Abstract:
Men who undergo long-term androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) may experience systemic side effects similar to the classical metabolic syndrome. Exercise is a potential strategy for offsetting the adverse effects of ADT among patients with prostate cancer, resulting in improved muscular resistance and positive outcomes on body size and composition. Fitness (aerobic capacity), fatigue, and certain quality of life (QOL) outcomes may also improve in response to a regular exercise regimen. Caution and cardiovascular screening is merited given the elderly population with this disease.

Full text
Abstract:
Cancer is predominantly a disease affecting older persons. 43% of new cancer cases in Canada occur among those who are at least 70 years old, while 25% occur in those aged 60--69 years. Cancer fatigue is the most common symptom associated with cancer and its treatment, and is often the most distressing symptom reported by cancer patients. Cancer fatigue adversely affects physical activity levels, physical function, and quality of life. Physical function is essential to older adults in maintaining independence and associated quality of life which is often more important to older adults than cancer survival. Recent research studies suggest that physical activity may reduce fatigue, and maintain or improve physical function levels and quality of life in cancer patients during and following treatment. This thesis examines cancer fatigue and its relationship to physical activity, physical function, and quality of life in older adults with cancer. The results of a systematic review and the findings of a secondary analysis research study are presented. The systematic review provided evidence that physical activity may reduce fatigue in older cancer patients during and after cancer treatment and may help to maintain or improve physical function and quality of life in this population. Results of the secondary analysis indicated that cancer fatigue is prevalent and was the most frequently reported symptom at baseline, three months and six months post consultation for cancer treatment. Cancer fatigue was associated with lower levels of physical function and quality of life. Physical activity, a modifiable factor, was found to be significantly related to cancer fatigue at three months and six months, regardless of age, and was significantly related to physical function at six months.

Klein, Robert S. "Neuropsychological Functioning in Active Duty Soldiers with Physical and/or Psychological Trauma." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2010. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc33180/.

Abstract:
This quasi-experimental study investigates neuropsychological functioning differences between 63 active duty soldiers who were placed into three groups (MTBI, PTSD, control) to provide better information for differentiating PTSD and MTBI. The ANAM and MicroCog were utilized to measure psychomotor speed, memory, and attention. Participants with PTSD performed worse on most measures of psychomotor speed and attention, and endorsed more symptoms of depression and anxiety when compared to MTBI and control participants. Further, attention appears to be the best cognitive domain for differentiating PTSD from MTBI, whereas memory variables did not differentiate these groups. Clinical and research implications of these findings are discussed.

Bourassa, Kyle J., Molly Memel, Cindy Woolverton, and David A. Sbarra. "Social participation predicts cognitive functioning in aging adults over time: comparisons with physical health, depression, and physical activity." ROUTLEDGE JOURNALS, TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/622789.

Full text
Abstract:
Objectives: Several risk and protective factors are associated with changes in cognitive functioning in aging adults - including physical health, depression, physical activity, and social activities - though the findings for participation in social activities are mixed. This study investigated the longitudinal association between social participation and two domains of cognitive functioning, memory and executive function. A primary goal of our analyses was to determine whether social participation predicted cognitive functioning over-and-above physical health, depression, and physical activity in a sample with adequate power to detect unique effects. Method: The sample included aging adults (N = 19,832) who participated in a large, multi-national study and provided data across six years; split into two random subsamples. Unique associations between the predictors of interest and cognitive functioning over time and within occasion were assessed in a latent curve growth model. Results: Social participation predicted both domains of cognitive functioning at each occasion, and the relative magnitude of this effect was comparable to physical health, depression, and physical activity level. In addition, social participation at the first time point predicted change in cognitive functioning over time. The substantive results in the initial sample were replicated in the second independent subsample. Conclusion: Overall, the magnitude of the association of social participation is comparable to other well-established predictors of cognitive functioning, providing evidence that social participation plays an important role in cognitive functioning and successful aging.

Abstract:
Physical and mathematical modeling is widely used in scientific research. This is due to the fact that field experiments on real construction sites are often impossible to organize for various reasons. The material included in the textbook is a summary of the authors ' experience in the field of system analysis. In the first section, the regularities of physical modeling of the functioning of objects based on the similarity and dimension theorems are considered. The second section presents modern models and methods for choosing optimal solutions: linear, nonlinear, stochastic, and statistical. The third section deals with experimental methods of system optimization based on the theory of experimental planning. Meets the requirements of the federal state educational standards of higher education of the latest generation. For students of higher educational institutions studying in the direction of training 08.04.01 "Construction", and graduate students of higher educational institutions. Abstract:
Review question / Objective: The objective of the present study is, through the methodology of systematic review, to identify the benefits in QoL, starting from a PE program in individuals with ID and relate them to the model of Schalock et al. (2002). Condition being studied: In individuals with ID, characterized by a deficit of intellectual and adaptive functioning in the conceptual, social and practical domains, identified with mild, moderate, severe and profound degrees and develops before 18 or 22 years old (American Psychiatric Association, 2013; Schalock et al., 2010; 2021), measuring QoL allows: i) to understand their degree of satisfaction; ii) understand personal perceptions; iii) support decision-making; iv) evaluate the intervention; v) evaluate theoretical models. This measurement allows us to direct the individual to the life he likes and values (Schalock & Verdugo, 2002). Thus, the objective of the present study is, through the methodology of systematic review, to identify the benefits in QoL, starting from a PE program in individuals with ID and relate them to the model of Schalock et al. (2002).

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of all current acupuncture therapies for the treatment of CRF through network meta-analysis. Condition being studied: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) has been defined as a distressing, persistent, subjective sense of physical, emotional, and/or cognitive tiredness or exhaustion related to cancer and/or cancer treatment that is not proportional to recent activity and interferes with usual functioning, as one of the most common symptoms in cancer and related therapies, presents a huge challenge to the quality of life for cancer patients. Unlike general fatigue that can be relieved with rest, CRF is more debilitating, more persistent, and manifests itself in various ways, both physically and mentally. The estimated prevalence of CRF varies widely by various fatigue evaluation indicators, types of cancer, and cancer treatments, ranging from 14.03% to 100%, however, the latest systematic review show that it can have a pooled prevalence of up to 52%, this deserves our attention. But there has been no gold standard treatment for CRF.

Shaw, Jackie, Masa Amir, Tessa Lewin, Jean Kemitare, Awa Diop, Olga Kithumbu, Danai Mupotsa, and Stella Odiase. Contextualising Healing Justice as a Feminist Organising Framework in Africa. Institute of Development Studies, August 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/ids.2022.063.

Full text
Abstract:
Healing justice is a political organising framework that aims to address the systemic causes of injustice experienced by marginalised peoples due to the harmful impacts of oppressive histories, intergenerational trauma, and structural violence. It recognises that these damaging factors generate collective trauma, which manifests in negative physical, mental–emotional, and spiritual effects in activists and in the functioning of their movements. Healing justice integrates collective healing in political organising processes, and is contextualised as appropriate to situational needs. This provided the rationale for a research study to explore the potential of healing justice for feminist activists in Africa, and how pathways to collective healing could be supported in specific contexts. Research teams in DRC, Senegal, and South Africa conducted interviews with feminist activists and healers, in addition to supplementary interviews across sub-regions of Africa and two learning events with wider stakeholders.

Zimmermann, Ivan, Maria Gonçalves, Loraine Dal-Ri, and Lais Morais. Systematic review on the utility values of health states in patients with herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia. INPLASY - International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols, July 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.37766/inplasy2022.7.0125.

Full text
Abstract:
Review question / Objective: The study aims to synthesize, through a review of existing scientific literature, the Health State Utility Value (HSUV) of patients with herpes zoster or postherpetic neuralgia. Condition being studied: Herpes zoster is caused by the reactivation of a primary varicella zoster virus infection. Postherpetic neuralgia is the most common complication, which is defined as pain in a dermal distribution that is maintained for at least 90 days after the rash. The pain caused by postherpetic neuralgia is often debilitating and affects physical functioning, psychological and well-being. Thus, the postherpetic neuralgia has a profound negative impact on functional status and quality of life, and generally results in substantial utilization of health services. An increase in the incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia and herpes zoster is expected, due to the increase in life expectancy, therefore, the result of this review may be important for public policy decisions.

Abstract:
Based on literature review it was established that the use of augmented reality as an innovative technology of student training occurs in following directions: 3D image rendering; recognition and marking of real objects; interaction of a virtual object with a person in real time. The main advantages of using AR and VR in the educational process are highlighted: clarity, ability to simulate processes and phenomena, integration of educational disciplines, building an open education system, increasing motivation for learning, etc. It has been found that in the field of physical process modelling the Proteus Physics Laboratory is a popular example of augmented reality. Using the Proteus environment allows to visualize the functioning of the functional nodes of the computing system at the micro level. This is especially important for programming systems with limited resources, such as microcontrollers in the process of training future IT professionals. Experiment took place at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko with students majoring in Computer Science (field of knowledge is Secondary Education (Informatics)). It was found that computer modelling has a positive effect on mastering the basics of microelectronics. The ways of further scientific researches for grounding, development and experimental verification of forms, methods and augmented reality, and can be used in the professional training of future IT specialists are outlined in the article.

Abstract:
Lake Arakhley is located within the Lake Baikal basin in Eastern Siberia, Russia. The area is characterized by continental subarctic climate with considerate diurnal temperature range, long cold dry winters and short hot summers with more precipitation occurring during the latter half of the summer. Climatic shifts in high water years and low water years result in morphometric changes in the lake and in the chemical and physical parameters of the ecosystem. During low water years, concentrations of ammonium nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen are decreased, whereas nitrate concentration increases. High water years feature average concentrations of ammonium ions 1.5–2 times higher than the values of recent dry years. Redundancy analysis (RDA) of abiotic factors and biotic community indicated that the community structure shows the greatest correlation with physical and chemical parameters of water and biogenic elements (nitrites, ammonium, phosphates) along the first axis, and with the lake depth and transparency along the second axis. Changes in abiotic factors induce functioning and formation of characteristic communities of the primary producers in the trophic structure of the ecosystem. During low water years, with increased level of autochthonous organic matter, Lindavia comta dominance is observed, while during high water years, with increased allochthonous organic matter Asterionella formosa appeared as dominant. Currently, during low water years, the hydrophytes community is monodominant and composed of Ceratophyllum demersum. Meanwhile, such species indicating eutrophic conditions as Myriophyllum sibiricum, Potamogeton pectinatus are found in the lake vegetation.
