Zoghi, Masrour. "Regret bounds for Gaussian process bandits without observation noise." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/42865.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents some statistical refinements of the bandits approach presented in [11] in the situation where there is no observation noise. We give an improved bound on the cumulative regret of the samples chosen by an algorithm that is related (though not identical) to the UCB algorithm of [11] in a complementary setting. Given a function f on a domain D ⊆ R^d , sampled from a Gaussian process with an anisotropic kernel that is four times differentiable at 0, and a lattice L ⊆ D, we show that if the points in L are chosen for sampling using our branch-and-bound algorithm, the regret asymptotically decreases according to O(e^{τt/(ln t)^{d/4}}) with high probability, where t is the number of observations carried out so far and τ is a constant that depends on the objective function.

Abstract:
This is a study about learning and creative processes. More specifically, the study contains an observation of how I arrange three songs for different instruments within a specific time limit. The questions that are accounted for in this study are what techniques I use, which problems arise and how the time limit affects the result. The result of this study shows that a variety of factors are present during my composition/arranging process. It shows that I apply intuition, discursive thinking, music theoretical techniques, and experience in the field of arranging music. The observation is, to some extent, analysed from phenomenological perspective.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine the practices middle school principals employed during the supervisory process. This qualitative research study examined the practices middle school principals followed during the pre-observation process, observation process, and post observation process. The study also detailed how the data collected from formal observations and classroom walk-through observations was utilized by middle school principals. Due to the increasing number of responsibilities and mounting pressure to provide quality teacher supervision, the practices employed by middle school principals during the supervisory process was an important topic in need of additional research.

Abstract:
The aim of this research is to ease the reuse of components in an Object-Oriented library. We ease the three main processes included in reuse: searching for, understanding and adapting components. The novelty of this approach is that all the information needed to achieve these improvements is learned automatically by spying on the programmer's actions. This thesis describes a model for a learner in an Object-Oriented environment. A specific implementation for the Smalltalk language, called LEARNIST (Learning to EAse Reuse IN SmallTalk), is described and illustrated with examples.

Abstract:
The principal purpose of the project is to enable ReMoTe support for multi-databases. ReMoTe stands for the Recursively Estimating Multi-Threaded Observation Technology Enterprise, which is a web-based computer aided software engineering tool for monitoring software development process. Development of ReMoTe is based on the RMT (Recursive Multi-Threaded) software life cycle developed by Scott Simon, a CSUSB alum, in his master's thesis in 1997. ReMoTe enables the monitoring of projects that use different databases in various locations. Central management can view the progress information of each project using a web browser no matter where the database or project team is located. In this project, three database software were supported, namely MySQL, Oracle, and Microsoft Access, and employed contemporary technologies such as JavaScript, PHP, and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC). Source codes are included.

In this project, an algorithm has been proposed to detect a satellite’s maneuver by comparingthe orbital elements observed from the two line element data and the orbital elements propagatedwith the help of Simplified perturbations models. A set of TLE data for an object orbiting Earthcontains a specific set of orbital elements. Simplified perturbation are utilized to propagate theorbital velocity and position vector of the same object. By comparing the results obtained fromboth the methods, the maneuvers of a satellite are detected. This project outlines the workingmethodology and the implementation of the algorithm developed to detect the maneuvers. Thefunctioning of the technique is assessed with reference to two case studies for which the maneuverhistory is available by following the approach employed by Kelecy et al. (2007). The same methodis implemented to detect the orbit controlling maneuvers as well as the fine control maneuvers. Theresults derived from the analysis indicate that the maneuvers which has the magnitude of even aslow as cm/s has been detected when the detection parameters are calibrated properly.

Abstract  The aim of this study has been to examine students' perception of their ability to be creative in school, what conditions that exist for creative activities and cultural experiences, and how to the school comply with the steering documents regarding arts in school.  Quantitative method in the form of questionnaires has been used along with structured observations. The research has taken place in a primary school in western Värmland and involved 151 pupils and eight teachers. The empirical data indicates that students have the greatest opportunity to be creative in subjects where the observations pointed towards good target achievement, where students were involved in their own learning as well as were the physical premises were appropriate. The material also indicates that the pupils are offered cultural experiences only to a very limited extent in school.  This study’s research section supports that the creative activities are highly relevant to school by discussing policy documents, development and learning research, creative process and the importance of experiences and impressions.

He, Qing. "Investigating the performance of process-observation-error-estimator and robust estimators in surplus production model: a simulation study." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/76859.

Full text
Abstract:
This study investigated the performance of the three estimators of surplus production model including process-observation-error-estimator with normal distribution (POE_N), observation-error-estimator with normal distribution (OE_N), and process-error-estimator with normal distribution (PE_N). The estimators with fat-tailed distributions including Student's t distribution and Cauchy distribution were also proposed and their performances were compared with the estimators with normal distribution. This study used Bayesian method, revised Metropolis Hastings within Gibbs sampling algorithm (MHGS) that was previously used to solve POE_N (Millar and Meyer, 2000), developed the MHGS for the other estimators, and developed the methodologies which enabled all the estimators to deal with data containing multiple indices based on catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE). Simulation study was conducted based on parameter estimation from two example fisheries: the Atlantic weakfish (Cynoscion regalis) and the black sea bass (Centropristis striata) southern stock. Our results indicated that POE_N is the estimator with best performance among all six estimators with regard to both accuracy and precision for most of the cases. POE_N is also the robust estimator to outliers, atypical values, and autocorrelated errors. OE_N is the second best estimator. PE_N is often imprecise. Estimators with fat-tailed distribution usually result in some estimates more biased than estimators with normal distribution. The performance of POE_N and OE_N can be improved by fitting multiple indices. Our study suggested that POE_N be used for population dynamic models in future stock assessment. Multiple indices from valid surveys should be incorporated into stock assessment models. OE_N can be considered when multiple indices are available.

Ford, Sandra Eileen. "Exploring the Relationship between Student Survey Results and Evaluator Observation Results in the Teacher Evaluation Process." Thesis, Lindenwood University, 2015. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3682284.

Full text
Abstract:

Researchers and practitioners have indicated that current teacher evaluation systems do not distinguish differences between teachers. In an attempt to redesign the current system and create a more effective system, legislative mandates required the use of multiple measures in the teacher evaluation systems of states receiving federal money. As a result student perception surveys became one of the multiple measures being considered for use in the teacher evaluation process. In this study, student perception survey results and certified evaluator observation results were analyzed to determine if there was a significant linear relationship between students' and evaluators' perceptions of effective teaching. Central tendencies, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation were calculated using the scores of both variables for each indicator to find the variability within the data sets. Additionally, a Pearson r was used to determine the strength and direction of the relationship between the two variables using six teaching indicators designed through the Network for Educator Effectiveness teacher evaluation program. The Pearson r revealed a significant linear relationship between the two variables for two of the six indicators and a weak to moderate positive relationship for the remaining four. Finally, quartiles of students' and evaluators' scores were calculated and analyzed to further explore potential relationships between the variables. Quartile patterns indicated a potential positive relationship for all six indicators. The results from this study can be used to help local, regional, and state decision-makers better understand the advantages and disadvantages of the various measures commonly used to evaluate teaching personnel.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study is to examine my own learning process with a modern opera aria. The study is based on a design theoretical perspective on learning with focus on the concepts design, multimodality and semiotic resources. The process went on for three weeks during the autumn 2017 with a total of 14 practising sessions. To be able to document the learning process during these practising sessions, the methods video observation and logbook were used. The design of the learning process is described in the result by two different themes; Creatively unstructured and The endeavour to the overall experience. The result also shows that physical resources were used during the learning process to embody musical parameters, while material resources became a complement to the physical resources in a concrete way. In the last section, the result is discussed relative to a design theoretical perspective on learning and to previous research on practise and rehearsal methods. Some aspects are the meaning of a sounding example to listen to relative to the aspect of the overall experience, and the creatively unstructured learning process and its impact on the practice progression.

Abstract:
Terrorism is a historical problem; however, it becomes one of the biggest problems in 21st century. September 11 and the following Madrid, Istanbul and London attacks showed that it is the most significant problem threatening world peace and security. Governments have started to deal with terrorism by improving security measurements and making new investments to stop terrorism. Most of the governments' and scholars' focus is on immediate threats and causes of terrorism, instead of looking at long-term solutions such as root causes and underlying reasons of terrorism, and the recruitment style of terrorist organizations If terrorist recruitment does not stop, then it is safe to say terrorist activities cannot be stopped. This study focused on the recruitment process by observing two different terrorist organizations, DHKP/C and Turkish Hezbollah. The researcher brings 13 years of field experience and first-person data gathered from inside the terrorist organizations. The research questions of this study were: (i) How can an individual be prevented from joining or carrying out terrorist activities?; (ii) What factors are correlated with joining a terrorist organization?; (iii) What are the recruitment processes of the DHKP/C, PKK, and Turkish Hezbollah?; (iv) Is there any common process of being a member of these three terrorist organizations?; and (v) What are the similarities and differences these terrorist organizations? As a result of this analysis, a terrorist recruitment process map was created. With the help of this map, social organizations such as family and schools may be able to identify ways to prevent individuals from joining terrorist organizations. Also, this map will also be helpful for government organizations such as counterterrorism and intelligence to achieve the same goal.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to compare two different methods of learning foot-technique and how the two methods affect playing of the drums. To examine this video-observation filled an important role with complement of a journal during the six weeks of practice that were recorded. Each week there were three videos recorded with variating focus each video. The study is based on design theory which is described in the background chapter. The result of this study showed that different methods can result in variating outcome and it also showed that exploring new methods can give positive effects on your practice. The discussion revolves around what resources have been the most impactful for my own personal development and how one must be conscious of one’s own limitations to be able to create a successful plan of practice.

Abstract:
I have by a self-observation studied how I as a fiddler from the province of Värmland have worked to learn to play the Ranungspolskorna by Jon Erik Öst. The aim has been to study my own learning process by studying music from a different tradition with sheet notes as a master. A central issue in my work has been to find out if the previous knowledge I already have is enough to play the new music tradition or what new knowledge I need to add to succeed. I have been using video recording, audio recording and writing logbook to document what has happened, and this material forms the basis of my results. The theoretical perspective underpinning the work is master learning, but with focus on the cooperation between myself, my instrument and the sheet notes, and no another person acting as the master in the study. Finally I present the result of the study under two headings. The first one presents the learning process and the second gives concrete examples of the differences and similarities between the folk music genre from the provinces of Värmland and Hälsingand. The result is then discussed in relation to the previous research and background literature used in the present study.

Abstract:
Experimental study of the designer plays a critical role in design research. However laboratory based study is often poorly compared and contrasted to practice, leading to a lack of uptake and subsequent research impact. The importance of addressing this issue is highlighted by its significant influence on design research and many related fields. As such the main aim of this work is to improve empirical design research by characterising the relationship between practice and laboratory-based studies for critical design situations. A review of the state of the art methods in design research and key related fields is reported. This highlights the importance and commonality of a set or core issues connected to the failure to effectively link study of practice and study in the laboratory. Further to this a technical review and scoping was carried out to establish the most efective capture strategy to be used when studying the designer empirically. Subsequently three studies are reported, forming a three point comparison between practice the laboratory (with student practitioners) and an intermediary case (a laboratory with practitioners) . Results from these studies contextualise the critical situations in practice and develop a detailed multi-level comparison between practice and the laboratory which was then validated with respect to a number of existing studies. The primary contribution of this thesis is the development of a detailed multi-level relationship between practice and the laboratory for critical design situations: information seeking, ideation and design review. The second key contribution is the development of a generic method for the empirical study of designers in varying contexts - allowing researchers to build on this work and more effectively link diverse studies together. The final key contribution of this work is the identification of a number of core methodological issues and mitigating techniques affecting both design research and its related fields.

There is a tendency affecting the whole work world since a few décades on : employers seem not just obsessed about the need of improving work times and work action, but they also seem to give more importance to the employee implication and his/her subjectivity, in order to make the worker use of his/her working time and abilities in the most efficient way from the point of view of the company. When personal subjectivity becomes a target for the company, we can suppose that also rivalry moves to the field of the subjectivity working time. Abstract:
The purpose of this self-study is to investigate how my creative process is shaped by the use of different composition techniques. The research questions that the study has sought to find answers to are: How do I experience that my creation process is formed when I compose using two separate composition techniques? What similarities and differences do I experience the different creation processes? To accomplish this, two methods of composition have been used to compose two pieces of music for solo piano, one piece and composition session per method. The study is based on the phenomenological perspective and was conducted using video observation and the sketches produced during the observation periods. The result is presented structured into six themes after linear time and consists of the two methods creation processes and how it was perceived to compose after them. I have named these themes The original idea (when the first creative spark hits and, for example, the initiating cell is created), Structure sketch (when the shape of the piece is chosen), The first draft (where a more complete picture is given of the piece and how its different parts relate to each other) Developing (how the young piece is developed and filled out with, for example, chords and secondary voices), Second draft (when the last bits are put in place and the sections of the piece are connected), and Final changes (when the composition process is reviewed and early decisions are revised if they no longer fits into the final form of the piece). In conclusion, the results are discussed in relation to previous research. Under the heading The process, the results of the study are examined on a more general level, and under the heading Creativity or knowledge, it is pondered on how much of the composition process is actually based on the creative origination of new material.

Abstract:
This Master of Arts by research was comprised of two components: creative practice (60%) and a written thesis (40%). The creative practice was partially represented in an exhibition of paintings, drawings, photographs and artist books entitled Traces, held at WiseART Gallery, 166 Ann St, Brisbane, March 2005. The written component is represented in this manuscript. This case study illustrates the creative process of an individual artistic practice through intuitive inquiry, which utilized self-observation methods such as painting, drawing, photographing, bookmaking, exhibitions, journaling, questioning and mindfulness. Intuitive inquiry is outlined as the predominant method of both the phenomenon of art making in this case, as well as the method used to study the creative process. The concept of intuitive inquiry as a research method, by its similarity to this particular creative process, was well suited to studying its delicate, preconscious, internally reflective and reflexive activities. Intuitive inquiry also underpins the exceptional, transformative experiences of the artist, which are often excluded from conventional empirical research. The results of this study demonstrate that it is through the hermeneutic interpretations of process, product and dialogue that a deeper understanding of the creative process is gained. The hermeneutic model of creative process that emerged (Fig 4.14) will assist others in a deeper understanding of how creative process can be utilized in generating new knowledge. More importantly, it is this creative interpretive process that can lead to transformative experiences, which encourage both the artist and the audience to search for a deeper engagement with each other and the world.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore a musician's body language when studying an orchestral part. The observation took place during my own practice of the first flute part in the fourth movement of Brahms' second symphony and also during the rehearsal with the orchestra. The study has its basis in the perspective of design theory and I have used video observations during the rehearsal period of the work. I have also written a logbook during the process of self-observation. The result shows that the physical resources can help, but also hinder the musical process and its expression. In the end I discuss among other things how resources are used, seen from the design theory perspective.

The purpose of this self-study is to explore and describe the experiences of studying a classical peace by ear. The perspective is the phenomenological life-world perspective. Starting point was a classical piece for violin which I practiced for a period of 9 weeks. The piece was practiced 3 times each week and all sessions were documented in a logbook. Once a week the pratice occasions was also filmed for video observation. The result is based on the patterns which appeard during the analysis and are presented in three phases: First phase-Practice strategies, Second phase-Difficulties and Third phase-Solutions. A discussion about experiences of learning a classic piece by ear, learning strategies and changes in the life-world are made in the last chapter.

Abstract:
How can I – as a teacher student at a college of music – study an opera role? I have examined this question by observing the process of studying the opera role as Adele from The Bat by Johann Strauss. My theoretical perspective is partly based on Design for Learning combined with examining the artistic procedure itself. The results is systemazied under the headers Reasources and tools and The Process.  The result chapter shows the komplexitity in studying and learning an opera role. Laughter as a tool in opera was one of the most interseting results. This investigation could be seen as a preparation for a possible future career at the same time as the pedagogical aspects are examined.

In this self-study, I explore my own learning process while writing a composition for violin, flute and piano. The study is based on the perspective of design theory and is also based on literature and research in the subject of composition and music-making. This self-study is also based on observations from several video, sound and log recorded compositional events during autumn 2017. The result chapter is divided into three different stages of the process of the composition: The beginning of the composition, The development of the compositionand The final phase of the composition. The result answers the two research questions and the purpose of this study: What resources do I use when writing music and how the actual process of my composition takes place. In the discussion, these results are set in relation to the selected literature, research and the design theory perspective.

The purpose of this study is to examine my own learning process and how my playing is affected when practicing guitar technique. I documented one practice session every week during the appointed practice period, using the help of video documentation. I also used a logbook as a compliment to document what happened during the learning process. A design theoretical perspective was used as a basis for the study. In the result section, I describe how I designed my practicing and what consequences this had for my playing. The use of many different types of resources for learning turned out to provide positive results. Over time I developed structure and accuracy in my practice. In the last section I discuss how my orchestration of resources created opportunities to practice guitar technique, and how this orchestration changed over time. I also discuss the importance to begin all practice in a pleasant tempo as well as the importance to practice with structure and accuracy.

Abstract:
The starting point of this research is our participation in the evaluation of the Project and Sup' Sciences workshops to make sensitive the pupils of the secondary education in the sciences. This research financed by the « Fond d'expérimentation à la Jeunesse » (FEJ) and in partnership with « la direction de l'enseignement supérieur et de la recherche » (DESR), allowed us at the same time to have access to a complete ground of investigation and to think of the constraints of a financed research. This work bases then, on one hand on a vision of social established on the processes implemented in this type of educational device and on the other hand on the analysis of the situations peculiar to this experiment. To do it, it was question to articulate several levels of analyses from a questionnaire intended for the pupils, followed over three years, on the transformations of their representations of the scientific science and the businesses and on their relationship in the knowledges, in the class and in the school institution. Then, the analyses of interviews with the various actors of the educational community completed this evaluation; they gave information onto the processes operated in the elaboration and the realization of the project. Finally, the observations in situ in scientific workshops brought to light the educational activities and the situation of teaching, connected to the experiment

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to explore teachers’ orchestration of the class communication during teaching and to show whether the communication can be explained by frame factors. This study is a multiple case study of two physics teachers – one public and one private school teacher - using observational and interview data to illustrate and analyze their communication/talk process in the classroom. Implications are drawn for the way that they develop dialogue, which is further explored in regards to identified frame factors. Data collection was complemented with field notes and audio-recordings. The observations served for identifying the communication process. Interviews were used to develop the understanding of the teacher’s background and their beliefs on teaching for further strengthening the evidence for the findings. Transcripts were developed for detailed qualitative analysis of selected episodes of their communicative approaches.Concepts and theories on the importance of the communication process for reflective thinking and a learner-centered classroom along with the frame factors theory aid the construction of the research and are linked to the findings. The study provides insight on the frequency of elicitation of dialogic communication encouraging of reflective thought occurring at recurrent rate by the private school teacher during lecturing. The findings showed that frame factors steering the two teacher’s elicitation of communication were the curriculum, the teachers’ educational opportunities, external support and their ideologies. Findings suggest that reverting the teachers discourse fully towards an environment of dialogic communication encouraging of reflective thought - an aim of the Kosovo Curriculums - require additional sustenance and a profounder inquiry of the influence of teachers ideologies and how it can be diminished. Furthermore, an assessment of the curriculums implementation in classrooms and its limiting aspect of providing dialogically organized instruction is necessary along with assessment of the trainings offered to teachers.

The purpose of this study is to study and examine the personal learning process and learning process that is revealed as I practice guitar technique regulary and structured for ten weeks. During those ten weeks the practice was documented by video recordings once a week. The study is based on a design theoretic perspective which focuses on the analysis of how different resources have been used to design the learning process and how this design changed during the course of the study. The result reveals that I use a number of different bodily and material recourses that cooperates in the learning process. Also, the progress of the personal instrumental technique has been analysed by compare the difference in quality between practice sessions in the beginning and the end of the project period. It shows that development has taken place. In the last section of the study the design using resources and different practicing strategies, their development and how they can enable learning is discussed.

Abstract:

Chu, Shuyu. "Change Detection and Analysis of Data with Heterogeneous Structures." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/78613.

Abstract:
Heterogeneous data with different characteristics are ubiquitous in the modern digital world. For example, the observations collected from a process may change on its mean or variance. In numerous applications, data are often of mixed types including both discrete and continuous variables. Heterogeneity also commonly arises in data when underlying models vary across different segments. Besides, the underlying pattern of data may change in different dimensions, such as in time and space. The diversity of heterogeneous data structures makes statistical modeling and analysis challenging. Detection of change-points in heterogeneous data has attracted great attention from a variety of application areas, such as quality control in manufacturing, protest event detection in social science, purchase likelihood prediction in business analytics, and organ state change in the biomedical engineering. However, due to the extraordinary diversity of the heterogeneous data structures and complexity of the underlying dynamic patterns, the change-detection and analysis of such data is quite challenging. This dissertation aims to develop novel statistical modeling methodologies to analyze four types of heterogeneous data and to find change-points efficiently. The proposed approaches have been applied to solve real-world problems and can be potentially applied to a broad range of areas.

Abstract:
I explore visual and process-based systems to solidify the allusive nature of conceptual ideas. Impermanence, time and interdependence are reoccurring themes that stem from an interest in Eastern philosophy. Oscillating from representation to abstract minimalism, printmaking to sculpture, each element in a work is tailored to the concept. The minimalist appearance suggests simplicity, however elaborate planning and systematic execution are at the heart of my practice. Systems create great constraint, yet provide great freedom.

Wilson, Sara R. "Control Charts with Missing Observations." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/37623.

Full text
Abstract:
Traditional control charts for process monitoring are based on taking samples from the process at regular time intervals. However, it is often possible in practice for observations, and even entire samples, to be missing. This dissertation investigates missing observations in Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) and Multivariate EWMA (MEWMA) control charts. The standardized sample mean is used since this adjusts the sample mean for the fact that part of the sample may be missing. It also allows for constant control limits even though the sample size varies randomly. When complete samples are missing, the weights between samples should also be adjusted. In the univariate case, three approaches for adjusting the weights of the EWMA control statistic are investigated: (1) ignoring missing samples; (2) adding the weights from previous consecutive missing samples to the current sample; and (3) increasing the weights of non-missing samples in proportion, so that the weights sum to one. Integral equation and Markov chain methods are developed to find and compare the statistical properties of these charts. The EI chart, which adjusts the weights by ignoring the missing samples, has the best overall performance. The multivariate case in which information on some of the variables is missing is also examined using MEWMA charts. Two methods for adjusting the weights of the MEWMA control statistic are investigated and compared using simulation: (1) ignoring all the data at a sampling point if the data for at least one variable is missing; and (2) using the previous EWMA value for any variable for which all the data are missing. Both of these methods are examined when the in-control covariance matrix is adjusted at each sampling point to account for missing observations, and when it is not adjusted. The MS control chart, which uses the previous value of the EWMA statistic for a variable if all of the data for that variable is missing at a sampling point, provides the best overall performance. The in-control covariance matrix needs to be adjusted at each sampling point, unless the variables are independent or only weakly correlated.

Abstract:

Freeman, John. "Documenting the making process." Thesis, Brunel University, 2001. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/5287.

Abstract:
This thesis documents the construction of a performance project, At Last Sight, which was made with a group of undergraduates at University College Chester. The leader of that project is the same person as the writer of this thesis; this locates the act of writing as something embedded within the process of performance making. The writing forms an address to the unreliability of objective observational analysis. It does so through a resistance to those attempts at impartiality and detachment that might usually be expected in an academic investigation. In this case partiality and involvement are more than central to the investigative process, they form the very structure of enquiry. The body of this work was written at the same time as At Last Sight was being constructed, and the ideas encountered herein possess many of the rhythms of performance making. Space is both somewhere performance is made and an integral aspect of the made work. In a similar way the following chapters amount to more than the site where work has been recorded. In tracing the footprints that led to At Last Sight the thesis reveals itself as an element of that which is being traced. Where At Last Sight revealed the performers as the to-be-watched and also as the watchers, the study functions as the to-be-read and also as the reading. In this way the documentation becomes the documented. This notion of integration between the subject and its study runs through the thesis. Approaching performance analysis as something `other' creates a gap between it and its subject that can deny the best attempts to bring the two together. Approached in a less compartmentalised way the analysis is allowed to form an indivisible correspondence with the analysed. When the division between the act and the analysis is dissolved the documentation is able to exist as both fixed object and time-based event. Something of the fluidity of process is acknowledged and articulated in each of the sections presented.
