Abstract:
This article proposes reconceptualizing professional knowledge in early childhood education and care (ECEC) as knowledges, incorporating phronesis (practical wisdom), techne (skill), and episteme (pure knowledge). Conceptualizing professional knowledge in the plural broadens perspectives on the professional knowledge base and opens up a discussion of how different forms of knowledge are acquired. Drawing on Bernstein, the author identifies ECEC as requiring horizontal and vertical constructs of knowledge that have different structures and legitimization processes. While phronesis is presented as being a part of ECEC professional knowledges, the discussion explores the difficulties in defining phronesis, because of the variable ways it is articulated.

Abstract:
This article affirms an indigenous perspective for Māori practitioners of professional supervision in the social sciences, particularly in the practice of Kaupapa Māori supervision. Definitions of supervision are discussed, Codes of Ethics are analysed and are provided a cultural response. Key problem areas of the current cultural supervision situation are identified and an analysis of those areas is deconstructed by asking questions of existing power relations within the sector. Accountability, representation, initiation, benefits and legitimization (Bishop Glynn, 1990) are the topics under scrutiny. The article reports on a reconstruction of some key solution areas as researched in a PhD study of Kaupapa Māori supervision, completed in 2013.

Abstract:
Contemporary Greek cinema garnered a great reputation in recent years, including Oscar nominations, numerous awards and distinctions in international festivals and also worldwide media coverage. The emergence of a new group of filmmakers whose creativity and avant-garde aesthetics were stimulated and heightened by the social and economic crisis was first marked by media critics (film critics and cultural journalists). As journalistic art criticism plays a prominent role in the legitimization of cultural products and artistic genres, this article examines the way in which professional film critics and journalists, both in Greece and abroad, described, evaluated and labelled the ‘Greek New Wave’. In line with cultural evaluation theories, we conducted a content analysis of film criticism articles in order to explore how professionals have reviewed and deployed their arguments towards this new phenomenon. Our results indicate that film criticism decisively influenced the Greek New Wave’s shaping and legitimization in the film industry. Even though film critics and journalists hesitated to adhere to a specific name for this phenomenon in Greek cinema, their discourses and interpretations have been based on the films’ break with previous film practices and representations of Greek society and the paradox between a ‘collapsing country’ and a flourishing arthouse cinema.

Abstract:
The article deals with career space in views of residents of Rostov region. The author analyzes the views of career opportunities, the place of work, the channels for employment and career advancement, the preferred occupations, limits of career and legitimization of career movements. It is stated that the movement in the career space is determined not so much by the professional resources, as by "family capital", and the lack of informal capital triggers rapid attainment of a career limit

Abstract:
Abstract This article investigates the institutionalization and the practices of charity that sustained imperial rule in the early modern Spanish Empire. The article proposes that the polycentric Spanish Empire of the 16th to 18th centuries faced a fundamental challenge in terms of justifying the extension of power beyond its original territory of legitimization through custom and (invented) history. This challenge was dealt with through recourse to an ideology of good governance in corporate society. It institutionalized differences across race/caste, urban/rural, professional, gender and other categories in collectives that held part of a layered and fragmented sovereignty. But unlike its modern successor empires and nation states, it did not have to rely systematically on the essentialization of difference. Thus, good governance could legitimize the extension of hegemony beyond the original territory of political legitimization and charity played a central role in this. A material caritative complex sui generis linked the moral economy of charity, which legitimized local elites, with their own financing needs and those of the imperial polity via the financial acumen of religious and charitable institutions.

Abstract:
Background The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care has impacted health care systems, including employment, training, education, and professional regulation. It is incumbent on health professional associations to assist their membership in defining and preparing for AI-related change. Health professional associations, or the national groups convened to represent the interests of the members of a profession, play a unique role in establishing the sociocultural, normative, and regulative elements of health care professions. Objective The aim of this paper is to present a protocol for a proposed study of how, when faced with AI as a disruptive technology, health professional associations engage in sensemaking and legitimization of change to support their membership in preparing for future practice. Methods An exploratory multi-case study approach will be used. This study will be informed by the normalization process theory (NPT), which suggests behavioral constructs required for complex change, providing a novel lens through which to consider the agency of macrolevel actors in practice change. A total of 4 health professional associations will be studied, each representing an instrumental case and related fields selected for their early consideration of AI technologies. Data collection will consist of key informant interviews, observation of relevant meetings, and document review. Individual and collective sensemaking activities and action toward change will be identified using stakeholder network mapping. A hybrid inductive and deductive model will be used for a concurrent thematic analysis, mapping emergent themes against the NPT framework to assess fit and identify areas of discordance. Results As of January 2021, we have conducted 17 interviews, with representation across the 4 health professional associations. Of these 17 interviews, 15 (88%) have been transcribed. Document review is underway and complete for one health professional association and nearly complete for another. Observation opportunities have been challenged by competing priorities during COVID-19 and may require revisiting. A linear cross-case analytic approach will be taken to present the data, highlighting both guidance for the implementation of AI and implications for the application of NPT at the macro level. The ability to inform consideration of AI will depend on the degree to which the engaged health professional associations have considered this topic at the time of the study and, hence, what priority it has been assigned within the health professional association and what actions have been taken to consider or prepare for it. The fact that this may differ between health professional associations and practice environments will require consideration throughout the analysis. Conclusions Ultimately, this protocol outlines a case study approach to understand how, when faced with AI as a disruptive technology, health professional associations engage in sensemaking and legitimization of change to support their membership in preparing for future practice. Abstract:
Based on observations and in-depth interviews with Catholic Religious Education teachers in Italy, this sociological study tackles “spirituality” as a register of legitimization in their professional settings. Compared with more established topics of “religious culture”, the motives of “spirituality” appear as a lesser category of justification in teachers’ discourse in two significant aspects: teaching about “spirituality” as a necessary component of human experience, and talking about their own relationship to “spirituality” as proof of sincere commitment and/or professionalism. Thus, in the context of teachers’ labor, “spirituality” constitutes an ambivalent category that can serve the purposes of Catholic institutions as well as forms of criticism of authority.

Abstract:
In this paper, teachers’ knowledge regarding statistical competences and curriculum documents, mobilized in the Collaborative Group for the Training of Teachers in Statistical Education (MoSaiCo Edu) is highlighted. Considering the Discourse of the collective subject technique, the audio transcription of seven group meetings was analyzed. As a result, one can describe signs of mobilization of professional teaching knowledge related to the insertion of statistics in documents and textbooks. This was noticeable with regard to learning and skills developed by students, with regard to statistical competences, such as educational goals and with regard to the specificities and importance of context and the conceptual and procedural domain of Statistics. In this way, spaces for collaborative work among teachers provide opportunities for sharing and building teaching practices and understanding, favoring the proposition of categories and the legitimization of a specific basis for professional practice and teaching of Statistics.

Abstract:
Education as a purposeful cognitive activity of people to acquire knowledge, skills or competences, or their improvement, is considered by us as one of the key factors on the way to legitimization and further development of family business in Ukraine. To implement these issues, it is necessary to develop national curricula, determine the qualification standards of specialists relevant to this field of activity and to distinguish the definition and concept of "family business" in a separate area of domestic research. The purpose of family business research in any country is to study the patterns of family business development, to identify its national characteristics, problems of functioning, causes of their emergence and to identify effective strategies for solving problems in the context of global trends. We have explored the timeline of professional education in family business in the world, and found that this process began in the late 1980 s. The Matrix of Disciplines and Knowledge has been published on the recommendation of the Family Firm Institute (FFI). The main components of the educational environment of Ukraine in the professional training of family business professionals have been identified, systematized and characterized. We can say that the training of family business professionals in Ukraine is carried out mainly through business schools, distance learning, self-study, transnational education and stakeholders, in the complete absence of vocational, higher and postgraduate education. Higher professional education is capable of securing the acquisition of a complex of competencies as the realizing abilities of future specialists in family business. The national science is obliged to supply topical theoretical material for educational programs, to develop the methodology of family business research, to provide open access to practical results in accordance with the scheme "science - education - family business". Effective work of the scientific and educational communities is a decisive factor in the formation of professional staff for the country's family business.vironment in the formation of professional staff.

Abstract:
The 21st century is an age of mobility. Young Poles have also adapted to this trend – they migrate both abroad and within the confines of their own country. In the paper the author presents the migration to Polish academic cities, to which people arrive because of beginning their studies. But they do not only want to graduate from a university. Moving from their hometown entails too some bigger aims, such as launching a successful professional career, or staying and living in a big city and in consequence being a member of the metropolitan middle class. Academic education is considered due to its usefulness in gaining these aims (through the instrumental role of higher education) – and studies are more and more only a legitimization of a permanent migration to a metropolis.

Abstract:
Gender, class, and sexuality are intersecting categories of inequality and also social forces that shape meanings given to organizations, social institutions, identities, and images. The authors use Acker’s (2000) concept “regimes of inequality” to explore how gender, specifically masculinities, intersects with social class and sexuality in women’s soccer. The extent to which social relations are also situational and culturally specific can be revealed in part with the use of comparative studies. The story of women’s soccer in the Netherlands is one of struggle for resources, acceptance, visibility, and legitimization with little result, while in the United States that same struggle has resulted in visibility and the establishment of a professional women’s soccer league. In this article the authors explore several regimes of inequality that shape women’s soccer using cross-cultural comparisons.

Abstract:
PurposeThe study explores the use of professional investor relations (IR) practices in South African (SA) listed companies to understand which theories may be responsible for IR's adoption and growth in South Africa, an emerging economy. Therefore, this study evaluates shareholder value maximisation, stakeholder and legitimization theory and institutional isomorphism theory as possible theories to explain professional IR behaviour in SA listed companies.Design/methodology/approachThe study design is qualitative and exploratory, based on a questionnaire developed and sent to all companies listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE).FindingsThe results indicate evidence of isomorphic spread to SA environments from practices observed in the UK and the USA, which we find are mostly performed to promote shareholder interests. The data suggest some evidence that the communication needs of black economic empowerment and environmental, social and governance (ESG) investors are given priority, suggesting the utility of professional IR to obtain legitimisation from society. Contrary to expectation is that social media communication channels are not extensively used.Practical implicationsThe descriptive nature of this study may be valuable to IR practitioners to improve SA IR practises, while neglected legitimisation opportunities with regard to the needs of ESG and black economic empowerment shareholders may be fruitfully addressed by practitioners.Originality/valueThis study innovates in its use of legitimisation theory and isomorphism theory to develop the study's expectations. Social problems provide contextual elements unique to SA which provides a good opportunity to test the expectation of legitimisation theory's influence on professional IR practices.

Abstract:
Papers in this special issue offer a wide range of political economy and sociological perspectives to explain the development and impacts of short-term rentals (STRs) in European cities. Empirically, they provide insights regarding STR providers, socio-spatial impacts, and regulation. Authors reveal the professionalization of the sector vis-à-vis the connection between STRs and the wider financialization of housing. STRs are predominantly supplied by professional property managers as well as by middle-class individuals for which renting on digital platforms is their main professional activity. Furthermore, the increasing professionalization of hosts and the intrinsic competition among them is largely stimulated by the business model of digital platforms which has progressively favoured professional operators. Understanding how STRs are shaped by platform capitalism helps to explain the socio-spatial impacts of this market as well as why current regulations have not mitigated such impacts. In terms of impacts, contributions to this special issue document processes of displacement, gentrification, and how the penetration of visitors in neighbourhoods is experienced by residents as a process of loss and dispossession. However, due to the lobbying campaigns of professional operators and industry players, regulation has led to the legitimization of this new market rather than to the limitation of the activity. Therefore, the special issue challenges the use of a ‘sharing economy' and ‘peer-to-peer platforms’ as analytical categories, and, instead, provides evidence of why the STR market should be seen as part of the wider expansion of platform capitalism, consolidating the neoliberal and financialized urban paradigm.

Abstract:
In this article the analysis of the category legal thinking as a legal science term is carried out. Legal thinking is characterized as a phenomenon caused by socio-historical context. The author of this article points to paradigm dependency of legal thinking. Law paradigm causes the specific of the doctrinal legal thinking in national law system. The author states the presence of several paradigms in the legal thinking of domestic scientists. The analysis of modern law concepts gives the reasons to refer mentioned works to the paradigms of beingness, consciousness and the linguistic paradigm. Axel Honneth`s concept of mutual recognition based on linguistic paradigm can be considered as a methodological basis of doctrinal reflection and cognition of modern law. The practical importance of legal thinking concept can be shown using the legitimization and delegitimization of legal rules topic. In the article the main approaches to the problem of delegitimization of legal rules are investigated. The author justifies the approach to delegitimization in the legal thinking context. The explicit and implicit legitimization should be identified in the legal science. The level of legitimation decreases in case of absence of recognition of citizens as the legal communication subjects. The legal thinking of the professional legal community becomes more closed as the legal system develops. It can lead to delegitimization of law. Legal system loses the legitimacy quality because of using of exceptions in law which become the basic rules in legal system in some cases. Delegitimization of law arises when the number of normative-legal material increases and the demand for law decreases at the same time. The necessary condition of prevention of delegitimization of law in the conditions of growth of number of legal acts is the principle of deliberation in private and public law.

Abstract:
This article explores the dynamics and impact of the gender mainstreaming reform conducted within the European Social Fund in Poland in 2007–2013. It is based on qualitative interviews carried out with gender mainstreaming practitioners, both feminists and state administrators. The article examines factors enabling and hindering successful implementation of gender mainstreaming and discusses its potential positive spin-off effects. The analysed case suggests that civil servants’ strong professional ethics do facilitate progressive changes, whereas bureaucratic norms and non gender-specific values of particular public policies eventually hinder the effectiveness of the strategy. However, gender mainstreaming reforms, even if limited in time and undertaken in a technocratic manner, may serve for feminists as a unique entry point to state institutions, and further allow for changes to public organizations’ gender regimes. Gender mainstreaming may lead to an increase in the number of feminist allies within public administrations and give more legitimization to feminists’ demands on the state. Thus, the strategy may produce a destabilizing impact on public administration gender regimes.

Abstract:
Abstract The article argues that today publishing is no longer solely an institutionally bound professional practice of so-called gatekeepers. Through self-publishing via digital infrastructures, it has become a format of action for both amateurs and professional authors alike. The widespread possibilities of self-publishing arise, on the one hand, from the establishment of self-publishing platforms such as Kindle Direct Publishing, Lulu or Wattpad, the acceptance of which has increased significantly due to the development and successful marketing of reading apps such as Kindle or iPad. On the other hand, they arise from the omnipresent possibilities of interactive online media, i. e. through self-publishing on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Both forms of self-publishing are part of what has been referred to as the ›appification‹ and ›platformization‹ of knowledge economies. The determination of the relationship between publishing and posting remains a gap in self-publishing research, which this article seeks to address. The article defines ›ubiquitous publishing‹ as the sum of self-publishing practices that are situated within a continuum of publishing and posting and give rise to hybrid publication models. The concept of ubiquitous publishing is to be determined from the coexistence and linkage of everyday and professional self-publishing practices. The goal is to understand ubiquitous publishing as a platform-based modeling of self-publication that competes alongside institutionalized publishing landscapes, shapes them, and questions them. With the multiplication of self-publishing, an intertwining of literary production with its infrastructural conditions, of literature and its mediation, takes place. In the first section, the text argues that self-publishing is an everyday competency or literacy, and that it is accompanied by new forms of professionalization and legitimization. The historical classification of self-publishing within the service economy is considered in the second section. This reveals a dependence of professional self-publishers on the audience’s needs, mediated by the market. New procedures for generating resonance and increasing publication frequency result from this dependence. Analyzing the self-publishing and subscription project Der Teutsche Merkur by Christoph Martin Wieland in the second section shows that these procedures were already essential for self-published journals in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Through constellation with Rupi Kaur’s Instapoesie in the fourth section, common determining aspects of self-publishing emerge despite fundamental media-historical differences between analog and digital self-publishing. These include, above all, the procedures of serialization and (self-)commentary as well as the addressing of the audience. All of these procedures generate feedback between author and audience and allow mediation to become a constitutive component of the literary text. Against this background, self-publishing within digital infrastructures appears as a generally accessible social practice based on the socio-technical mechanisms of filtering and amplification. New procedures and standards for legitimizing literature and the literary are established. The article concludes that the concept of ubiquitous publishing is a significant aspect of the current state of self-publishing. It demonstrates the intertwining of literary production with its infrastructural conditions and reveals new forms of professionalization and legitimization. And it shows that self-published literature is always literature in mediation. The article contributes to the ongoing debate on the definition and understanding of self-publishing.

Abstract:
The article explores certain issues of strengthening public control over the activities of the judiciary as a prerequisite for restoring public trust in judicial institutions. The possibility of wider involvement of public representatives in the formation of selection commissions of judges, in particular in the formation of the composition of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, is being considered as an effective tool for fulfilling this task. Options for changing qualitative approaches to the formation of the composition of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine are being considered, including those involving the inclusion of non-judge representatives in its composition. The solutions proposed in the article are based on the practice of two European countries (the Netherlands and Lithuania) and the United States of America. These countries pay great attention to the involvement of the public in the process of selecting judges, as a necessary prerequisite for the legitimization of the judiciary and the formation of public trust. The article analyzes the changes that Ukrainian legislation went through in the part of forming the architecture of bodies that carry out the selection of judges. Separately, positive trends were noted in the effort to strengthen public control over the activities of the judiciary by starting the work of a new representative body of the Public Integrity Council, the purpose of which is to assist the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine in the selection of professional and honest candidates for the position of judges. The article also examines issues related to the professional affiliation of members of the selection commissions of judges and the search for a reasonable balance between the judicial part of said commissions, the professional legal community and representatives of the public who are not related to the legal sphere. This approach is considered as an important prerequisite for further democratization of judicial power.

Abstract:
Studies of professional legal activity stimulate methodological innovations that bring closer the disclosure of the theoretical concept and ethical-legal democratic transit. They are relevant to understanding the evolution and regime of interaction between power and society, based on the imperative of the rule of law. The social purpose of legal activity recognized as a condition for the rational organization of public-legal relations. Its objectivity conditioned by the real existence of the needs of society. The existence of a legal system presupposes the existence of the Bar as an element of it. It is not possible to guarantee the exercise of the rights of actors outside the actors. The influence of the moral renaissance factor, ethical and legal imperatives, mental archetypes of power – traditions, norms and values – in the process of formation and functioning of institutions of power, their perception and social legitimization must be taken into account. Ethics have a significant impact on the effectiveness of legal activities, support the system of social conditions and support the institutions of power, its brands, authority, image in the interaction of the state and civil society.

Abstract:
Context Athletic trainers pursue higher education to obtain positions in academia, which often include scholarship and/or teaching responsibilities. Previous research has investigated the preparation and transition phases for doctoral students moving from student to junior faculty member as well as their professional socialization. However, the reasons for the pursuit of a doctoral degree and doctoral students' career goals postgraduation are not yet understood. Objective To explore the motivational factors and attractors for the pursuit of a doctoral degree among athletic trainers in doctoral programs. Secondarily, to examine how doctoral experiences shape career goals and aspirations. Design Qualitative phenomenology. Setting Higher education institutions. Patients or Other Participants Twelve academic doctoral students (8 female, 4 male; 6.0 ± 4 years Board of Certification–certified; 5.0 ± 3.0 years clinical athletic training practice) completed the study. Main Outcome Measure(s) Participants completed a single one-on-one telephone interview, which was recorded and transcribed. Analysis followed the phenomenological paradigm. Credibility was established through peer review and multi-analyst triangulation. Results Past experiences, mentorship, and professional development served as motivators for pursuit of an academic doctoral degree. Past experiences were supported by (1) previous educational experiences and (2) time in a nonacademic role. Additionally, our participants' career aspirations were shaped through mentorship and legitimization during their doctoral programs. Conclusions Pursuit of a doctoral degree was primarily influenced by the previous educational experiences that provided students with exposure to responsibilities that accompany a faculty role. Strong mentorship helped support the decision to pursue a doctoral degree, as well as to develop a career plan. Engaging in the role of faculty member via an assistantship also supported the development of career plans.

Abstract:
Through this article the authors try to find a way of pedagogical consistency concerning theory, teaching and Gender Studies as an institutionalized subject. The authors use their positions as teachers of Gender Studies, professional historians, and poststructuralist feminists to integrate a theoretical consistency in the very methodology of academic courses. This is done through a presentation of what the authors see as problematic in the current curriculum, where they point out how chronology and an Identification with "Gender Studies" as a homogenous field are made mandatory through the structure of the course. Such a legitimization ofthe past combined with the lack of self-critical institutionalization of knowledge and an unproblematized identification with women/victims, runs the risk of turning feminist projects into moralistic productions of knowledge with a political agenda of ressentiment. By proposing minor changes to the curriculum, the authors begin an investigation of the possible effects of such changes and they come to the conclusion that an abandonment of chronology and consensus, replaced by genealogy and a sublimation of conflict, may have more political and corporeal effects than first anticipated. The power of mourning, as well as the power of laughing, are hence taken as possible and desired points of departure for a different pedagogical and political order.

Abstract:
This paper explores the implications of prevailing attitudes about language variety found in a case study of a large, university SHL program. First, a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach was employed to examine the ideological underpinnings of the presentation of varieties of Spanish (including those of U.S. Spanish) in textbooks used in the program. Second, discussions with focus groups of SHL instructors were conducted, transcribed, and analyzed to gain insight into the practices fostered by the SHL program related to language variety. The CDA findings show evidence of reinforcement of an ideology of a monolithic “standard” Spanish in the SHL textbooks and curricula, with only cursory attention paid to regional varieties of Spanish and, at times, implicit and explicit de-legitimization of U.S. varieties of Spanish. The focus group data indicates that instructors identify tension between: 1) the program’s stated goals, which are to validate the students’ Spanish varieties and to develop an academic or professional register of Spanish; and 2) classroom reality, in which the “standard” is the overwhelming focus and the students’ own “home varieties” of Spanish are at times devalued by the textbook and course materials. Finally, based on these results, some pedagogical recommendations to validate heritage learners’ Spanish as a resource, rather than a deficit, are discussed.

Abstract:
This paper presents a fresh approach to empirical moral economy through a case study of ‘financing water for all’ in global water governance. The period 2007–2011 can be understood as a process of purposive, collective re-making that occurred as the professional sphere’s various actors deployed, resisted and realigned distinct constellations of ‘moral common sense’ around the socio-politically fraught issue of paying for water. The research found that global water governance actors demonstrated significant agency to transform the moral economy by disabling and enabling particular forms of moral common sense with specific socio-political outcomes in mind. Namely, to normalize paying for water by shifting the degree of acceptability of contentious financial instruments, economic mechanisms and governance strategies: water pricing and tariffs, cost recovery, and private sector participation. The ascendance of new forms of moral common sense around the social object of paying for water enabled a shift away from impasse in the politics of ‘financing water for all’, particularly in regards to the association between free (or cheap) water, and moral and human rights to water. Indeed, the new constellation of moral common senses can be understood as having ‘made sense’ of paying for water as a means of realizing rights to water, for self and others. This in turn appeared to enable the re-legitimization of the private sector as a global water governance actor.

Abstract:
ObjectivesGlobal concern around over the counter availability of codeine containing products and risk of misuse, dependence and related harms are evident. A phenomenological study of lived experiences of codeine misuse and dependence was undertaken in Ireland, following the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland’s 2010 guidelines for restricted supply of non-prescription codeine containing products.MethodsIn-depth interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of adult codeine misusers and dependents (n=21), both actively using, in treatment and in recovery. The narratives were analysed using the Empirical Phenomenological Psychological five-step method (Karlsson, 1995). A total of 10 themes with 82 categories were identified. Two concepts at a higher level of abstraction above the theme-level emerged during the final stage of analysis. The concepts identified were ‘emotional pain and user self-legitimization of use’ and ‘entrapment into habit-forming and invisible dependent use’. These concepts were reported in different ways by a majority of participants.ResultsFindings are presented under the following themes: (1) profile and product preferences; (2) awareness of habit forming use and harm; (3) negotiating pharmacy sales; (4) alternative sourcing routes; (5) the codeine feeling; (6) the daily routine; (7) acute and chronic side effects; (8) social isolation; (9) withdrawal and dependence and (10) help-seeking and treatment experiences.ConclusionsThere is a public health and regulatory imperative to develop proactive responses tackling public availability of codeine containing medicines, risk minimisation in consumer self-treatment for pain, enhanced patient awareness of potential for habit forming use and its consequences and continued health professional pharmacovigilence.

Abstract:
This paper examines the dynamics of public art in Russia, explores the diversity of contemporary art forms beyond exhibition halls, and analyses the impact of public art on the image of “central” and “peripheral” areas, as well as on its role in urban communications between the main groups of interested parties. A review of various Russian studies provides an interdisciplinary look into the subject of public art and its evolution over time from a rather narrow definition to a wide variety of interpretations implying many new issues and concepts. Researchers attribute the increasing popularity of this artistic strategy to a combination of multidirectional factors, including the growing interest among municipal and regional authorities in public art as a driving force of territory development; a rising number of curatorial projects aimed at interacting with space and environment in the context of the festival and biennial movement and art residencies; the emergence of grassroots art organizations and initiatives as modes of making artistic or public statements. Remarkable progress in digital technologies prompted attention to the creative potential of digital forms in public art, which open up new possibilities for interaction at the interface of objective and virtual reality. Some of the conclusions suggest that further development of public art presupposes more attention to its social nature and the ability to create social ties through a polylogue between different groups of city dwellers. To encourage the development of urban art based on the principles of social justice, Russia needs to foster a culture of participation as opposed to social atomization. The creation of professional organizations, legitimization and support of grassroots initiatives and artistic self-organizations may prepare the groundwork for this process.

Abstract:
The article examines the artistic concept of happiness in the story “A Story about Yakim’s House” by V. Vynnychenko and considers the logic of the phased implementation of the theory of building a harmonious, i.e. happy marriage, actualized in the writer’s early diary entries. The research of them helps to determine that the author connects happiness as a fundamental ontological concept with the social institution of marriage, he reveals the problem of happy / unhappy family unions, which he subsequently projects onto the artistic and figurative plane and represents in “A Story about Yakim’s House”. It is noted that this story represents the writer’s artistic experiment to the project of a new family form. A range of factors enables the legitimization of the “free marriage” idea as a way to overcome disharmony and the determinants of the alternative scenario embodiment. Firstly, the traditional Christian morality and sacred commandments have to be rethought, since in a free union of spouses life should be regulated by a new morality and new ethical standards of behavior, in particular by the “honesty with oneself” idea as a result of harmonious coordination of rational and emotional principles. Secondly, the idea of the traditional marriage reforming begins with the recognition of female freedom, equality and independence, as well as her professional self-realization. Thirdly, the creation of a renewed family is determined by the option of an individual’s self-improvement, self-development and self-construction (“build yourself”), due to the balancing of the person’s inner world to establish harmonious relationships. According to these ideas, the writer criticizes marriage as an economic project. It is found that V.Vynnychenko’s “theory of happiness buildings”, which will later define his concordist ontological project, programs the restoration of balance in the “individual – nature” and “personality – society” systems through the vitality actualization and integration into the society.

Abstract:
The present study is devoted to the analysis of the legal background of the laics associations emergence and activity in the Kiev mitropolia in the second half of the XVI century, including church, parish and “honey” brotherhoods, guilds and collective patrons of orthodox churches. The aim of the work is to assess the nature and degree of secular and ecclesiastical legislation influence on the emergence and methods of legitimization of Orthodox religious associations in the second half of the XVI century. The church brotherhoods of the end of the XVI century were the result of the evolution of traditional territorial unions that arose on the Ukrainian-Belarusian lands even before the adoption of Christianity. The factors of the evolution were the spread and deepening of Christian practices, and later the entry of orthodox lands into the catholic Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Western European legal system assumed the written consolidation of legal customs and legal facts. In the contact orthodox-catholic zone there were closely related catholic professional and religious unions of laypeople, whose statutory documents became models for copying. Finally, the third factor was the influence of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, which provoked an increase in interest in the affairs of religion and the church among the orthodox laics and led to the emergence of church confraternities and confraternal movement. At the same time, the confraternal movement is a purely Orthodox phenomenon. Assessing the discrepancies between the church law norms and the confraternal ideology provisions, it should be emphasized that the confraternities rejected the norms that had the status of church custom, and in some provisions turned out to be closer to the canonical norm than the contemporary practice of the church.

Abstract:
The paper reveals the features of sociological theorizing offered by classical sociology, including M. Weber's concept. The thematic directions that became central to the German scholar's sociology are identified: modernization, rationalization, legitimization, etc.; their genesis is analyzed from the point of view of the philosophical (Baden School of Neo-Kantianism) and sociological (G. Simmel's concept of cultural forms) studios. It is emphasized that rationalization, which was first considered by M. Weber, becomes a cross-cutting theme in sociology up to the end of the twentieth century. Further development of the concept of rationalization takes place within the communicative turn, associated with the name of J. Habermas. The concept of constructing the social, taking into account the meaning that the author puts into his actions, becomes the first attempt of theoretical synthesis in the process of overcoming the methodological crisis in sociological science. M. Weber's sociology offers a departure from the "container approach" in the analysis of society, which was later realized within the world-systemic (A. G. Frank, I. Wallerstein, J. Arrighi, etc.) and synthetic (M. Archer, P. Bourdieu, E. Giddens, P. Sztompka, etc.) concepts. The problematic of a bureaucratization, formulated by M. Weber in the early twentieth century to describe the processes of formation of the modern state, acquires new relevance today in connection with the expansion of the "bureaucratic spirit" to commercial enterprises, built according to the network logic. The tendencies of (self-)management on the part of employees, which are accelerating due to the transition to the remote form of work. The author shows how processes of legitimation, which are necessary for the perception of changes in professional activity, simultaneously contribute to the fragmentation and disintegration of local social spaces.

Abstract:
This paper seeks to understand whether there is a concern in a municipal body as the Covilhã City Council to legitimize itself; gauge how it legitimizes the public processes of urgent matters, such as the Covid-19 process; and find out which categories of moral legitimacy suggested by Suchman (1995) are more important for the citizens of the municipality. In this case, legitimation through municipal communication was analyzed based on an in-depth interview with the professional responsible for communication, content analysis of press releases released by Covilhã City Council, and with data collected in four focus groups in order to understand the legitimating processes and expectations from the citizens' point of view. The results show that there an intention on legitimizing that is not translated in a strategic or tactical-planned way. Although there is an intense communication around the urgent public process, with about 14 press releases referring to it in the period of six months, these are limited to a more informative character and to the dissemination of activity and political decisions, rather than strategic or with contents that seek legitimization processes with implicit and/or symbolic dimensions. From the analysis of communication management, despite the professionalization and even a structure in the body in question, there is no decision-making autonomy, nor monitoring of the public or planning according to analyses. In this way, ad-hoc communication may mirror momentary mental strategies of the manager and the team of communication and public relations professionals, but does not consider an analysis of publics, nor the production of specific materials for each segment of citizens. These findings are in line with conclusions from studies of government communication, which suggest the need for a strategic and not only tactical approach to build intangibles (e.g. Sanders and Canel, 2013). Furthermore, the study reveals that citizens have expectations in various dimensions, including public communication in awareness-raising processes and strategies with preference to better suited tools to all age groups. As a conclusion we can state that there is no satisfaction of the communicative needs and consequently legitimacy is in question. The focus group analysis shows that younger citizens seek and expect communication processes at the level of the role of politicians and dialogical processes; the dialogical and procedural expectations decrease with the age of the groups. However, there is a predominance of structural legitimacy in all Portuguese groups, which mostly include national and regional bodies. The roles of local processes are left to the background. Consequential legitimacy has less relevance. The professional practice of communication in the public sector in the case of Covilhã Municipality regarding Covid falls short of what is proposed by the academic discipline. This study contributed to reinforce the idea that legitimacy and legitimation processes are always contextual and dependent on the environment and that, therefore, without research on publics, strategic management and strategic plans it is not possible to have an effective communication management in the public sector.

Abstract:
This qualitative study aims to explore the processes underlying subtle discrimination in the workplace. Based on 26 in-depth interviews with minority professionals of Turkish or Maghrebi descent in Flanders, we argue that subtle discrimination in the workplace is characterized by three important elements. First, subtle discrimination is ambiguous, and often involves disempowerment through apparent empowering behavior. Second, subtle discrimination is based on processes of power — normalization, legitimization of only the individual, legitimization as the Other and naturalization — which subtly, through everyday incidents, disempower minority individuals. Third, subtle discrimination in the workplace is linked to societal structures and discourses, which permeate the workplace through, and are reproduced by, workplace encounters.

Abstract:
Abstract Objective – Doctoral studies offer a unique phase in the development and legitimization of researchers, in which PhD students shift from the consumption to the production of knowledge. If librarians are to support this process in an evidence based manner, it is essential to understand the distinct practices of this user population. While recent reviews exist concerning the information behaviours of graduate students and researchers, there is little knowledge synthesis focused on the information literacies of PhD students in specific disciplines. The aim of this article is to explore the depth and breadth of recent evidence which describes the information literacies of students pursuing a doctoral degree in the health sciences. Methods – Strategic searches were performed in databases, hand-searched key journals, and reference lists. Records were screened independently by both authors based on pre-determined criteria. General trends within the literature were mapped based on the extraction of the following data: geographic location, population, study aims, and method of investigation. Further analysis of the articles included charting the academic disciplines represented, summarizing major findings related to PhD students in health sciences, and which databases indexed the relevant articles. Results – Many studies fail to treat doctoral studies as a unique process. PhD students are often grouped together with other graduate students or researchers. Studies tend to be based on small populations, and the number of PhD students involved is either unclear or only equals a few individuals within the entire group of study. In addition, of the limited number of studies which focus exclusively on PhD students, few conduct explicit examination of information practices in the health sciences. The result is that this user group is underrepresented within recent journal publications. Conclusion – This review highlights the need for more primary, in-depth research on the information literacies of PhD students in the health sciences. In addition, librarians are encouraged to share their knowledge in scholarly publications which can reach beyond their own professional circles.

Abstract:
Alternative therapies receive mixed recognition from biomedical professionals. In this article, a theoretical model of biomedical professionals' legitimization of alternative therapies is proposed, drawing on the sociologies of profession, science, and innovation. The model consists of four components corresponding to the different ways of legitimizing a certain alternative therapy: the biomedicine model, the paradigm shift model, the specialization model, and the technical adoption model. As a case study, biomedical professionals' legitimization of acupuncture is explained according to the model. The proposed model is designed to clarify the analysis of issues concerning the legitimacy of various alternative therapies as medical therapies. In summary, biomedical professionals' attitudes toward alternative therapies may be studied utilizing the four models in this article. These models may represent not only different patterns of legitimization among professionals but also different phases of the development of alternative therapies as a component of scientific knowledge. Biomedical professionals would first attempt to legitimize alternative therapies in the biomedicine model, and, if that is not feasible, they would shift to other models depending on various factors. If basic research advances and a paradigm shift can be expected, these professionals would move to the paradigm shift model, and if clinical research provides solid proof of its efficacy and safety, they would shift to the technical adoption model. If professionals inquire more into the theoretical frameworks of alternative therapies such as Chinese medicine and come to appreciate them as comprehensive and valid systems of medicine, they would shift to the specialization model. The analysis of biomedical professionals' legitimization of alternative therapies would also demonstrate the change of biomedical professionals' definition of science, scientific therapy, and scientifically proven efficacy. Some alternative therapies' mechanism of efficacy is not biomedically proven. Other alternative therapies' advocated effects might include the placebo effect and are difficult to evaluate by double-blind studies. Analysis of how biomedical professionals legitimize alternative therapies by utilizing the four models would clarify problems of establishing policies and regulations related to alternative therapies. Today, the emergence of highly effective alternative therapies seems to weaken the biomedicine model, and this makes current regulation centered around biomedicine obsolete. If the technical adoption model becomes prevalent, policy and regulations will mostly concern the effectiveness of alternative therapies. Practitioners of alternative therapies would be qualified not by theoretical knowledge but by the accuracy and safety of their practices. If the specialization model becomes strong, legal definition of medical practice would be expanded to include unorthodox systems of medicine. If the paradigm shift model is the most supported, there will be a problem of how to distinguish those alternative therapies that possibly trigger a paradigm shift and are worth legalizing from those that do not. Nevertheless, it is not easy to determine to what extent alternative therapies should be legalized on the basis of efficacy, to what extent the technical adoption model can be applied, to what extent therapeutic activity should have proven theoretical explanation as in the paradigm shift model or biomedicine model, and to what extent the current health care system should be open to non-biomedical schemes as in the specialization model. The most practical solution for now would appear to be for biomedical professionals and practitioners of alternative therapies to acknowledge that the basis of their legitimacy argument is varied. A temporary standard for efficacy and safety, as well as a standard level of knowledge of both biomedical and alternative theory required for its practice, should be set out for each individual therapy.

Abstract:
The paper seeks to explore main stages of the lifeline of S. Shelukhyn as well as characterize his public and political activities, the scholarly achievements, literary and publicistic legacy of the scholar and politician. His classical graduate studies, professional and career background of the lawyer-practician, a shaping of his social and political views and scholarly interests are revealed in the historical circumstances of that time. A particular attention has been paid to his public activities. He was an active founder and member of the socio-political organizations signi ficantly contributing into a development of the national movement. With the beginning of the Ukrainian Revolution, S. Shelukhyn as a delegate, a leading member of the Ukrainian Party of the Socialists-Federalists to the Ukrainian parliament, the Ukrainian Central Council (Rada), was particularly engaged in social and political work. After the proclamation of the UNR, holding high-ranking state posts, he opposed the federation with Russia. The positive aspects of his political life are establishment and activities of the public organi zations, scientific institutions, teaching at the Ukrainian high schools, a fruitful collaboration with the press. The S. Shelukhyn’s scholarly heritage is represented here. Specifically, the studies in history and origin of the Rus-Ukraine, history of the Ukrainian law (in particular, in the field of the criminal and civil law), political sciences and so on, are presented here. The article distinguishes a particularly active scholar ship of S. Shelukhyn in the émigré period. One of the biggest achieve ments of this historian and scholar is the making of argumentation basis for legitimization of the right of the Ukrainian people at restoration and building of the independent state. His beloved interest to literature and creative talent fostered poetry printing on the pages of many press publi cations, mainly of the citizen and patriotic motifs as well as translations of the belles lettres. His publicistic texts were a continuation of his social and political work. They conveyed to the readers his views, senti ments and beliefs shaping the self-consciousness of the Ukrainian nation and broadening horizons of knowledge. Keywords: Serhiy Shelukhyn, the Ukrai nian Central Council (Rada), social and political work, etatist ideology, the Ukrai nian law, emigration, scholarship, publicism, literary works.

Abstract:
The scientific article is devoted to current issues - the study of the development of nation-building and the unique model of interethnic and interfaith relations in Kazakhstan.Aim. To propose a periodization of the main stages of transformational and socio-political processes of nation-building in the Republic of Kazakhstan, at each of which the corresponding regulatory legal acts of their legitimization were adopted.Tasks. To analyze the periods of development of nation-building, changes in the sphere of interethnic relations in the republic over the years of independence, in accordance with the constitutional reform approved in a popular referendum on June 5, 2022. Conduct a political analysis of the transformation into the socio-political practice of the fundamental principle of the Basic Law of the country — “public harmony” and in general in the regulation of interethnic relations.Methods. To substantiate the results of the study, a variety of scientific methods were used, reflecting the peculiarities of the development of national development. Taking into account the specifics of ethno-political and integration processes in the social and regional context, determining their nature, comparative analysis, prolegomens, communication platforms and social networks were used. The methods of crowdsourcing, forsyth, road map are widely used.Results. The management of ethno-professional processes is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of the functioning of the State and the tasks of society. The competent definition of problem areas allows for the development of preventive measures and the avoidance of both inter-ethnic and intra-ethnic tensions and the minimization of negative impact on the development of State and religious relations. The proposed recommendations will improve the mechanisms and tools of ethno-political management in State national policy, consolidate the model of social harmony and national unity in political documents and legislative practice.Conclusions. The effective Kazakh model of ethno-confessional harmony is based on two main components: popular representation as a reflection of the political integration of Kazakhstanis and coverage of the entire spectrum of legal ethnicities and confessions in socio-political processes. The creation and activities of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, during the years of independence, as a key socio-political structure in national politics, acts as an instrument of direct democracy and is, in fact, a people’s representation.

Abstract:
Domestic violence is a worldwide crime recognized as a severe violation of Human Rights, which includes Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). The studies remark that the asymmetries in the social relations between men and women result in domination dynamics. Thus, this study analyzed the relationship between gender and IPV beliefs in the general population, university students, and healthcare/safety/justice professionals by comparing IPV legitimization between men and women and with age. The sample was composed by 3413 Portuguese participants, 1551 men (45.4%) and 1826 women (54.6%), aged 18 to 100 (M = 37.97; SD = 18.09), 1936 participants from the general population (56.7%), 866 university students [e.g., healthcare students] (25.4%) and 611 healthcare/safety/justice professionals [e.g., doctors, psychologists, police officers, lawyers] (17.9%). The sample filled out the Scale of Beliefs about Marital Violence (ECVC), a self-report scale on beliefs about IPV. Results confirmed our hypothesis that men have significantly higher levels of IPV legitimization than women. In accordance with our second hypothesis, significant positive correlations were found between age and IPV beliefs. As age increases, older people tend to be more tolerant of IPV, and young people tend to be less endorsing such IPV beliefs. Finally, we found the hypothesis that university students and healthcare/safety/justice professionals have lower levels of beliefs compared with other participants in the general population. Findings show that we need to work hard with the social evolution in men’s and women’s beliefs on IPV, reinforcing the importance of targeting IPV prevention by gender and age in the general population but also in students and professionals.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to develop a tool that is aligned with patients’ and health professionals’ needs to address sexual health in the context of anorectal malformations and Hirschsprung’s disease. A multiphased participatory action–research was conducted. First, an inventory of needs was made through interviews (11 patients, 11 professionals), three online focus groups (4 patients, 20 professionals), and a questionnaire (38 patients). Subsequently, four cocreation sessions with in total four patients and nine professionals were organized to translate the needs into a tool (in the form of a website). The websites’ functionality was assessed via a questionnaire ( n = 34). The website, directed to patients, their parents, and professionals, stimulates awareness, fills knowledge gaps, and shows possibilities for support. The website is expected to change restrictive attitudes toward sexual health and improve the legitimization of the topic needed for the allocation of resources and sexologists’ involvement in current care pathways.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the political, military, and demographic aspects of the formation of the Polish 1st Tadeusz Kościuszko Infantry Division in the Soviet Union in May 1943. It examines such factors as the number and composition of the contingent of Polish exiled settlers and prisoners of war relocated to the inland regions of the USSR after 1939; the first experience of the formation of the Polish army under the command of W. Anders in 1942–43; the efforts of the Soviet special services to select the leadership for the division and prepare the political ground for its formation. The characteristics of the personality, professional qualities, and political position of the division commander Zygmunt Berling as well as the facts from his biography related to cooperation with the Soviet authorities are also provided. The article analyzes the efforts of the Soviet side aimed at the international legitimization of the Polish 1st Infantry Division, associated with the scrupulous reproduction of the already established Polish military tradition. Much attention in the article is paid to the political and military circumstances of the baptism of fire of the Polish Division, which was given the name “the Battle of Lenino” in Polish historiography. It is shown that despite the rather dubious results of the two-day battle, Soviet diplomacy obtained an opportunity to demonstrate the Soviet-Polish “brotherhood in arms” at the Tehran Conference and received an additional reason for declaring its claim to the post-war structure of Poland. It is noted that the experience of formation of the Polish 1st Tadeusz Kościuszko Infantry Division was recognized as successful and became the first step in the formatting of Polish troops, which was rapidly gaining pace with the assistance of the Soviet Union.

Abstract:
The paper provides analysis of the teachings of K. Barth and S. Hauerwas on the relations between church and state. Unlike the Reformers, Swiss theologian proves the possibility of a positive connection between church and state and points out some ways of its realization. According to K. Barth, both church and state, belong to the Christological sphere, which legitimizes the latter for the church community, as well as calls for mutual service. According to S. Hauerwas, the criterion of power is the legitimization of violence, while the special feature of the church is the ability to make peace. In addition, Hauerwas demonstrates the danger of uncritical acceptance of dominant narratives on the example of liberalism. Thus, on the one hand, the paper demonstrates, the differences in the views of K. Barth and S. Hauerwas, and on the other hand, reflects on common grounds of both theologians, making this research highly relevant today.

Abstract:
Scientists and teachers have been discussing the peculiarities of dissemination of postmodernism in different areas of society, usually ignoring universities and scientific organizations. During the dominance period of the rationally-oriented intellectual culture, the communication methods among specialists have been developed, assisting to describe any phenomena. Postmodernism, factually revolutionizing communication and discourses, radically changes the communities producing them. Without understanding the essence of these changes, it becomes almost impossible to comprehend what, how and why they are engaged in universities and scientific organizations, and what is happening in economy and in politics? The mentioned transformations have been identified in the article as a phenomenon of the onset of narcissistic culture. Accepting the concept of high culture and a multitude of local cultures, it is reasonable to note the increasing processes of the cultural patterns, which transfer between different areas of private and public life, which more and more complicate being of an individual in culture, when, in particular, the expansion of human freedom is accompanied by enhancing the control over him. Imagine a carnival unfolding in a space arranged like a rhizome (fractal). In this way, from the deconstruction of concepts we move on to the deconstruction of slogans, which, presumably, served as a source for a new type of public perturbation from the end of the 80s of the 20th century till the present time. In modern universities, research institutes, entrepreneurship, politics along with liberal values a large-scale dissemination of narcissistic culture took place. The slogan Science Must Serve the People is being deconstructed. Thus, narcissistic culture unfolds beyond the boundaries of this slogan. At the same time, the carriers of narcissistic culture belonging to different generations, educational and academic statuses become not only carriers of new patterns of behavior, but pose themselves in a very special way in society. Individualization beats the standards, including professional ones. Recognizing that culture is an external factor to subjects, mainly predetermining collective memory, as well as collective thinking and imagination (expectations), and the transition from mass to narcissistic culture changes the social roles and transforms the society. Even in elite universities professionalism is squeezed out in order to achieve the needs for convenience and comfort. The loss of the importance of professionalism in the environment causes a response - self-isolation (absenteeism) of specialists. In the field of entrepreneurship, replacing mass culture with a narcissistic one required new artistic models, a change in behavior style, and legitimization of hedonism and egocentrism. Perhaps this is the reason for the decline in the world economic growth rates. Under the prevailing conditions a healthy lifestyle becomes a necessary setting for meeting certain social and political indicators. There has been a dramatic cultural shift in electoral democracy. It is no longer important to ‘enrapture the hearts and souls’, but to be in admiration of yourself and your close environment. Absenteeism is an immanent feature of narcissistic culture, leading the individual to alienation from the political life of the society. Narcissistic culture has always existed, but postmodernism served as a unique medium for its dissemination. Despite numerous criticisms of narcissistic culture, it brings a high diversity to all areas where it penetrates, and this diversity can act as a trigger mechanism to the beginning of a new round for the development of mankind. Narcissistic culture in the 20th century is an external factor changing the flow of all social processes, including economic, political, and social ones. A project ignoring the peculiarities of cultural narcissism discussed above is doomed to failure.

Abstract:
Purpose Conversations surrounding gender are sweeping the globe as the voices and lived experiences of people are being heard and shared at unprecedented rates. Discourses about gender in advertising are embedded in cultural narratives and legitimatized by a broad system of institutional structures and actors, at both macro and micro/consumer levels. This study aims to explore how consumers (one type of institutional actor) engage in legitimizing/delegitimizing messages of gender in the marketplace. Design/methodology/approach This research draws on a qualitative approach, specifically the use of in-depth interviews with men across three global contexts. Findings This research identifies the ways in which men engage in (de)legitimizing messages of masculinity in advertising such as reiteration, reframing, ascribing to alternate logics and prioritizing personal norms. Research limitations/implications Across three contexts, this research theorizes the (de)legitimization of gender ideals in advertising and situates consumer narratives within broader institutional forces, providing a holistic understanding of the phenomenon. Practical implications Understanding the ways in which individuals either accept or reject gendered ideals in media aids advertising and marketing professionals in tailoring messages that resonate with audiences. Social implications Understanding how individuals negotiate their gender and the messages they deem as legitimate are crucial to understanding gender issues related to consumer welfare and public policy. Originality/value While research has examined advertising practitioners’ views regarding gender from an institutional perspective, research on how consumers construct and maintain the legitimacy of gendered messages in the marketplace is scarce. This research theorizes and illustrates the (de)legitimization of gender ideals across three contexts.

Abstract:
Serious games are designed to educate, train, or persuade their players on specific topics and issues. While a lot of studies have sought to prove the effects of these games, the overall image and legitimization of serious games has not benefited fully from these efforts. Indicating that the issue stems from the difference between the captive audience exposed to games in effects studies and the contexts in which people come to play serious games in everyday life, the current article sketches out the research that needs to be performed before this gap can be filled. Three theoretical perspectives are offered, in turn looking at serious games as forms of (promotional) communication, personal media experiences, and technological innovations. This analysis results in insights relating to (among others), how the identity of serious games might hinder their diffusion, how expected gratifications could fail to match the intentions of these games, and what could cause someone to ‘adopt’ a serious game. Based on the insights gained by applying these lenses, potential factors are listed and linked to methodologies that could prove or disprove their importance. These methodologies involve quantitative and qualitative investigations to create a deeper picture of how potential players approach serious games. The article concludes with open questions to investigators and industry professionals generated from this process.

Abstract:
Wheelchair dance is an important form of disability art that is still subject to significant levels of ableism and art exclusion. Wheelchair dancers face challenges finding teachers and choreographers who can accommodate their needs, documenting and sharing choreographies that suit their body shapes and their assistive technologies. In turn, this hinders their ability to share creative expressions. Accessible resources and communication tools could help address these challenges. The goal of this research is the development of a visualization system grounded on Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) that notates movement quality while opening new horizons on perceptions of disabled bodies and the artistic legitimacy of wheelchair dance. The system uses video to identify the body landmarks of the dancer and wheelchair and extracts key features to create visualizations of expressive qualities from LMA basic effort. The current evaluation includes a pilot study with the general public and an online questionnaire targeting professionals to gain feedback supporting practical implementation and real-world deployment. Results from the general public evaluation showed that the visualization was effective in conveying basic effort movement qualities even to a novice audience. Expert consulted via questionnaire stated that the tool could be employed for reflective evaluation, as well as performance augmentation. The LMA visualization tool can support the artistic legitimization of wheelchair dancing through education, communication, performance, and documentation.

Abstract:
The statement of basic materials. The history of the adoption of Christianity by Kyivan Rus from the very beginning shows close ties with the monastic republic on Mount Athos. Researchers testify that Mount Athos was already the center of enlightenment and culture of Kyivan Rus. Only in this way does it become clear that Antony Pecherskyi was not a historical accident that suddenly fell from the sky like a star. Not only in Kyiv, but also in other cultural and political centers, monasteries appear in the context of the Athos heritage. XV century became catastrophic for the Byzantine Empire. But Athos retained relative autonomy. In the 16th century it is Volyn that becomes the spiritual and educational center of connection between the Ukrainian land and Mount Athos. The decline of Byzantium also affected the history of Ukrainian lands. The gradual strengthening of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth led to the beginning of projects to absorb Orthodox culture. The Union of Brest in 1596 provoked a movement of Orthodox spiritual and cultural resistance. And Athos, with the tradition of the Hesychasts, fulfilled his spiritual mission. The Athos influence on the literary works of Ukrainian figures was direct. S. Shumylo claims that Elder Ioann Vyshenskyi was the brightest personality of the Orthodox movement in Ukraine in the 17th century. His spiritual and literary work is a century ahead of the forerunners of the “philokalic revival” in Orthodoxy of the 18th-19th centuries. The works of I. Vyshenskyi are deeply imbued with ascetic and hesychastic motifs. But he was not only an experienced practitioner of the incessant Jesus prayer, but also tried to instill the hesychastic tradition in his homeland. It was from this that he wanted to build a spiritual and educational system in Orthodox monasteries according to Athos customs. The Ukrainian hesychastic revival had not only a religious and cultural-political influence. He was a statesman. The direct influence on the formation of Ukrainian statehood is confirmed by the blessing and, in fact, the legitimization of the “holy war” for the defense of Orthodoxy by the well-known Aphonite Patriarch of Constantinople Athanasius, who twice met with Bohdan Khmelnitsky and who ended his life in the Cossack Mgar monastery. The participation of Aphonites not only in the spiritual, but also in the political life of Ukraine was systematic and widespread. The 17th - 18th centuries also had a significant influence of the hesychastic tradition on all levels of Ukrainian society, from the spiritual and political elite to the masses. This is what can explain the phenomenon of H. Skovoroda.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to focus on conceptualizing the origin of legitimacy, the legitimation process and its trustworthiness toward the people, regulators, society and stakeholders. In achieving the purpose of the study, an inclusive research gap concerning the roles of the Shariah Supervisory Board (SSB) as a Shariah regulatory authority or an internal mechanism of Shariah Governance Framework (SGF) in the development and formation of Islamic financial institutions (IFIs) would also be addressed. Design/methodology/approach The paper implements an analytical approach to investigate the legitimation process of SSB, and its presence, significance, as well as credibility to the stakeholders. Findings This study proposes an additional authority of legitimacy, namely, SSB/Shariah regulatory authority, along with regulators, professionals and people. These could be derived from the internal mechanism of Shariah Governance (SG) practices of IFIs. The study also proposes another type of legitimacy (ethical/Shariah legitimacy) that derives from the organizational SG practices through its internal mechanisms. The formation of SSB is mandatory and more significant for the isomorphic identification of IFIs, SG system, legitimacy and broader acceptance to stakeholders. Research limitations/implications The rational argument shows that SSB legitimates the overall functions of IFIs, SG practices, processes and structures. It is more apposite because it has substantial validity, dominance, recognition and acceptability along with three external bodies. Besides, IFIs and their SG do not have the proper value to the general people, society, regulators and other stakeholders without the legitimization of SSB. Thus, theorists and academicians may consider SSB as the fourth party of legitimacy along with three legitimacy providing authorities (regulators, professionals and people). Originality/value The paper focuses on illustrating and extending the border knowledge concerning the legitimacy from SG and how do SSBs legitimize IFIs and enhance their credibility to the general people, government, society and other stakeholders. The paper first clarified the internal legitimacy concerning SGF and contributed to the area of Islamic finance, legitimacy, institutional theory, legitimacy theory and internal legitimacy.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the relationship between interwar Ukrainian political emigrants and local authorities in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Yugoslavia). A comparative analysis of the attitude of the Yugoslav authorities towards Russian and Ukrainian emigrants was conducted. The Russophilia of Yugoslav authorities, who viewed the Ukrainian question through the lense of the Russian emigrants, was described. The idea of Pan-Slavism had been spreading in the Balkans for a long time, which facilitated the legitimization of friendly relations between the southern Slavs (primarily Serbs) and Russians, whom Serbs considered as protectors from the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires. Yugoslavia sided with the anti-Bolshevik White Movement, an ally of the Entente, which had a positive impact on the situation of Russian emigrants. The young state was in need of professionals with a good command of foreign languages and European culture. Many emigrants met those requirements. Therefore, in the early 1920s, several thousands of emigrants worked in the public service. The reigning Karadjordjević dynasty had marital ties with the Romanov dynasty. A former Russian diplomat was among advisers to the king and the head of government. The immigration from the former Russian Empire was addressed by the Royal Court as well as several ministries and central government institutions. Direct support to the immigrants was provided by the State Commission for Assistance to Russian Refugees. Yugoslavia was a center of political and religious immigration for Russians and a provincial center for Ukrainian emigration. It is concluded that the Yugoslav authorities did not distinguish Ukrainians from Russian emigrants, therefore, any specific policy towards them was not carried out. The degree of interaction of Ukrainian emigrants with local authorities in Yugoslavia varied geographically (Slovenia and Croatia, on the one hand, and Serbia and Macedonia, on the other) and in time (in the first half of the 1920s and from the mid-1920s until the beginning of World War II). Keywords: authorities, emigration, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, Yugoslavia.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to examine how myths, narratives and biases referring to the recent history are born and developed in nowadays Latvia, supported by the analysis of the case study of the legacy of KGB and its actualization in the public discussion landscape focusing on the relationship of KGB and artists and cultural workers. One of the main criteria for narrowing the research subject to regarding only the relationship between representatives of the fields of arts and culture and KGB is that those particular relationship cases have caused the most heated discussions in mass media and general public, mostly due to the undeniable public ‘visibility’ of the aforementioned professionals as well as due to personal in-depth connection of society members with art products, artists and cultural workers via artistic preferences, engagement with cultural processes, individual contribution to profes- sional and amateur arts, emotional links, memories etc. Another important aspect to be considered is the strong connectedness of arts and culture with the state apparatus, as throughout history arts and cultural production has served as a propaganda tool, putting forward regime ideology and granting a certain kind of ‘power legitimization’ as supported by entertainment industry. In order to get a deeper insight into the formation of the myths, narratives and biases referring to the relationship between artists and cultural workers in nowadays Latvia, the authors of the study have combined empiric data analysis based on the research project by the Government Commission for KGB Research at the University of Latvia, the purpose of which was to prepare KGB card files for public access on the website of the National Archives of Latvia, and qualitative media and public discussion narrative analysis, focusing on how certain aspects referring to Soviet legacy in general and specifically to cooperation between artists and cultural sector workers and KGB have been framed and portrayed in actual social memory representations.
