Abstract:
The derivative forms of criminal liability — attempt and complicity — are the subject of a vast literature, yet there has not been a systematic, comprehensive examination of the preparatory offences in legislation, case law, or even in scholarly writings. One can hardly even find a satisfactory definition of such offences. Therefore, our first task will be an attempt to provide one, because absent a definition, we will not be able to proceed toward a solution to problems that are of no insignificant practical importance.First among these problems is the question of the appropriate legislative policy to be followed in deciding when and in what areas to create preparatory offences. Second comes the question of whether it is appropriate to “derive” offences of attempt and complicity from preparatory offences, or, in other words, is it possible to speak of attempting a preparatory offence or being an accomplice to it. Third, should we make recourse to the principles applicable to criminal attempt in construing preparatory offences?

Abstract:
Background: No study exists on preparatory time—from patient’s entrance into the operating room to skin incision—and its role in hand surgery operating room inefficiency. The purpose of this study was to investigate the length and variability of preparatory time and assess the relationship between several variables and preparatory time. Methods: Consecutive upper extremity cases performed for a period of 1 month by hand surgeons were reviewed at 3 surgical sites. Preparatory time was compared across locations. Cases at one location were further analyzed to assess the relationship between preparatory time and several variables. Both traditional statistical methods and Shewhart control charts, a quality control tool, were used for data analysis. Results: A total of 288 cases were performed. The mean preparatory times at the 3 sites were 25.1, 25.7, and 20.7 minutes, respectivley. Aggregated preparatory time averaged 24.4 (range 7-61) minutes, was 75% the length of the surgical time, and accounted for 34% of total operating room time. Control charts confirmed substantial variability at all locations, signifying a poorly defined process. At a single site, where 189 cases were performed by 14 different surgeons, there was no difference in preparatory time by case type, American Society of Anesthesiologists status, or case start time. Preparatory time varied by surgeon and anesthesia type. Conclusions: Preparatory time was found to be a source of inefficiency, independent of the surgical site. Control charts reinforced large variations, signifying a poorly designed process. Surgeon seemingly plays an important, albeit likely indirect, role. Efforts to improve operating room workflow should include preparatory time.

Abstract:
The objectives of the study were to evaluate the relationship between depression, preparatory grief, and loss of dignity in patients with advanced cancer and whether depression has a mediator and/or a mediator role between preparatory grief and dignity. The participants were 120 patients with advanced cancer who completed the Greek version of the Patient Dignity Inventory, the Greek Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Preparatory Grief in Advanced Cancer Patients questionnaire. Depression was highly correlated with preparatory grief and loss of dignity. Additionally, strong relationship was found between preparatory grief and loss of dignity. Mediation analyses revealed that preparatory grief influenced loss of dignity as well as indirectly by its effect on depression. However, there was not any affect of depression as moderator. The effect of depression on preparatory grief in patients with advanced cancer and dignity emphasizing the need for further research to confirm the current relationship as well as the need for treatment of depression.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on preparatory actions in training and competitive process. The article analyzes, summarizes and characterizes preparatory actions in terms of their implementation as the part of an exercise and sport activity in general. For the first time we have proposed classification of preparatory actions as a separate element of training process. The structure of this classification appear as the hierarchy of its constituent elements and their description based on the theory, methodology and practice of their application in sport activities. We have considered setup and preparation of sport equipment before competition exercises, visualization of a sport task, and its simulation without special tools and equipment to be separate actions of an athlete for the first time. Research methods and organization of research. We have used the following methods in our study: analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature, pedagogical observation, testing, generalization of information, and formalization of the data for mathematical statistics. Research results and discussion. The main part of the article called “Study of the forms and structure of preparatory actions. Characteristics of preparatory actions” contains description of the research, substantiated analysis, generalization and identification of the main structural elements in a sport exercise. Conclusion. The paper contains “Classification of preparatory actions of an athlete” in a convenient tabular form. The chapter “Preparatory actions in a sport training system” contains the analysis of classification of preparatory actions of an athlete presented in the Table. It describes the signs of preparatory actions and their characteristics in a sport training system. Practical significance of this study is to form the basis of classification of preparatory actions as the part of a sport exercise. The study introduces characteristics of such actions, and it describes their duality in the conceptual apparatus of scientific and methodological research. It enables coaches, athletes and specialists in the field of sport activities to apply new methodological techniques in the training process and to plan it in the annual cycle due to a new attitude to both the exercise itself and its constituent elements.

Abstract:
According to the sequential stage model, the selection and the execution of a motor response are two distinct independent processes. Here, we propose a new adaptive paradigm for identifying the individual duration of the response preparatory period based on the motor reaction time (RT) data. The results are compared using the paradigm with constant values of the preparatory period. Two groups of participants performed on either an easy (Group 1) or a hard (Group 2) response selection task with two types of stimuli based on the preparatory period parameters: (1) stimuli with a constant preparatory period duration of 0 or 1200 ms and (2) stimuli with adaptive preparatory period durations. Our analysis showed an increase in the duration of the response selection process as a function of increasing task complexity when using both paradigms with constant and adaptive values of the preparatory period duration. We conclude that the adaptive paradigm proposed in the current paper has several important advantages over the constant paradigm in terms of measuring the response accuracy while being equally efficiently in capturing other critical response parameters.

Abstract:
Humans have an automatic tendency to imitate others. Previous studies on how we control these tendencies have focused on reactive mechanisms, where inhibition of imitation is implemented after seeing an action. This work suggests that reactive control of imitation draws on at least partially specialized mechanisms. Here, we examine preparatory imitation control, where advance information allows control processes to be employed before an action is observed. Drawing on dual route models from the spatial compatibility literature, we compare control processes using biological and non-biological stimuli to determine whether preparatory imitation control recruits specialized neural systems that are similar to those observed in reactive imitation control. Results indicate that preparatory control involves anterior prefrontal, dorsolateral prefrontal, posterior parietal and early visual cortices regardless of whether automatic responses are evoked by biological (imitative) or non-biological stimuli. These results indicate both that preparatory control of imitation uses general mechanisms, and that preparatory control of imitation draws on different neural systems from reactive imitation control. Based on the regions involved, we hypothesize that preparatory control is implemented through top-down attentional biasing of visual processing.

Abstract:
Our criminal law has been developing in the direction of democratization and respect of the minimum legal standards as a condition for an objective assessment of criminal offenses and the protection of human rights and the law does, more or less, like all social phenomena resist the rapid and radical change. The investigation, as part of criminal proceedings is undoubtedly the most important and also the most delicate part of the proceedings. The issue of different organization of the concept of the investigation raises many doubts, misunderstandings and difficulties. The last reform in our country did not bring significant changes for the organization of the preparatory stage of criminal proceedings, and this issue is not sufficiently addressed nor in the literature. In fact, there are different models of investigation. The question is whether the better results could be gained in some of the other models for organizing the investigation which currently exist in the world. The author addresses the following issues: analysis of the models of preparatory stages of criminal proceedings - a historical review, the center of the proceedings, the abolition of judicial investigation, the historical development of the model of investigation in Serbia.

Abstract:
The first preparatory institution was founded in 1635 to prepare elite men for public service, a role in the church, or admission to Harvard (Boyer, 1983). Nearly 400 years later, the objective of such institutions is no longer Harvard, but often an avenue for potential student-athletes (PSAs) to participate in collegiate sport (Thamel, 2007). The NCAA does not define nor regulate postgraduate preparatory institutions; however, Curran (2014) describes a preparatory institution (commonly referred to as prep schools) as a postgraduate institute that provides PSAs another year at a secondary institution prior to making the transition to college. Framed by Mincer’s (1958) model of Basic Human Capital, the purpose of this study is to examine the experiences of those attending or associated with one specific preparatory institution (X Academy). The first research question which explores prospective student-athletes choices to attend a preparatory institution revealed three final themes: (1) eligibility concerns, (2) athletic exposure and development, and (3) academic improvement. The second research question explores the experiences of those attending a preparatory institution also revealed three final themes: (1) focus and preparation, (2) melting pot, and (3) survival.

Abstract:
Relevance. The health of teenagers should be assessed not only by their morphometric data, but also by the functional state of the main organs and systems that provide adaptive reserve potential. Objective. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the functional capabilities of the cardiovascular system of teenagers according to biomechanical indexes of blood circulation. Methods and materials. 272 teenagers aged 13–14 (176 boys and 96 girls) participated in the study. Among the boys, there are 104 pupils of the basic medical group of physical education and 72 of the preparatory group (2nd health group). There were 48 primary and 48 preparatory group pupils among the girls. The results of Kubicek rheography and rheovasography were used to study the biomechanical parameters of the cardiovascular system. They were evaluated using the methods of mathematical statistics (the MedStat program (Ye. Lyakh, 2006)). Results. There were no any statistically significant differences between most of the rheovasographic parameters of the students of the preparatory and basic medical groups of physical education. Instead, there are certain distinctive features of the peripheral blood flow of pupils of the preparatory group of physical education (with reduced functional capabilities). Thus, the , indexes of the rapid filling timing in the pupils of the preparatory group of physical education are lower than in the main group. In the boys of the preparatory group of physical education on both hands and in the girls of this group on the left hand, the blood flow time for the forearms is slightly increased. Greater deviations from the norm for the amplitude of rheograms were found in pupils of the preparatory group of physical education. The number of pupils with asymmetric blood supply to the forearms in the preparatory group of physical education is more than in the main group. A decrease in the blood supply of the vessels of the forearms is registered more often in teenagers who are assigned to the preparatory group of physical education. In the boys of the preparatory group of physical education, the blood vessels of the shins are worse. Conclusions. Some distinctive features for the state of peripheral blood flow of teenagers in the preparatory group of physical education were revealed. Thus, the indexes of the rapid filling timing, the amplitude of the rheograms were lower, and the time of propagation of the pulse wave was higher than normal. Asymmetry and decreased blood flow in the vessels of the upper and lower extremities were noted in most teenagers with impaired

Otten, Mark R. M. "Effectiveness of Full (Comprehensive) Preparatory Units for College Study Abroad Field Trips." Journal of Education and Learning 7, no. 4 (May 15, 2018): 40. http://dx.doi.org/10.5539/jel.v7n4p40.

Full text
Abstract:
Research shows that students are likely to experience novelty (unfamiliarity) at field trip locations, resulting in extended, unproductive disorientation and inhibition of learning. Carefully-planned preparatory units, delivered prior to the field trip experience, have been shown to mitigate the negative effects of novelty. Anonymous online surveys and written responses to critical thinking questions were used to assess the effect of full (comprehensive) pre-field trip preparatory units on measures potentially influenced by novelty during a 25-day college study abroad program. Survey responses indicate that full preparatory units did not significantly affect student perception of readiness or location familiarity. While few statistically-significant differences were detected, data suggests that full preparatory units probably enhanced student satisfaction with the field trip experience and fostered better performance on critical thinking assessments. These findings support the conclusion that full preparatory units were, on the whole, more beneficial to learning during study abroad field trips than were minimal preparatory units. Findings also suggest that college students may not suffer the negative effects of novelty as intensely as younger students and that the physical size and complexity of the field trip location may reduce student confidence in navigating the location and slow student completion of on-location tasks.

Abstract:
The article investigates the peculiarities of training athletes who specialize in ketlebell long cycle, in the preparatory period (special training stage) at the stage of specialized basic training. A survey of ketlebell lifting coaches of Ukraine (n=28) was conducted in order to determine the ratio of means of training athletes at this stage. Research methods: theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature, documentary method (study of competition protocols, training plans and diaries), questionnaires, modeling. It was found that the stage of specialized basic training involves the creation of a solid foundation for special training. The main task of this stage is to ensure perfect mastery of rational sports equipment, its individualization. Also to the required level should be developed those physical and volitional qualities that contribute to the improvement and implementation of technical skills in long cycle. For athletes who specialize in long cycle, the stage of specialized basic training covers the age of 17-19 years. According to the results of the coaches' questionnaire, the ratio of means of training athletes in the preparatory period (special preparatory stage) at the stage of specialized basic training was determined: general preparatory exercises – 17.1%, auxiliary – 9.7%, special preparatory – 19.9%, competitive – 53.3%. Among them, exercises with ketlebells accounted for 51.3%, exercises with weights (mostly with a barbell) – 22.6%, running exercises – 20.8%, exercises with own weight – 5.3%. The model of training sessions (shock microcycle) for athletes who specialize in long cycle in the preparatory period (special preparatory stage) at the stage of specialized basic training is substantiated and developed.
