Abstract:

Abstract:
SummaryThis article is a practical-theological discourse about the appearance and the importance of the Church. For many who are interested in Christianity, there are different obstacles in the form of the institutional Church and organised religion. We cannot avoid the fact that the Church does not have a favourable reputation in our society. Not just for people watching her from the outside, but even the mere existence of the Church sometimes creates a problem for our individualistic society. This trend was fostered in the 1960s and ‘70s when the Church was overlooked and rejected by theologians of various Christian traditions, including for example adherents of Liberation Theology. The Church was sometimes understood as a deformed expression of a certain entity that should in reality be the Kingdom of God.However, the teaching of Jesus in the Gospels gives the Church quite an important role, and the focus of the New Testament Epistles is church planting and building. In spite of all critical comments and distortions of the past and the present, I will argue that Christianity cannot exist without the Church. The Church is not a relic of the past but a substantial part of the gospel. We are allowed to seek a contextualised expression of the Church, but not to avoid her altogether. She is not an invention of Christians; she is the beloved bride of Christ that plays an important role in the plan of salvation and a crucial role in interpreting the Scriptures.RésuméCet article est un discours de théologie pratique sur la naissance et l’importance de l’Église.

Abstract:

The transfer of the governing seat of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to the capital of Ukraine, though not equal to the Church's exit to “Greater” Ukraine, but prompts an analysis of the respective possibilities of the heir to the baptism of Vladimir. This is what the Head of her Church calls her, emphasizing essentially the main motive behind the decision to move her residence. In his "Address on the Construction of the Temple of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Kiev." Lubomyr Husar stressed that the UGCC, as "part of the Kyiv root", is now free in a free state. Particular attention is paid to religious policy of the emperors, which was aimed at establishing national and religious monolithic and strengthening the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in public life of the country, noting that many problems in the sphere of state-religious and inter-religious relations were associated with the processes of entry and integration of several nations into the Russian Empire.

Abstract:
SummaryChristians have traditionally experienced tensions between their Christian identity and their citizenship in a democracy. This tension is a special variant of the inevitable underlying classical challenge for Christians in all societies where they live. Following Augustine, this can be expressed as the challenge to combine the dual citizenships of the city of God and the ‘city of man’. Despite such tensions, under God’s providence the participation of Christians can also lead to temporary blessings for their societies. Western history provides many examples of this, the development of democracy being one of them. In the current post-Christian context these historical fruits of Christian influence have often become detached from their roots and therefore become unstable or burdened by difficulties and even deadlocks. Being still connected to that root, Christians can often provide clarification and contribute to solutions. This Christian contribution can be made fruitful, for example, in the contemporary clash between Western European liberal and Eastern European illiberal versions of democracy. The article concludes with five points of attention for Christian participation in a democracy: staying anchored in the Church as the political community of the future kingdom, considering earthly political identifications as secondary, developing public grass roots activities from within the Church, realising that moral aims in the context of society have to be different from those in the context of the Church, and remaining faithful to a prophetic lifestyle in word and deed.

Any inquiry into the condition of the churches to-day must consider the gulf existing between the church and the working class. We hardly realize, I think, that by a great section of the proletariat our religious organizations are regraded as the stronghold of hypocrisy and oppression. We hardly realize the bitterness that that these workers fell toward us as they repeat once again: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers. Abstract:
The Problem of the Uniate Churches The current problem of the Uniate Churches is illustrated by an analysis of two major documents of Vatican Council ll. The decrees on the Oriental Churches and on Ecumenism were made with two different perspectives in mind. These correspond to two conceptions of the Church and its universality. On the one hand, there is the pyramidal ecclesiology of the Counter-Reformation, whose centralizing movement is focussed on the bishop of Rome. On the other, there is the recovery of an „ecclesiology of Communion”, where the universal Church is seen as a Communion of Communions, a Church of Churches. In the first case, the typical oriental Church is seen as already united with the bishop of Rome. In the second, it is an Orthodox Church, in co mm union with the Ecumenical Patriarch or one of the patriarchs of the Non-Chalcedonian Churches. Thus, two ecclesiologies compete in the Catholic mind. The ecclesiology of communion, now seen as the major force within Vatican II, has not been totally explored. The way of the universal Communion lies in a dialogue of the Uniate Churches with their Orthodox or Non-Chalcedonian counterparts, in view of restoring communion between them. In the ecumenical context now in the making, a double communion should be possible once the doctrinal orthodoxy and liturgical integrity of each side had been acknowledged. In this way, the Uniate Churches may still have a prophetic function.

Abstract:
The process of revival of the Russian Orthodox Church in the late XX – early XXI centuries is accompanied by significant changes in its sociopolitical status. The Church regained high public authority by reestablishing and strengthening relations with the government, which granted the right to such types of activity as educational, missionary, social, and charitable. The church construction, which was discontinued for over 70 years, led to the loss of succession in engineering design and absence of systematic scientific and engineering developments that are intended to meet the modern needs and demands in the area of design of churches. These factors determine the heightened scientific interest to this topic. The goal of this research consists in determination of trends and problems in the scientific studies dedicated to the modern architecture of the Orthodox Church. The authors set the task to analyze, systematize and characterize the range of scientific publications written by the Russian scholars on the modern architecture of the Orthodox Church. This article considers the results of national scientific research (dissertations, scientific articles) on the modern architecture of the Orthodox Church that were published over the period from 1990 to the present.

Abstract:
Orthodox church law is comprised of elements that regulate the life of the Church at various levels. The theological decisions, oroses, canons and canonical letters, which concern the Church globally, obviously focus on doctrine. Still, they also characterize the theological aspects of ecclesiology, primarily expressed in the Orthodox Church’s fundamental confession of faith – the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed. Although a number of the canons of the ecumenical councils and of the Holy Fathers, historical and contemporary resolutions passed by various local Orthodox Churches and other ecclesiastical authorities and institutions pertain to the universal sphere in many aspects, the vast majority of them set specific organizational standards of church life in the local perspective: the local Church, basic administrative units (dioceses, metropolises or exarchates), but above all in basic organizational structures, which include parishes and monasteries. This article presents the problems experienced when systematising contemporary Orthodox church law. This research aims to present a model for systematizing church law and to direct further research towards a comprehensive systemization of church law, including both the universal code and the legislation of specific Orthodox autocephalous churches. The methodology of this work is based on analysing legal acts and analyses already conducted by authoritative canonists. While focusing on the legal code of the autocephalous churches, the following questions were addressed: discrepancies resulting from the source corpuses adopted in various local churches and the lack or omission of information on significant organizational and systemic issues. The difficulties presented in this article provoke further research into organizing Orthodox church law. The fundamental problem is the absence of a standardized legal code for the universal Orthodox Church and a standardized compilation of ecclesiastical laws to be applied in autocephalous churches. The provisions of universal church law do not sufficiently organize issues of mutual intra-church relations, and in particular, the obligations and boundaries of the prerogatives of local autocephalous church structures. This process of systematization should include updating legal provisions by means of recognizing provisions that have been canonically repealed by later canons of the same rank or higher as invalid.

Abstract:
This article examines how the role of Christian religious education in the church can empower the creative economy of congregations in the digital age. One of the church ministries that must be done is to be involved in increasing the welfare of the congregation through economic empowerment of the congregation. Economic empowerment is very important for the church to do, but in fact the church neglects it. In carrying out the ministry as God's worker in the world, the church does not only focus on spiritual matters, but more than that the church also becomes a servant in improving the quality of the social life of the congregation. The problems that occur in the church environment related to mental problems today are economic problems. The problems that occur in the church environment related to mental problems today are economic problems. Therefore, Christian religious education has a very important role to empower the creative economy in the church through teaching and mentoring in the congregation so that the congregation has the ability and skills and applies the creative economy in everyday life. The research method used in this research is literature and literature study. Literature review refers to an assessment of the concepts and theories used based on the available literature, especially from articles published in various scientific journals. Abstract:
The article highlights the meaning and legal status of state-church relations, reveals their content and draws attention to the problems that accompany them. Identifies certain aspects of economic relations in the activities of religious organizations and establishes the features of their relationship with the legal policy of the state. Attention is paid to the types of problematic issues of economic activity of representatives of religious organizations and the directions of their elimination are determined. The author's position on the expediency of expanding the clear apparatus of this process by introducing the category of "economic and legal regulator of state-church relations" is presented. The essential characteristics of the proposed conceptual category are presented in a broad and narrow sense, which provides a more substantive implementation in the legislative regulators of this area. The advantages of its adaptation in modern state-church relations, which affect economic activity, are determined in detail, with the substantiation of the chosen approach. The characteristics of typical models of state-church relations are given, the factors influencing their choice in the country are determined and the position of scientists on expediency of adaptation in Ukraine of the concept of formation of contractual-cooperative multilevel model of state-church relations is revealed. Of course, one should be aware of the legislator, who reveals the legal position on the formation of state-church relations in our society, but some issues of economic activity of religious organizations and communities need more substantive regulation, which emphasizes the relevance of the chosen area of research. A number of conclusions can be drawn from the results of the research. The legislative platform governing state-church relations needs to be improved, as there are a number of unresolved issues related to economic relations. Part of the solution to the problematic issues lies in the plane of improving the conceptual apparatus, which is able to more objectively reveal their target nature. Thus, the introduction of the conceptual category "economic and legal regulator of state-church relations" will provide more substantive. In general, a number of issues of modern state-church relations in the context of economic activity require closer attention both from the legislator and from representatives of the church, scientific elites, specialists in economic activities of religious organizations (communities), which together will improve the situation inherent in today.

Architectural acoustics of contemporary sacred buildings is still an under-appreciated issue. Many contemporary churches are not functional enough due to acoustic defects which occur there. The study discusses issues of the modern Catholic church, where acoustic problems surface as high reverberant noise levels. The building under investigation, i.e. the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is the biggest contemporary church in Poznań, Poland, as its internal volume amounts to 16,800 m³. On the basis of in situ investigations, a computer model of the church was built and a series of simulations were carried out to determine correct treatment in order to achieve satisfactory acoustic conditions. The main assumption was to find such a solution as not to affect the modernist architecture of the church.

Abstract:
The article considers a brief review of the Russian historiography of women’s charitable ministry in the Early Church and its continuity in the XIX —early XXI century. Women’s charity in Russia and in Europe has historically devel-oped as an institutional phenomenon based on сhristian principles. The mem-bers of the ancient women’s institutes, whose functions included social activi-ties, were called deaconesses, widows, elders, virgins. Russian scholars began to be interested in this women’s orders since the XIX century, when in Russia women gradually began to actively engage in public charitable activities and there was a search for institutionalization of a new women’s Church ministry, an alternative to monastic and humanitarian. The interest of scholars often had not only a theoretical, but also a church-practical orientation, as it was associ-ated with the activation of missionary and parish activities within the Ortho-dox Church. In the article, the main scientific and journalistic works on wom-en’s ministry are considered on the problems within the chronological blocks: before 1917, in 1917—1991 and after 1991. The authors described and ana-lyzed women’s charity in ancient times, and also tried to justify for their time new institutional ministries in the Church, in particular deaconesses. However, the revival of such women’s ministry is closely connected not so much with the needs of modern society as with the needs of the Church and the church-wide consciousness.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problems of church-state relations; the canonical authority of the diocesan bishops was limited through the intervention of the state apparatus in the diocesan administration. The peculiarity of church-state legal relations lies in the restrictive nature of state-legal and church-legal regulation: on the one hand, the state cannot interfere in canonical, liturgical, internal church life, on the other hand, the church does not participate in state political activity. The study of this topic is an analysis of the activities of state bodies in purely ecclesiastical affairs, in the affairs of diocesan administration. During these periods, the Russian Orthodox Church actually found itself in complete subordination to the secular authorities, and the management of the Church turned into part of the state apparatus for church affairs. The article presents a number of canonical rights of the bishop, which were limited by state intervention.

AbstractAlthough the present publication does completely meet the requirements for an academic article, we have decided to publish it because of the insights it provides into the latest developments within the Kimbanguist Church in Congo. The author is a theologian who was Dean of the Kimbanguist Faculty of Theology in Lutendele near Kinshasa until mid 2003. He was deeply involved in the problems that arose in the beginning of the 21st century. He is also a person who is able to explain diligently the views of the different parties in the Kimbanguist Church. However, due to his own involvement in these developments the article has rather the character of a document written by a well-educated participant observer, who is very familiar with his subject, than that of a publication authored by a scholar who does his utmost to remain neutral. The document explains the theological, religious and contextual backdrops of the doctrine of the Trinity developed in the Kimbanguist Church, for in this church the persons of the Trinity are narrowly connected with the founder of the church and his family. Since 2001 these connections were even made more intense. Interestingly there are some Biblical reasons for it as well, but nonetheless the church seems to loose doctrinal familiarity with the other churches in the world through these new evolutions.

Abstract:
Poverty in Indonesia is a crucial problem that must be considered by various parties, including the church. However, the church often neglects this because the church is often preoccupied with its theological model that sides with wealth so that the existence of the poor is ignored. This makes the church's mission neglected because it does not take the condition of the poor seriously. Using the phenomenological method, this article shows that poverty should be a severe concern in the missiological aspect of the church. In addition, the method of rhetorical criticism is used to show that the Bible also speaks of God's care for the poor. The study results recommend that the church should have the courage to carry out missiological duties to the poor by putting the poor first and placing the poor as equals, who also receive the same salvation from God. Through this missiological task, the church will contribute to alleviating poverty.

Methodism was introduced into Nigeria as a result of the separate missionary activities of the Primitive Methodist Church and the Wesleyan Methodist Church, both from Britain. In 1962 the Nigerian Methodist Church gained her autonomy from the British Methodist conference. The checkered history of the Methodist church in Nigeria has affected the organization of the records of the church and consequently researchers' access to and utilization of these records. An attempt is made in this paper to examine critically the problems that might face the scholar who intends to use Methodist church records in Nigeria for research purposes. Ways of overcoming these problems are suggested.

Abstract:
The article presents reflections on the inclusion of virtualization elements in religious practices and the value-based attitude of actors of the religious process to them. In the modern world, Internet users are a significant number of people who have completely different views on the spiritual nature of human exist-ence. Extrapolating the percentage of believers to Internet users, we can assume that users who define themselves as believers constitute the majority. It can be assumed that the virtual environment is becom-ing today a vehicle for the propagation of religious worldview and culture as well as an environment for the spread of subcultures of various religious groups of believers having their own values, some of which may become internal values of the Internet space as an emerging virtual world, the so-called Internet uni-verse. The possibility of the appearance of religious constructs that exist exclusively in a virtual environ-ment makes it possible to talk about the emergence of new religious actions, values, structures that be-come virtual not only by name but also by the very fact of the place of existence. At the same time, the new environment will launch the processes of transformation of itself, during which it is possible to re-think the values introduced and reformat the initially created structures, which will entail the emergence of a new religious reality of virtual space and new virtual reality values formed in local religious Internet communities. The emergence of network resources that provide the opportunity to create, using programs and applications, a space intended to meet the religious needs of believers, has led to the emergence of virtual temples, virtual religious activities, and virtual participation of believers in this process. For some believers, this religious space becomes the only platform for expressing and realizing their religious feel-ings and needs, and in fact it becomes their new value.

Abstract:
This study aims to critique and evaluate the church's functionality, namely the church in its social function. The Toraja Church is still not here to carry out its real social function. As a result, various kinds of social injustice that are produced from culture settle right within the sphere of the church. The church exists only as a producer of the imagination: directing the imagination, without fixing problems on earth. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature observation approach. As a basis, the theory used in this research is Karl Marx's socio-religious criticism theory. The essence of this criticism is not rejection of religion, but rejection of religious practices which merely produce illusions, so as not to solve the problems experienced by society, especially Christians, as a result, society becomes alienated. The Toraja Church is required not to solve problems through imagined solutions, but instead to bring concrete liberating solutions in society. The church should be a real medicine where there is a sick soul due to the chaos of the world. With the revival of church functionality, the church has become a strong fortress for the community towards peace.

Abstract:
The aim of the study is to present the formation of altar boys in the post-conciliar pedagogical teaching of priest Franciszek Blachnicki, an outstanding mystagogue of the Second Vatican Council, in the context of Christian education. The post-conciliar documents changed the severity of the Church, pompous and inaccessible to laymen. Concern for the community of the faithful became the dominant idea of the Second Vatican Council. In connection with the changes taking place in the Church and the needs of Catholics in the Polish People’s Republic, Franciszek Blachnicki made an attempt to lay the foundations for pastoral theology. It included the metho-dological assumptions underlying Catholic communities, placed by the priest in the philosophy of the Christocentric tradition, and based on a dialogue derived from “a philosophical meeting”, mutual service and the value of spiritual experience. The work of Franciszek Blachnicki, which remains valid, has made its way to the history of the Polish Catholic Church. While the priest is widely recognized as the founder of the Light – Life movement, he built the foundations for the concept of work for “communion” when altar service was the only communion approved by the Polish Church authorities.

Abstract:
Christian churches will lose an estimated $59 billion worldwide to embezzlement in 2022. Embezzlement and other white-collar crimes are property theft crimes characterized by the violation of another’s trust. This Comment names white-collar crimes committed exclusively by church leaders or officials “clerical-collar crimes.” Distinguishing clerical-collar crime from white-collar crime gives weight to and promotes future consideration of the unique problems that arise when church leaders and officials commit clerical-collar crime.Although clerical-collar crime is subject to civil and criminal liability, this Comment focuses solely on victims’ experiences in bringing civil claims against perpetrators of clerical-collar crime in Texas and leaves clerical-collar crime prosecution and punishment to future study. This Comment begins by examining three reasons why churches are uniquely vulnerable to clerical-collar crime. Then, this Comment describes three civil claims church members can bring against perpetrators of clerical-collar crime, two challenges church members face in bringing those claims in Texas, and the difficulty of recovering stolen property due to the judgment-proof problem. This Comment concludes by making several recommendations to protect churches from clerical-collar crime and mitigate victims’ losses.

Abstract:
In the article it is done historiographical and sources study analysis of the material concerning to the activity of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of Canada (hereinafter referred to as UGOCC). The reasons influenced on its creation are shown. The main of them was the desire of the public activists to give possibility to the immigrants to attend their native church with Ukrainian divine service, deprived the influence of Rome and Moscow. The conditions in which Ukrainians consolidated on the basis of Orthodox religion were analyzed. Orthodox were mainly those who moved from Bukovina and Galicians, that past from Greek Catholic faith to Orthodox. The history of origin and further activity of UGOCC in the interwar period, according to valid norms of the Canadian legislation, is described in the research. The most important problems of the building of UGOCC, such as the lack of priests, searching for a bishop by Ukrainian origin, and the struggle for the recognition of the canonization by the Constantinople Patriarchate are defined. Specific peculiarities of functioning the UGOC on Canadian territory, its ties with the same church in Ukraine are characterized. So, UGOC of Canada gave great significance to the spiritual union with the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (hereinafter referred to as UAOC), on it repeatedly stressed in its councils. UGOCC recognized itself as a part of the UAOC, headed by the Metropolitan Vasyl Lypkivsky. Particular attention is paid to internal conflicts in the interior of the Orthodox church. During the interwar period the discussion question of the canonicity of UGOC of Canada is remained, which Ivan Teodorovych and most of the members of the church`s council aspired to, but a part of the public activists led by V. Svystun was against the connection with the Constantinople Patriarchate and resanctifying the Archbishop, because it would mean «treason» of UAOC in Ukraine and the Kyivan canons of 1921. Therefore, the article analyzes the main problems of the building of the Ukrainian Orthodox church in Canada in the interwar period as well as the ways to solve them.

This article investigates a possible connection between a doctrine of the Trinity and Pentecostal ecclesial practices. I aim to show how a hierarchical model of the Trinity generally motivates a hierarchical church structure. Moreover, I argue that a hierarchical church structure has some potential problems; it can, among other things, lead to an expected loyalty by church members to their leaders. If the church is to dampen such problems, I suggest that not only organisational but also theological work is needed. Thus, I propose that an understanding of the Trinity as ontologically and functionally relational may benefit the Pentecostal church in upholding equality and reciprocity between leaders and members of a congregation.

Abstract:
Discussing the results of archaeological investigation at two important medieval sites - remains of the monastery of St George at Mazici near Priboj and of the church at Drenova near Prijepolje - the author puts forward his critical observations that make significant revisions to the conclusions suggested by excavators. The remains of a monastery at Mazici have long ago been identified with the monastery of St George in the zupa (district) of Dabar known from early 13th-century records. In the 1310s a monastery of St George is referred to in association with the toponym of Orahovica. After a long gap, the monastery is referred to again several times in the 1600s until its final destruction in 1743, as St George?s at Orahovica or simply Mazic(i). The report following systematic archaeological excavations suggests the unacceptable and unfounded conclusion, with dating and interpretation that the monastery church was built in the 13th century, received additions in the 14th, and was renovated in the 16th-17th centuries when there was a hospital attached to it. Careful analysis of the structural remains and the site?s stratigraphy clearly shows that the monastery was built on the site of a medieval cemetery of a 14th-15th-century date, which means that the church and its buildings cannot be older than the 16th century. The author also argues against the assumed presence of a monastic hospital, the assumption being based upon metal artifacts misinterpreted as "medical instruments" (parchment edge trimmer, compasses, fork!!!). The author?s inference is that the ruins at Mazici are not the remains of the monastery of St George, which should be searched for elsewhere, but possibly the legacy of a 14th-century monastic establishment which was moved there from an as yet unknown location most likely about the middle of the 16th century. The site at Drenova, with remains of a church destroyed by land slide, has been known since the late 19th century when a stone block was found there bearing the opening part of an inscription: "+ Te Criste auctore pontifex...", long believed to date from the 9th-10th century. Following the excavations, but based on this dating the church remains were interpreted as pre- Romanesque, and the interpretation entailed some major historical conclusions. From a more recent and careful analysis, the inscription has been correctly dated to the 6th century. With this dating as his starting-point, the author examines the fieldwork results and suggests that the block is an early-Byzantine spolium probably from the late-antique site of Kolovrat near Prijepolje, reused in the medieval period as a tombstone in the churchyard, where such examples are not lonely. It follows that the inscribed block is not directly relatable to the church remains and that it cannot be used as dating evidence. On the other hand, the church remains show features of the Romanesque-Gothic style of architecture typical of the Pomorje, the Serbian Adriatic coast. According to close analogies found for some elements of its stone decoration, the date of the church could not precede the middle of the 13th century. The question remains open as to who had the church built and what its original function was, that is whether a monastic community center round it. Its founder may be sought for among members of the ruling Nemanjic house, but a church dignitary cannot be ruled out. Anumber of complex issues raised by this site are yet to be resolved, but the study should be relieved of earlier misconceptions. Fresh information about this ruined medieval church should be provided by revision excavations in the future.

Contemporary technological mediation of the perceiving of Christian religious practices raises new questions of cultural interpretation, related to re-conceptualisation of participation in church life and belonging to Bulgarian traditional confessions. Unpopularity of cultural value of documenting of living religious heritage creates polemics about the opportunity of photographing and filming in sacred spaces, exposing of observed church events in media and direct transmission from sacral sites also during creation of church art and practicing of other religious rituals. Therefore attempts to balance ethnic, confessional and liturgical dimensions with tourist and public interests in accordance to global development of that discussion and potential effects of stability or instability of emerging new traditions, deserve scholarly attention. The yearbookPietismus und Neuzeit, the magisterial four volume handbookGeschichte des Pietismus, and the first International Pietism Congress in 2001 all testify to the vitality of current scholarship in this field. The issue of apostolic succession is one of the subjects of ecumenical dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Polish-Catholic Church in the Republic of Poland. Thanks to studies conducted in this area, it is possible to ascertain the preservation in the Polish-Catholic Church of the historical succession, originating through the Churches of the Union of Utrecht from the Roman Catholic Church. A difference, howewer, is the approach of the two communities to the succession of the episcopal ministry outside the community of the Church. The Old Catholic Churches, and hence the polish-catholics, do not recognise the validity of episcopal ordinations conferred outside the ecclesial community and without a specific mandate to confer them, even if the proper rite of conferral has been observed. The Roman Catholic Church, while regarding the conferral and reception of episcopal orders without papal nomination as giving rise to excommunication, nevertheless recognises their sacramental effect if the substance, form and proper intention of the conferral have been preserved.

The report is devoted to a description of some of the legal problems and conflicts that arose in the 2nd half of the 20th century in the question of veneration of locally venerated saints. The report examines the cases of saints glorified without the direct sanction of the Primate of the Autocephalous Church — primarily canonizations performed within the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as well as canonizations performed in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in the days of separation from the Church in the Fatherland; as well as contemporary veneration of saints (predominantly ancient, including those of pre-Mongolian and Mongolian times), whose canonizations were not issued by a separate name decree of the highest church authority, but whose names under Patriarchs Alexy I, Pimen, and Alexy II were included in the cathedral commemorations.

Abstract:
Traditionally scholars distinguish English Anglican cathedrals of ‘old’ foundation and those of ‘new’, but since Henry VIII a further category has arisen comprising those established in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to serve newly created dioceses. These are often referred to as parish-church cathedrals because they mostly remained parish churches even after their elevation. Their new status raised various architectual and organisational problems, and this essay concentrates on the latter, illustrating them with select examples. These problems deserve examination because there is little recent literature on them and some passing references may tend to mislead. Two events define the period. In 1836 the first modern parish-church cathedral was created at Ripon. In 1931 the Cathedrals Measure provided for revision of all cathedral statutes within general guidelines, the outcome of a commission of enquiry which Church Assembly had launched in 1924 and which had reported in 1927. Moreover by 1931, albeit then unperceived, an era had ended in another respect because after a surge of creations in the 1920s, no more new bishoprics have been erected in England by the Anglican Church (despite various plans), though some territorial adjustments have been made between dioceses, notably the transfer of Croydon from Canterbury to Southwark. Throughout much of this period popular odium surrounded cathedral establishments, a residue from radical attack in the 1830s and 1840s upon all ecclesiastical corporations whose wealth, admittedly often maladministered, critics had hoped to appropriate to other uses, whose neglect of duties had become scandalous, and whose quirky and outmoded ways Trollope gently satirised in his Barchester novels. The period saw a piecemeal and relatively unco-ordinated response to the problems which creation of these cathedrals involved, and that Church Assembly commission explicitly deplored the ‘anomalous and confused’ situation which had arisen.

ABSTRACTThis article takes the opportunity of Gillis Harp's recent biography of nineteenth-century American Episcopalian Phillips Brooks to engage Harp's theological situation of the Episcopal Church. Harp's revisionist historiographical argument, rejecting the Broad Church ‘myth of synthesis’ for a more agonized tale of trenchant party battles, is welcome for its perceptiveness and depth of analysis, not least as these historical difficulties remain at the centre of contemporary intra-Anglican and ecumenical conversations. Harp's commitment to a ‘Reformed’ and ‘evangelical’ Anglicanism, however, raises a series of questions – concerning the nature of orthodoxy and Christian doctrine, as well as ‘Protestant’ identity – that deserve greater investigation, and that historians and theologians would do well to pursue together.

Abstract: The problems of the church today must be carefully considered in order to think carefully about what must be done to achieve a church growth in accordance with God's will. In fact today the church is not growing because so many people were lost after they accepted Jesus. A general description of continued guidance that results in church growth that is happening today is that the problem is the existence of a weakness and negligence of the church, namely the lack of steady implementation of further guidance services which results in church growth being less stable in quality. Abstract:
The Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa was formed on 26th September 1999 as the result of the union of the black Reformed Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa and the white-dominated Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa. Various unsuccessful attempts had been made since the latter part of the nineteenth century to effect union. In the spirit of national euphoria which surrounded the first democratic elections in South Africa in1994, the Reformed Presbyterian Church initiated union discussions with the Presbyterian Church. The subsequent union was based on what are now considered to be inadequate preparations and many unresolved problems have emerged to test the witness of the new denomination, not the least of which is racism. At its 2002 General Assembly, as the result of what appeared to be a financial crisis, the Uniting Presbyterian Church appointed a Special Committee on Reformation was established to investigate the problems in the denomination and to bring proposals for dealing with these issues.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to analyse the perception of the problems of the history of the status of the Macedonian Orthodox Church in the politics of memory of modern Bulgaria. The author analyses the role and place of Macedonian church narratives in historical politics and the development of Bulgarian memorial culture. The novelty of the study lies in the analysis of the features of the religious level of the politics of memory in modern Bulgarian society as a secular state. The article analyses the perception of church issues in contemporary Bulgarian memorial culture. The article also shows that the politics of memory promoting the perception of the history of the Church in the Bulgarian ethnic coordinate system develop as a part of Bulgarian nationalism based on the denial of the Macedonian identity as different from the Bulgarian one. It is assumed that the mass media and the political elites of modern Bulgaria, as the main agents of historical politics, actively use the problems of the history of the Church on the territory of Macedonia to consolidate national identity and conduct a policy of memory. The results of the study suggest that the memorial culture of modern Bulgarian society in contexts of the perception of the history of the Church on the territory of Macedonia is distinguished by a nationalistic character, and the perception of church history in the collective memory of Bulgaria develops as a part of memorial wars with Macedonia, which promotes its own memorial canon and the culture of historical memory, denied in Bulgaria.
