Full textThe goal of Master thesis is to investigate expression and features of postmodern style of private dwelling-houses of Lithuania, from the middle of the 9th decade to the 10th decade of the twentieth century. In order to reveal the characteristics, features and cultural significance of the style in Lithuania, the private dwelling-houses of postmodern style of the Western world (the U.S., Western Europe, Japan) are analyzed, as well as conditions which prompted their development. The paper discusses that the social, political and economic factors of Lithuania at that time, led to the suspicion and critical evaluation of postmodern architecture in general. It is assumed that due to the political-economical factors, the Western magazines were one of the main tools for Lithuanian architects to get to know postmodern architecture. Therefore, a comparative analysis between private dwelling-houses published in foreign periodicals, and of Lithuania, is conducted. Consequently the most common features of private dwelling-houses of postmodern style in Lithuania and their links with Western architecture are determined. Houses of Lithuania of high quality postmodern architecture are named, their valuable properties are defined. Thesis consists of: 92 p. text without extras, 57 pictures., 9 schemes, 99 bibliographical entries, 3 appendixes included.

This thesis employs the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) methodology proposed by Norman Fairclough to examine the colonial text, ‘Account of the Inhabitants’, written in 1628 by the Dutch missionary, Georgius Candidius (1597-1647), focusing, in particular, on narratives related to women’s marriage and abortions customs. The aim of the research is to identify the problematic usage of language and to trace the development of the written text and the accompanying discourse, showing how this was produced and practiced, as well as how it influenced Formosa’s Aboriginal society. Candidius’ written words influenced the Western world’s perception of Formosa’s Aboriginal people and have generated a series of historical representations since the seventeenth century. In Taiwan itself, after the lifting of martial law in 1987 and the transformation of political power, the so-called “Pingpu Studies” became, for a while, a main strand of academic research: Dutch-Formosan archival material was drawn upon and the phenomenon of textualization and reproduction emerged on the island. CDA is employed as a linguistic and sociological research method for the historical text and for its later usage in the Western and Taiwanese context. Based on the results of this analysis, the author highlights the ideology implicit in the account provided by Candidius, revealing the structures of power relations and the social inequality. Ultimately, the research doubts that the unchallenged legitimacy of Candidius’ text as a first-hand resource in Taiwan historical studies by a perspective of Postmodern.

Full textPreaching in the church today faces manifold challenges. The dynamic web of relationships between preacher and audience, text and situation is difficult to keep in balance. When analysing the homiletic publications of the present and recent past, it becomes apparent that the sermon is very thoroughly reflected with the context of the situation of the audience. In this connection, one has to draw attention to a possible conflict: a sermon designed with regard to the situation of the audience may be tempted to neglect the biblical text and its demands. Therefore, this thesis aims to make a clarifying contribution to the question of the audience orientation of sermons, namely by means of a homiletic comparison of the epoch of Johann Michael Sailer with the present and recent past. In spite of all critical distance to the history of thought of the Enlightenment Movement, we should not overlook the fact that fruitful impulses emanated from this time, and that, for example, many concerns of the “Catholic Enlightenment” were addressed again at the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). The homiletic efforts of the Enlightenment period in the 18th century, which were widely led by anthropological interests, can be recognized as analogous to the current situation. The homiletic conception of the pastoral theologian and later Bishop of Regensburg, Johann Michael Sailer (1751-1832), will be described in particular. His conception of Christian ethical teaching on a biblical foundation is of timeless relevance. As comparison, the homiletic drafts of Ernst Lange, Rudolf Bohren, Wilfried Engemann and Rolf Zerfaß will be exemplarily analysed, particularly with regard to the expectation of the audience.
