Full textHandling of alarms on network nodes is a process that requires network technicians to visit several sources of information before they can draw a conclusion on the reason behind the alarm. By visiting several different sources of information, it may be difficult to establish a good overview of the problem. This study is made on request by the Swedish traffic authority Trafikverket to ease the workload of the co-workers at the department network operations center (NOC). A web application has been developed to amalgamate the most common sources a network technician visits. The web application presents the amalgamated information in a way that eases the troubleshooting process for the network technicians. The web application also indicates what the most common reasons are, depending on which kind of alarm that is being handled. Due to the large availability of different software it can be difficult for a developer to choose a suitable software. Even if some are excluded based on the purpose of the development there are still many choices. This study emphasizes that the software NodeJS, PostgreSQL and PostGIS works well together and is a suitable choice when creating a web application that needs to use spatial functions. To evaluate the web application a user test was conducted were nine participants, 47% of the personnel at Trafikverket NOC participated. The result shows positive results in both how well the web application filled its purpose by indicating possible reasons for a network alarm as well as the participants experiences with the web application. In the user test 100% of the participants claim that the web application would save them time and the three most popular features were polygons of electricity distributors, real time weather data and an amalgamation of internal data in one place.

Brazil is the fourth largest swine producer and exporter in world, with swine farming being very representative in the national scenario. This production, however, implies generation of waste and this needs to be mitigated. One of the alternatives to reduce the impact caused by pig waste is the application of anaerobic biodigestion treatment, obtaining biogas and digestate as by-products. Digestate can be used as biofertilizer, generating a new product. In this context, this work proposes to define a geographic database from different sources about the national production of swine and to estimate, supported by calculation methodology defined in activities of the BiogasFert Network, the respective production of waste and biogas. These results were provided in an web system using GeoServer map server. In addition, a methodology was defined in this work to identify areas of permanent preservation in top of hills, based on the Brazilian new forest code published since 2012, and in classes of declivity unfit for fertilizer inputs (regions with slopes greater than 45%). As result, a total of 60,879,431 km² (0,72%) of areas considered inapt for the application of fertilizers in the national territory were identified. Another objective of this work was to highlight the use of free GIS software and its processing power, since the metrics applied here were elaborated using exclusively open source software.

The establishment of more efficient management and operating approaches of a water supply system, cannot be done nowadays without the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). This fact is due to the spatial nature of data used and produced by the water utility. Within a GIS, the data could be used to develop and construct a hydraulic models. These are fundamental tools to support the design and operation of a water supply system. The construction and maintenance of a hydraulic model can be both a time and resource consuming process. The water supply data updating process renders the hydraulic model obsolete so less accurate. Using two databases, one for the GIS and another for the model, requires additional data updating efforts. In spite of the existence of hydraulic modeling softwares capable of connecting and importing GIS data, these solutions represent additional costs and may have lower flexibility to water utility existing procedures or sustaining future needs. This MSc dissertation aimed to design and implement a data model capable of characterizing water system’s main components and to integrate EPANET based hydraulic model into the open source database management system (DBMS) PostgreSQL, along with spatial extension PostGIS. The developed system is capable of assembling a hydraulic model, running a simulation and storing the results in a single database. The implemented procedures were coded in pgSQL or Python and can be executed using SQL instructions. This permits the user to choose among different front-ends or GIS Desktop solutions. Finally, a case study was conducted where the developed system was applied to Casal Ribeiro water system (Ourém), managed by Be Water S.A.. The implemented system showed that an integrated approach provides a fast method to create a hydraulic model using stored GIS data, in mapping results, and in creating queries or views using the DBMS capabilities.
Dinis, Luís Filipe Cunha. "Framework para gestão de Pastoreio Virtual." Master's thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10348/3010.
Years ago herding was an activity carried out by a large number of shepherds, especially in the north of the country and they all had a big number of heads in the herd. However in recent decades, the grazing activity has declined, also associated with the aging of existing pastors. With this work, it is intended to contribute to permit the operation of cattle in extensive regime, without the need for human presence in the field. This leads to the notion of Virtual Herding, a management system that allows remote monitoring of grazing, using wireless sensor networks. These have been a useful aid in monitoring places of difficult access, intrusion detection, in greenhouses (monitoring environment and increasing production/quality). With the aid of sensor nodes to monitor the surrounding vegetation, we will have the perception of areas which can serve for grazing. Combining data collected by sensors to the Geographic Information System, they can be georeferenced and stored in a database for further analysis and manipulation. Storing the maximum information about the herds we can build a powerful database that will assist us in grazing management. The visible part of the Virtual Herding system consists of a web application that allows grazing management. Information about the herd such as animal identification, date of birth, date of slaughter, birth, weight, vaccination and haircut will be available on the portal as well as the geographic information of grazing areas and ideals respective heights of vegetation.
This dissertation, entitled "Development of a marine environment data Portal", presents a solution for the standardisation and availability of information of this type of environment, specific to the work carried out at the Hydrographic Institute. Large volumes of information, with different origins, dates and formats and with distinct stages of processing, existing in this institute, restrict their insertion into a standardised database, which, consequently, limits the access of the information to its users. To achieve such goal, tools optimised according to the existing information and customised for future users have been developed, allowing the link between them and the database with the harmonised information of the marine environment. Its implementation was based on marine data acquired in the project "Environmental characterisation of the maritime expansion area of the port of Sines and surrounding territory", requested by the Administration of the port of Sines and coordinated by the Marine Geology division of this Institute. This project was carried out by a multidisciplinary team, which involved technical and scientific areas, such as marine geology, chemistry and marine pollution, hydrography and oceanography. The present work began with the treatment and analysis of the information corresponding to these areas, in order to harmonise it, so that it can be integrated into a geographic database. Afterwards, it was made available in a WebSIG portal, developed in this paper, in which applications and tools were created, to allow the user to consult the metadata and the visualisation of a set of information selected by the same. In the implementation of the database and in the development of the portal, as in the tools, was used free and open source software, following the national directives to encourage the use of this type of software in Public Administration. The relational database management system used was PostgreSQL, with the spatial extension PostGIS, and was fed with the harmonised information of the marine environment. Application building and tool customisation were developed on the MapServer map server under the p.Mapper framework. Interoperability of the geographic information in the mentioned software was verified, which allows us to conclude that there is compatibility between the database built in PostgreSQL/PostGIS and MapServer, p.Mapper and QGIS. It should also be said that the portal created combines conditions to integrate any kind of information (e.g. orthophotomaps, satellite images, topographic maps, equipment information, team elements), including other auxiliary areas, in the campaigns carried out by the Hydrographic Institute.
Isqueiro, Sandro Filipe Nascimento. "Radar exchange: Open market for goods and services at no cost." Master's thesis, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/24308.

Full textIt has been established that the management and protection of water resources in Greece is at a very early stage. Even though the European Union issued EU Directives that cover the needs of such a management framework since 2000, the integration into the Greek reality has not been fully achieved so far. In particular regarding water resources allocated between two or more administrative units, the sustainable management and protection becomes even more difficult, since in most cases a single management structure is unable to be established. Therefore, the collection and recording of activities that seem to adversely affect the quality of the water and the surrounding environment of the region is necessary. Still, particularly auxiliary is the inclusion on electronic databases, so it is easier to find collective and edit them. An important part of such data (e.g. pollution sources) has spatial information, so the databases will be developed in order to be assisted with spatial functions required. This is possible by creating spatial databases that can store, manage and retrieve efficiently large volumes of spatial information. The purpose of this thesis is the design and implementation of a system of a spatial database for the catchment area of the River Alfeios (Alpheus). As the collection of data on the activities developed around the river showed, there are significant problems of pollution and degradation of water quality in the region. It is pursued the collection, analysis and processing of all the features of the area negatively affecting water resources and the environment, in order to estimate pollutant loads, resulting in Alfeios. In the first chapters of the thesis are presented the legislative framework for the management of water resources at European and national level and the basic characteristics of the existing situation in the catchment area, which directly or indirectly affect water resources and what they are. Then, take place the setting of user requirements and the design of the database, in which the data are going to be imported. Next, analyzes the technologies, as well as the free and open source software chosen for the establishment of the base. At the final stage, the implementation process of the base is described and the calculation of pollutant loads of nitrogen (n), phosphorus (p) and organic compounds through the execution of complex and compound queries on data using Structural Query Language (SQL).
