Song, Tianqi. "Détection et caractérisation des plis-de-passage sur la surface du cortex cérébral : de la morphologie à la connectivité." Thesis, Ecole centrale de Marseille, 2021. https://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-03789664.
Full textThe surface of the cerebral cortex is very convoluted, with a large number of folds, the cortical sulci. Moreover, these folds are extremely variable from one individual to another. This great variability is a problem for many applications in neuroscience and brain imaging. One central problem is that cerebral sulci are not the good unit to describe folding over the cortical surface. In particular, their geometry (shape) and topology (branches, number of pieces) are very variable. “Plis de passages” (PPs) or “annectant gyri” can explain part of the variability. The concept of PPs was first introduced by Gratiolet (1854) to describe transverse gyri that interconnect both sides of a sulcus, are frequently buried in the depth of these sulci, and are sometimes apparent on the cortical surface. As an interesting feature of the cortical folding process, the underlying structural connectivity of PPs also generated a lot of interest. However, the difficulty of identifying PPs and the lack of systematic methods to automatically detecting them limited their use. This thesis aims to detect and characterise the PPs on the cortical surface from both morphology and connectivity aspects. It was structured around two main research axes: 1. Definition of a machine learning-based PPs detection process using their geometrical (or morphological) characteristics. 2. Investigate the relationships between PPs and their un- derlying structural connectivity, and further development of multi-modal machine learning models. In the first part, we present a method to detect the PPs on the cortex automatically according to the local morphological characteristics proposed in (Bodin et al., 2021), To record the local morphological patterns for each vertex on the cortical surface, we used the cortical surface profiling method (Li et al., 2010). After that, the three-dimensional PP recognition problem is converted to a two-dimensional image classification problem of class-imbalance where more points in the STS are non-PPs than PPs. To solve this case, we propose an ensemble SVM model (EnsSVM) with a rebalancing strategy. Experimental results and quantitative statistics analyses show the effectiveness and robustness of our method. In the second part, we study the structural connectivity, particularly short-range U-fibers, underlying the location of PPs, and propose a new approach to study the density of U-fiber terminations on the cortical surface. We hypothesize that the PPs are located in regions of high density of intercrossing U-fibers termination. Indeed, our statistical analyses show a robustness correlation between PPs and U-fibers termination density. Moreover, we discuss the impact of connectivity heterogeneity in the STS on the machine learning results, and the myelin map is then used as a supplement to the structural connectivity

Full textThe aim of this work is to demonstrate the potential and capabilities of terahertz technology for parcels screening and inspection to detect threats such as weapons and explosives, without the need to open the parcel. In this study, we first present terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and spectral imaging for explosives detection. Two types of explosives as well as their binary mixture is analyzed. Due to the complexity of extracting information when facing such mixtures of samples, three chemometric tools are used: principal component analysis (PCA), partial least square analysis (PLS) and partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). The analyses are applied to terahertz spectral data and to spectral-images in order to: (i) describe a set of unknown data and identify similarities between samples by PCA; (ii) create a classification model and predict the belonging of unknown samples to each of the classes, by PLS-DA; (iii) create a model able to quantify and predict the explosive concentrations in a pure state or in mixtures, by PLS.The second part of this work focuses on millimeter wave imaging for weapon detection in parcels. Three different imaging techniques are studied: passive imaging, continuous wave (CW) active imaging and frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) active imaging. The performances, the advantages and the limitations of each of the three techniques, for parcel inspection, are exhibited. Moreover, computed tomography is applied to each of the three techniques to visualize data in 3D and inspect parcels in volume. Thus, a special tomography algorithm is developed by taking in consideration the Gaussian propagation of the wave

Full textIn the Andes of southern Peru (Cuzco), the human being-person is not given at birth ipso facto, once and for all. It is the « product » of a social « Construction » throughout the life cycle of individuals. Born in a state of « animality » and « wildness », the newborn child is supposed to be Saqra. This term refers to the sphere of non-social, and wild nightlife and it is opposed to the human, domesticated and diurnal sphere. It is therefore necessary for the newborn to be transformed in a social human being-person, man (qhari) or woman (warmi). This process of humanization is obtained throughout the life cycle rituals
Boyer, Alexandre. "Bidimensional stationarity of random models in the plane." Thesis, université Paris-Saclay, 2022. http://www.theses.fr/2022UPASM011.
Full textIn this PhD thesis, three models have been independently studied. They all have in common to be random models defined in the plane and having a two-dimensional stationarity property. The first one is Hammersley’s stationary model in the quarter plane, introduced and studied by Cator and Groeneboom. We present here a probablistic proof the Gaussian fluctuations in the non-critical case. The second model can be seen as a stationary modification ofO’Connell-Yor’s problem. The proof of its stationarity is obtained by introducing a discretisation of this model, by proving its stationairty and then by observing that this stationarity is preserved in the limit. Finally, the third model is a general class of random systems of horizontal and vertical weighted broken lines on the quarter plane whose distribution are proved to be reversible. This class of systems generalizes several classical processes of the same kind. The noveltycomes here from the introduction of a weight associated with each line

Full textThe demands on newly constructed buildings to be energy efficient in the operational stage are increasing all the time by many reasons. Partly because the people living in the house want to keep the operational costs as low as possible and partly because of the impact on the environment. But how energy efficient can a villa be made and how does it affect the architecture when it is made extremely energy efficient? In this essay ten energy efficient principles are investigated which can be used to make a villa more energy efficient and energy producing. All ten principles have been applied in one villa that has been designed during this project. The ten principles are: The design and shape of the house Construction Insulated sliding slots Solar panels Sun shading Energy roof Heating system Wind power turbine Wind protection Consciousness and interior design The results show that the villa will produce an overbalance of energy of about 6 000 kWh/year according to simpler calculations of the house´s energy consumption and the energy that it produces. The architecture is clearly affected by the energy efficient principles but the house is still fully functioning. Applying ten energy efficient principles in one villa can be hard to motivate economically because of long pay-off times caused by high investment costs. This thesis has been made at KTH campus Haninge in cooperation with Sweco Architects AB.
