Full textPre-processing vibration signals in harsh conditions such as the aeronautic conditions seems a complicated task. The operating conditions are nonstationary and the motor exhibits at least two harmonic non-linear families related to low and high pressure shaft. Furthermore, the design constraints impose a reduced number of accelerometers (generally two) which is unfortunately insufficient to detect all the shaft related phenomena. The acoustic signals are not subjected to the latter constraint. However, they are very noisy in comparison to vibration signals and may not detect low energy problems and very low frequency phenomena. Besides, the obtained signals depend strongly on the microphone position and its directivity in addition to the problem of clipping with medium to high acoustic pressure values. Thus, the PhD objective is to propose methods robust to mainly (i) the interference between different linear and non-linearly related phenomena, (ii) the nonstationary operating conditions and (iii) the broadband noise phenomena. These scientific difficulties are considered through (1) a blind detection of spectral peaks, (2) the estimation of the instantaneous speed and (3) the estimation of the deterministic/tonal component

Full textand observations with better spectral resolution are needed to determine the exact transitions. The source spectrum is better explained with photoionized plasma model rather than the cooling flow model. It has also been found that the neutral Hydrogen column density differs for orbital minimum and orbital maximum spectra with values 0.25 (+0.23 -0:18)*10^22 atoms/cm2 and 0.64 (+0.13 -0.14)*10^22 atoms/cm2 respectively at 3 sigma confidence level. The difference of neutral Hydrogen column density between the maximum and minimum phase spectra indicates existence of a warm absorbing region on the disc at the location of the impact zone.

Full textThe advent of high power femtosecond lasers has paved the way to a promising and still largely unexplored branch of physics called Ultra-High Intensity physics (UHI). Once such a laser is focused on a solid target, the laser intensity I₀ can reach values as large as 10¹⁸⁻²⁰ W.cm⁻², for which matter is fully ionized. The plasma thus formed expands towards vacuum on a spatial scale characterized by a quantity Lg called the density gradient scale length. When Lg << λ₀ (laser wavelength), the dense plasma therefore acts as an optical mirror that specularly reflects the incident light: it is a plasma mirror. This remarkable physical system can be used in many scientific applications as compact source of high-energy and high-charge particle beams (electrons, ions) or bright source of radiations ranging from extreme ultraviolet-rays to X-rays through high harmonic generation processes. In order to finely control these sources, it is required to properly identify the different coupling mechanisms between light and matter at play during the interaction. In this manuscript, this has been made possible by performing accurate Particle-In-Cell (PIC) simulations with the WARP+PXR code. This recently developed code advances Maxwell’s equations in Fourier space, which proves to correctly model harmonic/electron emissions that standard codes fail to accurate describe even at high resolution. Based on WARP+PXR PIC simulations, we investigate the influence of Lg on the experimentally observed emission of light and particles, when a high-power laser pulse (I₀ = 10¹⁹ W.cm⁻²) reflects off a dense plasma. Our study reveals an unambiguous transition from a temporally periodic mechanism to a chaotic process as the interface becomes smoother. In particular, the latter mechanism, named stochastic heating, is fully characterized as well as its domain of validity in terms of laser-plasma parameters. In this regime, electrons in the underdense part of the gradient are exposed to the standing wave formed in front of the overcritical part of the plasma by superposition of incidence and reflected beams. While evolving in the two waves, electrons behave chaotically and absorb an important fraction of the laser energy. The nature of the interaction is revealed by reducing the equations of motion of particles in two waves to physical systems, such Kapitza’s pendulum, well-known to exhibit chaos. That correspondence gives deep physical intuitions on how electrons behave in different laser configurations, which allows us to predict major features of stochastic heating

Full textBacterial typing is crucial to tackle the spread of bacterial pathogens but current methods are time-consuming and costly. The objective of this study was to evaluate the ability of MALDI-TOF MS to type the 3 main bacterial species re.sponsible for nosocomial infections - Escherichia coti, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Analysis of MALDI-TOF mass spectra allow the identification (i) of E. coti isolates belonging to phylogroup B2, that fosters the most virulent extra-intestinal strains, and (ii) of E. coli STl 31, a clone involved in the dissemination of extended-spectrum β-lactamases. MALDI-TOF MS also recognizes S. aureus isolates belonging to CC398, a pathogen responsible for invasive infections in fragile patients and associated with a higher 30-day mortality. Furthermore the MALDI-TOF MS based typing method identifies the major high risk epidemic clones of P. aeruginosa STl 11, STl 75, ST235, ST253, and ST395. We confirmed phylogroup B2 specific peaks also described by other authors. However the identification of E. coli STl 31 or epidemic clones of S. aureus is based on biomarkers that differs between studies. Different parameters can influence the MALDI-TOF MS typing results and must therefore be standardized. MALDI-TOF-based typing methods allow the detection of epidemic pathogens. Keeping in mind that the choice of a method for routine bacterial typing should be made according to the objectives but also the performance of the different systems available, the MALDI-TOF MS technique could become a first-line typing method

Because The classical Nevanlinna-Pick Theorem plays a very important role in the robust control theory, we like to introduce three worth-reading proofs of the theorem. Furthermore we will develop into the area of spectral Nevanlinna-Pick problem: discuss some interpolation problems and properties on the symmetrized-bidisc , and calculate the volume and surface area of symmetrized-bidisc and symmetrized-tridisc, and gives the general integral form to represent the volume of symmetrized-n-disc.

The spectral Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation theory is the main tool to setup the define theory for Mu-synthesis theory for robust controller design and is still under development. For 2x2 case only the solutions with 2 interpolating points is solved. In present thesis, we study how to construct the solutions corresponding to the 3 in-terpolating points with 3 cases on the symmetrized bidisc. Furthermore, the idea to solve interpolating points is also discussed.
Jahanbakhsh, Seyedehameneh. "Molecular characterization of extended-spectrum cephalosporin-resistance in Escherichia coli in pigs on-farm and from clinical cases throughout Quebec, Canada during 16 years." Thèse, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/15962.
Full textDevelopment of multidrug resistance in Escherichia coli is an important problem in animal and human medicine. Further, emergence and spread of determinants for resistance to third generation extended-spectrum cephalosporins (ESCs) such as the critically important cephalosporins in human medicine (e.g. ceftriaxone and ceftiofur) among isolates is a public health concern. Thus, the objectives of the present thesis were (1) to study the dynamic of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) phenotypes as well as virulence and AMR gene profiles in E. coli from pigs receiving a feed medicated with chlortetracycline and penicillin G following weaning and to study the effect of feed supplementation with a clay mineral, clinoptilolite, on this dynamic; (2) To investigate the mechanisms leading to an increase in the prevalence of blaCMY-2 conferring resistance to ceftiofur in pigs receiving medicated feed but which had not received ceftiofur, and to examine the effect of feed supplementation with a clay mineral on this phenomenon; and (3) to investigate the temporal characterization of clinical isolates of ceftiofur-resistant E.coli from diseased pigs in Quebec, Canada from 1997, when ceftiofur resistance was first reported, to 2012. In the initial study, prevalence of resistance to 10 antimicrobial agents, including ceftiofur, increased over time in E.coli isolates from weaned pigs. A late increase in the frequency of blaCMY-2, the gene encoding resistance to ceftiofur, and the presence of virulence genes iucD and tsh were observed in the isolates. Feed supplementation with clinoptilolite was associated with an early increase but later decrease in the frequency of the blaCMY-2 gene in isolates. Concurrently, a later increase in the frequency of the blaCMY-2 and the virulence genes iucD and tsh was observed in the control pig isolates, being significantly greater than in the supplemented pigs at day 28. Diversity among the blaCMY-2-positive E. coli isolates with respect to AMR patterns was observed. Certain clonal lineages of E. coli became predominant with time. The clonal lineage of phylotype A predominated in the supplemented group, whereas the clonal lineages of phylotype B1 which often possessed the ExPEC-associated virulence gene iucD, predominated in the control group. The blaCMY-2-carrying plasmids of incompatibility (Inc) groups, I1, A/C, and ColE were observed in transformants. In ESC-resistant E.coli clinical isolates from diseased pigs in Quebec, from 1997 to 2012, blaCMY-2 was the most frequently detected β-lactamase gene, followed by blaTEM and blaCTX-M and clonal analysis showed high diversity. E. coli isolates with identical PFGE patterns were found in multiple farms in the same year and also in different years. Resistance to gentamicin, kanamycin, chloramphenicol, and the frequency of blaTEM and IncA/C significantly decreased over the study time, whereas the frequency of IncI1 and multidrug-resistance to seven antimicrobial categories significantly increased over time. Emergence of blaCTX-M-positive, extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli isolates was observed in 2011 and 2012 from distinct clonal lineages and multiple farms. Taken together, this work gives some insight into the spread of ceftiofur resistance in E.coli isolates from pigs. Results reveal that in weaned pigs receiving medicated feed on one farm in which an increase in ceftiofur resistance was observed, the blaCMY-2-positive E.coli resistant to ESCs belonged to several different clonal lineages with diverse AMR patterns. The blaCMY-2 gene spread both horizontally and clonally in E. coli. Feed supplementation with clinoptilolite and time period after weaning influenced the clonality and the prevalence of blaCMY-2 gene in E. coli. In ceftiofur-resistant E.coli strains isolated from diseased pigs in farms throughout Quebec over a 16 year period, several different pathogenic clonal lineages were observed, although none was persistent or predominant over the study time. The results suggest that blaCMY-2 gene spreads both horizontally and clonally on and between farms. Furthermore, blaCMY-2 was the major β-lactamase gene in these isolates. From 2011, we report the emergence of blaCTX-M in distinct clonal lineages.

The next generation of mobile communications (5G), which is in a development stage, promises to offer high data transmission rates, and at the same time, improve the spectral and power efficiency of the communication systems and thereby revolutionize the daily life communication worldwide. of the great challenges in telecom systems projects is how hard it is to ensure all the previous requisites once they’re contradictory. Namely, spectrally efficent modulation techniques are characterized by an high PAPR, which demands the use of low energy efficiency HPA. To ensure linear amplification without signal distortion, we must compromise the relationship between energy efficiency and linear amplification. Given this, the choice of the HPA is crucial in this project. The LINC technique can be a good solution to resolve the challenges refered before. This technique consists in separate a signal in two constants envelope signals, each being amplified by an NL-HPA characterized by high power efficiency. After combining the two constant envelope signals, we obtain an amplified replica of the original signal. Recently, it has been proposed an optimization and a generalization of LINC technique called MB-LINC. For that we have to separate the original signal into N>2 signals with constant envelope that are after amplified by N NL-HPA. That hasa goal of soften the disadvantages of the original LINC technique. In this dissertation the proof of concept with the real demo of LINC technique in software defined radio (SDR) using USRP B210 plataforms. A simulation is also executed to analyze the performance of LINC and MB-LINC systems. These simulations are performed for situations of gain or phase imbalances between the branches of non-linear amplification. Furthermore, the variation in imbalance is also analyzed according to the increase number of branches. These results served as a reference to the test of the LINC SDR based system and it was possible tovalidate that there were inline with the simulated results.
