Abstract Mysticism as Act. Philosophy and Spirituality in Maurice Blondel Mysticism plays a crucial role at the background of Maurice Blondel’s ‘philosophy of action’ (1893). In the years after his main work, his interest for mysticism increases. The discussion about the role of mysticism is even the battlefield of his debate with Jacques Maritain (1882–1973), who criticizes Blondel of allowing in his philosophy a direct contact with the Divine. Maritain does not accuse Blondel of ‘modernism’, but is very close to it. In order to explain his understanding of mysticism, the article outlines the intensive cooperation between Blondel and Henri Bremond (1865–1933). Blondel was of main influence for Bremond’s text on poetry and prayer in which mysticism plays an important role. At the end of the article the role of this discussion on mysticism and philosophy for Blondel’s social philosophy has been elaborated.

In seinem philosophischen Hauptwerk Masse und Macht suspendiert Elias Canetti die für die abendländische Metaphysik zentrale Differenz von Natur und Kultur, indem er im Anschluss an Friedrich Nietzsche das menschliche Verhältnis zur belebten und unbelebten Natur unter dem Begriff der Verwandlung diskutiert, der den dionysischen Prozess einer psychophysischen Meta- morphose bezeichnet. Die Verwandlung verbindet intensive Affekte, materielle Partikel und die freie Variation dichter Zeichen zu einem symbolischen Gefüge, das einen transversalen Kommunikations- und Austauschprozess zwischen dem menschlichen und animalischen Organismus anstößt. Dieses postanthropozentrische Erkenntnismodell entfaltet Canetti auf Basis einer phänomenologischen Annäherung an psychotische Grenzerfahrungen. Während er das schizoide Erleben intensiver Affektströme als ein paradigmatisches Beispiel für den gewaltfreien Austausch des Menschen mit der Natur betrachtet, erkennt er in den Krankheitsmustern der Paranoia die grundlegenden Strukturen der Macht wieder, die die Verwandlung zugunsten einer instrumentellen Beherrschung der Natur und der sozialen Interaktionen unterbinden. Die Paranoia der Macht ist für Canetti zugleich die Paranoia eines seit Aristoteles tief in der abendländischen Philosophie- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte verankerten Rationalitätskonzepts, das das Menschliche in Abgrenzung zu der es umgebenden Natur zu definieren versucht.

Universalismus und Relativismus sind Begriffe, die vorherrschend zur intensiven Debatte gehören, die sich in der politischen Philosophie und auf dem Gebiet der zeitgenössischen Ethik, Anthropologie und Soziologie entwickelt hat. Ich werde hier eine Neuinterpretation dieser Beziehung versuchen und dabei einige Schlüsselpunkte der Philosophie Diltheys, und im Besonderen einige Stellen aus Das Wesen der Philosophie von 1907 benutzen. Dieser Text und natürlich andere Texte des Philosophen aus dem Rheinland können uns meines Erachtens als philosophische Richtschnur in der Bestimmung und auch in der Neuformulierung von einigen Schlüsselkategorien der postmetaphysischen Moderne, wie Individualität, Universalität, Historizität, Vermittelbarkeit und die möglichst weit reichende Verwendung des Wissens vom Menschen dienen.

Zugleich aber, das lernt man häufig nicht, ist Kant einer der ersten Philosophen, die sich intensiv darum bemüht haben, Menschen in «Rassen» einzuteilen und zu bestimmen, in welchen geografischen Zonen der Welt sich welche der diversen menschlichen Eigenschaften herausbilden. Er verwendete großen Aufwand darauf, seine «Rassentheorie» gegen Kritiker zu verteidigen, und entwickelte sie über Jahrzehnte hinweg weiter.

Abstract:

The present study analyzed in-service English as an additional language (EAL) teachers’ written teaching philosophy (TP) statements in order to identify the dominant topics that comprise this supporting genre, as well as the use of personal pronouns and possessive adjectives. The sample included 27 in-service EAL teachers’ TPs who were currently teaching, primarily, in the context of higher education and intensive English programs in North American settings. Each sentence was coded for a dominant topic, leading to the creation of 24 categories. To capture the unique characteristics of this genre, we created three success groups (i.e., Most successful, Successful, and Least successful) and compared their contents. Moreover, the first and last five topics for each TP for the three groups were compared, thus, establishing a pattern of opening and closing topics. Finally, we drew on corpus tools to uncover the manipulation of specific lexical features of this genre: the use of personal pronouns and possessive adjectives. The most prominent topics across the three groups included Teaching beliefs, Learning beliefs, Beliefs about learners, and Teacher growth. Differences were identified between the three groups in terms of both topics and organization. La présente étude a analysé des énoncés écrits de professeurs d’anglais langue additionnelle (ALA) en poste décrivant leur philosophie pédagogique (PP) en vue d’identifier les thèmes dominants qui composent ce genre complémentaire ainsi que l’utilisation de pronoms personnels et d’adjectifs possessifs. L’échantillon portait sur la philosophie pédagogique de 27 professeurs d’ALA en poste présentement actifs, et ce, principalement dans le contexte de l’enseignement supérieur et des programmes d’anglais intensif dans des milieux nord-américains. Chaque phrase a été codifiée en fonction de son thème dominant, ce qui a amené la création de 24 catégories. Afin de saisir les caractéristiques particulières de ce genre, nous avons créé trois catégories de succès (c.-à-d. Succès supérieur, Succès, et Succès inférieur) et en avons comparé les contenus. De plus, les premiers et cinq derniers thèmes des trois groupes portant sur chaque PP ont été comparés, ce qui a permis d’établir un schéma de thèmes d’ouverture et de fermeture. Enfin, nous avons recouru à des outils de corpus textuel pour découvrir la manipulation des caractéristiques linguistiques particulières de ce genre : l’utilisation de pronoms personnels et d’adjectifs possessifs. Les thèmes les plus importants dans les trois groupes étaient les Croyances sur l’enseignement, les Croyances sur l’apprentissage, les Croyances sur les apprenants, et le Perfectionnement professionnel des professeurs. Des différences ont été identifiées entre les trois groupes tant au niveau des thèmes qu’à celui de l’organisation.

Die Philosophie ist eine merkwürdige Disziplin. Sie hat keinen klar bestimmten Gegenstandsbereich und keine einheitliche Methodik. Es gibt aber eine philosophische Methode, die in fast allen Epochen und in fast allen Bereichen der Philosophie intensiv genutzt wurde und weiter genutzt wird: das Gedankenexperiment. Was genau Gedankenexperimente sind, wie sie funktionieren und welchen wissenschaftlichen Wert sie haben, wird in der Philosophie seit den 1990er Jahren intensiv diskutiert. Diese Diskussion ist jedoch stark auf Gedankenexperimente in den Naturwissenschaften und in der theoretischen Philosophie fokussiert, obwohl sie auch in der praktischen Philosophie allgegenwärtig sind. Diesem Phänomen ist der Schwerpunkt „Gedankenexperimente in der praktischen Philosophie“ gewidmet. Diese Einleitung stellt die einzelnen Beiträge des Schwerpunkts vor und diskutiert deren jeweiligen Kontext.

Résumé La sémiotique de l’image, chez Deleuze, s’appuie sur une cinétique du mouvement, qui renouvelle la philosophie et la théorie du cinéma. La matière comporte l’ensemble des images, tandis que la perception ouvre sur ces images une perspective myope, prenant pour cadre l’image particulière d’un corps. Dans cet univers acentré, la subjectivité agit comme cadrage et coupure, interstice entre les images. Une perception se forme quand une image s’individue, et cette individuation se formule dans les termes d’une genèse cinématographique. L’image-mouvement déplie son éventail subjectif d’images-perception, d’images-action et d’images-affection. Ces trois moments matériels correspondent aux catégories du cinéma (sémiotique) et aux moments d’une genèse de la subjectivité (cinétique). L’image-perception soustrait des autres images tout ce qui n’a pas trait à son action ; son cadrage permet à l’image-action de faire pénétrer de l’indétermination dans les autres images en incurvant l’univers autour de son action possible ; enfin, l’image-affection détermine le lien entre les perceptions (images) et les actions (mouvements) de l’arc sensorimoteur. Ces trois moments assurent l’analyse du cinéma classique : les trois types d’images, qui correspondent aux genres de films et aux types de cadrage, sont équivalents. L’image-perception, et son panoramique (western), ne vaut pas mieux que le plan moyen et le montage accéléré de l’image-action (film noir), ni que le gros plan de l’image-affection (cinéma psychologique). Pourtant, l’image-affection, le gros plan, possède la capacité de mener de l’image-mouvement à l’image-temps. La distension de l’arc sensorimoteur ouvre le mouvement, l’action individuée et actuelle, sur leur vibration virtuelle et intensive : l’affect du temps surgit dans la faillite du schème sensorimoteur, et le cinéma nous fait percevoir « un peu de temps à l’état pur » (Proust). Il s’agit d’explorer cette définition de la subjectivité, qui s’appuie sur la technique cinématographique du montage, et renouvelle la question du temps autant que celle du sujet.

Intensive silviculture is practiced in many parts of the world but is rare in the public forests of western Canada. Here, we make the argument that intensive silviculture could be justified in Alberta but has not been implemented due to philosophies and policy decisions by foresters from government, industry and academia. These include adherence to long rotations, management goals that are aimed at sustained total volume yield rather than economic value, limitations in the types of stands that are allowed to be regenerated and models that do not include intensive silviculture options. In Mixedwood Growth Model projections, we demonstrate the potential of intensive silviculture that includes combinations of selecting good sites and thinning to produce merchantable stands by age 50 compared to the standard rotation age of 80 with basic silviculture. There could be even more gains if forest level constraints in timber flow were removed due to the increased growth of regenerating stands. Finally, we examine the attitude and policy changes that we believe are necessary for adoption of more intensive silviculture systems on parts of Alberta’s forest landbase.

This principle, the point of contact between the determined and undetermined, would be a ground of sensation and therefore of all outer experience. For both Kant and Deleuze, this ground can be localised in intensity as the degree of force of the real. But it is Deleuze's unique combination to show that depth, the matrix of intensity, serves as a ground only insofar as it is also an ungrounding.

Abstract Die kulturellen Beziehungen zwischen Spanien und den deutschsprachigen Ländern waren im Vergleich zu anderen Nationen – Großbritannien, Frankreich, Italien – bis in die 1980er Jahre nicht sehr intensiv, obwohl es durchaus Anknüpfungspunkte gab. So etwa die Habsburger, die zwischen 1516 bis 1700 spanische Könige waren, die Musik des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts oder die Schule des Krausismus, die auf der ,,Wesenslehre“ des in Deutschland weithin unbekannten Philosophen Karl Christian Friedrich Krause (1781–1832) beruhte und für die spanische Philosophie der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts große Bedeutung erlangte. Im Ersten Weltkrieg stellte sich Spaniens ,,germanophile“ Oberschicht auf die Seite des Deutschen Reiches1, während die fortschrittlichen Intellektuellen auf Seiten Frankreichs standen. Im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg unterstützte das Dritte Reich die aufständischen Generäle, der Diktator Francisco Franco bedankte sich, indem er Hitler die ,,Blaue Division“ zur Verfügung stellte, die als Teil der Wehrmacht beim Russlandfeldzug zum Einsatz kam. Zahlreiche ,,germanophile“ Intellektuelle, wie etwa Luis Cernuda (1902–1963), gingen während des Bürgerkriegs ins Ausland. Viele blieben danach auch im Exil, andere kehrten zurück, waren jedoch zum Schweigen verurteilt, um nicht von der Universität entlassen zu werden. Die Avantgarde, die die Kultur und Kunst und letztlich auch Literatur Deutschlands gefördert hätte, wurde auf die eine oder andere Weise ausgeschaltet. Einerseits war die deutsche Kultur ausgeschlossen, andererseits herrschte besonders auf politischer Seite eine große Affinität zum Dritten Reich, die ihr Fortbestehen in der Affinität zum konservativen Deutschland der Nachkriegszeit fand. Man könnte also von zwei Deutschlandbildern sprechen: das Deutschland der fortschrittlichen – exilierten oder im Land selbst unterdrückten – Republikaner und das Deutschland des ,,Franquismus“, wobei letzteres 40 Jahre lang den Ton angab.

Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird der absolut-generalisierende Menschenbegriff auf das subjektiv-figurative Konzept des Individuums begrenzt. Im Unterschied zu der anthropologischen Philosophie früherer Epochen beschäftigten sich die Denker der Romantik viel intensiver mit dem Ich-Problem als mit der Definition des Menschen bzw. des Menschlichen. Die theoretischen Grundlagen dieser eifrigen Ich-Zentriertheit können besonders gut am Beispiel von Johann Gottlieb Fichtes subjektiven Idealismus beobachtet werden. Davon ausgehend werden die literarischen Manifestationen des Individuellen in den Kunstmärchen deutscher Romantiker (Ludwig Tieck, Adelbert von Chamisso) analysiert.

To the Editor.— The authors of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development report on neonatal care1 found "important" variations among neonatal intensive care units in philosophies of treatment, methods of treatment, and short-term outcomes. In a recent meta-analysis of follow-up studies,2 researchers document a similarly haphazard approach to the long-term evaluation of very low birth weight survivors. Until randomized controlled clinical trials validate the safety and efficacy of neonatal therapies, and until long-term outcomes are assessed accurately, the treatment of very low birth weight infants should be declared experimental.

Historically, the care of hospitalized children has evolved from being performed in isolation from parents to a situation where the parents and the child are regarded as a unit, and parents and nurses as equal partners in the child’s care. Parents are totally dependent on professionals’ knowledge and expertise, while nurses are dependent on the children’s emotional connection with their parents in order to provide optimal care. Even when interdependency exists, nurses as professionals hold the power to decide whether and to what extent parents should be involved in their child’s care. This article focuses on nurses’ responsibility to act ethically and reflectively in a collaborative partnership with parents. To illuminate the issue of nurses as moral practitioners, we present an observation of contemporary child care, and discuss it from the perspective of the Danish moral philosopher KE Løgstrup and his book The ethical demand.

In this paper we shall consider over 30-Years larg disscusion between theistic philosopher of religion William Lane Craig and athestic philosopher Quentin Smith about kalam cosmological argument and big bang cosmological hypothesis. Main issue of their's disscusion is the problem of the cause of the beginnig of the universe. Craig tries to give us arguments for the thesis that the big bang cosmology is compatible with the his kalam kosmological argument, and, consenquently, that God is cause of the big bang. Smith but tries to give us the arguments for the thesis that the kalam cosmological argument is not sound, and that cause of the big bang is not God. At the beginnig of the discussion Smith has defended thesis that big bang has no cause. Lather but he defends the thesis that the universe is self-caused. During this larg and intensive discussion are developed interesting arguments, some of which we shall present here.

Abstract:

Resumo Comunicar más notícias é tarefa desafiadora na prática médica, motivo pelo qual o tema tem adquirido relevância na formação de futuros profissionais. Nas unidades de terapia intensiva, esse tipo de comunicação se mescla a múltiplas situações, a exemplo do manejo de informações envolvendo o agravamento do estado clínico e a possibilidade de morte iminente, especialmente em casos pediátricos. Diante desse contexto, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi compreender os desafios enfrentados por médicos intensivistas na comunicação de más notícias, tendo como eixo de análise algumas questões problematizadas no campo das discussões bioéticas. Os resultados apontaram a necessidade de preparo técnico e pessoal do médico diante desse importante desafio, haja vista que a participação da criança no processo de tratamento ainda é limitada, realidade que dificulta o compartilhamento das informações e, consequentemente, o exercício da autonomia.

Abstract:

Resumen Comunicar malas noticias es una tarea desafiante en la práctica médica, por lo que el tema ha adquirido relevancia en la formación de los futuros profesionales. En las unidades de cuidados intensivos, este tipo de comunicación se mezcla con múltiples situaciones, como, por ejemplo, el manejo de información que implica el agravamiento del estado clínico y la posibilidad de muerte inminente, especialmente en los casos pediátricos. Ante este contexto, el objetivo de esta investigación fue comprender los desafíos que enfrentan los médicos intensivistas en la comunicación de malas noticias, teniendo como eje de análisis algunas cuestiones problematizadas en el ámbito de las discusiones bioéticas. Los resultados señalaron la necesidad de una preparación técnica y personal del médico que se enfrenta a este importante desafío, una vez que la participación del niño en el proceso de tratamiento sigue siendo limitada, una realidad que dificulta el intercambio de información y, en consecuencia, el ejercicio de la autonomía.

Abstract:

Persons with a diagnosis of personality disorder struggle to experience meaning in life. This article explores how meaning in life of patients with personality disorder changes during intensive psychotherapy. In a qualitative study, life stories of nineteen Dutch patients receiving intensive psychotherapy, written both before and after treatment, were analyzed using holistic content analysis. Here, meaning in life was understood and operationalized in terms of the concept of orientation towards visions of the good by philosopher Charles Taylor. The findings suggest that patients experience both positive and negative shifts concerning meaning in life. On the one hand, in comparison to the first life stories, there is more awareness and insight about the way the ‘good’ is missing in the second life stories. On the other hand, there are more descriptions about being vulnerable, guilty or ashamed, whereas particular sources of meaning are missing.

Recent advances in acute myeloid leukemia biology and drug development have transformed the therapeutic landscape for patients diagnosed with this disease. By harnessing insights from the study of the molecular pathogenesis of the disease, the acute myeloid leukemia treatment armamentarium now extends beyond conventional cytotoxic agents to include targeted therapies, and immunotherapeutics, with multiple novel modalities under investigation. During the past 5 years, recent drug approvals have also focused attention on disease scenarios and patient populations for whom newer therapies might be deployed. In this review, we highlight select acute myeloid leukemia therapies in the frontline setting through the lens of both disease and patient-related factors. Particular emphasis is placed on the assessment of patient fitness, as contemporary acute myeloid leukemia therapy decisions largely hinge on the determination of whether intensive chemotherapy is suitable for a patient. Additionally, we detail scenarios and areas of controversy wherein disease biology may inspire a reframing of traditional intensive treatment philosophies, regardless of patient fitness. Lastly, we provide an overview of emerging agents that are being investigated in the relapsed/refractory setting.

Abstract. In Germany each year, more than 65 000 children are born prematurely as ‚preterm infants‘ (or ‚preemies‘). Some 4500 of these are born extremely premature. Despite being sites of enormous human suffering und huge financial costs, the places of treatment of these babies are almost non-existent in societal discourse. Therefore, the aim of this article is to understand this place, the so-called ‚NICUs‘ – Neonatal Intensive Care Units, places that seem isolated from the rest of society, but are tightly connected to it. In order to reach this aim, a ‚dense description‘ of a single NICU in Germany will be given, based on a stay of 5 months by the author. The underlying perspective of that dense description is the practice theoretical approach of social philosopher Theodore Schatzki. The description of the NICU shows that corporeality, materiality, and not least emotionality are important aspects of social phenomena. As will be seen, the underlying practice theory is a relational ontology that resists the urge to draw on micro-macro-dichotomies to understand these phenomena.

This study uses cross-cultural samples from the United States and China to replicate previous empirical findings regarding the relationship among moral philosophies, moral intensity, and ethical decision making. The authors use a two-step structural equations modeling approach to analyze the measurement and structural models. The findings partially replicate those from previous studies and provide evidence that the measurement model is somewhat invariant across the two groups studied but the structural model is not. In addition, there is evidence that the relationship between personal moral philosophies (mainly relativism) and moral intensity varies across the two cultures. That is, whereas relativism is a significant predictor of moral intensity for the Chinese sample, it is not for the U.S. sample. However, idealism is a significant predictor of perceived moral intensity for both samples of marketing practitioners. Finally, perceived moral intensity is a significant, direct predictor of ethical judgments, and ethical judgments are a significant, direct predictor of behavioral intentions in both instances.

AbstractIn the firstCritique,Kant attempts to prove what we can call the ‘principle of intensive magnitudes’, according to which every possible object of experience will possess a determinate ‘degree’ of reality. Curiously, Kant argues for this principle by inferring from a psychological premise about internal sensations (they have intensive magnitudes) to a metaphysical thesis about external objects (they also have intensive magnitudes). Most commentators dismiss the argument as a failure. In this article I give a reconstruction of Kant's argument that attempts to rehabilitate the argument back into his broader transcendental theory of experience. I argue that we can make sense of the argument's central inference by appeal to Kant's theory of empirical intuition and by an analysis of the way in which Kant thinks sensory matter constitutes our most basic representations of objects.

The article explores the world experience of creating satellite cities. A satellite city is a conceptual unit of urban development located in the zone of influence of a large city. Previously, the satellite city was conceptually described by the English philosopher Ebenezer Howard as the optimal environment for life - the "garden city." The concept was adopted by urban planners as an approach to reduce population concentration and optimize socio-economic activities in the center of large cities. These cities are designed to provide housing and employment for people who work in the city but want to live in a more suburban or rural environment. In addition, satellite cities can have their own base of employment and production and interact with the main city in a different scenario. The relevance of the topic is determined by the migration surge that is expected after the end of martial law in Ukraine. The satellite city is considered as an urban planning tool for regulating migration flows within the country in conditions of a critical shortage of settlements with an established socio-economic infrastructure. There is a need to revise the existing concept for implementation in the specific conditions of post-war Ukraine. The satellite city concept already has theoretical validity and practical implementation in other states. Implementation of the concept requires careful analysis from the point of view of general planning and socio-economic realities of modern Ukraine. Adaptation and implementation of world experience can be an optimal solution to the problems associated with future reverse migration, which will have unprecedented volumes after the end of martial law.

Para solucionar la crisis provocada por la escasez de recursos de alta complejidad, la toma de decisiones estuvo orientada por puntuaciones pronósticas, pero este proceso incluye una dimensión moral aún menos evidente. A partir de una revisión integradora, este artículo buscó reflexionar sobre la razonabilidad de utilizar indicadores de gravedad para definir la asignación de recursos escasos en salud. El trabajo realizado en situaciones de escasez de recursos genera sobrecarga moral, llevando a la búsqueda de soluciones estandarizadas y objetivas, como el uso de puntuaciones de pronóstico. Se concluye que su uso aislado e indiscriminado no es éticamente aceptable y merece una cuidadosa evaluación, incluso en situaciones de emergencia, como la del Covid-19.

Resumo O enfrentamento da covid-19 suscitou uma série de problemas na área da saúde, em razão do aumento da demanda de cuidados intensivos. Para solucionar a crise causada pela escassez de recursos de alta complexidade, a tomada de decisão tem se norteado por escores prognósticos, porém esse processo inclui uma dimensão moral, ainda que esta seja menos evidente. Mediante revisão integrativa, este artigo buscou refletir sobre a razoabilidade da utilização de indicadores de gravidade para definir a alocação de recursos escassos na saúde. Observou-se que o trabalho realizado em situações de escassez de recursos provoca sobrecarga moral, convergindo para busca por soluções padronizadas e objetivas, como a utilização de escores prognósticos. Conclui-se que seu uso isolado e indiscriminado não é eticamente aceitável e merece avaliação cautelosa, mesmo em situações emergenciais, como a da covid-19.

This study examines the referential properties of a class of complex pronouns labelled M-PRONOUNS, exemplified by Old English HIMSELF, French LUI-MéME and English HISOWN. It is shown that M-pronouns exhibit some properties commonly taken as characterizing reflexive anaphors, and that they also occur as ‘intensive’ pronouns. It is shown, however, that they are not anaphors, and that labelling them ‘intensives’ does not suffice to account for their distribution. It is argued that the semantic properties of M-pronouns may be derived from their morphological structure. Their pronoun component (Old English HIM, French LUI, English HIS) is not a pronominal, in the sense of the Binding Theory, but a bindable expression unspecified for disjoint reference and locality. In the complex form created by M-adjunction, the pronoun is crucially de-stressed and, correlatively, interpreted as endophoric.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the best practices of training students for science and high-tech technologies on the example of Great Britain. Materials and methods. The study uses analytical method, which allows to analyze the innovative aspects of the training of specialists in science-intensive areas. The analysis was carried out from the standpoint of the system approach to the understanding of student training in universities of science cities. The system approach allowed us to consider the training programs in universities, which are an integral part of science cities, having its own structure formed by various interrelated components, subject to its own logic of development under the influence of various factors. To identify the common and special in the training of specialists for science and science-intensive technologies the method of comparative analysis was used, which allowed to perform a comparative-pedagogical study in the context of training specialists for innovative activities and promotion of cutting-edge technologies. Results. Training of specialists for knowledge-intensive industries in universities of science cities of Great Britain is considered in the article. The common characteristics of the training of students in science-intensive areas in the UK are highlighted. The specifics of interaction of the professional community with the use of information cooperation platforms are considered in the article. Discussion and Conclusion. The obtained results can enrich them with a variety of interactions with knowledge-intensive enterprises and ways of modern communications, new directions of development of knowledge-intensive educational programs, formation of motivated participation in knowledge-intensive project activity of students.

ZusammenfassungPharmakologisches Neuroenhancement (PNE) bezeichnet die freiwillige Einnahme verschreibungspflichtiger psychotroper Substanzen durch gesunde Personen zur Steigerung der kognitiven Leistungsfähigkeit. Die Praktik des PNE lässt sich etwa seit 2000 überwiegend in Schulen und Universitäten, aber auch im wissenschaftlichen Bereich beobachten. Gegenwärtig ist PNE Gegenstand einer intensiven Diskussion, welche unter anderem die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen einer Anerkennung des PNE als medizinisch indizierbare „Therapie” erörtert. Gegner einer solchen „legislativen Etablierung” argumentieren häufig, dass die Legalisierung von PNE eine allgemeine Nötigung, „smart pills” einzunehmen, um wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben, implizieren könnte. An diesem Punkt ergibt sich ein Zusammenhang zu Foucaults Philosophie der Macht. In der Arbeit wird gezeigt, dass PNE als Erscheinungsform von Biomacht im Sinne Foucaults verstanden werden kann, insofern als PNE nicht nur repressive, sondern auch produktive Charakteristika aufweist. Zugleich wird das Phänomen des PNE deskriptiv erfasst und es werden zentrale Begriffe von Foucaults Konzept der (Bio)Macht erläutert.

Abstract:

The aim of the paper is to investigate paths along which a transformation of the doctrine of natural signs was developed in works by Paracelsians, forming one of the main religious and philosophic currents of Late Renaissance. The modifications of the doctrine are discussed in a context of intensive speculations on the essence of the primordial language of humankind and on the possibility of its restoration, which can describe the intellectual life of that epoch. It is argued that within “chemical philosophy” the possibility of restoration of the Adamic language directly depends on mastering the art of interpreting natural signs (signatura rerum), which can give a key to correct understanding of nature. And shifts in the conceptualization of such signatures involved transformations in formulating and solving of the Adamistic problems, which did not exclude reverse causation. It is also ascertained that the most orthodox followers of Paracelsus usually appealed to the Adamistic narrative in order to reinforce legitimacy of the symbolic hermeneutics of nature, developed with chiefly medico-pharmacological purposes. Meanwhile, relatively more independent Paracelsians often paid more attention to linguo-philosophic issues. Realizing the deficiency of the doctrine of signatures for reconstruction of the primordial language, they postulated the necessity of one (or two) of the following premises: (a) supplementing the doctrine with a mystical illumination; (b) acceptance of a weaker version, according to which natural signs are just sparse reference points slightly simplifying empirical study of nature; (c) abandonment of search for the Ursprache and constructing its artificial substitute, a universal semiotic system.

PubMed, Embase and PsycINFO were systematically searched using a number of key terms.ResultsA total of 27 articles were obtained. The findings were divided into four categories: admission characteristics, treatment needs, risk management and outcomes after discharge. Gender differences were found in diagnosis and presentation.Clinical implicationsThe differences observed in the reviewed studies suggest that women may have different assessment and treatment needs, and ultimately, different philosophies of care. A dearth of studies in this area indicates that if services are to develop in line with government policies, more research is needed.

The rapid development of the Asian economies is one of the focal points of world economy. Owing to intensive influences of Chinese in Asia, studies related to Chinese culture have gained great interest to foreign investors worldwide. The building up of a good quality Chinese partnership with the rest of the world is found beneficial starting with understanding Chinese Confucianist thinking. A set of 19 Confucian Principles are extracted systematically in this study to reveal how Chinese managers implement Total Quality Management (TQM). The Fishbein behaviour model was used to measure the quality behaviour intentions of Chinese managers. An instrument was developed and tested on Chinese philosophies in TQM implementation. The findings of the study were reinforced by discussion sessions with Chinese managers in Hong Kong. The findings of the study are encouraging, and had provided a new window for further studies on oriental cultural based management.

Abstract:

Abstract Breaking bad news is a challenging task in medical practice, reason why this topic’s relevance has grown in the training of future professionals. In intensive care units, this type of communication is mixed with multiple situations, such as the management of information involving the worsening of clinical conditions and the possibility of imminent death, especially in pediatric cases. Given this context, the objective if this study was to understand the challenges faced by intensive care physicians in breaking bad news, from the analytical axis of some questions raised in the field of bioethical discussions. The results highlight the need for technical and personal preparation of physicians in the face of this important challenge, since the child’s participation in the treatment process remains limited, a reality that hinders the sharing of information and, consequently, the exercise of autonomy.

Abstract:

AbstractScholars working on Kant’s Anticipations of Perception generally attribute to him an argument that invalidly infers that objects have degrees of intensive magnitude from the premise that sensations do. I argue that this rests on an incorrect disambiguation of Kant’s use of Empfindung (sensation) as referring to the mental states that are our sensings, rather than the objects that are thereby sensed. Kant’s real argument runs as follows. The difference between a representation of an empty region of space and/or time and a representation of that same region as occupied by an object entails that, in addition to their extensive magnitude, objects must be represented as having a matter variable in intensive magnitude. Since it is the presence of sensation (sensing) in a cognition that marks the difference between representing only the extensive magnitude of the object and the object as a whole, it is sensation that represents its intensive magnitude.
