Abstract:
Despite many music classrooms welcoming popular musics in striving towards an inclusive and democratic education, there has been relatively little research into teachers’ decisions regarding which popular musics are included and which are excluded from classroom activities. This is of particular interest taking into account arguments that the norms and values associated with some popular musics or songs exist in conflict with the ideals and ideologies of formal schooling. Through interviews with five Finnish music teachers, this article explores the identification and navigation of “problematic” popular musics in school contexts. Teachers noted that four musical features: lyrics, imagery, musical mood and emotional affect, influenced their constructions of popular musics and their repertoire selections for students. This study suggests that popular repertoire decisions are ethically, ideologically, and politically loaded, and that welcoming students’ own musics does not necessarily result in a more inclusive, democratic classroom culture.

Abstract:
AbstractAlthough the pace of life is very high today, young people spend free time among applications and electronic devices, but theatrical performances are relatively popular nonetheless. Theaters to appeal to young people should use online tools as a basic form of advertising. One of the most popular forms of e-marketing is the search engine SEM. The research question was formulated in the form: do the theaters advertise in paid search results PPC? To answer this question, we analyzed the search results on Google, including AdWords ads, among Polish theaters for popular keywords. By analyzing the results obtained, it can be said that definitely theaters do not use PPC as an advertising tool. Among the popular keywords only 5 theaters were identified using this form, which represents less than 3% of all the theaters in Poland. The reasons for low popularity are the high costs and the lack of advertising due to the relatively large number of contemporary theater customers.

Abstract:
Abstract Mistakes, printing defects, reused woodcuts and low-quality paper are often the result of strategies enabled by printers and publishers to offer printed material at a low price while balancing profit/loss in their daily activities. It was precisely due to these strategies that a wider class of population could read, sing, learn and enjoy life in early modern Europe. This essay illustrates the preliminary results of a comparative analysis aimed at investigating the production phase of cheap books and prints all over Europe. With a focus on editorial strategies, printing practices and materials commonly adopted and used in these publications, it demonstrates that European publishers and printers followed very similar patterns while producing cheap products.

It is an unfortunate fact that children have less and less free time now because they live a busy life. Several studies confirm that it is extremely important that we do leisure activities which have a positive impact and active leisure activities should come into prominence. Methods: Our study examined the leisure and sports habits of physical education and non-physical education students (N=114). We used a questionnaire, and we also made correlation examinations. The results were analyzed by using SPSS software. Results: The results show 14-18 year old students have an average of 2-3, 3-4 hours of free time, in which both active and passive recreational activities come to the front. 83.3% of respondents do some form of sport, which is not surprising since many are in physical education, but it is also a promising result, because sport has many positive effects. The most popular sports are ball games, especially football. It is not surprising the internet is very popular as a leisure activity among young people. Our results also illustrate that it is worth drawing attention to the right way of spending free time in childhood and that children need to love sports to integrate them into their lives.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to investigate the presence of popular music within the area of preschool education. To this end, an online survey was conducted with a sample of 115 Polish preschool teachers. This allowed for an analysis of teachers’ opinions on using popular music in various didactic activities, and on the educational value of such music. The results reveal that popular music – marginalized or even excluded from curricula for years – is present in preschools and offers, in the opinions of the teachers, educational value. Genres of this kind of music appear in different educational situations, sometimes as the ‘background’ for teaching and educational activities, among which two forms of musical activity are predominant, namely, motor activities with music, and singing. Analysis of the outcomes leads to a reflection on the necessity of expanding and diversifying educational offers in preschools and points to the fact that further studies on the application of popular music in the early stages of education and on the reception of popular music by children are needed.

The appearance in popular prints of various characters and activities from the popular festive culture, scenes from popular theatricals, parodies of sundry rites and proceedings, and so forth attest to the fact that this culture of popular humor was thriving in the early eighteenth century.

Abstract:
Leisure activities are important in older adults’ life. With the higher mobility and internationalization of population, the leisure behavior and habits of older adults in different countries have become a popular topic among international scholars. This study was to compare the different leisure activities of older adults in two countries—the US and China—to discuss the possible reasons for the differences from traditional and social-cultural aspects. The sample data (192 Chinese aged over 60) was collected in a metropolis in China—Hangzhou—and was compared with data undertaken by Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) published in American Time Use Survey (ATUS). We found that older adults in the US and China spend similar daily leisure time on average; watching TV and walking are the most popular choices of indoor and outdoor leisure activities, respectively, by both Americans and Chinese. Surfing the Internet, communicating with others (indoor) and traditional activities (leisure activities from ancient China, like Taiji, sword dancing, etc.), and physical exercises (outdoor) are the second most popular choices of Chinese older adults; while socializing, reading, working out, and using sports technology equipment for outdoor exercising are popular among older adults in the US. Possible reasons for the differences were discussed from individual differences and collectivist cultures, independent and dependent habits, reliance on family, early education, and the value of young mentality versus conservative spirit.

Abstract:
The food industry is characterized by a constant increase in value. The purpose of this study is to identify the most popular marketing forms used by the analyzed enterprises, which were food producers selling online among the local community and identification of the correlation of the analyzed variables with the age of companies. The survey was carried out with the use of the CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) method, and the research tool was a questionnaire. The Chi-square statistics was used to examine the dependencies of individual variables and V-Cramer coefficient was used to identify the strength of the correlation. The obtained results and their analysis enable to conclude that there is a strong relation between the number of encountered problems in conducting online sales and the period of the company’s existence. The relationship (with a moderate strength) between sources of marketing inspirations used in e-stores and the company’s age was also confirmed. Furthermore, it was noticed that the number of marketing tools increases with the period of the company’s existence. Sales promotion, social media marketing and website positioning were indicated among the most popular tools.

Abstract:
The thesis addresses the issue of functioning of philosophy in popular culture. The representative example for this problem is literature popularizing philosophy. The major historical determinants of the idea of propagating and disseminating philosophy have been indicated. An analysis of propaedeutic literature of philosophy has been carried out on the basis of the following criteria: history, selected issues, critical and systematic thinking, orientation toward the method/style of philosophizing. The main goal of the thesis is to attempt to explain the importance of all introductions to philosophy aimed at strengthening popular culture. The last decades are characterized by varied proposals in this regard, which the presented paper tries to discuss in detail. The convention of contemporary postmodern formation (homogenization, universal accessibility, universality) seems to foster these kinds of activities.

Oxidative reactions are vital but also cause important stresses and cellular damages resulting in cancers, cardiovascular or neurodegenerative diseases. Antioxidant secondary metabolites from plant can be mobilized for the cell defense and their main source is precisely the food intake such as vegetables, fruits or beverages. Screening natural active metabolites in plants requires different analytical techniques among which mass spectrometry became one of the most popular, not just because of its ability to provide structural information on involved molecules but also because this technique belongs to the arsenal of diagnostic tool for the determination of biological activities.

Abstract:
Popular culture integrates people in diverse settings. Individuals share ideas through materials they use, including food, dresses, movies, magazines, and holiday spots. In the past, people set for pilgrimage to holy sites; these days, they go on trekking through hills. Pilgrimages to consecrated sites have been replaced by people's journey to discotheque, fashion center and shopping complex in the modern time corporate world. What binds them together is the transformation of consciousness in line with the journey from the terrestrial to the celestial sphere. Specific human activities, including pilgrimage and business trip become popular culture when people make them significant parts of their lives. Sound and images of disco, jazz, hip-hop, and pop-rock have entered the streets and hotels equally in cities of the industrial world, from Lhasa to London, Karachi to Kathmandu, and Tokyo to New York, irrespective of their cultures and ethnic backgrounds. In today’s world of saturated media presence, images and icons of heroes and legends, motivated by commercial and popular appeal, are circulated with a greater speed, becoming simultaneously a shared mythic currency and continuity, the modern world embodiment of silk road business, and thus, crossing the East-West divide.

Abstract:
This study investigates the funding of popular music education (PME) in Wales at a time when the Welsh government is examining its current Music Service provision. Our research considers the potential impact of this move on PME in Wales, alongside analysis of the availability of state-funded PME across the four UK nations. Music curricula and funding have historically favoured western art music (WEAM), with PME often happening in more informal settings. However, this situation has changed in recent years, with both state and private funders now providing more support for PME in Wales. Our research includes interviews with both funders and grantees offering PME activities across the country, finding that the terminology used to describe PME varies widely between organizations. We also observe that Welsh organizations face challenges in both applying for and receiving funding.

Abstract:
Abstract This article seeks to evaluate whether the fifth ideological filter presented in the Herman-Chomsky propaganda model in 1988 is detected when researching the activities of the online popular entertainment industry and its principles, and to what degree these activities contribute to the spread of prevailing political narratives in the West. The research investigates three popular online entertainment culture websites, whose content is evaluated based on the presence of prevailing Western narratives, and whether they are presented positively (approvingly) or negatively (disapprovingly). The results of the study reveal that although political narrative structures are detected while researching cultural content in popular online culture, they do not play a major role in the overall content, and the contribution to the spread of narratives depends on the editorial policies of the websites, and the forms of the published popular culture content.

Abstract:
The study of children’s play activities has not only been historically trivialized, but numerous widely held misconceptions about kids, their play, folklore and popular culture continue to persist today despite evidence to the contrary. For example, some adults believe that mass media and popular culture has contributed to the decline of kids’ traditional play activities, while others argue that traditional play objects are being replaced by “media culture artifacts”; however, the child-centred fan-play research I present in this paper reveals that popular culture encourages and activates children’s traditional and creative competences, rather than destroy them. The Harry Potter “phenomenon”, as a contested site where youth struggle for visibility and power, serves as the case study for this paper. Based on ethnographic observation of several local events, surveys, and interviews with child and teenage fans of Harry Potter, I examine several emergent, participatory, fan-play activities (including costuming, role-playing, make-believe and spells) and discuss the many ways children manipulate, appropriate, adapt and combine popular culture and folklore, using both creativity and tradition as expression of their lives, identities and power struggles. I conclude by discussing the heart of contemporary children’s culture and play – the conservative/creative nature of children, hybrid play forms and the activation of traditional and creative competencies in the face of popular culture influences.
