Abstract:
Land transportation networks play key role in economic activities by providing access to industries and commercial centers. As integral part of transportation system ports provide essential interchange between sea and land communication to facilitate interaction with global economic hubs. Region’s accessibility to port usually determines its production and growth potential. This paper provides quantitative analysis of roadway based port accessibility to different regions in Saudi Arabia using GIS framework. It also provides analytical basis for comparing relative geographical implications of the ports in the context of regional GDP and population concentration. Using geoprocessing tools like Network Analyst and Spatial Analyst in ArcGIS framework, accessibility contours are assessed. Then spatial indicators are developed to measure interaction between accessibility and economic parameters. Using these indicators, the regions lacking in adequate port accessibility are identified. Further analysis reveals that investment to improve accessibility of these regions may provide beneficial effect on their economic growth. The proposed procedure may be applied in regional planning and economic feasibility studies.

Abstract:
Abstract Currently, there is a rapid increase in demand for the transmission of large amount of data with extreme accuracy, which is usually performed by the antenna system. Therefore, this work aims to design an antenna system that has the potential of improving the performance of such system in terms of reducing the antenna size, and expanding the bandwidth. First, a single-port antenna was designed after calculating the basic requirements and then a comprehensive analysis of the antenna performance was carried out to reach optimum performance. Then, the antenna was connected to two, three, and four ports. Such connection was implemented while maintaining efficiency and magnification in each case within the range for wireless applications. The antenna with four input ports was designed with a 45° angle on a circular circumference around the antenna to prevent interference between the ports. The modified antenna was designed to accommodate wireless communication applications (such as the 5G mobile communications network as well as the future 6G mobile communications network). The experimental results were compared with those obtained from the simulation studio Computer Simulation Technology, which is more compatible with the practical results.

Abstract:
Abstract A new formula for determining the suspended sediment load in Khour Al-Zubair port has been proposed using dimensional analysis. Six cross-sections have been identified in Khour Al-Zubair port at Basrah province, South of Iraq for the purpose of conducting field measurements during the two tidal periods (Neap and Spring). The study involved taking field measurements of the hydraulic and fluid properties, and sediment sampling by section every 2 h to get effective parameters used for developing empirical formula. These parameters include the density of sediment (ρ s), mean velocity (V), hydraulic radius (R h), fall velocity of the particle (W s), median grain size (d 50), the salinity of water (S), water level (W L), the width of the estuary (B), specific gravity (G s), maximum flow depth (D max), and kinematics viscosity (ν). The formula was developed using the statistical analysis using the SPSS program and dimensional analysis method. A good agreement between the loads computed by the suggested formula and the observed data has been attained based on the correlation coefficient value (R = 0.97). The results showed that the average total suspended sediment loads by using the proposed formula is 1288285.464 tons/year.

The author gives examples of in mation security incidents in transport in Russia and worldwide since 2018. Statistical analysis made it possible to conclude that the main motive of cybercriminals in carrying out information attacks is information theft, mostly personal data, including from cloud storage. Social engi-neering and cyber-attacks using malicious software are likely to remain the most popular and successful methods of infiltrating corporate information systems.

Abstract:
Flexibility of Lime Mortar resulting from its good permeability feature through its relatively large interconnected pore structure makes it popular as an old sustainable building material. This characteristic feature enhances its capability to suppress masonry deformation. However, its mechanical strength is weak. To address this shortcoming, cement is added to form a stronger composite. This study, therefore, evaluates the pore structure of the resulting lime-cement composite, with a view to assessing impact and sustainability of the lime’s flexibility in the overall performance of the composite. Adopting equal mix ratio (1:3) of Binder/Aggregate (B/A), mortars were prepared using lime as a lone binder, as well as other five different compositions in the ascending and descending order of lime and cement binders (i.e., 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 2:1 and 3:1). Each composition was assessed in fresh state using Water/Binder ratio, Air Content and Bulk Density. For the hardened state assessments, mechanical characteristics and microstructural features evaluated through six (6) and twelve (12) month curing periods respectively, were considered. Results of the investigation reveal that low cumulative porosity (i.e., summation of the porosities) across the three pore regions of Inter-Nano pores (1 – 10 nm), Super-Nano pores (10 – 100 nm) and Sub-Micro pores (0.1 – 1 µm), for each of the mortars, is observed to be synonymous with low cement content, low Modulus of Elasticity, low (fc/ff), and thus, high flexibility. This observation is supported by high linear coefficient of correlation (R2 = 0.89) for the equation describing both ‘cumulative porosity’ (within the referenced three pore ranges) and cement content. Thus, it could be inferred that despite cement addition with resulting alteration in the pore structure of the composite, presence of lime would retain flexibility property of the composites, with more flexibility in the descending order of cement contents. Considering the impacts of pandemic climate change, growing energy costs and human activities on the environment, this study therefore attempts to promote revival of an old but partially abandoned sustainable lime based mortars, with a view to facilitating improved lime mortar performances, conservation of energy resources and overall protection of the environment.

Abstract:
The aim of this work is to assess, by means of available experimental results and numerical simulations, the possible extension of the range of application of the formula proposed by Ruol et al. (J. Wat. Port, Coast. Ocean Eng., 1, 2013), giving wave transmission for chain-moored -type floating breakwaters. The formula is here applied out of the range used for its calibration and even to other types of FBs. The error between predicted and measured values is described and discussed with reference to the main geometrical variables. It appears that the formula performs fairly well for the box-type FB, but not in cases characterized by very different mooring stiffness compared to the one used for calibration. For instance in case of fixed or tethered FBs, the formula significantly overestimates the wave transmission.

Abstract:
The article deals with the study of the effect that a compound preservative produces on microbiological indicators and shelf life of fresh pork products. The effect of various preservatives on the total viable count and yeast growth in fresh meat during storage was studied. Experimental studies have shown that the compounds of additive a preservative mixture* actively inhibits microorganism growth during the fresh pork chops storage. In the control sample, the number of microorganisms on the seventh day of storage was 12*104 CFU/g, and, in the sample with the compound additive preservative mixture added, it amounted to 0.1*104 CFU/g. The usage of the ready to use preservative mixture allows actively suppressing the yeast reproduction during long-term storage (seven days) of coarsely chopped fresh pork products (250 CFU/g). The optimal method for applying the preservative to fresh pork chops has been determined. Applying the preservative to coarsely chopped fresh meat by simply mixing and massaging (for example, together with spices or marinades) is the most rational method for this product type. Primary and secondary lipid degradation products are considered, and the peroxide and acid numbers of fresh meat products during 30-day storage are determined. After 30 days of storage, a noticeable increase in oxidative processes in the control sample is observed, whereby the end point of the shelf life of coarsely chopped fresh pork products has been chosen.

Abstract:
Abstract PDAC patients have a dismal prognosis with an 11% 5-year survival rate, driven in part by the fact that 90% of patients are diagnosed with metastatic disease. In a cohort of 300 PDAC patients, we observed that patients who had lung-only metastasis had longer overall survival than the majority of patients with metastasis to the liver. We used gene expression data to develop a signature based on gene expression in primary tumors of liver versus lung organotropism, which we called pORG. Our pORG signature predicts long term survival in PDAC patients and reveals unique features of the primary tumor, including increased interferon and immune activity in lung tropic tumors and increased proliferation and replication stress in liver-tropic tumors. To validate our findings, we generated cyclic immunofluorescence multiplex imaging data for a subset of 34 patients. Single cell image analysis revealed B and T cell infiltration and spatial clustering in low pORG/ lung tropic tumors, and markers of replication stress in high pORG patients. Our work suggests unique targetable tumor and microenvironment features linked to organotropism in PDAC. Citation Format: Jennifer Eng, Jason Link, Carl Pelz, Rosalie Sears. Abstract:
The article deals with the semantic motivation of names denoting tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum). It is based on the material recorded in subdialects of European languages as answers to the questionnaire of the Atlas Linguarum Europae and presented in a geolinguistic map. In general, 6motivational groups of names have been established: 1) names based on Nahuatl tomatl, cf. Fr. tomate, Gm. Tomate, Port., It. tomata, Engl., Welsh, Irish, Scots, Manx tomato, Latv. t(u)omāts / t(u)omats / tumāts, Lith. tumãtas, etc.; 2) names based on Nahuatl tomatl with voiced anlaut, cf. Gr., Turk. domata, Alb. domate, Mac. domat, Serb. domatija; 3a) ‘apple of paradise’, cf. Gm. Paradeisapfel, Cr. paradajske, Hung. paradiscom, Cz. paradajka / rajče; 3b) ‘love-apple’, cf. Engl. love-apple / apple of love, Gm. Liebesapfel, Fr. pomme d'amour, It. pomodamore; 3c) ‘small apple’, cf. Cors. pumata, Sard. bomata; 3d) ‘golden apple’, cf. It. pomodoro, Russ., Bruss., Ukr., Pol., Cr. pomidor, Lith. pomidoras / pamidoras / pamidoris, Latv. pamidòrs, etc.; 3e) ‘Frankish apple’, cf. Gr. frango¬milo, Bulg. frenki; 3f) ‘swine-apple’, cf. Kalm. haxan aľmn; 4a) ‘egg-plant’, cf. Bulg. patladžan, Russ., Ukr. baklažan; 4b) ‘Frankish egg-plant’, cf. Gr. frangomɛlindzána; 4c) ‘red(dish) egg-plant’, cf. Bosn. crveni patlidžan; 5a) ‘red tomato’, cf. Bulg. črveno domate; 5b) ‘red cucumber’, cf. Kum. k՚՚yzylbadirdzag; 6) ‘sth. red / pink’, cf. Rum. roşie / roşă. Having examined the attested forms regarding their origin and semantics, the author concludes that the names denoting a tomato plant or its fruit are rich in variants in the Baltic languages. But in some European languages, the tomato has been named after another fruit or vegetable (preferably apple, eggplant, and cucumber). Some phraseological units using the name of tomato are met in colloquial German. Only a few toponyms with the names of tomato have been attested in Latvian toponymy; there are no anthroponyms derived from them.

SUMMARY In Canadian French the definite articles and the pronouns of the third person show irregular loss of /. The same phenomenon occurs in the language used in France, cf. des de illos, de Mas, ça < cela, oui < oïl. Dasselbe gilt fur die iibrigen romanischen Sprachen, vgl. port, o, a, os, as < illum, illam, illos, Mas, aspan. cono < cum illum, ital. mundartl. u < lu, rum. Ceauşescu < Ceauşescul, sowie fur nicht-romanische Sprachen, vgl. engl. won't < will not, much < muchel oder should.

AbstractXYZ is a company engaged in the port sector. To support the company’s business processes, XYZ uses two applications to carry out operational activities, namely the CARTOS application to manage invoices and the Finance application to record company costs and revenues. To produce a cost accounting report, XYZ is still processing and visualizing it manually with data sources from the two applications mentioned earlier. This resulted in quite a long time processing data into information. So that reporting to management cannot be done in real time. Therefore XYZ needs a system that can help management to analyze and manage data into information in real time. The Business Intelligence (BI) method is one of the solutions for company needs, especially in analyzing and providing access to data to help make better decisions. This study discusses the design and implementation of business intelligence solutions ranging from architecture, data warehouse, ETL processes and visualization in the form of a dashboard in accordance with the needs of XYZ. The method used in developing business intelligence dashboards refers to the executive information system life cycle method which consists of justification, planning, business analysis, design, construction, and dissemination. The results of this research are dashboard visualization using the Power BI tool that displays information and knowledge needed in the monitoring process and becomes material to produce management decisions related to cost accounting reports.

Abstract:
Abstract The article compares the exhaust emissions in road conditions of city buses: LNG and Diesel. Both buses met the Euro VI exhaust emission norm. The current strong drive to diversify fuels in Poland and the creation of a large gas port in Świnoujście for LNG imports creates an excellent opportunity to use this fuel, also in road transport. Therefore, the attempt to identify the emission in operation, in first place possible applications, i.e. an LNG bus, comparatively with the emission of a Diesel bus. The operational research carried out concerned such a bus and has not yet been carried out in the country, hence their innovation, also methodological. The conducted research, in particular, was aimed at verifying differences in exhaust emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. The study was carried out on one urban bus route performing trips on consecutive days in similar environmental conditions. The performed tests were not strictly type approval tests but only used for comparative purposes. Hence, it was necessary to determine the compliance factor for the relevant exhaust gas substances, with the use of an evaluation algorithm based on measurement windows. Based on these results, the assumption regarding compliance with the emission requirements for the tested buses was verified in real traffic conditions. The exhaust emission values (emission indicators) determined in this way did not exceed the permissible emission limit values for carbon monoxide, while for nitrogen oxides and non-methane hydrocarbons certain exceedances were found.

Abstract:
Sediments are principal carriers of the trace elements in the hydrosphere. Properties of the sediment (such as grain size, specific surface area and pore volume) decide the concentration level of the pollutant contain in water. The properties of sediment differed in each lake according to the normal geological phenomenon and source of discharge wastewater. The purpose of this study is to investigate the properties and contamination level of the sediment collected from lakes in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Sediment samples are taken from three different lakes; Lake IT, Lake ENG and Lake PK. These locations are selected due to the type of wastewater has been discharged into the lakes which are from colleges and academic buildings. The sediments were tested in terms of physical, chemical properties and contaminant concentration (Pb, P and Cu). Using the contaminant concentration results; the sediment concentration level of the pollutant of each lakes were referred to the Consensus- Based Sediment Quality Guidelines (CBSQG-2003). The dominant grain sizes of the sediments were found in the range of silt/clay; with the size fraction in the range 12.74% to 12.83%. The specific surface areas of sediments were in the range of 16.3 to 22.5 m2/g with a pore size distribution in the range of 20 to 29 mm3/g. The chemical properties show that the pH values are in normal range; pH 7, TOC values in the range of 10.84 to 12.39% and salinity values in the range of 0.05 to 0.06 dS/m. The contaminant concentrations show that the main heavy metal presents in Lake IT, Lake ENG and Lake PK as Lead (Pb) with 0.033 mg/l, 0.036 mg/L and 0.038 mg/L, respectively. According to the CBSQG-2003, due to the concentration of Lead presents in lakes sediment in UPM area, the sediments were categorised as non-polluted.

Abstract:
To investigate the effect of junction strands on microvessel permeability, we extend the previous analytical model developed by Fu et al. (1994, J. Biomech. Eng., 116, pp. 502–513), for the interendothelial cleft to include multiple junction strands in the cleft and an interface between the surface glycocalyx layer and the cleft entrance. Based on the electron microscopic observations by Adamson et al. (1998, Am. J. Physiol., 274(43), pp. H1885–H1894), that elevation of intracellular cAMP levels would increase number of tight junction strands, this two-junction-strand and two-pore model can successfully account for the experimental data for the decreased permeability to water, small and intermediate-sized solutes by cAMP.

Abstract:
The paper presents the study of the poetics of the Japanese genre of hokku in the works by the famous Yakut poet, philosopher and culture expert Ksenophont Dmitrievich Utkin. The features of compliance with the canons of Japanese poetry have been identified: adherence to the basic rules and traditions (stylistic, stanza and compositional criteria), aesthetic principles and categories, semantic structure. The national specifics of mastering the genre, which is manifested in the disclosure of the image, sound pattern, and the desire to express the national perception of the world. The study yielded the conclusion that mastering of hokku in Yakut poetry is primarily based on traditional features. The studied examples are close to the typology of the original in terms of formal and compositional principles: the two-part structure of the work, the stanza and syllabic canon. The poet adheres to the thematic features associated with the description of nature, the world and the state of mind of the lyric hero. A typological similarity between the studied hokku and Japanese poetics is observed in adherence to aesthetic principles (yugen, shiori, engo), the use of seasonal words, vagueness, allegory and symbolism. The need for knowledge of the traditional culture brings the works closer to Japanese poetry. Yakut works are characterized by a special rhyme, the role of alliteration and national interpretation of images, and the material and spiritual components of the Yakut worldview.

Abstract:
The figure of the pedante and its presence in Renaissance culture has been observed and analyzed principally by scholars and historians of 16th century theatrical production, who have delineated the contours of the largely unified character in terms of its physical and performative characteristics on the stage. After Arturo Graf’s discussion of the pedant in Renaissance comedy over 130 years ago, it is only in more recent times that theater scholars have turned their interest towards the character even though the wider cultural context and relevance of its appearance outside of the theater has not been adequately addressed. Nevertheless, the figure of the pedant can be seen as a site in which oppositional trends emerge for the development of the educational and cultural project of the age. In this paper I will discuss the figure of the pedant in relation to the fundamental idea of the humanist and its social role as had been developed by authors in the 14th and 15th centuries, beginning with the exemplar established by the recognized padre dell’ Umanesimo, Francesco Petrarca. The appearance and development of this character not only underscore a change in cultural and literary models, but they also become keys for understanding crucial socio-economic shifts of the Cinquecento

Abstract:
The article deals with the semantic motivation of names denoting beech-tree (Fagus sylvatica), basing on the material recorded in subdialects of European languages as answers to the questionnaire of the Atlas Linguarum Europae and presented in a geolinguistic map. In general, ten motivational groups of names have been established, most important of them being: 1) names based on IE. *bhāg-i̯o-, cf. Engl. beech, Gm. Buche, Sp. haya, Port. faia, It. faggio, Russ., Ukr., Pol., Cz., Bulg. buk, Lith. bùkas, Latv. skābardis / guoba etc.; 2) forms derived from Latin vespices ‘shrub’, cf. Friul.Lad. vespol(a); 3) forms derived from Latin pertica ‘long perch’, cf. Fr. epache; 4) forms derived from Latin cerrus ‘oak’, cf. Rum. terş; 5) names based on Frank. *haistr- ‘young tree or bush’, cf. Fr. hêtre; 6) Hung. bükkfa, a name composed by bükk of obscure origin and meaning and fa ‘tree’; 7) forms derived from IE. *ask ‘ash-tree’, cf. Gr. όζυά, Alb. ah. Having examined the attested forms regarding their origin and semantics, the author concludes that the names to denote a beech-tree or its cognates, elm or box-tree, are rich in variants in the Baltic languages, mostly due to the influence of Standard Latvian or Lithuanian. However, beech-trees growing near Grobiņa are witnesses of ancient contacts between the Baltic and Albanian languages. Some names to denote a beech-tree can be found in Lithuanian phraseology. They frequently appear among both Latvian and Lithuanian toponyms as well as anthroponyms.

Abstract:
The immediate impulse-response of a confined incompressible fluid is characterized by inertance. For a vessel with one inlet and outlet, this is a single quantity; for multiple ports the generalization is a singular reciprocal inertance matrix which acts on the port-impulses to give the corresponding inflows. The reciprocal inertance coefficients are defined by the boundary fluxes of potential flows. Green's identity converts these coefficients to domain integrals of kinetic energy. For a system discretized with finite elements, a third method is proposed for computing reciprocal inertance coefficients which requires only the stiffness matrix and the solution vectors and no numerical differentiation. Abstract:
We developed a time-dependent diffusion model for analyzing the concentration profiles of low-molecular-weight tracers in the interendothelial clefts of the capillary wall that takes into account the three-dimensional time-dependent filling of the surrounding tissue space. The model provides a connecting link between two methods to investigate transvascular exchange: electron-microscopic experiments to study the time-dependent wake formed by low-molecular-weight tracers (such as lanthanum nitrate) on the tissue side of the junction strand discontinuities in the interendothelial cleft of frog mesentery capillaries (R. H. Adamson and C. C. Michel. J. Physiol. Lond. 466: 303-327, 1993) and confocal-microscopic experiments to measure the spread of low-molecular-weight fluorescent tracers in the tissue space surrounding these microvessels (R. H. Adamson, J. F. Lenz, and F. E. Curry, Microcirculation 1: 251-265, 1994). We show that the interpretation of the presence of tracer as an all-or-none indication of a pathway across the junctional strand is likely to be incorrect for small solutes. Large-pore pathways, in which the local tracer flux densities are high, reach a threshold concentration for detection and are likely to be detected after relatively short perfusion times, whereas distributed small-pore pathways may not be detected until the tissue concentrations surrounding the entire vessel approach threshold concentrations. The analysis using this approach supports the hypothesis advanced by Fu et al. (J. Biomech. Eng. 116: 502-513, 1994) that the principal pathways for water and solutes of < 1.0 nm diameter across the interendothelial cleft may be different and suggests new experiments to test this hypothesis.

Abstract:
The inward rectifier K+ channels contain two putative membrane-spanning domains per subunit (M1, M2) and a ‘pore ’ (P) region, which is similar to the H5 domain of voltage-gated K+ channels. Here we have used Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and CD spectroscopy to analyse the secondary structures of synthetic peptides corresponding to the M1, M2 and P regions of ROMK1 in aqueous solution, in organic solvents and in phospholipid membranes. A previous CD study was unable to provide any structural data on a similar P peptide [Ben-Efraim and Shai (1997) Biophys. J. 72, 85–96]. However, our FTIR and CD spectroscopic analyses indicate that this peptide adopts an α-helical structure when reconstituted into dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine vesicles and lysophosphatidyl choline (LPC) micelles as well as in trifluoroethanol (TFE) solvent. This result is in good agreement with a previous study on a peptide corresponding to the pore domain of a voltage-gated K+ channel [Haris, Ramesh, Sansom, Kerr, Srai and Chapman (1994) Protein Eng. 7, 255–262]. FTIR spectra of the M1 peptide in LPC micelles displayed a strong absorbance characteristic of an intermolecular β-sheet structure, suggesting aggregation of the M1 peptide. Sucrose gradient centrifugation was used to separate aggregated peptide from peptide incorporated into micelles in an unaggregated manner; subsequent analysis by FTIR suggested that the M1 peptide adopted an α-helical structure when incorporated into phospholipid membranes. FTIR and CD spectra of the M2 peptide in phospholipids and high concentrations of TFE suggest that this peptide adopts an α-helical structure. The structural data obtained in these experiments have been used to propose a model for the structure of the membrane-associated core (M1-P-M2) of the inward rectifier K+ channel protein.

Abstract:
We previously proposed a two-pathway model for solute and water transport across vascular endothelium (Fu, B. M., R. Tsay, F. E. Curry, and S. Weinbaum. J. Biomech. Eng. 116: 502–513, 1994) that hypothesized the existence of a continuous slit 2 nm wide along tight junction strands within the interendothelial cleft in parallel with 20 × 150-nm breaks in tight junctions. We tested this model by measuring capillary permeability coefficients ( P) to a small solute (sodium fluorescein, radius 0.45 nm), assumed to permeate primarily the 2-nm small pore, and an intermediate-sized solute (FITC-α-lactalbumin, radius 2.01 nm) excluded from the small pore. Mean values of the paired diffusive permeability coefficients, P sodium fluorescein and P FITC-α-lactalbumin, were 34.4 and 2.9 × 10−6 cm/s, respectively, after corrections for solvent drag and free dye ( n = 26). These permeabilities were accounted for by transport through the large-break pathway without the additional capacity of the hypothetical 2-nm pathway. As a further test we examined the relative reductions of P sodium fluorescein and P FITC-α-lactalbuminproduced by elevated intracellular cAMP. Within 20 min after the introduction of rolipram and forskolin, P sodium fluorescein and P FITC-α-lactalbumindecreased to 0.67 and 0.64 times their respective baseline values. These similar responses to permeability decrease were evidence that the two solutes were carried by a common pathway. Combined results in both control and reduced permeability states did not support the hypothesis that a separate pathway across tight junctions is available for solutes with a radius as large as 0.75 nm. If such a pathway is present, then its size must be smaller than that of sodium fluorescein.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction: Development of circulating anti-factor VIII antibodies (inhbitors) is the most serious and challenging complication in the treatment of hemophilia A. Up to 38% of hemophilia patients develop inhibitors with recombinant FVIII (rFVIII) products (Gouw et al. N Engl J Med. 2013; 368:231-239). The presence of inhibitors leads to an increased risk of bleeding, poor physical functioning and quality of life (Benson et al., Eur. J. Haematol. 2012; 88:371-379). Immune tolerance induction (ITI) is the most common method for eliminating inhibitors, historically performed with high dose, and prolonged treatment with plasma-derived (pd), or recombinant FVIII (rFVIII) concentrates. Although ITI for the eradication of inhibitors has become standard of care for hemophilia patients the therapeutic superiority of a particular product type (rFVIII vs. pd-FVIII) has not yet been conclusively demonstrated. In accordance with its role in stabilizing FVIII, the presence of von Willebrand factor (VWF) in pd-FVIII concentrates has been shown to improve the outcome of ITI. Wilate® (Octapharma) is a high-purity human plasma derived complex containing two proteins (VWF and FVIII) in a 1:1 ratio. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Wilate for primary ITI therapy for six patients with severe hemophilia A. Patients and Methods: The case history for six pediatric hemophilia A patients prior to and during primary Wilate ITI was reviewed. For 5/6 patients, inhibitors developed during rFVIII factor replacement therapy. For the sixth patient, inhibitors were detected at the time of hemophilia diagnosis. ITI began once patients achieved an inhibitor titer of less than 10 BU/mL. The ITI dosing regimen ranged from 50-60 IU/Kg of Wilate three times per week to 200 IU/Kg once daily. Inhibitor titers were measured regularly, prior to and during ITI using the Nijmegen-Bethesda assay. The number of port-a-cath infections and bleeding episodes were also monitored. ITI success was defined as: an undetectable inhibitor level (<0.6 BU/mL), FVIII plasma recovery ≥ 66% of predicted, and FVIII half-life ≥6 hours. Results: Wilate ITI was well tolerated in all patients, with no product-related adverse events. All patients had a port-a-cath device inserted for Wilate injections. Two port-a-cath infections occurred during ITI. Five of six patients had poor prognostic factors for ITI outcome. These poor prognostic factors included a high-risk FVIII gene mutation, historical peak inhibitor titer greater than 50 BU/mL, age of ITI onset greater than 6 years, and ITI onset more than 12 months from inhibitor development. The frequency of these poor prognostic factors varied amongst the patients: 1 patient had 4, 1 patient had 2, and 3 patients presented with 1 poor prognostic factor. Despite the presence of these high-risk factors, Wilate was successful at reducing the inhibitor titers to undetectable levels in all patients. Furthermore, inhibitor titers have remained low or undetectable without significant spikes for the duration of treatment. Patient plasma recovery and FVIII half-life results have also indicated that patients are progressing towards successful ITI. Importantly, for 6/6 patients (including 3 patients who had previously been treated with Anti-Inhibitor Coagulant Complex (FEIBA) prophylaxis therapy) - Wilate therapy was successful at reducing the number of bleeding episodes allowing for the cessation of FEIBA prophylaxis. Since commencing Wilate ITI, 6/6 patients have not reported any major bleeding episodes. The improved clinical outcome was perceived by the patients as an improved well-being, and quality of life. Conclusion: Wilate ITI was found to be well tolerated, safe, and successful at reducing inhibitor levels to below the detectable range for six severe hemophilia A patients. Patients experienced no treatment related adverse events, had a low rate of port-a-cath infections, and did not present with any major bleeding episodes while on Wilate ITI. In light of the 3-5 fold increase in overall treatment costs of immune tolerance induction, careful consideration should be given to choice of product (rFVIII versus pd-FVIII) – especially for patients at high-risk of failure. (Dimichele et al. Haemophilia 2004: 10 Suppl 4;140-145). The present data suggest that Wilate, a pd-FVIII product, is effective in managing patients with inhibitors. The compounds were three furoquinoline alkaloids, kokusaginine (1), maculine (2), and flindersiamine (3), two acridone alkaloids, arborinine (4) and 1-hydroxy-3-methoxy-10-methylacridone (5), and the triterpenoid, ß-amyrin (6). Compounds 1–4 are commonly isolated from other Vepris species, compound 5 has been reported before once, from Malagasy Vepris pilosa, while this is the first report of ß-amyrin from Vepris. This combination of compounds has never before been reported from any species of Vepris. We test the hypothesis that Vepris sp. 1 is new to science and formally describe it as Vepris teva, unique in the genus in that the trifoliolate leaves are subsessile, with the median petiolule far exceeding the petiole in length. Similar fleshy-leathery four-locular syncarpous fruits are otherwise only known in the genus in Vepris glaberrima (formerly the monotypic genus Oriciopsis Engl.), a potential sister species, but requiring further investigation to confirm this phylogenetic position. We briefly characterise the unusual and poorly documented Atlantic coast equatorial ecosystem, where Vepris teva is restricted to evergreen thicket on white sand, unusual in a genus usually confined to evergreen forest. This endemic-rich ecosystem with a unique amphibian as well as plants, extends along the coastline from the mouth of the Congo River to southern Rio Muni, a distance of about 1,000 km, traversing five countries. We map and illustrate Vepris teva and assess its extinction risk as Endangered (EN B1ab(iii)+B2ab(iii)) using the IUCN, 2012 standard. Only three locations are known, and threats include port and oil refinery construction and associated activities, with only one protected location, the Jane Goodall Institute’s Tchimpounga Reserve. Initial evidence indicates that the seeds of Vepris teva are dispersed by chimpanzees, previously unreported in the genus.

Abstract:
Performing forensic engineering examinations of electrical accidents is characterized by a significant variety of factual circumstances of a negative event occurrence, extremely large amount of electrical equipment nomenclature and the number of standards for technical and operational regulations of their use. A separate feature of such researches is the high informative nature of fo- rensic examination objects. At the present stage, scientists and forensic practitioners have scientifically substantiated and given a definition to examination object − one of the basic concepts of forensic science. Analysis of the scientific literature and the devel- opments of scientists in this field indicates that there is still insufficient attention paid to research of the source data concept used by a forensic expert while per- forming a comprehensive examination of electrical accidents involving electrical injuries. In order to ensure the proper quality, completeness and correctness of a fo- rensic report according to the results of researches on accidents involving elec- trical injuries; it is necessary to clearly define the content and understanding by a forensic expert of the concept of source data used for research and which are without doubt crucial for its results. The need for a detailed consideration of correlation criteria of object and source data concepts, the nature of their relationship is determined by the inte- grated nature of applied knowledge in this case: in the fields of electrical engi- neering, occupational safety, life safety, etc. The article outlines the results of research on relationship and correlation of the object of examination and source data concepts, the author’s definition for the concept of examination source data is suggested. It has been established that the completeness and validity of a forensic re- port and its legal significance for investigation and court directly depend on the completeness and accuracy of the provided data on the circumstances of the accident, which serve as source data for a forensic expert.

Abstract:
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the leading cause of neurological disability in young adults, affecting some two million people worldwide. Traditionally, MS has been considered a chronic, inflammatory disorder of the central white matter in which ensuing demyelination results in physical disability [Frohman EM, Racke MK, Raine CS (2006) N Engl J Med 354:942–955]. More recently, MS has become increasingly viewed as a neurodegenerative disorder in which neuronal loss, axonal injury, and atrophy of the CNS lead to permanent neurological and clinical disability. Although axonal pathology and loss in MS has been recognized for >100 years, very little is known about the underlying molecular mechanisms. Progressive axonal loss in MS may stem from a cascade of ionic imbalances initiated by inflammation, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and energetic deficits that result in mitochondrial and cellular Ca2+ overload. In a murine disease model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mice lacking cyclophilin D (CyPD), a key regulator of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (PTP), developed EAE, but unlike WT mice, they partially recovered. Examination of the spinal cords of CyPD-knockout mice revealed a striking preservation of axons, despite a similar extent of inflammation. Furthermore, neurons prepared from CyPD-knockout animals were resistant to reactive oxygen and nitrogen species thought to mediate axonal damage in EAE and MS, and brain mitochondria lacking CyPD sequestered substantially higher levels of Ca2+. Our results directly implicate pathological activation of the mitochondrial PTP in the axonal damage occurring during MS and identify CyPD, as well as the PTP, as a potential target for MS neuroprotective therapies.
