Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Introduction: Preterm delivery is the delivery before 37 weeks of gestation are completed. Preterm birth is a major course of neonatal morbidity and mortality, the incidence of premature delivery in developedcountries is 5 to 9%. Aims of this study were to determine the common etiological factors for preterm delivery, most common weeks of gestation for pretern delivery, and most commom way of delivery for preterm delivery. Methods: The study included 600 patients divided into two groups, experimental group (included 300 preterm delivered pregnant women), control group (included 300 term delivered women). Results: The incidence of preterm delivery in pregnant women younger than 18 years was 4.4%, and in pregnant women older than 35 years was 14%. 44.6 % of preterm delivered women at the experimentalgroup had lower education. In the experimental group burdened obstetrical history had 29%, 17.2% had a preterm delivery, 35.6% had a premature rupture of membranes, 15% had a preterm delivery before32 weeks of gestation, 12.4% between 32-33.6 weeks of gestation, while 72.6% of deliveries were between 34- 36.6 weeks of gestation. Multiple pregnancy as an etiological factor was present in 10.07% ofcases. Extragenital diseases were present in 10.4%. In the experimental group there were 29%, while in the control group there were 15% subjects with burdened obstetrical history. Conclusions: Preterm birth more often occurs in a pregnant women younger than 18 and older than 35 years, and in a pregnant women of lower educational degree. Preterm delivery in the most commoncases was fi nished in period from 34 to 36.6 weeks of gestation. The most common etiological factor of preterm delivery in the experimental group was preterm rupture of membranes and idiopathic pretermdelivery.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Plasma catecholamines circulate either in conjugated or unconjugated forms. In adult humans, sulfoconjugated catecholamines predominate; however, there is considerable variation between species. In a variety of pathophysiological states catecholamine conjugation is believed to represent an important mechanism of inactivation of high circulating catecholamine levels. To date, there have been few data in developing animals or humans on catecholamine sulfoconjugation. We studied the differences in free and sulfoconjugated catecholamines in full term (141 +/- 1 days) and preterm (123 +/- 1 days) chronically catheterized fetal sheep and determined the changes in free and sulfoconjugated catecholamines in response to hypoxia. The results demonstrate that term and preterm animals have a comparable percentage of basal circulating sulfoconjugated catecholamines (free-to-total ratio 50-60%). In response to hypoxia, both free and sulfoconjugated catecholamines were promptly elevated with significant increases in each by 5 min of hypoxia. This was true for both term and pretern animals. The proportion of free and total catecholamines remained relatively constant during hypoxia despite a 5- to 10-fold increase in circulating levels of each. These data demonstrate that fetal sheep, as early as 80% gestation, have a well developed mechanism for sulfoconjugation and subsequent inactivation of the high circulating levels of catecholamines seen during fetal and newborn life.

Abstract:
The present research, divided into two parts, is aimed analysing the function of the interdictal protection in the Roman legal experience, both in terms of content, through the analysis of the individual cases under its cover, and in a dynamic perspective, trying to give a temporal location, however approximate, to its origin and studying the regulation within the different phases of Roman procedural history. The first three chapters examine the overall scope of this remedy, which was accorded to protect a heterogeneous group of legal situations and, according to the most recent epigraphic and papyrus findings, did not remain an expression of the praetor's court in Rome, but was applied in different places of the Empire. In the second part of this work we focus on the procedure that, following the postulatio of the interested party, could lead to the granting of an interdictum. This procedure was not a mere preliminary contingency to the well known iudicia ex causa interdicti but that an autonomous and essential procedure within the interdictal system as a whole.

Abstract:
This text is about racial relations and their representations. It concentrates on whiteness and blackness ideals developed during the United States of America history, debating about representations constructed by the religious books of a black nationalism movement named Nation of Islam, whose author is its honorable minister Elijah Muhammad. An analysis of the contents of these books compared with others black movements and intellectuals ideas (Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Marcus Garvey, Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Du Bois, etc.), along with the notion of whiteness – ontological paradigm for the national constitution of United States –, seeks to think on identity and speech place considering the influence of social markers of difference such as race and religion mainly. At last, Nation of Islam discourse is considered antidialogical because it preaches the death of its interlocutor, what really happened.

Abstract:
Pretoria was a fortified city during the First- (1880-1881) and Second Anglo Boer War (1899-1902). In total, about 65 fortifications were constructed in and around Pretoria. Only 24 of the original 65 stronghold’s locations are known. An urban trail is proposed to illustrate the connections that existed between these fortifications. The distortion of heritage by the contemporary landscape of Pretoria are investigated by a overnight facility design at the Eastern Redoubt on Strubenkop, Lynnwood. The route provides a practical solution to use these derelict structures in a contemporary way which will stimulate the protection and further investigation of Pretoria’s fortifications. The overnight facility, together with the other similar facilities on the known fortifications, guides the present-day fort user through the streets of Pretoria to communicate the current and historic landscape.

Abstract:
This dissertation sets out from the black, the darkness and from the void as a place where, in the absence of references to the other, there remains no choice but to look within. Or rather, to look at what slips out from within, faced by the experience of absence. The process presented here contemplates the origin of the image, about how much of it is descriptive and limited to the registering of the view in the world and how much of it has its origin in the imagination, the private experience of each individual. It also contemplates the relationship between image and language, through fragments of photographs and texts. It navegates between possibilities of place, of living, of being, transiting through the possibility of overflowing scenes more imaginable than actually visible. The result of this research is a book wich I named Black, composed of texts and photographs taken between 2009 and 2013, during artistic residencies in Torres Vedras (Portugal), Pune and Bangalore (India), Copenhagen (Denmark), Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Recife (Brazil). I propose \"January 2009\" as an introduction to what I am calling a bookexperience, a book that is open to various readings. This narrative, in wich I tell of the experience of being in absolute pitch-blackness for 5 or 10 minutes, is the starting point for the images (photographs, white light in the black of darkness) as well as the texts (words, black ink on white paper). Black has the intent of being soft; in some way moldable by handling, moldable to the reader. A notebook of images, or memories that arise between fade ins and fade outs, between light and shadow. Flashes in the darkness and brief forms.

Abstract:
AbstractMaternal demographics and past obstetric history provide important information regarding the risk of preterm birth. Careful assessment for these factors at pregnancy registration is crucial for preterm birth risk assessment and signposting of care to mitigate preterm birth where possible. Demographic factors evidenced to increase the risk of PTB include extremes of maternal age, black ethnicity, and history of domestic abuse. Obstetric risk factors include a history of previous preterm birth, late miscarriage, stillbirth, cervical surgery, or uterine variants. In an index pregnancy, multiple pregnancy is a main predictor of preterm birth. Early pregnancy risk assessment for these factors can inform generic measures aimed at mitigating the occurrence and consequences of preterm birth. Importantly, further risk assessment and surveillance, including where possible assessment of the cervix for shortening by transvaginal ultrasound, can inform antenatal care to optimise birth outcomes, by referral to a preterm birth prevention or high risk pregnancy service, or offering cervical cerclage or progesterone supplementation.

Abstract:
Preterm birth is the leading cause of newborn death. Many premature survivors have serious and lifelong complications like cerebral palsy, learning and developmental disabilities, and hearing and vision impairment [1]. An accurate, predictive tool for preterm birth risk assessment does not exist. This research works towards developing tools based on mechanical measures of the cervix to assess risk for preterm birth.

Abstract:
The normal course of acuity development for healthy fullterm infants has been well documented using both forced-choice preferential-looking (FPL) and visually evoked potential (VEP) procedures. This normal course of acuity development has also been shown to be vulnerable to the effects of abnormal visual experience during early development. Whether preterm birth, and attendant extreme immaturity of the visual system, renders infants more susceptible to the effects of visual experience is a question which remains unanswered. One approach to this issue has been to examine the impact of preterm visual experience on the rate of acuity development. A more rapid rate of acuity development for preterm infants than for fullterm infants would provide evidence for the influence of visual experience on the developing preterm visual system. Most FPL and VEP acuity data suggest that the rate of visual development for preterm and fullterm infants is equivalent when they are compared on the basis of postconceptual age; i.e., visual experience does not accelerate development in preterm infants (Baraldi et al., 1981; Birch and Spencer, 1989; Dobson, 1980, 1983; Fantz, 1975; Morante et al., 1982; vanHof-vanDuin and Mohn, 1984, 1985). However, there are also several reports, including both FPL and VEP studies, which are consistent with accelerated visual development in preterm infants, including FPL acuity (Mohn and vanHof-vanDuin, 1986), sweep VEP acuity (Norcia et al., 1985), and VEP latency (Sokol and Jones, 1978).

Abstract:
Protein S is a vitamin K-dependent plasmaprotein functioning as a non-enzymatic cofactor to the activated form of protein C in the degradation of coagulationfactors Va and VIIa. In the circulation approximately 60% of protein S is complexed to the complement protein C4b-binding protein (C4BP). Only the remaining, free fraction exhibits protein Ca cofactor activity. The plasma concentrations of protein S and C4BP were determined in 25 term and 26 preterm infants. Both proteins werequantified with radioimmunoassays. The free, functionally active form of proteinS and the total protein S concentration were determined separately. The level ofC4BP in preterm infants was found to be very low (mean 6% of the adult level). In term infants the level had increased to a mean of 18%. Also the total concentration of protein S was decreased in preterm as well as in term infants; 18% and 31% of the adult level, respectively. Free protein S was the predominant form in plasma representing 83 % of total protein S in preterm and 68 % in term infants. This was probably due to the very low C4BP levels. In adult controls the corresponding value was 34%. The plasma concentration of free protein S in preterm and term infants, when compared to the adult level, was 44% and 66%, respectively. These results demonstrate that although the total protein S concentration in preterm and term infants was very low when compared to adult levels, the difference in the concentration of free, functionally active protein S between infants and adults was less pronounced.

Abstract:
Abstract Preterm labor is an important issue in the field of Obstetrics and Gynacology. The earlier the diagnosis, the better the prevention of preterm labor. This study examines the static and dynamic loads on the cervix, which is one of the causes of preterm labor, from a biomechanical point of view. A simple biomechanical model is formulated to assess the loads bearing on the cervix. Results indicate the need for extreme caution warranted in cases of high risk pregnancies in highly dynamic environments. In view of the very delicate nature of the issue, it is essential to formulate better simulation models using indirectly gathered data.

The cervix plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy pregnancy, acting as a mechanical barrier to hold the fetus inside the uterus during gestation. Altered mechanical properties of the cervical tissue are suspected to play an important role in spontaneous preterm birth. However, not much is known about the mechanical properties of human cervical tissue and the etiology of spontaneous preterm birth.

Abstract:
The human cervix serves a dual structural function throughout pregnancy. Prior to term, the cervix remains closed and firm to support the increasing weight of the fetus. At term, it must soften ( i.e., ripen) and dilate to permit birth. Timing of cervical ripening is critical for pregnancy outcome. Cervical insufficiency, or preterm ripening, is diagnosed if a cervix is not stiff enough to support the pregnancy to term and may cause miscarriage or preterm labor. This is sometimes observed mid-pregnancy when funneling at the internal os or shortening of the cervix is observed during a routine ultrasound. Women with a shorter cervix are at a higher risk for spontaneous preterm delivery. 1,2 While cervical length is not a definitive predictor of preterm delivery, a short cervix increases the risk. Moreover, the exact length at which the cervix is considered to be ‘short’ is poorly defined. While transvaginal B-mode ultrasound can identify a short cervix, this procedure is performed when clinically indicated. Cervical ripening and effacement is asymptomatic and thus is often missed until after a patient has suffered a second or third trimester miscarriage.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: Malaria infection in pregnancy contributes to low birth weight through preterm delivery and intrau-uterine growth restriction (IUGR). Maternal haemoglobin concentrations were found lower in malaria infected than non-infected women and reduced haemoglobin was the main determinant of preterm delivery. This study aimed to investigate the effect of malaria infection on premature birth delivery. Subjects and Method: Meta-analysis ad systematic review was conducted by collecting published articles from Google Scholar, PubMed, Springer Link, and Science Direct databases, from year 2010 to 2020. Keywords used “malaria in pregnancy”, “malaria during pregnant AND preterm”, malaria during pregnant AND preterm AND cross sectional study AND adjusted ratio”. The inclusion criteria were full text, using cross sectional study design, and reporting adjusted odds ratio. The articles were selected by PRISMA diagram. The quantitative data were analyzed by Review Manager 5.3 using random effect model. Results: 6 articles reported that malaria infection in pregnant women increased the risk of premature birth delivery (aOR= 1.72; 95% CI= 1.15 to 2.57; p= 0.009). Conclusion: Malaria infection in pregnant women increases the risk of premature birth delivery. Keywords: malaria infection, premature birth delivery Correspondence: Feri Yuda Anggara. Abstract:
Preterm labor is the leading cause of neonatal mortality and accounts for 70% of the total cost of neonatal health care. Premature softening of the cervix has been identified as one of the primary causes of preterm labor. As the biochemistry of the cervix is distinct between the proximal and distal portions, the objective of this study was to determine the viscoelastic properties of these portions in mid-pregnancy (Day 15–16) relative to virgin Long-Evans rats. This will serve to establish baseline data for future studies that will aim to induce preterm labor in this model. The cervix was divided into distal and proximal portions that were tested independently. Each portion was tested in unconfined compression to 20% strain and held for 4 minutes followed by a recovery period of 30 minutes. The stress-relaxation response was modeled using the quasi-linear viscoelastic (QLV) theory developed by Professor Fung (1972). The parameters governing the viscous response, C, τ1 and τ2, were found to be significantly different between virgin and pregnant tissues in distal portions; however τ2 was the only viscous parameter found to be significantly different for the proximal portion (p<0.05). These results show an increased magnitude of the viscous response with more rapid relaxation for the pregnant cervix. Future studies will evaluate the cervix both postpartum and upon induction of preterm labor. Additionally, contractile and biochemical assays will be used to correlate these changes in passive behavior to active properties and tissue constituents.
