Full textHow many museums are there in the world? Based on a numerical approach to the museum world, this question raises a number of issues about what museums represent, how they develop, and the knowledge and understanding we have of them. However, museums do not benefit from a satisfactory quantitative approach, and no research to date has addressed the issues involved in the construction and significance of these figures for a representation of the museum phenomenon. This work develops as the successive opening of several black boxes, exploring in turn the issues of the definition of the museum, the methods of census and observation, and the means of expressing its diversity. It is based in particular on fieldwork devoted to census strategies around museums in France, questioning the possibility of differentiated museum landscapes and perimeters and raising a constitutive tension between recognition and invisibilisation. This reflection is related to the challenges of European statistics in the formation of a Europe of museums, based on the analysis of its actors and their productions. Finally, the debates led by ICOM around the definition proposed in 2019 at the Kyoto Conference highlight the creation of an international consensus, confronted with specific visions of museums around the world. In this way, I hope to bring to light the dynamics of the structures of information systems dedicated to the museum, to objectify the different visions of the museum throughout the world, and to initiate new methods that can contribute to the development of museology

Full textThe evolution of art music in the 20th century highlighted spatiality as an inherent quality of music, its composition and its mental conception. Since Debussy and Schönberg, spatial perception has become an essential element of musical perception. This « spatialisation » reached its peak in the avant-garde of the 1950s and 1960s, where it was present on all levels – from writing techniques to the integration of physical space in composition. In this thesis, music's spatial components are studied from a phenomenological point of view, which focuses particularly on the aesthetic experience. A developed conceptual tool allows the specificities of musical space to be interpreted in different stylistic contexts. The notion of musical space is presented in five broad categories : quasi-geometric space, sound as matter, energetic space, physical space, large-scale (« temporal ») space. These categories are studied by considerations on musical time (notably narrativity and linearity), the phenomenon of the expressive gesture (especially in the light of B. Assafiev's theory of intonation), as well as the implications of Bergson's philosophy. The general theoretical part is followed by three essays devoted to the work of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis and György Ligeti in the 1950s and 1960s. Analysing the musical space properties within this corpus results in reflections on the aesthetic and stylistic basis of each composer's work and the listening strategies implicated by their music

"L'urbanisation de l'architecture (étude d'un phénomène international à travers l'exemple de projets choisis parmi les musées et les édifices culturels de Richard Meier, prenant particulièrement en considération les aspects urbanistiques et picturaux de son architecture)." Full textIt is precisely in projects for cultural buildings in the center of the city as architectural task that the development of an urbanization of architecture can be seen since the early 1970s. Meier's projects demonstrate the strong influence of city planning principles on architecture, such that architecture itself becomes as in Frankfurt and Ulm - an illustration of the aesthetic and formal appearance of the city. The result of the development of such practice leads finally to an urbanization of architecture. The architecture of the modern movement sought to resolve problems of urban building architecturally, which led to the loss of the open and variegated structure of the city of the past. Contemporary architecture tackles architectural problems from the standpoint of the requierements of urban planning, and this can lead to a regaining of urban openness and density as well as to an enrichment of urban experience. The incorporation of requirements of urban and pictorial developments into the architectural conception underlines the cultural aspect of this architecture. In this sense Richard Meier's architecture is a convincing contribution to the question; what can art and architecture mean for the town of today?
Verrey, Arnaud. "Le droit selon la musique." Thesis, Paris 2, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA020011/document.
Full textThis thesis, the subject of which is “Rights and law in according to music” is in response to Mr Carbonnier's “Précis de sociologie juridique” (Précis of legal Sociology) in which the writer suggest doing a research about the rights and law’s representation in music. The aim of this thesis, accordingly, is to enquire whether music does indeed involve rights and law – an associated legal phenomenon – and if so, what extent. In this context, all aspects covered by the terms “rights and law” are considered: the law, the judgement, the contract and the basis of authority – whether human or divine. As used here the term “music” represents solely that which falls within the scope of western classical music, be it of a religious or non-religious nature. The wording “in according to” refers therefore to the different aspects inherent in “the rights and law’s representation in music” which is the subject’s problematic: - rights and law for the use of music: after confirmation of the presence of rights, law and legal actors in the five hundred or so works reviewed, the purpose of this first part is to explain why these legal requirements exist in a musical work, what these requirements define and how they apply in this work. - rights and law concerning musical composition: this second part , based on many of the musical procedures used by composers (instrumentation and voices, the use of harmony and counterpoint, musical phrasing and motifs, expression and rhythm), aims at identifying how the musical composition represents rights and law
This thesis about the musical potential of sound analysis consists in an artistic and creative research on characteristic properties of sound behavior revealed by various types of analysis and likely to assist musical composing. This work presents the elaboration of analysis tools programmed and used on purpose, in addition of a corpus of six works which the order of presentation corresponds to their chronology of writing, and which both conception and musical analysis are unevenly exposed (from brief to exhaustive overviews). As the research occurs, the featured repertory integrates, by a conceptual enlargement, some analytic considerations for other vibratory phenomena (as light or the harmony of the spheres) and, aesthetically, all that approach is founded on the aristotelician concept of mimesis, in which the artistic ideal consists in the sublimation of nature.
