Abstract:
The madrasah education curriculum is imperative in the implementation of madrasah education in the Philippines. The importance of the curriculum processes and products as collection of work encompasses the significant involvement of key stakeholders in curriculum development. The purpose of this paper was to provide a detailed curriculum analysis of the Refined Elementary Madrasah Curriculum using Posner’s curriculum analysis and its implication towards the development of Philippine madrasah education. The study employed a qualitative research design mainly through document analyses and key informant interviews of program implementers. Based on the analysis, the perspective of the curriculum is to provide appropriate and relevant educational opportunities within the context of accepted cultures, customs, traditions and interests of Muslim Filipino learners. In addition, there is an attempt to contextualise the learning goals of the Philippine classroom. However, some of the participants described the curriculum as relevant but not age-appropriate. In addition, as basic tenets in designing a curriculum, there were no specific learning activities elaborately explaining the instructional strategies and course resources. Also, there was no assessment task or evaluation explicitly incorporated in the curriculum. Conversely, the institutionalisation of the Madrasah Education Program (MEP) in public school provides an opportunity to develop and ensure access to quality and relevant education among Muslim learners. The results provide baseline data in understanding the curriculum and serve as an impetus for future curriculum development of madrasah education in the Philippines.

Abstract:
There is a noticeable under-representation of the male gender particularly in the field of elementary teacher education. The main aim of this paper is to understand the lived experience of male college students aspiring to become professional elementary teachers. As phenomenological research, it involved six purposively selected male students enrolled in a predominantly female elementary teacher education program in a Philippine university. The data were gathered through online interviews and analyzed based on a phenomenological analysis framework. The following themes emerged: 1.) We hear discouraging stereotypes about teaching; 2.) We are passionate about educating the young ones; 3.) We feel that awkward moment in a room of females; and 4.) We have an inclusive learning environment. These themes are based on the individual textural and structural descriptions and form the basis for the composite textural and structural descriptions of the phenomenon of interest. This paper confirms the experiences encountered by males in the formal teaching career stage as relative to experiences received by males in the early stage of the teacher preparation. It also identifies factors that encourage males to enter elementary teacher education as a field of study, providing practical insights for designing a more inclusive program.

Abstract:
The Philippines is held as one of the largest English-speaking countries worldwide with most of its people possessing at least some degree of fluency in the target language. The prestige of the English language in this country has attracted the attention of many foreign students including Indonesian. In this paper, we aimed to discuss the education system and the English language teaching (ELT) in the Philippines so that practical insights can be gained to reflect on Indonesian EFL learning. To this end, we first described how the Philippine education system looks like and how the English language is taught in schools from elementary to tertiary level. We then explored some prevailing challenges surrounding the ELT, and established links relating the benefits of learning English in this country to Indonesian EFL context. Drawing on qualitative approach, we realized our research objectives by carefully selecting sources and data through critical review of articles from journals, books, websites, and other reliable sources retrieved online. Ultimately, we conducted this inquiry to find out answers so that some lessons learned can be adopted to make ELT in Indonesia better and more resilient since Indonesia remains left behind in the spectrum of English literacy.

Abstract:
Schools shall be conducive to children’s education, and that the children’s’ best interest shall be the primary consideration in all policies and actions of educational institutions. This descriptive cross-sectional survey gauged the Filipino public school teachers’ awareness of and attitudes towards the child protection policy (CPP). The study involved 99 basic education teachers in select public elementary and secondary schools in Zambales, Philippines. The basic education teachers are aware of the policy, and they have a favorable attitude toward its implementation. No significant difference has been found in their awareness and attitude towards CPP when grouped according to demographics. The study concludes that as the teachers become aware of the policy, they tend to have a more favorable attitude. The study recommends that the teachers be capacitated through continuing professional development programs to provide special protection to children who are seriously susceptible or threatened by situations that distress their normal growth. Further study may also be conducted to probe other CPP dimensions in basic education to come up with relevant and research-based recommendations towards the policy’s improved implementation in the public schools in the Philippine context.

Abstract:
Feminisation in the teaching profession is a global issue. It has been said this problem implies gender inequality in relation to their male counterpart for it results in the lack of male models in the basic education and, thus promote social exclusion. This social reality is also the case in the Philippines. Data in 2008–2009 from the Philippine Commission on Women reveals that about 89.58% of the teachers in public elementary and 77.06% in the public secondary schools are female (pcw, 2014). In this regard, this paper argues that feminisation of education in the Philippines, all the more result to uncompromising situations of female teachers for as women, they need to work in shifts as part of their changing roles both in school and at home. Further, this paper presents an analysis of the narratives of ten female teachers in basic education which reveals that in spite of the feminisation of teaching from a purely statistical perspective, they still remain disadvantaged in the career that had always been believed to be their domain, especially in the area of career promotion. Limiting factors to the promotion of women still point to their social conditions as women, where the multiplicity of social expectations and duties in their diverse spheres clash to the detriment of their careers.

Abstract:
Philippine English (PhilE) evolution and its roles have brought challenges and issues to the Philippines' English Language Teaching (ELT) classrooms. Filipino ESL teachers are confronted by issues regarding the appropriate variety to teach and whether or not the local variety should be taught or integrated into the teaching of American English (AmE) or British English (BrE) varieties. World Englishes (WE) and PhilE scholars have asserted the variety's legitimacy and intelligibility, and some have been recommending the integration of the variety into the teaching of ESL and assimilating it in English language programs of all curricular levels from elementary to college. However, studies suggest that the PhilE paradigm is not reflected in the country's English curriculum blueprint and college English textbooks. This conceptual paper presents a revisit to PhilE literature that suggests the issue of its speakers' attitude towards it. It claims that ESL teachers and students have an ambivalent attitude toward PhilE and are not yet open to celebrating its existence. It argues that these PhilE users' ambivalence and unwelcoming attitude toward their English variety possibly hinder the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) from integrating the variety into the English language curricula.

Abstract:
The changing educational landscape of Philippine education in the past decade poses challenges to the implementers of the curriculum innovations – the teachers. Consequently, this has put more pressure on the teacher education institutions (TEIs) to produce a quantity of quality teachers. From this context, this paper examines the technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge (TPACK) confidence level of pre-service teachers in selected Philippine teacher education institutions. The TPACK Model has been a very useful framework for academic stakeholders to understand and measure the level of technology integration in teaching and learning. Using a 64-item self-diagnostic questionnaire designed to measure the dimensions of TPACK in terms of learning experience and practice, and assessing the responses of 187 graduating pre-service teachers from selected Philippine TEIs, the data suggest that the pre-service teachers are fairly confident with the learning experience they get from the TEIs and that by using these experiences they frequently demonstrate the acceptable teacher competency and standards. Furthermore, the levels of TPACK confidence of the secondary and elementary pre-service teachers significantly differ from each other such that the former are more confident with their learning experience and practice. Data also show that there is a significant relationship between the quality of learning experience and the ability of the pre-service teachers to demonstrate the core competencies of TPACK. Hence, teacher education institutions must consider innovating their curriculum through training, subject-focused pedagogical modeling, and subject-specific technologies.

Abstract:
SummaryAn experimental breast-feeding education programme conducted at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila demonstrated that women could be motivated to improve their breast-feeding practices and lengthen their period of lactational amenorrhoea in comparison to a control group. Mothers who participated in the programme breast-fed their babies more frequently, delayed the introduction of regular supplements, used fewer bottles and pacifiers and maintained night feeding longer than mothers who were not exposed to the positive breast-feeding messages. The programme was successful in lengthening the period of amenorrhoea among women with elementary, high school, or technical school education, but not among college-educated women. Different educational approaches may be necessary for women of different education levels.

Abstract:
Background: Nutrition interventions during the early years of a child’s life are anchored on the need to provide good nutrition and proper health care to optimize their growth potential as adults. In the Philippines, undernutrition is a persistent problem among 0–10 year old Filipino children. In this age group, children consume a diet poor in quantity and quality. Aim: This study aimed to assess the effects of a school-lunch and nutrition education intervention among schoolchildren in terms of attaining good nutrition. Method: Using a quasi-experimental design, children aged 7–9 years from public elementary schools in the province of Laguna, Philippines were categorized into three intervention groups and one non-intervention group. Anthropometric measurements; nutrition knowledge, attitude and behavior; and food intake among children and households were collected at baseline and endline periods. SPSS for Windows version 16 and Stata version 15 were utilized for data analysis. Results: Mean scores on knowledge, attitude and behavior of schoolchildren in intervention groups increased significantly at endline ( p<0.05). Protein requirement was met by more children and households than the energy requirement. Most children with normal nutritional status after the interventions (25.3%) belonged to the group with the complete intervention of school-lunch and nutrition education. Conclusions: The provision of both school-lunch feeding and nutrition education is effective in improving the knowledge, attitude and behavior scores and nutritional status of schoolchildren. The adoption and institutionalization of complete intervention with school-lunch and nutrition education in elementary public schools should be pursued.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 Pandemic has led Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines to replace on-campus learning with flexible learning. This paper explores the students' challenges on flexible online learning implementation of the university in the rural area based on their background and experience. This employed quantitative and qualitative methods through a survey and an interview respectively sought to gather data from 639 university students. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and narrative analysis. Results revealed that most mothers are high school graduates, while fathers enjoy an elementary-level and belong to under low-income families. Most students possess just mobile phones and use mobile data as their primary internet access source, ranging from moderate to poor connection. Also, the majority are not fully equipped with enough skills in digital media. For challenges, students experienced the unavailability of a network, economic instability, digital divide, the shortage of digital devices, distractive learning environment, expensive internet data, health-related problems, lack of resources, lack of digital literacy skills, and loss of motivation .Hence, even if flexible online learning is the best solution for the university to replace face-to-face classes, it is not best applicable and suitable to all students living in rural areas or other places with an unstable network and students who belong to financially unstable families. Administrators and educators have to consider alternative learning modes that suit students' backgrounds during the pandemic, like using non-digital technologies.

Abstract:
Coronavirus Disease 2019 forced educational sectors worldwide to implement various distance learning modalities. In the Philippines, printed modular distance learning modality was implemented to continue delivering quality and relevant education amid the pandemic. Thus, this study assessed the quality and implementation of PMDL in public elementary schools. Likewise, this study ranked the challenges encountered by the teachers in the quality and implementation of PMDL. Using descriptive and inferential analyses, the results revealed that both quality and implementation of PMDL were consistently excellent, indicating the adherence of the modality to the national standards set by the Department of Education. However, significantly lower quality of PMDL among small and medium schools and the encountered challenges of teachers on assessments, activities, outputs, parents' incapacity, inconsistent participation, and compliance established the need for instructional supervision.

Abstract:
The teaching competence of teachers is highly regarded as the core of every educational endeavor. Educators worldwide are greatly challenged to gradually develop a more complex teaching competence due to the demand for highly skilled graduates in the global market. Consequently, the Department of Education adopted the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) as a quality assurance tool in implementing the K to 12 Curriculum. The domains of the PPST comprised the complete competency that guarantees a manifestation of globally best teaching practices. Hence, the paper assessed the level of teaching competence of public elementary school teachers in the Division of Bacolod City during the school year 2019-2020, when grouped according to educational attainment, teaching experience, and assessor's designation. Also, it analyzed whether a significant difference exists in the areas of teaching competence and demographics.

Abstract:
Roadside trees along the national highway in Barangay Perrelos in Carcar City are trees that considered a heritage, and yet are affected by urban developments in the province. The study determined the profile of the roadside trees as well as the knowledge, attitudes, and conservation efforts of the locals in the area. Questionnaires and interviews were given to 50 respondents, and data gathered were analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson r and thematic analysis. Ecological indices such as abundance percentage and species richness were also used by the study. Results revealed that there are 108 identified roadside trees, where the species richness is 0.962 and acacia trees are the most abundant (46.30%). Knowledge and attitudes of the respondents were high and low-to-moderate, respectively. Conservation practices towards the roadside trees included pruning, no burning near the trees and making of diversion roads, all adhering with existing environmental laws of the country. Tree abundance and richness, knowledge acquisition, attitude inculcation, and conservation efforts are manifestations of the educational values of roadside trees to the people. Research on these educational values of trees is novel as it provides importance on cultural heritage, environmental protection, and sustainable planning in the area. Implications to environmental education are formulated for the Philippine elementary and secondary education Science teaching.

Abstract:
Introduction: Approximately 24% of the world’s populations, mostly school-age children, are infected with soil-transmitted helminthes; with the majority in tropical and subtropical areas. The Philippine islands are endemic to soil-transmitted helminth with approximately 25 million Filipinos at risk of acquiring the infection. Despite the deworming program of the Department of Health (DOH), re-infection is very common. This study investigated the effect of integrated sanitation and hygiene program among the second grade students of a coastal town in the Philippines. Methods: Utilizing quasi-experimental study, two group pretest and posttest design, 70 participants from the elementary school of a coastal town in the Philippines were chosen randomly to join the study. Results: Overall result showed that experimental group maintained a zero re-infection during the first and second months after the intervention; while the control had one case of re-infection. Moreover, result showed significant difference during pretest and posttest on knowledge (p = <0.05) and self-efficacy (p = <0.05) but not significant on practice (p = 0.77). Analyzing the two groups, significant difference was noted between the experimental and control group on knowledge (p = <0.05) and self-efficacy (p = <0.05), with the experimental group faring better after one and two months post intervention; but no significant difference was noted on practice, one and two months post intervention (p = 0.56, 0.43). The odds of the experimental group acquiring helminthiasis was 68% lower than the control group but is not considered significant (OR = 0.32; p = 0.49). Discussion: The program was successful in reducing the re-infection of helminthiasis and is recommended that continuous health education on hygiene and sanitation must be considered in the home and school.

Abstract:
The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) is a global health crisis that has affected educational systems worldwide. North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU), a typical countryside academic institution in the Southern Philippines, did not escape this dilemma. The advent of remote learning to continue the students’ learning process has caused difficulties for both the students and the educational institutions. Thus, we conducted this study to assess the students’ level of submission of assigned tasks from printed remote learning modular materials under the College of Teacher Education of NEMSU. We evaluated whether the distance of students’ residences to the campus or the nearest online learning facilities affects the level of modular task retrievals. We also determined the current situation, challenges, and struggles of the students with remote learning. Our results showed that out of 392 printed learning modules sent to Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) students, 299 or 76% were retrieved. There were also 292 Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) students who received the learning modules, and 237, or 81%, complied with their tasks. We found that 68% of the total number of students reside within a <30 km radius, while 32% were within a 30–40 km radius. We also found that the distance of their residences from the NEMSU campus slightly affected the percentage of modular learning material retrievals for both the BEED and BSED students, with R2 = 0.38 and R2 = 0.07, respectively. Nonstructured interview results showed that most students were constrained by many challenges and struggles in complying with the tasks. These include internet connectivity problems, inadequate learning resources, difficulty understanding the module contents and assessment instructions, overloaded remote learning tasks, poor learning environment, and mental health problems. This study also revealed that the country’s digital divide became more apparent as we navigated this new mode of the remote learning system.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to determine the significance of Library Hour Program towards word reading performance of public elementary grade five pupils. The true experimental design used consisted of experimental and control groups in which experimental group received the intervention while the control group had no intervention given. The instrument used was the standardized Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) developed by the Department of Education- Bureau of Learning Delivery to measure the significance of Library Hour Program in improving pupils word reading levels. T-test were carried out to answer the research objectives of the study. There were 72 grade five pupils who participated in the experimental group. Pupils that can read at-level text was determined through the Group Screening Test. The pupils with scores less than fourteen (14) out of twenty (20) literal, inferential, and critical questions were subjected to pretest and posttest and served as the experimental group in the study. The pretest and posttest determined the reading level of pupils whether under frustration, instructional, and independent. Phil-IRI graded passages were used in this study. These graded passages were given by the Department of Education and were used to assess the reading performances of Grade Three to Six in the elementary grades nationwide. The library hour as a reading intervention program was specifically used in Alfonso Lista Central School as it was included in their daily classroom programs for thirty (30) minutes a day. After five months of conducting the intervention program, the findings revealed that during the pretest, pupils were assessed under the Instructional level. It also showed that during the posttest, pupils were found to be under the Independent Level. The results showed that Library Hour as an intervention program to improve the word reading of grade five pupils was effective. This also revealed that regardless of sex, Library Hour was found very effective. It was then recommended to include the Library Hour in the daily classroom program in schools as it was proven useful to increase pupils’ reading ability.

Abstract:
Education does not only allow for the exploration of every aspect of life but as well as have a longing for knowledge and the desire to take this learning to the next level. Thus, the teacher’s role in the teaching and learning process is vital. However, that delivery of the instruction towards the learners is a big challenge for the teachers who are handling Multi-grade teaching in this new normal. Multi-grade teaching is a situation in which one teacher has to teach many grade levels, all at the same time. Thus, the paper explores the lived experiences of Multi-Grade Teachers in public elementary school in the time of pandemic. Aided by a phenomenological research approach, the data were gathered from purposively sampled participants using face-to-face and online interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis devised by Lichtman. The findings reveal semblance in the participants’ views and practices in multi-grade teaching during the pandemic. Despite the detected adverse elements that relegate it, multi-grade teachers remain passionately dedicated to facilitating learning. However, making learners master the competencies required is still a great challenge to realize. Thus, the collaboration of all stakeholders, school administrators and local government are vital to address this perennial challenge in multi-grade teaching.

Abstract:
Academic performance determines the quality and standard of efficiency and effectiveness of an educational system. The Research Forum Presentation Philippines' Approach to Assessment of the 21st Century Skills Assessment Curriculum and Technology Research Center (ACTRC) stressed that learners need to acquire 21st-century skills. To address this concern, the Philippines, through its educational agencies, including the Department of Education (DepEd) for the elementary school learners, has merged the learning approach in developing the 21st-century skills through the K to12 education reform agenda. Through its Bureau of Educational Assessment, DepEd has worked to define the skills and determine the opportunities of public elementary school learners of Bacolod City during the School Year 2019-2020. Likewise, it explores the relationship between the predictors of learners' academic performance using the demographic, such as age, sex, birth order, family living condition, monthly family income, nutritional status, and the level of academic performance of the learners in a public elementary school.

Abstract:
Licensure examination for teachers (LET) is the major requirement of teachers in the Philippines before practicing teaching profession. As such, it is imperative to monitor necessary parameters to increase passing percentage of teachers in LET. This study attempted to examine the relationship between performance in pre-LET and LET of 71 elementary education (BEEd) and 127 secondary education (BSEd) graduates in one university in the Philippines. Individual and aggregated data were secured from the college of teacher education dean’s office and Professional regulations commission (PRC). Using the descriptive-correlation method of research, this study presented the null hypothesis that pre-licensure is not a predictor of LET results. Findings showed that there is a notable relationship between the pre-LET and LET examination performances. Using linear regression analysis, ratings attained by the graduates in pre-LET can predict the performance in LET with higher level of confidence. The study confirmed that for general education (GenEd) and professional education components of licensure examination for BEEd, the pre-LET scores of education graduates are significant predictors.

Abstract:
Action research plays an important role in education. It enables teachers to discover what went wrong and what could be done to address classroom problems and issues. Consequently, it has now become one of the major professional development concerns for public school teachers in the Philippines. Teachers are encouraged by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to conduct a school-based action research as part of their performance appraisal and evaluation. In addition, it helps the teachers to explore innovative teaching strategies that will suit the needs of the learners. Although, there are promising benefits brought by research, it still remains a challenge among educators due to tight teaching work loads and ancillary roles performed by teachers. To address this issue, the study aimed to assess the teachers’ perception in writing research based on their level of agreement. Its end goal is to help school administrators and education planners to develop capacity building that will help teachers to appreciate more the value of research. It utilized a quantitative-descriptive design. Fifteen (15) teachers were involved in the study that represented the 100% of the total population of the teaching force in the school. The main data-gathering instrument used was questionnaire. Computation of the weighted mean and ranking were employed in the statistical treatment of data. The results revealed that teachers strongly agreed on the basic principles of action research which signifies their knowledge and understanding of what research is all about. Continuous professional development is suggested to upgrade and strengthen teachers’ skills in writing educational research.

Abstract:
Teacher education institutions (TEIs) in the Philippines establish their brand of educational quality through their graduates’ performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). It is, therefore, necessary for TEIs to align instructional delivery with the competencies in the LET. Thus, this study was undertaken to correlate academic achievement and licensure examination performance of teacher education graduates. Academic achievement is the graduates’ grade weighted average in college and pre-board examination results. The respondents were 1,017 graduates of Bachelor of Secondary Education and Bachelor of Elementary Education in a state university in Cagayan Province, Philippines. The study revealed a significant and strong correlation between the graduates’ grade weighted average in college and LET performance. This is an indication of the effective evaluation procedure of the university since the teachers’ assessment concurs with the graduates’ performance in the LET. A significant relationship was also established between the graduates’ performance in the pre board examination and LET albeit with a weak correlation. This study recommends the development of mechanisms in improving the conduct of pre-board examination review programs in the university. Further validation of the assessment tools used in the pre-board examination is likewise suggested.

Teachers play a significant role in the preparation of our youth as they make important decisions about education, work, and life. Existing studies on the correlations between teaching proficiency and academic performance of the students are primarily limited to elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels. Considering the big difference between advance higher education and other educational levels, there is a need to explore the relationship of the teaching proficiency to the academic performance of the students in advance higher education. This study made use of the descriptive-correlation research design. Survey questionnaires were distributed to all advance higher education faculty members and students from School Years 2015 to 2017 at Northwest Samar State University. Statistical tools like frequency and percentage distribution, means, standard deviations, and regression analysis were used for the analysis of the data. Results showed that most of the advance higher education faculty members are male, married, doctorate holders, professionals, research-oriented, very satisfactory performers, and possess good financial status. The best predictor of the academic performance of the advance higher education students is the work experience of the faculty members.

Abstract:
This study focused on the stakeholders’ views on quality higher education in the University of Eastern Philippines. Specifically, it explored and analyzed the processes involved in the crafting of the institution’s strategic plan in terms of its vision and mission statements; identified the quality assurance policies of the University; and, documented the performance of its graduates in terms of passing government licensure examinations. A mixed form of research technique was used as the research design, utilizing 384 randomly selected respondents composed of students, faculty members, alumni, and community stakeholders. Also included as respondents were the Vice Presidents, College Deans, and 3 other University officials, thus, the total number of respondents was 400 individuals. The mean was used to determine and compare the responses of the various stakeholder groups. Generally, the respondents were aware of the institution’s strategic plan, but many of them found it difficult to memorize its mission statement. Consultations were made, though not with all stakeholders, during the crafting of the strategic plan. They also noted that policies and guidelines were established, implemented, and strictly adhered to by the administration in its daily operations. Over a six-year period (2009 – 2014), the institution and its graduates generally performed below the national mean in its performance in government licensure examinations, although it has consistently performed well in examinations for Nurses, Elementary and Secondary Teachers, Master Electricians, and Criminologists. The institution therefore, has a well-crafted strategic plan, has established policies and guidelines for program implementation, and utilizes varied processes to ensure sustainability of educational programs. It is noted however, that performance of its graduates was generally lower than the national average.

It connects nations, links people from different places, is widely used in education and the business world, and is most notably used for globalization. Although people were given all of the chances and opportunities to study the said language, some were still struggling to use it orally or in writing. With all the interventions made, others are yet to improve and have a low or poor English language proficiency. Hence, the objective of this descriptive study is to determine the English language proficiency of elementary pupils. The respondents of the study were all of the grade IV pupils enrolled in the school year 2020-2021 at one private institution in the Northern Philippines. The results revealed that the overall English language proficiency of the pupils is at an advanced level, regardless of whether they are in the transitional year from using their mother tongue to using the English language, which is grade IV. Meanwhile, the profile variables included in the study were not significantly associated with the pupils' English language proficiency. Abstract:
A vast body of studies has a propensity towards considering system admission test (SAT) scores as one collective variable that influences the licensure examination performance. The current article revisits this research area and further takes a step forward in analysing the influence of SAT score grouped into two categories as passed and conditional. This study is a comparative analysis of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) performance according to SAT groups of a cohort of 86 elementary education graduates from the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) Department at the College of Education (CoEd), Mindanao State University, General Santos City (MSU GSC), Philippines. The Mann-Whitney U Test was mainly used as a statistical tool. The results showed that the majority of the students with passed SAT scores obtained a good level of LET performance and those with conditional SAT scores attained a fair level of LET performance. It was further revealed that there is a statistically significant difference in the LET performance of the students with passed and conditional SAT scores. Based on these pieces of evidence, this current research presents three essential instructional accommodations that may be considered to improve the future LET trajectory of the students. The recommendation for future research is also offered.

Abstract:
This paper is a case study of the Philippines' Third Elementary Education Project (TEEP), a loan-funded project once considered to be the biggest laboratory on education reform in the history of the Department of Education (DepEd) and wals also hailed a success. A decade after the project closed, it is intructive to revisit the TEEP story and investigate how different it was from previous reform projects. It is worth noting that the winning strategy of using school0based management (SBM) as an integrative and developmental management framework fostered innovations in critical aspects of the project, thus contributing to long-term governance reforms in the basic education sector. This paper is broadly a literature-based study with primary source culled mainly from project reports, evaluation studies and policy issuance generated during and after TEEP implementation. Findings were further enriched by interviews with consultants and experts who were involved in the project. The analysis is anchored on two discourses: a) innovative leadership roles and b) employee-driven innovation, with the main focus on the role of teachers and school heads (the Department of Education's employees in the ground) in fostering innovations in the public education system. Findings suggest that TEEP's success was a confluence of factors but SBM is recognized as the key lever. By fostering trasnparency, enhancing collaborative practices and ensuring stakeholders' participation in almost all levels of decision-making, SBM cultivated the culture of innovation in DepEd schools.

Abstract:
Using a quantitative approach employing a descriptive survey research design, 150 Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) alumni of the Davao Oriental State University – Cateel Extension Campus (DORSU-CEC) from the classes of 2013-2021 were surveyed for to conduct this tracer study. Results revealed that most of graduates were females, single, employed regular or permanent basic education teachers within Davao Oriental under public or government organizations. Parents or relatives were very influential in their choice of program in college. Their main employer was the Department of Education (DepEd), and they occupied professional, technical or supervisory job level positions in their first and present employment. Further, graduates acquired their first job within 1 to 6 months after graduating in college, and earned a monthly income of almost ₱27,500 in their first and present employment. Moreover, graduates perceived that the curriculum offered to them in college was relevant in their first and present employment. They believed that communication skills and discipline that they learned in college are the most useful competency and core values on their employment. Additionally, the courses in the campus can be strengthened further if the library and laboratory are provided with more resources, equipment, and facilities that can aid the students in their studies, and if the campus offers more number of optional subjects.

Abstract:
From March 2020 up to the present (February 2022), elementary and high schools in the Philippines have not resumed their full classroom capacity. The majority of learners are still learning from home without assurance of when they are going back to the schools. In order to augment the department’s blended program, the EdTech Unit of Information Communication Technology Services (ICTS) of the Department of Education (DepEd Philippines) has launched an online tutoring program using Facebook and YouTube to reach a larger number of learners all over the country. The program was conceived in January 2021 and has served more than two million learners in the Philippines. Using qualitative content analysis from the responses of the participants, this paper aimed at knowing the experiences of parents, this paper presents the experiences of participants in the program during the first year of its implementation. Upon the first year of its implementation, the participants were generally enthralled and positive for the initiative as it helped them ease with explaining some context that parents may not have the grasp of the information. Parents also were given springboard to talk about topics which are rather difficult to discuss with their children. Participants also highlighted that ETULay served its purpose well but hoped to be more inclusive and graphics-enhanced in the next years to come.
