Abstract:
This paper develops a detailed case study of the Phillips Curve as it has evolved since Phillips classic work of 1958. An explicit narrative in the paper involves the evolution of the argument using economics and systems thinking, to develop underlying data generating models. These are shown to underpin the inverse relationship between inflation and unemployment in economics. The paper considers the political exigencies relating to the Great inflation of the 1970s and the Great Recession post 2008 in terms of interpretations of the Philips curve. The paper hypothesises that economic ideas have meaningful significance within the context of historical eras with concomitant political imperatives whence such notions become somnolent once crises have abated. This This historical narrative is implicit in the latest research reflections on Philips curves. A particularly useful finding is the relevance of systems thinking and systems dynamics to the interpretation of issues relating to aggregation problems in macroeconomics involving inflation and unemployment causal relationships. The paper concludes that seemingly moribund the Philips curve is alive may have been hibernating. Identifying the Phillips curve requires a wide range of variability of non-aggregative data streams. This allows the negative slope of the curve to be revealed, else the Philips curve slope is pushed towards the vertical plane. Endogenous central banking and inflation targeting intensifies this effect which is evident from a systems thinking /dynamics perspective.

Abstract:
The focus of this paper is an analysis of the Ambrose Philips (1674- 1749) neoclassical tragedy “The Distrest Mother” (1712). This play is an adaptation of Jean Racine’s (1639-1699) “Andromaque”(1667), which is, in turn, an adaptation of the Euripides’ ancient Greek tragedy “Andromache” (ca. 426 BC). Philips’ tragedy is an example of an early English adaptation from Racine. Philip took Racine’s play and moulded it to appeal to English taste. Therefore, this study shall analyse Philips’ play focusing on his innovations, mainly in comparison with the Racine version, but also with the ancient Greek myth.

Abstract:
This paper examines the role of inflation expectations in Solomon Islands, a Pacific Island Country, using the Hybrid New Keynesian Phillips Curve model. The study applies the Generalized Method of Moments to estimate the Hybrid New Keynesian Philips Curve model using quarterly time series data for the period 2003–2017. The study confirms the existence of a Hybrid New Keynesian Philips Curve for Solomon Islands and finds that both backward-looking and forward-looking processes matter for inflation. Fuel prices and output gap are important indicators of current inflation. The study highlights key areas to further investigate including the weak monetary transmission mechanism and to examine the exchange rate pass through effect onto domestic prices. Studies on the role of inflation expectations in small, open, economies of the Pacific, such as Solomon Islands, is limited. This paper fills this void in literature by using quarterly time-series data to build a Hybrid New Keynesian Philips Curve model for Solomon Islands.

This paper aims to analyze the existence of the Philips curve in the Indonesian economy, 2000Q1-2010Q3. The results obtained by using OLS method shows that the expectations augmented Philips curve and the New Keynesian Philips curve models cannot give a clear results of Philips curve existence in the Idonesia economy. Shocks variable such as percentage change of exchange rates and crude oil prices provide a very small effect on the inflation rate in Indonesia. Furthermore, the results obtained by using GMM method on the hybrid model of the New Keynesian Philips curve shows that the Philips curve exists in the Indonesian economy.

Abstract:
A study has been made of the Philips and Carnot cycles based on the modernized physicochemical model of "ideal gas", which utilizes the theory of thermodynamic potentials and assumes the presence of chemical energy. The feasibility study of the Phillips and Carnot heat engines using the thermodynamic potential method is substantiated by plotting the diagrams of the dependence of the internal energy and Helmholtz energy on the absolute temperature and their comparison with the usual pressure-volume diagrams. This method is compared with traditional approach to analysis of cyclic processes. Based on the analysis carried out, the results are similar to those obtained in the study of these processes in the traditional way. On the other hand, the use of new research methods has a significant advantage, since it allows direct use of the activity of the substance (gas) and the entire arsenal of chemical thermodynamics for the analysis of cyclic processes, for example, in the thermal machines of Philips and Carnot.

Abstract:
Inflation and unemployment, and their relationship with each other, are two broad topics among the wide range of subjects in economics literature. Several hypotheses on the relationship between these two terms were suggested by many economists at different times throughout economics history. The empirical frame of the relationship between inflation and unemployment in economics literature was formed for the first time by A.W.H. Phillips through the study called by his own name, Philips curve in 1958 which was then developed by R. G. Lipsey, P. Samuelson and R. Solow, M. Friedman and E. Phelps and Robert. E. Lucas. M. Friedman stated that Philips curve might be positively sloped at certain times even if it's temporary in the study he presented in the Nobel Economics Conference in 1976. The current study focussed on the weighted averages of 5-year-zone inflation and unemployment data of the selected countries between the years 1995-2019 as practiced by M. Friedman. The findings of the empirical analysis demonstrated that inflation and unemployment synchronized upwards and downward in the selected countries in relevant periods and Philips curve was positively sloped rather than negatively sloped.
