This master’s thesis is an introduction to the measurement of changes in tissue impedance of blood flow by impedance plethysmography. Other chapters deal with the kinds of plethysmographs and their principles. The aim is to draft four-electrode impedance plethysmograph to measure changes in tissue impedance depending on blood flow. First, describe the individual blocks of the medical instrument. The practical part of the master’s thesis involves circuit design four-electrode plethysmograph. Given that a very important role in its function plays a constant current source operating at a frequency of 60kHz, this subset was implemented and verified its correct function. To draw component schemes used program EAGLE version 5.10.0.

This doctoral thesis deals with the study of electro-hydrodynamics in the area of numerical modelling of biomechanical systems, concretely in the method of bioimpedance plethysmography. Solving tasks of pulsatile blood flow in the elastic vessel wall is currently one of the most complicated problem in mechanics and biomechanics due to the interaction of two continua on the common boundary. The whole system is additionally loaded by diagnostic electric current. This doctoral thesis was created in cooperation with the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the CAS, v. v. i. Brno with the team engaged in medical signals (the leader Ing. Pavel Jurák, CSc.). Experimental measurements were made independently in the St. Anne's University Hospital Brno in the International Clinical Research Center ICRC and in the Mayo Clinic USA.

Volvo Human Monitoring (VHM) är ett pågående projekt på Volvo Personvagnar där dem bland annat mäter in- och utandning genom en mätutrustning, kallad respiratorisk induktans pletysmograf (RIP), som mäter förändringar av tvärsnittsarean av bröstkorg och buk. När föraren är i rörelse till exempel när hon svänger ändras tvärsnittsarean och en ”störning” i RIP-signalen kan uppkomma. Dessa störningar medför att vid analys av RIP-signalen måste stora manuella justeringar utföras, vilket är mycket tidskrävande, och utrustningens validitet för mätning av in- och utandning ifrågasätts. Syftet med denna studie var att effektivisera analysen av en RIP-signal som registrerats vid bilkörning. Målsättningen var att skapa ett nytt databearbetningsverktyg i Matlab som på ett automatiskt sätt kan detektera in- och utandning från en RIP-signal med högre validitet än det existerande databearbetningsverktyget. I studien utfördes tester på nio förare under bilkörning på landsväg, grusväg, motorväg och i stadstrafik. In- och utandning mättes med en RIP, en pneumotakograf med en tätt sluten ansiktsmask och ett termoelement som var placerad mellan näsa och mun som referensutrustning. Resultatet blev ett databearbetningsverktyg som automatiskt detekterar in- och utandning med högre validitet än det tidigare internutvecklade databearbetningsverktyg. Verktyget markerar sekvenser där risken är stor att RIP mäter in- och utandning på ett felaktigt sätt eller tar bort in- och utandningar under dessa sekvenser beroende på användarens inställningar. Studien har även bidragit till ny kunskap om en alternativ mätutrustning, termoelementet, för att detektera in- och utandning med högre validitet än med RIP under bilkörning.

This paper explains the concept of emotion, emotion dimension and how emotions relate to the central nervous system. Additionally, there is research that were the inspiration for this work, the basic types of emotions and their physiological responses. The following are ways to monitor signals caused by emotions. The practical part deals with the sensing signals from the periphery of the body, specifically the EDA, EMG, EOG and PPG. As stimuli to elicit these signals were used photography, music and film. The signals were processed using the program developed in Matlab. Program specific values obtained were statistically analysed.

This Mater's thesis deals with the evaluation of pulse wave velocity using multi-channel whole-body impedance cardiography. Data were taken from the group of healthy volunteers whose impedance changes were measured during rest, respiratory maneuvers, tilt and stress exercise. The result of this measurement are values of peaks of pulse wave time shifts towards R-wave. The velocity values towards the thorax electrodes were recalculated on the basis of knowledge about the pulse wave time shifts and the distances from the heart to the scanned locations, which were measured using the arterial segment's lengths.

The assessment of pedophilic sexual preferences is an important part of forensic and research practice. Standardization of methods and stimuli used across sites is missing, making data transferability and comparability more difficult. The aim of this study was to investigate if the stimuli used in the USA and Canada are able to reliably distinguish between pedophilic and control subjects in the Czech Republic, based on their elicited sexual arousal. A stimuli set was first translated into Czech and voice recordings were created for the narratives. Sexual arousal was measured using circumferential penile plethysmography. 29 pedophilic (15 heterosexual; 14 homosexual) and 26 control (12 heterosexual; 12 homosexual) participants took part in the study. The sample comprised mostly non- delinquent individuals. The results revealed a significant difference in the subjective sexual arousal ratings as well as sexual reactivity between pedophiles and control participants in response to both child and adult stimulus categories. Correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between subjective ratings and sexual reactivity to both child and adult stimulus categories. Penile plethysmography is quite an intrusive assessment method, so viewing time (VT) might be a good alternative if it is shown to be compapratively accurate. Title: Comparison of individual methods of basal metabolism determination Objectives: The aim of the work is to compare the individual methods of basal metabolism. These values were measured by indirect calorimetry, plethysmography, bioelectric impedance and predictive equations. Methods: The research was attended by 31 people, including eight men and twenty-three women. All participants of my research were aged 21-30 years. None of the participants was a professional athlete, they were all healthy and none of the women were pregnant or had menstruation. The indirect calorimetry, bioelectronics impedance device Tanita MC - 980 and BOD POD were used to collect the data. Basal metabolic rates were calculated from the prediction equations by Harris & Benedict, Fleisch's equation and Schofield's equation using measured anthropometric values. Results: The results of the methods that have been used for this group of people vary, but the difference is not significant. If we choose as a reference method indirect calorimetry, we can't replace it by any other method. The results for other methods are not significantly different, so we can replace one method with another, except indirect calorimetry. The human sexual response is a dynamic combination of cognitive, emotional, and physiological processes. To this day, not many studies have dealt with measurment of female sexual arousal in relation to the attractivness of presented stimuli or studies dealing with states of undress and different phases of sexual arousal of men presented by erection. The goal of the study was to test the difference in female sexual arousal during exposure to erotic photographs displaying men with different level of attractiveness and arousal. Female sexual arousal of 32 heterosexual women were measured by vaginal plethysmograph (BIOPAC system). Women showed increased genital arousal to attractive stimuli and to stimuli depiciting erected penis.
