Abstract:
In multiple operation stamping processes, a press tonnage signal measured by press tonnage sensors installed on press linkages/uprights, is the summation of die forces at all stations. Different from the current practice of using a whole cycle of press tonnage signals to monitor the compound condition of all stations, this paper proposes a new method to use the partitioned monitoring segments of press tonnage signals to monitor individual station conditions. For this purpose, a generic signal segmentation principle is proposed, and the Hotelling T2 control charts are developed with consideration of the interactions among stations. A real case study of a doorknob stamping process is provided to demonstrate analysis procedures and effectiveness of the developed methodology.

Abstract:
The press station is the main station for quoting oil from the pulp of palm oil (CPO). In the screw press, there are several things that need to be considered in order to determine the success of the extraction process, namely the percentage level of oil losses which is one of the benchmarks for the success of extraction at the press station. Some things that can affect the percentage level of oil losses at the press station are the amount of pressure on the press machine and the level of chopping blades in the digester. This observation is carried out by direct observation method at PT. Palmina Utama, using a purposive sampling method.samples taken for the analysis of oil losses at this press station are in the form of fiber, the persentage value of oil losses is determined by exstraction using soxhlet with n-hexane solvent. Samples for analysis were taken from five press machines at the press station in the form of fiber and taken three times each at three points, namely the left side, the middle side and the right side with an interval of two hours, then the samples were mixed and weighed as much as nine to ten gram. The highest oil losses in February were 4.48% and the lowest losses during February were 4.105%. Based on statistical analysis, that F-Count is smaller than F-table 5% and 1%. Thus, pressure does not affect at the percentage of oil losses.

Abstract:
A transfer or progressive die process consists of multiple stations working simultaneously in each stroke. This paper aims to develop a new methodology that can decompose press tonnage signals to obtain individual station signals without using in-die sensors. In the paper, two different tonnage decomposition tests, as well as the associated data analysis algorithms, are developed. Statistical profile analyses and an in-die sensor test were conducted to validate the proposed methodology.

Abstract:
Hydraulic stretch forming is a very important technology. Punch press has achieved multi-station automatic processing in the press area, which has greatly improved the efficiency. However, the main domestic stretching machine is single-stretching hydraulic machine at present. Compared with punch press, hydraulic stretching machines take less space and have better security, but they make less efficiency and have lower degree of automation. Hence, in order to take the advantage of hydraulic stretching machines and enhance the automation level, studies on multi-position automatic stretching machine occupies an important position. This paper proposes a design scheme of Six-station Automatic Hydraulic Stretching Machine (SAHSM) according to the practical production. The overall 3D structure of SAHSM is designed based on Solidworks to prove the theoretical possibility of the program. Then modal analysis is operated based on FEA of the key components of stretching machine module to improve reliability of the product and overcome the disadvantage of the traditional checking method, the first two-order modes are obtained to prove the impossibility of the resonance. At last, ADAMS-based virtual prototype is analyzed to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the SAHSM dynamic design proposed in this paper

Abstract:
This study is part of a research project aims at off-line programming and verification of industrial control systems. In this paper, an off-line method for press line throughput rate optimization and control system verification is proposed, implemented and evaluated. The main tool is a virtual press station, developed by the first author, consisting of an emulated control system for a feeder/extractor robot which communicates with 3D-simulated production equipment. Moreover, several virtual press stations have been coupled and synchronized in a virtual press line. An important feature of the system is that the virtual robot controller is emulated, yielding an exact representation of the control logic and the possibility to run the entire system in virtual real time. The application considered is a sheet metal forming process where it is difficult to achieve maximum capacity utilization. There is much to gain if the control logic is improved and the throughput rate is increased. For this purpose, an automated robot motion optimization method is implemented and evaluated, using the virtual press line.

Abstract:
Analyzes the change of hydraulic pressure and flow rate during the opening/closing and curing processes in the hydraulic system of hydraulic tire curing machine and proposes a new design of the hydraulic station. By using three groups of motors-variable piston pump to work independently, the new hydraulic station can reduce machine downtime. Through using accumulator to keep pressure and delaying switching time of the valve to gradually release pressure, the new hydraulic station solves the problem of the severe impact caused by pressure relief and improve the safety and relia-bility.

Abstract:
Engineering problems have characteristics such as a large number of variables, non-linear, computationally expensive, complex and black-box (i.e. unknown internal structure). These characteristics prompt difficulties for existing optimisation techniques. A consequence of this is that the required optimisation time rapidly increases beyond what is practical. There is a needfor dedicated techniques to exploit the power of mathematical optimisation tosolve engineering problems. The objective of this thesis is to investigate thisneed within the field of automation, specifically for control optimisation ofautomated systems. The thesis proposes an optimisation algorithm for optimising the controlof automated interacting production stations (i.e. independent stations thatinteract by for example material handling robots). The objective of the optimisation is to increase the production rate of such systems. The non-separable nature of these problems due to the interactions, makes them hard to optimise. The proposed algorithm is called the Constructive Cooperative CoevolutionAlgorithm (C3). The thesis presents the experimental evaluation of C3, bothon theoretical and real-world problems. For the theoretical problems, C3 istested on a set of standard benchmark functions. The performance, robustness and convergence speed of C3 is compared with the algorithms. This shows that C3 is a competitive optimisation algorithm for large-scale non-separable problems.C3 is also evaluated on real-world industrial problems, concerning thecontrol of interacting production stations, and compared with other optimisation algorithms on these problems. This shows that C3 is very well-suited for these problems. The importance of considering the energy consumption and equipment wear, next to the production rate, in the objective function is also investigated. This shows that it is crucial that these are considered to optimise the overall performance of interacting production stations.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Lo stato sociale nel pensiero politico contemporaneo. Il Novecento. Parte seconda: dal dopoguerra a oggi is intended to complete the overview of the presence of the Welfare State concept in contemporary political thought that began in 2007 with the volume dealing with the nineteenth century and then continued in 2009 with the first part of the reconstruction relating to the twentieth century (both published by Firenze University Press). The final period, from the end of the Second World War to the present, is marked by deeply conflicting situations. These range from, on the one hand, the success of the institutions proper to the Welfare State among the artificers of one of the most socially prosperous periods of Western history to, on the other, the surfacing of critical elements with repercussions which are among the most serious political issues of the present time. Uncoiling right through the second half of the twentieth century is the relentless clash between broadly social-democratic theories and those of a neo-liberalist stamp, with the addition of a third source of reflection: the "critical thought" aimed at underscoring the shortcomings of the Welfare State and its substantial dependence on the capitalist cycle. These are the historiographical issues addressed in this book by a number of scholars, engaged in reconstructing the amplitude and the internal breakdown of a debate that involves the political philosophy of the entire contemporary western world. Abstract:

AbstractThis introduction summarizes chapters of Part II. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-15-8848-8_9, Yamamoto (Jpn J Real Estate Sci 31:88–96, 2018) has compared between the street method, the asset valuation adopted for the imposition of property tax in Japan, and the computer-assisted mass appraisal (CAMA) method generally adopted in North America focusing on education and training of valuators. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-15-8848-8_10, Yamazaki (Jpn J Real Estate Sci 31:97–101, 2018) argues that one of the major causes for relatively low density use of land in the city in Japan is the land tax system. He focuses on property tax and examines defects of the tax from view of economist. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-15-8848-8_11, Kobayashi (Jpn J Real Estate Sci 31:129–138, 2018), taking an actual example, has examined difference between precise legal interpretation of ‘exemption from real estate acquisition tax due to purpose of use’ and taxation practices conducted by local administrative bodies. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-15-8848-8_12, Shirakawa and Okoshi (Jpn J Real Estate Sci 31:88–96, 2017) have shown that the real estate companies were committed to transactions as dual agencies to whatsoever degree, and analyzed attributes of real estate brokerage companies which are able to be dual agencies and how such dual agency affects contract price. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-15-8848-8_13, Ueno (Jpn J Real Estate Sci 31:97–105, 2017) has analyzed impacts of the macroeconomic conditions on the land price gradient curves which are estimated using real estate data of the Tokyo Metropolitan Area in 1970, 1976, 1985, 1988, 1994, 2008, 2010, and 2016. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-15-8848-8_14, Komatsu (Jpn J Real Estate Sci 31:110–118, 2017) has analyzed impacts that refurbishment of existing apartment has on possible increase in rent using the multinomial probit model and the Tobit model. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-15-8848-8_15, Hanazato (Jpn J Real Estate Sci 31:119–128, 2017) has shown that around 90% of condominium reconstruction cases are predictable using the estimated discriminant function in terms of objective real estate data only. In Chap. 10.1007/978-981-15-8848-8_16, Ota et al. (Jpn J Real Estate Sci 31:109–119, 2018) have analyzed determinants of rent for rental house, office, and shop within 10-min walking distance from Shibuya Station in Tokyo. Multiple regression analyses are conducted and have shown that space syntax (SS) measures (Hillier and Hanson, The Social Logic of Space. Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1984) significantly affect rent as well as conventional location attributes.

Abstract:
The secessionists and their allies in the press chafed under neutrality. They charged that the unionists were using neutrality as a cover to build support for entering the war on the Union side. The secessionists suffered another hard blow at the polls on June 20, when unionist candidates won nine of Kentucky’s ten seats in the congressional elections. The Southern sympathizers and their newspaper friends pinned their last hopes on the August elections for the state legislature, in which all 100 house seats and half of the 38 senate seats were on the line. Meanwhile, as chances for a Confederate Kentucky melted in the summer heat, some Confederate papers cooled their secessionist ardor and seemed to acquiesce in neutrality, at least for the time being. Neutrality, they reasoned, was better than fighting for the North. But the secessionists stuck to their argument that the “Black Republicans” would destroy slavery and make African Americans and whites equal in Kentucky. The Union Party won its biggest victory yet in the state elections. Thus emboldened, the unionists supported Camp Dick Robinson, a recruiting station for Union army volunteers in central Kentucky. The state was on the verge of abandoning neutrality and fully embracing the Union war effort.

This epilogue traces the personal stories of key characters in the years after 1965. John H. McCray was offered editing positions at several black newspapers in the early 1960s, but the black press had begun to decline dramatically by that time. He left South Carolina and moved to Alabama to take a job at his alma mater, Talladega College. As editors of South Carolina two largest white newspapers, Thomas R. Waring, Jr., and William D. Workman, Jr. continued to oppose the new, bi-racial coalition that emerged in the Democratic Party. Modjeska Simkins appeared weekly on a black radio station in Columbia to help organize and register black voters in South Carolina. She and McCray remained estranged despite their history together launching the modern civil rights movement in the state.

Abstract:
The impact of a new transport system on the neighbourhoods surrounding the stations: The cases of Bermondsey and West Ham, London Po Nien Chen, Kayvan Karimi Space Syntax Laboratory, The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, UKE-mail: po-nien.chen.16@ucl.ac.uk, k.karimi@ucl.ac.uk Keywords: Space Syntax, Jubilee Line Extension, urban regeneration Conference topics and scale: Tools of analysis in urban morphology The impact of new public transport system on the towns and suburbs has been widely considered to be a significant aspect of urban development. However, the spatial configurations which could stimulate the transformation around the neighbourhoods of the station have not been clearly identified. It could be argued that the implementation of transport systems and the creation of new stations would enhance the mobility of the transport network and the accessibility around the station’s vicinity. Furthermore, the dynamics of pedestrian flow, generated by the new transport system might transform the social, cultural and economic activities around the stations. Therefore, the aims of this study are to analyse how the spatial configuration and the urban formation are affected by the implementation of stations and understand how the new stations emerge in the urban form. The Jubilee Line Extension (JLE) in East London, which started to operate in 2000, plays an essential role in connecting Central London with the recently developed financial district in the east. This study focuses on two stations located along the JLE, Bermondsey and West Ham, which have different topological and demographic characteristics. To determine whether the stations integrate cohesively with the urban environment, this study applies Space Syntax methods of spatial network analysis to evaluate the spatial characteristics and compares with GIS data of the house prices and land use distribution before and after the JLE. The results demonstrate a strong correlation between pedestrian movement and the distribution of residential and commercial activities within the street network structure. The study also reveals the strength and weakness of the stations, which are embedded within urban structures and suggests urban regeneration strategies through improving the accessibility and public space design. Abstract:
A big affection of the rock environment and groundwaters occured during the chemical mining of uranium in the years 1966 to 1996 in the neighbourhood of the town Straz pod Ralskem in the Czech Republic. It is necessary to clean the residual technological solutions (RTS) from the underground. The pH of the solutions in some places is still less than 2 and the concentration of sulphates reachs up to 65 g/l. The remedial activities consist of pumping of the RTS from the ground and reprocessing of the RTS in the surface technologies. The implementation of the new neutralization technologies NDS ML and NDS 10 help us with increasing of the efficiency of the remedial process. The NDS ML technology (“Mother liquor reprocessing station”) started its operation in 2009 and it processes the concentrated technological solution from the evaporation station after the alum crystalization (mother liquor) with the concentration of total dissolved solids up to 250 g/l. The principle is the neutralization of the acid solutions with the aid of the lime milk. The suspension is then filtrated in the filter press, the filter cake is deposited in the tailings pond and the filtrate is injected back into the underground rock environment. The NDS 10 technology (“Neutralization and Decontamination Station NDS 10”) started its operation in 2012 and it works on the same technological principle as the NDS ML station. The difference is that the NDS 10 station can process higher volume (4.4 m3/min) of the RTS with lower concentration of total dissolved solids 20–25 g/l. This poster describes the experiences of the state enterprise DIAMO with putting of these two neutralization technologies into operation and with using of the lime milk neutralization in such a large scale.

Abstract:
Micrographic inspection, acceleration tests, Finite Element Analysis and detailed fatigue failure calculations for combined static and dynamic loadings, were used in determining the cause of failure, and an acceptable repair solution, for a critical bolted joint. The bolted joint holds together the piston and ram within a hydraulic press. The press had been in operation for eleven years when the failure occurred. As the press is used in a critical process operation, a repair solution and future maintenance strategy was required that would minimize the possibility of future failures and permit maintenance during planned outages. This paper discusses the method that was followed to arrive at an acceptable solution.

Abstract:
It is known that the punch motion has a significant effect on sheet metal stamping operations. For example, for deep drawing operations long dwelling is desirable. For blanking operations, on the other hand, the two-step motion can reduce the noise [1]. However, the controlled punch motion cannot be realized using conventional mechanical presses, which has the advantage of being energy efficient, fast and easier to make / maintain. Servo mechanical presses solved some of the problems, but are not energy efficient (because they cannot use flywheels as the conventional mechanical presses). Following our previous research [2–4], this paper presents a new type of controllable mechanical press. It is a 2-DOF planar mechanism driven by a large constant speed motor (which takes 75% of the load) and a small servomotor (which takes 25% of the load). Though, unlike the first design, the new design uses the servomotor to drive a ball screw instead of a crank, which makes building the press simpler and controlling the press easier. The paper describes various issues in designing and controlling the press including (a) Kinematics and inverse kinematics; (b) Static force distribution analysis and parameter design; and (c) Punch motion programming and control. A 250 KN prototype has been built and the experimental testing results confirm that the press is working properly. Comparing to the existing technology, the new press is controllable and energy efficient. It is expected that it will have a significant value to the metal forming industry.

CAE Correlation of Sealing Pressure of a Press-in-Place Gasket. SAE Imposter, April 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.4271/2021-01-0299.

Full text
Abstract:
The Press-in-Place (PIP) gasket is a static face seal with self-retaining feature, which is used for the mating surfaces of engine components to maintain the reliability of the closed system under various operating conditions. Its design allows it to provide enough contact pressure to seal the internal fluid as well as prevent mechanical failures. Insufficient sealing pressure will lead to fluid leakage, consequently resulting in engine failures. A test fixture was designed to simulate the clamp load and internal pressure condition on a gasket bolted joint. A Sensor pad using TEKSCAN equipment was used to capture the overall and local pressure distribution of the PIP gasket under various engine loading conditions. Then, the Sensor pad test results were compared with simulated CAE results from computer models. Through the comparisons, it is found that the gasket sealing pressure of test data and CAE data show good correlation for bolt load condition 500N when compared to internal pressure side load condition of 0.138 MPa & 0.276 MPa. Moreover, the gasket cross-sectional pressure distribution obtained by experimental tests and CAE models correlated very well with R2 ranging from 90 to 99% for all load cases. Both CAE and Sensor pad test results shows increase in sealing pressure when internal side pressure is applied to the gasket seal.
