[eng] Tourism is a major social fact. In Europe, it was born in the 17th century in England, and took shape in the Grand Tour during which young aristocrats roamed Europe as the last stage to complete their studies. With socio-economic development, tourism has shifted from a privilege reserved for elites to a widespread phenomenon in all social strata. Its forms have also been much diversified following the increase and multiplication of recreational needs of tourists. Mass tourism marked the Thirty Glorious in Europe, while post-Fordist tourism characterized by a more flexible and individualized organization took shape after mass tourism fell into crisis. The changes noted in the evolution of tourism are all strongly linked to socio-economic development. In China, tourism is recent but is growing vigorously. At the international level, this country is already ranked among the top ten international tourist destinations and will be ranked 1st in the near future according to the UNWTO. At the national level, the number of domestic tourists is estimated to reach 5 billions in 2017 according to the official statistics of the National Bureau of Tourism. Barely 40 years since its birth in 1978, Chinese tourism has developed much faster than in Western countries. We are interested to know how it has evolved and whether it has followed the same path that Europe has completed. Moreover, through the study of a specific case --- the Moganshan, we also want to highlight that how the evolution of tourism has influenced the tourist process of a place such as the typology of tourists, the forms of tourism and the practiced tourist space.

Full textBased on a theoretical and methodological Post-Operaist approach, this Ph.D. dissertation poses a philosophical conceptualization of precarity and Post-Fordism. The fundamental focus of our research is the development of a cartography compiling the multiple debates that have taken place within this strand of thought. However, this cartography is not an end in itself; rather it aims to open a new perspective for the analysis of transformations in workforce composition. On the one hand, the concept of Post-Fordism provides not only fundamental elements for the comprehension of different dynamics of capitalist valorization, but also it is key to understand the lines of conflict as well the processes of subjectivation. On the other hand, the concept of precarity –as we outline it in this research– emerges as a plane of immanence upon which capital articulates its strategies of expropriation, subordination and capture within the new composition of labor.

Full textThis dissertation aims to question the phenomenon of going beyond the dualism that emerges during the passage from the postfordist context of production, to another context that we try to examine according to the approach of the current of new materialism. It is a watermark and finally, the machine of abstraction and speculation, and therefore creativity in our current era of real abstraction, financial, cognitive capitalism and the Anthropocene. From the posthumanist point of view that claims that everything is material in process, we propose to rethink the practice of creativity, the practitioner, and the coming common world in terms of the entanglement of becoming, which is transformed into "becoming-with". This thesis is divided into three parts: The first, based on Paolo Virno and Gilbert Simondon to examine artistic productions, as a creation of social and collective form, whose overriding tendencies are omnipresent and question autonomy, the alienation and the production of subjectivity. In Part 2, to delineate the relationship between creativity and the overcoming of dualism, we will rely on the speculative thinking of Alfred North Whitehead, particularly in comparison with the idea of real abstraction and speculation as production. Then, we will explore the idea of speculative engagement, and cosmopolitics with Isabelle Stengers, Latour Bruno, Donna Haraway in an aesthetic-politico-ecological and posthumanist approach. In Part 3, we will study the various thoughts of new materialism, including those by Manuel De Landa, Bruno Latour, Rosi Braidotti, and Karen Barad, who emphasize the agency of matter by questioning dualism. Thus, we propose to rethink the work and the public, as an assembly of human-non-humans, and the transformative effect of art in the "becoming-with," which lies between the subject and the posthumanist practice, which acts as a correspondence with material flows in an ecology of practice

Full textThis thesis deals with the issue of productive work in prison, in a context of paradigm shift, both criminal (of "rehabilitation" to the "incapacitation", on the purpose assigned to the punishment) and structural (from "Fordism" to "post-Fordism", as political economic structure). The research focuses on the management of CIRE in Catalonia, Spain, because of its singu-lar mixed system (public-private), and postulated the hypothesis of a possible economic functionality that contradicts the Spanish law, since it assigns to prison labour purpose of social reintegration and repels institutional profitability.According to the epistemology of legal sociology, the analysis covers two levels: the nor-mative, contrasted with the concrete implementation, and the structural, referred to the penal model as a response adapted to the social, political and economic system that sus-tains it. The research relies on the theoretical model proposed by Georg Rusche and Otto Kirchheimer (in its classic "Punishment and Social structure"), in order to review, from there, the prison archetypes that marked the history of this institution. In economic terms, CIRE model is contrasted with the system applied by the CALPIA in California, as one of the most representative examples of exploitation of prison labor in the United States of America. This confrontation shows common characteristics that de-monstrate the gravity exerted structural conditions on the prison systems, regardless of their particular context and, even, above the norm that informs them. The conclusions pointed out the idea that "the question of prison labour in a context of the paradigm shift" can be read as the disconnect between a legal and institutional model and the structural conditions in which it is inscribed. In this regard, are there explained the reasons why the pursuit of the goal of resocialization may constitute, or a utopia (or "re-tro-topia"), either an aporia.

Full textMore than ever, European metropolises are concerned about their built heritage, its rehabilitation and staging. With the recent postmodern reassessment of the object “old town”, cities are rediscovering their own historic districts, formerly neglected, and are elevating them into a cultural heritage rank. Such promotion does not only appear in the guise of reconstruction of old building stock and its presentation but also by integrating built heritage into marketing and urban development strategies. In an international context, and particularly in light of competition amongst cities, they are increasingly defining themselves through their cultural potential by referring to their origins, their traditions and their built heritage. In essence, old quarters have become showcases of their cities, making them major coordinates of identity and image. It is due to these qualities that they are considered suitable to attract tourists, investments, qualified workforce etc. This study aims at examining the utilisation of urban heritage in the urban development strategies of Vienna and Budapest, two Central European metropolises, both of which boast a vast urban heritage. The study is based on two underlying hypotheses: Firstly, the urban cultural heritage is an intellectual construct of the present, which responds to current needs of society. Secondly, urban heritage can be functionalised as a resource for economic and urban development in postfordist urban policies

Full textThis thesis explores forms of precarity in contemporary capitalism trhough an examination of the fashion world. Through an ethnographic study mong "immaterial" workers in Paris and Brussels (stylists, models, photographers, designers, jopurnalists, makeup artists, and so on), I explore the fashion system by analyzing global circulation of imaginaries, products and workers, as well as productions of subjectivities and the modes of subjugation that are proper to this industry. The restructuring of capitalism of the last half century has made fashion "the dream", namely the ideal projection of capitalist imaginaries, but also a desirable perspective for the subjectivities that capitalism itself produces. The thesis demonstratets that in fashion, imaginary and material production are closely intertwined. In addition, the economies of fashion are based on the rule that the most valued professional services are the least remunerated. The prestige and the symbolic power conferred by the fact of "being there", in fashion, are inseparable from a certain degree of domination and precarity. Going beyond the imaginaries of exceptionality showcased by fashion, it appears from the investigation that the workers themselves combine entrepreneurial spitrit, acceptance and normalisation of domination, and precarity. As in many other sectors of neoliberal production, subjectivity is used in fashion both for the creative component of the work, as well as for managing one's body, emotions, and relationships

Full textIn a context of great economic transformations imposed by globalization, the development of innovations and the financialization of the economy have deeply affected the mono industrial cities of the fordist period. The automotive industry, largely influenced by global economic restructuring, was also deeply touched. In doing so, the urban landscapes of cities dependent on this industry, such as Windsor in Ontario, were built and destroyed by the process of creative destruction, by it’s spatial component. Thereby, the landscape structure of Windsor has been transformed: while important areas in different neighborhoods are waiting to be reinvested, giving rise to abandoned landscapes, other landscapes are created. This research is based on the study of three neighborhoods along the Detroit River that has undergone significant changes in their landscapes. The main objective of this research is to determine how the process of creative destruction takes place in Windsor and what are the spatial impacts. To achieve this goal, observations of the landscape with the creation of the photographic repertoire, accompanied by direct interviews were the preferred methods. Research has determined that the process of creative destruction takes place in contexts of decline, but also growth. With overall economic restructuring of the automotive industry, the landscapes of Windsor have been created, unstructured, and sometimes restructured through the efforts of local actors. Faced with the phasing out of certain areas, these actors had to think about new strategies in response to landscape transformations, like urban neoliberalism. Therefore, we can conclude that creative destruction of the landscape is related to global economic processes and negotiated by local actors.
