Abstract:
Sensitivity analysis plays a key role in structural optimization, but traditional methods of sensitivity analysis in strength and stiffness are time consuming and of high cost. In order to effectively carry out structural optimization of hydraulic press, this paper presents a novel sensitivity analysis method in structural performance of hydraulic press, which saves a great deal of time and design costs. The key dimension parameters of the optimization of design variables, which remarkably impact on the structural performance of hydraulic press, are efficiently selected. The impact order of various sensitivity parameters in strength and stiffness of machine tools is consistent with the sensitivity ranking of regression analysis. The research results provide the basis for the hydraulic machine design and references in research of machine tools and equipment.

Abstract:
Robust force control of a water-hydraulic servo system is discussed. The system treated in this paper is a model of a moulding press used for a fabrication process of large-scale integration packages. The whole surface of a wafer is covered with a thin plastic layer by the press. The performance of force control is important to obtain sufficient quality. The press is driven by a ram cylinder and a water-hydraulic servo valve. Considering the uncertainty caused by the flow characteristics of the valve in the overlap region and the mechanical stiffness of the press, a method of designing a robust force controller is proposed by applying H∞ control theory. Qualitative evaluation of modelling error is the key to the design of the robust controller. The performance of the robust controller is examined using an experimental water-hydraulic servo system set-up. It is illustrated how the system responses are influenced by the weighting function parameters of H∞ control theory.

This paper is concerned with speed control of hydraulic press system. First, the mathematical model of hydraulic press is derived from its physical characteristics. Then, based on this model, the so-called back-stepping approach is used to design a speed controller. Moreover, in order to overcome the unknown deformation resistance and some other resistance, an adaptive control scheme is introduced to this controller. Finally, a real hydraulic press model is used to validate the proposed method. Simulation results show that the adaptive controller deals with the nonlinearity effectively, and the tracking performance of the system is good.

Abstract:
The research on the nonlinear vibration compensation method in the field of forging hydraulic press is still in the blank stage. This paper studies the nonlinear vibration compensation problem of forging hydraulic press under the action of a kind of nonlinear external system and realizes the increase of a kind of nonlinear vibration in the nonlinear system of a hydraulic press. This paper proposes two methods to solve the nonlinear relationship. One is to concatenate an inverse function of a nonlinear relationship and synthesize it to obtain a linear relationship. While another is to acknowledge its nonlinear relationship and determine its output based on its nonlinear relationship. Furthermore, this paper chooses the tabu search algorithm to solve the compensation problem of nonlinear vibration and improves its search neighborhood to solve the problem of vibration range selection, analyses the vibration reinforcement calculation, and describes the specific steps of applying the tabu search algorithm. Finally, MATLAB is used to simulate and validate the designed method. The simulation results show that the method can suppress nonlinear vibration and the corresponding compensation effectiveness, proving the design method’s rationality.

Abstract:
A method of structure optimization for hydraulic press is proposed in order to reduce mass while assuring adequate stiffness. Upper beam and lower beam are determined as optimal objects by mass analysis. Key geometric parameters of upper beam and lower beam which have relatively larger impacts on mass and stiffness are extracted as design variables. In order to research relationship between stiffness, mass and design variables, command batch file is built by python language to implement automatic finite element analysis in ABAQUS. Orthogonal experimental design is used to generate samples of design variables. Calculating data are dealed with second order stepwise regression and mathematical model for structure optimization is established by regression equations. The goal of structure optimization is to decrease total mass of hydraulic press while assuring adequate stiffness. Particle swarm optimization is used to solve the mathematical model. The total mass of hydraulic press is decreased by 3.1% and its stiffness is adequate to ensure the forming precision when solving process is finished.

This study attempts to evaluate the influence of two advisable methods for compacting laboratory specimens of road base recycled mixes with foamed bitumen (MCAS) and bitumen emulsion (MCE). The obligatory regulations for this technology permit fabrication of the specimens using either an impact Marshall compactor or a static hydraulic press. The research showed that the compaction method influenced both the physical and mechanical properties of samples regardless of the type of bitumen binder. What is more, the structure of the material changed after the impact compaction process, which manifested in fact that many of the aggregate particles were crushed in its course. Better strength and resistance to moisture damage was observed in samples prepared in the hydraulic press. This was associated with lower void contents obtained in this compaction method.

Structure strength and deformation of the preliminary hydraulic press design have been calculated by the finite element method, in which two working conditions have been considered, i.e. the centre-point load condition and the eccentric load condition. To solve the surplus structure strength globally and the localized stress concentration, the combined methodology of mathematical programming algorithm and the FEM has been utilized to redesign the hydraulic press. The optimization result shows that the mass of the press has been reduced greatly and the localized stress concentration has been eliminated. Besides that, the strength and stiffness in the optimized structure still meet the performance requirements.

Abstract This paper focuses on evaluation of two laboratory-based methods of compaction of foamed bitumen and bitumen emulsion mixes: impact compaction with a Marshall hammer and static compaction using a hydraulic press. The investigated compaction methods were assessed in terms of their impact on the physical and mechanical properties of produced laboratory specimens, including: air void content, indirect tensile strength before and after conditioning in water (ITSdry, ITSwet), tensile strength ratio (TSR), and indirect tensile stiffness modulus (ITSM) at 0°C, 10°C and 20°C. The statically compacted specimens attained higher levels of mechanical properties and resistance to moisture damage, which was associated with a lower content of air voids in the specimens formed using a hydraulic press. Authors present a calculation showing that a mechanistic design based on the laboratory static press compaction method leads to overestimation of fatigue cracking resistance of the road base.

Abstract:
Purpose The high content of unsaturated fatty acids and the elevated presence of bioactive compounds make pistachio oil a healthy product with great commercial potential. One of the primary constraints for its production is the lack of information regarding oil extraction from an industrial perspective. The purpose of this paper is to ensure the success of pistachio oil production at a commercial scale, attention should be paid to the effect of the main extraction procedures on the characteristics of oil, the consumer acceptance of these oils and their production cost. Design/methodology/approach Comparison and evaluation of the physicochemical and sensory characteristics and production cost of oil extracted using two different production lines (hydraulic press and screw press) are considered here. Findings Slight differences were found in the physicochemical analysis, but significant differences were identified in the sensory analysis. Consumer judges preferred the oil extracted with the hydraulic press. According to production costs, the break-even value that makes screw press extraction sustainable is €70.4 per litre, while for the hydraulic press it is €91.0 per litre, mainly due to a lower extraction yield and the longer extraction time required. As production costs of both methods are high, pistachio oil quality should prevail, making the use of the hydraulic press more advisable. Originality/value Although significant research has been conducted to analyse pistachio oil composition and nutritional value, little attention has been paid to differences that appear regarding consumer preferences and production costs depending on the production method used. This paper provides a comprehensive approach to high-quality pistachio oil production from an industrial perspective.

Hydraulic stretch forming is a very important technology. Punch press has achieved multi-station automatic processing in the press area, which has greatly improved the efficiency. However, the main domestic stretching machine is single-stretching hydraulic machine at present. Compared with punch press, hydraulic stretching machines take less space and have better security, but they make less efficiency and have lower degree of automation. Hence, in order to take the advantage of hydraulic stretching machines and enhance the automation level, studies on multi-position automatic stretching machine occupies an important position. This paper proposes a design scheme of Six-station Automatic Hydraulic Stretching Machine (SAHSM) according to the practical production. The overall 3D structure of SAHSM is designed based on Solidworks to prove the theoretical possibility of the program. Then modal analysis is operated based on FEA of the key components of stretching machine module to improve reliability of the product and overcome the disadvantage of the traditional checking method, the first two-order modes are obtained to prove the impossibility of the resonance. SC-CO2 gave the higher content of alpha, gamma, and delta tocopherol comparing to the other extraction methods. Fatty acid showed that linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid, was dominant followed by oleic and palmitic acids. These fatty acids were higher amounts in oil extracted by SC-CO2, followed by cold-press comparing to solvent extraction. The maximum stability (20 h), higher TPC (22.18 mg GAE/g) and antioxidant activity (DPPH, 65.15) were observed in oil extracted by SC-CO2 followed by hydraulic-press, solvent extraction and finally screw-press. The results revealed that SC-CO2 method is more efficient in determination of total tocopherol, oxidative stability, TPC and radical scavenging activity than the other extraction methods. Cold press extraction methods gave higher oil yield than SC-CO2 and more economically than other methods.

Abstract:
The extraction process from leaves and twigs of gambier (Uncaria gambier Roxb)plant was conducted mechanically by using traditional hydraulic press, conventional screw press, and modified twin-screw press. The leaves and twigs of gambier plant was obtained from traditional farmer in Limapuluh Kota, West Sumatera, Indonesia. The water, ash and catechin contents of the gambier extracts were analyzed based on SNI 01-3391-2000 using spectrophotometry and thermogravimetry method. Antioxidant activity analysis of the extracts was also performed by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl (DPPH) method and compared tovitamin C as a standard antioxidant. The analysis results showed that the extracts contain no ash. Meanwhile, the catechin and water contents of the extracts were approximately 50 and 13% thus the extracts were classified as quality gambier 2. Other than that, analysis result of catechin and epicatechin contents of the extracts using HPLC and compared to the reference materials showed that catechins contents of the extracts using traditional hydraulic press, conventionalscrew press, and modified twin-screw press give catechin content in about 94.296-95.030%. However, epicatechin was detected in a trace amount. The antioxidant activity of the extracts were 2.5 times stronger than reference. The IC50 value of 4.37-4.52 µg/mL and was categorized as active antioxidant.

Abstract:
Cultivation of oil producing crops especially Jatropha and croton as source of vegetable oil for biodiesel production is being encouraged in rural areas. To recover oil from seed, manual press is the feasible method in rural areas where there is no electricity. Research was conducted to improve hydraulic oil press machine for rural application. Factorsaffecting oil recovery were found to be: moisture content of seeds, operating pressure, seed oil content, and the amount of seeds pressed per batch. Percentage oil recovery was improved by reducing diameter of press cylinder, hence increasing expression pressure, and either reducing amount of seed processed per batch or placing disk within the seeds to improve oil flow. The maximum vegetable oil recovered from Jatropha seeds at a pressure of 20.8 MPa after improvement was 57.5% of the total oil in seeds. There was no significant difference in terms of oil recovery between pressing whole seeds or milled seeds. Suggested further improvement includes: higher pressure than 20.8 MPa, reduced radial distance travelled by oil and replacement of hydraulic jack with a self retracting double acting hydraulic power cylinder to reduce batch cycle.

Abstract:
The sheet forming simulation of rectangular box was conducted by finite element method (FEM), the forming process experiment, further, was investigated, so as to understand the effect of the form of blank holder and the manner of blank holder force (BHF) on the complicated parts forming. In my study, a kind of low carbon steel was investigated, and its mechanical properties were obtained by simple tension tests. The outermost contour of the blank shape was determined by “one step method”. Furthermore, the finite element model was constructed by ANSYS parametric design language (APDL), which has characteristic of grid meshing by Belytschko-Tsay (BT) shell element, applying anisotropic constitutive equation of Barlat yield criterion, dealing contact by penalty function method and using adaptive mesh algorithm in the simulation process. Then the forming process simulation of rectangular box with segmented variable BHF was conducted. On the basis of analyzing the work principle and technical parameters of XP3CEF-100 hydraulic press, the rectangular box drawing system of segmented VBHF was established, which was made of hydraulic press, rectangular box drawing die of segmented blank holder, hydraulic part of blank holder and control part. Finally the low carbon steel forming tests were fulfilled by the rectangular box drawing system on the basis of the simulation result.

Abstract:
In the open-die forging process, the forging manipulator must cooperate closely with the forging press. Terrible working conditions of open-die forging have resulted in significant demand on the hydraulic control systems of the forging manipulator. This article analyzes the characteristics of major-motion hydraulic systems with the aim of proposing a novel hybrid serial–parallel heavy-duty forging manipulator. Kinematic and dynamic models of the major-motion mechanism are developed to investigate the control and comply with performance of hydraulic lifting, pitching, and buffering systems. Simulation shows that the three hydraulic systems are coupled in the position and posture control of the clamp. A separate posture control method based on the characteristic of the major-motion mechanism is designed for the hydraulic systems, and the position tracking performance of the hydraulic systems is studied in a stretching process of a plat-tool.

Abstract:
Purpose. Based on the analysis of the features of the hot piligrim pipe rolling process, develop a new and improved method for preparing liners on the mandrel by compressing their hind ends with specialized strikers of a horizontal hydraulic press. Metodology. The solution to the problem of determining the average specific application on the contact of the liner with the mandrel during compression of its rear end by specialized press dies using the method of slip lines. Findings. The article presents the results of a theoretical determination of the average specific pressure and the width of the contact surface area between the sleeve and the mandrel when the rear end of the sleeve is compressed by specialized strikers of a horizontal hydraulic press. The results obtained allow us to determine the conditions for preventing the liner from slipping from the mandrel as they move toward the rollers in the braking phase. Originality. The main factors affecting the adhesion of the liner to the mandrel were determined, and the values of average specific pressures on the contact of the metal with the mandrel were calculated during the reduction by the profile dies, as well as the width of the contact area and the required thickness of the dies. It has been established that the thickness of the strikers of a double-sided press can be assumed to be the same for all sizes of sleeves of the assortment TPA 5-12 ''. Practical value. The results of the theoretical studies can be used to modernize and reconstruct a section of the off-site charging of a pilger mill TPA 5-12 '' by installing horizontal hydraulic presses with double-die profile dies. This will increase the productivity of the mill by preventing the sleeve from sliding down the mandrel during roll-up to the rolls by creating the necessary adhesion forces between the sleeve and the mandrel. In addition, it will facilitate the conditions of the seed regime piligrim rolling, which will reduce machine time and increase productivity. Abstract:
A procedure to mechanically force water into the bale structures of old corrugated container (OCC) material was studied and evaluated in low-consistency pulping studies. Two mechanical methods were used in the study: (1) roll pressing of sheets and (2) press wetting of bales. Mechanical pressing was first used in simple roll tests to evaluate nip pressure as an enhanced effect on wetting. Repeated press wetting treatments were found to increase water penetration into the sheets and appeared to lower wet strengths. A simple laboratory-scale bale pressing device was constructed and the effect of different parameters in wetting method was studied. We found that when a bale was pressed under water, multiple pressings were needed to get efficient press wetting. Increased temperature was found to increase water penetration inside the porous structure of linerboard. We also discovered that there must be a delay between relaxation and pressing to allow water to travel within a board and to wet all surfaces. The wetting procedure also evaluated the weight of water inside the bale. Results showed that the amount of water could be used as an indicator of the pulping kinetics and energy consumption needed to disintegrate OCC. The enhanced method (i.e., hydraulic pressing) could provide efficient wetting on an industrial scale. With this method, a 30% savings in the energy consumption required in pulping unit operation is possible.

Abstract:
In order to satisfy the requirements of light weight and high stiffness for NC isothermal hydraulic press, a method of lightweight design for lower beam is proposed. Key geometric parameters of lower beam affecting mass and stiffness are extracted as design variables. Latin hypercube sampling is used to produce samples of design variables in order to explore relationship between stiffness, mass and design variables. Calculating data are processed with second order stepwise regression and regression equations for stiffness and mass are obtained. Mathematical model for lightweight design is established by regression equations. The goal of lightweight design is to decrease mass of lower beam while stiffness is set as constraint. When lightweight design is finished, the mass of lower beam is decreased by 11% and its stiffness remains unchanged.

Abstract:
The hydraulic systemic load spectrum of wring has been constructed by time with press and flow rate under deferent working condition on ship. The root mean square value of reel axial torque was calculated by weighted processing and was taken for the basis of the calculation on structure critical load. Based on the block of load spectrum, the virtual fatigue calculation showed the relation about the static strength and critical load block of load spectrum. Keeping the ratio of the static strength and critical load, the force analysis of wring reel aimed to the structure weight reduction by finite element analysis (FEA). The established wholly parametric and weight reduction model of wring structural part had been computed and meets the strength and stiffness requirement. The weight of this reel is reduced by 15.5 kg and lightweight effect is 8%. This method of weight reduction can be used to the reference on the design of hydraulic deck machinery of ship and hydraulic actuation construction machinery.
