Full textThe study of species and genetic richness of crops pest vector of plant viruses in a biological context of invasion in continental environment, is essential for understanding the mechanisms that underlay viral emergencies in sub-Saharan Africa. The cryptic Bemisia tabaci species complex is composed of many species, including the Sub-Saharan group of species that are subservient to cassava in Africa. They are directly involved in the vection of many viruses causing cassava mosaic disease (CMD) or the cassava brown streak diseases (CBSD). These diseases cause severe yield losses in cassava crops, which are among the leading starchy root crops in the African continent. Unfortunately very few studies on the vector of these diseases had been made in numerous African countries where the disease is of great concern. The diversity of whiteflies species on cassava in some countries remains broadly unknown. Furthermore, little information is available on the gene flow within species and between genetic subgroups recently described within these species. It is in this context that we conducted a genetic study on 898 samples from Central Africa and 667 samples from Cameroon using nuclear (microsatellites) and mitochondrial (COI) markers. These analyzes have allowed the characterization of the genetic variability at the intra- and inter-species level. The possible effect of factors such as the host plant and the geographical origin of analyzed individuals, often reported as genetic structuring factors in the species B. tabaci were also tested for (i) determining the nature of the species in circulation in these countries, (ii) understand the distribution of these populations, (iii) assess the extent of their diversity and genetic, structure, and (iii) consider the contribution of this knowledge in the management of whitefly populations in Central Africa. We were able to describe the presence of 6 species of B. tabaci complex and 5 subgroups of a species (SSA1) of this complex in CAR and Cameroon (SSA1-SG1, SG2-SSA1, SSA1- SG1 / 2, SSA1-SG3, SSA2, SSA3, MED, MEAM1 and IO). The abundances of whitefly populations on cassava coincide with levels of "outbreak" in all sampled areas, highlighting the status of these countries as in an epidemic area. This thesis has allowed also highlighting the role of the species SSA1 and its subgroup -SG1 with a specific haplotype P9H9 / P18F5 in the proliferation and expansion of the African cassava mosaic in Central Africa. Populations of this species and this particular haplotype were detected as dominant and polyphagous in sampled countries. Similarly, in Cameroon, it was emphasized that the invasion and overgrowth of this haplotype could be achieved through a process of invasion by hybridization with resident populations. Current data on the distribution of the dominant haplotype in both countries tend to show that not only the Cameroon and the CAR are affected by this wave of invasion but could be also in the neighboring countries

Full textTerrapins are one of the most endangered vertebrate groups of the world, with almost half of the more than 300 extant species threatened with extinction, particularly following biological invasions. This study was conducted to investigate parasite host-switching from the invasive American Red-eared slider, Trachemys scripta elegans, to native freshwater turtles in natural environments, and their impact to biodiversity. From DNA barcoding analysis based on the sequencing of the Cytochrome c Oxidase I gene (COI) of parasites collected from the Mediterranean pond terrapin (Mauremys leprosa) in Southern Europe, the inferred Minimum Evolution tree and p-distance comparisons of closely related haplotypes revealed a greater polystome richness within M. Leprosa than expected, suggesting that host switching may take place in natural environments. Results also indicate that T. S. Elegans would serve as a carrier for a variety of polystomes that usually infest American turtles in their home range. These parasites would be transmitted to M. Leprosa in its home range. The thesis also includes three other studies, the first one involves a risk assessment approach that was developed using the Relative Risk Model (RRM) method to assess the viability of the native M. Leprosa terrapin in a small river of southern France, the second one examines the diversity of terrapin haemogregarines (Protozoa: Apicomplexa: Haemogregarinidae) in South Africa and the fourth one investigates polystome egg production under changing environmental conditions

Full textThis thesis is about the paradox of the so called "advanced" colonized African elites that celebrate french colonisation and that mobilize through the creation of political parties and the defense of colonial ideology they were taught in colonial schools for the purpose of domesticating endigenous populations who impatiently put up with colonial oppression and are at the same time tempted by rebellion. Hence forth the political mobilisation of colonized masses by the "advanced" elites becomes a challenge due to the paradoxical nature of the political at stake. These values that function in this case as the powerful ideological and political determinism are analysed from the standpoint of the political vocabulary of the era. At first, the training of this "advanced" elite in french colonial schools, its aspirations to the political and cultural assimilation by the colonizer who is seen as a model, its denial of any political independence for the colony are exposed. In Côte d'Ivoire, the personality of Houphouët-Boigny, the charismatic leader is predominant. Then the analysis deals with the "indigenes" subdued with the attempt to encompass the political aspirations and their hidden or expressed claims. Third, the impossibility of interactions meant to mobilize "advanced" elites and "indigenes" has been underlined because of the incompatibility of their political aspirations and the profound contempt of the colonized elite toward "indigenes". But ultimately the "advanced" elite of cote d'ivoire will be compelled to assume the political independence imposed by a french colonial power confronted with numerous rebellions colonized masses in Asia and North Africa and which can no longer achieve its old imperial dream. Throughout this thesis the official history that portrays Houphouët-Boigny and his party as hereon anti-colonialists is questionable considering the archives

Full textMy work is related to the ecological study (through morphological measures and experiment of forced layings) and genetical study (with microsatellites markers) of two species of Megastigmus, whose larvae are seed consumers of conifers. M. Spermotrophus is a pest of the Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). This insect is come from North America and it has been introduced in Europe and New Zealand along with his host used for reforestration. M. Schimitscheki is a pest of the cedars (Cedrus spp. ), originated from minor Asia and introduced recently into the south of France. The morphological gradients of the insects M. Spermotrophus in North America, not found in Europe, are explained by the morphological variations of consumed seeds. These results, supported by those of the genetic study, show that M. Spermotrophus have been introduced several times from various North-American sources. These gradients led to question us on the course of the first stages of the invasion. Our study show that the fitness of large females is more significant than those of the females of small size (in term of number of eggs and quality of attacked seeds). The large morphological variation of M. Spermotrophus probably facilitated their invasion in new environment. The genetic study of M. Schimitscheki showed that the invasion in France comes from a single and recent event of introduction. The current success of expansion of this insect, in spite of the existence of a competitor of the same genus, results from the earlier emergence of M. Schimitscheki than its competitors and of its particular dynamic of prolonged diapause
