Abstract:
AbstractDifferential rotation and meridional flow are key ingredients in flux transport dynamo models of the solar activity cycle. As the subsurface flow pattern is not sufficiently constrained by observations, it is a major source of uncertainty in solar and stellar dynamo models. We discuss the current mean field theory of stellar differential rotation and meridional flows and its predicitons for the Sun and stars on the lower main sequence.

Abstract:
Previous work by this group on an average lubrication equation for grain flow with roughness effects is extended to include grain-grain collision elasticity ranging from perfectly elastic to perfectly inelastic. The average lubrication equation is based on Haff’s grain flow theory, with flow factors from Patir and Cheng and Tripp’s use of perturbation. The derived flow factors are obtained as functions of rough surface characteristics, grain size, and collision pattern. As collision energy loss approaches zero, the inelastic results approach those for perfectly elastic grain collision. The mathematical formulas for flow factors, grain/grain collision elasticity, grain size, and roughness are presented and discussed. Predicitons for the elastic and inelastic cases are graphically demonstrated and compared. The derived average lubrication equation for grain flow shows good agreement with the theoretical and experimental data of Yu, Craig, and Tichy [J. Rheol., 38(4), 921 (1994)].

Abstract:
Forming limits of thin sheets are investigated using a yield criterion recently proposed by Hill (1993). This criterion utilizes five independent material parameters, which can be determined from uniaxial and balanced biaxial experiments, to describe a wide range of material properties of sheet metals, including the anomalous behavior of aluminum. In the present work, a bifurcation analysis is pursued to predict the onset of localized necking in strain rate insensitive sheet materials. A detailed parametric study is then conducted to evaluate the effect of various material parameters on the positive minor strain side of the forming limit diagram. It is observed that limit strains are strongly dependent on the shape of the yield locus. Forming limits predicted using Hill’s 1993 yield criterion are compared with those predicted using Hill’s 1948 and 1979 criteria. Results from the bifurcation analysis are also compared with experimental observations, as well as the limit strain predicitons based on the M-K analysis.

Abstract:
Most theoretical and computational studies of turbulence in Navier—Stokes fluids and/or guiding-centre plasmas have been carried out in the presence of spatially periodic boundary conditions. In view of the frequently reproduced result that two-dimensional and/or MHD decaying turbulence leads to structures comparable in length scale to a box dimension, it is natural to ask if periodic boundary conditions are an adequate representation of any physical situation. Here, we study, computationally, the decay of two-dimensional turbulence in a Navier—Stokes fluid or guiding-centre plasma in the presence of circular no-slip rigid walls. The method is wholly spectral, and relies on a Galerkin approximation by a set of functions that obey two boundary conditions at the wall radius (analogues of the Chandrasekhar— Reid functions). It is possible to explore Reynolds numbers up to the order of 1250, based on an RMS velocity and a box radius. It is found that decaying turbulence is altered significantly by the no-slip boundaries. First, strong boundary layers serve as sources of vorticity and enstrophy and enhance the early-time energy decay rate, for a given Reynolds number, well above the periodic boundary condition values. More importantly, angular momentum turns out to be an even more slowly decaying ideal invariant than energy, and to a considerable extent governs the dynamics of the decay. Angular momentum must be taken into account, for example, in order to achieve quantitative agreeement with the predicition of maximum entropy, or ‘most probable’, states. These are predicitions of conditions that are established after several eddy turnover times but before the energy has decayed away. Angular momentum will cascade to lower azimuthal mode numbers, even if absent there initially, and the angular momentum modal spectrum is eventually dominated by the lowest mode available. When no initial angular momentum is present, no behaviour that suggests the likelihood of inverse cascades is observed.

Abstract:
The shape of hybrid monohull at the bow is quite complex and the viscosity force is the main component of the damping force in the drainage area of the bow when the ship moves in waves so that the result of the motion predicition by the traditional potential flow method is very different from the result of experiments. This paper tries to use new numerical compute method considering the effect of the viscosity to improve the precision of the sea keeping predicition. Based on the Reynolds Averaged N-S Equations (RANS) method, the paper takes a hrbrid monohull to compute the hydrodynamic coefficients. According to the result of model test, the prediction of the hybrid monohull’s the longitudinal motion in regular waves at speed of 18kn also indicates that RANS method can reflect viscid influence reducing the motion of hybrid monohull in waves.

Abstract:
The prediction system of gold demands in China is faced with issues such as uncertain factors, limited historical data, and nonlinearity. In order to have a more accurate prediction of gold demands, a prediction method based on the integration of grey prediction and Gaussian process regression is proposed. Specifically, equal weights are assigned to each model and a grey prediction is adopted to reflect the uncertain and changing relationship of gold demands, with Gaussian process regression indicating the nonlinear impacts of factors on gold demands. Moreover, modified particle swarm optimization plays a role in optimizing the hyper-parameters of Gaussian process regression, which solves the issue that conjugate gradient algorithms depend on initial value setting and are susceptible to be confined by locally optimal solutions. According to the study, the proposal of the paper is superior to a separate Gaussian process regression or grey prediction in terms of better predicting gold demands.

Abstract. This paper is dedicated to the load-deflection analysis of RC beams strengthened with external CFRP sheets. A theoretical nonlinear model, based on slip and bond stresses, is described and adopted for the deformability predicition of beams. The model allows considering the bond-slip relationships both between concrete and steel bar and between concrete and CFRP. Comparisons between the simulated midspan deflection and that of experiment indicate that the proposed nonlinear model is able to predict the deformability behavior of RC beams strengthened with external CFRP sheets.

The stock market is a stochastic, dynamic environment and is in constant evolution, and its prediction represents a big challenge. Many studies presented in the state of the art are facing this challenge, by making use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) as a tool to make such prediction. In this paper a comparative study is made with different methods in order to predict the Brazilian stock market through the Bovespa Index. An ANN was developed and its performance was compared against a hybrid model, in which a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed as an alternative to improve the performance of this ANN. The results obtained were an average accuracy of 55.04% and 55.73% respectively, demonstrating that algorithms such as a GA have the capability of improving the performance of ANN for the stock market prediciton.

Abstract:
The blasting method is one of the best hard rock excavation methods in mining activities. This method has negative impacts, one of which is the vibrations generated by the residual energy of the explosion. This impact will affect the environment around the blasting area, both slope stability, tunnels, infrastructure, and human settlements if it is close to the blasting site. Therefore, it needs initial planning and prediction to anticipate the blasting vibration that occurs. In general, the blast vibration can be predicted using the scale distance method which uses two parameters, namely the maximum amount of explosive material per time delay and the distance of measurement from the location of the explosion. This method has been widely researched to produce several empirical equations from each explosion location studied. However, as technology develops, several studies have tried to use artificial intelligence technology, one of which is the artificial neural network algorithm as a new approach for predicting detonation vibrations. In this method, the development of the parameters used in predicting the weighting of the most influential parameters from the formation of detonation vibrations can be carried out. This study will review several studies related to the use of artificial neural networks in predicting blasting vibrations in the studies that have been carried out and also compare with prediction methods using several empirical equations.

Companies that are involved in turbine repair service and maintenance often suffered from delayed work, which affected customer satisfaction and trust. Six-Sigma method is used to solve the delay issue. According to the research result, it is found that the capability of servicing process of a turbine in this company is 1.346s with DPMO of 560810.8. This condition is categorised as low, below the industry average in Indonesia of 2s with DPMO of 308.538. The main cause of the delay is with the unreliable work-hour prediciton, unreliability and unavailability of materials from suppliers, failure of the machines, and flawed scheduling. It is suggested to improve the service by work measurment to help predict the needs for repair schedule, rectifying the supply and maintenance system, as well as scheduling system according to the demands of repair service, repair time prediction, and the repair schedule of the machine itself

Abstract In order to realize the nondestructive testing (NDT) of the internal leakage fault of hydraulic spool valves, the internal leakage rate must be predicted by AE (acoustic emission) technology. An AE experimental platform of internal leakage of hydraulic spool valves is built to study the characteristics of AE signals of internal leakage and the relationship between AE signals and leakage rates. The research results show the AE signals present a wideband characteristic. The main frequencies are concentrated in 30~50 kHz and the peak frequency is around 40 kHz. When the leakage rate is large, there are significant signal characteristics appearing in the high frequency band of 75~100 kHz. The exponent of the root mean square(RMS) of AE signals is positively correlated with the exponent of the leakage rate only if the leakage rate is greater than 2~3 mL/min. This find could be used to predict the internal leakage rate of hydraulic spool valves.

Abstract:
E-Learning has become an essential teaching approach during the COVID-19 pandemic. All over the world, various internet-based learning management systems (Google classroom, Moodle, etc.) were adopted to convey knowledge and enhance learning outcomes. However, measuring learning outcomes and knowledge acquisition in E-Learning environment is a controversial issue. To this end, this paper aims to predict learning outcomes using data mining techniques. Student data are collected and analyzed to construct the prediction model. The collected data covered students from various undergraduate studies. Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining is used as a research model. The obtained result shows the significant of some attributes in predicting learning outcomes. Four correlation-based attributes selection schemas are applied. The selected attributes are examined using four data mining algorithms: random forest, k-nearest neighbors, Decision Tree, and neural network. The overall performance of the constructed mining models is evaluated using various performance measures: Accuracy, Precision, Recall and F1-score are calculated. Overall, an 86% accuracy is secured.

Abstract:
Stirling cryocoolers are widely used to refrigerate significant facilities in military and aerospace applications. However, under the influences of high-frequency piston motion and thermal environment deterioration, the refrigerating performance of Stirling cryocoolers will worsen inevitably, thus affecting the successful accomplishment of space mission. In this article, a methodology on assessing the performance of space Stirling cryocoolers is proposed, which involves the analysis of the failure mechanism, health indicator construction and remaining useful life prediction of the cryocooler. The potential factors affecting the refrigerating performance are discussed first. In view of these, three health indicators representing the degradation process of cryocoolers are constructed and then a multi-indicator method based on particle filter is proposed for remaining useful life prediction. Finally, the proposed method is validated by a Stirling cryocooler from one retired aircraft, and the results show that the constructed health indicators and remaining useful life prediciton approaches are effective for performance assessment of Stirling cryocooler.

Marsh, Herbert W., and Robert J. Sonstroem. "Importance Ratings and Specific Components of Physical Self-Concept: Relevance to Predicting Global Components of Self-Concept and Exercise." Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology 17, no. 1 (March 1995): 84–104. http://dx.doi.org/10.1123/jsep.17.1.84.

Abstract:
Fox (1990) proposed a personalized hierarchical model of physical self-concept that integrated self-concept and perceived importance ratings, and he developed instruments to measure these constructs. Alternative approaches based on his instruments are evaluated with data from Sonstroem, Harlow, and Josephs’ (1994) study of 216 adult female aerobic dancers and their exercise activity. Consistent with previous research, there was little support for importance weighted-average or importance discrepancy models in the prediciton of self-esteem, general physical self-concept, or exercise behavior. However, condition self-concept was more positively related to exercise than other components of physical self-concept, and importance ratings of specific components of physical self-concept were positively related to exercise. These results support the construct validity of multidimensional physical self-concept responses, the value of specific domains of self-concept most relevant to a particular application rather than global measures of self, and the usefulness of importance ratings for predicting exercise activity.

Abstract:
Objective: This study aims to compare the effects of age at first sexual intercourse (sexarche) and menarche-sexarche interval in predicting the incidence of human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced lesions. Material & Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of 698 women with normal or HPV-induced lesions, diagnosed cytologically or histologically. Results: After multivariate analysis, the probability of developing HPV-induced lesions increased by 63% for those with menarche-sexarche interval of 3 years or less. Additionally, smoking, parity, and age were relevant in prediciting the risk. Conclusion: Sexarche within the first 3 years from menarche was associated with the occurrence of HPV-induced lesions as an independent factor, unlike sexarche, indicating that menarche-sexarche interval of less than 3 years may be an important parameter for the definition of early sexual intercourse.

Abstract:
Due to the intermittence and randomness of the renewable energy, hybrid energy storage system is widely adopted to suppress the power fluctuation. Power distribution is crucial for the robust and efficient operation of hybrid energy system. This paper proposes an innovative framework for hybrid energy storage system power distribution combining main circuit topology, modulation method and power distribution strategy. Firstly, hybrid modulation strategy to realize power distribution in a single-phase inverter is introduced. Then, power load prediction and low frequency filter are utilized to generate references for power distribution. Finally, the simulation model is established to test the framework and the result demonstrates the superiority of the proposed framework. The mean absolute percent error of the proposed SSA-LSTM mdoel is 0.0955 and the prediciton error by 40% compared with conventional LSTM model. Additionally, the energy management framework can adjust the port power distribution ratio flexibily to significantly suppress the power fluctuation of the grid and the operation cost of the hybrid energy storage system by reducing the charge and discharge cycle of the battery.
