Abstract:
This diploma thesis focuses on difficulties of translating an expressive elliptical utterance and tests the validity of several partial hypotheses on the basis of several Russian contemporary fiction writings and their translations into the Czech language. As the main hypothesis we took the idea of classifiability of expressive syntactic constructions used in spoken language (first of all, ellipsis) into the system applicable in translation from Russian into Czech. In chapter Theoretical aspects of spoken language we describe the current state of research in the field of expressive syntax of spoken language and create our own classification of expressive syntactic constructions in Russian on predicativity / nonpredicativity basis. We also study communicational and pragmatic aspects of expressive syntactic forms and characterize them in terms of translation theory of equivalence and adequacy. In the empirical part of our research we add examples from fiction writing to our classification and specify it more thoroughly, mainly with regards of non-predicative constructions. The resulting syntactic models are evaluated on the basis of expressivity vehicle, vehicle of communicational meaning and type of utterance (informative, or phatic). We also judge the adequacy of translation solutions at the communicative...

Abstract:
The master thesis treats about the multi awarded roman Le dernier des nôtres. This roman is the second written by the French novelist and journalist Adélaïde de Clermont-Tonnerre. The purpose of this thesis is the translation of some chapters of this roman into Czech language. On the following pages, we will focus on analyzing and professionally comment our way of translating. We will study the different elements composing the translation and the cultural specificities we had to consider while translating. Abstract:
(in English) The present thesis titled "Untranslatable from Sorokin", is applying both theoretical and empirical approach. Particular attention is paid especially to translations from Russian to Czech language. This thesis focuses on common translation problems while working with books of Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin. The introduction to the theoretical part of the present study is devoted to general theoretical framework of translatological analysis of specific translation problems. In next step the most common difficulties are defined and systemized in several groups like author's neologism, foreign language lexicon, etc.. Empirical part of this thesis focuses on solving of particular translation problems and its analysis. These problems are also explained using examples from works of Vladimir Sorokin. The main goal of the thesis is partly to simplify understanding of Sorokin's books, but mainly to ease the work for translators. Various ways of dealing with difficultly translatable or completely untranslatable parts of Sorokin's books can then also help translators who translate another works from different authors.
