Abstract:
AC power adapters for battery-operated systems, such as smartphones and notebook computers, not only supply run-time power to operate the devices but also charge the built-in batteries. The capacity of the adapter is optimized for the average power demand rather than the maximum power demand to reduce the size and weight of the adapter. Such a reduced capacity adapter may cause the battery to age even when the device is operated with the power adapter while under higher power demand, which is different from the expectation of most users. A recent study proposed a supercapacitor assist architecture to reduce the battery aging when the battery is powered by the adapter. However, the previous work only shows the potential of the architecture. In this work, we propose a design methodology to find the optimal setup for the supercapacitor hybrid architecture considering supercapacitor array structure and power conversion efficiency. The results show that a supercapacitor having 17.5 mF capacity and 20 V withstand voltage is enough to supply the deficient energy of a reduced capacity power adapter.

Abstract In this paper the developed laser scaling adapter is presented. The scaling adapter is equipped with a twin laser unit where the two parallel laser beams are projected onto any target giving an exact indication of scale. The body of the laser scaling adapter is made of Teflon, the density of which is approximately two times the water density. The development involved multiple challenges - numerical hydrodynamic calculations for choosing an appropriate shape which would reduce the effects of turbulence, an accurate sealing of the power supply and the laser diodes, and others. The precision is estimated by the partial derivation method. Both experimental and theoretical data conclude the overall precision error to be in the 1% margin. This paper presents the development steps of such an underwater laser scaling adapter for a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).

In this paper, a hybrid convergence method is used to evaluate the development of PQ in a distribution device. For PQ analysis, a D-STATCOM-based Modular Multilevel Converter device is being analyzed. This proposed hybrid adapter is named as the Adaptive Recurrent Neural Network with a Crow Search Optimization Algorithm (ARNN-CSOA), which is used for Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) optimization based on the device D-STATCOM. The proposed D-STATCOM advanced method will now go by providing a fast watt controller with invisible power to compensate for loads, modern day imbalances, flicker power reductions and voltage regulation. The proposed hybrid control strategy is to maximize the power of participation through the RNN approach. By using the proposed hybrid adapter method, the PI controller barriers are identified in advance to deliver appropriate MMC based DSTATCOM action. The proposed process learns all types of switches for mechanical problems such as DC power, real and active power. Based on the proposed procedure, the appropriate MM-based D-STATCOM cones are produced and obtain the correct results. Abstract:
In the process of charging laptop's battery, there is no automatic settings are disconnected and connecting the laptop charger voltage according to the needs and desires of the user. In addition, the apathetic nature of the laptop users often also lead to battery charging voltage overload on the laptop battery. These conditions will have an impact on the voltage of the battery leakage which will eventually be more easily damaged. In addition, the electrical energy will continue to flow from adaptor to the laptop and the resulting dissipation of electrical energy within a certain period. From some of these problems, the authors had the idea to make the tool as a form of solution that charging automatic controller. The tool is designed to regulate battery-charging time through additional software on the laptop. The method used was an experimental method. Results of this research have shown that these tools not only cut off the voltage from the adapter to the laptop, but also classes decide the flow voltage of 220V AC power adapter to the charger. Therefore, this tool provides two benefits at once, ie maintain the lifetime of the battery and also save electrical energy use.

Abstract:
Objective: The goal of this work was to create implantable stimulator systems that could be used in animal experiments on laryngeal paralysis, including “closed-loop” stimulation of impaired muscles triggered by electromyographic (EMG) potentials from healthy muscles. Study Design: Iterative device design and testing. Methods: A series of microcontroller-based implantable devices were built that incorporated increasingly sophisticated features for stimulation, EMG recording, and communication across the skin. Specific engineering challenges included minimizing power consumption, achieving charge-balanced and relatively high stimulation capacity, implementing noninvasive communication across the skin, providing real-time processing of EMG signals, and mitigating effects of shock artifacts. Bench testing was used to verify performance. Results: Two prototypes are described in detail. Each system is based on an “implant” and an external “communication adapter” that interfaces both with the implant and with external computers for adjustments and monitoring. The first version described is inductively powered and referred to as the “inductive laryngeal stimulator.” It uses inductive coupling for both power and communication and performs EMG processing in the communication adapter module. The second version, a “battery-powered laryngeal stimulator,” consists of an autonomous battery-powered implant with onboard EMG processing and artifact control; it communicates by infrared light with the external communication adapter for setup and monitoring. Conclusions: The devices met design and performance specifications and have proved useful in the animal experiments that are described in Part 2 of this series. Detailed descriptions of the circuits and their firmware are made available in the Appendix. Level of Evidence: NA

Abstract:
This research work explains the practical realization of hybrid solar wind-based standalone power system with maximum power point tracker (MPPT) to produce electrical power in rural places (residential applications). The wind inspired Ant Colony Optimization (ACO)-based MPPT algorithm is employed for the purpose of fast and accurate tracking power from wind energy system. Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) inverter controlling strategy is adopted in this presented work compared to classical proportional-integral (PI) control. Moreover, single Cuk converter is operated as impedance power adapter to execute MPPT functioning. Here, ACO-based MPPT has been implemented with no voltage and current extra circuit requirement compared to existing evolutionary algorithms single cuk converter is employed to improve conversion efficiency of converter by maximizing power stages. DC-link voltage can be regulated by placing Cuk converter Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) linked rectifier and inverter. The proposed MPPT method is responsible for rapid battery charging and gives power dispersion of battery for hybrid PV-Wind system. ACO-based MPPT provides seven times faster convergence compared to the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for achievement of maximum power point (MPP) and tracking efficiency. Satisfactory practical results have been realized using the dSPACE (DS1104) platform that justify the superiority of proposed algorithms designed under various operating situations.

If electric vehicles have to be truly sustainable, it is essential to charge them from sustainable sources of electricity, such as solar or wind energy. In this paper, the design of solar powered e-bike charging station that provides AC, DC and wireless charging of e-bikes is investigated. The charging station has integrated battery storage that enables for both grid-connected and off-grid operation. The DC charging uses the DC power from the photovoltaic panels directly for charging the e-bike battery without the use of an AC charging adapter. For the wireless charging, the e-bike can be charged through inductive power transfer via the bike kickstand (receiver) and a specially designed tile (transmitter) at the charging station, which provides maximum convenience to the user.

Three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D IC) based on TSV (Through Silicon Via) technology is the latest packaging technology with the smallest size and quality. As a result, it can effectively reduce parasitic effects, improve work efficiency, reduce the power consumption of the chip, and so on. TSV-based silicon interposers have been applied in the ground environment. In order to meet the miniaturization, high performance and low-cost requirements of aerospace equipment, the adapter substrate is a better choice. However, the transfer substrate, as an important part of 3D integrated circuits, may accumulate charge due to heavy ion irradiation and further reduce the performance of the entire chip package in harsh space radiation environment or cause it to fail completely. Little research has been carried out until now. This article summarizes the research methods and conclusions of the research on silicon interposers and TSV technology in recent years, as well as the influence of high-energy heavy ions on semiconductor devices. Based on this, a series of research methods to study the effect of high-energy heavy ions on TSV and silicon adapter plates is proposed.

Abstract:
The Subject-Actuated Viewer and Data Logger (SAVDL) is a compact apparatus capable of remotely recording the viewing time of a display, acquiring the data and synchronizing the operation with a notebook personal computer. In the implementation described in this proposal, the system is configured to measure the time a subject pilot views an instrument approach procedure chart while piloting an aircraft. The SAVDL is composed of an approach chart holder, “push to see” switch, power adapter, and notebook PC. The approach chart holder is an aluminum assembly similar to a picture frame that is sized to hold an approach chart. The holder is basically two parallel rectangular aluminum plates separated by a spacer. The plate on the viewing side has a rectangular cut-out that holds a protective clear plastic sheet and a thin LCD substrate. A slot between the plates and behind the LCD substrate provides for the insertion of the approach chart to be used. Thus the subject pilot must look through the transparent plastic sheet and the LCD substrate to view the approach chart in the holder. A cable from the power adapter applies a voltage to the LCD substrate. When this voltage is not present, the LCD substrate scatters light and the approach chart in the holder cannot be read by the subject pilot. When this voltage is present, the LCD substrate is transparent and the approach chart in the holder can be read by the subject pilot. The subject pilot applies this voltage by pressing a “push-to-see switch”, which is mounted on the control yoke. The notebook PC provides the experimenter's interface, stores the experiment's database, performs the timing function, and generates the experimental results database.

Abstract – We demonstrate a Q-switched Erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) using a newly developed Graphene Oxide (GO) based saturable absorber (SA). The SA was fabricated by embedding a GO material, which was obtained through chemical oxidation of graphite into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film. A small piece of the film was sandwiched between two fiber ferrules via a fiber adapter and incorporated in an EDFL cavity for generating a stable Q-switching pulse train. The EDFL operates at 1560.5 nm with a pump power threshold of 16.88 mW while a pulse repetition rate was tunable from 32.45 to 81.7 kHz, and the smallest pulse-width of 5.67 μs. The Q-switching pulse shows no spectral modulation with a peak-to-pedestal ratio of 61.76 dB indicating the high stability of the laser. These results show that the GO has a great potential to be used for pulsed laser applications.Key words: graphene oxide, passive saturable absorber, Q-switching, EDFL, GO

Abstract:
In the recent development of internal combustion engine, considerable increase in speed and power has been accomplished. This achievement, however, brought up various problems due to the excessive temperature of engine parts, which becomes a crucial factor in engine durability. In the present paper, temperature measurement of a marine engine was investigated experimentally. The adapter is made to pull out a thermocouple through the safety valve hole of the engine. The thermocouple is welded on the surface of the cylinder cover to measure the average temperatures of the engine cylinder cover. Ceramic adhesive was used for preventing the affect of high temperature combustion gas. The cylinder cover temperatures of the engine were measured by means of surface welding method. As a result, average temperatures of the engine cylinder cover were successfully in the range of 85~335oC. In the present study, the surface welding method was confirmed from the temperature measurement of cylinder cover in an experimental engine, and can be applied to large-sized marine engine without damage.

Abstract:
Nisrina Zahra Elfani, Priyo Sasmoko explain that portable electronic devices have a problem, namely the resistance of electrical energy intake, because these electronic devices get energy from batteries that have limited capacity to store electrical energy. Electronic objects that have now mushroomed and become primary needs such as cellphones and laptops desperately need a tool to recharge batteries. Solar energy can be used to recharge the gatget batteries by converting them to electric power. This will be very useful for those who are field workers, travelers, and nature lovers who need battery charging devices without having to use an adapter that uses an AC source from PLN grids in homes, while in certain circumstances gadget users may not be at home or in a place that provides ac resources. One solution to this problem is the use of a power bank portbale solar charger. Portable power bank solar charger is a charger that is equipped with backup batteries and solar cells as a source of electrical energy. Realized a portable charger that uses the working principles of DC-DC converter circuits such as: buck-boost converter, buck converetr and boost converter as a voltage regulator that is used to charge electronic devices. The ADC channel on the microcontroller is used as feedback for the controller that is also present in the microcontroller used so that the converter output can be maintained at a certain value through setting the duty cyle PWM that drives the converter. This portable power bank solar charger uses a buck-boost converter system and can produce the desired voltage. Buck converters can reduce the output voltage from 5 Volt dc for the use of chargering handphone and boost converter can increase the output voltage around 19 volts dc for the use of notebook charging Keywords: powerbank, portable charger, buck-boost converter, solar cellReferencesGunawan. 2009. At present the equipment in general has used a remote monitoring and operation system. This system usually uses a microcontroller or PLC as a control. In an effort to facilitate human work, in this case I tried to make a design setting the direction of rotation of the DC power windows. This DC power windows motor is usually used in the car to move the windshield up and down. This Windows power DC motor uses a power supply of 12 volt DC and the output is between 0-5 Volt. This design uses Panasonic PLC as its main control. By using the relay as a reverse rotation setting and forward DC power windows, the motor will automatically move in reverse and forward. Abstract:
The trend in industrial control has been to reduce the communications wiring across a plant. Eliminating the cabled connection between a sensors and a host computer enhances the performances and the manageability of a data acquisition system. Through the use of Bluetooth technology the data acquisition components can be paired with a wide variety of pre-existing devices. This makes the host computer portable, cheaper and versatile. Data is collected from the sensors by a microcontroller with an attached Bluetooth module, which transmits the data to a host computer for processing. Costs are reduced by making use of pre-existing processing power and display on the host computer. Depending on the application the data can be processed in any way required on the host computer. This paper describes the practical design of Bluetooth based 12- Channel temperatures acquisition system which contains remote temperature sensors connected to a microcontroller which controls also the Bluetooth module transmission, and a computer connected to a Bluetooth adapter. In this way, the sensors data are collected and processed by the microcontroller, transmitted via Bluetooth to a host computer which monitoring and recording the temperatures measurements.

Abstract:
Abstract This article offers a view as to why Jerome Bruner should become an important figure in future constructions of adaptation theory. It will be divided into three sections. In the first, I discuss in more detail his notions of transformation, paying particular attention to the ways in which we redefine ourselves to cope with different situations (as I did while visiting two specific museums in Vienna and Samos). The second will examine Bruner’s belief in the power of narrative or storytelling as ways to impose order on the uncertainties of life (as well as one’s expectations from it) that renders everyone authors of their own adaptations. In the final section I suggest that the capacity for “making stories” (Bruner’s term) assumes equal importance in psychological terms as it does for the screenwriter or adapter: all of us construct narratives through a process of individual distillation of experiences and information, and subsequently refine them through group interaction. Through this process we understand more about ourselves and our relationship to the world around us. I elaborate this notion through a brief case-study of Charlie Kaufman’s screenplay for the film Adaptation (2002).

Abstract:
Repetition of a visual stimulus reduces the firing rate of macaque inferior temporal (IT) neurons. The neural mechanisms underlying this adaptation or repetition suppression are still unclear. In particular, we do not know how the IT circuit is affected by stimulus repetition. To address this, we measured local field potentials (LFPs) and multiunit spiking activity (MUA) simultaneously at 16 sites with a laminar electrode in IT while repeating visual images. Stimulus exposures and interstimulus intervals were each 500 ms. The rhesus monkeys were performing a passive fixation task during the recordings. Induced LFP power decreased with repetition for spectral frequencies above 60 Hz but increased with repetition for lower frequencies, the latter because of a delayed decrease in power when repeating a stimulus. LFP-LFP and MUA-LFP coherences decreased with repetition for frequencies above 60 Hz. This repetition suppression of the MUA-LFP coherence was not due to differences in firing rate since it was present when spike counts were equated for the adapter and repeated stimuli. For frequencies between 15 and 40 Hz, the effect of repetition on synchronization depended on the electrode depth: For the putative superficial layers synchronization was enhanced with repetition, while the LFPs of the putative deep layers decreased their synchrony across layers. The between-site, trial-to-trial covariations in MUA (“noise correlations”) decreased with repetition, but this might have reflected repetition suppression of the firing rate. This work demonstrates that short-term stimulus repetition affects the synchronized activity, in addition to response strength, in IT cortex.

Abstract:
Abstract The thrombotic cellular mechanisms associated with cardiovascular events remains unclear, largely because of an inability to visualize thrombus formation. In addition, the contribution of endothelial cell (EC) injuries to thrombus formation processes are unclear, and we developed in vivo imaging technique based on single- and multi-photon microscopy to revealed the multicellular processes during thrombus development (Figure a,b). We visualized the cell dynamics including single platelet behavior, and assessed dynamic cellular interplay in two thrombosis models. First, we visualized that rapidly developing thrombi composed of discoid platelets without EC disruption was triggered by ROS photochemically induced by moderate power laser irradiation (Figure c). In this model, thrombus consisted by discoid platelet aggregations without leukocyte recruitment. The second model is, thrombus with EC disruption. High power laser induced EC erosion and extravasations of circulating leukocytes with thrombus development. Inflammatory cytokine, adhesion molecules dynamically control these two processes. (Figure d)Figure.Figure. Using this technique, we elucidated that Lnk (adapter protein) regulates integrin signaling leading to stabilization of developing thrombus without EC disruption. Specifically, adhesion molecules dynamically control these processes. Thrombus formation was initiated by the binding of platelet GPIb-alpha to endothelial von Willebrand Factor in this model, and actin linker talin-dependent activation of alphaIIb-beta3 integrin in platelets was required for late phase thrombus stability. As for the thrombus formation with EC disruption, chemokine expressions in endothelium and leukocyte (especially neutrophils) recruitment played a significant role in these processes. TLR4 signaling also contributed to these steps. In sum, using our imaging system can be a powerful tool to analyze thrombus formation and evaluate the therapeutic strategies. Abstract:
In isolated power converters, the transformer is a key part of voltage transformation and isolation. Since common-mode (CM) noise is rather difficult to suppress compared with different-mode (DM) noise, more and more scholars are paying attention to the characteristics of CM noise, especially in high-frequency CM noise behaviors. CM noise can be further divided into conducted CM noise and radiated CM noise, and the main focus of this paper is on conducted CM noise. The CM coupling capacitance of the transformer is one of the main contributors of CM noise, which has been verified in many previous studies. Hence, eliminating the CM noise in a transformer coupling path can significantly lower the whole CM noise level of the converter. Professional conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing instruments are quite expensive. In this paper, a general transformer evaluation technique for CM noise behavior is proposed. Only a signal generator and oscilloscope can achieve transformer CM noise behavior evaluation. PCB planar flyback transformers are designed, and a series of noise spectrums and voltage waveforms can verify the effectiveness of the proposed transformer evaluation method. The flyback adapter porotype can pass the EMI standard limited line EN55022 class B by the proposed evaluation method.
