Abstract:
This study assessed information needs of final year diploma students and the aspects explored were the adequacy, relevance, access and challenges faced in the use of the information resources. The study was limited to Kitale polytechnic library and the focus was the information that students seek to satisfy their information needs. The theory adopted for this study was the Principle of Least Effort that was developed by George Kengsley and explored in a study of library use of graduate students by Zao Lang. The independent variable was information needs and library user satisfaction was the dependent variable. Access and use of information resources, information literacy level and staff skills and competencies were the intervening variables. A descriptive research design was adopted to describe the level of students’ information needs and use of the library. Qualitative method was used to collect textual data and quantitative method was used to collect numerical data. The target population of 426 library staff members and final year diploma students based on the polytechnic management records was purposively sampled for study. A sample size of 68 participants was selected for study. The main data collection tools were a structured questionnaire and an interview schedule which targeted students and key informants (library staff) respectively. A pilot study was conducted at Eldoret National Polytechnic. This involved four library staff members and four diploma students who were in their final year of study. Validity was sought by use of expert knowledge in the field of information science to ascertain accuracy of the research instruments and the split half method was used to achieve reliability of the instruments and information collected. The researcher used interview to collect data from the library staff and questionnaires were employed to collect data from the sampled students. Qualitative data was analyzed thematically while quantitative data was analyzed to generate percentages, frequency distribution tables and charts. The results established that majority of students need information for academic purposes while others use it for other information related requirements. The study also revealed that the library collection does not adequately cater for the information needs of students and it was further established that most of the library information resources are rarely relevant to students’ information needs. The study concludes that most polytechnics are not keen on issues related to limited resources, staffing and the quality of information resources and services which negatively affect students in the library. The study recommended that polytechnic policy developers should formulate library policies that are not only academically inclined but also aimed at promoting other information related purposes. The study also recommended that the Institutional management should increase library allocation of resources to ensure improved equipping of a balanced library collection that addresses the diverse information needs of students. The study further recommended that polytechnic library management should enhance its acquisition policy to help acquire information resources from publishers that are more relevant to students’ education and courses of study. The study should be useful to TVET department of the Ministry of Education in their quality assurance programs to formulate policies for polytechnics that maintain high standards of libraries and quality information services for students. The study further recommended that another study should be undertaken to explore more on the use of Wi-Fi in the provision of information services for polytechnic students; an area that deems necessary based on the studies that have been highlighted in this research.

Abstract:
Background: While medical and polytechnic education systems seem dissimilar in approach, they both share a certain level of difficulty. After graduating, polytechnic students find easy employment in national or multinational companies, whereas medical students are presented with more job opportunities abroad. The purpose of the study was to compare students’ satisfaction with training and career preferences from a technical and a medical perspective. The methods were as follows: the study participants were divided in two samples (polytechnic and medical undergraduates) and asked to fill in a satisfaction questionnaire regarding their professional training. In addition, they were invited to express options about the intended future career. Results: we found no differences between the two samples regarding the participants’ satisfaction with teaching staff and labs. Polytechnic students have more Ph.D. opportunities while medical students were more involved with participation in conferences. Satisfaction with lectures and practical projects was significantly higher among medical students. Conclusions: Both polytechnic and medical students rate their training as satisfying, and half of them consider leaving the country.

<p class="apa">Soft skills are some of the skills needed to ensure that graduates fulfill the needs of the job market. Until 2010, almost 30% of unemployed graduates in Malaysia are technical graduates and one third comes are graduates from polytechnic. Most engineering graduates are proficient in technical skills but lack in soft skills. The lack of relevant knowledge among lecturers in order to identify appropriate ways and methods in the process of teaching and learning is one of the causes of lack in soft skills application. This study aims to identify the suitable teaching methods for the application of soft skills in the engineering programs for engineering students in Malaysian polytechnics. 488 students and 332 lecturers in engineering courses at the polytechnic had been questioned using questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that there is a relationship between the level of application of soft skills element with the teaching &amp; learning methods used by lecturers. Based on these relationships, researchers had produced <em>SoSTeM </em>model as the model of application of soft skills for engineering students. Abstract:
This study is aimed at finding out: (1) the level of effectiveness of the teaching implementation at a polytechnic education institution viewed from the interrelatedness of the components of context, input, process, and product, and (2) the constraints in the teaching implementation at the institution. This study used the Contex Input Process Product (CIPP) model from Stufflebeam. The data were collected using a questionnaire, interview guide, and related docu-ments. The subjects of the evaluation were the students, lecturers, and the top management staff of the departments at the polytechnic. The data were analyzed using a quantitative descriptive method. The effectiveness of the learning program is determined based on the results of the prototype verification in the Glickman quadrant. The results of the analysis show that the teaching program implementation at the polytechnic viewed from the inter-relatedness of context, input, process, and product is considered effective enough. The constraints in the implementation of teaching at the polytechnic are in teaching planning, implementation of semester teaching plans, curriculum, and infrastructure as well as facilities. Those constraints create other barriers to the achievement of learning outcomes, both academic and non-academic.

Abstract:
Purpose: India’s Polytechnics are a fundamental part of its (vocational) education and training system but are largely ignored in VET research. Understanding the status quo and potential of India’s (vocational) education landscape requires an understanding of the role played by the Polytechnics, particularly in view of the Indian government’s major efforts to implement a functioning VET system. Because little is known about the function and embeddedness of the Polytechnics the article therefore aims to examine how polytechnics are embedded in the Indian education and training system and what functions they perform for the actors within the system. Methods: The article begins by describing the systemic embeddedness of Polytechnics in the Indian education system and demonstrates their role and function in relation to a range of stakeholder groups (individuals, employers, society and the economy). Problem-centred face-to-face interviews Interviews were conducted with the principals of 14 Polytechnics in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai, among other cities. Semi-standardized interview guidelines were used to conduct the interviews. The interviews were analyzed by qualitative content analysis. Results: The results show that polytechnics perform various functions in the Indian education system. The Polytechnics teach both theoretical and practical skills, which is a special feature of the Indian system at this level. Qualification takes place at an intermediate level, which means that graduates have the opportunity to enter a company after graduation, where they can hold a kind of supervisor position. It is precisely these employees that are increasingly being sought by Indian companies. In addition, polytechnics provide a pathway to higher education, so students can use the opportunity to switch to a college once they have their diploma at the Polytechnic. Furthermore, the Polytechnics offers its graduates a good opportunity to become self-employed through the wide range of specializations and the practice-oriented skill development. In addition, the Polytechnics offer numerous opportunities to promote socially disadvantaged groups. Conclusion: The survey findings illustrate the importance of Polytechnics to the various stakeholder groups, demonstrating their “multidimensional bridging function” within the Indian education and training system.

Students as an intellectual group should be able to be pattern for the younger generation, for example to behave honestly and responsibly. In the making of writing products, students must have an honest attitude in making writing products. To create student's honest behavior cannot be separated from the role of the institution to form a culture of honest behavior by not doing plagiarism against the work of others. This is the reason of the author to make a study with the title Students Awareness on the Regulation of Intelectual Patent Rights on Their Writting Products (A Case Study on the Students of State Polytechnic of Madiun)Based on the principal issues stated above, the purpose of this legal research are:To know whether or not the students of State Polytechnic of Madiun have an awareness on the regulation of Intelectual Patent Rights On Scientific WritingTo determine what factors influence the level of regulation awareness of students State Polytechnic of Madiun to Copyright on Scientific WritingResearch method used in this research is empirical sociological approach method that have intention to observe how is the reaction and interaction happened when system norm (law) work in the society that is to know whether the students of State Polytechnic of Madiun already have an awareness of law to the Intellectual Patent Right of Scientific Writing and to know what factors may give influence to their level of law awareness of copyright on Scientific WritingBased on the above discussion about students 'legal awareness of intellectual property rights of copyrights on paper case study of Polytechnic State student of Madiun, it can be concluded that the students' legal awareness of copyright rights of writing is still low, indicated by the number of students who know about knowledge IPR / Copyright is still small. The copyright infringement is still committed, i.e., taking photocopies of ordinary and reasonable regardless of the sanctions or rules, then in the case of quoting other people's scientific papers or books, the awareness to include the source of the quotation is still low.Regarding the factors behind the level of law awareness of the students of State Polytechnic of Madiun on the copyright of the paper, the first factor of knowledge and understanding of law, as a whole the students have a low level of knowledge and legal understanding, can be seen from the two aspects contained in it that is about knowledge rules or laws governing and their aims and objectives. Many respondents who only know one of them, know the rules governing, but do not know the purpose of the rule, vice versa. The second concerning legal attitude and legal behavior, most of the students' legal attitude is good, but still many are not good, due to cultural habit factor in the environment and influenced by friends around.

The turnover rate lowering of lecturers was caused by such efforts as the organizational commitment like training and development, compensation done by the management of Bengkalis Polytechnic to deal with problems related to turnover intention. The present research sought to find out and investigate the effect of training and development, compensation and work specification both simultaneously and partially on the turnover intention of the lecturers at Bengkalis Polytechnic to know the function of which independent variable was the most dominant to affect the turnover intention. The method was descriptive; whereas, the population included all 58 lecturers at Bengkalis Polytechnic. Using a saturated sampling technique, all population became the sample. The data were collected using a field study and library research such as observation, interview and questionnaire. To determine the degree of correlation and the effect of an independent variable on the dependent variable, a multiple linear regression model was used. The hypotheses were tested using a statistical analysis. The results show that the multiple correlation coefficient (R) was 0.799 with α > 0.05 and the determination coefficient (R2) was 58.6% meaning that 58.6% of the training and development, compensation and work specification had an effect on the turnover intention of the lecturers at Bengkalis Polytechnic. The Significance effect of the training and development, compensation and work specification on the turnover intention could be indicated that the value of F count was smaller than F table at alpha level t = 5%. The results indicates that F count = 27.854 was bigger than F table = 2.5397 at significance level α smaller than 0.05. From the calculation, null hypothesis was rejected meaning that training and development, compensation, and work specification had a significant effect on the turnover intention of the lecturers at Bengkalis Polytechnic. Partial test indicates that t – value of training and development variable was 3.670, professional variable was 3.39. This indicated that training and development and compensation had an effect on turnover intention of the lecturers.
