Abstract:
Purpose The present study aims to describe the implementation of a facilitated dialogue model intended to improve communication across professional logics and knowledge boundaries in two units of a large health-care organization in Sweden. Design/methodology/approach This is a mixed-methods study with interviews, field observations and follow- up questionnaires that were conducted during the implementation process. Findings The conclusion drawn in this study is that it is possible to change and improve the dialogue between health-care professionals with the help of a tailored, facilitated dialogue model. The authors found that different professional logics can indeed meet and share perspectives if the right conditions are provided. Moreover, an improved dialogue between different professional groups may contribute to work satisfaction, engagement, social cohesion and communication between professionals. Practical implications This study shows that the right organizational conditions, such as support from managers, must exist if the model’s inherent possibilities are to be used. Inhouse facilitation may be a sustainable model for facilitated workplace dialogue when its implementation is supported by the overall organization. Originality/value The contribution is an empirically based analysis of a new form of model for mediating perspectives within an organization with distinct professional roles. This study shows how, under the right conditions, the model can contribute to a perspective awareness and thus a more mature work organization.

Abstract:
Abstract Awareness of the benefits of sustainable construction practices has been acknowledged as the fundamental principle that underlies its implementation. This survey study examined the level of awareness of the benefits of sustainable construction practices among building construction stakeholders and the strategies for optimising the awareness level through the use of questionnaire. The Mann–Whitney U Test result revealed that there was significant difference in the awareness level of benefits of sustainable construction practices between building professionals and non-professionals, in spite of a general moderate high level of awareness; due to difference in the training background and experience of the professionals and non-professionals. The Relative Importance Index (RII) result further showed that these differences could be narrowed through the adoption of 12 strategies for promotion of awareness. For maximum optimisation, the study suggested that six high level importance strategies had to be operationalised. However, when these are not readily available or very difficult to apply, alternative medium-high level importance strategy could be adopted. Thus, since non-professional stakeholders such as clients and non-professional contractors do not have opportunity of learning as professionals, the study suggested that the professionals should engage in such strategies as community or professional group engagement and local partnership with the non-professional stakeholders so as to create an interface that would promote awareness of benefits of sustainable construction practices among the stakeholders. Similarly, relevant authorities, such as government agencies and regulatory bodies need to embark on other alternative strategies such as advertisement promotion, etc.

Abstract:
ObjectivesTo assess awareness of external auditory exostosis (EAE) among Australian surfers.MethodsThis is a cross-sectional observational study, assessing professional and recreational Australian surfers. Currently, active surfers over 18 years of age, surfing year-round, were eligible to participate. After initial screening, individuals were asked to complete a questionnaire. All included volunteers underwent bilateral otoscopic examination, to assess the presence and severity of EAE.ResultsA total of 113 surfers were included in the study and were divided into two groups, based on surfing status: 93 recreational surfers and 20 professional surfers. Recreational surfers were significantly older (p<0.005), more experienced (greater years surfing; p<0.005), with lower prevalence of otological symptoms (p<0.05). The most common symptoms were water trapping, impacted wax and hearing loss. Prevalence of EAE was high for both groups (95% in the professional surfers and 82.8% in the recreational surfers); however, recreational surfers had mild grade EAE (grade 1) as the most common presentation, as opposed to professionals who had severe grade EAE (grade 3) as the most common presentation (p<0.05 between groups). Awareness of the term ‘surfer’s ear’ was high for both groups, as was knowledge of prevention options. However, fewer considered the condition to be preventable, and an even lower number reported regular use of prevention methods.ConclusionAustralian surfers had a high level of awareness of EAE; however, few reported using prevention methods, despite having a high prevalence of the condition. Health practitioners should screen susceptible individuals in order to recommend appropriate preventive measures.

Abstract:
The paper describes the development of the 1998 revision of the Psychological Society of Ireland's Code of Professional Ethics. The Code incorporates the European Meta-Code of Ethics and an ethical decision-making procedure borrowed from the Canadian Psychological Association. An example using the procedure is presented. To aid decision making, a classification of different kinds of stakeholder (i.e., interested party) affected by ethical decisions is offered. The author contends (1) that psychologists should assert the right, which is an important aspect of professional autonomy, to make discretionary judgments, (2) that to be justified in doing so they need to educate themselves in sound and deliberative judgment, and (3) that the process is facilitated by a code such as the Irish one, which emphasizes ethical awareness and decision making. The need for awareness and judgment is underlined by the variability in the ethical codes of different organizations and different European states: in such a context, codes should be used as broad yardsticks, rather than precise templates.

Abstract:
Abstract Objectives This study investigated information security behaviors of professionals working in the public health sector to guide policymakers toward focusing their investments in infrastructure and training on the most vulnerable segments. We sought to answer the following questions: (1) Are certain professional demographics more vulnerable to cybersecurity threats? (2) Do professionals in different institution types (i.e., hospitals vs. primary care clinics) exhibit different cybersecurity behaviors? (3) Can Internet usage behaviors by professionals be indicative of their cybersecurity awareness and the risk they introduce? Methods A cross-sectional, anonymous, paper-based survey was distributed among professionals working in public health care organizations in Kuwait. Data were collected about each professional's role, experience, work environment, cybersecurity practices, and understanding to calculate a cybersecurity score which indicates their level of compliance to good cybersecurity practices. We also asked about respondents' internet usage and used K-means cluster analysis to segment respondents into three groups based on their internet activities at work. Ordinary least squares regression assessed the association between the collected independent variables in question on the overall cybersecurity behavior. Results A total of 453/700 (64%) were responded to the survey. The results indicated that professionals with more work experience demonstrated higher compliance with good cybersecurity practices. Interestingly, nurses demonstrate higher cybersecurity aptitude relative to physicians. Professionals that were less inclined to use the internet for personal use during their work demonstrated higher cybersecurity aptitude. Conclusion Our findings provide some guidance regarding how to target health care professional training to mitigate cybersecurity risks. There is a need for ensuring that physicians receive adequate cybersecurity training, despite the opportunity costs and other issues competing for their attention. Additionally, classifying professionals based on their internet browsing patterns may identify individuals vulnerable to cybersecurity incidents better than more discrete indicators such as age or gender.

Abstract:
The aim: To analyze cultural conditionality of mental health care practice; to explore the relationship between cultural awareness of mental health practitioners, their professional experience and professional status. Materials and methods: It was hypothesized that cultural competence is expected to emerge with professional experience of mental health practitioners. The Sociocultural Awareness Questionnaire was administered to mental health care practitioners – counselors, clinicians, and therapists – (N=62), aged 27 to 65, with professional work experience from 1 to 25 years. The majority of the respondents were from Kyiv (Ukraine). Results: There is no significant correlation between the duration of the period of professional activity of mental health care practitioners and their ideas concerning cultural awareness (r = -0.084, p = 0.515). In the same way there is no statistically significant differences (U = 397.500, p = 0.866) in cultural awareness between two groups of Mental Health care practitioners based on a professional status criterion. Conclusions: No professional experience, nor status are the basis for the sociocultural awareness of mental health practitioners. The assumption that cultural competence is expected to emerge with experience has not been confirmed during the pilot study.

Abstract:
Background: Congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) is known to cause childhood deafness, neurodevelopmental disability and death. Simple hygiene precautions are effective in reducing maternal risk of CMV infection. Objective: To review i) awareness of CMV infection and available primary prevention strategies both in the community and amongst health professionals ii) available cCMV information sources in the literature, grey literature and published professional guidelines. Methods: Scoping study to i) identify literature pertaining to cCMV awareness amongst parents and health professionals using MedLine and CINAHL databases via EBSCO ii) review one high income country’s guidelines and recommendations regarding cCMV infection and pregnancy (example country Australia) iii) grey literature for parental information. Results: Worldwide awareness of cCMV and of available prevention strategies amongst women and health professionals are poor. Findings internationally suggest at least half of maternity care health professionals do not routinely provide advice to women regarding simple hygiene precautions that can reduce their risk of infection during pregnancy. Though information resources regarding cCMV are available, they are frequently not included within general healthy pregnancy advice and require individuals to search for ‘congenital cytomegalovirus’. Conclusion: cCMV is a preventable cause of serious congenital disability and death. Prevention opportunities are being missed because most women are not aware of cCMV or how to reduce their risk of infection in pregnancy, in part due to poor health professional awareness. New strategies to disseminate cCMV information to the community and to support health professionals to embed cCMV advice within routine pregnancy counselling is required.

Abstract:
Despite the numerous implications of non-compliance with safety practices in construction projects, there are still reports of a low level of compliance with safety rules on construction sites. The study seeks to investigate the awareness level on the implications of non-compliance with safety practices among professionals in construction projects. From the existing literature, two major types of implications namely; direct and indirect cost implications of non-compliance with safety rule were investigated. Questionnaires were used to elicit information from respondents. A hypothesis that examines the differences in the level of awareness on the implications of non-compliance with safety practices among construction professionals was postulated. Kruskal-Wallis test was used to test the hypothesis. The findings show that the awareness level on the implications of non-compliance with safety practice among each professional is high and that there are significant differences in the level of awareness on six implications of non-compliance with safety practices; ‘physical injury/fatality to persons’, ‘workmen’s compensation’, ‘liability insurance premiums, ‘low morale of supervisors and workers’, ‘costs of delay’ and ‘time of cost’. The study concludes that professionals are aware of the implications of non-compliance with safety practices and their professional background affects the awareness level of six of the implications of non-compliance with safety practices. The study contributes to knowledge by identifying the six implications of non-compliance with safety practices where disparity exists in the awareness level among construction professionals. In cases where disparity exists in the awareness level among professionals, construction firms should adopt group discussion as a means of sensitization to increase awareness levels.

Abstract:
In an educational milieu student learning outcomes are directly related to teacher professional identity (TPI) i.e. improvement in the TPI will bear a direct positive effect on the learners’ academic achievements. Current study focuses on the development of TPI of English as a Foreign Language Teacher at English Language Institute (ELI) of a Saudi Arabian university through an in-service Cambridge English Teachers (CET) Professional Development (PD) program (CET-PD). Five determinants of TPI - Knowledge of Teaching Context (KCT), Collegial Collaboration (CC), Teaching Practices (TPs), Teacher Self-Efficacy (TSE), and Teacher Agency (TA) were studied before and after the PD program. Retrospective pretest-posttest research design was employed for addressing the research question: whereas responses on the five determinants were elicited from 120 participants through a self-administered questionnaire before and after the CET-PD program. Due to non-normality of data, a non-parametric statistic test-Wilcoxon signed Rank test was employed to analyze the collected data using SPSS. Results of the study revealed that three determinants of TPI - KCT, TSE, and TPs exhibited larger differences; whereas, for CC the differences were moderate and for TA the differences were minimal. By and large, due to in-service CET- PD program TPI exhibited improvement. The results of the study will be beneficial for teacher trainers to focus more on the teachers’ awareness of the learners’ and institutional contextual knowledge in a culture embedded in conservative norms. This study is a part of the quantitative phase of an ongoing Ph.D. project which employs mixed method convergent design.

Abstract:
The communicative component of the investigator’s professional activities is a dominant one, as it demonstrates the employee’s ability to organize work on the basis of professionally balanced communication with the objects of interaction. The stage of obtaining higher education in institutions with specific learning environment is a sensitive period for the development of the main sociogenic structures of personality and the development of professional identity of future professionals. This period is characterised by a purposeful mastering of the system of professional knowledge and skills, formation of a holistic view of the professional community, which results in awareness of professional readiness. The use of training technology in the training of investigators helps to increase the efficiency of the professional training process, based on the basic principles of personality-oriented education. The aim of our research is to study the process of formation of components of communicative competence in future investigators of prejudicial inquiry agencies with the help of training technologies. Appropriate psychodiagnostic tools were used to solve this purpose, which was tested during the training of specialists for prejudicial inquiry agencies. Most of the respondents stated the existence of satisfaction with participating in the training courses, awareness of the importance of its informativeness and practical orientation. Post-training testing emphasized the participants’ rethinking of the value of interpersonal relations; growing desire to help and show warmth and friendliness in relations with others; the expediency and effectiveness of the use of cooperation and compromise in resolving conflict situations within a professional and personal environment.

Abstract:
The article discusses the issue of effective training for crime prevention and detection among Ukrainian police officers. Notably, it requires professional knowledge and skills to be developed at a certain level, which means the need for high professional development and a certain level of self-awareness. Thus, training, retraining, and morale of the future specialist are some of the determinatives for the successful completion of the missions that police encounter. Special features of the professional identity of the future police specialist have not been defined and structured yet. The purpose of this study is to highlight the empirical study on professional self-awareness findings, which cover its content and structure, as well as to analyse the authorial model of content and structural components of professional self-awareness among future police professionals that was developed for studies in higher educational institutions. The study analysed the problem of future police officers’ professional identity and devotion to the organisation. The main research methods included the methods of S. Schwartz’s theory of basic human values; methods of R. Cattell’s 16 personality factor model; methods A. Rean and V. Yakunin’s diagnostics of the motives of students’ learning in modification of N. Badmaeva; methods of V. Stephenson’s “Q-sorting” in diagnosing the main trends of behaviour in a real group and ideas about themselves; A. Zverkova and E. Eidman’s test of volitional self-control; R. Schwarzer and M. Jerusalem’s scales of general self-efficacy; methods of N. Hall’s emotional intelligence diagnostics, analysis of the collected data. As a result, during the period of professional training in accordance with the programme methodology established by the authors, future police officers of the control sample developed such personal and social qualities as work capacity, proactivity, respect for social norms and adherence to them.

Poverty simulations are used increasingly in academic settings to expose health professional students to experiences of those living in poverty; therefore, the impact, content, and context of these simulations should be examined. Bridging the Gaps-Pittsburgh uses a full-day poverty simulation (Experiential Poverty [EP] Exercise) to expose health professional students to structural realities and experiences of those living in poverty in the United States as part of an intensive, interdisciplinary, community-partnered summer internship program. Students engage in the EP Exercise in one of 8 weekly didactic and reflective sessions throughout the 8-week, full-time internship. To measure the impact of the EP Exercise on student learning, Bridging the Gaps-Pittsburgh developed a measure (Poverty Attitude, Awareness, and Understanding Survey [PAAUS]), including seven questions to explore student awareness of aspects of poverty and two questions regarding attitudes about poverty students carry into their future practice. Using five cohorts of PAAUS data over 5 years, we analyzed the changes in attitudes and understanding about poverty among health professional students pre- and postparticipation in this program. For one recent cohort, we conducted an additional posttest to assess the impact of the poverty simulation as distinct from other programmatic experiences. Finally, we share qualitative feedback from student evaluations following the EP Exercise. We provide evidence of the statistically significant impact of the EP Exercise on students’ awareness, attitudes, and understanding of poverty and indicate the importance of considering the context of poverty simulations to improve health professional student preparation to work with populations experiencing poverty.

Dentists are one among the medical professionals who often encounter complex ethical issues. Playing the role of a health professional, business enterpriser and academician they often run into specific and conflicting ethical demands in practice and research. This cross-sectional study was conducted among dental professionals attached to educational institutions and private practitioners. A total of 95 participants, including private practitioners, faculty members, and post-graduate students, were recruited. A pre-validated, questionnaire containing questions related to awareness and perception in dental ethics was administered. Descriptive statistics was done to report the level of awareness and perception of dental professionals. About 65% of post-graduate professionals had awareness in clinical ethics when compared to undergraduate professionals who had 58% awareness. However, 75% of undergraduate professionals had awareness in research ethics compared to post-graduate professionals with 70% awareness. There was no difference in the perception level among graduate and post-graduate professionals. The awareness of dental ethics varied among dental professionals. There is a need to introduce specific continuing dental educational (CDE) programs to promote knowledge on dental ethics and dental jurisprudence to save dentist and their patients from encountering uneventful situations.

Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze the influence of professional values on attitudes towards professional ethics, as well as the influence of sociodemographic variables on attitudes and professional values in future physical therapy professionals. A total of 231 physical therapy students (53% women; mean age 22.30 (SD = 5.13 years; age range 18–49)) participated. Attitudes towards professional ethics (Attitudes Questionnaire towards Professional Ethics in Physical Therapy) and professional values (Axiological Estimation of Professional Values Questionnaire) were analyzed. Linear regressions were conducted to examine: (i) the statistical prediction of attitudes as a dependent variable, with professional values as independent variables; (ii) whether sociodemographic variables had a relationship with attitudes or professional values. Professional values explained 6.5% of the variance of attitudes towards professional ethics (F(1,230) = 16.08, p < 0.001)). In regard to sociodemographic characteristics, age explained 3% of the variance of attitudes (F(1,230) = 7.11, p < 0.01) and presence of relatives in healthcare explained 1.9% of the variance in professional values (F(1,230) = 4.35, p < 0.05)). These results suggest that an increased awareness of professional values is essential to maximizing the attitudes towards professional ethics in future physical therapy professionals in order to improve their future daily clinical practices.

Abstract:
Corporate performance is a key in corporate accounting. One of the earliest accounting measures of corporate performance is accounting income. Accrual accounting enables the measurement of changes in net assets of an entity. Accounting income is neither scientifically determined nor proven. Accounting information often results from approximation and estimation when choice among alternatives is professionally judged, rather than exact measures and perceptions. Divergence in application of accounting policies in corporations under similar conditions may present different results. Some criticize corporate accounting, particularly after scandals related to financial statement fraud, for choices among procedures that accounting standards permit. However, choices in the application of accounting permitted procedures that accounting standards allow are based on professional judgment. Professional judgment enables accounting as a profession and allows accounting professionals to claim status in their respective communities. Exploring users’ awareness of corporate reports in Saudi Arabia in terms of flexibility in using accounting methods when preparing corporate reports and analyzing their understanding of corporate reports, this study surveyed 72 financial statement users. Research has found that sufficient efforts must be made to obtain information when making investment decisions. As accounting income is a result of applied accounting procedures and methods, users perceive information published in the financial reports, including notes, as understandable. Flexibility in applying accounting standards is imperative for adapting to changes in the entity’s business environment. Potential capital market investors must maintain a minimum level of knowledge; otherwise, they might be gambling their wealth or savings against the odds.

Abstract:
Modern social processes require special and more profound knowledge not only in a purely subject area, but also in the socio-historical sphere. In the professional activity, the person uses professionally important abilities that ensure effectiveness, quality and reliability of this activity.Professional and spiritual development of the individual depends on external circumstances, the environment and internalization of external information obtained within professional activity and interaction. The basis of professional abilities is the properties of mental processes (perception, memory, attention, thinking and imagination) and psychomotor functions (coordination of movements and sensorimotor coordination). Professionally important qualities depend on the specifics of professional activity. The formation of human professionalism takes place under the influence of two groups of factors: objective and subjective. Objective ones include norms, requirements, restrictions of the chosen profession; the presence of certain properties and features (professional knowledge and skills, professionally significant qualities, etc.). Subjective factors consist of possibilities (inclinations), abilities, motives and level of aspirations, self-esteem, psychological protection against mistakes and failures.Personality development, as well as its professional qualities and characteristics is associated with the development of self-awareness, namely: self-conception, awareness of physical, intellectual and other qualities, and evaluation of these qualities.Self-awareness has a structure that includes the following components: cognitive, affective, behavioral ones, which determine self-cognition, self-regulation and the attitude of a specialist to their professional and personal qualities, etc. Professional self-awareness is characterized and depends on the multi-sidedness of situations that require a person’s ability to coordinate their actions with the actions of other people.Professional development of the person can occur in case a person is aware of his participation and responsibility for everything that is happening.Professional qualities and features of the personality of modern specialists depend on many conditions and factors that are manifested in social phenomena and processes, the creation of a pedagogical environment aimed at the formation of professional qualities, in the requirements for the components of the personality of a modern specialist, to their professional abilities, indicators and integral characteristics.Structural characteristics of the personality of a young specialist depend on the level of development of professional intellectual qualities, the level of development of components of professional intelligence. The connection between professional qualities (perception of information, ability to work with the received data for the decision of production tasks, acceptance of an effective decision, etc.), and personal characteristics (orientation, competence, emotional and behavioral flexibility, intellectual flexibility) determines the image of a specialist. The structure of the personality of a future specialist (for example, students of aerospace VTNZ) is determined by the characteristics that show the peculiarities of this individual. In social relations we can define stability, purposefulness, balance, impulsivity and flexibility concerning social norms of behavior.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTObjectives:Awareness can be defined as a response to, or evaluation of, an aspect of one’s situation or internal state. Awareness becomes impaired as dementia progresses; however, the exact nature and degree of impairment in advanced dementia remains unclear. The extent to which caregivers understand or make assumptions about the level and nature of awareness in advanced dementia may have a significant impact on their ability to appropriately respond to and care for the person with dementia. This systematic review examines the literature regarding professional caregiver perceptions about awareness in advanced dementia.Design:A systematic search of online literature databases (PsychInfo, Medline, Embase, CINAHL) was conducted up to January 15, 2018, using a range of search terms related to dementia, awareness and caregiver attitudes. Results:The systematic review included a total of 10 qualitative studies that were heterogeneous in aspects of design, including analyses. Narrative synthesis was used to integrate results. Four major themes were identified from review of the papers: how professional caregivers defined awareness; professional caregiver beliefs about what influences the expression of awareness; professional caregiver beliefs around how to assess awareness in advanced dementia; and the perceived impact of episodes of increased awareness on the person with dementia and caregiver. Sub-themes were identified within each of these areas. Conclusion:This review highlights the importance of professional caregiver perceptions of awareness in advanced dementia. Supporting professional caregivers to assess and understand the nature of awareness in advanced dementia would improve their approach to care and outcomes for people with dementia.

The paper considers the specifics of the content of the structural organization of professional self-conscience of master students studying in the psy-chological and pedagogical departments. Analysis of the qualitative characteristics of the structural components of the professional self-awareness of master’s degree students (cognitive, evaluative-affective, behavioral) showed their general favorable attitude to their own “I” and a sense of self-worth. At the same time, there are differences in the severi-ty of the cognitive component of professional self-awareness among postgraduate students (psy-chologists expressed awareness of current and pro-spective social roles, positioning of professional competence). At the level of the behavioral compo-nent of professional self-awareness. reliably signifi-cant differences were revealed according to the scales “Purpose in life” and “Locus of control-I”. The results of the study indicate the need to sys-tematize educational work and psychological sup-port of students in order to achieve the subject posi-tion, the formation of professional self-awareness.
