Abstract:
The term known as “Plagiarism” was first coined in English around the year 1601 by the dramatist Ben Jonson, in order to characterize someone committing theft in literary. Plagiarism is a serious form of scientific misconduct that results from “the failure to attribute words, ideas, or findings to their true authors” Specifically, the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) defines plagiarism as “the use of others’ published and unpublished ideas or words without attribution or permission, and presenting them as new and original rather than derived from an existing source” The AIM of the present review is to provide a thorough account of plagiarism to builds awareness about all dimensions of plagiarism and the measures that a Scientific Researcher can adopt to avoid plagiarism

Abstract:
Kata kunci: Plagiarisme, karya ilmiah, perguruan tinggiAbstractPlagiarisme is indeed wrong since it’s a claim of somebody’s scientific work as its own. In the academic world, plagiarism is also considered a moral misconduct which brought a negative impact to academic integrity. Therefore, plagiarism needs to be prevented and when happened, strict sanction and punishment need to be sentenced. In 2010, Ministry of Education has issued a decree to prevent and stop plagiarism among the academics. This article attempts to describe types of plagiarism, why it happens, and how to prevent and solution. Many references used came from foreign articles, since few were known about plagiarism in Indonesia. Types of plagiarism such as word by word plagiarism, word switch plagiarism, style plagiarism, metaphor plagiarism, idea plagiarism, self plagiarism, and plagiarism through internet were described. As an educational institution, the Faculty of Public Health University of Indonesia is urged to put serious attention to prevent and eliminate plagiarism using a system approach by creating conducive educational environment, respecting other’s scientific work, conducting training on paraphrase, citation, and reference writing in a proper way; creating and using simple electronic software to check sci- entific article plagiarism and encourage students to seek advice to prevent this disrespectful deed.Key words: Plagiarism, scientific writing, university

Abstract:
Abstract: Plagiarism cases have increasingly occurred, especially in higher education, and Universitas Negeri Malang is one of universities in Indonesia that concerns about plagiarism cases. However, there are only a few studies concerning plagiarism that have been conducted in Universitas Negeri Malang. As EFL learners, ELT students are more likely to be exposed to plagiarism issues and might have committed plagiarism either intentionally or unintentionally. In order to prevent unexpected attitudes that may lead to plagiarism cases, this study used surveys to investigate the ELT students’ attitudes towards plagiarism in writing argumentative essays in terms of their behavioral, normative, and control beliefs. The subjects of the study were ELT students who were taking an Argumentative Writing course. The findings show that the majority of the ELT students have unfavorable attitudes towards plagiarism in writing argumentative essays. Even though some students show favorable attitudes and tend to approve plagiarism issues in certain situations, this study has confirmed that the students have generally understood about plagiarism, and they tend to perform unintentional plagiarism rather than intentional plagiarism. The favorable attitudes found in this study are mostly caused by the unclear information and policies concerning plagiarism, and the students’ competence in writing. Keywords: ELT students, attitudes, plagiarism, argumentative essays Abstrak: Kasus plagiarisme telah semakin marak, terutama di dunia pendidikan tinggi. Abstract:
Plagiarism is an offense and an ornament to science. Plagiarists steal the work of other authors or what is commonly called cheating or plagiarizing without citing the origins of the original author. Plagiarism is an act that is vulnerable to criminal activity and this problem must be considered in as much detail as possible. The act of plagiarism is recognized as an act that is disapproved and contrary to the scientific spirit in the academic world in universities. Several types of plagiarism can be distinguished by intentional or unintentional plagiarism motivation, ways of committing plagiarism include handwriting, inappropriate paraphrasing, and summaries, plagiarism itself can be said to be recycling text, redundant or duplicate publications, data fragmentation . The purpose of this study is to find out the legal arrangements for plagiarism of scientific work in tertiary institutions and to find out the legal consequences for perpetrators of the crime of plagiarism of scientific work in tertiary institutions. The research method used by the author is normative research method which positions the law as a building system of norms. There is no law that specifically regulates plagiarism, but someone who commits plagiarism or is called a plagiarist is regulated in Article 1, Minister of National Education Regulation number 17 of 2010 concerning the prevention and control of plagiarism in tertiary institutions. There are several reasons for someone to commit plagiarism, such as the convenience obtaining information via the internet, pressure on academic assignments, poor writing skills, rushing to write under pressure, lack of knowledge and understanding of how to rewrite original references, misunderstandings to self-understand plagiarism, and habitual cheating or plagiarism, such as avoiding theft intellectual, do good writing i.e. quote and paraphrase, and try the same thing or detect plagiarism in many ways like using plagiarism apps or turnitin. Abstract:
It is much easier to access literature now than before because of the existence of the internet where students can download soft files of articles or written works from journals or particular websites. However, postgraduate students especially those studying at a teacher education program should not plagiarize because they become role models for their students and should present noble behaviour for their students to be. This study investigated how much undergraduate and postgraduate students in English education are familiar with plagiarisms, how their attitudes toward plagiarism are and what may encourage them to plagiarize. The data for this study came from 151 students involved in this study by filling in the questionnaire and 6 of them were randomly selected for interview. The results show that in general there is no important difference between undergraduate and postgraduate students on their knowledge, attitude, and experiences of dishonesty and plagiarism although there are some differences in the percentage of the two groups of students on several items asked in the questionnaire. This implies that the level of education does not affect university students of their knowledge, attitude and experience on dishonesty and plagiarism. Therefore, it is recommended that specific training programs on academic writing which include moral ethic, knowledge on dishonesty and plagiarism and their practical samples in written texts to combat dishonesty and plagiarism among university students at any level.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the academic context, plagiarism is usually seen as an ethical offence, the boundaries and definition of which are often unclear. However, in some countries, plagiarism is also a legal wrong, amounting to copyright infringement. This article proposes a test for assessing plagiarism of academic works. The test is based on the law and jurisprudence of a particular country, Portugal, where plagiarism is framed as copyright infringement. Article 196 of the Portuguese Copyright Law sets four elements that must be fulfilled for a finding of plagiarism: There must be a protected work; the alleged plagiarist must have used a partial or total reproduction of that work; the alleged plagiarist must have failed to attribute the authorship of the work to its rightful creator; and the work of the alleged plagiarist must lack its own individuality. The authors argue that, even if the law of a particular country does not frame plagiarism as a legal offence, these elements should be part of a test to be adopted and applied by academic institutions for the sake of legal certainty.

Abstract:
ChatGPT is a widely used chatbot model that has gained popularity. Concerns have been raised that ChatGPT may facilitate plagiarism. Therefore, it is necessary to determine whether ChatGPT can distinguish between plagiarised and non-plagiarised texts. The purpose of the study was to investigate the potential of ChatGPT in generating plagiarism. The sample included various types of texts, such as manuscripts. Several questions about plagiarism were asked. The study found that the first version of ChatGPT cannot successfully detect plagiarism, although it can distinguish sentences written in academic sources from ordinary sentences. ChatGPT assumes that providing a reference to a previous source is sufficient. However, this does not mean that it is free from plagiarism. The findings of this study indicate that ChatGPT cannot fully recognise plagiarism

An epidemic of plagiarism is sweeping the world. A study carried out in the US suggested that 80% of college students admit to cheating at least once (Ashworth et al 1997). Alternative evidence from an American education and software company, Plagiarism.org , reported that 36% of undergraduates plagiarise written material and that 90% of students believe that cheaters are never caught or disciplined ( Plagiarism.org 2005). Closer to home, research carried out in the UK by Clare (1996) suggested that 50% of students copy work and invent data. More recently the Plagiarism Advisory Service, based at Northumbria University, reported that 25% of students plagiarise, while lecturers only detect plagiarism 3% of the time (Plagiarism Advisory Service 2006).

Abstract:
To date, plagiarism continues to be a widespread problem in higher education. Deemed to be endemic, researchers continue to examine various aspects of plagiarism, including students’ perception, practices, attitudes and reasons for plagiarism, in addressing this growing concern. Most studies, however, tend to examine these aspects independently. This paper reports on a study that examined both the students’ attitudes and reasons for plagiarism, particularly among the Technical and Non-Technical programme students. A questionnaire was administered to 120 students, i.e. 60 each from each programme to gather quantitative data on their attitudes and reasons for plagiarising. The study found that students in both groups hold negative attitudes towards plagiarism. They deem it synonymous to cheating in final examinations and advocate severe penalty to offenders who submit free downloaded or purchased articles. However, they disagree on being penalised for permitting their peers to plagiarise their work. Significant differences were found for the latter two attitudes between the groups. Albeit, disfavouring plagiarism, the two most cited reasons that compel students in both groups to plagiarise are their self-inadequacy in writing skills and poor time management, followed by the temptation and opportunity to plagiarise from the internet and to cope with the institutional load. With an understanding of these variables, all parties will be able to make more informed decisions in addressing this malpractice and upholding academic integrity.

Abstract:
Plagiarism is intellectual criminal behaviour that uses or takes other people's quotes without citing the source. It can be caused by the lack of insight into plagiarism and the limited understanding of techniques to avoid plagiarism in scientific publications, especially for Arabic language teachers in Banten. Based on this analysis, a community service activity was carried out such as training/workshops for PBA teachers who are members of the Banten Province Arabic MGMP. The training/workshop will improve understanding, provide training on techniques to avoid plagiarism in writing OJS-based scientific papers, improve the professional competence of Arabic language teachers, and enrich Arabic research and learning. The methods applied in this activity are lecture discussions, followed by simulations/demonstrations, and last mentoring in practising the correct way of quoting to avoid plagiarism. This activity is proven to increase knowledge and technical skills to avoid plagiarism in scientific writing, which can be seen in the use of the Mendeley application.

Abstract:
Due to the overall widespread accessibility of electronic materials available on the internet, the availability and usage of computers in education have resulted in a growth in the incidence of plagiarism among students. A growing number of individuals at colleges around the globe appear to be presenting plagiarised papers to their professors for credit, while no specific details are collected of how much was plagiarised previously or how much is plagiarised currently. Supervisors, who are overburdened with huge responsibility, desire a simple way—similar to a litmus test—to rapidly reform plagiarized papers so that they may focus their work on the remaining students. Plagiarism-checking software programs are useful for detecting plagiarism in examinations, projects, publications, and academic research. A number of the latest research findings dedicated to evaluating and comparing plagiarism-checking methods have demonstrated that these have restrictions in identifying the complicated structures of plagiarism, such as extensive paraphrasing as well as the utilization of technical manipulations, such as substituting original text with similar text from foreign alphanumeric characters. Selecting the best reliable and efficient plagiarism-detection method is a challenging task with so many options available nowadays. This paper evaluates the different academic plagiarism-detection methods using the fuzzy MCDM (multi-criteria decision-making) method and provides recommendations for the development of efficient plagiarism-detection systems. A hierarchy of evaluation is discussed, as well as an examination of the most promising plagiarism-detection methods that have the opportunity to resolve the constraints of current state-of-the-art tools. As a result, the study serves as a “blueprint” for constructing the next generation of plagiarism-checking tools.

Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to describe the methodology of building a software system (application) for plagiarism checking of scientific publications in the Ukrainian language using two machine learning models, Word2Vec and BERT. We consider the detection of external plagiarism in Ukrainian texts.Plagiarism is usually defined as the passing off someone else’s ideas as your own. As the Internet becomes more and more accessible every day, a huge amount of data becomes available to people. Nowadays, it is quite easy to find a suitable study and plagiarize it instead of developing one’s own from scratch.Plagiarism undermines the efforts of the researcher whose work has been plagiarized and gives the plagiarist the opportunity to over-praise himself; such a person can be detrimental when appointed to an important position. Many fields of life are susceptible to plagiarism, including research and education. Plagiarism can also take many forms: from straight up copy-paste to paraphrasing and sentence restructuring. This makes plagiarism a rather complex problem, where methods, such as longest common subsequence or n-grams, based on finding shared words between documents, might not work. Therefore, we might consider applying deep learning to the problem of plagiarism detection. In this article we discussed the concept of plagiarism and listed its types. Two machine learning models have been proposed for plagiarism detection: Word2Vec and BERT. We also provided an overview of both models and described how they could be used in the problem of plagiarism detection.A web application for plagiarism detection in the Ukrainian language has been developed. This application features React, a JavaScript framework, on the frontend and Python on the backend. To store application data, MongoDB is used. This application allows a user to input a text that will be compared with the texts from the application database using cosine similarity or Euclidean distance as metrics. Comparison is performed using word embeddings, calculated by pre-trained BERT or Word2Vec model. A user can choose the model and similarity metrics using the application’s UI.The application can be further improved to not only output similarity metric but also highlight the similar sentences in the texts.

Abstract:
Plagiarism is a misconduct act and a scourge for science. Plagiarism perpetrators steal other author's work without citing the original references. Psychology is one of the most vulnerable sciences with plagiarism and must give more attention to this issue. Several types of plagiarism can be distinguished to the plagiarism motivation (intentional, unintentional, and inadvertent), how to do plagiarism (patchwriting, inappropriate paraphrasing, and summaries) and self-plagiarism (text recycling, redundant or duplicate publication, salami-slicing or data fragmentation). There are several reasons to do plagiarism, such as ease to get information via the internet, pressure on academic tasks, bad writing skill, hurry to write under pressure, lack of understanding how to rewrite the original reference, a misconception to understanding self-plagiarism, and habitual plagiarists. This article also presents steps to avoid plagiarism, such as avoiding "intellectual theft", doing good writing (citation and paraphrasing), and testing the similarity test (plagiarism detection service).

Abstract:
Background: Plagiarism is an ethical concern among students but is insufficiently discussed and acknowledged in some educational institutions. Determining what factors influence plagiarism can help the academic community manage its incidence. Objective: This study determined the factors affecting the intention to plagiarize among Filipino nursing students. Methods: Utilizing a cross-sectional research design, data were gathered from 304 nursing students last June 2021 using valid instruments administered online. Regression analysis identified influencing factors of intention to plagiarize. Results: Findings indicated a generally low intention (M = 1.47, SD = 0.74) to plagiarize among nursing students. Internet literacy (B = -0.314, p <0.001), attitude (B = 0.257, p <0.001), moral obligation (B = -0.236, p <0.001), past behavior (B = 0.139, p <0.001), and subjective norm (B = -0.095, p = -0.001) influenced nursing students’ plagiarism intention. Conclusion: Several interrelated factors play major roles in nursing students’ tendency to plagiarize. Creating an educational environment that does not favor the unethical practice of plagiarism is recommended for nursing schools.

Abstract:
Studies show that students who cheat at certain levels of education are more likely to do so at work or at later levels of education. One form of academic fraud is plagiarism. Some researchers claim that students deliberately plagiarize, while others plagiarize because they do not understand how to properly cite, paraphrase, or refer to sources. Therefore, this study aims to understand English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students' self-reported reason for internet plagiarism in Academic Writing class, as understanding the causes of student plagiarism is essential to properly addressing the problem. To obtain the data, a survey of respondents' reason for plagiarize was distributed to second, fourth and sixth trimester students of the Department of English in a private university. A total of 85 students participated in the survey. As a result, we found that some people, despite having a high level of understanding of plagiarism, admitted to intentionally plagiarizing for various reasons. Additionally, research shows that people do not understand that claiming work from a source as their own without acknowledging the source is part of plagiarism.DOI: 10.26905/enjourme.v7i2.8640

Abstract:
Empirical work on plagiarism in graduate research, particularly in English studies, in the Bangladeshi institutions of higher learning (private and public), is so scarce that it could be considered as almost negligible. Plagiarism is a crime and a violation of intellectual property, and needs to be addressed; but it seems to be overlooked and or neglected by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as well as the concerned universities. Moreover, when plagiarism is detected in graduate research, the blame predominantly falls on the plagiarists/students, who are held accountable for their actions. However, are the plagiarists completely responsible for their acts of negligence–conscious or unconscious? Should they shoulder all the blame or should others, directly or indirectly, responsible for guiding them in their academic research/studies be held accountable as well? This study intends to shed light on plagiarism in graduate research, especially in English studies in private and public universities in Bangladesh, from a critical discourse analysis (CDA) perspective.

Abstract:
The main objective of the study was a survey of documents and content posted in the “Plagiarism” open group on social network Facebook. The research tasks were the following: 1) to analyze the content of the newsfeed in the group and files published in it; 2) to classify posts in the group by type; 3) to define topics of discussions in the group; 4) to describe anti-plagiarism activities of the group members. Among the research methods, we used document analysis to analyse 1) articles (in order to determine the essence, characteristics, types of plagiarism) and 2) content published in the “Plagiarism” group (in order to define and classify posts by type and thematic scope as well as outline areas of anti-plagiarism activities of the group members). Grouping method was used for the ordered description of the different-type objects, such as some posts in the “Plagiarism” group. Analysis of the documents and the newsfeed content allowed making the following conclusions. 1. Forty-three documents published in the “Files” section refer to: a) upholding the principles of academic honesty, prevention of plagiarism and anti-plagiarism activities; b) development of the “Black List of Ukrainian Plagiarists” database; c) disclosure of information about committing plagiarism by certain persons; on the base of comparison test tables composed by E. Shestakova and T. Parkhomenko we have set up a register of academic plagiarism types; d) activities of the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education. 2. Posts on the newsfeed (2012-2017) were grouped according to the following criteria: 1) the subject of discussions (16 positions); 2) types of messages (13 positions). We outlined further activities of the group members: 1) detection of specific cases of plagiarism, disclosure of them, and efforts to punish the plagiarists; 2) analysis of specialized scientific periodicals for following the requirements of academic honesty and fight against the so-called “trash” journals; 3) preventing the spread of plagiarism. The work of active members of the “Plagiarism” group contributes to the formation of a specific online archive of materials primarily related to academic plagiarism. Information saved in the group can be used as empirical material for the theoretical generalizations and newsworthy event for mass media. All facts specified in the article indicate that the “Plagiarism” group is an essential segment of a social and communicative discourse that is inspired by the plagiarism expansion in all spheres of society life. The research of “Plagiarism” group content gives an opportunity to find out the most contradictory spheres of the plagiary discourse and to find the ways of overcoming the plagiary problem.

Abstract. Website-Based Application for Checking Students’ Digital Assignment. Nowadays, technology is not only about computers as it has advanced to smartphones and other things. In UKMC, technology has certainly helped the job. However, in this university, there is no application for checking the plagiarism of the students’ digital assignments, whereas plagiarism is sometimes done by students when working on assignments from online sources. Students’ assignments can be easily done by doing copy and paste without mentioning its reference because students tend to think practically when working on assignments. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited in education because it is not permitted. Therefore, a plagiarism detection application should be created. It applies a string-matching algorithm in text documents to search the common words between documents. By applying the string-matching method in document that match with other documents, an output that will provide information on how similar the text documents are can be generated. After testing, it is obtained that this application can help lecturers and students to reduce the level of plagiarism. Keywords: Application, Plagiarism, Digital, Assignment Abstrak.

Abstract:
In the current technical scenario of the world, the importance of Intellectual Properties is growing at a fast pace in the business, education and the publishing industry particularly for those who have utilised the power of the internet to access any data, anytime, anywhere. The protection of copyright has therefore become a major concern in the said domain scenario since the theft of textual contents known as “Plagiarism” has emerged as a major menace. For this, a software plagiarism detection tool was developed earlier by us to find contents of a newly created work to be copyrighted in regard to what of its portions have been plagiarised and to what extent along with from which source whether from a local repository/database or from resources available over the internet. In the present paper, it has been used to analyse what way plagiarism would have infested the technical creativity of a typical newly established institute of higher education and research in IT, ECE, MBA, etc. had there been no such plagiarism detection tool available at all. The analysis is presented for arriving at overall scenario of plagiarism found in MTech thesis works, research papers, the book chapters written by faculty members and the research papers received in a couple of International Conferences organised by the institute etc. It is concluded that about 8.7% works manifested plagiarism of 20% or more in an institute just established almost a decade back. The tool has made profound impact in controlling plagiarism in the institute finally to reach almost zero level by fully revealing the contents plagiarised along with their sources. Guidelines have been arrived and reported here first time to advise the young authors how to mitigate the problem of plagiarism and thus assure that all the copyrightable works of the institute become free from plagiarism before they leave the station.

Abstract:
The use of Google translator as a tool for determining translational plagiarism is a big challenge. As noted, plagiarism of the original papers written in Macedonian and translated into other languages can be verified after computerised translation in other languages. Attempts to screen the translational plagiarism should be supported. The use of Google Translate tool might be helpful. Special focus should be on any non-English reference that might be the source of plagiarised material and non-English article that might translate from an original English article, which cannot be detected by simple plagiarism screening tool. It is a hard job for any journal to detect the complex translational plagiarism but the harder job might be how to effectively manage the case.

Abstract:
Most source code plagiarism detection tools only rely on source code similarity to indicate plagiarism. This can be an issue since not all source code pairs with high similarity are plagiarism. Moreover, the culprits (i.e., the ones who plagiarise) cannot be differentiated from the victims even though they need to be educated further on different ways. This paper proposes a mechanism to generate hints for investigating source code plagiarism and identifying the culprits on in-class individual programming assessment. The hints are collected from the culprits’ copying behaviour during the assessment. According to our evaluation, the hints from source code creation process and seating position are 76.88% and at least 80.87% accurate for indicating plagiarism. Further, the hints from source code creation process can be helpful for indicating the culprits as the culprits’ codes have at least one of our predefined conditions for the copying behaviour.

Abstract:
Plagiarism detection service like Turnitin can be powerful tools to help faculty evaluate whether a student’s paper is plagiarized. But there’s another side to Turnitin: The service promotes itself as a way to help teach students how to avoid plagiarism. I argue that the use of plagiarism detection services as learning tools actually contributes to the problem of plagiarism, by encouraging the idea that original papers are the goal of a class, instead of instruments to assess a student’s ability to understand the class material. In addition, giving students access to the very tool that professors use to evaluate the authenticity of a paper allows students to use the tool to intentionally plagiarize in a way that passes the test. While plagiarism-detection services can help professors investigate suspected acts of plagiarism, they should not be used as a tool to teach students how to write papers.

Abstract:
Plagiarism is a common problem that exists in writing scientific articles. This research investigates views of plagiarism practices by students majoring in Mathematics and Natural Science in writing a scientific article. This research is qualitative descriptive, which applies thematic analysis. The research instruments were observation checklists, documents, and interview guides. The research subjects were eight students majoring in Mathematics and Natural Sciences. This study showed that students plagiarize due to missed information, keeping original ideas, and time constraints. Missed information about plagiarism, such as not understanding what constitutes plagiarism or how to cite sources properly, can also lead to unintentional plagiarism. Keeping the sense of original ideas without proper paraphrasing can lead to plagiarism. Time constraints can be a significant factor leading to plagiarism. When students or researchers are pressured to complete assignments, papers, or projects within a limited timeframe, they may resort to unethical practices like plagiarism to meet deadlines. This research found that students of Mathematics and Natural Sciences found difficulties regarding the time constraint in translation and properly citing and referencing sources. For further research, conducting a similar topic with a large-scale sample for presenting quantitative research designs on students' attitudes toward plagiarism practices in Mathematics and Natural Sciences is recommended. The upcoming research also could investigate the level of papers’ similarity and then follow up through training to avoid plagiarism

Abstract:
Introduction: This study aims to determine how many medical students at MMC know about plagiarism, how they feel about it, and what they do about it. The study would find out how much they know about plagiarism, how they feel about it, how much they value academic integrity and originality, how smart they are, and what they think about academic honesty and intellectual property rights. Also, the study would look into what makes medical students feel good or bad about cheating. It could mean looking into educational interventions and policies that can raise knowledge of plagiarism and discourage it in the classroom. Methods: The Muhammad Medical College (MMC), located in Mirpurkhas, Sindh, Pakistan, conducted a cross-sectional study on MBBS students from the first to Final year. The self-administered, closed-ended questionnaire evaluated medical students' awareness, respect, and attitude toward plagiarism—a 3-option survey with closed questions. Two hundred medical students, ranging from (A) agree to (N) neutral to (DA) disagree. One hundred seventy medical students provided pros and disadvantages. Data were gathered, processed, and analyzed using Excel and SPSS 22. Results: First-question data demonstrates that most male and female students understand plagiarism's morality. Most students will understand citation and plagiarism if the second question is representative. Apathy helps students learn. The fourth question shows that most medical students—male and female—understand plagiarism's ethical implications. The subsequent questions show that medical students of different academic levels disagree on whether research newbies should be forgiven for plagiarism. Most students are agnostic or share this view. Based on these results, medical students doubt annual anti-plagiarism training. Some pupils need help to create an opinion. Most medical students, especially senior students, want tighter plagiarism laws. Practical Implication: Some learners need clarification on their stance or need extra knowledge and help before formulating an opinion. According to the research, most medical students, especially those in their last year, support discussing plagiarism at all academic levels. It shows a mature perspective of the students. Conclusion: This study illuminates medical students' views on plagiarism at undergraduate and graduate levels. Percentages show students' agreement, disagreement, and ambiguity. Data reveal that students of different academic years agree. These changes show that students question the efficacy of mandatory anti-plagiarism training at the start of each academic year Keywords: Plagiarism, Academic integrity, Intellectual property, Citation, Originality, Copyright infringement, Ethics, Attribution, Academic dishonesty, and Source acknowledgment.

Abstract:
To copy or not to copy is not an option for students to choose from, as copying one’s work or ideas is plagiarism, which is an unethical act and will be subject to severe punishment. Although awareness of plagiarism is commonly provided in many ways, students still commit it. Hence, the study was conducted with two objectives which are to determine the source of students’ knowledge on plagiarism, and to investigate the reasons for students committing plagiarism despite having knowledge on this matter. This quantitative research employed an online survey using a Google Form, which was distributed to the students via WhatsApp. The sample was obtained through purposive sampling. It consisted of 143 undergraduate degree students from a public university in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The data gathered was analysed using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) for the descriptive analysis. The findings revealed that majority of the students knew about plagiarism and the punishment for committing it. Most of them also disagreed that they plagiarised because of the reasons stated in the questionnaire. The findings suggest that they may not commit plagiarism, or they may commit plagiarism for other reasons that were not stated in the questionnaire. Therefore, a qualitative study should be conducted to provide more insights into why students commit plagiarism.

Contrary to the water-cooler hypothesis of educators, journalism and mass communication students who plagiarize do not differ from their non-copying peers in the “Big Five” personality traits (study 1, n = 908). However, the two groups differ in a scale that measures integrity on a continuum between principles and expediency (study 2, n = 483). They also differ when asked to evaluate types of copy-and-paste Internet plagiarism. JMC majors do not differ from those in other disciplines in their propensity to commit plagiarism. The two studies show students consider plagiarism a relative offense and offer suggestions for educators trying to reduce its prevalence.

The word Greek origin "Plagion" is the root of word plagiarism and in Latin it is "plagiarius", which mean kidnapper, seducer, plunderer and literacy thief. Plagiarism is a serious violation of publishing ethics in academic institutes. This study aimed to examine the conceptual awareness of masters- professors and postgraduate students of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences (AJUMS) related to plagiarism issues. A self-made questionnaire was used with two different parts included the demographic variables and questions to elicit their conceptual awareness to five more common issues of plagiarism. Participants were 155 Masters-professors and 305 Postgraduate students in AJUMS in South West of Iran. The results show that less than half of the total number of masters-professors and 26.5% of postgraduate students succeeded in giving the right perception of all five common plagiarism forms, so are not familiar enough with plagiarism issue. If we add uncommon types in our list, knowledge level may become less than this rate. The academic institutes have to plan a comprehensive research ethics educational program for increasing understanding and awareness of academicians.
