The speed control of smart PIGs is necessary, in oil and gas industry, for allow a better and safer pipeline inspection. This is possible when those smart it PIGs maintain a low speed while performs a pipeline inspection, in the search for defects as corrosion, cracks and dents. Our objective propose a technology for speed control of smart pigs using a by-pass valve triggered by a solenoid. This valve is able to control the pressure differential applied in PIG ?s body. Once we control the pressure differential, it is possible to control the speed of this PIG . A experimental benchmark was mounted in reduced scale for simulation of the PIG speed excursion situation and acceleration suffered by the PIGs . The experimental benchmark allowed to studying the reactions of the upstream and downstream pressure over the by-pass valve. The Fuzzy logic was used for determine the opening and closing period this valve to control pressure differential. The experimental tests show substantial reduction in pressure differential value over PIG after happening speed excursion. Also, the time necessary for the pressure differential go to maximum and returns to default reference value. The results obtained allow conclude which is possible to controlling pressure differential applied in PIG , thus also the speed, using Fuzzy logic, acting opening and closing period of proposed by-pass valve

In the Oil industry, oil and gas pipelines are commonly utilized to perform the transportation of production fluids to longer distances. The maintenance of the pipelines passes through the analysis of several tools, in which the most currently used are the pipelines inspection cells, popularly knowing as PIG. Among the variants existing in the market, the instrumented PIG has a significant relevance; acknowledging that through the numerous sensors existing in the equipment, it can detect faults or potential failure along the inspected line. Despite its versatility, the instrumented PIG suffers from speed variations, impairing the reading of sensors embedded in it. Considering that PIG moves depending on the speed of the production fluid, a way to control his speed is to control the flow of the fluid through the pressure control, reducing the flow rate of the produced flow, resulting in reduction of overall production the fluid in the ducts own or with the use of a restrictive element (valve) installed on it. The characteristic of the flow rate/pressure drop from restrictive elements of the orifice plate is deducted usually from the ideal energy equation (Bernoulli?s equation) and later, the losses are corrected normally through experimental tests. Thus, with the objective of controlling the fluids flow passing through the PIG, a valve shutter actuated by solenoid has been developed. This configuration allows an ease control and stabilization of the flow adjustment, with a consequent response in the pressure drops between upstream and downstream of the restriction. It was assembled a test bench for better definition of flow coefficients; composed by a duct with intern diameter of four inches, one set of shutters arranged in a plate and pressure gauges for checking the pressure drop in the test. The line was pressurized and based on the pressure drop it was possible to draw a curve able to characterize the flow coefficient of the control valve prototype and simulate in mockup the functioning, resulting in PIG speed reduction of approximately 68%.

The research aimed to analyze the role of nurses in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in the control of Dengue and Chikungunya fever in the cities of Parnamirim and Santa Cruz. It is exploratory and descriptive nature of research, with a qualitative approach, which was developed with nurses of the Family Health Strategy in the municipalities of Parnamirim and Santa Cruz. All research process followed the ethical standards laid out research in Resolution No. 466/2012 of the National Health Council about research involving human beings. Data collection was performed using a semi-structured questionnaire with open and closed questions, organized into three parts: the profile of respondents, knowledge of the disease (transmission, prevention, control) and description of practices. The actions performed by nurses are punctual performed when there is growing disease of the number of cases in order to try to reduce the number of cases. The principal methodology used for them is to talk and guidelines resulting from campaigns and home visits, using leaflets and social networks. Regarding knowledge of nurses in the city of Santa Cruz on Dengue Fever and Chikungunya, is clearly some gaps. Nursing professionals know recognize a suspected case of dengue, but get confused when trying to explain to the Chikungunya fever, exhibiting the same symptoms of dengue. Although everybody had participated in a training on Chikungunya Fever and Dengue, a very limited knowledge of nurses regarding the clinical management. It is suggested that further studies are developed on the ground a few nurses have accepted to participate in the study, so that we can identify strategies, interventions, activities and nursing actions that are consistent with the reality of working in favor of coping Aedes epidemics aegypti that have positive impact on reducing the infestation rates and may be suitable and applied in other regions.

Abstract:
Between the Vth and VIth century, Ravenna, three times capital city, stands out among the most important centers of the Empire: it’s a bridge between East and West, especially thanks to the wall mosaics of the places of worship, since mosaic art in Ravenna fits perfectly into a cultural and artistic koinè that has the Mediterranean Sea as a common denominator in a similar context of parallel historical and political events. These beautiful and well known mosaics of the Adriatic city, which really look unique in the artistic panorama of the Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages, can offer an interesting comparison with the contemporary parietal decorations in the various centers of the West and the East, and in particular those located in the coastal areas. It’s possible therefore to see differences, and also similarities from the point of view of the iconography, iconology and style. On the basis of the scientific literature and through a polyhedrical examination of the wall mosaic, founded on interdisciplinary methodology, I’ve tried to clarify the complex network of cultural, ideological and artistic works that have involved and still involve Ravenna and the various centers of Late Antiquity, focusing on the plurality, complexity and the confluence of different artistic experiences. For this purpose, artistic and archaeological data have been integrated with historical, hagiographical and epigraphic ones, with appropriate references to architecture, sculpture, decorative arts and miniatures, in order to witness the unity of intent of different artistic media, which, despite the diversity, are oriented towards the same dogmatic, political and celebratory purposes. In conclusion, the main aim of this study is to offer a review and a synthesis of the Mediterranean wall mosaics of the Vth and VIth century, in order to add another “tessera” to the already vast literature written on this topic.

To better predict ecosystem processes, I tested the accuracy and the limits of Grime???s biomass-ratio (BMRH) hypothesis and a novel idiosyncratic annulment (IAH) hypothesis. I applied the biomass-ratio to functional traits, using the community-weighted means (CWM) to estimate the global response of species in mixtures. I studied the decomposition of litter species mixtures as a biological model and asked the following questions : (1) does the BMRH predict well the decomposition rates of mixed species litters? ; (2) does the degree of variability of these rates decrease with increasing species richness (SR) beyond that expected from purely mathematical causes (IAH)? ; (3) does the variability of rates between mixtures decrease with less favourable abiotic conditions for decomposition? ; (4) as more functionally contrasted mixtures are expected to develop more interactions, does the deviation from prediction increase with increasing functional dispersion in mixtures (?? FDis ??, Lalibert?? & Legendre 2010)? This study involves two decomposition experiments using litterbags: (1) at Sherbrooke (QC, Canada), in microcosms, involving litters from six tree species, decomposed alone and in mixtures and (2) in three climatically contrasted sites in the region of Clermont-Ferrand (France) with litters from four herbaceous species, decomposed alone and in mixtures. Despite both positive and negative deviations from expectation occurring at all levels of SR, the BMRH well described the average response of mixed species litters. Although I rejected the IAH, the results showed a convergence to the predicted values based on CWM with (1) increasing the SR in mixtures, (2) increasing the spatial scale of the study and (3) a less favourable climate to decomposition. Finally, although there was a correlation between litter interactions and functional divergence, this relationship was not generalizable and I rejected the hypothesis of a positive correlation between FDis and the deviations from BMRH.

Abstract:
The world we live in is full of material objects that serve as signs and thus are an important tool in literary texts. The purpose of the present essay is to illustrate how material objects are used to portray personalities of female characters, their inner world and attitudes, their ways of life and position in society. It is especially interesting in the context of the 20th century in the Western world, when the culture of consumption was gaining momentum and the role of a woman was gradually changing. The short stories analysed in the essay are written in the Western context in the 20th century, which are “A Perfect Day for Bananafish” by J.D. Salinger, “Moments of Being: ‘Slater’s Pins Have no Points’” by V. Woolf and “The Bottom Line and the Sharp End” by F. Weldon. The material objects mentioned in the texts are classified and analysed due to their role and purpose in the short stories.

Abstract:
The thesis is focused on the Italian period of Bartholomeus Spranger's life, on his artistic development during that time and on the artworks that he created there. Italy of the second half of the 16th century became Spranger's home for ten years. As well as many other artists Spranger set out for a journey to get to know the greatest Italian masterpieces and primarily to gain new and valuable experience. The first opportunity to work waited for him in Parma, but without any doubt, the most important sojourn for him was Rome. Not only did he have the possibility to be inspired by all the masterpieces and masters themselves, but he also had the opportunity to work for the patrons such as cardinal Alessandro Farnese and the pope Pius V. To the imperial court in Vienna, and then Prague, he came as an experienced artist and the Italian sojourn certainly played major role in it. This topic has not been comprehensively complied in the Czech language so far.

6 Abstract This study aimed to compare the mycorrhizal fungal communities inhabiting the roots of invasive Pinus strobus L. and native Pinus sylvestris L. We also compared carbon allocation into ectomycorrhizal fungal (EcMf) and other structures of the two pine species. The aim was to assess the influence of mycorrhiza on the invasive potential of P. strobus in the protected areas of National Park Bohemian Switzerland. The two field experiments were conducted on three locations of each species. We estimated the EcM extramatrical mycelium (EMM) production by measuring the ergosterol content in sterile sand filled mesh-bags. Next measured variables were: biomass of ectomycorrhizal and saprotrophic sporocarps, fine roots biomass and leaf litter biomass to compare the one season production of each measured variables. The results revealed a major difference in EcM sporocarps production, whereas on the P. sylvestris sites was the production 100% higher. Same results came from the fine roots measurements: P. sylvestris had a higher fine roots production, which may be also related with the production of EMM, which was about 60% higher as well. The EcMf species richness on the P. strobus root-tips was as high as the native pine, but the species composition was different. The P. strobus prefers EcMf species with...

We reported an investigation of physical properties of AlGaN films grown on patterned GaN templates. It is found that with the patterned grooved-GaN templates, it is possible to manipulate the formation of the V-shape pits and optical property of AlGaN films. For a trench depth of 1.0 um, the V-shape pits can be greatly suppressed. While the GaN trench depth is up to 1.5 um, a large number of the V-shape pits present along the trench. Cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra show a strong band-edge emission around the V-shape pits. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) data suggest that the spatial variation of intensity is due to the absence of dislocations in the sidewall of the V-shape pit. Cross-sectional CL spectrum and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) show compositional variation in the V-shape pits. The formation of Ga-rich domains exists in the invert apex of the V-shape pits, which induces a large density of non-radiative centers and reduces the emitted intensity. Finally, combining with the scanning Kelvin microscopy measurement, the energy band alignment of the V-shape pits is constructed for the first time, which is very useful for the understanding of physical properties of the V-shape pits.

Abstract:
Pinus oocarpa is one of the most widely cultivated non-native tree species growing on plantations in Zambia. This thesis deals with repeatedly measured data of the growing dynamic of Pinus oocarpa that is then compared to two other forest stands under two different management approaches: one site regularly used controlled fires to regulate the removal of old grass while the other was untouched by fire. Furthermore, two other main objectives will be covered in this paper. The first will be to compare the height and diameter increment of the forest that was exposed to controlled burning. The second goal will be to conduct a dendrochronology analysis by obtaining tree core samples. These samples will aid in determining the annual growth pattern from mature forest stands throughout various parts of the district. The results obtained through the dendrochronology analysis will help to identify the impact of fire on the growth of trees. This data will then be compared to the results gathered from other locations. In essence, this thesis will identify the growth pattern of the Pinus oocarpa and the method of evaluation chosen in this area will serve to either confirm or refute the assumption that controlled forest fires in Choma can have negative impacts on the further growth and development of the Pinus oocarpa stands.

Full text
Abstract:
Graded InGaN buffers are employed to relax the strain arising from the lattice and thermal mismatches between GaN/InGaN epilayers grown on sapphire. The formation of V-pits in linearly graded InGaN/GaN bulk epilayers is illustrated. The V-pits were sampled using Atomic Force Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy to examine their variation from the theoretical geometry shape. We discovered that the size of the V-pit opening in linearly graded InGaN, with and without GaN cap layer, has a Gaussian distribution. As such, we deduce that the V-pits are produced at different rates, as the growth of the InGaN layer progresses. In Stage I, the V-pits form at a slow rate at the beginning and then accelerate in Stage II when a critical thickness is reached before decelerating in Stage III after arriving at a mean size. It is possible to fill the V-pits by growing a GaN cap layer. It turns out that the filling of the V-pits is more effective at lower growth temperature of the GaN cap layer and the size of the V-pits opening, which is continued in to GaN cap layer, is not dependent on the GaN cap layer thickness. Furthermore, graded InGaN/GaN layers display better strain relaxation as compared to conventionally grown bulk GaN. By employing a specially design configuration, the V-pits can be eliminated from the InGaN epilayer.

Abstract:
Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) is a long-term economically preferred woody species not only from the standpoint of its wood production but also thanks to its tolerance to extreme climatic factors, environmental modesty, and resistance to drought stress. In recent years, however, due to the action of the changing climatic conditions, this economically significant woody species withers. Its increment in the natural ecotype is affected by the adaptability to the increasing intensity of temperature extremes (prolonged heat waves). The combination of the lack of precipitation and extremely high air temperatures (even in the spring season) will significantly affect the resistance of this woody species to drought stress. This thesis is focused on the analysis of the secondary xylem and phloem cells formation of Scots pine depending on the physiological and morphological changes due to the affecting drought stress. Within the scope of the forming radial cells in individual growing seasons (2013–2016), it has been evaluated how the synergy of the specific factors affecting the overall anatomic structure of the annual ring and the vitality of the examined woody species was expressed in the formation, differentiation, and overall structure of the cells. During the four growing seasons (2013–2016), micro-cores (diameter 1.8 mm) were taken in weekly intervals in the research area in Sobesice of xylem and phloem (including the cambial zone) using the Trephor increment borer. From these micro-cores, permanent microscopic slides of the cross-section were made, on which the analysis of the cambial activity, cell formation, cell differentiation with time, and the evaluation of the morphometric parameters of the formed of xylem and phloem cells were performed. It was found that in each monitored growing season, the drought stress has shown, which was reflected by the dropped of the soil water potential (below -1 MPa) and the intensity of transpiration, which led to the stress reaction of the cambium. The reaction of the drought-stressed cambial zone has been expressed by the decreased activity (a sudden drop of the number of dividing cells) and subsequently, during the recurrence of precipitation, by the reactivation when an increase of the number of dividing cells was observed again. This factor initiated the formation of the intra-annual density fluctuations (IADF), i.e. the formation of the so-called false annual ring. The sensitive reaction of the cambium to the drought stress affected the cell production time, the number of formed cells, and also the time of differentiation of individual tracheids, which was expressed by the reduction of the radial dimensions and cell wall thickness of the tracheids. The artificially induced stress by stem girdling intensified the concurrent drought factor and in the area below the girdling, the cambial activity has stopped within two weeks after the performed treatment. The formed cells were not fully differentiated, so the zone of typically thick-walled cells of latewood was missing in the annual ring. The following growing season, the radial increment was only formed in the area above the girdling (without the latewood zone) and in the second half of the growing season, the trees gradually died. The activity of the plant hormone IAA was also affected by the drought in the summer season, when its concentration dropped below the measurability threshold (2 µg sample-1). At the time of the IAA concentration drop, latewood tracheids began to form and the phloem cell formation was completed. The synthesis and activity of the soluble low-molecular carbohydrates correlated with the course of the cambial activity and the cell differentiation phases, where the dynamics of the concentration also matched the timing of the formation of the individual cell formation phases. With phloem cells, a significant variability in the morphological dimensions has not been observed compared to xylem cells. The phenology of the needles indicated the cell wall formation phases and the initiation of the latewood tracheids. Due to the fact that the needles were fully formed in the season of the spring tracheids formation, their phenology did not reflect the drought stress which was recorded mainly in the summer season. Also, the increment of phloem was formed in the spring season. It has been presented for a long time that coniferous woody species react to the drought stress by thicker cell walls formation of the latewood tracheids. However, it has been observed within the scope of the research of this thesis that the water deficit affected the cambial activity, which has expressed itself on the intensity of the cell formation and the time of their differentiation. Due to this process, tracheids with smaller radial dimensions and a narrower cell wall were formed. This gradually causes structural changes of the formed annual ring, where the typically earlywood and latewood tracheids (classified according to radial dimensions and thicknesses of cell walls) may form independently on the growth seasonality. Especially in cases of IADF formation or in combination with the case where latewood is not even formed, a problem with the validity of the classification according to the so-called Mork’s criterion begins to occur. The understanding of the effect of the specific metabolic and physiological changes on xylem and phloem formation of Scots pine helps to clarify the issues of forestation and overall wood production of this economically significant woody species.

This dissertation thesis deals with two aspects of Eastern white pine. The first objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of the amount of solar radiation on the parameters of natural regenerated Eastern white pine individuals -- density, height, stem diameter, height increment and crown morphological parameters. The second objective of this work was to compare the production potential (stem volume, stock) of Eastern white pine and native Scots pine. For both purposes were selected forests stands with appropriate representation of Eastern white pine in Hradec Králové municipal forests. For the first objective study showed that the amount of light is a key factor in relation to Eastern white pine regeneration. Increasing amount of light significantly affects both density and growth parameters (height, stem diameter, height increment) of natural regenerated individuals. Effect of light on crown morphological parameters has not been proved. For the second objective evaluation of data showed that same old Eastern white pine in the same habitat reaches significantly greater stem volume than Scots pine in the order of several tens of percent, depending on the age of forests stand.

The aim of this master´s thesis was the evaluation of options that should lead to the elimination of the harmful effects of the white grubs of Melolontha hippocastani to the gradational area of Moravian Sahara (part of forest maintenance LS Stážnice, the Bzenec district). The effectiveness of chosen preparations (Force 1,5 G and Actara 25 WP) on the white grubs of Melolontha hippocastani was observed and conducted under controlled conditions in the ´container experiment´ with 380 seedlings of Pinus sylvestris. This experiment was repeatedly conducted five times over a period of 3 years. The results show that the most effective preparation against the white grubs is Actara 25 WG (200 up to 400 g/ha/600 l water) in the form of watering. This preparation in the form of spraying was ineffective. Inconsistent results were reached with the preparation Force 1,5 G. At the same time, the vertical movements of white grubs during their development stages in the soil were being observed over the period of 2015–2018. This observation took place in the drill holes of the following proportions 50 x 50 x 60–140 cm. The results confirmed that the depth of wintering of the white grubs and their movements during their vegetative state depends on the soil´s temperature and moisture, and the available sources of food to the current instar of the white grub.

The thesis deals with the process of reconciliation in Polish-German relations after 1945. Lily Gardner Feldman's invented a concept which defines the prerequisites for the reconciliation process. In her concept she defines four essential pillars of the reconciliation process - history, leadership, institutions and international context. Although Polish-German relations have undergone a long development and both sides have built up a stable and firm mutual relationship, it is possible to see changes within the four categories mentioned. The aim of this thesis is to outline the process of reconciliation in Polish-German relations after 1945 and capture the qualitative changes in mutual relations during the first rule of the Law and Justice party between 2005 and 2007, which represented a critical point in Polish-German relations and a change in the Polish foreign policy towards Germany since 1989. Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the gifts of Czech and Moravian nobility to the church during the High Middle Ages. The pious gifts (Donations) are fundamental for the understanding of medieval devotion and for some aspects of medieval society. In the Middle Ages, the last wills and testaments expressed people's wishes, attitudes and intentions with respect both to these worldly and other matters. They express attitudes to other family members, to property, to life and death, to community and social groups, to the Church, to Saints and to God. The pious donations, support for the poor and the burial near Saints open up the gates to Heaven. But the pious donations are not only a part of one's care for the soul and redemption in the Middle Ages. The donations have complicated background. These gifts expressed religious, economic, political and representative intentions of the donors. The Pious gifts are a good tool for research of this part of society. The main aim of thesis is to describe the pious gifts given by the Czech and Moravian nobility from 1200 till mid-14th century. The Thesis based on the analysis of individual donations describes the spectrum of motivation for these gifts and also to describe the function which gifts had in society. The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out whether pigs exhibit laterality in social behavior, especially the laterality of rotational movements in game behavior and social interactions. We aimed also to explore how this laterality is influenced by other factors, especially the possibilities of playful behavior in ontogenesis, personality and others social and non-social factors. Alternatively, whether the degree of laterality determined varies depending on the social situation (game / aggression) and whether is influenced by the litter. I have investigated this behavior for 64 pigs in 16 litters from videotapes of their social behavior. For each pig, I recorded the playing element and the preferential side. For individual game elements I did not find any preference for rotation at the population level and only a slight tendency for individual laterality. For social game elements, I have shown a weak population tendency to prefer left side, but only for a group of more playing pigs. The main contribution of this work is the symmetry found in the implementation of individual game elements and, on the contrary, the observed laterality at the population level for social game behavior. Since the laterality of playful behavior has not yet been investigated, it is possible that this symmetry is...

Sand Pits have great potential to restore via spontaneous succession. There are not many studies of the development of soils in sand pits; therefore, this work focuses on the development of soil properties in sand pits comparing technically reclaimed sites and sites with primary succession. 120 samples were collected at fourteen sand pits in South Bohemia and selected soil properties were assessed. The surveyed plot were grouped according to age, and the successional and technically reclaimed sites were distinguished. The results were evaluated by analysis of variation and regression analysis. The differences in soil bulk density, pH, thickness of soil organic horizon, Cox, N and C/N ratio between reclaimed and spontaneously restored sites of different age were analysed. The bulk density and pH decrease significantly on successional sites; however, the reclaimed sites do not show signifiant differences. Organic horizon thickness increases with age on both types of sites.Cox, N and C/N ratio do not show significant influence age. Lower values of Cox, N and C/N were measured in initial stages of succession. On the reclaimed sites there is almost no change in values of Cox, N and C/N ratio, because of the occurrence of nutrient-richer substráte used during technical reclamation. Keywords: soil...

This diploma thesis is focused on animal play behaviour, it's features and factors that influence it. It also shows how play can be used as an animal welfare indicator and moreover that play may also improve welfare. Play is interesting from physiology and neurology point of view as well because it is able to trigger positive emotions. This thesis also describes the main hypotheses explaing evolutionary functions of play. The newest hypothesis claims that play may be a "training for the unexpected"(Špinka et al., 2001). Our experiments tested this hypothesis. We investigated if play of piglets before weaning could improve their coping with stress and reduce agonistic behaviour after weaning and later in life. Results show that play in an extra space before weaning does not influence pig's behaviour very much, but it seems to have some impact. Results also show other factors influencing agonistic behaviour of pigs - groupsize, gender and weight gain.

Abstract:
Pinus mugo Turra (sensu lato) is a prostrate shrub growing above the alpine timberline in the mountain ranges of Southern, Central and Eastern Europe. It is well adapted to the harsh alpine environment creating different mechanisms for survival. The research was carried out in Krkonoše Mountains on base of Pinus mugo individuals compared with Picea abies trees. Samples from shrubs were gathered using serial sectioning from four sites in different elevations located on Sněžka Mountain and Smogornia Ridge. Further analysis of the sampled material was made with the help of different detrending methods to see which method will return the best growth response to climate parameters. RCS detrending and detrending via simple averaging reflected the best climate signal contained in dwarf pine chronologies. The advantage of these methods is based on their ability to reflect growth conditions of the particular site. Upper sites showed significant correlations with temperatures of the growing season, while on lower sites the signal was quite unclear. The amount of precipitation plays the significant role on shrub growth during the vegetation period (especially July month) and early spring when water is very important for growth initiation. Upper Pinus mugo sites showed high sensitivity to droughts, especially...

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the influence of microclimatic conditions (air temperature near tree/shrub top, temperature of the stem and root zone) on the wood phenology of trees (Picea abies) and shrubs (Pinus mugo) growing on the same site in the alpine tree line (ATL) ecotone. Phenological and microclimatic research was carried out in the Giant Mountains at 1,370 m a. s. l. in the 2017 vegetation period, with the aim to compare the course of wood formation depending on the microclimate, to determine the temperature thresholds of wood growth and differences in the morphology of trees and shrubs. Based on the microclimate analysis of trees and shrubs, individual variables were determined (average, average minimum, average maximum, daily amplitude of air, stem and root zone temperatures) characterizing the growing season. The collection of micro-drills of trees and shrubs took place from April to October in an interval of 6 - 11 days, which were subsequently processed and examined in the laboratory. The following phenophases of wood development were distinguished: cambial, enlarging, wall-thickening, mature cells and cells of the previous ring. Subsequently, differences in the number of cells of individual phenophases were identified between trees and shrubs. Furthermore, the temperature thresholds for...

Abstract:
The thesis deals with the U.S. foreign policy towards Cuba in the years 1958-1965. It analyses sources of U.S.-Cuban hostility at the beginning of the Fidel Castro era. It shows, how the U.S. foreign policy and the beginning of Cold war contributed to polarization as well as radicalization of politics in Cuba. Thus, it analyses the change of a local conflict into the "international civil war". The aim of the thesis is to argue that Cuba influenced the global balance of power between the Soviet Union and the United States at the beginning of 1960's. The introductory chapters summarize the causes of the Cuban Revolution, the U.S. policy toward friendly dictators, mainly toward Fulgencio Batista in Cuba. Next part deals with the guerilla warfare against Batista and the extent of U.S. influence on this insurrection. The thesis uses a multi-archival research of the U.S. as well as Czech and British sources. The comparison of sources shows the extent of independent Cuban actions and helps to comprehend the logic of the Eastern-European foreign policy. The thesis further analyses the U.S. reaction on Cuban Revolution as well as causes and consequences of the Cuban Missile crisis. Moreover, it deals with the possibilities of improvement in the U.S.-Cuban relations. Last but not least it also analyses the...
