Abstract:

The relation between film and philosophy is a relation marked by tensions. The article’s aim is to unfold these tensions and to fathom them out. The figure of Wittgenstein as a philosopher and film spectator serves as a leitmotif throughout the course of the argument. Following the lines based in this motif, the philosophical unavailability of film becomes apparent. In order to understand what we mean by film and do with films, a specific aesthetic perspective is essential. This means, in particular, that film is to be understood within the practice of art. Eventually the author presents approaches to such a view in short conceptual reflections.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract: This article is an introduction to Heidegger’s criticism of reason. It aims at highlighting that the role religion played in Heidegger’s formation – either through his early Catholicism, or through his posterior encounter with Lutheranism – was not merely of biographical interest, but had true philosophical significance. The criticism of modern rationalism, fed by the Catholic polemic against modernism, converged with the assimilation of Husserlian phenomenology and its anti-empiristic perspective. Therefore, far from bringing the philosopher close to the irrationality that prevailed among the “philosophies of life”, the theological motive functioned as a “generator of reason”. It was not only an element of critical distanciation from the primacy of epistemology that would inexorably draw philosophy towards the impasse of psychologism, but also a commitment to the ontological meaning, inherent to reason itself.

Abstract An interdisciplinary study of dream motivation in Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, using Freud’s dream analysis as a theoretical framework for interpreting the dream motif in the novel. Following R.D.Laing, who in The Self and Others proposed Dostoevsky’s protagonist, Raskolnikov, as the victim of his mother’s duplicity, and also drawing on Mikhail Bakhtin’s analysis of “microdialog”, I show that the dream in which Raskolnikov re-enacts the murder of Alyona, the money-lender, is a disguise (dream symbol) for his wishing his mother dead (dream work) and that, though he never becomes conscious of it, Raskolnikov is restored to mental health only when his mother is, in reality, dead. I maintain that such a covert explanation for Raskolnikov’s crime can only be accounted for in the “hidden architecture” (Foucault) of the narrative, but that, following Freud, there may still remain obscurities which resist interpretation.

Abstract:
AbstractHobbesian anthropology makes use of the wolf motif, a Roman and Republican one, by which Hobbes defines a state of nature as a state of war where men live in diffidence each other and where fear is law; the wolf is there a timid or unsociable animal, not a sanguinary or savage creature. But against ancient philosophers and moral writers – Aristotle, Cicero – who regard man as a rational being and who believe in a right reason, the modern philosopher reuses this motif to set before men eyes that monarchy is the only way to protect citizens from gatherings of wolves in the city; reflections on civil wars conduct him to side with the sovereign power of one. Against upholders of regicide who compare the king to a tyrant, Hobbes inscribes the political motif of the wolf in his text by which beast – 'arrant wolf ' – is distinguishable from animal; he mainly rewrites it on Seneca's text, the Stoic who expounded a desperate vision of humankind. By focusing on a Graeco-Roman heritage, this study shows in three parts that the philosopher of De Cive and Leviathan is not really – not only – the man of a pessimistic view on mankind; it is a portrait of a Renaissance philosopher who never, exactly, wrote that 'man is a wolf to man'.

Abstract:
This article examines Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s reference to Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis” and “Investigations of a Dog” in his lecture on gesture and reconciliation, “Man Seen from the Outside.” Given the centrality of gesture in Kafka’s work, this essay considers the connections between the two figures and the likely influence of Kafka on Merleau-Ponty’s concept of gesture and intentionality. It compares their respective philosophies of gesture as they relate to meaning, reliability, silence, music, and intention. Finally, Kafka’s gestural motif of the springing body is suggested as a significant example of Merleau-Ponty’s “escaping intentions,” expressing a powerful will to intend toward others.

Abstract:

The article deals with the topic of "initiations" in Plato's Phaedrus. The idea of initiation was characteristic of Greek mysteries, especially the Eleusinian and Orphic mysteries, which played a large role in the formation of Greek philosophy. The essence of initiations was the experience of divinity. The motive of initiations in Plato's Phaedrus seems to have a similar meaning. This is also suggested by the allegory of human souls as chariots and the mystical “epopteia” motif woven into it, suggesting Eleusinian analogies.

Abstract:

Also published are his thoughts on topics he found most relevant, based on an interview in Sofia in June 1997, transcribed by the author. Khoruzhy’s philosophical studies ran in parallel with his major subject (theoretical physics), but it was not until 1989 that his theological and philosophical works reached a wider audience.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on a specific area of interest within the philosophical system of Schopenhauer and Buddhism which is human rights, the concept of compassion and the issue of the pure motive behind human action. Both theories express pessimism regarding the transitoriness of life and the pain caused, and how this deprives man of inner peace. The common acknowledgment of the fact that human life entails great suffering guides the two philosophies into an awareness of the need for salvation. In their metaphysics, there is a number of similarities that conclude to the point that moral truthfulness is a principal virtue in human life, practically indispensable for right living. In this particular context, while compassion is highlighted as the main ethical factor, it is a question of paramount importance in these doctrines whether the motive behind the action is a motive concentrated on the Self or purely on the Other.

Abstract:
The article explores the discrepancy of the form and the content as a philosophical, moral and axiological problem in the works of Hryhorii Skovoroda. Using the phenomenological reading and structural analysis, the author investigates the interaction between the form and the content in treatises, soliloquies, poems, and letters of Skovoroda. The intellectual and aesthetic background of the Baroque epoch to a large extent explains why this motive of discrepancy occupies a prominent place among the writings of the Ukrainian philosopher. The article analyzes the main plots, in which the discrepancy is revealed: vocation against non-congenial work; a real friend and a flunkey; the truth and a false thing; and the heavenly and an earthly city. After considering all these aspects and other crucial issues, it is concluded what makes the problem of discrepancy an invariant motive in the works of Hryhorii Skovoroda.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper focuses on Heidegger's 1937 lecture course on the Nietzschean doctrine of the Eternal Recurrence of the Same. Heidegger interprets the motive of recurrence in Nietzsche as the Moment (Augenblick) of the Eternal Recurrence. Through this key motive of the moment, we try then to examine the double function of the doctrine which, on the one hand, refers us back to some essential themes of the existential analytics, whereas, on the other hand, it paves the way for the new confrontation with metaphysics in the Beiträge zur Philosophie. We hold that the turning away from the existential conception of the moment toward its “aletheiological” understanding in terms of a “site of the Moment” (die Augenblicksstätte) takes place in the context of this very lecture course. This transition is even more critical as it constitutes the very heart of Heidegger's critique of subjectivity in the new perspective opened by the history of Being: Nietzsche's doctrine of time provides the basis for this questioning.

Abstract:
Along with the emergence of batik in various places with their respective regional identities, batik also emerged in Jepara with its characteristic motifs. This article aims to determine the development of Jepara batik motifs in 2008-2019 as Jepara's new identity based on local wisdom. The emergence of Batik Jepara has begun in 2008 that became the new identity of Jepara. This identity is further strengthened through the inauguration of batik as a world heritage object by UNESCO in 2009. This study uses literature, observation, and in-depth interview with batik entrepreneurs in Jepara to find out superior motifs and philosophies of each batik motif originating from the local wisdom of the people of Jepara. This identity is what makes Jepara batik motifs different from batik motifs in other places. The results show that the Jepara batik motif was influenced by the local culture of the Jepara community, that is not separated from the Jepara carving motif, Kartini batik motif, Jepara community legend, Jepara typical building icons, marine flora-fauna motifs that gave Jepara identity as a coastal area, and the existence of development motifs that remain based on the characteristics of Jepara.

Abstract:
It is research that focuses on the creation of research-based works of art carrying the concepts of education, da'wah as well as economic value. The work created is IRD batik with the Ulamaan motif which has contributed to innovation in the development of batik motifs in Indonesia. It is hoped that the development of this batik motif can be used as a basis for making new products as a media for education and broadcast as well as a part of moving the community's economy. There are three stages in the method of creating works of art, namely experimentation, contemplation, and embodiment. From this method the author will develop Ulamaan batik motifs into new products that have edusyiarpreneur content. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach, and creator theory with an attempt to describe the reconstruction of Islamic Education values in batik motifs. Data collection was carried out through observation, literature study, interviews, and documentation, and was analyzed descriptively. The authors found this in the reconstruction of Islamic Education values which can be applied to a batik motif. The philosophies that can be applied to Islamic Education motifs or decorations include, (1) applicative transformation of Islamic Education through its batik motifs (education); (2) Education is characterized by the values of the teachings of the Ulama (syiar), (3) The existence of batik as an ancestral cultural heritage must continue to be preserved, one of which is IRD Batik, as a work of education, preaching as well as having economic value (preneur). Abstract:
Palavras-chave: Foucault; Filosofia; Jornalismo; Atualidade; The relationship between Foucaultian Philosophy and Journalism: possibilities to thinking the ‘present reality’ Abstract: Many philosophers have used journalism to expose their ideas. After the Second World War Sartre, Adorno, Arendt published in newspapers or gave interviews about that event: the reasons, the consequences and how to avoid catastrophes. In France since 1960 Michel Foucault increased his relationship with newspapers and journalists: he was interviewed, participated in debates, published newsletters, responded to comments and worked on the project to create the newspaper Libération, in 1972. Considering the texts published in newspapers, Deleuze (1991) said that Foucault’s interviews should be read as part of Foucault’s work. This decision is important to think about the contribution of journalism to Foucault and to his political interventions. Several of these interventions were published as “forms of expression” in the books: “Microfisica del Potere” (Italy, 1977) and in the Collection “Dits et Écrits” (France, 1994) and they were decisive for Foucault’s work. For the author Philosophy and Journalism have similar interests in the present reality: they intertwine their practices and this is a reason to pay attention to this relationship in Foucault’s books. Thus, the present article aims to analyze the relationship between Foucault and journalism and then discuss how this relationship helps in the understanding of Foucault’s philosophy. Abstract:
The article discovers the philosophical, socio-political views of the famous American enlightener, philosopher, and participant of the war for independence of northern American colonies of Great Britain – Thomas Paine (1737-1809). The article aims to demonstrate that the equality of people in accordance with their nature has been the main motive of Thomas Paine’s social philosophy. “Natural rights” have been determined by him as those pertaining to a human according to the right of its existence. Thomas Paine, being one of the first American enlighteners, has proved that the terms of “state” and “society” had appeared independently. The humans’ need of the social process, saving of their natural rights had forced them to unite into a society. This statement of the enlightener has been extremely important and accurate: “The society is produced by our desires, and government is produces by our wickedness… The society in every state is a blessing, but the government…is nothing but a necessary evil, and otherwise – an intolerable one”. It is proved that all philosophic works of T. Paine have been pierced by the thought about the inevitability of the state creation. The origin and the existence of state power becomes possible only under the social agreement, as exactly according thereto the humanity is able to realize its natural rights, and only under the social agreement the supreme power in the state shall belong to the nation. The article analyzes T. Paine’s conception about the leadership of the nation, republican principles and representative system of government in the republic form. The contemporaries called Thomas Paine “the British Voltaire” for his fight against willfulness of the church and clergy. He believed in the power of greatness of Mind and Virtue, which had to destroy the wickedness of civilizational society.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Aluminium hybrid composite reinforcement technology is a response to the demands of advanced engineering materials. The motive behind the use of aluminium hybrid components in the transport, agriculture and mining sectors is based on the requirement for weight reduction and in pursuit of high efficiency and performance at a reduced cost. The performance of these materials is largely dependent on selecting the right combination of reinforcing materials, since most of the physical, chemical, mechanical properties and processing parameters such as particle size, weight percent of reinforcement and fabrication method were largely associated with the reinforcement. This paper attempts to review the different materials that have been used as reinforcements and the reinforcement philosophy adopted by several researchers with a view to establishing the effects of the reinforcement materials on micro structural, mechanical and tribological properties of hybrid composites. The processing methodology and its effects on aluminium hybrid composites have also been reviewed with a view to suggesting the best applications of aluminium hybrid composites.

Abstract:

Contemporary debates on freedom traverse questions concerning metaphysics, the mind/body relationship, evolution, morality, and religion. Throughout his life, the French philosopher Henri Bergson dealt with these questions from the perspective of time, believing that spatializing these problems led to inadequate solutions. That freedom was a centralizing concern in his oeuvre can be demonstrated in the way he approached these questions in challenging determinism, materialism, mechanism, and finalism. Bergson studies, despite noting the importance of freedom for Bergson, have focussed on intuition and duration as his seminal contributions. Bergson himself never thematized freedom in any specific way, but by working with a positive conception of freedom, as a creation of the new within the fiow of duration, freedom can be seen as a centralizing motif in his work. By clarifying the nature of freedom and its centrality, the ground can be cleared for a Bergsonian intervention into contemporary debates on freedom.

Batik is a motif or ornaments (on cloth) which processed in a certain way usually using malam which is some kind of wax to the cloth. Batik Minahasa is batik with traditional motif or ornament from indigenous land of Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. One of the reasons batik become the cultural heritage of Indonesia is because of the motif which contained local people’s life philosophies. Motif variation of batik Minahasa has not much developed even though there are variations made by combining the traditional motifs. Mathematics introduces fractal which has self-similarity characteristic in its shapes and Julia Set is one of fractals object that corresponds to complex numbers and is generated from the iterated function . The purpose of this research is to make variations of batik Minahasa based on Julia set. The results show that by selecting a complex number within a range of and give interesting shapes of Julia sets.
