Abstract:

Abstract:
SummaryThis article is a practical-theological discourse about the appearance and the importance of the Church. For many who are interested in Christianity, there are different obstacles in the form of the institutional Church and organised religion. We cannot avoid the fact that the Church does not have a favourable reputation in our society. Not just for people watching her from the outside, but even the mere existence of the Church sometimes creates a problem for our individualistic society. This trend was fostered in the 1960s and ‘70s when the Church was overlooked and rejected by theologians of various Christian traditions, including for example adherents of Liberation Theology. The Church was sometimes understood as a deformed expression of a certain entity that should in reality be the Kingdom of God.However, the teaching of Jesus in the Gospels gives the Church quite an important role, and the focus of the New Testament Epistles is church planting and building. In spite of all critical comments and distortions of the past and the present, I will argue that Christianity cannot exist without the Church. The Church is not a relic of the past but a substantial part of the gospel. We are allowed to seek a contextualised expression of the Church, but not to avoid her altogether. She is not an invention of Christians; she is the beloved bride of Christ that plays an important role in the plan of salvation and a crucial role in interpreting the Scriptures.RésuméCet article est un discours de théologie pratique sur la naissance et l’importance de l’Église.

Abstract:

The transfer of the governing seat of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to the capital of Ukraine, though not equal to the Church's exit to “Greater” Ukraine, but prompts an analysis of the respective possibilities of the heir to the baptism of Vladimir. This is what the Head of her Church calls her, emphasizing essentially the main motive behind the decision to move her residence. In his "Address on the Construction of the Temple of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Kiev." Lubomyr Husar stressed that the UGCC, as "part of the Kyiv root", is now free in a free state. There is now an opportunity "to return the heart of our Church to the capital city of Kyiv, from where it was born, from where it was removed by cruel circumstances."

This article examines the history of the complex relationship between the Russian state and the Russian Orthodox Church. On the one hand, the Orthodox Church was under the protection of the state, and on the other, it was dependent on it. The synodal system of church administration was part of the state apparatus with all the ensuing consequences. Particular attention is paid to religious policy of the emperors, which was aimed at establishing national and religious monolithic and strengthening the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in public life of the country, noting that many problems in the sphere of state-religious and inter-religious relations were associated with the processes of entry and integration of several nations into the Russian Empire.

The third millennium set new requirements for the Orthodox Church, the decision of which depends on its role and place in the future. The question is whether the Church will be really catholic, universal or remain purely local. New demands of a modern man put Orthodoxy in a dilemma - whether to preserve traditionally conservative status, but whether to go through the adaptation of believers and to the requirements of modern times, as it did, for example, the Roman Catholic Church

Abstract:
SummaryChristians have traditionally experienced tensions between their Christian identity and their citizenship in a democracy. This tension is a special variant of the inevitable underlying classical challenge for Christians in all societies where they live. Following Augustine, this can be expressed as the challenge to combine the dual citizenships of the city of God and the ‘city of man’. Despite such tensions, under God’s providence the participation of Christians can also lead to temporary blessings for their societies. Western history provides many examples of this, the development of democracy being one of them. In the current post-Christian context these historical fruits of Christian influence have often become detached from their roots and therefore become unstable or burdened by difficulties and even deadlocks. Being still connected to that root, Christians can often provide clarification and contribute to solutions. This Christian contribution can be made fruitful, for example, in the contemporary clash between Western European liberal and Eastern European illiberal versions of democracy. The article concludes with five points of attention for Christian participation in a democracy: staying anchored in the Church as the political community of the future kingdom, considering earthly political identifications as secondary, developing public grass roots activities from within the Church, realising that moral aims in the context of society have to be different from those in the context of the Church, and remaining faithful to a prophetic lifestyle in word and deed.

Any inquiry into the condition of the churches to-day must consider the gulf existing between the church and the working class. We hardly realize, I think, that by a great section of the proletariat our religious organizations are regraded as the stronghold of hypocrisy and oppression. We hardly realize the bitterness that that these workers fell toward us as they repeat once again: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers. Therefore, shall ye receive the greater damnation.”

Abstract:
The Problem of the Uniate Churches The current problem of the Uniate Churches is illustrated by an analysis of two major documents of Vatican Council ll. The decrees on the Oriental Churches and on Ecumenism were made with two different perspectives in mind. These correspond to two conceptions of the Church and its universality. On the one hand, there is the pyramidal ecclesiology of the Counter-Reformation, whose centralizing movement is focussed on the bishop of Rome. On the other, there is the recovery of an „ecclesiology of Communion”, where the universal Church is seen as a Communion of Communions, a Church of Churches. In the first case, the typical oriental Church is seen as already united with the bishop of Rome. In the second, it is an Orthodox Church, in co mm union with the Ecumenical Patriarch or one of the patriarchs of the Non-Chalcedonian Churches. Thus, two ecclesiologies compete in the Catholic mind. The ecclesiology of communion, now seen as the major force within Vatican II, has not been totally explored. The way of the universal Communion lies in a dialogue of the Uniate Churches with their Orthodox or Non-Chalcedonian counterparts, in view of restoring communion between them. In the ecumenical context now in the making, a double communion should be possible once the doctrinal orthodoxy and liturgical integrity of each side had been acknowledged. In this way, the Uniate Churches may still have a prophetic function.

Abstract:
We often interact with machines that react in real time to our actions (robots, websites etc). They are modelled as reactive systems, that continuously interact with their environment. The goal of reactive synthesis is to automatically generate a system from the specification of its behaviour so as to replace the error-prone low-level development phase by a high-level specification design. In the classical setting, the set of signals available to the machine is assumed to be finite. However, this assumption is not realistic to model systems which process data from a possibly infinite set (e.g. a client id, a sensor value, etc.). The goal of this thesis is to extend reactive synthesis to the case of data words. We study a model that is well-suited for this more general setting, and examine the feasibility of its synthesis problem(s). We also explore the case of non-reactive systems, where the machine does not have to react immediately to its inputs

Abstract:
Background: One of the main characteristics of the Ukrainian religious field is conflict between two large Orthodox Churches – Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) and Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). These Churches embrace most part of orthodox population and it makes their conflict potentially dangerous for society. The Russian invasion February 24, 2022 makes many problems for UOC because it is considered to be part of state-depending Russian Orthodox Church. As a result, many believers turned their backs on this church, and the state changed its politics toward it rather harshly. But the extent of the changes in belonging to this church remains uncertain and requires assessment. Purpose: To assess the changes in mass self-identification with Ukrainian Orthodox Church in condition of Russia-Ukraine war. Methods: The analysis of statistical data of the moving of religious community in Ukrainian religious field and analysis of data of confessional identification in national representative public opinion polls. Results: Data of public opinion polls show that on the level of identification with the UOC a significant impact was made by large-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022 only. Only in the polls in 2022 there was a significant decrease in the corresponding figure. However, the level of such identification has remained stable even in the situations of the Russian aggression of 2014-2021. Conclusion: Data of public opinion polls show that the large-scale Russian invasion of 2022 has significantly influenced the adherence to and the orientation of the UOC. But at the same time, assessments of such changes, which are making on the confessional identification in these surveys, may be somewhat overstated, and they should be treated with great caution, especially if you base on them a politics in such dangerous area as religion. The UOC has been facing powerful challenges for many years. These challenges have dramatically increased since February 24, 2022, but even now this Church has shown considerable sustainability and the issue of halting of its functioning remains quite conflict-prone, while the benefits from its closing seem rather doubtful. Abstract:
The main goal of the patrimonial intervention in Santa Maria la Mayor, the main church of Rubielos de Mora in Spain, has a clear focus on eliminating the humidity coming from the subsoil and its related pathologies. These problems are inherent to the building’s structure. Many historical buildings’ foundations and walls directly contact the soil, creating a common cause for different pathologies. In our study case, this is aggravated as the church has been built on a ravine with flowing water. The solution for the new pavement needs to solve two problems. On the one hand, a technical one to solve water access inside the church and its pathologies. On the other hand, a geometrical one, to solve a geometrically accurate mesh of industrial cut stone pavement with the irregular geometry of the church. Historically we can find different individual solutions for these problems. The presented solution comes from a different starting point to unite both problems as one, as they are related.Historically, churches were built based on layouts that tried to solve with the same method different and diverse problems. These layouts looked for spatial harmony and proportions across the church, sizing the structural elements based on numerical relationships. Iconic shapes reference iconic meanings and links between the physical and the metaphysical world, where every element found its exact place.Following this train of thought laid by the master builders who predeceased us, the solution must be unique, coherent, and based upon the church layout. The new pavement fuses the old and the new, creating a contemporary solution for historical problems, employing historical methods with current technology. It solves humidity and geometry with a mutual solution for Santa Maria la Mayor.

Abstract:
The Roman Catholic Church had a special influence. During the economic and cultural upswing, an abbey built in Cluny became a sample in the church building during the 9th11th century. Various trends in the cathedral building existed in different regions of Western Europe. On the Baltic Sea coast, the Pope of Rome and the Holy Roman Emperor started to spread the Catholic faith by the mid-12th century. In cities, cathedrals took the leading position and replaced monastery churches in the 13th century. The commercial importance of the trading centre of Lubeck increased when it joined with Hamburg in 1241 to form the nucleus of the Hanseatic League. Churches for citizenship Catholic parishes became architectural dominates in Hanseatic cities. An important trade city of Riga became the main economic base of the Teutonic Order and the Riga Archbishopric Centre, where urban space developed. Research object: urban space of the 13th and 14th centuries in Hanseatic cities. Research problem: sacral buildings changed urban aesthetics and the development of cities planning; the spatial and artistic quality of Hanseatic cities had been sufficiently studied to preserve their identity during the development of the contemporary urban environment. Novelty: analysis of common and distinctive artistic features in European and Latvian Hanseatic cities in the 13th and 14th centuries. Research goal: analyse the impact of churches on the development of cities in the 13th and 14th centuries. Methods: analysis of archive documents, cartographic materials, studies of published literature, an inspection of churches in nature, photo fixation.

Abstract:
The present paper provides an overview of the situation of church bodies when dealing with subsidies. The starting position and topicality of this topic has been the subject of intense debate in the media and in the political sphere, also for church sector for some time. A look at the figures shows that numerous funding programmes from EU, federal and/or state programmes could well be eligible for church bodies, but that the funds provided are rarely or never called up. The problems lie in the complexity of the funding programmes and the respective guidelines and extend right into the organisational structures of the spartan church administration. A glance at the federal government’s funding database shows the importance of the topic. Tight budgets due to declining church tax revenues, lack of personnel capacities, demographic conditions are inhibiting factors in funding management on the part of church administrations.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT By request of the Archbishopric of Zaragoza there is realized from 2011 an exhaustive study of the situation of the Parish Church dedicated to the Asunción of Our Lady (XVIIIth century) of Juslibol (Zaragoza, Spain). This Church has suffered for many years problems of deformations and settlements caused by the combination of several particularly unfavorable factors, such as: the poor quality of the support ground, its situation on a slope on a half-slope, and leaks from a supply network, and especially sewage network, which have favored processes of dissolution-subsidence of the ground below foundations. A support system (jet-grouting), such as underpinning, was provided to ensure the stability of the structure but the problem does not fit only to the building of the Church. An aspect that had not been sufficiently addressed until now is the situation of cracks recognized in the Church in relation to those existing in the surrounding area. From the diagram of the recognized cracks in the pavement of the streets and squares, as well as in the buildings themselves, a lateral correlation of these can be made; obtaining a system, toward the top of the slope, in consecutive discharge arches, that give sense to the idea of a descending flow that fits well to the morphology of alluvial fan of the primitive ravine It can be said that the problem affecting the Church, as regards the movements it is recording at the moment, has its origin in a much broader area which includes at least a part of the slope that corresponds to the old alluvial fan of the ravine that is located right in the head. Currently, models and calculations have been made that have allowed us to assess a restoration-stabilization project that has recently been initiated.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to create a system of knowledge representation in information systems most similar to the model of human knowledge representation. The problem of plain arithmetic operations and numerals representation was chosen as a main goal. Knowledge representation in general terms was chosen for the current problem as a first goal. For this purpose psychological theories and experiments about human knowledge representation models were overviewed. As en example, the "violin" experiment was given. This experiment confirms the idea of information representation in human's mind as a net of entities connected by associative relations. As an analogue of such structure in information technologies world semantic networks were considered. This structure was chosen because semantic networks use the same idea of knowledge representation as a graph. Ontology as a pattern of semantic networks construction is also considered. Following this pattern edges and their relations are joined into classes with common properties and behavior. Finally, technical and psychological approaches were compared to chose the most correct way to represent information as humans do. But the problem of numerals representation in human's mind also has its own psychological problems. Such concepts of numbers for adults and children differences were shown. Requirements for this concept were specified, such as: the measure and the sequence of information representation. Guided by this rules the concept of Church numerals was chosen. This concept exists in lambda calculus, which base ideas were described in the paper as well. Church numbers approach in terms of semantic networks was also given. For calculations simplification the addition table idea was used and applied with semantic networks context. But a human usually uses place-value notation when big numbers are required. And Church numbers use too much memory in this situation (an addition table grows too fast with maximum of number defined in Church notation). So the place-value notation which uses Church numbers as digits and as a position marker was given.

Abstract:
It might be assumed churches coming from diverse cultural backgrounds would also express notable differences in how they conceptualize, operate, and envision the role of church, especially during times of crisis. However, despite having differing access to resources and levels of technological preparedness, this study found that congregations from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds in Indiana responded surprisingly similar to the digital shift that was required of their congregations during the Covid-19 pandemic. In our study of Indiana churches use of technology during the pandemic, we found White, African American and Multicultural congregations all approached digital technology as an essential “tool” to be used to solve the problem of sustaining weekly gatherings. The only notable difference was a slight shift between 2020 to 2021 in African American congregations manifested in their perceptions of technology. These congregations began the pandemic conceptualizing technology as a simple tool to help them replicate in-person gatherings, but a year later they primarily saw technology as an innovative way to build new community connections. Interestingly, a similar shift in perspective was not noted amongst White congregations.

Kayo, Genku, and Nobue Suzuki. Measurement of air change behaviour at Finnish apartment rooms. Department of the Built Environment, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.54337/aau541579038.

Full text
Abstract:
While the expectation for natural ventilation is increasing under the context of COVID-19, fresh air at residential houses in Finland is basically guaranteed by mechanical ventilation systems. It means that natural ventilation is not considered as an available potential of ventilation in Finnish building regulation. Even if the mechanical ventilation system handles the air quality, the natural ventilation by window opening is expected to be a supportive measure. However, there is not enough measured data about how much air change is fulfilled by window opening. The article describes the evaluation of fresh air accessibility by window openings at six Finnish apartments. To understand the behaviour of air change, CO2 mass balance equation model was applied. The results of summer season clarified that the actual number of air changes are 085 to 1.54 times per hour with one-side opening. The CO2 mass balance model for apartments, which is a kind of tracer gas decay method, is an effective way to estimate the actual number of air changes without preventing occupants’ daily living. Since some buildings, such as residential, school, churches, are affected by the moisture problems, the management of moisture behaviour by both natural and mechanical ventilation is essential.
