Abstract:
Palm wine is a very important alcoholic beverage whose consumption is limited because it spoils easily. The study was designed to isolate Acetobacter aceti from palm wine, then extract, purify and characterize alcohol dehydrogenase (AD) from the A. aceti. Muller Hilton agar was used as medium for the growth of A. aceti for 48 h. The cells were harvested and subjected to ultrasonication using 500 watt ultrasonicator. Enzyme assay was carried out in both the supernatant and pellet. The enzyme was precipitated by polyethelene glycol 6000 while gel filtration was used for purifying the enzyme. The effects of pH, temperature and substrate concentration on AD were evaluated. The isolated A. aceti was gram negative, rod shaped, catalase positive, oxidase negative and was able to oxidize acetic acid to CO2 and H2O. Triton X-100 (0.3%) was the most effective concentration in solubilizing the protein (AD), while 15% polyethelene glycol 6000 was the most effective concentration for the precipitation of AD. An optimal pH of 5 was obtained with an optimal temperature of 50 °C. The most appropriate to solubilize and precipitate AD were 0.3% triton X-100 and 15% polyethelene glycol 6000 respectively, while AD activity was reduced under acidic pH, as well as for low and high temperatures.

Abstract:
Living mulches offer a low-input alternative to achieve weed control while minimizing herbicide applications, decreased fertilizer leaching, insect and nematode management. and improved soil texture. A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of a Rhodes Grass (Chloris gayana cv. Katambora) living mulch on the growth and productivity of ten eggplant. Solanum melongena, cultivars grown under fertigation. The living sod was established at the Univ. Hawaii Waimanalo Experiment Station in June 1992. Soil analysis was taken before experiment initiation. Ten eggplant cultivars were transplanted on both living-mulch and control (woven-polyethelene mulch) plots on 4 March 1993. Weekly or bi-weekly harvests were conducted for six months. beginning on 19 May 1993. In addition plant height and canopy dimensions were determined on 16 April. and 10 Nov. Plant growth was monitored throughout the experiment. Soil samples were taken from the eggplant rhizosphere, hare-ground and in Rhodes grass monoculture, for nematode count determinations. Soil samples were also taken for nutrient determination after completion of the experiment. Overall yields were greater in the polyethelene mulch than in the living mulch plots. A differential response was observed on the response of cultivars to cropping system. However the most vigorous cultivars performed well in both systems. The living mulch system showed potential for nematode management in eggplant agroecosystems.

Abstract:
Background: Exosomes are ubiquitous extracellular nanovesicles secreted from almost all living cells that are thought to be involved in several important cellular processes, including cell–cell communication and signaling. Exosomes serve as a liquid biopsy tool for clinical and translational research. Although many techniques have been used to isolate exosomes, including ultracentrigation, size-exclusion chromatography, and immunocapturing-based techniques, these techniques are not convenient, they require expensive instrumentation, and they are unhandy for clinical samples. Precipitation techniques from available commercial kits that contain polyethelene glycol (PEG) are now widely used, but these kits are expensive, especially if a large number of biological samples are to be processed. Objective: the purpose of this study is to compare and optimize the efficacy of different concentrations of PEG with two commercial kits ExoQuick (SBI) and Total Exosome Isolation (TEI) from Invitrogen in human plasma. Methods and Materials: we determined exosome quantity, size distribution, marker expression, and downstream application. Results: among the precipitation methods, we found the size of particles and concentrations with 10–20% PEG are similar to ExoQuick and better than TEI. Interestingly, we detected cfDNA with ExoQuick and 10–20% PEG but not TEI and 5% PEG. Moreover, 10% PEG detection of miR-122 and miR-16 expression was superior to ExoQuick and TEI. Furthermore, in proteomics results it also found the identified proteins better than commercial kits but there was a high level of contamination of other proteins in serum. Conclusions: together, these findings show that an optimal concentration of 10% PEG serves as a guide for use with clinical samples in exosome isolation for downstream applications.

Abstract:
This study covers the effect of ferrous chloride (FeCl2) concentration on the formation of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) via the precipitation method. IONPs with appropriate surface functionalization were synthesized in order to obtain a stable colloidal IONPs (ferrofluid) for the conjugation process. The electrostatic repulsion using percloric acid (HClO4) and steric stabilization using silane polyethelene glycol (SiPEG) were generated. The optimum concentration of FeCl2was at 0.3 M. From the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image, the size of IONPs obtained was ~13 nm. The stable IONPs were then conjugated to the antibody and tested in the lateral flow immunoassay as the labelling agent. The conjugated IONPS with the antibody was proven sensitive to the Brugian Filiarisis disease.

Abstract:
AbstractWe conducted laboratory experiments assessing the relationship between commercial greenhouse polyethylene coverings and bumble bee, Bombus impatiens Cresson (Hymenoptera: Apidae), activity and loss from ventilation systems. Bee activity was measured in four small greenhouses, each with a different polyethylene covering. Bee activity was quantified using photodiode tunnels mounted in the hive entrances. Contrary to commercial greenhouse experiments, there was no difference in bee activity based on covering type. There was a positive linear relationship between temperature in the experimental greenhouses and bee activity. The potential for bee loss through open ventilation systems for five covering types was quantified using a Y-maze decision box. Bees were more attracted to direct light than to light transmitted through ultraviolet (UV) blocking coverings, whereas bees were equally attracted to direct light as they were to UV-transmitting coverings. These experiments suggest that greenhouses with UV-transmitting plastics may result in less bee loss through ventilation systems.

Abstract:
The polymer PGA composite was prepared by chemical oxidative method of polyethylene glycol, anthranilic acid with ammonium persulphate in oxalic acid medium. The resulted polymer was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. The performance of the polymer polyglycol anthranilic acid composite (PGA) as corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1 M HCl has been studied by weight loss, potentiodynamic and impedance spectroscopy methods. The maximum IE was found to be 97%. Experimental results were fitted to Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Electrochemical studies confirmed the inhibitive nature of the PGA composite and also the mixed nature of the inhibitor. The polymer is found to be highly efficient non-toxic and environmentally safe.

Abstract:
Human thyroid peroxidase (TPO), the key enzyme in thyroid hormone synthesis, can be produced in active form in the High Five insect cell line and when purified from the cell culture medium is soluble at concentrations of up to 18 mg/ml. This contrasts to a recent report in which human TPO produced in insect cells was found to be insoluble at high concentrations. Our concentrated TPO grows trigonal trapezohedral crystals of up to 0.5 mm in length in a vapour diffusion apparatus using polyethelene glycol as a precipitant. The crystals diffract X-rays to a 6 A resolution and the diffraction data from the crystals have been analysed giving unit cell dimensions. A potential molecular replacement solution has been identified using myeloperoxidase (MPO) as a phasing model.

Abstract:
The rheological behaviors of the Micro Metal Injection Molding feedstock are important for the stability of the feedstock during micro injection molding process and quality of the final micro-components. Homogeneous feedstocks are preferable for MIM process to ensure the dimensional consistency of molded components and prevent the defects of powder-binder separation or particle segregation. In this work, feedstocks with various formulations of 316L stainless steel and binder system were prepared by using Brabender Plastograph EC Plus mixer. The binder system comprises of palm stearin, polyethelene (PE) and stearic acid. In order to obtain the viscosity, activation energy, flow behavior and mold ability index, the rheological characterization of the feedstocks were investigated in numerous conditions by using Shimadzu 500-D capillary rheometer The study showed that all of the 316L stainless steel feedstocks are homogenous with pseudo-plastic behaviors.

Abstract:
New feedstock formulation for metal injection moulding (MIM) of Molybdenum High Speed Steel (M2 HSS) has been developed. The binder is a multicomponent system consisting of major binder paraffin wax (PW), stearic acid (SA) and minor binder polyethelene waste rubber (PEWR). Injection moulding was conducted successfully using a powder loading of 0.65. Scanning electron micrograph of the green injection moulded part revealed homogenous distribution of the M2 HSS particles in the wax matrix. Paraffin wax and stearic acid were driven off by immersing the injection moulded part into n-heptane for five hours. Vacuum sintering of the brown parts at a temperature range of 1240°C-1280°C resulted in high quality M2 HSS parts. The properties of the sintered part such as physical, mechanical and microstructure were studied and discussed to evaluate the influence of waste rubber in MIM of M2 HSS.

Abstract:
Discharge may take place in high voltage apparatuses in the form of void discharge, corona discharge and surface discharge. Understanding of the discharge is very important to know the condition of the insulation. Partial discharge (PD) current pulse waveforms contain essentially all the available information concerning the PD generation and thus the available information concerning the physical mechanism of degradation and breakdown of insulation. In this paper, three types of discharge model for polyethelene insulation material are constructed and the PD current pulse waveforms are extracted from experiments. In order to obtain pulse waveform characteristics, the extracted pulse waveforms are pre-selected and normalized, and then a Sampling Counting Ratio (SCR) classification technique is investigated to reveal the multi-peak and oscillation information about the PD current pulse waveforms. Results show that the classification would enable us to estimate the progress and degree of the degradation.

Abstract:
Oxalate nephropathy due to Hyperoxaluria and elevated serum oxalate level is a well-known cause for interstitial fibrosis, and ESRD. Conditions associated with high serum Oxalate, should be considered as a possible contributing factor for a patient’s tubular injury. Well known cause for Hyperoxaluria including enteric Hyperoxaluria (due to gastric bypass, chronic pancreatitis, small Bowel resection, or malabsorption, as well as depletion of enteric oxalate-degrading bacteria [e.g., Oxalobacter). Other known causes of oxalate nephropathy include primary Hyperoxaluria, ethylene glycol intoxication, vitamin B6 deficiency, excessive ingestion of vitamin C or dietary substances rich in oxalic acid, aspergillosis, prolonged renal failure and various drugs (e.g., Known medications to cause Oxalate Nephropathy are: Orlistat, Praxilene, COX-2 inhibitors). Unusual presentation with Acute Kidney Injury with incidental finding of high serum Oxalate in a patient with a known CKD stage III, recently started on Polyethelene Glycol to treat his constipation.

Abstract:
AbstractAnalytical transmission electron microscopy (ATEM) offers great flexibility in identification of the structural—chemical organization of soft materials at the level of individual macromolecules. However, the determination of mechanical characteristics such as hardness/elasticity of the amorphous and polycrystalline organic substances by ATEM has been problematic so far. Here, we show that energy filtered TEM (EFTEM) measurements enable direct identification and study of mechanical properties in complex (bio-)polymer systems of relevance for different industrial and (bio-)medical applications. We experimentally demonstrate strong correlations between hardness/elasticity of different polymers (polycaprolactone, polylactid, polyethelene, etc.) and their volume plasmon energy. Thickness and anisotropy effects, which substantially mask the material contrast in EFTEM bulk plasmon images, can be adequately removed by normalizing the latter by carbon elemental map. EFTEM data has been validated using atomic force microscopy phase images, where phase shift related to the hardness and elastic modulus of the materials.

Abstract:
In this study, municipal plastic waste is used in producing paving blocks. Binders in the form of melted waste plastic bottles (Polyethelene Terephthalate (PET)) and water sachets (High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) with river sand, were used in making the blocks. Mix ratios; 1:1, 1:1.5 and 1:2 of sand-plastic waste were considered. Sand-cement mixes were adopted as the controls. 230mm x 140mm x 55mm blocks were cast, cured in water at ambient temperature and tested for 72-hours for water absorption and 21 days compressive strength. 3 specimen were prepared for each mixture. Sand-HDPE mix produced stronger blocks than sand-PET and sand-cement mixes. Topmost compressive strength of 17N/mm2 was generated from sand-HDPE mix of 1:2. Sand-PET blocks should be avoided since they generate very low strengths. Sand-plastic waste blocks melt faster at higher temperatures. Therefore, plastic paving blocks can only be used for light load pavements not subjected to high temperature.

Abstract:
In this paper, injection molding parameters are optimized using the L18 Taguchi orthogonal array for mechanical strength and surface quality of the green part. The feedstock used consists of stainless steel powder (SS316L) with the powder loading of 63 vol. %, 63.5 vol. % & 64 vol. %. The binder compositions used are polyethelene glycol (PEG-73 wt.%), polymethyl methacrilate (PMMA-25 wt.%) and stearic acid (4 wt.%). Mould temperature, injection temperature, injection pressure, injection time, holding time and powder loading ware selected as signal factors using Taghuci’s method based on literature, where these parameters were significant in MIM. Results showed that the optimum parameters are: mold temperature at 650C, injection temperature at1450C, injection pressure at 650 bar, injection flow rate at 20 m3/s, holding time at 5 s and powder loading of 64 vol.%. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) result shown that mold temperature is the most influence in order to produce good green part’s surface quality while powder loading give the best result for green part’s strength.

Abstract:
Two starch/wax based binders were formulated for metal injection moulding of 316L stainless steel. The formulations difffer in term of the starch type which substitute the backbone polyethelene. Feedstock having powder loading of the stainless steel powder up to 65 vol.% can be injection moulded successfully. Solvent debinding was performed in water at a temperature of 60°C for 3 hours and followed by immersion n-heptane for duration of 2 hours to remove the residual wax. The remaining binder was thermally extracted at 4500 with heating rate of 3°C/min, with no defects. The parts were then sintered in vacuum atmosphere within a temperature range of 1300°C to 1380°C. Approximately, 6.8 g/cm3theoretical density, hardness of 188.8 HV and tensile strength of 229.3 MPawere achieved for cassava starch/wax based binder while rice starch/wax based binder possessed 8.6g/cm3theoretical density, hardness of 385 HV and tensile strength of 462.1 MPa.

Abstract:
In this study, the influence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration to the iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) properties prepared using the precipitation method was investigated. The H2O2concentration was varied from 0.85 M to 5.1 M. The concentration of H2O2influenced the crystallinity and the growth rate of the IONPs precipitates. Increasing the concentration of H2O2increased the crystallinity and expedited the growth rate of IONPs. The optimum concentration of H2O2was 1.7 M. From the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images, the size of IONPs obtained was ~14 nm and the X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra showed the presence of spinel cubic lattice of maghemite (γ-Fe2O3). The magnetic measurement of IONPs using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) was showed that the IONPs exhibited superparamagnetic properties. Furthermore, the electrostatic repulsion using percloric acid (HClO4) and steric stabilization using silane polyethelene glycol (SiPEG) were created surround IONPs in order to obtain a stable colloidal IONPs for the conjugation process. The stable IONPs were then conjugated to the antibody and tested in the lateral flow immunoassay as the labelling agent.

This study presents the use of waste polythene derived as carry bags from kitchen waste and pond liner polyethelene as LDPE and bottle caps as HDPE as an additive in flexible pavements. In this study we will also add a fix percentage of zykotherm. Purposes of using above materials are to utilize environmentally unacceptable waste material and to develop a better material mix to resist increased traffic load and temperature effect resulting cracks in the pavement surface. In the proposed study the plastic waste will be cleaned and cut into a size such that it passes through 2-3mm sieve using shredding machine. In this study Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) mix will be proposed to prepare by using plain bitumen as a control specimen and bitumen mixed with LDPE 2% and 4% & HDPE 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%) as by weight, with fixed percentage of Zykotherm as 1.5% by weight.Bitumen content is 4.5% by weight for all specimen. The Marshall Stability test, Penetration Test, and softening point test, were conducted on control and modified DBM mixes.

Abstract:
Objective: The main objective of the research work is to develop and characterize allopurinol (ALPN) solid dispersions with different polymers to enhance solubility, enrich dissolution profile and improve patient compliance. Methods: ALPN solid dispersions were prepared by solvent evaporation technique using various grades of polyethelene glycol (PEG) such as PEG 4000 and PEG 6000 with different ratios like 1:0.5, 1:1, 1:1.5 and 1:2 and after formation of solid dispersions all physicochemical properties were examined. Results: All the formulations were found within the permissible pharmacopoeial limits for various physicochemical parameters. The pre-formulation studies, like Fourier, transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed the absence of drug-excipient interactions. The solubility and dissolution profiles of the sample were increased with increasing the concentration of ALPN solid dispersions. Solvent evaporation was proved to be a successful technique for the development of stable solid dispersion of ALPN. The dissolution amount percentage of ALPN formulations was found between 39.58±2.5 to 94.95±1.8 % within 60 min. Conclusion: Hence, from the all evaluation studies, it was evident that F1 formulation was the better formulation. F1 formulation (ALPN: PEG 4000 in the ratio of 1:0.5), 94.95±1.8 % drug released within 50 min.
