work environment. The organization's leaders are interested in the successes of the program and its long-term role in retaining nurse preceptors who completed the preceptor preparation program. Therefore, the purpose of this doctor of nursing practice (DNP) project was to develop a program evaluation model where the institution could assess the retention rate of preceptors and the overall effectiveness of the program. The evaluation framework consisted of the Benner's model skill acquisition, from novice to expert, which will assist in assessing outcomes of retention of nursing preceptors as they evolved through the program. The project question for this DNP project asked whether a program evaluation to identify methods to capture current rate of retention of preceptors and overall program effectiveness could be developed. A survey tool was successfully developed and the pilot study was accepted by the facility to capture and evaluate the program information. This project provides a model for program evaluation and may increase the nursing literature on preceptor retention programs. Preceptor program outcomes are important to evaluate and can create positive social change regarding the number of quality preceptors available to train new nurses in practice.

Abstract:

This program evaluation seeks to determine whether a new expulsion program established in a suburban school district in the Mountain West region of the United States was successful in its goals of reengaging expelled students and preparing them for a successful transition back to a traditional school. This new program was designed as a foil to computer based programs of previous years and adopted a social-emotional focus to increase student resiliency. Quantitative student data, as well as qualitative data from student focus groups was analyzed to gauge program effectiveness. Findings indicate that students earned significantly more credits and had significantly fewer absences than students from the previous year’s program. Focus groups suggested that a warm, welcoming environment staffed by caring, supportive adults was critical to increasing student engagement. Additionally, direct instruction and practice of social-emotional and resiliency skills contributed to a sense of preparedness to return to a traditional school environment.

Abstract:
The Block Management Program, initiated in 1985, was implemented to encourage private landowners to provide free public hunting access. Currently, the program has over 1,200 landowners enrolling 8.8 million acres, and provides over 400,000 hunter days of free public hunting. Surveys were sent to 423 landowners (303 returned) and 1,636 hunters (976 returned) to evaluate current perceptions of block management area (BMA) users. Observations, expectations, and satisfaction levels were determined by calculating frequencies and means using SAS 8.2, and then comparisons between permission method strategies and between geographic regions were evaluated. Landowners were satisfied with permission methods used, numbers of hunters received annually, and with hunter limit and travel restriction rules utilized, but satisfaction levels regarding relative game abundance and harvest success were higher in Eastern Montana than in Western Montana. Hunters were very successful in gaining permission to BMAs, and were satisfied with travel restrictions encountered, but satisfaction levels regarding amounts of other hunters seen were higher on Type 2 and on Eastern Montana BMAs. Satisfaction with game abundance was higher on Eastern Montana BMAs, and was higher with harvest success on Type 2 and Eastern Montana BMAs. Program success was evident by levels of satisfaction with the various hunter management tools evaluated by this study, but some areas needed improvement, such as increased efforts to sign BMAs, improve maps, and provide refuse receptacles to further decrease hunter violations. This study also provided insight for designing strategies that meet specific preferences and expectations of program users when developing new BMAs, including permission method, hunter number management, and travel management strategies.

Abstract:
The purpose of this qualitative program evaluation was to examine the impact a two-year new teacher induction program had on teachers’ feelings of support, satisfaction, and self-efficacy. The program purports that higher feelings of support, satisfaction, and self-efficacy in teachers will lead to lower teacher attrition. In turn, research shows that if teachers stay at a school they are more likely to improve their instruction and positively impact student performance. The goal of the study was to identify areas of the induction program that work well in increasing teachers perceptions positively in the three focus areas and to look for ways to improve the program moving forward to better serve future new hires at the school. Data were gathered through an interview process with ten questions focusing on the three main research areas of support, satisfaction, and self-efficacy. Participants included the eight teachers that had most recently completed the two-year induction program. The teachers reported feeling high levels of support, satisfaction, and self-efficacy following their two years at the school, but the impact the induction program had on those levels was mixed. A number of non-induction related activities were identified that also impact the teachers’ levels in the three focus areas. Recommendations were made to strengthen identified areas of induction already in place that were important to the participants as well as additions that could be added to the induction program in order to maximize the effectiveness of the program.

Abstract:
Administration and faculty are now being held accountable for the learning process in educational programs at the institutional level. The purpose of this study was to describe and compare baccalaureate graduates' perceptions of Ball State University School of Nursing's education program and employers' perceptions of those graduates. This study also examined graduates demographic characteristics such as, personal information, education, professional practice, and professional activities. Stufflebeam's (1966) CIPP Model for evaluation was utilized as a theoretical framework. A convenience sample of all graduates of 19881990 one year after graduation and 1986-1987 graduates five years after graduation and employers willing to participate completed the questionnaires and/or demographic sheet. The perceptions of graduates towards Ball State University School of Nursing's educational programs and employers'perceptions towards the graduates were examined in descriptive design.A list of names was received from Ball State University's Alumni Office. Questionnaires were coded and mailed with a cover letter and a stamped, self-addressed envelope. All participants were informed of rights as human subjects and the confidentiality of this study. A cover letter informed subjects of procedures, risks, and benefits. Ball State University's Institutional Review Board granted permission to conduct the study. The findings of this study of one and five year postgraduates lead to the general conclusion that Ball State University's baccalaureate nursing program has been successful. These findings are consistent with those found in the literature. In general, the graduates expressed satisfaction with all aspects of the baccalaureate nursing education. The findings from the instrument to measure employers' perceptions (one and five years after graduation) were positive. Approximately three fourths of employers indicated the graduates functioned at above expected levels in regards to communication, nursing, leadership skills, andprofessionalism. The graduates had a successful transition into practice, and employers were satisfied with the graduates' performances.

Abstract:
This evaluation examines the Georgia Justice Project's (GJP) employment program. GJP has been assisting its clients since 1986. GJP is an unlikely mix of lawyers, social workers, and a landscaping company. The Georgia Justice Project defends people accused of crimes and, win or lose, they stand by their clients while they rebuild their lives. GJP's mission is to ensure justice for the indigent criminally accused and to take a holistic approach to assisting them in establishing crime-free lives as productive citizens. GJP's goal is to have a positive impact on the lives of individual clients and their families, which in turn positively impacts the community by decreasing crime and violence. Helping clients rebuild their lives often involves helping them obtain employment. In 1993, New Horizon Landscaping Company was created to assist clients with employment needs. The services the employment program provides include job readiness, job placement, training, and GED preparation. These services help clients remove/overcome barriers (i.e., legal case, criminal record). The sample consists of sixty individuals who received assistance in 2002. The social services intake form was utilized to gather the information needed for the evaluation. The data was obtained by assessing each client's case file records. The following questions were addressed in this evaluation: (1) What were the employment needs presented by the program's clients? (2) What specific needs were met by existing services? (3) What needs were not being addressed? The data were collected by the researcher and interpreted for data analysis. The findings from this evaluation were expected to increase awareness when working with ex-offenders in the field of social work. The results of the evaluation and implications are discussed in later chapters.

Engleking, Charlene. "Exploring an Accelerated College Program for Adult Learners| A Program Evaluation." Thesis, Lindenwood University, 2016. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10027093.

Full text
Abstract:

Many colleges and universities have expanded their mission to include adult learners. Programs range from scheduling traditional courses in the evening to designing new programs tailored to meet the needs of working adults. Program designers have relied on theorists such, as Mezirow (1991), Houle (1996), and Knowles, Holton, and Swanson (1998), to develop programs that apply adult learning theory. Lindenwood College, now Lindenwood University, established The Lindenwood College for Individualized Education (LCIE) in 1975 to serve adult students in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The program has evolved over the course of 40 years, and this program evaluation evaluated the program effectiveness in its current delivery format.

This program evaluation employed a mixed-method design to answer one main research question and two sub-questions. The main research question asked, How does LCIE, in its current incarnation, address the ideals of adult learning theory, the needs of busy contemporary adult students, and the requirements of the accrediting agency? Sub-question #1 asked, How have LCIE learning processes evolved since 1975? Sub-question #2 asked, Is there congruency between LCIE mission and practice?

The outcome measurement data was gathered through a comparison of pre-test and post-test data collected by the university to assess critical thinking skills of entering and graduating students. The university employed the ETS Proficiency Profile, and a sample of 30 students was extracted from that data set for comparison for this study. The findings showed that the differences between pre-test and post-test scores were not significant.

The process measurement data was gathered through interviews with volunteer faculty (3) and students (9) from the program. A series of interview questions was posed, and the responses coded to identify three emerging themes. The three themes were general satisfaction, the importance of job preparation and career mobility, and program rigor.

The program evaluation found that LCIE is currently applying adult learning theory and there is congruency between the program mission statement and the program practice. The answer to sub-question 1 concerning the changes in the program was inconclusive as the students had not experienced the changes and therefore felt unqualified to comment.

Abstract:
Most students with disabilities in public schools are served in inclusive environments by teams of special and general education teachers working together to support their access to the curriculum and their disability related needs. This program evaluation sought to understand the knowledge, skills, and efficacy of a group of co-teachers following their participation in an in-service secondary co-teaching professional development program which focused on effective use of the station teaching, parallel teaching, and alternative teaching models to deliver specially designed instruction in co-taught classrooms. The program evaluation was based on Stufflebeam’s CIPP model of program evaluation and used a mixed-methods approach to gain insights into the perceptions of the teachers who participated in the program, along with the experts who designed and delivered the program, on both the immediate intended outcomes and the stakeholders’ perceptions of the program elements themselves and their need for future professional development. Findings from the program evaluation support that although teachers felt generally knowledgeable and grew in their intentionality and documentation practices, this knowledge did not always extend to classroom application. Additionally, the findings regarding the program elements reiterated the research surrounding effective professional development practices; specifically related to the importance of collaboration, modeling, and observation, feedback, and reflection cycles to support adult learners’ professional growth. Relevant findings should support the District in growing and strengthening future iterations of the program. Findings supported changes in both local practices and had implications for greater policy changes in education as well.
