Abstract:
The number of unwanted pregnancies has not decreased in recent years and this should be addressed. Emergency contraception may be effective when used correctly having the advantage that it can be used after an episode of unprotected sexual intercourse (when regular contraception has failed or was not used). In this research project I set out to explore some of the major reasons why there are still many unwanted pregnancies in Australia. I decided to focus on the use and non-use of emergency contraception, e.g. emergency contraception pill (ECP) “method failures” are not well understood because the actual mechanisms of action are still unclear. There is evidence ECP can effectively interfere with follicle growth and ovulation. It is much less clear is whether ECP is able to interfere with fertilization and implantation, in a way, which may make it acceptable to those who have strong religious beliefs in fertilization being the start of new life. Emergency contraception has the potential to prevent many unwanted pregnancies when unprotected intercourse has occurred. It has relatively high efficacy in many studies, but true method failures are not well understood. By contrast, many unwanted pregnancies occur for “social reasons” where emergency contraception has not been used. I set out to study changes in knowledge and usage of emergency contraception in these groups of Australian women seeking termination of pregnancy: 1. Before a dedicated emergency contraception pill (ECP) pack (Postinor) became available in Australia 2. One year after dedicated ECP became available on prescription 3. One year after the ECP pack became available “over the counter” without prescription. Ninety-nine women were recruited during their presentation with a request for ECP at the six Family Planning Clinics in Australia. All women took LNG 1.5mg in a single dose during the clinic consultation. A blood sample was taken immediately prior to ingestion of the ECP for estimation of serum LH, oestradiol and progesterone levels to calculate the day of the menstrual cycle. Based on these endocrine data we estimated the timing of ovulation to within a ±24-hour period with an accuracy of around 80%. Women were followed up 4-6 weeks later to ascertain pregnancy status. The effectiveness of ECP when taken before and after ovulation was determined. Three women in this study became pregnant despite taking the ECP (pregnancy rate 3%). All three women who became pregnant had unprotected intercourse between day -1 and 0 and took the ECP on day +2, based on endocrine data. Day zero was taken as ovulation day. Among seventeen women who had intercourse in the fertile period of the cycle and took the ECP after ovulation occurred (on day +1 to +2) we could have expected 3 or 4 pregnancies, based on Wilcox et al data. Three pregnancies were observed. Among 34 women who had intercourse on days –5 to –2 of the fertile period, and took ECP before or around ovulation, four pregnancies could have been expected, but none were observed. The major discrepancies between women’s self-report of stage of the cycle and the dating calculation based on endocrine data were observed in this study. These data are supportive of the concept that the LNG ECP has little or no effect on post-ovulation events, but is highly effective before ovulation. Our interpretation of the data in terms of timing of treatment relative to ovulation may explain why EC with LNG works sometimes and fails at other times. A larger study is needed to prove this hypothesis. To investigate other reasons for such a high rate of unwanted pregnancy, which probably has a larger impact we looked into womens knowledge of and attitude towards ECP. Seven hundred and eighteen women participated in this study by answering a questionnaire consisting of 15 questions on their demographic and reproductive characteristics as well as the knowledge about the ECP, e.g. 208 women were enrolled before the ECP was marketed in Australia in 2001, 308 after it was marketed and 202 after it became available over the counter (Group 1, 2, and 3, respectively). We found that the participants who have heard about ECP were significantly younger (p<0.005). The mean age of women who have never heard about of ECP was 29.8 years compared to 26.3 years in women who have heard about ECP. More women were aware about the ECP after it became available over the counter. Women in group 2 had higher educational level in comparison to women in group 2 and 3 (p<0.005). There was significant trend in increased use of ECP in women of higher educational level (p<0.005). The use of ECP did not increase significantly with improved availability and access to the ECP amongst women presenting for termination of pregnancy. Wider availability of he ECP pack in Australia and an easier access to it has increased women’s awareness about the ECP. However, the use of ECP has not increased. This study provides better understanding of mechanism of action of LNG ECP and an explanation to the method failure. It also reveals poor knowledge about ECP despite its wider availability and accessibility. Improving these is a worldwide challenge for family planners and all health professionals.

Abstract:
In view of levelling the playing field between foreign and local employers in the host country, the European Commission proposed in March 2016 to revise the Posting of Workers Directive (PWD) 96/71/EC. The amended PWD (EU) 2018/957, that was adopted mid-2018, introduces some significant changes in order to combat the shortcomings resulting from the original PWD, strengthening the importance of ensuring fair competition (between local and foreign employers) and improving the protection of workers. In a nutshell, the PWD aims at promoting the principle of equal pay for equal work in the same place, especially by extending the so-called hard nucleus of working conditions and introducing a provision for long-term postings. This new legislation will be implemented throughout the EU as of mid-2020. The following article aims to investigate the extent to which the changes demand national implementation from an Austrian point-of-view; the latter could serve as a guidance.

Abstract:

Daniel Catán's opera Il Postino was primarily inspired by Chilean author Antonio Skarmeta's 1985 novel Ardiente Paciencia, the 1994 Italian-language film Il Postino , and the poetry of the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. The opera Il Postino was prepared and given its world premiere in Los Angeles in 2010. This initial premiere was followed by national premieres of the same production in Austria, France, Chile, and still to come, Spain in July 2013. Catán's sudden death in April2011 prior to the opera's opening in Paris stunned music lovers worldwide. Now recognized as his final complete opera, Il Postino represents the pinnacle of his effort to add Spanish-language opera to the international canon. This project report explores the reception of Il Postino both prior to and in the wake of Catán's death, introduces themes emphasized in the work, and offers observations on performance interpretation informed by the original production.

Abstract:
Recent years has seen a tremendous increase in both the performance of handheld devices and the use cases they are required to fullfil. Indeed, operations previously reserved for handling on personal computers have begun being executed on smart phones and tablets instead. This revolutionary development allows one to exploit handheld device hardware in novel applications.Trondheim-based start-up “Atbrox” is engaged in an EU project where Atbrox’ focus is search on mobile devices. An important component of search is the inverted index, and within, the per term postings list – an encoded list of Unified Resource Identifiers (URI). Decoding of a postings list must be fast in order to not comprimise the user experience, but is also required to hold a small storage footprint. As the first to our knowledge, this thesis attempts to identify the properties of postings list encoding and decoding on handheld devices.Variable-byte coding, Group Varint coding, and Elias gamma coding are implemented in Objective-C. Performance is surveyed by benchmarking three devices out of Apple: A 5th generation iPod, a 4th generation iPad, and an iPad Air. Executions are run from disk to-disk, i.e. by reading a block of data, applying either encoding or decoding, and writing the result to permanent storage. Block sizes are varied. In addition, multithreading is applied during both encoding and decoding and compared to serial executions in an attempt to identify the properties under which each coding scheme performs best. This thesis provides valueable insight to the properties of coding schemes on handheld devices. Among its findings is the varying degree of performance and compression ratio between coding schemes: Group Varint proves to outperform the two others in terms of speed, however, is lacking in terms of compression. Elias gamma code provides the best compression ratio, but is the slowest in both encoding and decoding. Results also prove a strong correspondance between block size and performance, although a point of saturation is reached at 512 KiB. Additionally, block sizes below 512 KiB display an inability to take advantage of multithreading.

Applied Behavioral Analysis
M.S.Ed.
Staff members supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities often provide the primary supervision and direct instruction to those served. These services are often provided in locations with limited resources and funding, especially within adult services. Supervisors in these settings must ensure necessary documentation and job responsibilities are completed in order to meet regulatory requirements and ensure appropriate care and treatment for individuals’ served. By providing simple and cost effective feedback, supervisors can ensure the staff members are meeting job expectations while ensuring the individuals’ served are having their needs met. This study implemented a reversal design in two separate program rooms within an adult day program to examine the effects of posted group feedback, posted group feedback paired with goal setting, as well as the effect of the placement of the postings in a conspicuous versus non conspicuous location with staff completion of required daily documentation. Results in both rooms indicated that posting group feedback alone did not have as much effect on staff performance unless paired with goal setting. The posting locations in each room also did not seem to have an effect on staff performance.

Blakely, Gillian. "The impact of British military foreign postings on accompanying spouses." Thesis, University of Plymouth, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10026.1/1245.

Full text
Abstract:
In this thesis I report an investigation into the psychological, emotional and social impact of British military foreign postings on accompanying spouses. I adopted an ethnographic methodology utilising a four phase mixed method approach consisting of one quantitative and three qualitative components. The thesis was based on research data collected in Phase 1 from a systematic review of British and US military research focusing on the experiences of accompanying spouses on overseas postings. Data from Phase 2 focused on the experiences from 34 British military spouses based in one location in southern Europe and were collected via individual interviews or focus groups. In Phase 3 data were collated via an online forum from 13 other British military spouses, who had experienced postings to alternative worldwide locations, rather than the single one identified in Phase 2. The final phase represented the study’s quantitative component, which further examined the findings from the previous qualitative phases through 136 responses to an online survey. The systematic review highlighted that the impact of a foreign posting could be detrimental to the military spouse’s well-being particularly if support resources were inadequate. Thematic analysis of data from Phases 2 and 3 corroborated the importance of support networks on international postings, but also identified the fundamental influence of individual differences and personal meaning-making of the military spouse. Ultimately, in Phase 4 multiple linear regression analysis determined that a person’s level of tough-mindedness, their self-efficacy and available instrumental support were all significant predictors of the perceived level of support provided by the British military. Overseas relocations are not beneficial for all military spouses. To have a greater understanding of this impact, it is necessary to examine and combine principles in the domains of sociology and psychology. The outcome of this then feeds into adjustment theories and contributes to the field of healthcare practice. Nonetheless, the military are in a constructive position to maximise the effectiveness of support resources alongside health professionals to provide the holistic support that military spouses may need. Specifically, regular informal checks from a healthcare professional or a support worker to assess the well-being of the military spouse could help early identification of any coping problems. This together with cross-cultural awareness training and a greater involvement of the military spouse throughout the relocation process could enhance their foreign posting experience.

Abstract:
The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate online risk-taking behaviour among adolescents. A total of 189 adolescents were given an online self-report questionnaire containing 20 examples of possible online posts. Half of the participants were presented with an application prior to the questionnaire that provided relevant, in-the-moment information about how their posts might be used and seen by others, and the other half were given an irrelevant Internet facts application. The likelihood of posting online content was assessed based on the type of post (emotionally evocative versus personal information), the nature of the post (public versus private), the gender of the participant (boy, girl), the type of app received (PostFire versus GhostFire), as well as the interaction of these variables. Results showed that while boys and girls were more likely to report that they would post or send content privately than publicly, girls were even more likely than males to report that they would send all types of information privately. Findings indicate that adolescents, particularly girls, are unlikely to discriminate between types of content online when privately messaging with others.

SKINNI is an application that allows users to access, annotate, and share contextually relevant information from smart digital kiosks in public spaces. These platforms will not only enable information exchange from public spaces, but will also support more complex tasks like enterprise integration, informal collaboration, and public need servicing. To test the effectiveness of our system, we deployed SKINNI on four kiosks throughout MIT CSAIL. Usage statistics that we have gathered suggest that SKINNI has been well-received by both lab members and visitors. In short, SKINNI has contributed to the utility of ubiquitous computing in transitional spaces like elevator lobbies, hallways, and lounges.

Engelbrecht, Leandri. "Are negative or derogative postings on social media a valid ground for dismissal?" Diss., University of Pretoria, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/60044.

Full text
Abstract:
Social media has influenced the world in many different ways and the sphere of employment law is no different. We see a dramatic increase in cases regarding the dismissal of employees for posts on social media and this results in the important question: Is a negative or derogative post on social media a valid reason for a dismissal? Even though we do not have specific legislation dealing with social media in the workplace, the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995 provides us with clarity as to the reasons why an employee may be dismissed. The Act further states the substantive and procedural aspects of each type of dismissal one must comply with before a dismissal can be deemed fair. It is important for an employer to have a code of conduct, otherwise known as a disciplinary code. That clearly stipulates the rules within the employment relationship. Such a code or policy will also provide the suggested consequences for the breach of said rules. If such a breach resulting in misconduct is classified as serious, dismissal may be an appropriate sanction. This dissertation seeks to determine whether a negative or derogative post on social media can be regarded as a form of misconduct and a valid ground for a dismissal in terms of the South African labour law sphere. Section 188 of the Labour Relations Act provides us with the three grounds for a fair dismissal, these being an employee?s conduct or capacity, or the operational requirements of the employer. To reach such a conclusion, various legislation will be examined and the South African position will be compared to the legal position in the United Kingdom.

Abstract:
This study evaluated the effects of public postings on energy conservation behavior at a public university, using a multiple baseline design across three settings; bathrooms break rooms, and conference rooms. The behavior of building occupants was recorded to assess the frequency at which those individuals would turn lights off upon exiting an unoccupied room. The independent variables implemented by experimenters (light-switch plate stickers and laminated signs) had little to no effects on cumulative instances of lights turned off however, the installation of motion sensor lights produced better results. Across all conditions, lights were turned off most frequently in conference rooms (65% of observations) followed by break rooms (9% of observations), and bathrooms (3% of observations).

Mashigo, Given Rosina. "Experiences of the spouses of South African diplomats during posting in a foreign country." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/46175.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of the spouses of South African diplomats on a posting in a foreign country. The study focused on the factors that enabled or hindered effective adjustment during posting. Research conducted showed that one of the greatest challenges facing international assignments is that organisations do not only deal with an employee but the whole family, their needs and expectations in the relocation process. The adjustment constraints in this study referred to pre-departure preparation, support provided by the Department, religion and cultural differences or similarities, foreign language, environmental factors and personal health. A qualitative research approach was applied. Data was collected through a semi-structured interview schedule. The study was conducted among nine (9) spouses who returned from posting between 2009 and 2011. Some of the spouses completed the posting whilst others returned prematurely due to adjustment problems. The findings indicated inconsistencies on how the Department prepares and supports spouses before and during posting; and that cultural and religious differences, foreign language competence and environmental factors have a considerable impact on the adjustment of spouses in a foreign country. Social support network, particularly the Embassy staff and diplomatic spouses’ associations play a crucial role in helping spouses to adjust. The study also found that spouses’ inability to adjust can result in early termination of posting. The recommendations are that the Department should review the training curriculum and provide support to spouses during the posting. The study will benefit the department, the diplomats and spouses in future postings.

Abstract:
The purpose with this study was to examine whether gender moderate the associationbetween body satisfaction and posting photos of exercise and training on Instagram. We usedan online survey to collect our participants that we posted in a local social network site forstudents in a swedish medium sized city (n = 239). The results of the moderated regressionanalysis showed that gender affect the association between body satisfaction and postingphotos of exercise and training on Instagram. As we hypothesized, men who rated high inbody satisfaction posted more photos of exercise and training on Instagram. Women’s postingof exercise and training on Instagram was not affected by their levels of body satisfaction.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore the alignment of soft skills sought by current business IS entry-level employers in electronic job postings, with the integration of soft skills in undergraduate business information systems (IS) syllabi of public four-year universities in Texas. One hundred fifty job postings were extracted from two major electronic career databases. Ten undergraduate AACSB-accredited programs in the field of business information systems (IS) were investigated, and syllabi for the 70 major courses of the business IS programs were obtained for review. Content analysis was applied to all job postings and syllabi, exposing all soft skills related to the 9 categories used in this study adapted from the 21st Century Framework for Learning (Partnership for 21st Century Learning, 2009). Frequencies were tabulated to determine rank of soft skills in job postings and syllabi, and Jaccard’s coefficient statistic of occurrence was used for cluster analysis. Soft skills within all 9 categories were found in job postings (n = 1554) and course syllabi (n = 774). Three soft skill categories were aligned between job postings and syllabi: (1) initiative and self-direction, (2) social and cross-cultural skills, and (3) flexibility and adaptability. However, because differences in the higher ranked frequencies of soft skills in job postings and syllabi were noted, the null hypothesis of this study was rejected.

Abstract:
Applied Behavioral Analysis
M.S.Ed.
Three interventions using public posting and review of client data in order to increase the effectiveness of staff implementation of functional communication training (FCT) within a school setting were compared. These interventions included: public review and posting of client data, public review and posting of client data paired with a coded shape for each staff member, and public review and posting of client data paired with a coded shape for each staff member with added reinforcement incentives. There were three student participants and three staff participants. For two student participants, FCT increased from baseline through intervention phases and staff were more likely to implement functional communication training during the final phase where reinforcement was added for the staff. Added reinforcement increased staff implementation of FCT paired with public review and posting of client data. For the third participant, results varied, but staff implemented the most during the public review and posting phases compared to baseline and reached a mean of 10 responses per session. There was also a negative correlation between functional communication responses (FCR) and challenging behaviors for two participants. This supports previous research and demonstrates the value of functional communication training as a behavior intervention tactic.

Abstract:
Purpose & Research questions: The purpose of this study is to examine how the use of social media as a marketing channel has influenced the company's way of working. With this purpose in mind, our research questions were formulated as follows: 1. Why are social media agencies a growing phenomenon, even though there are clear tendencies that social media are designed to be, as far as possible, a free method for all users? 2. Why do business companies purchase social media agencies to succeed in social media? Methodology: Qualitative method with a selection of eight semistructured interviews. Conclusion: The study's findings show that social media as a marketing channel has contributed to a change in companies way of working. The study shows that it is knowledge and time that are the mainfactors why companies choose to outsource a part of their organization. Furthermore the communication between consumers and companies has changed significantly. The social media agencies are growing in the same pace as the social media are developing.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to empirically evaluate the effects of a positive peer reporting package, namely the Duck, Duck Tootle Intervention Program on on-task behavior of target students and classwide on-task behavior. An ABAB withdrawal design was used to evaluate the effects of the tootling package on classwide and target students rates of positive peer reporting and on-task behavior. Cluster sampling was employed to select a total of 10 classes for this study. Five intact regular education elementary classrooms were chosen across grade levels to serve as the experimental group. Two target students identified by each classroom teacher as having behavior and/or academic difficulties were participants in the study. This 21-day intervention was implemented in a Chapter I elementary school, located within a low-income suburb in a large metropolitan area in the southwestern United States. The students were in kindergarten through fourth grade and ranged in age from 5 to 9.6 years. Specific target behaviors were identified for each participant (e.g. out-of-place behavior, inappropriate noise). The collected data for each of the 10 elementary school target students in this study included (a) percentage of on-task behavior, (b) percentage of target behavior, and (c) individual tootle counts. Also included in data collection were classwide tootle counts. Teacher procedural integrity data was also obtained. Results revealed that during the tootling intervention phase, in which group contingency and feedback procedures were implemented, on-task behavior increased and the mean number of individual and classwide tootles increased. Decreases in on-task behavior and mean tootles were observed during the second baseline phase. Limitations associated with the current study, implications for implementation in alternative education settings and future research are discussed.

Abstract:
Social networking sites are a major networking tool for consumer interactions as they provide a platform for communication, socialization, and learning activity. Subsequently, social media has become an important marketing tool for advertising companies’ messages. As a result, fashion brands such as H&M and Victoria’s Secret started to show more brand ads on Facebook. Facebook is one of the most powerful social networking sties due to its ability to reach to broad consumer groups through a brand page. However, research regarding this topic is limited as the social networking sites is relatively a new phenomenon. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine the effect of the brand’s comments in attenuating (enhancing) negative (positive) influence of other consumer’s postings on brand trust and purchase intention of other consumer’s postings on social media. Findings from this study revealed that there is no moderating effect of brand comments of the relationship between other consumer’s postings and brand trust, while positive other consumer’s postings has a significant effect on consumers’ brand trust. Also, there were no significant differences among other consumer’s postings, brand comments and purchase intention relationships. These findings add to the previous literature explains that brand should interact with consumers frequently in order to induce positive other consumer’s postings to develop brand trust. By using the consumer socialization theory to investigate Facebook marketing, this study provides insights and information on consumer attitudes and behaviors related to Facebook brand page.

Abstract:
A bank borrowing some money has to give some securities to the lender, which is called collateral. Different kinds of collateral can be posted, like cash in different currencies or a stock portfolio depending on the terms of the contract, which is called a Credit Support Annex (CSA). Those contracts specify eligible collateral, interest rate, frequency of collateral posting, minimum transfer amounts, etc. This guarantee reduces the counterparty risk associated with this type of transaction. If a CSA allows for posting cash in different currencies as collateral, then the party posting collateral can, now and at each future point in time, choose which currency to post. This choice leads to optionality that needs to be accounted for when valuing even the most basic of derivatives such as forwards or swaps. In this thesis, we deal with the valuation of embedded optionality in collateral contracts. We consider the case when collateral can be posted in two different currencies, which seems sufficient since collateral contracts are soon going to be simplified. This study is based on the conditional independence approach proposed by Piterbarg [8]. This method is compared to both Monte-Carlo simulation and finite- difference method. A practical application is finally presented with the example of a contract between Natixis and Barclays.

The aim of this work is to estimate an equilibrium job search model with heterogeneity in productivities of firms using microdata from the Monthly Employment Survey (PME) collected in 2009. The model is estimated for the six metropolitan regions covered by the PME. Moreover, it is considered two mechanisms of wage determination: wage posting by monopsonistic firms and as a outcome of a Nash bilateral bargaining. To estimate the model, we use the non-parametric method developed by Bontemps, Robin and van den Berg (2000). There is a significant heterogeneity among the structural parameters estimated for the six metropolitan regions. Furthemore, the model with wage determination through bargaining show plausible results and not rejected by the data.

Abstract:
Active research of SMAs has shown that its Seebeck coefficient is sensitive to its martensitic phase transformation and has the potential to determine the SMAs state of transformation. The combination of Shape Memory Alloys, which have a positive Seebeck coefficient, and Constantan which has a negative Seebeck coefficient (-35 mV/K) results in a thermocouple capable of measuring temperature. The work presented in this thesis is based on the development and design of this sensor. This sensor is used to study the hysteretic behaviour of SMAs. Although Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) exhibit a myriad of nonlinearities, SMAs show two major types of nonlinear hysteresis. During cyclic loading of the SMAs, it is observed that one type of hysteretic behavior depends on the rate of heating the SMAs, whilst the variation of maximum temperature of an SMA in each cycle results in the other hysteretic behavior. This later hysteretic behavior gives rise to major and minor nonlinear loops of SMAs. The present work analyzes the nonlinearities of hysteretic envelopes which gives the different maximum temperatures reached for each hysteretic cycle with respect to stress and strain of the SMA. This work then models this behavior using Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and compares it to experimental results. The nonlinear learning and adaptation of ANFIS architecture makes it suitable to model the temperature path hysteresis of SMAs.

Business Administration/Management Information Systems
Ph.D.
In the past decade, a fundamental research topic in the information systems (IS) discipline has been to examine the value of online platforms on businesses, society, and consumers, notably in the form of improved efficiency in information sharing, consumer engagement, and increased sales. However, the risks rooted in online platforms may cannibalize the value created, which have received limited attention in the literature and practice. In my dissertation, I attempt to fill this gap in the literature by providing a comprehensive analysis of the risks of online platforms from the angle of these three main entities in the ecosystem with three separate yet related essays. The first essay focuses on the risks for businesses that leverage social media platforms, and assesses how their posting on social media fan pages affects consumers’ decision to purchase and unfollow from the firms. The second essay focuses on the risks of fake news on social media and how social media platforms may use identity verification to reduce online anonymity and combat this increasingly critical social problem. The third essay focuses on estimating the risks of using monetary incentives to motivate consumers to write online product reviews, and examines how such strategy may affect product sales. Our studies have theoretical and practical implications for designing effective online platform information systems.

Abstract:
Leaned with the theoretical executives of a psychology of the social development of the child, of a semiology peircian and a sociology of the language, this thesis fits in the field of sciences of education and target more particularly the processes of construction of the inequalities of training who are formed as of the nursery school. It supports the assumption of a relationship between the symbolic system, the linguistic one and the cognitive one which, according to the socialization modes, led to the interpretations differentiated from the situations of training, as of the nursery school. For that, she studies the manner whose pupils of great section, resulting from contrasted social environments, build the significance of the plurisemiotized systems of a seldom studied school object, the didactic poster. In support of an analytical method relating to talks of pupils confronted with this kind of support, the analysis of the linguistic phenomena cognitivo and their variations leads to results showing that the modes of interpretation of the pupils are different according to their capacity to symbolize and to use the language in its elaborative function. The originality of this thesis is due to the link that it makes it possible to establish, starting from configurations of subject-social-interpreting, between the modes of interpretation privileged by the pupils and the representations which they are made of the objects of knowing, in the context of the trainings first

Abstract In the present work a quality evaluation of a better machining strategy with 5 axes is done, depending on the geometry of the desired component. The machining strategies are then compared to 5 continuous axes and 5 positional axes, having as comparison parameters the machining time and a surface nish quality of the component. Using case studies, the in uence of the machining trajectories in the productive times is studied, as well as the in uence of the xation devices of the components. It was also studied the in uence of the xation system of the small and medium sized inserts, in the surface nish, in the geometric and dimensional tolerance, and in what way is in uenced the number of tightenings necessary for the total machining of the due components. It can be concluded that for machining small and medium size inserts, machining at 5 positional axes is better than machining at 5 continuous axes, except for contour nishing using the swarf strategy, although this strategy is dependent on the geometry of the component.

Abstract:
This essay describes coordination of the work environment on construction sites where many entrepreneurs share workplace. As employer, the entrepreneur has main responsibility for the workers safety on the construction site, the project supervisor is responsible for the work environment, and to coordinate the work environment a coordinator of the construction work environment is appointed. The purpose of this essay is to describe how the work environment is ensured on a shared workplace. In order to answer the essays questions I’ve used a juridical method to interpret the law. Current law and regulations has been studied, as well as the industry's rules and regulations. The juridical method is complemented by social science methodology by the use of an empirical survey consisting of interviews with a coordinator of the construction work environment, and subcontractors on a construction site. The questions of this essay concerns the project supervisor’s and the entrepreneur’s safety responsibilities of the working environment, and how they ensure their joint work environment. And also the requirements imposed on the entrepreneur’s coordination responsibilities, and if the working methods differ when the workers are posted. A construction site is a complicated workplace with many companies working side by side. Requirements for cooperation and consultation are the responsibility of all employers who have employees engaged on the same construction site. Entrepreneurs who post workers in Sweden have the same employer responsibilities as other entrepreneurs, and shall ensure the work environment of the posted worker.

Abstract:
Social Media Activism (SMA) has become a staple of almost every modern-day movement around the world. The appeal of this tool is obvious in its prevalence, and diversity of uses. Social media enables any voice, anywhere to be heard by anyone around the world including those that have the power to implement necessary changes globally. However, the world is still yet to discover how it can be used most effectively and avoid the pitfalls of becoming slacktivism instead of activism. Many users participate in movements because they are trendy as opposed to passion for the changes sought which leads to inconsistency and a decrease in impact. Other users underutilize the tools or incorrectly use them. There are various reasons why movements fail, and most of those reasons stem from the way movement participants use tools for activism. As a result of this, in order to ensure that current and future movements can operate at maximum effectiveness, the most important aspect of movements to be studied is the participants and consistency. This thesis sheds light on how to engage participants as best as possible by analysing the use of Facebook by participants in the Black Lives Matter movement as well as the Catalan Independence Movement, whether the movements have been successful thus far through an analysis of Legal changes, and also through an examination of the consistency of the movements over time. These two movements seem at face value to be incredibly different which is good for coming to an unbiased conclusion, however they have many similarities in that both have had various degrees of success over the years and seek both social and legal changes that will greatly transform their respective societies. The Black Lives Matter movement was created to combat the wrongful killings of Black Men and women in the United States as well as the laws that allow the killers to get away with murder and unfair treatment in general. The Catalan Independence Movement was created to seek independence of the region of Catalunya from Spain. Both movements gained international recognition over the years and consist of members who are extremely passionate about the causes, achieving the transformations they seek, and securing a better future for those affected. By comparing the results of the research for each of these two extremely different movements with extremely different participants in terms of geography, ethnicity, age, etc., and different goals, and then noting the similarities in the results, it is quite clear that the identified patterns in consistency, responses from participants and even the legal ramifications to some extent, show an obvious correlation between what has been effective in the Black Lives Matter movement and in the Catalan Independence Movement. As a result of this, this thesis sheds much needed light on how to utilize Facebook most effectively as a tool for activism particularly through communication, organization and mobilization in Social Movements. That insight will help current and upcoming movements to achieve the social and political transformation they seek and ultimately aid in transforming the world.

Abstract:
This master thesis is devoted to tax issues of international hiring out of labour and aims to summarize this field into a complete overview. The Institute of international hiring out of labour brings us to a three-sided relationship where the employer is leased by his legal employer to an economic employer who enjoys the fruits and benefits of his work. The work is structured into five chapters. The first two chapters outline the current situation and general concepts. The third chapter can be considered as crucial. In this part of the master thesis is described the tax impact on a leased employee and the employer's business. The tax consequences for the legal employer are mentioned only in connection with the formation of a permanent establishment. The following chapter deals with some of the problems that occur in practice, and that is the confusion of the Institute of international hiring out of labour for contract for the work. The last chapter deals with some aspects of international hiring out of labour in the German Federal Republic.

Abstract:

Project Management is multidisciplinary in nature; it involves a number of activities and requires the project manager to possess a wide variety of competences. This thesis aims to investigate which competences organizations currently require from project managers. In particular the focus of this research is to examine and contrast the “soft” (interpersonal) and “hard” (technical) competences required by the job market and to find out if organizations recognize the importance of both of them or if they pay special attention to one of them. A total of 50 online job advertisements from different industries and countries were analyzed using content analysis in order to determine what competences are valued by employers. Furthermore, 9 semi-structured interviews were conducted with project management academics and practitioners in order to provide a more in depth study and to allow triangulation between the findings. The results indicate that some competences are more valued than others. Communication, project integration management and scope management are the top three competences required by employers. The results also suggest that employers, academics and practitioners are aware of the need to balance hard and soft competences.

Burji, Carla. "Evaluating feedback during the Step It Up! game to increase physical activity exhibited by elementary school students during recess." Scholarly Commons, 2019. https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/uop_etds/3629.

Full text
Abstract:
Children who are physically inactive are more likely to suffer numerous health complications such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. The Good Behavior Game (GBG) has been identified as an effective method for decreasing inappropriate behaviors and increasing appropriate behaviors in a variety of settings; however, few studies have used the GBG to increase physical activity. Furthermore, no previous research has evaluated the effects of feedback while playing the GBG to increase physical activity. Some research suggests certain characteristics of feedback tend to produce consistent changes in behaviors such as providing feedback immediately and privately. The purpose of the current study was to extend previous research and evaluate whether the addition of feedback to the Step it UP! Game, a modified version of the GBG has an impact on children’s step counts. A reversal (ABCAB) design was used to examine the number of steps students took during baseline (A), the Step it UP! Game (B), and the Step it UP! Game with feedback (C). Sealed pedometers were distributed to 21 students from a fifth-grade general education classroom. The results of this study suggest that the Step it UP! Game with feedback did not enhance the number of steps taken during recess. Additionally, the Step it UP! Game (with and without feedback) did result in a slight increase in mean steps per min during recess initially but, these steps did not maintain overtime.

This thesis has as its object of study and research analyzing people with no religious belief in the cyberspace through the virtual communities, mainly within Orkut, for being the social network used by most Brazilians as a means of disseminating ideas and defend these ones in virtual space. The research questions are: How does the changing from Brazilian religious hegemony to pluralism happen and develop? What are its causes and effects? Is the current religious situation a crisis or a new institutional enhancement? How is cyberspace used by a non-institutional religion? What is God s interface on the Orkut social network? What comprehension can we have about the postings of no religious Internet users on Orkut? The main hypothesis shows that people with no religious belief are a heterogeneous group but not necessarily marked by disbelief, these ones can be classified as: No religion syncretic people, people who move from one church to another, skeptic people about the institution, the agnostics and the atheists. The cyberspace enables a social, cultural and religious reconfiguration of the same ones with a religious breaking within the traditional and no institutional religious system, but the religiosity is still maintained. The first part of thesis analyses the Brazilian religious changes that led to the emerging of people who have no religious belief, that is, the transition of the religious hegemony to the pluralism. Religious changes were worked, which led from the catholic supremacy to the religious pluralism until the emerging of people who have no religious belief in the postmodernity situation process. The second of thesis research part studies people who have no religious belief in the virtual communities, as Orkut in a special way, to understand the action of this social network

Abstract:
Last years, e-recruitment expansion has led to the multiplication of web channels dedicated to job postings. In an economic context where cost control is fundamental, assessment and comparison of recruitment channel performances have become necessary. The purpose of this work is to develop a decision-making tool intended to guide recruiters while they are posting a job on the Internet. This tool provides to recruiters the expected performance on job boards for a given job offer. First, we identify the potential predictors of a recruiting campaign performance. Then, we apply text mining techniques to the job offer texts in order to structure postings and to extract information relevant to improve their description in a predictive model. The job offer performance predictive algorithm is based on a hybrid recommender system, suitable to the cold-start problem. The hybrid system, based on a supervised similarity measure, outperforms standard multivariate models. Our experiments are led on a real dataset, coming from a job posting database
