Full textDuring the 20th Century Mexico underwent many social and economic changes. A main feature has been its demographic dynamics, whose momentum foresees a rapid and impacting population ageing. This represents a new challenge for a society still struggling for development. The utmost relevant problem comes with the epidemiology of ageing, the high costs of medical care and the need for adapting the health systems. Up to now the only topic on ageing that has been discussed in the political arena is about severe financial constraints in social security. But social security also lacks coverage for rural and informal workers. Benefits granted are unsatisfactory. The ongoing privatization of social security cancels coverage widening, do not substitute the level of income during retirement, and is highly demanding of tax resources. Socio-economic characteristics of the elderly show a high degree of inequality. Perspectives and scenarios for the next decades show a large participation of population in working ages. If it is possible to provide rewarding and productive employment all problems can be resolve, including those of the elderly. Nevertheless, projections for the second half of the 21s' Century anticipate an overwhelming burden. An opportunity comes with the increasing education of future generations and the possibilities of self-care and prevention. Research on demographic ageing in Mexico requires new concepts, theories and methods under an interdisciplinary approach

Full textWhile many studies focus on the impacts of anthropogenic greenhouse gas on climate on the timescale of the next century, very few have investigated the impacts on a longer timescale, from tens of millennia to a million years. However, due to the long lifetime of CO2 in Earth's surface reservoirs, current anthropogenic emissions are expected to impact the climate on a much longer timescale than the coming century. The objective of this thesis is to broaden the scope of existing studies on the climate of the next million years, by revisiting some of their classical hypotheses. Existing studies rarely consider a partial or total melt of the Antarctic ice sheet, and assume that atmospheric CO2 concentrations come back to pre-industrial levels after hundreds of thousands years, due to silicate weathering. In this study, we explore potential evolutions of the Antarctic ice sheet.More precisely, I have investigated the long term equilibrium of the Antarctic ice sheet under different CO2 levels, using the Earth System model of intermediate complexity iLOVECLIM, coupled to the GRISLI Antarctic ice sheet model, by first applying increasing CO2 levels until the Antarctic ice sheet retreats entirely, and then applying decreasing CO2 levels until the ice sheet regrows. Our results show that the ice sheet exhibits a strong hysteresis behavior. Due to the inclusion of the albedo-melt feedback in our setup, the transition between a glaciated Antarctic ice sheet and an ice-free Antarctic and conversely is more brutal than in previous studies not including this feedback. The CO2 threshold for both Antarctic glaciation and deglaciation varies with the orbital configuration.Additionally, I have developed a conceptual model for the geological carbon cycle that includes multiple equilibria in order to reproduce multi million year cycles in the d13C that are coherent with the data. These potential multiple equilibria in the carbon cycle could lead to a widely different atmospheric CO2 concentration evolution on long timescales, compared to existing studies. Finally, we discuss the implications of our results on a potential end of the Quaternary in the future, with a disappearance of Northern Hemisphere glaciations, but also a disappearance of the Antarctic ice sheet
KITAGANYA, SEBATWA Joseph. "La notion du prochain dans la tradition chrétienne : propédeutique d’un nouvel humanisme chez Emmanuel Levinas." Thesis, Lyon 3, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012LYO30016/document.
Full textOur research would try to show that nowadays more than ever, it seems to us that world needs both a social ethic and a political plan based on that ethic. The latter (ethic) far from being understood as series of normative codes of acting or being ( conjugated in the imperative mood according to the style of Kant, it is, as for us all through our thesis the relationship with the neighbour, the other one speaking of the individual and the relationships settled by institutional devices that rule social life. Therefore, our own way of thinking about common life with the other, seemed essential to us because the ethic according to the meaning given by Levinas is radically that “infinite responsibility” towards the neighbour (witch means that deacon’s responsibility without any reward and totally assumed by the one who helps) in which we can guess an enigmatic forn of transcendence, the beyond of the individual subject that is a sign in meeting of two subjects.Indeed, for Levinas the real being of man is in his face where he is completely different; that assertion does sum up what is the heart of his work and our philosophical concern: the problem of a social relationship based on justice and kept alive but and through peace. And if we do insist on the Christian heritage as the essential element of the thought of Levinas it is when he tries to promote the humanism of the neighbour. Besides, that same heritage has influenced too some philosophers who believed in God such as Franz Rosenzweig, Emmanuel Mounier, Paul Ricoeur, Edith Stein and so on.Nevertheless, sounding out the ways of thinking of Levinas doesn’t necessarily give the definitive orientation line from which man could set an absolutely unbreakable system of coordinates and references allowing the organisation of the whole political system. As far us we are concerned, we don’t believe at all that we must follow literal accuracy. A certain “faithlessness” to some main points of his philosophy has besides underlined our faifthfulness that remains true even if we may have stood back from his thought
